The 38 Best Restaurants in Phoenix | Eater Phoenix

"West Phoenix may be known for its killer Mexican food, but Pho 43 makes a strong case for a burgeoning West Side Vietnamese scene. This tiny pink-and-white bungalow — which fits fewer than 50 seats — has been drawing loyal crowds since it first opened in 1992. Now run by the five siblings whose parents originally opened it, it’s the epitome of a mom-and-pop spot. Giant 10-inch bowls of pho arrive with all the fixings, including Thai basil, bean sprouts, and lime wedges; the pho dac biet piles on steak, flank, brisket, tendon, and tripe. For something beyond soup, the com chien thit xa xiu (fried rice with pork, chicken, and shrimp) is another favorite. Pho 43 is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Tuesdays. Best for: Shaking off last night over a steaming bowl of pho — or sweating out the desert heat from the inside." - McConnell Quinn

Came here for a girls trip (10 of us) and I cannot tell you how good the food was. The pho, eggrolls, springrolls (summer rolls) and cream cheese was top tier and this place isn’t greedy with their noodles and meat. We’re from a state well known for pho and Asian food but this may top all my favorite pho restaurant. The service could be better but I understand because they were very busy and I can see they have great connection with all their friends and families and customers that was there. We all went back for second before heading home, until today we all still think about Pho 43.

Google
This review, although long, is being left by a true Foodie, as most of you are that are reading it. I've been able to eat pho in California, Hawaii, parts New England, New Mexico, Florida, Nevada and here in the great state of Arizona. This doesn't make me a guru of pho. It just means I really enjoy pho so my palate is obviously going to be different than most . I've also been a server and wait on people for about 12 years, prior to my current career, so this review comes from many different standpoints and understanding of how customers should be treated when eating in you're establishment. We were greeted by the owner, tall buff gentleman with glasses, and things started off well. This small family owned restaurant had a pleasant vibe at first full of people. Good smells and the clitter clack of the kitchen and utensils being used and the pleasant sound of slurping. We ordered hot coffee, delicious. Grilled pork spring rolls which were delicious. Also ordered the fried spring rolls which were hot and scrumptious. The pho, Jumbo Bowl, overall could have used the little bit more depth and oomph but was not bad, definitely not better than Da Vangs(or overall food quality) The wife got a seafood noodle dish which for me lacked flavor, although the spice level was spot on. So overall I would give the food experience a 3.3. So that there's an understanding of my LONG review and rant, as stated above I waited tables and served people for quite a long time. So I have a thing about cleaning up my table no matter what restaurant I go to in any state. Whether or not that be organizing my plates in one pile, putting all silverware and use napkins in a cup or on the plate and I even wipe down my own table most of the time, it's the server in me. And not one person at any restaurant has ever been offended that I did that. So I was very disappointed when I went to help dump my plate and was reprimanded by the owner's daughter. This wasn't the typical "Oh Thank you sir but you don't have to do that" type of pleasant attitude. This was a reprimanding unnecessary and uncalled for, especially if a good tip is the end goal outside of paying your bill. Overall, I'm not sure that I would ever go back or recommend this spot over a couple others here in the state like Da Vangs or even Saigon Pho and Seafood. Pho 43 has a great following and people seem to like it so please try ( I guess I just recommended it ) and leave a review but also give one of the best pho's in town a try, Da Vangs! "EatSteets"

Google
I got a pho tom #17 shrimp pho beef noodle soup & a cola a cola soda ; you walk in give them your phone number so they can call you too say your table is ready to be at & than order your meals and pay afterwards & I'm a realocal born here in AZ and from here this place has been here long as I have been in this area but one downside is I found a very small hair in my phosoup it's loud inside being my very firstime here

Taylor Gooley

Google
Have been wanting to try this spot for the longest time and finally did! I had the shaken beef and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. Staff was friendly and even during a busy lunch the wait wasn’t long. Big thanks to Mikey for taking care of me.

