"This Staten Island restaurant in the Rosebank neighborhood under chef Emanuel Imperial offers a mix of modern dishes — such as adobo chicken wings and sisig tacos, featuring crispy shells filled with minced chicken — alongside more traditional fare like kaldereta, a goat stew, and crispy pata, a deep-fried pig knuckle. Spring roll lumpia are served either fried, as is most common, or fresh with steamed skins." - Robert Sietsema, Eater Staff

I am very happy with the exceptional service my family and friends have received during our visits to Phil Am Restaurant. The delicious food options such as their tapa, lechong kawali, inasal, and sisig are a testament to their culinary skills. What truly stands out, however, is the warm and kind demeanor of the staff, including Ate Greta and Ate Maneth. They have consistently been attentive to our needs, making our dining experiences truly enjoyable. As we have been frequent patrons, I have developed a personal connection with the staff, who have become like good friends to me. I have taken to introducing them to my family and friends, and I will continue to support the business not only for its excellent food but also for its exceptional service. Masarap suportahan ang ating kapwa Pilipino. :)

Anne Hathaway did not spit in my food.

Google
I usually enjoy Filipino lechon kawali (fried pork belly), but I liked it a little less as Bicol, in which it is swimming in ultra-creamy coconut & shrimp paste. It might've been nicer as a dipping sauce. But I'm still grateful for the experience, since I'm not as well-versed in Filipino cuisine as I thought I was. Great restaurant!

Google
Amazing restaurant! The food is beyond awesome and the servings are massive! Indeed a bang for the buck! On top of that- the service is great and the place has a cozy “homey” atmosphere that’s surely gonna entice you to keep coming back :)

This little place is just heavenly! I moved to the area 3 years ago, and I have to come here at least once a month. The food is fantastic; very flavorful and with a good variety. The Chicken Inasal is one of my favorites. The sizzling pussit is amazing, and the crispy pata is so good! I always pregame it with a melon chiller. The portions are great also because they’re not small, but not too big either, so you don’t feel bad after you’re done. The ube ice cream is just the perfect dessert to a great meal, with the turron! Oh man, it will send you through the roof. If you’re in Rosebank, you definitely gotta try Phil-Am Kusina!

We go out with the boys to dinner every month. This has to be one of our favorite spots. Gretchen our hostess was so nice, friendly and accommodating that it was a fantastic experience! The food was authentic Phillipines style. I pricing is very reasonable. I highly recommend this hidden jewel of a spot.

Google
We went to Phil-Am Kusina by happenstance. We went to an event near by and was looking for a place to have lunch. I think we made a great decision. The staff was courteous and attentive. All the food that we ordered was great. But you definitely need to order the Okoy Fritters and the Sisig Tacos. They were to die for. If I'm ever in the area I'll be visiting this establishment.

Google
2024 Update STILL the best place in DI for Filipino food Their fish sisig and cathedral -like setting gives a relaxed feel. Their Melon Chiller is also a must have. Come alone, with a group, done in or carry out. Either way, make sure you come.

We were really looking forward to trying their expansive menu, for we've been craving authentic Filipino food for quite a while. However, the food was mediocre at best unfortunately. Please keep in mind that this only applies to the items we ordered, for I'm still interested in trying their other items as well! We ordered the beef sirloin brunch (tapsilog), the chicken wing brunch (wingsilog), the pork sisig (sisig baboy), the lumpia pork, melon chiller, and finished with the ube ice cream. The beef sirloin was so over cooked that it was incredibly rough unfortunately, especially since it had good flavor that coated the tough beef. The chicken wing brunch was on the sweeter side and only came with two drums and to mid wing pieces. The pork sisig was my most craved item, but it was overly tough and sour, which was very disappointing since I usually love Filipino pork sisigs :/ The garlic rice that accompanied them were very mild in garlic, which was another unfortunate disappointment. The lumpia, melon chiller, and ube ice cream was our favorite. Lumpia was light and tiny, making them the perfect snack! The melon chiller was so melon-y that I highly recommend trying it! The ube ice cream finisher was surprisingly creamy and not overly sweet like some other ube ice cream we had. Although this experience was definitely more disappointing than pleasurable, we would still come back to try their other selections! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

Yelp
The place is easy to find with parking available in the front. They offer a good variety of options on the menu, and the restaurant is clean and suitable for groups. However, during my last visit, the sinigang didn't taste as good as before--maybe they have a new cook.

