15 Great Places to Eat and Drink in the Marina

"Bobby Hossain opened his food truck in 2010, nothing new as his grandmother owned three restaurants in Thailand and his parents ran San Francisco’s Rama Thai until it closed in the early aughts. He later opened his first permanent location in spring 2023, bringing five-spice chicken and green curry to the former Yukol Palace location." - Lauren Saria, Eater Staff

New Bay Area Restaurants: Bandit, Maker of San Francisco’s Best Breakfast Sandwiches, Opens Dogpatch Restaurant | Eater SF

San Francisco Food Truck Phat Thai Slings Soju and Crispy Pork Fried Rice at Its First Restaurant in the Marina | Eater SF

"Launched as a food truck in 2010 and now moving into a permanent Marina space, Phat Thai preserves its original menu—braised five spice chicken, pad see ew with tempura prawns and soft-shell crab, and the crispy pork fried rice that customers begged to bring back—while turning the popular weekly specials into daily offerings. The move to 2380 Lombard Street comes as Hossain takes over the lease from a family friend, brings his brother in to run a bar with six beers on draft plus a selection of sake and soju, and commissions a San Francisco–inspired mural by artist Inkzilla; for now the restaurant will serve food and drinks through 10 p.m. with plans to pursue an extended service permit. The grand opening is Saturday, June 3 from 11 a.m. through 10 p.m., and Hossain sees the Marina—buoyed by hotels, tourists, and the Union Street Festival—as a favorable location for transitioning from truck to brick-and-mortar." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Great service and portion sizes. Solid food overall, just a bit surprised that our Pad Kee Mao came in thin noodles vs wide noodles. The pineapple fried rice was also good, just a bit too strong on the yellow curry powder for our liking. We also ordered the phat wings which were solid and tasted fresh. Overall, a solid spot if you are around the area for Thai food.

Google
Picked up dinner from Phat Thai and it was delicious! The flavors were authentic and everything was fresh. Highly recommend for anyone looking for tasty Thai food.

Google
This was a top notch Thai experience! From the space, to the drinks, service and the food…oh wow the food was perfection! Authentic Thai with a level of WoW whennit comes to spice! Definitely check it out - no reservations so go by 7:30 to get in with ease!

Google
Finally, a good Thai restaurant in SF! The mild sweet tinge in their Pad Kee Mao sealed the deal for me. The noodles were cooked well in sauce and tofu was properly fried. Basil leaves added a great touch. Don’t forget to get their fried tofu - that peanut sauce was amazing! Would definitely come back.

Google
Please don’t miss this eatery, excellent Thai cuisine guaranteed to be served of your choice from the menu or takeout. Tried drunken noodles with tofu, bell peppers, presentation appeal and taste all winners!

Google
Everything I ordered was 10/10. Phat Rolls, Tofu Pad Thai, Sigha Beer. Service and atmosphere were also very nice.

Google
I LOVE Phat Thai! Bobby and crew are always so accommodating and friendly. Indicative of Thai culture, their hospitality is always on point. The food is authentic and always delicious. I love the fried rolls, the spicy papaya salad, and the mango sticky rice. And don't get me started on the amazing nitro Thai iced tea...a MUST have! Highly recommended and I will forever be a loyal customer!

Google
I was staying at the Infinity Hotel and returning a little late when I noticed that Phat Thai was still open. Since I wanted to have dinner in my room, I decided to get takeout. I ordered the fried pork with fried rice, and the food was absolutely great! The sauce that came with it was amazing and really brought the dish together. 🍚 Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to experience the dine-in ambiance this time, but I’d definitely love to try it next time I’m in the area. The only downside for me was the pricing. I ordered two of the same dish and ended up paying around $50, which felt a bit on the higher side💲. That said, the taste definitely compensated for it. Overall, a great spot for tasty Thai food! 🥘

