Restaurant Trend: Subscriptions and Memberships Are Here to Stay | Eater

Whether or not Chicago’s restaurant scene truly has ‘lost its mojo,’ its immigrant community deserves better | Eater Chicago

"The national Chinese-American restaurant chain figured in a controversy in which a commentator's remarks about the co-founder were perceived to diminish his immigrant experience, an episode cited to show how public narratives can erase nuance and reduce discussions of food to simplified binaries of race and class." - Ashok Selvam

Google
Definitely great. Waitress is super nice, gives you a chopstick hack. Food is a 10/10. Of you get an Indian waitress she is so nice!! 10/10 P.F. Chang’s

Google
Food was ok. Portion was less than expected. Host was very unprofessional, barely audible and not friendly. Waitress was very distracted with fake smile. Never received paper napkins requested stopped by a second time to take our order. Drinks ordered as we sat in were not ready till mid dinner. Restaurant serves tap water with heavy after taste. Management walks around too early and does just a generic check up.

Our server Raquel provide excellent and attentive service. The food was favorable and decent portions size.

P.F. Chang’s Orange Chicken is a reminder that a familiar dish can still feel special when it’s done with care. The chicken arrives perfectly crisp on the outside and tender inside, never oily or heavy. It’s generously coated in a glossy orange sauce that layers bright citrus, gentle sweetness, and a restrained heat that slowly wakes up the palate rather than overpowering it. What makes this dish memorable is its balance. Nothing competes for attention—each element works in harmony, creating a flavor that feels both comforting and intentional. The sauce clings just enough, the texture stays satisfying to the last bite, and the dish feels polished rather than rushed. As an establishment, P.F. Chang’s continues to justify its reputation. The atmosphere is refined yet approachable, the portions are generous, and the consistency speaks to a restaurant that values execution as much as experience. This Orange Chicken isn’t just enjoyable—it’s thoughtfully crafted, and it leaves a lasting impression that invites you back.

Google
We had an absolutely fantastic experience at P.F. Chang’s tonight, thanks to our wonderful waitress, Raquel. She truly went above and beyond to make our visit special. She made our son feel like an absolute superstar on his birthday, and he was just beaming the entire time. Raquel also gave us spot-on recommendations from the menu, and her accommodating, friendly nature really made us feel like we were in great hands. We left already talking about when we’ll be coming back. Thanks, Raquel, for making our night so memorable!

Google
Last night we had the worst experience we’ve ever had at P.F. Chang’s. From the moment we sat down, things were off. The plates at our table were dirty, and after ordering drinks, my water arrived with gross things floating in it. When we politely told our waiter and asked for clean plates and a Coke instead of water, his attitude toward us completely changed—for the worse. After that, he stopped checking on us and didn’t refill our drinks. We constantly had to wave him down for anything we needed. When our entrees arrived, we noticed the shrimp fried rice was somehow spicy, which was very strange. In our experience, fried rice is never spicy. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he said they “might’ve gone heavy-handed on the chili oil” and smirked about it, which felt very unprofessional. We’ve been here several times before and have always had great food and service, so this experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. This is not what we expected at all, especially from a place that’s always been amazing and delicious in the past.

Google
I ordered delivery (Uber Eats). I received cold House of Chang’s chicken and rice but piping hot egg drop soup. Now, I know what you’re probably thinking, but: I live less than a mile away from the restaurant, and the order was delivered immediately after pick up. The whole process took probably 10 minutes from placing the order to receiving it, so I’m genuinely convinced the restaurant simply gave me cold food to eat and that’s why the order was ready so quickly. The pork egg roll (also cold) was actually good with a nice crunch, but the House of Chang’s chicken was just bad, even after heating it up. Mushy chicken and dry cold rice. The egg drop soup was also subpar. Now, I understand eggs can turn gray from overcooking them but this (pictured) is pretty unappetizing. I didn’t finish my meal and I won’t be ordering again.

Google
Not a bad experience but also not the best experience. My family and I enjoyed the food, it wasn’t super delicious but it wasn’t terrible either. There was a server mix up so we had to wait longer to get served after we got the menus. The server gave us a complementary dessert for the long wait and mixup. He had great customer service despite everything which was nice! Overall, it’s a good place to eat but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back here again.

