The 22 Best Restaurants In Baltimore - Baltimore - The Infatuation

"Sometimes you just need a restaurant that checks all the boxes for everyone—a spot that’s cozy but classy, nice enough for the parents, but casual enough for your Uncle Nick who always wears a Ravens jersey to dinner. That’s Petit Louis Bistro, a north Baltimore French institution known for its “Civilized Lunch” (a steal at $35 for three courses) and impeccable service. Snag a seat by the window, eavesdrop on Hopkins professors over a glass of red wine and a croque monsieur, and take a stroll through the tree-lined neighborhood afterward." - michele berry

The 38 Best Restaurants in Baltimore | Eater DC

"At this charming, unfussy French bistro in pedestrian-friendly Roland Park, diners have been tearing into warm French bread while diving into escargot, duck confit, and trout amandine for more than two decades. Chilled glasses of Sauternes and steaming bowls of French onion soup (with expertly browned cheese crust dripping over the edge of the bowl) alongside patina walls take diners directly to Europe without a trip out of Baltimore. Plus, there’s plenty of outdoor seating." - Jess Mayhugh

Google
Fantastic dinner location for any special occasion or nice evening. We ordered the mussels, trout, and vegetable gnocchi. All were cooked perfectly, and superbly prepared. The drink special - a rose spritz - was also great. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a more upscale dinner in Baltimore.

We celebrated a birthday at Petite Louis!I enjoyed the Salmon & my friend ordered the Quiche! The awesome staff put a candle on her chocolate dessert 🍫 I loved lime/grapefruit ice cream!🍦What a great place to have a fun time!

Google
Went for a business dinner. Had a really good time. Courtney and Matt were excellent as my waitress and Sommelier. Food was really good. The atmosphere was a lot stuffy but the service was more than accommodating of that. Would recommend, will go again!!!

Google
Three of us enjoyed delicious French cuisine at Petit Louis Bistro. The beignets were somewhat disappointing, but everything else was top notch. Definitely recommend having the short ribs. The servers were all great! I would have given 5 stars, but it was so noisy that conversations were difficult. Eating outside would have been better.

Google
What a great lunch we had! French cuisine at its finest. The onion soup, escargot, salads and entrees were delicious. Service was impeccable start to finish. Is this the best restaurant in Baltimore?? Maybe!

Google
I enjoyed eating here, however I don't feel the cost is justified. I also didn't like the amount of fries given to us for our meals which felt like a filler for a place I am spending alot on. Overall, it's not bad at all, just not for their price point.

Google
We love eating out at French restaurants so we decided to try this place. The decor was great. Our chairs however were really uncomfortable. The service and the wait staff are excellent and came over often to check on us. The acoustics here are terrible- very loud . It’s hard to have a conversation. The escargot was good but not great. The pate was very nice but the frois gras was disappointing. The duck confit was very tender and the skin was crispy and not fatty but the wine reduction sauce had no flavor. The same can be said of the duck breast in a peach reduction and the venison also lacked flavor. Everything was good but missing that je ne sais quoi. The dessert was the exception- they were exceptional. The mousse was chocolatey but not over sweet.

Google
What an excellent and memorable meal... shame on me for living in Baltimore for so long and somehow never dining here until now! Everything we ordered was so perfectly prepared, presented and delicious, the service was stellar, and I loved the cozy French bistro atmosphere on a cold winter night. I'll be coming back just for the incredible French Onion Soup alone (but look forward to trying some of the other dishes too!)

Yelp
This visit to Petit Louis was amazing! I highly recommend starting with the shrimp beignets, served with a flavorful saffron aioli, and the foie gras with grilled bread. The foie gras was so good that we ended up asking for extra bread to savor every last bite. The duck breast? Hands down the best I've had to date!