Yelp
Well now, let me spin you a tale of unexpected delight and culinary marvel. As I meandered through the crisp January air, not in pursuit of vittles but rather led by whimsy, my eyes did chance upon a sign so beguiling it set my appetite astir. It read: "Phat Thai." The name alone bore such repetition as to suggest a certainty of mastery, and I was reminded, indeed, of Sir Danksalot and his fabled TukTuk of enchantment. "Why not?" I thought. If fate bids me here, who am I to decline her summons? The exterior was as welcoming as an old friend's smile, and within, I found a cozy abode of some twenty tables, a bar gleaming with bottles, a neon sign casting its colorful glow, and the hum of cheerful music. The staff, though not wholly of Thai origin, bustled about with a genial air that transcended such trifles. After all, as the Thais say, "jai yen yen"--keep your heart cool. Now, the menu--ah, the menu! A cornucopia of delights awaited, and lo, there was even happy hour on a weekend! Half-priced Singha and Chang? Why, that is the kind of generosity to make a man weep with gratitude. As a vegetarian, I cast my eye upon their Pad Thai, which, though adorned with egg, was graciously altered to suit my needs. Such accommodation deserves no less than a kop khun mak mak (many thanks indeed). But the true gem lay in their chili selection. Four varieties, mind you--not the paltry one or two most establishments offer. Here was the full spectrum of heat and flavor, a veritable mai pen rai (no worries) for the adventurous palate. And the beer! Beyond the local brews, they boasted IPAs and other frothy wonders fit for any connoisseur. Cleanliness and order reigned supreme, the floors shining as though polished by the hands of angels. This place, my friends, is a sanctuary for those seeking both sustenance and a bit of cheer. I shall say without hesitation or hyperbole, Phat Thai Phat Thai Phat Thai is a beacon of joy, and I recommend it to all who value good food, good drink, and a touch of magic in their dining. --A humble wanderer and lover of fine things.

Yelp
It was my turn to plan date night and I picked this spot for dinner after mini golf at the Palace of Fine Arts. We arrived around 5pm and maybe because it was a holiday weekend but there was a lot of street parking available on a Saturday evening. We were invited to sit wherever we liked and started off with drinks and an appetizer. I loved the peachy keen cocktail, but it's on the sweeter end so I could only do one. B got a beer and we split the fried chicken skins. We ordered them spicy and while they were flavorful, they didn't register as hot to me. I actually had a lot of trouble picking an entree because everything sounded so good but after getting reccs from our server, I ordered the chicken pad Thai and B got the ka pow with bbq duck. Our food came out quickly and was really good. I will say, the pad Thai is marked as spicy and it didn't register on my heat scale at all, but it was super flavorful so don't let that deter you. The service was great and I was enamored by the video of street food from Thailand on the TVs. Would definitely recommend and return.

Yelp
Fun spot. Super clean! One of the coolest and kindest and sweetest staff EVER. I felt like at home, and they are family. Like without exaggerating. The food was ok, not super wow. Got an appetizer and a main dish. The app was good the main dish was ok. I ll come back and try other things.
google avatar

Linda Y.

Yelp
This place gives me mixed feelings because the food all looks kind of off in terms of color and appearance (like the green curry, pad thai etc all looked a bit funny) but tasted fine. I got the green curry as my main and it was a big portion size and I liked all the veggies in it - but also the curry wasn't as smooth as I wanted. Went with a group of 5 friends and everyone also liked their food but thought the textures could be better. Ambiance inside is chill and service was decent. Nice having Thai food options in the Marina!

Yelp
Everything was FABULOUS as always! I highly recommend Phat Thai. Thank you Ashley & family!

Yelp
I liked most of what we ordered, especially the fresh spring rolls ($12) with lots of crunchy romaine, tasty tofu, mint and housemade peanut sauce. Yum. My son's crispy pork and fried rice was delicious but seemed like it was more a Korean pork tonkatsu dish rather than Thai. The rice was especially flavorful and a great complement to the dish. The menu miss - and I was braced for it- was the Lad Na main ($20 + $4 for beef). Not only did it not compare to the old Penny's Noodle Shop in Chicago but it was swimming in gravy like a stew in a glutinous, flavorless beef sauce. Sigh, no. It wasn't good. It also looks different in photos of this dish here on Phat Thai's site if you take a look. Next time, I'll tap Pad See Ew, pineapple fried rice and Pad Thai that all get raves. Service was attentive once we got their attention. It took almost 8-10 minutes to get our table wiped down and given menus and water. After that, smooth sailing. Great location on Lombard, look for the vibrant orange awning. Decent street parking especially after 8pm once metered spots reserved for employee shuttles free up.

Yelp
I love this place! The interior is very cute and clean, the service is fantastic and the waitress I've had the last two times now is the sweetest! Also the food is delicious, portions great sizing (I'm able to get two meals out of one order!) and love the pricing. Will be a regular here!
google avatar

Val S.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service, and everyone loved their food. The green curry was delicious and actually had some spiciness to it, which I like. Would definitely come back to try more dishes.
google avatar

Wilson J.

