The Best Philly Cheesesteaks In Atlanta

"Philly G's simple blue, red, and white signage doesn’t exactly stand out amidst the clutter of Chattahoochee Food Works. But the strong smell of ribeye sizzling on the grill and the scene of happy people taking huge bites of cheesesteaks at the counter will lure you over. Choose from three protein options (ribeye, chicken, or salmon), all served on Amoroso rolls with onions, american cheese, provolone, Cheez Whiz, and mayo. We prefer the classic because the ribeye meat stays moist. And finish off your Philly experience with a cup of three-flavor italian water ice." - juli horsford

Philly G Steaks - Review - Upper Westside - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Atlanta doesn't have many places that make cheesesteaks with Cheez Whiz, but Philly G is one of them, and that's why it's a must-hit in the Chattahoochee Food Works hall. But the strong smell of ribeye sizzling on the grill and the scene of happy people taking huge bites of cheesesteaks at the counter will lure you over. The Best Beer Places To Impress Out-Of-Towners

"Everyone will find something to do at this 80-acre property on the Upper Westside. Start with a cold one from the 50-barrel Dr. Scofflaw brewery—they brew a sh!tload of popular IPAs, plus great stouts, sours, and adult slushies—and then it’s all retail, entertainment, and restaurants from there. There is also a full bar in The Works’ expansive food hall, which sells everything from Cubans to crab fries. The newest addition to the complex—the futuristic Your Third Spot—is a 26K-square-foot, multilevel dining, gaming, and beer garden combo that makes Dave and Busters look like bingo night at a senior home. Google
Atlanta is not known for having authentic Philly cheese steaks at all. But Philly G Steaks does it all to perfection, the bread isn’t stiff and cold like other places who claim to sell Philly cheesesteaks, the bread is lightly toasted so it’s crispy on the outside and pillow soft on the inside even after it cools down. The meat, cheese, veggies are all seasoned to perfection. Definitely enough to eat half and save the rest for later

Google
They got me! I should of known when I picked up my food and the bag was light there were gonna be problems…I haven’t eaten yet so I’m not critiquing the taste of the chicken phillys but don’t let the ‘gram and reviews fool ya. These sandwiches ain’t packing like I expected

Desean James

Google
I’m from Philly and let me tell you this is the best cheesesteak I had in the south. Especially being that they sell Jerk Turkey cheesesteaks, I was not expecting it to be this good! Must try

Sharon Johnston

Google
Wow!! Tastes like South Philly! Perfect bun, cheese and meat. They even have wooder ice 😁👍🏼

Google
OMG! I was not expecting this philly to be so freaaaaaaking great! Philly steak with provolone, the perfect amount of jalapeños and banana peppers, it was juicy, cheesy and I dont know how but the bun was soft and toasted at the same time. Philly G Steaks' wife gave an excellent suggestion for washing this all down with the frozen cocktail "painkiller" from the Center Bar and she was absolutely correct in her suggestion. It was great. Although, not pictured b/c it was already consumed, the frozen Margherita sangria from Taqueria La Luz will get you there within minutes and it tastes great. Belén de La Cruz had the best cheesy beef empanada's in Atlanta. We will be returning soon.

Google
Stood there until the guy sitting down at another booth got up and came over. He was cool and apologized. Food was completely messed UP! Like did the cook even READ the ticket? This location is closer but I'll try the original location which I heard was better anyway. I'm cool on this location though.