Google
I came from California to visit my sister and I told her I was wanting some pho. We came here and it was a bit of a drive from where she lives but really worth it. This place is so good, service was good also. They serve big portions and you can have enough for later or the next day. I will be back come next trip. 10/10 in my book and recommend to anyone here in AZ.

Google
After being told it's the best around, I had to give it a try for myself and it did not disappoint! From the vibe inside, to the music, to the food it was all amazing! I'll be back! The Pho was delicious, the egg rolls are some of the best and the spring rolls x2 😉 were a hit!

Google
When you love food and visit a restaurant your first impression isn’t the smell or the price, it’s all about the feeling you experience when you walk in the door. Immediately I felt the welcoming, warm and fun energy, it feels like you’re family. Let’s get to the food…PERFECTION. Steaming hot, fresh, homemade and crafted. DO NOT believe the 1 stars on here, try it for yourself.

Rose Valor K.

Google
This place is family ran and has been passed down from generations. Everything is good on the menu. They take credit cards and cash. Their hours are limited so make sure to check their website before going.

Felipe V.

Yelp
im not the time for guy to like this kind of food, but service was good they were very kind about everything and we're just really kind in general
google avatar

Thor X.

Yelp
Aye, what the heck? Who told this family they could make a pho spot that's slap yo momma guuuud in Phonix, AZ? We were on our way back to Texas and were looking for pho and this one popped up. Stopped by and mistakes were definitely made. Because now? We have to hibernate after eating some of the most delicious pho I tasted this side of the galaxy. If your on Earth, make sure you put this spot on your bucket list. Fan to the tastic pho!
google avatar

Alvin L.

Yelp
Worth the wait! Atypical of a pho restaurant in the best way possible. Albeit someone was doing a birthday celebration during my visit, and the vibes were immaculate. I'd agree that this is probably the best pho spot in Arizona! Medium was large enough, and came out piping hot with all the accoutrement of meats cooked to perfection. It really felt like a special group of people making special food with heart.
google avatar

Bronson S.

Yelp
Pho 43 is the best pho I've had in Phoenix! You know it's good when even on a weekday morning there's a wait. When my friends and I came, we started with the grape leaves stuffed with beef. They were really refreshing and the texture was great as well. They came topped with toasted peanuts and a dipping sauce, which added a sweet, nutty and toasted flavor. The pho itself is amazing, the portions are huge and the broth is almost buttery and very fragrant with the different spices used. The brisket is tender and the tripe is crisp. I also tried the egg soda, which was really delicious and rich, it was almost like drinking liquified flan. A must try family-run restaurant!
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
Been going here since I was a baby ! Good quality has not change since day 1. Customer services is always amazing and everyone makes you feel like a family. This place has the best pho in Arizona and the other dishes here don't disappoint either
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Fun little Pho spot, family owned and certainly a vibe! Come early because there can be a wait. But the food is worth the wait. The brisket pho and the vegetable spring rolls were fantastic. The staff is very personable and quick to help! Seating can be a little tight if they are busy.
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place enough. There is something special about a place where the owners are bussing tables and take the time to come and chat with customers. It is always packed but they get people seated ASAP. The menu has all the classics that a good pho place should have. It comes out with plenty of basil and flavor. If you're in the area (or want to take a drive), it is 100% worth a

Yelp
We're from Southern CA where pho is already great. Every time we are in a new city, no matter where, we look for the best pho in that town. Everyone we spoke to and researched, recommended Pho 43. I wasn't too hungry so we shared the pork spring rolls (3 for $6.50) and Super Duper pho ($19.99). Got an empty bowl and started splitting. It was a giant bowl. Either you're a big eater or it's best to share if the other person doesn't eat that much. The server saw us spitting and to let her know if we need more broth. Out of all my years splitting pho, no one has ever offered me more broth! Such great customer service! Fiancé approved of the pho. Tastes just like Southern CA. Coincidentally, we spoke to the owners and they're from San Diego! This place has been opened in the same location since 1992! We were one of the first when they opened. When we left, it was a full house.
google avatar

Earlean C.