Yelp
The food they serve is good. Doesn't taste like your typical Chinese restaurant. Their prices have gone up a lot in the past few years. For that reason, I don't go as much as I once did. The service and ambiance are both good. P.S. I ordered a gift card online December 30 and paid $9.00 extra for FedEx overnight, rather than the USPS. It still hasn't been received! It was just shipped yesterday! That's poor service, but it's not a reflection on the Fairfax Corner location.

Yelp
Haven't dined here in a while. Was looking forward to their hot and sour soup and Kung pao chicken. The soup was very good, as I had remembered. The chicken looked good, but had a burnt taste. Service was very good. They weren't that busy for 5pm.

Yelp
We had a reservation for 6pm on Christmas for a party of 8. We checked in 10 minutes prior and were told there was a small wait. At 6:15 my husband asked the hostess when our table might be available. She responded "we are cleaning your table now. It should be ready in a minute." We had been standing outside in frigid temperature but moved inside because we thought the table was nearly ready. The waiting area was PACKED with people waiting for their table (whom all had reservations). We waited until 7pm (a full hour after our reservation). It was absolutely ridiculous and at no time did a hostess simply just tell us that they had either overbooked or couldn't accommodate us. We had to scramble to find another dinner option. A major annoyance many people waiting noticed that some diners seated had clearly finished their meals and were playing card games or chatting. Given it was Christmas Eve, the restaurant should have imposed a time limit.

shannon murphy ..

Yelp
Terrible!!!! We placed an order at 6:15pm. Said the order would be ready at 8pm. I came in at 8:10pm and asked about the order. I was told it was being worked on. At 9:00pm I asked again and was told it was not in the system. WHAT?!? Why was I told it was being worked on. You are a service business. I get it's New Years Eve and it's busy but hire people that are customer service oriented and actually check on orders when they tell you they are in the works. Email updates to people who are waiting. Do Better!

Yelp
On a recent visit at lunch time, we found that the entries included an appetizer and were all priced around $15. So, probably $30 for lunch for two. But, we ordered non-alcoholic drinks (e.g., coke and hot tea). Each of the drinks were almost $5; next time, it will be "tap water" to drink. That said, the food was good and the service was good.

Yelp
Food and service were very good. Ambiance is very nice - nicer than other Chinese restaurants. Menu selection is relatively broad. Only minor issue is the Chinese food is somewhat Americanized - I.e. flavor is relatively mild compared to Hunan or Szechwan. We order special three-course meals that were very reasonably priced for the amount of food we received. As an Elite reviewer, I personally feel the average rating should be closer to 4.2 - 4.5. Give it a try and see what you think!

Yelp
Wow. What a change since last July. Happy Hour was packed at the bar. The establishment was busy and Rylee always was a smiling face. This evening, three or four people at the bar. The restaurant was void of except for the outskirts which had maybe 30 people at peak dinner time. When we received our entrees it became evident why very few venture into the establishment. We had the $21.99 per person Chefs Dinner. We paid an additional $3 for the lettuce wraps. My wife had the Buttered Chicken and I had the Mongolian Beef for a $4 up charge. My wife's portion was what we have had in the past. My Mongolian Beef was appetizer size (1/2 of what I've had in the past). Thank goodness Rylee was there (last shift) and so at least there was great conversation. Don't think we will be coming back as PF Changs no longer is any dining value

Yelp
We hadn't been to a PF Chang's for years but went for a group dinner last weekend. Not sure how a restaurant can be so awful but we will not be going back. Our server was friendly but didn't seem to know the menu at all and could barely hear him talk - not effective in a loud restaurant. Had to repeatedly ask for water, for used plates to be taken away to make space, etc. The food is just abysmal. Nothing tastes even close to Chinese food. Almost all the dishes were either super sweet or super sour - strange combos. Everything is super cornstarched up as well. The menu is small and many dishes resemble one another. It really is sad - would have preferred to just order American Chinese takeout.

Yelp
David is the reason I had a great meal and experience. When I saw that the menu had changed and asked about vegan options, I was disappointed. David went way out of his way to make sure I didn't have a boring, steamed veggie meal. He double checked all ingredients with the chef and I had the stir fried Buddha's Feast with tofu. Sooo good. The ambiance was lovely and the food was delicious but the most impressive part if this visit was David.