I visited this black owned establishment on Monday, September 12, 2022. It is located in the Municipal Market on Auburn Avenue. They do have parking right behind the Municipal Market. They do have set rates for specific time frames based on how long you will be parked. I entered the Municipal Market and it was clean, historic, and well-maintained. It has a variety of shops including: meat markets, a grocery store, a coffee shop, and various other types of cuisine eateries. The other types of cuisine include: Vietnamese, South African pies, Mexican, and Soul Food. I decided to try the Philly G Steak cheesesteak food stall. I have tried the location at the Chattahoochee Food Works. Once I got to the counter, there was a very nice lady who took my order. The Philly cheesesteak stall here was clean, modern, and bright. They also have a 100 A health score, which is excellent. Especially since this location has been open much longer than the Chattahoochee Food Works location. I also saw the owner come in with food supplies. I have seen the owner several times as well at the other location. I love that the owner is very hands on and directly involved with the day to day business of running two locations. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak with all of the fixings including: Onions, Provolone cheese, and Bell peppers. The meal also comes with your choice of chips and a drink. I chose Doritos and a Sprite. They also have slices of cake for sale. The cake looked really fresh and delicious. I decided to purchase a slice of cake for $4. It appeared to be yellow cake with white icing and gold edible ornaments on top. It didn’t take long for my order to come out and when I received my order, I sat in one of the various dining areas to enjoy my meal. Just like at the other location, the meal was quite tasty. The Philly cheesesteak was delicious, savory, and well seasoned. The sandwich had an ample amount of meat that complemented it so well with the melted cheese, peppers, and seasonings. This Philly cheesesteak stand is just as great as the newer location. I also like that their combination meals do include chips and a drink, so you don’t have to pay extra for that. They also give you a great size sandwich, which if you’re not that hungry is enough for two people. Because I was quite hungry this day, I had no issue putting away this whole sandwich by myself. I love that between the two locations there is steady consistency. This consistency is in the quality of food ingredients and taste of the food. At the other location, they do sell Philly water ice. I don’t believe they sell the water ice at the Auburn Avenue location. I did taste the cake that I purchased and it was moist with a sponge like consistency. It wasn’t my most favorite cake that I’ve had, but it was just decent. The icing was soft and not overly sweet. Also the gold ornaments on top of the icing were edible, because I did taste them. I wouldn’t not recommend the cake. I would definitely say if you don’t like very spongy cake, then don’t purchase it. I’m used to yellow cake being more concise and less spongy. I didn’t particularly care for the consistency. However, Philly G steaks does not make this cake. They have a lady bring cakes and they sell them on her behalf. I did not take a star off, because this is not a direct product that they make although they sell it. I think it’s quite smart for Philly G to come down to Atlanta and have Philly cheesesteak businesses. There’s not a huge market for it in the metro Atlanta area. Keep in mind that you can validate your parking ticket when you’re done at the Municipal Market. You do get an hour of free parking. I didn’t have to pay for parking because I stayed less than an hour. If you do stay longer than an hour, you just have to pay the difference after your free hour of parking. They have the best Philly cheesesteaks! Not only does each location have great reviews, but also great health scores. I would highly recommend everyone in Atlanta try Philly G steaks. Whether it be at the Howell Mill or the Auburn Avenue location.

Google
Me and my nine-year-old shared the salmon cheesesteak and it was so good. He wanted another one.! he also enjoyed the grape flavored water ice. We will be back for sure.!

Yelp
Updating my review because they've made great improvements. They've expanded the menu and also chips now come with a sandwich, making it a better deal than it was. I really like a lot of their options. The customer Service here is also pretty good most of the time. There are times when it gets a bit busy and it takes a min for someone to get to you, but it's not a big deal. I like when a business sees a weak point and then makes improvement. Good job.
google avatar

Yelp
First time here, food was fresh, bread was soft, service was excellent. Definitely going back.
google avatar

Yelp
My Philly is always good, bread always soft. My chicken is always seasoned well. My fav place to come at the works..
google avatar

Yelp
I'm finally leaving a review after my second trip here. The first time I came I got the beef Philly cheesesteak with wiz, cherry peppers, mushrooms, and onions. It was soooo good then so this time around I got the salmon Philly and it didn't leave me disappointed either. I hate they were out of the cheese wiz but I did get it with mayo, mushrooms, hot cherry peppers, and provolone cheese. My other friend got the jerk turkey Philly which she said it was DEE-LICIOUS!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
This place is the jawn! Being from Philly, I'm a cheesesteak snob. A friend told me about this place, so I went. OMG is it a taste of home! I ordered a wiz with, legit scarfed it down in 4 seconds. It was bangin! Owner was super nice, along with the cashier. Service was great. Will DEFINITELY return!