Yelp
I have tried many spring roll places, but this one is my favorite. The dipping sauce is rich and flavorful. The restaurant is spacious and clean. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I will recommend this place to my friends.
google avatar

Colette C.

Yelp
Cute little in the hole gem! My fiancé has been coming here for years and decided to finally take me. Walked in and I couldn't help but feel nostalgic, the pleasant aroma filling the air, reminds me of my childhood. I ordered the Pho Tai Bo Vien and first slurp of the broth was a delight! It was already rich in flavor so I didn't add much else besides lime. Portion is generous for the price imo :) Good food, good service, good company. I will come back any time!
google avatar

Sydney N.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious pho I've been looking for. Very friendly staff. Seems small on the inside but there's plenty of space for lots of full tables. Highly recommend the steak and meatballs pho. Tried the iced Vietnamese coffee with milk and it was super strong and tasty. Would come back again. Huge pho portions too.
google avatar

TrentDaune B.

Yelp
I would give them a 5 star but they are a little over priced and Thai tea with no boba for 5.99 is insane If people knew how cheap it is to make a big pot of Thai tea yall would be like wtf!?? lol it's literally Pennie's to make one glass and I'm confused why people are charging so much for it especially with no boba no whip cream no nothing and the cups are small food was pretty good tho we enjoyed the food
google avatar

Ray P.

Yelp
Authentic cuisine, great character, phenomenal pho, stellar service! The wait was worthwhile!
google avatar

Buerstatte T.

Yelp
The spicy Pho here is fantastic. The broth has a great kick without being overwhelming, and the beef is tender and juicy. I loved the addition of chili oil for an extra layer of flavor.
google avatar

Brea M.

Yelp
This place serves some of the best chicken pho I've ever had. The broth is light yet packed with flavor, and the beef is juicy and tender. The noodles were cooked just right--not too soft and not too firm. The staff greeted me with a smile and made sure my tea was always full, which added to the experience. The seating area is cozy but not cramped, with calming music in the background. It's the kind of spot you can relax in while enjoying a bowl of comfort food.
google avatar

Yelp
The family and I came out after spending a day in phoenix. This place is small and was super busy. I think the people working there got confused with the people on line because I think we got skipped a couple of times but it's okay. I'm here to judge the food and that service piece can be improved on. The pho was by far one of the best meals I've ever had. The broth was so flavorful and the meat was so tender it was falling apart as soon as it touched my mouth. The spring rolls and the egg rolls were so authentic and had flavor that felt homemade compared to other Vietnamese places we've tried. The Thai tea felt fresh and the chicken fried rice had a nice color to it as well. Overall, everything was delicious and prepared so well. I like coming to mom and pop shops that love serving such delicious food. It makes all the difference in the experience. The staff were great after they figured out our seating. Very attentive and worked fast paced to get us our food quickly. I recommend anyone in the area to give it a try.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
Do not ask me why it took so long to go here lol excellent pho - excellent egg rolls and veggie spring rolls - Thai tea was delish - chicken fried rice was so flavorful - this was hands down the best steak pho I've had in Phoenix so now I won't be able to go anywhere else lol It's a small establishment- lots of family and lots of regulars I'm betting Clean environment Food comes out fast and hot and fresh We were greeted right away Seated about 20 some minutes after checking in Waited on immediately Checked on often What a fantastic experience We will definitely now be regulars lol
google avatar

Alejandro M.

Yelp
The Pho is very tasty without any added condiments. The steak is very tender and it is so good. Only thing Is the size of the restaurant. It's small and very compact but that comes at the price of great food!
google avatar

Kimberly N.

