Philomena’s Review - Queens - New York - The Infatuation

"If sitting at a table in the street and eating a crunchy square slice or a chewy Neapolitan pie is what you seek, head to Philomena’s. This Sunnyside pizza place is known for its dough, which undergoes an intimidating three-day fermentation process. If you want to try it for yourself, there are three small tables surrounded by a plant-filled patio barricade right in front of the shop, and you can use them from 4 to 9pm daily." - Nikko Duren

Such a great cocktail bar. Cocktails are so cute, taste great, and with quality liquor that does not give you a hangover the next day. I hosted my birthday party as a private event here and it was a 10/10, interior is very nice, owner is super friendly and accommodating, and like I mentioned drinks were great!!

We stumbled across this bar one night and I’m so glad we did - it’s a gem! The cocktails are unique and delicious. Plus they are an extremely reasonable price. The decor is great too and we had a really nice bartender. Marking this as a new favorite.

Late doing this review but… Amazing bar with a great atmosphere and incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. My husband and I hosted our wedding party here back in July and were blown away by how amazing the experience was. Kyle took care of the lighting, music, and food setup so that everything went off without a hitch. He even opened the bar early so that we could decorate. Thank you, Kyle, for making that evening great for us!

The drinks are incredible. Some of the best, most innovative cocktails my wife and I have ever had. So good we practically tried everyone on the menu! The onion dip and duck mousse are not to be missed as well. Super cool vibe. Loved it, Will be back

Best cocktail bar in Brooklyn hands down! Their whole menu is fantastic from the cocktails to the beers and for New York, it is very fairly priced. The atmosphere is very cozy and does a great job of mixing older and modern styles. Kyle and the staff are awesome and super attentive. Look forward to going back!

The atmosphere is fantastic and the drinks are wonderfully unique. The staff is friendly and the crowd hip, yet warm. I’ve been there several times and always enjoy making new friends. Philomena’s is THE place to be in this up-and-coming neighborhood. It’s just steps from the L Train and I make the trip from Manhattan. Nice beer options, but the cocktails are out-of-this world. As the fancy ice cubes melt, the drinks get more interesting and delicious! Tasty snacks are available too. Overall this place is swanky and sophisticated, yet reasonably priced.

A superb bar. We sat at the counter and were served by Kyle, a part owner who provided excellent service and conversation. Quality cocktails at great prices. Recommend the Felix or the Father-O if you like mezcal or tequila. Unlike many Williamsburg establishments, Philomena's doesn't prioritize style over substance. A real hidden gem great for locals and visitors alike.

Yelp
Oohhh, hey Philomena... so lovely to meet you! I've got to say, you're quite cozy with a little bit of swank, simplistic with an appreciation for art and creative with detailed focus in regard to your cocktail menu. Reasons I like these guys? For starters, the place is the perfect size for a cocktail bar. It's got your traditional bar seating with about 6 tables, ranging in different sizes. All in all, I'd say Philomena's can seat about 30 people comfortably. Their menu is short, sweet and to the point. They do what they do and they do it well. Simplicity - they've got a one page menu here, guys... and it's much appreciated! They're also not just some ex-Wall Street dudes with a gazillion dollars who were bored and decided to open a bar. They're actually passionate about their cocktail bar & want it to be a success. All cocktails are very fairly priced, and as a gin drinker, it's refreshing to see that they haven't cracked under the Tanqueray and/or Bompay Sapphire, pressure. That's right folks... Blue Coat, FEW, Citadelle, and Hendricks, are some of the gin labels you'll see on their shelves. That's big time points right there. There is no kitchen, however, they do have dips & bar snacks on the menu. They get their dips from Pomp & Circumstance - DELICIOUS - if you didn't already know. PRO TIP Philomena's has one, large screen TV above the bar. If you're looking for a place to watch one of your favorite shows, with about 15 of your closest pals, chat with Kyle beforehand - he's one of the owners - real nice guy. If you guarantee you're bringing those 15 pals in and you're purchasing beverages, he'll likely agree to put your show on for the duration. It's safe to say that the cat is not yet out of the bag about Philomena's. Translation: consider this a hidden gem... for the moment. But get there soon before all of the TikToker's make their way into the DEPTHS OF EAST WILLIAMSBURG.

Yelp
Nice looking design is all they've got! Introverted bartender seems like doesn't even know what he's doing. And I'm in a hospitality business too. Worst drinks I've ever tasted. Sour! Had to ask to remake. That poor pre-batched bottle didn't look so well, it was late, ordered something else. And! happy hour Sundays apparently are not happy hour Sundays anymore. That's why we stopped by to try a drink after dinner. First time going. And this experience. Told us they didn't remake their website since summer. Well, still charged us full price. That was disappointing. Had high hopes for that cozy place. 2 stars only cause of their design. And because I haven't tried their snacks. hopefully they're better than their drinks.