Yelp
This was my first time here to pick up our take out orders for our Saturday dinner party after Christmas with my family of nine including two elementary school children. We picked up our order at the pick up area on the side or rear of the restaurant. There is a separate parking area, entrance and counter for take out pick up. We picked up the Chef's Feast for $20 per person with some options which serve 10 or more people. We added and ordered the additional spring rolls as an appetizer, which added an additional $50 to our order. We enjoyed the sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, spicy green beans, the vegetarian fried rice and the spring rolls. All were tasty to take out in trays, which we arranged at my family's home. Our pick up went smoothly as the staff was very accommodating to our needs including extra fortune cookies, sauces, chinese mustard and chopsticks. My total cost was $350 including gratuity. I would return here for more take out after the Christmas holidays.

Yelp
This restaurant just isn't the same. The drinks were terrible and the food plate came out hot but the food was room temperature. Now I remember why I stopped coming to this restaurant. I would NOT recommend!

Yelp
We came here for the first time in a while and the combination of comparatively smaller portions and higher prices made my mom feel depressed. I got the "crispy honey chicken" and it was less crispy (more soggy) and just less in general compared to the last time I got it. The service was good, though.

Yelp
We went to celebrate birthdays and were very happy with the service, food and ambiance. The managers made sure we felt welcomed and special. The server was great and the food was delicious. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I ordered delivery today because I was home sick with a cold. I then called the Fairfax restaurant to make sure they included the crispy noodles that come with soup in every Chinese restaurant because they had been left out of my last delivery order. I was told they now charge $1.99 for soup noodles, which is ridiculous but whatever. I asked the girl on the phone if I could add them to my order and she said no. I asked if she could take a new order by phone and give both orders to the driver-- no. I told her the noodles were my favorite part about the soup and asked how I could get them. She said someone would have to come pick them up! I said look, I'm home sick and I live alone. Can you please just throw some in? She said yes and hung up. My order when it was delivered had fortune cookies and chopsticks that I didn't want, but no noodles for the soup. Is this what passes for customer service at PF Chang's now??? They couldn't throw in a little bag of noodles that should be free, but that I was willing to pay for? What a stupid way to lose a customer.

Yelp
We frequently dine at this location and have never had any real issues. Stopped in for dinner earlier this evening and ordered our usual: Pork Egg Rolls, Mongolian Beef, and Chang's Spicy Chicken. It was hot and delicious! The service was not good. Our waiter was unfriendly and appeared to have had a chip on his shoulder. Made us feel uncomfortable. He never came back to check on us and walked by our table several times without saying a word. The restaurant had a few overhead lights out, so it was hard to see. The restaurant as a whole could use a good deep cleaning. We will return for the food, but don't want to be served by the same waiter ever again.

Yelp
Came here with my wife at around 12:30 on a Monday. It was pretty dead, surprisingly enough. We were seated immediately at a clean booth and Crystal was our server. She was pleasant and efficient. I had the lunch special with egg drop soup and Mongolian beef with white rice, and my wife had the crab wontons and chicken lettuce wraps. The soup was delicious and a bigger portion than I expected for a lunch special. And the beef was delicious, as always. The rice was pretty dry though. The crab wontons were just ok. They were overcooked, so waaay too crispy. But the lettuce wraps were very good and plenty of sauce came with the generous portion. One thing though: The ladies room was pretty gross. Smelled like an outhouse in there and the music was SO LOUD! I can't imagine how bad it must be on a Saturday night. I'm just glad the music in the dining room was much quieter.

Patrick C.

Yelp
Not really good for takeout anymore. Tonight, I placed an order via phone. It was read back to me wrong. I corrected it. I get there. The order is still wrong. It was only one item. The manager took care of that. Now, I have to go get something else because there's a time commitment and I knew I should've gone to Tysons. Takeout at Fairfax has been hit or miss for a while, but more miss these days. The manager offered to correct the order, and usually that wouldn't have been a problem, but there was a time issue, and if it's rushed, the order would've been wrong or the allergen issue ignored. That's why I did not wait for the order even though it was offered.
google avatar

Yelp
The appetizer was great. I had wontons. The main course was gross. Won't come here again. I told the waiter and he still charged me for it. Horrible

Yelp
Service was impeccable, Thank You Aly! My wife had the plum wine and loved it ! I had the Old Fashion and it was amazeballs! Started with lettuce wraps and they were fantastic. My wife had the orange chicken and I had the kung pao chicken, we asked for light sauce. The Mrs and I are kinda weird, we dont like our food drowned in a lot of the sauce. Turned out excellent and we have leftovers for lunch tomorrow! I must mention again that the service was top notch and Aly was a superstar server. Food and drinks were perfect. Thank You so much Aly, you are a Rockstar!