Yelp
Ordered take out one night and everything was terrible. Look at this rice to dish portion. How do I finish that with just 2 bites of rice? I tried ordering more but they didn't let me pay with Amex. I tried paying with debit and they said the minimum is too little. They are so cheap on the rice, for a dish that is $28.... I've never been so hungry after eating a kare kare. You would expect $28 gets you full but I was wrong. Never coming back here again.

Kanea M.

Yelp
They make amazing Krispy Pata! Their pork is not greasy or heavy, it's crunchy and flavorful as one would hope. They have the traditional dishes you could find in Manila and the surrounding provinces. Their restaurant is also nicely decorated and gives the pride of the Philippines .

Kin L.

Yelp
Taste worse than before, meat over cooked , crispy pork is chewy, and tasteless. Used to be very tasty n good portion

Carrie C.

Yelp
Called in to order ahead for pick up, they require you to give payment over the phone. The pork lumpia rolls are good, had a similar taste to Vietnamese spring rolls with a mild smokey sweet taste to it. The Pork Belly Sisig was good, had chunks of pork belly meat with crispy skin. I enjoyed that it was different from the ears & cheeks sisig. The dish is quite tart already so don't add too much lemon to it. The Kare Kare was alright, I've had better. There were not enough pieces of oxtail or ingredients in there, mostly broth. The Chicken Adobo was sweet and hearty.

Sunday H.

Yelp
To start, this is my very first time trying any type of Filipino food and I was very excited. We got pork lumpia, kare kare, and lechon kawali. As for drinks, we got the coconut chiller and melon chiller. The wait wasn't long or anything. Melon chiller was okay, it was not as sweet as I would have enjoyed it, but it was refreshing and there were pieces of melon inside. Coconut chiller was delicious, perfect amount of sweetness. Pork lumpia 10/10, delicious, crispy, and the sauce with it was good. They were kinda small to my surprise, but then again I do not know how big they are supposed to be. Kare kare and lechon kawali with garlic rice was amazing! 10/10 We also got halo-halo. A not too sweet dessert, however it was hard deciding between the 4 different desserts as they all looked good. One thing I absolutely LOVED about the waitress was that she had asked if it was our first time eating any of the items. Thank god she did because we would have had no idea for certain things. Would definitely come here again!

Amanda W.

Yelp
This is a very home feel space and service. You feel like you're dining at a filipino home in my opinion. The decors on the wall are very cultural and cute. Inside is spacious and the music choice is good background. Shrimp appetizer is crunchy and good compliment w the sauce, chicken taco is on the dry side. The main foods are good, soup is tamarind tangy and we got it spicy, would come back to try more appetizers. Very filling portions on all the food items. Halo Halo is very good.

Miguel A B.

Yelp
Amazing, simply amazing. Quality filipino food, to satisfy your hunger on a hard day of work

Hafsa B.

Yelp
The food was so delicious especially the chicken lumpias!! they give you ten pieces for $9.50 but they're super small so i recommend getting two orders. The rice noodles were so creamy and i loved the flavor the green onions added to them! My absolute favorite was the adobo chickennnn!!!! it was so tasty and the stew was just incredible i definitely recommend getting adobo chicken and mixing it with the white rice! totally worth it. all of this cost us 32 smth dollars but unfortunately with tax it was 35 smth dollars! You won't regret spending ur money though so check it outtt

William Z.

Yelp
Food is overpriced. Small portions too. Many foods are not clear with no names and no pictures. Service is good though

Marlie H.

Yelp
Came here for the second time. Service was amazing like always, food is tasty but very salty.

George S.

Yelp
I haven't had Filipino food in several years. The lumpia was as good as I remember. Light and crispy shell, and soft and tasty in the middle.

Ada W.

Yelp
Good Filipino food at a decent price! Everything we tried had a unique flavor! I don't eat Filipino food often so I don't have much experience as to how it compares to other places. But I really enjoyed dining here. Restaurant also has a mini parking lot for like 2 cars. Space was pretty spacious. Sisig tacos-good. Lots of meat. Tastes better with hot sauce. Kare Kare-peanut buttery goodness Sisig baboy- crispy pork belly. Pretty good as well. Love the fatty parts. Garlic rice was so aromatic and delicious as well. Eaten together with the Kare Kare sauce, it was greatttt. I tried their melon drink. It was a bit too sweet for my tastes.

Ange C.

Yelp
I've been here a number of times and I'm so glad there's a nice sit down Filipino restaurant on Staten Island! Brunch Service Lumpia: it is a must have appetizer- good crunch and flavor to the egg rolls! Sinigang Baka: boiled beef stew with tamarind- nice sourness, very delicious! Bangsilog- milkfish with garlic rice and two fried eggs, and pickled veggies. Such a yummy breakfast! Dinner Service Kare-kare: peanut sauce was on point, thick and flavorful. Pork BBQ- 2 skewers of bbq, good price point of $8 Chicharon bulaklak was a great starter, crunchy

Guy F.