Yelp
My first review of the new year. I can't wait to hear what I say! Spousal Unit and I went to brunch with Baby Sister, Der Husband, and Luuuuucy. My first time there, but BSH&L go often. I can see why. First the ambiance: it's warm, nicely decorated, and very comfortable. Tables were not too close and the noise level was very low even though there were quite a few rowdy diners (um, besides us). Second, the service was outstanding. Everyone was warm and friendly AND very professional. I don't normally expect all three. Out main waiter was excellent. We were given time to settle in, order and begin to enjoy cocktails, and review the menu at our own pace. Drinks and food were delivered promptly and we were never rushed. And the food; ah, the food. We shared apps of escargot (but of course) and a ham pate as well as a basket of really nice bread. It was my first experience with snails so I have nothing to compare them to, but Luuuuuucy demolished them. The pate was nice but I was expecting something spreadable rather the very firm slice we were served. Our mains followed and they were worth every second of the drive into Charm City. My magret of duck was perfectly portioned, cooked, and seasoned. Spousal Units poached eggs with ham and hollandaise were excellent (she made them disappear faster than you could say "Houdini"). Baby Sis had the short rib special (we all fought for tastes!), DH went for the omelet (soft, moist, and unbrowned) and Luuuuucy the scrambled eggs (soft, beautiful curds) - what I would expect from a real French Bistro. We shared crème brûlée and profiteroles for dessert: ahhhhh. Because this is a Tony Foreman/ Cindy Wolf joint I had high expectations. Those were exceeded. I would be very, very happy to make the trek every day if I could so Petit Louis could be my neighborhood spot. Cheers! I'm used to seeing s

Yelp
10/10 dining experience! The restaurant is located in a very cute little square with plenty of parking (it fills up though for highly recommended going earlier). The interior is cozy and inviting. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered the frisée salad with lardons and mussels to share and both were flavorful and balanced. We were also recommended wine that was tasty and paired well with our meals. For my entree I ordered the steak Diane and was so happy with my choice to pick the special of the day. The steak was perfectly cooked and the mash and haricot verts were well seasoned and good accompaniments. This is the perfect date spot or family dinner place!

Yelp
It has been too long since I've been to Petit Louis. I came for the first time in 2018 after moving here and was super impressed by their famed French onion soup, and the tableside martini service, which is superior. They pour the martinis so full. You literally have to sip it before you even touch it. It's epic. Located in Roland Park it's definitely on the upscale side, but it's still somehow cozy and intimate and feels like you're in a classic bistro. Not a very diverse dining crowd because again it's in Roland Park but the staff and service is amazing here. This is probably my favorite Foreman Wolfe restaurant - and the escargot here is so good. For me the food has been a little inconsistent, as we all went through a pandemic, but I went back recently for the Beaujolais Nouveau release day (a day late - this release is always on the third Thursday of November) and the food was spectacular. The wine was average but was great with the meal. The endive frisee salad was so spectacular I'm still thinking about it. For the beaujolais release day they had coq au vin special and it was the most tender chicken I've had. I'm not even the biggest fan of mash , but the potatoes were also good. I have heard their chicken for two is really delicious, but somehow have never ordered it and all the times I visited. Our server Donovan was a delight, and we had so much fun. Evidently Fridays is a night to go. They had musicians and they offer half bottles of champagne after 8 PM!

Yelp
My review is just for the pate that I ordered for carry out. I typically prefer pate in mousse form, but Petit Louis only has Masion. Flavor was good along with all the typical accompaniments.

Yelp
Last night my boyfriend and I celebrated out anniversary at Petit Louis - one of our favorite spots. The food and service are always phenomenal! The restaurant has a cozy feel. Last night we enjoyed the mussels and the gravlox as appetizers along with their complimentary bread basket. I had the steak frites as my entree and my boyfriend had the bar roti (rockfish) entree. We shared the creme brulee and pear ice cream for dessert and they threw in a slice of blackberry and white chocolate cake as an anniversary gift. I had the pavot rose cocktail. Everything was perfect and we had a lovely dinner.
google avatar

Amanda Z.

Yelp
Oh I wanted to love it. My husband and I are making or way through all the Foreman Wolf offerings and normally we are always blown away. It might be because French food is not ground breaking and focuses on cream and sauces rather than seasoning but the whole exprience was just ok. We came during restaurant week hoping they would be putting their best foot forward and they did try. For a restaurant with their outdoor seating in a parking lot the area still felt cute and quaint. You are sitting in the middle of a neighborhood (more than one customer we saw get up and simply walk back to their homes) the food we had Croque Monsieur just rich tasting Steak Frites fine A lemony dessert that was forgettable Peach salad was lovely Drink program held no surprises and they were serviceable. I try to rate places on if I feel the pull to come back and I wouldnt come back here if had to pay regular prices