Yelp
My rice came plastic wrapped, which left me feeling pretty played for my money. First off, Thai restaurants have fresh rice and Noodles dishes? Fresh rice

Yelp
This places food was amazing it came out hot, had to blow on it to eat it. The wait staff was very friendly
google avatar

Yelp
Cute shop right on Lombard street in the marina area. One thing I have to say is they really bring the Thai heat. I usually get hot in Thai places but decided to get medium and it was the same caliber. The food it's self tasted great too! The ka prow side was essentially the same thing they added to the pad kee mao noodles as well. Both were very tasty and reasonably priced. I do which the pad kee mao had the typically sliced chicken pieces instead though. Service was good too no complaints the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. definitely a place to go back to!

Yelp
The food is amazing and the staff is super nice! Great place to bring your friends and family!

Yelp
Smaller place in downtown sf. Wasn't hard to get a seat for 4. We ordered quite a few items and all were so good! I love Thai, but I really liked their wings and panang curry. It was fire. Definitely plan to be back.
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
Third time in one week! HH Kirby camp something Soju cocktail was delicious, filled with muddled strawberries and lychee. The Tom kha was great and flavorful also, perfect and not too much coconut milk. The pad see ew was not as good as pad Thai and does not have enough veggie nor tofu.
google avatar

Jermaine J.

Yelp
Love me some Thai food. Was craving pad Thai late in the evening and lucked out with this place. I was NOT disappointed. Ordered the Tofu pad Thai because I'm trying to be healthy these days. Wow. So yummy and they actually had a buy one get one free so I have lunch for tomorrow. Woohoo!! I'll definitely be ordering from this place again. Such flavorful food and speedy service!! Keep up the amazing work guys!! Im a new fan!! Woohoo!!
google avatar

Kiana L.

Yelp
Great Thai spot, super affordable! Service was great & food was tasty. Mango sticky rice had a good amount of sweetness to it & the right mangoes were used so it was extra good. Panang curry was a bit watery but I liked the flavor & had a decent amount of protein in it (chicken, which I added). Pad see ew was delicious! Love this place, it has plenty of tables even though it looks like a hole in the wall type place, & TVs around the restaurant playing foodie youtube videos which were very entertaining.
google avatar

Yelp
This spot was just okay. They did get my order wrong, I asked for egg and instead received chicken. Normally this would have been fine except I was having the chicken icks that day and just the smell made my stomach turn. The waitress was nice and offered to replace it but at that point it was a wrap.

Yelp
Located nearby Cow Hollow, Phat Thai definitely has the foot traffic. We've been a few times for pick up, dine in, and ordering takeout! My first time there we picked up some mango sticky rice per suggestion from my friend and not only were they packed properly in secure takeout boxes, they were super warm and the rice still soft when we got home. The coconut milk that the sticky rice was in had the perfect sweetness balanced with the milkiness as the perfect topping for the rice. The mango sliced on top of the rice was very ripe and sweet; paired with the rice and milk tasted heavenly! This time we went, it looked like there was an event or something so most of the tables were taken; had we dined in, we may not have gotten a seat. Our second time there we dined in. There were many open tables at 7pm ish when we arrived and we were seated promptly; someone came to take our order shortly after. We ordered a peach drink from their alcoholic beverage menu, and a phat thai wings as starter. My friend ordered a duck fried rice and I ordered a pad thai. Their pad thai was so good!! It was saucy but not soggy and the beansprouts weren't overcooked, seemingly helping balance the otherwise heaviness of the entree. Portions were huge! We took the leftover wings home and I had leftover pad thai, which put together was enough for my lunch the next day! The third time, I ordered takeout! I ordered the same two dishes: phat thai wings and a pad thai! The wings didn't seem as saucy as they were at the restaurant, but still good nonetheless. The pad thai was still really good, but the steam from the box during transport sort of made the veggies soggy and the noodles were too wet at the top. It also didn't taste as well reheated so this dish specifically I think I would order in person next time. I think a curry or fried rice may have done better for take out. Overall, flavors were still good and if in a pinch, I would order takeout again, but definitely go in person first. Give them a try for sure! Though the place is smaller inside, we did not have to wait for a table, and I feel the flavors will taste significantly better in person!

Yelp
Quick, inexpensive Thai food right in the Marina district! My friends and I were able to get a last minute reservation right before the dinner rush. We got to try the: - Chicken satay - Fresh rolls - Calamari - Pad Thai - Pad See Ew - Pineapple fried rice - Green curry with beef - Tom Yum soup Every dish was well seasoned and not overly salty or greasy at all. I was pleasantly surprised with the calamari and are big slices that look just like onion rings. The service was quick and attentive. I'd highly recommend this spot!
google avatar

Mauricio B.

