"West Phoenix may be known for its killer Mexican food, but Pho 43 makes a strong case for a burgeoning West Side Vietnamese scene. This tiny pink-and-white bungalow — which fits fewer than 50 seats — has been drawing loyal crowds since it first opened in 1992. Now run by the five siblings whose parents originally opened it, it’s the epitome of a mom-and-pop spot. Giant 10-inch bowls of pho arrive with all the fixings, including Thai basil, bean sprouts, and lime wedges; the pho dac biet piles on steak, flank, brisket, tendon, and tripe.