Yelp
We made our way back to Petit Louis for date night. It was a lovely experience but didn't exactly blow me away like the last time. To start we got the house salad, the mussels, and foie gras. Everything was delicious and the stars were definitely the mussels and foie gras. For entrees, we got the steak frites and the beef bourguignon to share. We asked for the steak to be prepared medium but when it came out, it was pretty rare. My boyfriend tends to like his steaks more rare than me but it was even too rare for him. We sent it back and it came back just right. The beef bourguignon was delicious and had so much flavor. One of the things I remember loving the most about Petit Louis was their dirty martinis. Their stuffed olives are just amazing. However, when I asked for an extra dirty martini, it came super duper dry. It was almost as if it was made extra dry instead of extra dirty. I had to ask for a sidecar of olive juice to adjust it to my liking. Despite the minor hiccups, service was exceptionally friendly throughout. Everyone was so helpful and the food was great. Since I do consider it fine dining and the prices reflect that, I don't expect little hiccups which is the reason for the 4-stars this time around.

Yelp
family dinner at @bistrolouis in roland park, bltimore, md for some cozy, french cuisine prepare to wait 30+ minutes after your reservation to be seated, but it's totally worth it once you try Louis' Famous Onion Soup for my main I tend to go with the classic Trout Amandine with Rainbow Trout, Almond Brown Butter, Rice Pilaf every time and finished off the meal sharing a Blackberry & White Chocolate Cake with Blackberry Grapefruit Compote and Madera Coulis with my mommy
google avatar

Jess L.

Yelp
It was ok, there is definitely room for improvement but this was not the Petit Louis I remember. I believe PL to be a more premiere restaurant with a price tag to boot so my expectations are higher than a mid range restaurant. First, the service was a bit strange. We had a server come up and ask if we needed help with the wine/alcohol list, which we did but wanted a moment to discuss. He never came back, a waitress did and she apparently didn't know anything about wine. How can you work at a French restaurant and not know anything about wine? And what happened to the first guy? Second, our table was served cold bread and cold butter. As a French restaurant I know they know that salted butter can be served room temp, and to give us cold butter without warm bread, I think for the price rage of this place, that's a no no. Third, the food itself was just ok. I will give credit that my husband and I split a dish and they did split the plates for us which was very nice. 3 of us got steak frites and it was a nice portion. Unfortunately, all the steak was overcooked. We all ordered it medium rare and I would argue most were medium at best with one being almost medium well. I would've personally sent that one back but our friend ate it. The escargot was great. Our salad with brie had about 2 bites of brie on it. For dessert we had creme brulé which was pretty good. Overall it wasn't a great experience from the service to the food. I'd suggest an overhaul on training staff as well as some type of update on cooking steak because this just wasn't it. I won't be back for a while.

Yelp
Petit Louis had been on my must-try list for a while and I am so glad I was able to finally check it off. I was blown away by my experience! We were greeted promptly and warmly at the door and seated right away. The onion soup was the best I've ever had. So incredibly rich and cheesy! Both entrees were phenomenal. The post-dinner cheese cart lives in my dreams everyday now LOL. Service was attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back!

Lois D.

Yelp
Oh, my! My civilized lunch was fantastic! The soup was creamy and delicious. The pork melted in my mouth and the lentils were amazing! Of course I added the cheese course, three great selections. My dessert was creamy and satisfying. Brought home leftovers for more deliciousness. Service was on point. Thank you for lovely afternoon!

Yelp
Absolutely the best French bistro I have ever been to. **I have been to a lot of them because my birthday is on the French holiday (Bastille Day), so every year we try a different one.** From the minute we walked in until the minute we left, we were treated like family and royalty. Thank you very much to the semonieller whose wine recommendedations were fantastic. Every detail of the dining room is absolute perfection. You can tell someone put a lot of love and a lot of French-savvy into making the atmosphere feel as authentic as possible. Even the bathroom feels like you're right back on the streets of Paris hopping into a cafe. I gobbled up the French Onion Soup before I even got a picture of it. We also tried the escargot and mussels, and they were extraordinary as well. Everyone at the table agreed that the duck was the best dish! None of us had any room to spare for the cheese course , but we will certainly be going back and grabbing it. Bonus: Easy free parking in the cutest of neighborhoods. Thank you for such a wonderful, quaint, unique bistro, and we are so happy that we have found you. I think I am finished looking for my perfect Bastille Day joint, and we will be coming back again very soon! Merci!!!!!

