Holy smokes, guys. I can't believe I've lived so close to this place for four years and have never come here. If you don't read much more than this, then all you need to know is that the food was amazing and you should try it out.
The inside of the restaurant is nothing special. It's not going to be a romantic date location, or somewhere you take someone to impress them on looks alone. And you know what? It doesn't matter. Some of the best food can be found in the most unassuming places. Let me be clear, this place isn't dirty or disgusting. Just a bit no frills, which is totally okay and I'm into.
I tried three different dishes. First, I had the Spring Rolls with Shrimp. Simple execution where the herbs come out, and the peanut sauce is a perfect balance. Only remark is they were a little "thinner" than I expected. Ironically I know most of it is filler, compared to the shrimp. Normal amount of shrimp, just would liked a smidge more of the other stuff. Otherwise, no complaints.
Second, THEY HAVE PORK! I'm calling this out only because a lot of places in the Metroplex do not serve pork, and I absolutely love pork. So item number two was the Grilled Pork Bahn Mi. Loved everything about it, and all the ingredients really came through. The Pork had a lovely caramelization to it that added a slight sticky sweetness. If I would change anything about it, I would add more herbs like cilantro.
Last on the menu was the Vermicelli with Grilled Pork (I know... but see above) and this one really hit it out of the park for me. With the pork on center stage, I was in heaven. Everything was flavorful and melded together nicely. I could eat this all day, every day. There isn't much more to say about it other than it was so delicious and I will get it again.
If you made it this far, than you're probably yelling something like "Honey, we're getting Vietnamese tonight! What do you want?" and you would be correct in doing so. Visit Pho 544, try out their delicious food (especially the pork) and help a local business out there.
Please note, though, that their Menu as listed on their website is a bit outdated so while it's a bit inconvenient, you might want to go in to order. Fingers crossed they'll get their online menu updated to make it easier to call in an order ahead of time. But it's worth the wait, so until then, get that Pho 544!