Yelp
Clean and bright restaurant. Surprisedly good Pho. Tasty broth with a light touch of cinnamon. It came with all veggies such as basil, bean sprouts... Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Water was refilled frequently. Would absolutely return to try other dishes again.
google avatar

Ampi D.

Yelp
I have been enjoying this place for years. The food is incredible and authentic. The service is pleasant
google avatar

Rory S.

Yelp
Best Pho in Phoenix hands down! That broth tho! Hubba hubba. Had pho with tendon, brisket, flank steak, tripe - the meats were all so tender, broth so flavorful. I'll be back. So good. 5 stars. Trust me.
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
Love at first sip!! It's all about the broth for me. This beef bone broth pho scratch-made in this family owned restaurant @pho43express just took me beyond. We needed to find a good pho spot since moving to Phoenix and now we have found it. This is a bustling little restaurant in the middle of Phoenix, but somehow luck was on our side today and we got front row parking and a table after only waiting 10 minutes . Everyone is so friendly and polite here despite the mad rush for noodles. I'll be requesting this pho from family members when I don't feel well, and I need some healing soup. Today the girls and I ordered: TRA NONG (HOT TEA) 32. GOI CUON SPRING ROLLS (3PCS) FRESHLY WRAPPED SPRING ROLLS WITH SHRIMP & PORK 19. PHO GA - CHICKEN PHO 41. BUN BI CHA GIO RICE NOODLE VERMICELLI WITH SHREDDED PORK & EGG ROLL & GRILLED PORK 43. BUN CHA GIO RICE NOODLE VERMICELLI WITH 2 EGG ROLLS Tip - The No. 10 TAI CHIN STEAK & BRISKET Pho is the crowd favorite here according to an owner. I'll be trying it next time.
google avatar

Mayra N.

Yelp
This is the best pho place in the area. I grew up here and I always come back for the best pho. Everyone is super sweet and treats you like family. The service is fast and there are many options. The Thai tea is also really good, but unfortunately, they don't offer oat milk options for the Thai tea. Nonetheless, it's still fantastic.
google avatar

Tabitha H.

Yelp
Service was great, and the pho is seriously the BEST pho in Phoenix! Probably the best pho I've ever had to be honest! If you haven't tried this place, I highly suggest you do because you are missing out! I wish it wasn't so far from my house or I'd probably order it everyday lol
google avatar

Anh T.

Yelp
Food portion was great. Ordered a combination pho, split that into two meals. Price waz spot on too!
google avatar

Cecilia C.

Yelp
Food is always good here and services is top notch. The only thing is hard to order on the phone sometime but everything is good.
google avatar

Peter Z.

Yelp
10/10 best pho, I always get the #1. This place has been around for years, I use to come here with my dad when I was kid. Great service and even better food. It's always clean and consistent.
google avatar

Juan C.

Yelp
Pho 43 you have my heart. This s hands down the best place for Vietnamese food in all Arizona. If someone tell you other wise they probably put raisins in there potato salad lol I always let David order for me and so far everything I've had in the menu is delicious with that being said you definitely need to try the pho with steak and brisket, the breakfast of champions and you have to I mean you have to wash it down with a Thai Tea no excuses so don't walk but run to Pho 43 and thank me later this place has definitely made the must have list no questions asked
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
This place really is a hidden gem. It's a little unassuming building and you wouldn't guess the amazing food coming out of here. It's BUSY anytime you go. Right when they open or midday expect a wait as they don't have many tables. We've had the spring rolls, crispy egg rolls, combination rice and Pho. The egg rolls are crispy and served with plenty of cilantro, romaine and fish sauce. Delightful. The spring rolls are stuffed with shrimp and pork and served with peanut sauce. The fried rice had lots of meats and vegetables and great flavor. The pho was served with SO MUCH!! Meats, noodles, veggies and the most delicious hug in a bowl soup!! Definitely a great spot to get your Vietnamese food fix!
google avatar

Nathan S.