Yelp
I visited Petit Louis for Sunday brunch with a group of friends. We were warmly welcomed by a number of hosts and servers and sat down. The decor is reminiscent of a Parisian cafe and very fun. We started with some coffees and mimosas which were all very tasty. The bread service came out early and was okay -- the butter was quite hard and difficult to spread and the bread was fine. We ordered a few appetizers to share the chilled potato soup (excellent) and the aubergine with pesto and cheese (it has a more elegant French name that I'm ruining, but that's only because the dish was amazing and I couldn't focus on other details!) For my main entree I ordered the croque monsieur (pictured). This dish is hands down one of my favorite French foods but unfortunately I found the one at Petit Louis too heavy and rich and could barely eat half of what was on my plate. I was a bit disappointed but overall I very much liked the experience and would love to go back to try the dinner service!

Yelp
A real bistro. Ez parking on street too. Traditional French bistro fare done très bien . Priced as expected (£€$) and service was professional and engaging. Nice vibe ... a keeper, worth the drive

Yelp
Food - 4.0 Service - 4.5 Ambiance - 4.0 I came here for the first time during restaurant week. The ambiance is very comforting; however, the spacing of the tables made it feel very cramped. Sitting at the chairs at the booth felt very tight and my knees were almost touching the table. For the three course meal I ordered the Velouté de Champignons, Boeuf Bourguignon, and Profiteroles. The Velouté de Champignons was great. The soup had a light consistency, but still tasted very rich. I really wish the bread was baked better as it would have been a great addition to eat with the soup. The bread was tough on the jaw while chewing and the butter was cold making it very difficult to spread. The highlight of the Boeuf Bourguignon was the vegetables. The mushrooms, carrots, and mash potatoes carried the dish. The beef, though cooked very well and tender, lacked flavor. Maybe more sauce would have helped elevate the flavor of the beef. The dish in total was very good as the beef paired nicely with the vegetables. I just wish the beef did not taste so plain as it's the main part of the dish. The dessert looked how it tasted. A simple cream puff with vanilla ice cream. An okay, but not the best way to end the night. Overall, the kind servers and ambiance made the experience enjoyable. I think I went in with too high expectations as the dishes lacked an element of uniqueness that would make it worth the price. I will most likely not come again, but I would recommend it for a nice cozy experience and an exposure to classic French cuisine.

Yelp
I had another wonderful meal here with friends. We dropped in for lunch. I had the eggplant Napoleon and the duck breast. My friends ordered shrimp and also tomato soup and also chicken. The food was great! The service was excellent. Good times for all.

Yelp
This place is a gem - every time I visit I am in awe of their great service and amazing food. There are limited parking spaces close to the door but there is free street parking nearby. I recommend always making a reservation especially if you are dining on the weekends or during peak hours. The service here is always on point, they are attentive and always make sure you have anything you need. The wine and liquor list is extensive and the food menu is all fresh ingredients. We got our staples: eggplant, snails, french onion soup, and steak. I promise you this is the best french onion soup you will ever have in your life. The steak is always cooked properly. 11/10 will always come back here!
google avatar

Yelp
Known for consistent quality. And yes it is always good. Food is excellent. Option of cheese between courses (why?). Service is very attentive. Always busy but efficient. Outside seating available. If you want guaranteed good food. This is a great choice.
google avatar

Aashmi P.

Yelp
We were able to come for restaurant week and it was delicious, it was a nice meal and the atmosphere was nice but cramped. The service was okay but I assume that is because they were so busy due to restaurant week.
google avatar

Regan R.

Yelp
Food was delicious, service was spectacular and the energy makes you feel like you're truly in a French cafe. Such a fun spot!
google avatar

Natasha R.

Yelp
Delicious and consistent foods with good service, albeit a little slower on busy nights. A couple of salads we've had in the past few months were not over the top on tastes but everything else has been very good. Here, one of my staples are snails so I will plan a visit just for those and whatever else seems mouthwatering that day. The service is always good and the dishes are well timed for the allocated dining timeframe. Some cocktails aren't as hefty as they could be, for example, a martini which should pack a good punch. But maybe that's just me thinking boozy cocktails should be hella boozy. Only true downside is that noise levels are really high at peak times and we prefer not to scream at our dinner companions, especially while eating. Parking is also not usually good in that location and some of the drivers seem to not care whether they leave dents in doors. Some even park so close that it prohibits you from entering your car requiring you to Gumby it over to the driver's seat from the passenger side allowing a true appreciation for a light dinner. Hence, I recommend ride share if possible. Overall, with the prix fixe lunches and the delicious dinner choices, it's a still win.