Yelp
Food is fantastic, ordered the ukoy, chicken inasal. And pork sisig. Super Sarrap . The service is great.. beautiful ladies with a warm and great smile. Very helpful and attentive. Ambiance is modern, clean and comfortable. I'm loving this place, 5*s

Angie M.

Yelp
Love their lumpia. Kare Kare, fried fish and more ! The staff is very accommodating and hospitable. Love eating here. Cozy ambience.

Anton T.

Yelp
Gave me a bad case of you know what. Soup meat tasted rank, and sour...I thought it was a sour tasting soup but as it cooled down it got worse and I threw most of it away. I then got sick and sure enough. I'm still having digestive issues. Their BBQ pork kebab was not tender at all. Last time I eat here.

Robyn T.

Yelp
Great local restaurant they just need better promoting to get the word out because I often forget it's there otherwise I would order more because the food is super tasty

joanna m.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood restaurant at staten island. We quickly had lunch, sisig tacos was very tasty . Serice is fast and they are friendly. Will highly recommend if you drop by at staten island

May M.

Yelp
I love Phil-Am Kusina. Everytime I have to go to Staten Island, I always eat here! Tasty Filipino food done right! A few of my favorites is the spring roll for appetizer, palabok for my main dish and the turon with ice cream for dessert. Crunchy, tasty, sweet all in one place. You won't be disappointed!

Priscillia L.

Yelp
Friends recommended this Filipino restaurant, food is great and very nice servers. Me and my family enjoyed the food, the garlic rice surprised us, will go back and try other dishes for sure

Michelle W.

Yelp
Just go!!!!! You need to!!!!!! GET THE CALAMANSI JUICE. Their pork lumpia (comes with sweet chili sauce), pork bbq with rice and bangsilog (milkfish) are some of my favorites. Everything is so aromatic and flavorful. Their service is also amazing!

Dominik D.

Yelp
I was pretty happy with my Adobo chicken, and with the price as well. The Restaurant is cool because it was clearly a two story house that was converted into a one floor restaurant.

Gabe S.

Yelp
Very tasty and authentic. Their chicken ginger soup is on point. Their ribs are awesome too. Cool friendly atmosphere.

Y S.

Yelp
When we're in the area, we'll often stop in for good Filipino food. Fairly price, pretty good portions, and the service has gotten better over the years. We enjoyed a variety of food from unit fritters to palabok to Pinot Ribs to various other yummy entrees! We finished our meal off with pandas and halo halo - can't go wrong with that! If you haven't been here, give it a try, you won't be disappointed

Oge O.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. I used Uber-eats to order late night on a Sunday evening and was not disappointed. The ribs fell off the bone, garlic rice rice ws worth the up charge, adobo was a little salty for my taste but was still really good. The pork egg rolls were amazing and the curry oxtail ws fantastic. A bit pricy for only having 2 small oxtail pieces in it but maybe I just got unlucky. Anyway the food here is great. I would order again.

Damen L.

Yelp
Didn't think I would be able to find a Filipino restaurant on the island but this place was pretty decent. We ate here then went across the street to pick up some frozen lumpia

Sona J.

Yelp
I'm so glad this place exists. The service is quick and warm and friendly. The food is well priced and delicious. I've had the humba, chicken adobo, fried pork belly in coconut shrimp sauce, the pork lumpia, grilled chicken and turon with ube ice cream (). Everything Ive tried was fresh and flavorful. The meat falls off the bone. There are a few parking spots in front of the restaurant, but street parking is probably easier. They don't have a full bar, but they do serve Filipino beer, local Flagship beer, and a small selection of wines. Their take-out is packed neatly so it will get to its destination in one piece. Sure beats cooking on a snowy night. Get the garlic rice, you will not regret it!

Samantha P.

Yelp
Great food! This is the first time I've tried Philippine cuisine and I really enjoy it. The service is a bit slow but everything else is great. The waiters are extremely friendly and they treat you like family.

Devon O.