Yelp
This is my third or fourth time hitting up this spot. Each time I'm hit with the best tasting Philly and I'm never going home regretting it. I've gone to "Philly Steak Spot" and while theirs was certainly bigger, it just didn't hit the flavor. This place is not too salty, you have a choice of cheese. American, Provolone and Wiz. I go with the Provolone and Wiz with my order and just a little bit of mayo. I'm telling you guys....the flavor is here. It's so good I haven't been able to try the Salmon Jawn which I'm ashamed. I bet anything that's wonderful. The people that work here are great too. They smile, they pay attention to the order. If you get a come, they will hold onto the drink till you're ready to get the maximum cool. One guy actually put it in the freezer for me while I waited for my cheesesteak. If you guys haven't tried this spot out, do it! The only thing I would change is offer an XL option. I'd easily pay $3-5 more if I could get this on a 12". It's silly but I'm a big guy, and those three to four extra bites matter. Good luck!

Yelp
Amazing phillys!! High quality meat, good veggie and cheese options to add on. I think Woodys is a better cheesesteak in flavor and price. G's is 1 of the best places to eat at the works and I would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Brooke G.

Yelp
Wait was really long (like more than 20 min) for one item and this is pretty typical. But food is good if your not in a hurry
google avatar

Joshua M.

Yelp
The man who took my order 03/06/2025 wasn't friendly at all. My friend and I asked for recommendations Will basically turned around at pointed to the sign. It was borderline rude honestly. The cheesesteak was great! Not sure if I'd be back. I would probably come back if he's not there.
google avatar

Yelp
TLDR: RUN and get the Philly cheesesteak with American cheese, peppers, and mayo. Wow this was so amazing! 10/10 - a bit pricey though... $17 for one but well worth it! First of all the service was amazing. The cashier was patient and helped us pick the best toppings, the chef Raheem was so kind and realized her forgot to add my side of banana peppers so he ran and brought it to me! Literally one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. I would give 6 stars if I could! Inside The Works is super vibey as well... so many nice places to seat and eat. The ambiance was amazing.

Donald R.

Yelp
Improper food safety guidelines followed. Needs to understand how to properly prep food.
google avatar

Enna J.

Yelp
Went to the Chattahoochee Food Works location. Excellent service. Got the Salmon Philly and it was delicious. Fully packed with salmon and the fixings. Definitely would recommend.
google avatar

Clay F.

Yelp
Cheesesteak with onions and whiz. So good. Bread is amazing. Sandwich was perfect. They gave us a sample of Philly ice too. Super friendly and courteous.
google avatar

Amber J.

Yelp
I got their new jerk turkey cheese steak and it was phenomenal. I only wish they hadn't ran out of cheez wiz by the time I got there. Will definitely be back and I hope the jerk turkey is here to stay.
google avatar

Marie J.

Yelp
The Philly steak was off the chain. Authentic bread and toppings. Large enough to split but if you an appetite, it will fill you. Order at the register and sit at the counter to eat. Friendly staff and the market was reminiscent of the famous Philly market. Wasn't too busy so we got our sandwiches in a reasonable amount of time. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Philly G Steak is located within The Works. The Works Food Hall has so many food options to choose from. Plenty of parking. The first 2 hours are free. You need to use Parkmobile even though it is free to avoid a ticket. The service was good at Philly G. You only have 2 options steak or chicken cheesesteak, although there was a sign for salmon. I heard the salmon was pretty good. You get a choice of the following toppings: Cheese - American, provolone, or Cheese Whiz Mushrooms Onions Peppers Mayo You get as many toppings as you want. The cheesesteak is $15.99 made with ribeye. The chicken was $13.99, I believe. There are no sides. They do sell Philadelphia Water Ice. If you know, then you know. The cheesesteak was a nice size. You get a full sandwich, no half option. It was wrapped in foil and then paper. There were plenty of cheese, mushrooms, and onions on mine. They accidentally put the mayo I requested on my son's sandwich and not mine. He does not like mayo. He ate part of the sandwich. We were already gone, so there was no turning back. Not bad for Philly cheesesteak. I would come again since not that far away.
google avatar

Janeen H.