James H.

Yelp
It is our family's place to celebrate: Birthdays, Anniversaries, and great food. Love the French Onion Soup Steak and Frits.

Yelp
Petit Louis has been on my bucket list for the longest time, and I finally got a chance to dine here last Saturday evening for a friend's birthday dinner. And I want to go back. If you want a well executed casual dinner, with no limitations or requirements, this is the restaurant to go to. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you are walking into a Paris bistro, with the European antique decor, the ambience is phenomenal. The food is phenomenal, from the eggplant napoleon, the beet salad, mesulin greens salad, the grilled shrimp, croque monsuer, the steak frites, the pan roasted salmon. And the desserts were also good as well, from the creme brûlée, to the chocolate mousse, and the ice cream of the day. What I also love with dessert menu, they offer wine parings or an after dinner drink with your dessert. I will definitely try an after dinner drink with my dessert next time. The food and service was phenomenal. I will definitely return, would love to do the brunch service next time.

Yelp
Another fabulous meal at Petit Louis. This time we went with another family, with our kids and there kids, and even though there isn't a kids menu here they really do well. The restaurant will make a simple pasta dish with butter and cheese (but no marinara sauce is available). The Croque Monsieur is essentially a super delicious grilled cheese sandwich with ham and the kids love that. The fries are spectacular and my kids actually love the muscles. Our friends' kids love the cucumber salad so that's another go to for the kiddos. On the adult side we started with the broccoli soup (amazing as are all their soups) and the eggplant napolean which is one of our all time favorite dishes. Then we tried the pepper steak special which was absolutely delicious. I could have eaten anything if it was served in that pepper sauce. The chicken for 2 is always a must and was just as spectacular as ever. Dipping those fries in the duck fat that the chicken is cooked in is heavenly, and the carrots, onions and garlic cloves that come with the chicken are to die for. This place proves, again and again, that it's one of Baltimore's best and we'll keep coming back, no doubt about it.

Yelp
Excellent and consistent, all across the board: food, service, atmosphere. An authentic French bistro, with great attention to every single detail to make your experience there a memorable one. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Always a hit. Great location, ambience, food and so important to me, service. Thank you.

Yelp
Good food! Great service. Unfortunately, small space to hold a lot of people. Felt overcrowded! A table for two had little wiggle room. Otherwise, enjoyed my visit!

Yelp
I've been to Petit Louis Bistro twice now - once for brunch outside and once for dinner inside, and I LOVE IT. It's like walking into a bistro in Paris. The inside of the restaurant is so lovely, warm, and homey. With European, antique decor - it just has an ambience that you have to see! All the food I've had has been excellent: the escargots, the short ribs, the cheese plate for dessert, the beet salad, ... everything. And there's so much more I want to try: duck leg confit, moules aux fines herbes, the pate, the scrambled eggs with Gruyere and ham, their cassoulet, steak tartare, and ALL THE DESSERTS (tarte au citron? creme brulee? pot de creme? I want them all)! They also have a great wine list. My friend and I were able to try a bottle of Beaujolais nouveau when I was there last (November), and we had an after dinner drink with our cheese plate for dessert (Comte). I've heard amazing things about their martinis, which are poured tableside and filled to the brim, so I'm tempted to try a martini on my next visit. The service is great, and I can't overstate the restaurant's ambience. I love this restaurant. It's an experience. I recommend it to anyone who loves French food and restaurants. It's a gem.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
This is such a wonderful restaurant! The setting and ambience is perfect (I sat inside because of the heat, but there is excellent outdoor seating as well). An elegant restaurant, but a little loud (that's the last slightly negative thing you will hear). The food was excellent (escargots, truite almandine) and a daunting wine list, but don't be intimidated- I found an excellent bottle for $27. Above all, the service is excellent and everyone - from busboy to Maitre d' is genuinely friendly and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed my evening there.
google avatar

Stewart B.