Yelp
Really good spot for Thai food! Great prices, really liked the panang curry and pad Thai. Only putting 4 because of the calamari, wasn't a huge fan but everything else from drinks to our dishes were delicious. The staff is also really nice and attentive, didn't get her name but she took really good care of us. They also have Chang beers which are my fav from Thailand! I recommend if you're in marina and craving Thai food!
google avatar

Cora L.

Yelp
Phat Thai made me the most delicious "Ka Pow" modified for gluten sensitivity (no soy). The ratio of stir-fried chicken to bell peppers, green beans, chilies, and basil was perfection!! I also had a bite of the matcha cheesecake, and it was so good. If they have any cheesecake available, I highly recommend grabbing a slice or two. Love the lively and welcoming decor here. Servers were kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. Restaurant is really clean and spacious. Def will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
This place doesn't miss! Highly recommend trying the Boat noodles (braised beef noodle soup) and the fried chicken skin!! Great customer service! Bobby & Ashley are so nice as well as the rest of the staff! P.S. the restroom is always clean, which is a huge deal for me. It just lets me know that they care about their customers and their reputation!
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
This is a solid Thai spot that was reasonably priced. Tucked in the mission you can walk around and do some shopping and find a reliable meal here. Nothing bad to report, but nothing stellar stood out.
google avatar

Nazia A.

Yelp
One of the few halal Thai places I've found in San Francisco! Absolutely delicious in terms of flavor. The ambience is homey and the service is great! They check up on you throughout and bring back food in a timely manner. P.s LOVE their sticky mango rice
google avatar

Mafrey M.

Yelp
The menu at Phat Thai was fabulous. I went there with the kid, they provided us a highchair. We started with spring rolls, a kid loved them and contimues asking more. I order lard na beef as it is my favorite Thai dish. The taste was authentic Thai food and delicious! Dessert, I had blueberries cheesecake, it was superrrr good. I personally do not eat cheese but this dessert made a combination of blueberries and cheese very well. I highly recommended this restaurant!!!
google avatar

Avishek B.

Yelp
Ordered the pad kee mao with extra chicken. When the dish came there was barely any chicken pieces in there, some shreds here and there. When I mentioned about it to the staff there, they rudely responded that's how it is there. Having eaten at hundereds of other Thai places, I can at least tell that's not a standard amount of protein for which they charged extra. Disappointing customer service, they also didn't refill our water properly. Receipt attached in case the owner claims that pad kee mao was not ordered with extra chicken.
google avatar

Annie L.

Yelp
I have not tried Phat Thai during their food truck days but I keep seeing them on my drive on Lombard so I decided to come here to pick up some dinner. The menu is small but has a good amount of appetizers, curries, noodles, rice plates, soups & salads, desserts & drinks. I ordered the chicken fried rice and the eggplant & tofu over jasmine rice. Both dishes were bomb!!! I would rank this on my top 5 favorite Thai food place! The fried rice was sooo yummy! The eggplant is filed with aromatic flavors from sweet, spicy, salty and the added dash of onions and basil. Sooo good and would definitely try to stop in more often!
google avatar

Holger I.

Yelp
They literally add new good flavor to the Marina District with their Tom Yum soup and Papaya Salad! The names are the same but the selection of herbs and spices is different compared to other places in the city. Medium spicy is already advanced here and measures to 3 glasses of water!
google avatar

Ruta G.

Yelp
I don't often go to the Marina, but I will for Phat Thai! I've been going to their food truck for years and happy they finally opened up their own brick and mortar! They make amazing food, give outstanding service, and have such a welcoming space! We ordered thai teas, green curry, fresh rolls, pad ke mao (drunken noodles), and the som tum (papaya) salad. All were so very good and I wish I had room to order more! I'll def be back!
google avatar

Christiana H.

Yelp
This cute little place was right next to my hotel. The customer service was TOP TIER. I had the beef fried rice and my partner had the Ka pow. The food was amazing. They gave me the pepper gravy to try and it made the food even better. I wanted to try so many things. I with I was here longer. Again, the customer service was everything it should be in any restaurant. I'll come again when I return!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
We literally came here by accident as we meant to go to a nearby place. I think it was meant to be bc this is now one of my favorite Thai restaurants! We were served by one of the owners Ashley who provided excellent service. The food is fresh and you must check it out! The Tofu spring rolls with peanut sauce is worth getting too btw. I was informed that this place opened up in 2023. I hope they expand to other locations too like in San Jose!
google avatar

SuSun F.