Yelp
The restaurant is nasty - dirty . Went to the bar and there was not 1 person at the bar - now I know why . The chairs are filthy dirty- They looked like they have not been cleaned in a year! Food - rice all in the crease of every chair . The bar wall just gross. If the bar is this dirty what does the kitchen look like ! My stomach has hurt all night . Changs close the doors obviously NO one cares. Where is the health department! Gross !

Yelp
So awesome!! Great service and good food . Ask for Letta, she is a great server. They catered to any need we had. Great girls night out.

Yelp
We haven't been to P.F. Chang's in a while, and so we came in for dinner as it is close to George Mason University, and wow, we were surprised with the prices that seem to have almost doubled in the last couple of years, having said that the food was decent and the service was good and prompt. The lettuce chicken wrap (as a starter), the Singapore noodles, fried rice, sesame chicken, wonton soup, and the egg drop were all great. The place was crowded but efficient.

Yelp
Aalyiah our waitress was adorable! I would go back just because of her! She took care of our noisy, all-over-the-place family celebrating my brother's birthday and we all had a blast, even my rambunctious nephews! Food at PF Chang's is not what I remember it to be, but we still had a blast nonetheless.

Seana M.

Yelp
PLEASE DON'T COME HERE!! Honestly the worse of the WORST restaurant, MOM N' POP chinese restaurants are much better in comparision!!! The waiting Staff and food are both a big issue. We have been visiting PF Chang's at Fairfax Corner location for years, but have experiencing their quality going down and down. Just mid-last week, my family and I went to celebrate an important occasion. We were there around late afternoon, and as we walked in, the server guided us to one section of the restaurant, where already all but one booths were full and she asked ushered us to the last empty one. Seems all other sections in the restaurant were all empty hence we requested for a different booth for some privacy. But, the server mentioned she was the only one in staff and hence wanted us to sit at the section that she's in-charge of. Though we didn't like her answer, we still obliged and sat in the last remaining booth. When the food arrived, all the quantities were smaller in size and totally bland in taste. The Hot & Sweet chicken soup had more of tofu and very less chicken (if we wanted tofu soup, we would have ordered one). Brought it to the server's attention, all she could say she will inform the chef about it and left. Their Mongolian Beef was best tasting beofre, but was totally over sauced and salty this time. The Spicy Chicken and Orange Chicken dishes tasted the same. Speaking about Orange chicken, the quantity was so less that I had to ask if it was part of lunch menu or dinner menu, to which the server mentioned it was dinner menu and they usually weigh their food before serving. The orange chicken and spicy chicken had less chicken pcs and more of flour pcs. We had to request the server if she can fix it, she went and called the kitchen supervisor who came to see the issue, after looking at the quantities in the serving plates he agreed that it looks lesser than usual. So, he took the chicken dishes back and brought them back after a long long time, but by then we were almost done with our lunch and opted to box them. Overall a very bad experience for a sit down restaurant, food quantity and quality is mediocre for the high price tab we paid, and won't be visiting their restaurants anymore.

Anna S.

Yelp
Hot garbage. The food was bland, some of it was burnt, and all around just not good. Also, the service was terrible and the server repeatedly got orders wrong. My friend was even charged for a vodka soda that literally had no vodka in it. You're better off with fast food. Especially with how stupid expensive it is now.
google avatar

lynn C.

Yelp
What happened to this place? I have not been here in years and I won't come back. Poor service, bad cocktails and food not good. It wasn't like this when I used to come years ago. Overall, I like P.F. Chang's. However, this location needs help.
google avatar

C W.