Yelp
Best cheesesteak in Atlanta. I get provolone lettuce, tomato, onions, and mushrooms and it never disappoints!

Yelp
Visit 1/9/23 right before the College Football National Championship watch party at Dr. Scofflaw's for the UGA Alumni watch party. I used to always get Philly chicken and Philly steak cheesesteaks from the dining halls in Athens while a student at UGA, and so it was only fitting I that I ate one before the Georgia domination. I was skeptical about trying this, but I must say this was the absolute best cheesesteak that I have ever had in my life! You must visit the works and hit this place up. I was tempted to order two more, but I'm on a strict diet and fitness routine, however it was tormenting not eating more of it! The employees told me it would be the best and they were right! I plan on going back ASAP!!! Check the pics and I wish they would allow videos.

John H.

Yelp
I revisited Philly G last night and I'm happy to say nothing has changed! My cheese steak was outstanding yet again! Every thing tasted fresh and hot! BEST CHEESE STEAK IN ATLANTA!!
google avatar

Alexis H.

Yelp
Philly G has the best cheesesteaks in Atlanta, no debate! I'm a big fan of places that know their speciality and focus on strictly that. Here, you have two options : Philly Cheesesteak (100% Ribeye) or Philly Chicken Cheesesteak. DASSIT. (Well, actually they also sell Philly Water Ice but that's different lol). Now listen closely, follow what I'm about to say precisely and you won't go wrong: "I'd like to order the #1 with AMERICAN cheese (it's white American btw), fried onions (grilled), peppers, mushrooms, and mayo." DE-LI-CIOUS! Truly, it's perfection. DO NOT ORDER CHEEZ WHIZ and then come on here and say the cheesesteak wasn't good. It wasn't good because you had cheez whiz and I'm trying to save you from that pain in advance. You also get a small bag of chips with your order.
google avatar

Siobhan L.

Yelp
Overall really yummy!! The meat was good quality! I wouldn't mind some more seasoning but maybe I'm just a salt lover. Reheated well, the price is a little high but this is a food hall in ATL so y'know!! Only major downside is they DO NOT have French fries!!! The ones pictured are from the Greek restaurant in the same hall. I'd def recommend!!
google avatar

Tionne M.

Yelp
This is actually one of my favorite cheesesteaks in Atlanta. Yes it's pricey, but the service is always A1, food is fresh, and even if I can't finish a whole cheesesteak it's still delish the next day. It's conveniently located near an amazing cookie stall, so I normally just head over there while I'm waiting for my food. I also love the family feel the employees have with each other and with the customers. I always feel so welcome there.
google avatar

Carmen H.

Yelp
I visited Philly G Steaks on yesterday. I ordered via their website and picked up at the restaurant. I did realize there is a slight upcharge for the chicken cheesesteak when you order online ($15.99) vs. $13.99 at the restaurant, but not huge deal. When I arrived, there was still a little wait, but rightfully so because they were very busy. The cashier was helpful and got me my order as soon as it was ready. I didn't realize the cheesesteak came with chips, but that was a pleasant surprise. The chicken cheesesteak was fulfilling and packed with flavor. I added provolone cheese, fried onions, and peppers to mine and it was really good. I'd definitely visit again in the future.
google avatar

Tina B.

Yelp
Not sure how to really feel but I don't appreciate the hidden fees. I placed my order for pickup and was charged $19xx with tax no tip. I see their prices in house $15.99 b4 tax so I asked the guy is there up charged and I was told it's a $0.50 up charge. I showed him what I was charged and then he said nawl that's them (Grubhub) Spoken with grubhub and basically the cashier lied. CS rep stated that the merchant gives them the prices to add on their platform. He definitely didn't need to lie! C
google avatar

Ambe C.

Yelp
I REALLLLLLYYYY wanted to like this place. I had such high hopes. The philly was super condensed ( small) and not very meaty. It was also super salty and not very flavorful. For someone else, this might be a be a favorite. However, I've had much better cheese steaks in the city
google avatar

Seema Z.