Yelp
Such a beautiful new bar in Brooklyn. We had the pleasure of visiting earlier this week when we were staying at a hotel in Williamsburg. The bar is quaint and stylish with leather booths. Absolutely loved the rose ice cubed Prosecco. The bar food was also delish. Definitely get the dips and pita. Also the yummy bar snacks. The bartender was really helpful and nice. Def a great date spot!

Yelp
Hello Philomena's! Met an old friend, who lives in East Williamsburg and suggested this new place. Arrived 6:30 and we were the only ones there. My friend had already started with a martini. The bartender came over promptly and I asked him what his favorite red wine was. He didn't miss a beat and suggested a nice montelpuciano. What a great choice! Full-bodied wine for a cold winter night. This is a small, beautiful cocktail bar. The décor is clean, with a dark blue wall treatment, brown leather seating, attractive wooden floors and upscale lighting. A very soft cozy feel. Reminds me of a Art Deco private library, with books on shelves and vintage lamps. The atmosphere was enhanced with the TV showing a fireplace scene with a raging fire. Something like the old Channel 11 Yule log years ago! Ha I'm hungry so we order the three dips: hummus, duck liver mousse and Bottarga onion dip. Comes with fresh, soft large semolina pita. All very fresh, not too spicy, just deliciously right. A nice crowd starts drifting in around 7:30 but nothing crazy, very low keyed group of young, friendly neighborhood millennials. Kyle our bartender/waiter is very attentive and I noted that he immediately offered water when we sat down. That's a big plus for me when drinking wine! All in all a very very nice cocktail bar. We'll be back soon!

Yelp
A quiet gem in the hood. This is my favorite bar. It's has a nice interior with booths. A full bar with a strong bartender at the hand. We always have a good time and the drinks are delicious. If Kyle is there, he's a pro. Ask for whatever you would like and he will make it for you. Philomena's opened right before the pandemic and the neighborhood is still not to what it once was. Somehow, they survived and I'm thrilled. It's just my go to place... if you are come, challenge the bartender to ConnectFour. My bet is on the bartender. He's a shark!

Yelp
I usually refrain from writing harsh reviews, but it is so warranted in this situation. My friend and I came here to grab a drink before meeting some friends for dinner. We sat at the bar and ordered the beer and shot combo and asked for tequila as our shot of choice. My friend and I thought the shot was absurdly sweet but didn't think too much of it. Before heading out we asked for another shot and again the shot was too sweet to be tequila. I asked what the tequila was, and the bartender said it was Lunazul. I've definitely had that tequila before, and this did not taste like it. When we were leaving the bar, my friend thought that maybe we should go back and let them know that we think that bottle was full of simple syrup. He went inside and told the bartender to which the bartender said "Yeah, we've heard that before." My friend asked if we could get an actual tequila shot since we just paid for 2 and got simple syrup, and the bartender basically just shuffled around and told him no. Very frustrating experience. Spent almost $50 on sugar water instead of tequila?? Don't know what the issue was but will not be returning, especially due to the terrible customer service.

Yelp
This is my local join, it's the best cocktail bar in the area. The staff is so kind and friendly, I enjoy sitting at the bar and taking with them. Try the Felix if you like Mezcal. It's a perfect vibe for a first date or any date. I come all the time for Wine Wednesday. I

Yelp
Philomena's (or Philo's as I call it) is one of the few solid cocktail bars on this end of Grand St. They've got trendy cocktails on the menu or the classics (martinis, old fashioned's, etc) for an ok price. From their cocktail list the Willies 50/50 is my fav, it's also strong so I got a decent buzz after one. Some of their other cocktails have fancy, infused ice cubes too. The vibe inside is cool, darkly painted walls and wood accents make it feel cozy and a good date spot.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and great cocktails. Fun place. I had a great time! Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday evening with 6 friends after dinner at a restaurant nearby and the bartender was insanely rude. We ordered our drinks and I paused and he said "keep going, I'm listening, I just won't look at your face". He then forgot one of our drinks and blamed us for not telling him that we wanted the drink. Needless to say, we were the only non-white patrons in the bar so felt a bit racist considering how nice and chummy he was with the other patrons.

Yelp
Incredible drinks in a very cool and intimate space. Highly recommend!! Only wish I lived closer so I could visit more often.