Yelp
I like their egg rolls and pho, but the vegetarian stir fry (#51) they made for me was gross. They put tofu in it (even though it doesn't say with tofu on the menu) and used the flat, wide rice noodles instead of the more appetizing thin noodles. It leaked out of the bag, got all over my car seat, and was a total mess. I threw it all away and because of this negative experience, I probably won't be going back.
google avatar

Melody Joy T.

Yelp
Excellent and authentic PHO! The best in Arizona. The broth was seasoned so well, it was just perfect in my opinion. A bowl of pho can honestly feed two people. Most Pho restaurants barely put meat in their pho but this place puts plenty. Spring rolls were fresh! Thai tea was really good. I can't say anything negative about the restaurant, service was awesome! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Parking is a bit difficult because the place is really busy and there's only so much spaces provided. But trust me, it's worth it! The vibe is real chill, music was awesome. If you want real authentic Vietnamese food, please visit this restaurant. You will not be disappointed ‍
google avatar

PJ M.

Yelp
Great food! Wonderful service. Definitely busy during lunch. Busy atmosphere which is great in my opinion. That shows that business is working hard. If you don't get here before 11, good luck getting in. As a first time here, I appreciate the careness it took to make the broth for the Pho. In my opinion that is what made the Pho so scrumptious. The protein was tender and flavorful. The ingredients paired with the protein was magnificent. That bowl had no chance of survival! Lol Definitely give this place a try. You won't PHO-get it
google avatar

Sophie K.

Yelp
Finally got to try the famous Pho 43! I happened to be around this area, so I had to eat my lunch here. Came here on Saturday around 11:40 ish, and there were already waitings. Waited about 30 mins. Ordered beef pho and grilled pork vermicelli, they were yum! And their price is reasonable as well. However, I didn't feel that they were like exceptionally good, but their food was better than many other places!

Megan N.

Yelp
We were traveling from TX and craved Pho. Came to Pho 43 since it had great reviews. Got there at 11:30am on a Sunday and was told there would be a 30-40 min wait. We decided to wait since it was packed (good sign they must be good) but 35 mins later, we came back inside and were told it would be another 30 min wait (over an hour total). We're happy to see them super busy, but we were super annoyed that we were misled on the wait time, especially when we were starving! We don't care how good your food is, but misleading customers is a hard stop for us! Given their perceived history in the industry, surely they should be able to better estimate wait times for customers. That said, we left and will never be back.
google avatar

Mikaeli B.

Yelp
Still love this place! Can't beat the atmosphere inside nor the pho! David and his family are awesome!
google avatar

Kaylee A.

Yelp
This place was so worth the hype. The pho was unreal. I will drive the 45 minutes to get it 100%. Good quality meat and the spring rolls were excellent as well. Have to order the Vietnamese coffee so good but beware its strong! They were very busy the saturday afternoon we visited but got ua in quickly and we had great service! Throughly enjoyed
google avatar

Jeannine S.

Yelp
First time here and have been meaning to come for many years since I've heard it's one of the best. So glad I went here today to grab lunch and now I'll be hesitant to try other places since it was so good. I ordered the medium pho combo with brisket, tripe, tendon and steak. Also had the cold shrimp (not fried) spring rolls. Pros 1. Love the diversity of the people dining here. Feels like we are in a true city and melting pot unlike restaurants I go to in the suburbs where everyone looks the same. 2. Friendly and helpful waiter (might have been the owner) - tall, young guy with tattoos on both arms. He helped me pack up my pho to go because he probably noticed I was wondering how I'd get it all in without making a mess 3. Pho broth and meat were so delicious. Going to be tough to find a lance as good out here in Phx 4. Portion size is great so I now have two meals from my $24 pho and appetizer order. 5. Hole in the wall from the outside but looks clean and authentic inside Cons 1. The neighborhood looks a little sketch so I'm not sure I'd venture there on my own at night.
google avatar

Destiny R.

