Yelp
I booked this hotel for a weekend as a staycation. I've seen it for many years and visited friends who stayed there. Seemed like a relaxing oasis in the middle of the city. Least, that's what it advertises itself as...
Instead, it's the epitome of lipstick on a pig. A 1970's apartment building (with all the fun 1970's amenities like carpet, popcorn ceilings, old plumbing) converted into a "boutique hotel" because they painted creatively, added some mood lighting and put a lizard with a torch outside.
The rooftop pool is one of the worst in LA. It reminds me of other 1970's apartment buildings on Palm and Larrabee who have roof top pools. Again, just painted and set up a little creatively. The view from the roof top pool is.... local apartment buildings.
The food and drinks are super expensive - I admit any hotel is super expensive these days - but unlike some of the other hotels, you're getting Sysco food. The same food at any diner or cafe, delivered in those nice Sysco tricks. At least other hotels use some gourmet, creative recipes with interesting ingredients sourced from special farms.
The staff here are phony and all about upsell, upsell, upsell. Again, I get they have to make a buck, but they have an almost bullying way about upselling. Like, if you don't buy or pay more, you're being an asshole.
The actual rooms, at $500 a night, are basically equivalent to the Ramada down the street. They have gross, old carpet. Can you imagine what's happened on that carpet? The bathrooms are very average looking. The views are..looking into the windows of various apartment complexes. The furniture is ancient. The snacks they try to get you to take and upsell you on are very average things you can get at a liquor store.
Finally, if you want to sleep, at least during the weekend, forget it. The 1970's construction means thin walls, and this is a party hotel. The roof top has parties on the weekends, with bass, so you won't be sleeping before 1 or 2 am on a weekend.
At $500 a night (give or take) you have a plethora of options in West Hollywood. This is the bottom of the barrel.