Yelp
It's disappointing to see this place going down hill the way it is. We went there for a late lunch, early dinner and it was dead. Not a huge deal for the time frame, but only 2 tables when we first got there and a few of the employees were sitting in the booth in their phones. Again, dead so I get it, but as a business you should sit in chairs out of the dinning area... The food was sad. I got a cup of egg drop soup that we shouldn't have paid for, but the server didn't care to ask why the bowl was still full by the end of the meal and I hate being that person to send it back. It tasted like it was cooked with ham and some other flavors that don't belong in egg drop soup, especially the P.F. Chang's version. The meat/seafood quality of the Mongolian beef and the crispy honey shrimp has made a decline, but costs more. Unfortunately can say we are done with PF Chang's. There have been too many visits in the past couple years that just don't make it worth the expensive trip. I should have listened to my friends and family that said to not waste my time and money here anymore. It gets an extra start because our server was friendly, but that was really it...

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Good experience overall, next time I think we could do a better job at ordering a variety of food other than just happy hour. We went because I was craving lettuce wraps and had a birthday reward and were lucky enough to make happy hour. The service was a 5/5. We at at the bar and the two bartenders who took care of us were really friendly and attentive.

Himanshu K.

Yelp
Service was decent and the happy hour is a total scam, they have done half price appetizers and they are serving you half serving of the appetizers! Like what? If I'm paying half price on your slow time, it's to get people in so they can experience the full now half? Went to the bathroom it was dirty, and everyone was giving this negative look, I mean it's a huge chain and they are literally scamming people, they gave me three dumplings for happy hour and the lettuce wrap had barely any chicken, very disappointing for a big name like P.F. Chang! No wonder they have this low ratings, it's just a matter of time before they go out of business. Not coming back!

James J.

Yelp
Last night, April 28, 2025 I was deciding what TIP to leave for our subpar service at PF Chang's when I realized something was wrong. A party of 10 usually has a service charge added, yet this bill was marked "Gratuity Not Included". So I reviewed the bill, which I seldom do, and found a $61.16 gratuity was included. I wonder how often people double tip? I especially disliked the happy face thank you the server added next to the Tip space on the copy I was to sign. The manager didn't seem too concerned when I pointed this out. UGH.

Shelley T.

Yelp
Went during lunch and should have known the food was gonna be a big miss judging by the empty restaurant at the height of lunch hour. We stayed for about four hours and no more than 10 guests arrived. Why? The food is honestly bland as ever and downright gross. The spring rolls had mushrooms and other unrecognizable food in it and the sesame chicken was as underwhelming and disappointing as the spring rolls. Absolutely no taste or flavor like year's past. What in the world happened to PF Chang's. Really, really gross but wait staff was friendly so they get the one star.

Sandra K.

Yelp
Terrible in every way. Bad hygiene being the worse problem. Servers need to be mindful of delivering food to table carefully and without sticking their fingers in your food. Who can accept that?
google avatar

Steph L.

Yelp
Enjoyed another evening out with my Bestie at one of our favorite restaurants. I love this location as the food was good and our waiter was the nicest.
google avatar

Simon W.

Yelp
Have not been to a PF Changs in a few years but stopped by for lunch and were impressed. Lunch bowls are reasonably priced and very tasty. The spicy chicken was excellent and the sauce layered into the brown rice for a decent meal. My wife had crispy chicken bowl and loved it. Menu seemed a bit limited, but that might be for lunch. I wish it was closer to us, as a decent chinese restaurant seems to be non-existent in Loudoun county.

John O.

Yelp
Jannin was a fabulous server, friendly, fast and always with a smile. The food was hot, scrumptious and especially the steamed dumplings were very flavorful. Kudos!

Abby L.

Yelp
This was one of the worst dine in experiences I've had. First off, when we ordered drinks there was a bug in one of them. Second, when we ordered our appetizers the vegetable spring rolls were cold, and the inside texture was off putting. After that, I had ordered an entry in which I asked for the shrimp to be removed because I don't eat seafood by choice. The waitress later came back with the entry and when I asked her to double check if there was no shrimp, she asked if I was allergic and then chose to tell me there was also oyster sauce inside. Why would you only tell me after I ordered the dish? Management was not good and service was also slow even though there was no one really eating there.
google avatar

Abi M.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to this but was disappointed. I can't say much about the ambiance or the service as this was a takeout order. The food wasnt great. Real hit and miss. I love shrimps and struggled to eat their firecracker shrimps. It was overly coated with bread and mushy. The kids sweet and sour kids meal was fine for my little ones, happy they tried it. My husband liked the kung pao chicken he got and, the fried rice was good. I don't think we'll be ordering from here again.