Yelp
You have to come early to grab a table but the food is soo good and big portions. The music is a bay vibe i love it
google avatar

Victoria O.

Yelp
Very inconsistent with hours of operations... yelp said open, drove 15mins and they were closed... terrible customer experience
google avatar

Elayne W.

Yelp
A delicious hole in the wall, no frills Vietnamese place. Came here with my group of 7 and had no problem getting a table. I ordered the medium pho which was plenty filling and my boyfriend got the pork vermicelli bowl which was also a good portion. Both dishes were incredible and authentic! Service was also fast. It's too bad we were only visiting since I would definitely be a regular here especially for the price!
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
I thought I was in Cerritos for a second. The pho is so authentic and it works like the triangle offense. Like a wide open jumper for Kobe. The best sign is always a full parking lot and no empty tables. Everyone is there for the best bowl of pho in Maricopa County. I cannot wait to go back.
google avatar

Angel L.

Yelp
great authentic Vietnamese food in the area. We were craving some soup-based comfort food and found Pho 43 on our way home. Definitely hole in the wall, but expect solid flavors on the com tom and pho!
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Favorite locally owned pho spot 100%. The ambiance is exactly what I want from a local authentic Vietnamese restaurant. I always get the Veggie pho and fresh rolls, and I love how they don't skimp on the peanut sauce. Service is friendly and quick, and they get people in fast considering how packed it usually is.
google avatar

Robylene S.

Yelp
Came here for the first time, and I love love LOVE the Bun Bo Hue here! Ambiance in the restaurant felt home-y and the service was spot on. I normally order Bun Bo Hue over Pho, but both are SUPER delicious.
google avatar

Riezza V.

Yelp
Pho was great. Portion is huge and affordable. Not satisfied with parking lot. The place is known for its Pho and for the amount of customers on a daily basis, they should relocate.

Clare V.

Yelp
Service was incredible, called in a large order to go for work and they were very accommodating and helped me through the order. Food was ready to go within 40 minutes of calling. Everything was securely packed and order was perfectly accurate. Wonderful menu options and delicious food. They also included extra ice teas for the clients I was picking up for, which was extremely thoughtful and made everyone super happy. Definitely want to go back to sit down, it was a cute space with a great ambiance. People dining in seemed to be getting served quickly and efficiently. Everything smelt delightful. Definitely recommend if you are in the area; if not it's worth a drive!
google avatar

Kelsey A.

Yelp
PhO-nomenal. Best pho in Phoenix. I picked up two large pho tai before my umbilical hernia surgery. They were really awesome about packing it up for me. I couldn't eat anything but liquids for 3 days so having the broth just hit different. Yum. Soul food. I kept the steak for later (froze it) and it was good for when I could eat more solid foods.
google avatar

Nicholas C.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday early afternoon after dropping family at the airport (also Father Day weekend) already pretty packed when we got there but there was a table or two available. The waiter was patient as I had my baby with me and had to get settled before ordering. Got two PHO, a spring roll, and Thai ice tea. Thai ice tea is your run of the mill Thai ice tea. The spring rolls and pho however were very good. Spring rolls came in at a set of 3 rather than your typical 2. And the pho was nice and hot! That's not all!!! The broth was so flavorful. Not all places can give you nice and hot broth to start but this place had it down nice and hot AND full of flavor. The noodles and meats were all good and were good portion. Just the broth itself is worth the return visit but what made it even better was when checking out, they offered a special discount given it was Father's Day weekend. An unexpected surprise and super nice people have made me want to go back more often! Definitely will be back! Note to owner, my daughter really appreciated what you did for her daddy and being so patient with her (we took a picture to commemorate our first Father's Day!)

Yelp
Tasty pho with super kind owner staff. We came on a weekday afternoon and were told it was a line out the door but it was half full when we went.