Yelp
No joke- this was the best pad see ew I've had. I'm from out of town but will definitely be back the next time I visit SF. Our food was done quickly, it was fresh and packed nicely with generous portions. I was impressed with the chicken. Picked up our order and went to the Palace of Fine arts to enjoy our food. 10/10 recommend
google avatar

Yelp
OMG!! What a nice place that serves delicious Thai food. Me and my wife had a great time , great service I highly recommend it.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. The food is consistently delicious. I love the Pad Se Ew -- not too sweet, just the right amount of smokiness, lots of flavor... The red and green curries also hit the mark! I'm also a fan of the Green Papaya Salad ... Spicy, refreshing, crunchy. Dine in or take out -- always great! Super friendly staff, too!
google avatar

Angela D.

Yelp
Tastyyy!! Delicious, authentic food, friendly service, and a nicely decorated, spacious interior.. overall a great time!! We frequent krapow Gai and the veggies to meat ratio was the best. Heartwarming tomyum soup and crispy shrimps in a blanket. Green curry was flavorful, and we topped it all off with the mango sticky rice. 10/10 would come again! Thanks for a great experience!
google avatar

Abigail A.

Yelp
Picked up Phat Thai the other day when I was sick. They were super quick it was only a 10 minute wait for a phone order. We got Tom Yum soup with shrimp, pad see ew, and mango sticky rice. The soup and pad see ew were really good but not amazing. My favorite thing was the mango sticky rice. The mango was fresh and perfect with the warm coconut-y sticky rice. Don't skip the mango sticky rice! It's was the perfect end to our meal. This is a great place with good service to get some Thai take out.

Yelp
Excellent food! Great Customer service. Highly recommend Pad See Ew, fried rice and chicken Satay. Enjoyed the food!

Jerrold P.

Yelp
I have one word that comes to mind WOW. What incredible talent when it comes to authentic Thai food. I was impressed the first time I dined at this restaurant when they first opened but now that they have expanded the menu on a few items I enjoy made this place hit a 5 star level. The owners greeted and served us which made the experience that much better. Loved ambiance and custom mural. Dine here and my perception is you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Javier P.

Yelp
After a long drive from San Diego, thought we would have dinner here. Glad we did, cause the food was delicious. Service was excellent after recommending the salmon my lady made up her mind. It's was delicious, as for me I had the pad see ew noodles with tofu. Also delicious. Beer was in a frosted glass which was great. Small enough of location which I actually appreciate. Next trip to San Francisco we shall return.
google avatar

Carlos M.

Yelp
EXCELLENT!!! Best Thai you can certainly enjoy. Authentic flavors made with a rich taste. Don't miss out. If you come to the city you must try Phat Thai. The ambiance and customer service is above and beyond. Your tummy will thank you for it.
google avatar

Josh N.

Yelp
We went back to Phat Thai for a quick Friday Night dessert and got the Mango Sticky Rice and it was 10/10. Probably the best mango sticky rice I have ever had and it's very reasonably priced at $10. If you eat here, DO NOT skip on this dessert
google avatar

Yelp
The lady who owns this place is so sweet! Super cute quaint spot. Will def be coming back

Yelp
Food was really good for the price. Got good portions. Customer service was awesome. Felt welcomed. Def will come back. Me and my fiancé got the braised chicken plate $16, the Ka Pow plate $15 (good spice kick), and the Thai wings 7pc was $10 ( the best out of all ) Thank you for your service !!

Karina G.

Yelp
nice atmosphere we went when they opened at 5 and got some noodles and curry. service was good they got us our food pretty fast since we were the only ones in there at the time.

Eve Solomon ..

Yelp
The food for the most part was excellent HOWEVER the CRAB FRIED RICE WAS INEDIBLE ( and the most expensive thing we ordered). If I had been inside the restaurant instead I'd having it delivered I would have SENT IT BACK

Zeke C.

Yelp
I came into phat Thai after a quick bike ride across the golden gate. The owners were very welcoming. I ordered the drunken noodles with beef and Tom yum soup Thai spicy. Absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked noodles, super spicy with lots of meat. 10/10 The Tom yum was delicious and spicy as well...perfect for a cold day by the ocean to warm me up. Can wait to go back. Straight

Yelp
Enjoyed a family style dinner with friends and family at Phat Thai. It was fantastic. We had great food and enjoyed amazing service from all of the staff. We tried literally everything on the menu and it was all delicious. Can't wait to return for another visit!