Yelp
I have never felt part of the filipino culinary culture until I went here. The food is so different and familiar at once, you will have your mind blown completely treating yourself to something that I am sure is brand new to you. Believe me, the staff are more than happy to serve and walk you through this experience. We started with lumpia, because you have to, and this was my extent of knowledge as far as their food. Between chicken and pork, the pork is just more flavorful and better texture wise. Chicken was a very very close second, and very delicious also. We had also tried ribs that were rich and perfectly cooked. I never expected to have ribs here or for them to be pitmaster good. I had gone with the sigsig baboy, pork belly sizzling plate. When my waiter dropped an egg in, I wasn't ready to start mixing it the way I had to. This is something I have never seen nor done before, but again just went with the flow and did what was suggested. Yes, this is a raw egg cracked over your plate of pork. What happens is genius. Not only does it cook inside of that steaming hot pork but it also gives it this super tangy yet creamy bite against the seared pork belly. The only issue I had with this dish at all was that the meat to fat ratio was a bit off, and in the end there was a lot of fat that I had left. The garlic rice however is the star of the whole meal. Unbelievable how delicious something as simple as rice and garlic can be, but it was a powerful punch alone and with whatever you tried it with. Hope to return and try some more things out!

Paola A.

Yelp
We love their Sisig ang Halo Halo. Very clean place and they do have a sink for hand washing. They are following the protocol for indoor dining. The staff are welcoming and very polite. Truly reflects Filipino hospitality. High ceiling and they have natural lighting. We recommend this place. We will come back again

Niluka U.

Yelp
They had the best pork I've ever eaten! It was cooked perfectly. The skin was crunchy, there was a layer of fat underneath and the meat was nice and juicy. The pork dish I had was the crispy pata. I also got a beef stew with bell peppers and olives that was very tasty and it went well with the garlic rice.

Frankie G.

Yelp
Very good food, drove from Brooklyn to Staten Island for dinner. Much better than the typical Philippino restaurants in Queens by far. Frankie

Renee C.

Yelp
It does not look interesting outside, but inside they have fun lights with clean tables and nice settings. This was back in January and I don't remember what I had other than it was filling, delicious, savory, AMAZING price for New York. The staff made the experience memorable. It was getting late, I was freezing cold, very lost, alone, and my phone was dead. Only a few customers at that time, and they were more than happy to lend me a charger, make friendly small talk, and made me hot tea. Staff who care about their customers like that are rare. If I go back to Staten Island, this is a must-stop restaurant.

Ann Celeste M.

Yelp
Service? Excellent. Food came out quickly, and it was definitely worth the wait. This was quite possibly the best kare-kare I've ever eaten. It wasn't too crowded, and the ambiance wasn't overwhelming. I felt relaxed and at home here. Would recommend!

Mario R.

Yelp
This is the best Filipino food I have had. I have been to the Philippines and also have eaten at many Filipino restaurants in LA where there's a large Filipino community. The quality of the food is excellent and the prices are more than reasonable.

Vivian A.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and the restaurant was pretty empty. My group of 3 all ordered the brunch dishes ($8-$8.50) I ordered the Tocilog (pork shoulder)- it was soooo tender and tasted as if it was glazed with honey. I loved it My boyfriend got the Wingsilog (adobo chicken wings) which were also juicy and flavorful. Lastly, my friend ordered the Tapsilog (marinated beef) in which the waitress commented "good choice" when we ordered. However, we didn't like it, perhaps it's an acquired taste (?), but it was sooo sour. As if it was just marinated with vinegar. All the brunches came with two beautifully cooked sunny side eggs, pickled vegetables and garlic rice (could be more garlicky) We also ordered the Pork Lumpia ($8) and the Pork Sisig ($12). The. Pork. Sisig. Yum. Crispy pieces of meat, in a hot sizzling plate- the best thing ever. We ordered the Halo Halo ($6.50) which had condensed milk, shaved ice, various jellies, red bean, chickpeas, tapioca pearls, a scoop of ube ice cream and toasted rice crispies. So big and the perfect end to a great meal, could easily be shared amongst 3-4 people. Overall, the waiters were extremely attentive, very friendly and the food was amazing. Will frequently visit!!

Christina D.

Yelp
I'm so happy to find delicious Filipino food in Staten Island in a very comfortable and casual setting! My sister and I came here one night for dinner and we left with a very full belly full of Sisig Tacos, Beef Kaldereta, and Sisig Bangus (sizzling fried monkfish). Our waiter was very nice and gave us some great recommendations. I thought the star of the night was the beef kaldereta, I cannot recommend it enough. It smelled so fragrant, the meat was soft and braised, and the sauce was buttery and delicious. Try ordering it spicy for even more flavor and get it with a side of garlic rice. I look forward to going back and trying even more dishes!

Irish M.

