Yelp
I'm trying to understand what kind of business you guys are running here? My last few experiences here have been absolutely awful, but tonight really takes the cake.
First of all, every single online page (Google, Yelp, Trip Advisor) has your hours as closing at 9 pm. Your door says 9 pm. I had been calling well before 8 pm, multiple times, & my friend tried to call as well, but got absolutely no answer for like 20 minutes of trying. Now, as a reader, you may ask 'why would you keep calling'? Well, the answer is, because I knew I was being ignored. 7:30 pm is well before 9 pm, at least it seems like it to me, so I decided to drive over there and see what was going on. I walked in at about 8:10 pm to an open door & lights on, & was told that the place closed for the night, and that it closes at 8pm now. Ok, well that is all fine and good, I can accept that, *except, I called at 7:30pm, plenty of time before the 'new closing hours'. I also live close too, so there's no reason I couldn't have been in before 8, & that would've been 3 double meat & cheese pepper cheese steaks, like $60 in missed business. I asked the guy who was there last night (August 11, 2021) if the phone worked, & he gave me this smug look, & said "I was probably taking out the garbage." Ok guy, I know when I'm being lied to; No one takes the trash out for that long. That was planned. I called for 20 minutes & knew straight up that you didn't want to answer, based on what time it was. Because guess what? ...If you just don't answer calls, you really don't have to work. I have to wonder, does the owner think is this acceptable behavior?
Secondly, Im not sure exactly how new your iPad system for paying is, but it is only a few years old, & I feel like the quality of my sandwiches has entirely to do with how much I tip on the the iPad when I pay with my card. *Or* what kind of mood the cook is in that day. Sorta two negatives working against you from the beginning. I've tested this theory and I definitely get better sandwiches after I tip 30%. I honestly don't want to pay & tip until my sandwiches are done, because I never know what I may be getting. I even mentioned these shenanigans to my mother tonight, (because she likes cheese steaks too), & she told me she definitely has had this experience as well sometimes. In her exact words, "Yeah, I always feel like I'm being a burden to the employees when I'm in there." I was so astonished to hear her say this, that I decided to come write this review. Even asking for a beer while I wait, seems to be a chore.
I have no doubt people will come for cheese steaks, & I'll even say they can be tasty on some days, but as a customer, just know, it's a roll of the dice what you get day by day. You heard it right here, & I encourage readers to think of this review if you have a similar experience. It's definitely a roll of the dice what mood your cook might be in as well, & it doesn't feel like a welcoming place. It's literally like the employees have zero desire to be there, & it seems that they would just prefer it would be slow, so they can get their hourly wages, & get through he day. No consistency, smug attitudes, terrible customer service, & it really makes me sad, because I used to enjoy coming here. If you do decide to eat here, & *if you want decent food*, you should come at an off hour, in the middle of the day, on a week day, & bring cash, so they don't purposely give you mediocre sandwiches for not tipping their pre-programmed 30%. I'm extremely disappointed how my family & I have been treated here, & I empathize with anyone who's had a similar experience.
Signed, a local who's been eating here for 10+ years.