Yelp
This spot is inside CHatahoochee food works court. It's the only cheese steak spot. Options of chicken steak and salmon. We tried chicken and it was pretty good. Greasy, filling and comes with a bag of chips. Reasonably priced when compared to other spots in this food court. Salmon was out. Will try it the next time I'm back

Trish M.

Yelp
Living in Philly for nearly two decades you eat a lot of cheesesteaks.... I've been missing them terribly after moving to Atlanta. Not anymore! Not only was the staff wonderfully inviting and knowledgeable, the food was fantastic. I can't wait to come back for another meal. If you are ever craving an authentic cheesesteak, there is no other spot than here. Hands down.
google avatar

Simone S.

Yelp
Best cheesesteak! Food here consistently good. Adequate amount of meat. You choose the type of cheese you want. Wish they did have usual toppings like lettuce & tomatoes. Also when are you adding fries to the menu? The subs do come with a bag of chips. Subs are cooked to order so there is going to be a short wait but well worth it!
google avatar

Earl S.

Yelp
The food is awesome. This has got to be one of best cheesesteaks I've had. The menu is limited and you'll have to wait a little bit for the food but it is worth it. They good everything to order. It's a popular stand in the Food Works and rightfully so.
google avatar

Yaz E.

Yelp
Came to Philly G Steaks located in Chattahoochee Food Works. You'll know it when you see it because of all the Philly artwork. The guys here run a smooth operation, always polite, and always helpful. Most importantly they make a great Philly. You can customize it to your liking and they have steak, chicken, and salmon to choose from. So, far I've only had the steak because I was starving and assumed that would be the most filling! It was divine! I didn't have my the traditional way, but maybe next time. Bonus points: each philly comes with a bag of chips! So, if you're hungry and in the area and not sure what to eat. Eat a philly from here.
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
First time here and glad to see a pescatarian option! I ordered a salmon jawn (16.99) with provolone and topping and my friend had the same but with ribeye (15.99) . We got them without the cheese whiz. The only vegan option they have is grilled veggies- no impossible, beyond or house made meat. Each steak comes with a bag of chips but no fries or drink. There's open parking but the lot I'd no longer free. You have to register your car and then after 2 hrs, then charge about $5/hr. The parking garage is still free at the moment though. Overall, it wasn't the best salmon cheesesteak I've this was decent and if craving one and was nearby, would go back.
google avatar

Jim D.

Yelp
Found this place while searching for best cheesesteaks in the city. I'm willing to rank it that high however I'm still not convinced it's the best. Upon arrival I found out they sold salmon phillys but they were sold out by the time I arrived. The cheesesteaks are on the smaller side but they're served piping hot.
google avatar

Skip W.

Yelp
My Dad was from Camden, NJ so my childhood summers were spent with family in Philly. Philly G Steaks took me back. These jawns were GREAT!! I'll be back!!
google avatar

D J.

Yelp
Ok so Monica and I stopped in here on Wednesday jan 11 2023 for dinner and we were greeted by Shareef and the fellas. Rock star alert! This place is it! The ribeye Philly with peppers and onions and peppers is a work of art. Food was delicious and ambiance is laid back as you can eat at the bar there or go to common areas with a table and eat. Best Philly cheesesteak in Atlanta hands down! Got a car? Got some money and a healthy appetite go see Shareef and the boys with the Philly jerseys you will not be disappointed...

Chris R.

Yelp
Always a solid cheesesteak. Probably the best I know of around Atlanta. The price is my only negative comment
google avatar

Brianna L.

Yelp
Sandwich was so good, I forgot to take a picture. Had heard good things about Philly Gs previously so decided to try it out. This location is inside of the Chattahoochee Food works building so there is plenty parking and multiple indoor and outdoor seating areas. There are 2 sandwich choices, steak or chicken Phillies and they have a handful of the usual add ons (peppers, mushrooms, choice of cheese). I came during lunch hours and while there did not appear to be a lot of patrons waiting, there's definitely a lunch rush so plan accordingly. Waited about 20 minutes for my food. But it was totally worth it!! Got the steak Philly and was full for the majority of the day! Try it out!
google avatar

Brittany C.