Linda M.

Yelp
I had my husband pick up my lunch. I was shocked that they had raised the prices to dinner prices. I wanted lunch portions and thought I was ordering them. I ordered shrimp with candied walnuts which they no longer have. They would substitute shrimp with peanuts fore $25.29. Crispy green bean appetizer was now dinner sized priced at $10.49. A cup of Hot and Sour Soup was 6.29 with your having to pay extra for the crunchies. 4 sping rolls became 3 for $6.29. The food was mediocre at best. I will never go to their restaurant again. I will stick with the Chinese restaurant in Greenbriar without the ambiance but with delicious food at reasonable prices.

Yelp
Shoutout to Taylor for making me feel at ease and enjoying a nice happy hour. I have never been to this location before, usually I frequent the one at Tysons Galleria. I have never had calamari that was fried with tempura, and I can't wait to have some again. Also can't go wrong with pan fried shrimp dumplings. Taylor tried to tempt me with some Great Wall chocolate cake for dessert, but knew when to say when. Next time!

Carlos P.

Yelp
I arrived early to dine, and the young lady at the front desk was very professional. It was my first time eating at P.F. Chang's, so I asked her for a recommendation. She suggested the Firecracker Shrimp, which turned out to be a 10/10! Thank you to both the young lady and the server for their professionalism and excellent recommendation.

Lynda S.

Yelp
To who it may concern, as a long time patron of your location at Fairfax Corner, I am sorry to report that today's experience will prohibit myself and my family from ever stepping into your concept again...my 85 year old father who is passionate about your lettuce wraps, walked into your restaurant near 3:00pm today and requested to make a reservation for 8 adults for a very special occasion. He was met by an incredibly rude and disrespectful manager who basically gave him the impression that his time was being wasted on my father and stated "a waitress, could have done this..." My level of disgust in a restaurant that refers to itself as family focused, is unbelievably disappointing. I hope this feedback leads to better hiring practices along with development programs and values for your employees!

Service was great. Food poor. No chicken in sesame chicken, only breading. Ordered 3 entrees. Raw broccoli on all three. Salmon dish was okay Kang pao brussel sprouts was good but not spicy and not taste like should. Smoke on japanese old fashion was off putting compared to most other restaurants Woukd not go back even at half the cost we paid

Yelp
I only rated them because it doesn't give me an option not to rate them. The staff at the fairfax location could not handle to demand of the guests dining in. From the start, the reserved table I requested was not available upon arrival, next as the host was walking us to the table he advised us that we could only stay for 90 minutes; then the Valentine's Day menu was not offered even though they had advertised a three course menu for that special day at $19.99/person, needless to say we had to ask for that menu. In addition to the above, They mixed the brown rice with the white rice and when we asked about it; the server told us the dishes were dirty so they mixed them. Telling customers that you don't have enough clean dishes is unacceptable! They had an abundance of staff there but they all seemed to be hanging around at the front desk, maybe one or two of them should have been directed to help with cleaning the dishes. That was the worst dinner experience I've ever had.

Yelp
Food was delicious and very fresh. Our server Noah was super nice and helpful on deciding what to eat. Looking forward to returning!

Yelp
Ate at PF Chang's at Fairfax Corner past Thursday. It used to be our favorite restaurant. The food taste and quality has deteriorated and the prices are unrealistic. We were very disappointed. Will not go there again.

Yelp
The Mongolian beef is delicious and I'm usually not a fan. In fact, our table got many entrees and not one disappointed. Our server was very pleasant and the ambiance was peaceful. Definitely a place to try. Worth the hype!!

Yelp
Portion was very small overall. Singaporean noodles were too damn salty! Service was not the best, our waiter needed some help. They want you to pay extra for lettuce and extra rice? Will not go again.

Yelp
Excellent meals. The waiter is new! We had to ask several like two soy sauces, refill water, and others. The waiter is slow. We waited for a check. We do plan coming back! We hope the waiter to do better in time management. And bring stuffs without asking or forget to add, and refill water quickly.