Yelp
It's like food heaven or you are transported to France. I love the food and service. The ambiance also is very cozy. I just love the quality of the food and the quality of the ingredients.

Rob S.

Yelp
Felt extremely racist how the staff treated us during this visit, starting off with how we were seated in a dark, uncomfortable corner of the restaurant and the lack of attention in simple services like how long the food, which was fine, took and even asking about drinks.

Norma T.

Yelp
Food is amazing! Service espectacular Drinks genuine Can't wait to go back! I highly recommend this place

Yelp
Perfect ambiance for a date night, from the street light décor to the etched glass windows inside a cute cottage! I asked my girlfriends to go for restaurant week, and it was the best decision ever! They offered 3 courses for $40, which included an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. A couple of us opted for the $19 wine pairings. I got the beet salad (SALADE DE BETTERAVES) to start, which exceeded my expectations. The orange vinaigrette paired well with the goat cheese and the flavors were very bright without being too sweet. My veal entrée (BLANQUETTE DE VEAU) was out of this world. The tender veal, paired with the cream sauce and the mushrooms was perfection. To take each bite with some lardon and pearl onions was a beautiful union, a true flavor explosion in your mouth. FRAISIER, the strawberry glazed dessert with vanilla sponge was actually my least favorite part of the meal. While the strawberry and lemon flavors had a nice tartness, the sponge was a bit dense for my liking. We also ordered pommes frites, which were thin and crispy. All of the wine pairings were good, but the dessert wine was extremely sweet. Overall, a wonderful night with delicious food of generous portions and great service.

Yelp
I came here for dinner during restaurant week on a busy Friday night. My friends and I made reservations and was seated immediately as we arrived. Despite the fact the restaurant was packed, our food was served immediately and our waiter was attentive to our table. All three courses was delicious and filling. Usually most restaurants give smaller portions during restaurant week, but Petit did not fall under that category. My friends and I were very pleased with the service, the quality of the food and portion. Just one pointer: -parking might be difficult to find in front of the restaurant since there's a limited space, but there's spaces in the surrounding block.

Hungry G.

Yelp
If you want to find a unique spot for brunch or special occasion, I highly recommend this spot. Be sure to call ahead so you don't have to wait for a seat. Service is excellent but it can get busy. It is quite a popular spot. Their French onion soup is to die for!

Yelp
Petit Louis is c'est bon!! A consistently wonderful selection and top notch waitstaff!

Yelp
It's been too long, but we took our cousins here in memory of our Paris trip a few years ago. We had the house red Cotes du Rhône, mussels appetizer, short rib special, beef Bourguignon, fluke and duck confit--and plenty of puréed potato to go around (plus dessert later). And the wait staff could not have been more solicitous to us. All très bon!

Yelp
I'm a food snob, originally raised in NYC and living in Miami. So, my standard of measure is against those communities, not Baltimore; my rating is based off that comparative. In Baltimore for the day, I wanted to find a fun bistro for myself and friends. Searching various online sources, including Yelp, I concluded this should be a perfect choice. Our plans changed, and when I called to alter our reservation, the hostess on the phone was pleasant and accommodating. On arrival, plenty of parking in a large circumferential lot. Attended immediately by the hostess and seated outside on a perfect late spring day. Our server was exceptional. Friendly, professional, thespian articulate and menu knowledgeable with ideal accuracy. Most appetizers were exactly what was ordered. My companions left no evidence of their vichyssoise, reporting excellent flavor. The house green salad overflowed the plate and was described as "refreshing." Mine fell short. Described as a shrimp and zucchini fritter, similar to a hushpuppy, it was actually tempura fried shrimp and zucchini sticks. Not my expectation, but tasty. Main courses were not as elevated as anticipated. The Sweetbreads was a small serving over a large mass of butter sautéed mushrooms. My companion liked it, but did not rave. The Duck Confit also looked more appetizing than reality. Again, marginally enjoyed without a glowing description, an unfinished plate. The Steak Frites was the reason for dining at Petit Louie. Myself and another concurred on the following: Prepared to medium as desired. But, a slightly tough cut. And, both the steak and fries were very heavily salted to a point of unpleasant. Dessert was an order of profiteroles. Cold, sweet ice cream in a flaky, crispy pastry. Prices were better than NY or South Florida. As a repeatable plus, service was excellent. 3-3.5 stars - boosted for service. It was a graduation weekend (Thursday night) with the crowd building very fast. Maybe the kitchen was overwhelmed in prepping for a busy night. I was expecting far better food from the reviews I had read.