Yelp
It was worth going in here xD took me about an hour to get there and gladly it wasn't pack at all :D I had chicken sisig Tacos, gulaman, Lechon kawali & Turon A la mode All for me I haven't had filipino food probably decades ago.. I wanted every dish I know from he Menu. Only my complaint was the Turon A la mode didn't looked like the picture On their menu :(( No caramel sauce?! No cherry on top :( And it wasn't the food as I expected to be?! Isn't Turon fried banana inside? It was like a paste of banana and sumthn else. Their main menu was amazing Chicken sisig was really delish And as well as the lechon kawali yumm! Gulaman was good too as what I remembered. idk when will I crave for filipino food, also place is really nice and clean. definitely would recommend this place

Jonathan S.

Yelp
I've lived in the area over five years and I've always walked past this place. I was curious so I finally gave it a try. I ordered: Camaron rebosado $9 - the batter was just right and the shrimp was so good. Sisig tacos $8 - these looked like little bowls with meat heaven inside. Once you take a bite the soupy goodness pours out Longsilog $8 - the garlic time is super flavorful. I wish there was at least one more sausages with this dish but the sausage was sweet a delicious. This comes with sliced dikon radish which is a good balance to the meal Wingsilog $8 - garlic rice was amazing. The wings are drowned in a sauce that is full of flavor. Almost reminds me of BBQ wings Mango juice $2.50 - refreshing and you can taste real mango Sago gulaman $3.50 - almost like a fruit punch boba. So good! Turon a la mode $6 - definitely a highlight. Fried pastry with bananas inside an a scoop or ube ice cream. I'm returning to this place for sure!

Cassie C.

Yelp
The place has a very homey vibe and good customer service. I ordered the sisig pork belly and my friend ordered the Kare kare. The sisig was crispy, fatty and indulgent. Kare Kare was rich, coconutty and had a peanut flavor as well. The garlic rice is worth trying, it's aromatic and adds more to the overall dish! It's $1 extra. For the brunch menu, they already include garlic rice. The adobo wings are great and it is fairly priced. Will come back again :)

Joey M.

Yelp
BOODLE FIGHT! Definitely a unique dining experience! My Filipino colleague set up this dinner arrangement and it was awesome! What is a Boodle fight you may ask (on the menu as KAMAYAN STYLE): boodle: is a very large collection of food that comes on banana leaves (see pics). In a boodle arrangement, diners eat with their fingers. fight: this type of meal has its roots in the Philippine military's style of eating in which soldiers, regardless of rank or position, dine together on food spread out on banana leaves. Great food, good service and lots of fun! If you're looking for a fun new dining experience I highly recommend it! Check their website for daters and times :)

Tina W.

Yelp
The lady here is very nice. I came here and ordered take out. She recommended the popular dishes they serve there and we ordered all of her recommendations. The portions were kinda small but at the same time, their prices aren't super expensive. We had the Shanghai lumpia, which is the spring rolls with pork or chicken. It's consistent with the other Filipino places I've tried. We also had the tilapia with coconut sauce, chicken tacos, squid sizzling plate, chicken inasal, braised beef and the egg and rice noodle. My favorite was definitely the chicken tacos. The shell was crisped to perfection and the filling was seasoned well. Will definitely come back.

Elsie W.

Yelp
The only Filipino restaurant in Staten Island! They're located across from their grocery store, Phil-Am Foods. We had shanghai lumpia with pork, pork belly sisig, grilled fish... the fish was the best!! Perfectly seasoned and grilled. Get their drinks too! Sago gulaman, melon chiller, avocado shake!

Sarah B.

Yelp
Garlic rice was superb!! The pork on stick is perfect portion. The prices are worth it it's affordable. My plate was $10. Location is close to Bay Street.

Becky L.

Yelp
If you are craving filipino food for a decent price, this local spot will satisfy you. There is a good selection to chose from and the protions are fairly big. Me and my friends arrived on a Sunday night and there was only a few parties. We ordered the lumpia to share, kare kare, miki bihon, crispy bicol, and chicken inasal. The lumpia came out hot and crunchy. The kare kare was a bit bland and some pieces of bok choy were bitter, but the meat was tender. The miki bihon is a mix of egg noodle and rice noodles. The chicken inasal was also a bit bland. The crispy bicol was my favorite, it was flavorful and tender. The staff was friendly and worked quick. The place was clean and had a homey feel. Overall, most of the dishes were on a bland side but I suggest the crispy bicol!

Jim B.

Yelp
Who would have thunk it? Philippino food on Easter. The food is different, and I would make sure you converse with your host if you aren't familiar with the cuisine. Great decor, and I dig the sounds of the 70's they had playing in the back ground. Glad I stopped here for an enjoyable dining experience.

Tanya N.

Yelp
Great food but to expensive and very small portions. I was happy with the taste but sad at the portions for the price.