Yelp
Great and personable service. Food was great didn't take long. I tried mango water ice for the first home! I highly recommend. We got two Philly cheesesteaks, good portions and great taste. We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Christina D.

Yelp
Philly G's has truly mastered the taste of a Philly cheesesteak in Atlanta, from Dave's to Woody's, Philly G's is the best! The search for an authentic tasting cheesesteak in Atlanta is definitely a task so THANK YOU! The service is always friendly and personable and I truly enjoy sitting right at the booth eating. While the Works continues to grow, I'm glad this location is there and I look forward to more locations opening soon because bayyybeeee, THIS IS IT! and they added salmon! SHHEESSSHHH. Go already!! They keep the ingredients flavorful and simple and whenever I have a taste for a cheesesteak, I know exactly where to go!
google avatar

He Said She Said ..

Yelp
He Said: I can't add to this review since I was trying other foods that were available. She Said: His co-worker (a local) recommended this option at The Works, and I'm not one to pass on a cheesesteak if it's recommended by a trusted individual. Philly G seems to take their task of making a proper cheesesteak seriously, and they deliver with a nice chopped ribeye on the perfect type of bun. It's made to order as you watch and as your bun toasts, and the result tastes like a trip north. Potty Points: I didn't use the bathroom facilities here.

Denzel H.

Yelp
The guy taking my order at the front was so rude and unwelcoming I almost said "never mind" to placing my order. No idea what his issue was but it left a really bad taste in my mouth before I ever got my food, smh. Not a good first experience
google avatar

Marcus P.

Yelp
Hands down the best authentic Philadelphia Philly I've eaten in Atlanta! From using 100 percent ribeye steaks to having the cheese wiz.....what can i say besides this is the spot for the real deal!
google avatar

Victor N.

Yelp
Some of the best in Atlanta! I waited until after our 3rd visit to write this review. Your choices here are the steak philly, chicken philly, and the salmon jawn ! I've had all 3 and the steak philly is the winner by far. I've only found one other place in Atlanta that makes great cheesesteak but this one is much more accessible than driving all the way to Stone Mountain. The young men who work there are always courteous and helpful so we stay to eat in often to enjoy the hot cheesy goodness.
google avatar

Yolanda W.

Yelp
Best chicken cheese sandwich. Sold by the whole. Like mines with extra mayo, onions, hots! Add mushrooms

Sue H.

Yelp
if you are in Atlanta, you should definitely tire this spot , it's gooooood. I will definitely come here over with my family over and over again.

Yelp
I visited the works and decided to try Philly G Steaks this go-round. The line wasn't long, so I placed my order of a regular cheesesteak with peppers, onions, cheese, and mayo with a side of chips, and waited at the bar until it was ready, which didn't take long. I got home and opened my sandwich and was pleasantly surprised at the size of the sandwich and how much meat was inside. I will say the taste was lacking a bit; it wasn't as seasoned as I expected, but it was pretty solid once I added some salt and pepper from home. I probably won't revisit; if I do, it'll be way down the line, but glad I gave it a try.

Yelp
First time ordering a cheesesteak here. Got it fully loaded. It was tender and juicy. The toppings were fresh. The sandwich was anything but dry. A salad sandwich!

Yelp
Finally, in metro Atlanta, an authentic Philly steak sandwich. They have Cheezwiz folks! I had cherry peppers, onions, and mushrooms. The sandwich was excellent. I highly recommend them.

Yelp
Pros Best Philly inside of Atlanta. Great bread, meat and cheese. Easy. Can't go wrong here. Staff is great, all the Philly without the Phuck you experience. Great other options around too post meal Cons Go during the week, weekend parking sucks, but it's free, makes sense to offset price a bit $17 for a sandwich is pricey.

Yelp
Sandwiches are really big. Lots of meat. We got a cheesesteak with provolone, and it was yummy, bread was soft, cheese was gooey...what more can you ask for? Don't hesitate to stop by.