Yelp
The food was predictably good but the service by waitress Mercedes was very poor. She clearly needs re-training and she needs to understand that she is there to provide good service to the table, the table is not there to make her have a happy day.

Yelp
We had a truly delightful birthday brunch for my brother here this past weekend. The service was wonderful. I wish I could remember our server's name, she was so kind and pleasant. There were three of us, my brother, sister and I, and we had a cozy table in the back near the wine shelves. We felt very safe dining here, and appreciated that they took our temperatures when we came in. We ordered the onion soup, the beet salad, the croque monsier and foie gras. It was all delicious and very satisfying without being too filling (we wanted to make sure that we had room for dessert). We ordered the chocolate mousse and a dessert not on the menu, a bavarois. It reminded me of a petit fours or a napoleon; it was layers of a dense yellow cake w layers of raspberry mousse and puree, topped w dollops of chocolate mousse and chocolate pearls. Both desserts were outstanding. We had a lovely time here and I am planning to bring our mother in once the weather is nicer. I know she would love the soup and the dessert and it would be a nice treat after being homebound for so long. Thanks Petit Louis for a great experience!

Yelp
We visited Petit Louis for Valentine's Day. We were excited at the wine pairings to go with each course. I think our favorite dish was the Chateaubriand with pomme truffe. Excellent service inside a nicely old fashioned, half-timbered building to complete the warm ambiance.

Yelp
Formerly reliable old line French Restaurant did not live up to previous visits when we last dined here. Serving were slimmer and slapdash. Fish and vegetables had overstayed under the kitchen heat lamps and lukewarm on arrival. Disappointed overall for the $$'s. Server was excellent but did not make up for the diminished experience.

Yelp
Like the whole Foreman/Wolf empire, Petit Louis is an Emperor's New Clothes situation. An embarrassment for Baltimore--in any other city, there is no way a restaurant at this price point, with mediocre food, inconsistent service, and interrogation lighting, would survive. But in Baltimore, it thrives, and we all continue to pretend it's a fancy fine dining option. It's on us, obviously, but if you want to spend $150 a head and have a nice dinner, there are other options and you'd be well advised to pick one.

Yelp
For the price, this restaurant is not that great. The food was decent. The AC must not have been working ridiculously hot inside.

Yelp
I've been to Petit Louis a couple times and they always deliver. The building has a beautiful French feel and is so stunning. The food is always amazing and changes. The French onion soup is always my favorite. They do an amazing dirty martini but real blue cheese stuffed olives. Espresso martini is t my favorite but still really good! Service is always top notch and fancy.

Yelp
Yes, yes, another 5 star review. But it's true! Had a great dinner here with my family one chilly night. Because of COVID we decided to eat outside (which was a good call because inside was absolutely PACKED). Despite the cold weather we were toasty warm thanks to the heat lamps they provided. Since we were one of the only groups outside, we each got our own heat lamp and it was very comfortable. Our server Jordan was great and very attentive. The cauliflower soup was velvety smooth and had a delicious truffle and herb undertone. I had a few bites of my partner's french onion soup (because you can't NOT try their most well-known dish) and it was just as melty and flavorful as everyone says. I ordered the steak frites cooked medium and it came out perfectly. The frites were also exactly right-- long, crispy and spiced with herbs (be aware that they fry in peanut oil). The herb butter that came on the steak was such a rich treat and paired excellently with both aspects of the meal. The inside of the restaurant was very cozy, quaint, and European chic. The bathroom was also retro and very classy, with an old school toilet complete with pull-chain. The restaurant nails ambiance and transports you to a different time and space. I would love to come back for another dinner and eat inside once it's more safe to do so in a crowded setting.

Yelp
What a delight, without the typical pretentiousness you'll find in many French places. The service was very fast, attentive, and helpful. The staff works together to clear plates, serve wine, run cards, etc., which allows for a much more efficient experience. My boyfriend had the steak, which he said was the best he's ever had. I ordered the salmon, which was delicious. The mushrooms and brussels sprouts were great, though the hollandaise always gives me more of a brunch vibe with salmon (not a complaint, just a personal preference thing). Definitely book ahead, or you won't be able to find a table on the weekend.
