The Best Phở In San Francisco - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"There’s plenty of space to spread out with a group at Phở 808, which is excellent news when you and your entourage are in dire need of highly swiggable soup. The phở at this casual Tenderloin spot has a slightly sweeter broth that tastes like it was cooked in a vat made of star anise. Most of the phở here is beef-based—you can get combinations of rare steak, well-done flank, tendon, and meatball. They also have chicken versions and other noodle soups like bún bò huế and bún riêu." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong

The 18 Best Vietnamese Restaurants In SF

"Pho 808 is one of the many spots for Vietnamese noodle soup near Little Saigon, but it’s the most spacious by a long shot—the big round tables are perfect for zero-effort group dinners. The dặc biệt has a dark broth that’s slightly sweet and highly swiggable. If you’re not in the mood for hot soup, the vermicelli with extra thin slices of caramelized grilled pork is a standout, along with the wiggly bánh cuốn with pepper-dotted pork. More often than not, this spot is the epitome of chill, so you can kick back with your entourage and stay until you become one with your chair." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

I needed coffee before First Thursday art walk and every cafe was closed. Luckily, I decided to walk into Pho 808. Got Vietnamese coffee and Chagio (Imperial rolls) …wow! Delicious strong coffee and really fresh ingredients. Imperial roll is veggie-heavy, less meaty but the fried skin is both crispy and delicate. I asked the sweet owner to refill my water bottle and she was so gracious and caring about it. Thank you! Will be back, maybe pho next time.

Google
Okay rarely write reviews and here I am to support a small biz I was hungover and looking for some food, saw this place online and tbh no idea what I got myself into and knowing the neighborhood is. you know . Beef Stew Noodle Soup: $16 it hits it slaps, just so good 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 I also asked for extra broth coz I love a good soup, the lady didn’t even ask me for $. The soup was amazing and hits the spot ! Lots of beef and tendon given, very tender. The lady (owner?) and her son served me, both are so nice, not good English, very kind ppl. It’s the kind of Asian food place you know the food will HIT (Fits the description of Ali Wong’s show, iykyk Hole in the wall, giant numbers on the name, mahjong table in the corner, etc) The neighborhood isn’t the best to walk around, day time is fine, but relatively fine. Uber in and out if you need.

Love this place. So many fantastic dishes from Vietnam. It's more than Pho. The owner is a sweet lady always smiling and helping. Inexpensive but great healthy meals.

Google
I’m so blessed to live in a neighborhood full of amazing food, and this Vietnamese spot is one of my absolute favorites. Instead of overwhelming you with a huge menu, they focus on perfecting each dish. Every bite is super flavorful and simply delicious. It’s clear they put a lot of love into their food, and it shows. If you’re looking for a place that delivers the best of each dish, this is it. Highly recommend! 🍜✨

Google
I was really impressed by how good the food is. We just randomly walked in as other locations were not open in the middle of the afternoon. We order the dried vermicelli with egg rolls and tomato shrimp soup. Both were amazingly good. My gf said the soup was better then another restaurant we frequent. Location is upper TL so a bit of outside traffic coming through the doors. The inside is not the most presentable, but I was fine with it. The important part was the food and it makes it worth it. I love supporting these locations in the TL. This is a true gem.

Google
small family-owned place. we went in around 6pm on a saturday and were 1 of 2 groups there. I ordered the combo beef noodle soup (15.50) and thai tea (5.00). the food was delicious and service was fast. I'd recommend to anyone in the area :)

Google
Superb shrimp spring rolls! Fresh basil and wrapped tightly—roll doesn’t fall apart while you’re eating. The pho was delicious too, light and hearty broth. Very polite and kind staff as well, good experience overall.

Google
I had the shrimp spring rolls and 22 beef noodle combo- in some ways I am a creature of habit. I came in early for dinner on Sunday, I was able to pick the spot I wanted to sit. Service was polite. I thought it was a reasonable place to relax. The broth was tasty! It's a casual place to get your pho fix. The 22 wasn't my favorite in terms of the beef selection, but I think that's more my preference over what the restaurant provided. Credit card accepted.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday, and got seated immediately. Ordered the pho ga & the rare steak/well done flank pho and both were delicious! The broth was rich & warm. Service was fast & very polite. Both bowls about $15 each & generous portions. Would definitely go again for some good inexpensive pho.

Yelp
I've been hanging in San Francisco a bit & taking advantage of all the Vietnamese restaurants & unfortunately they are in some pretty raunchy neighborhoods but it didn't deter me from going. So off I go for dinner while there is still daylight. The restaurant is absent of any ambience, plastic table cloths, typical low budget decor and too much clutter exposed. The altar with their diety had clutter surrounding it too. It's a pretty large space so there is lots of excess stuff. Now the food, I ordered a beef combo with vermicelli, it comes in a large bowl with a couple greasy vegetable rolls. As I was eating & challenged myself with chopsticks I found all the glorious salad, mint & cucumbers at the bottom of the bowl and if I didn't dig a little I would not have been able to include them in my bite size morsels. It made the meal more satisfying. This place gets good reviews for the food, portions & price.

Yelp
I really want to like this pho restaurant since it's on the 38 bus line and more convenient than going on Larkin. There's also not as many options after at least 5 Vietnamese restaurants closed and reopen as other cuisines the past few years in Little Saigon. However, the pho broth is a bit too salty for my liking. The people there is nice and was willing to make the pho noodles softer when I mentioned I'm sharing it with my mom who needs to eat soften food. However, if you're sensitive to salt, I liked the other restaurants on Larkin more.

Yelp
Came here on Friday evening and got a table straight away for two. Ambiance is casual and good for quick meal. I had the vermicelli bowl with shrimp and egg roll and it was very tasty and good portion size. Husband got pho with rare beef and flank. The flank pieces were a bit too fatty compared to other places. Broth was tasty. One of the better places for a cheap and cheerful Vietnamese meal in the city!

Yelp
Delicious hot pho with kind employees and a cozy ambiance !! Would highly recommend to anyone coming to SF

Yelp
This is more a review for the food. I liked the food pictures and reviews I saw on Yelp so I put in for a delivery. I can say the food was delicious and they do read the instructions you put on your order. Mine was, "No plastic utensils, but two pairs of chopsticks is most appreciated. Plenty of napkins and lots of hot mustard. Other condiments not needed." Delivery was within 35 minutes. I would totally order delivery from them again.

Yelp
Sweetest people!!! Interior is also very cutesy and homey, I felt very comfy here. I got the rare steak pho (my first time ever trying pho) and it was SOOOOO good. It came with all the fixings and there's sauce on the table too. Super duper filling, come with an empty stomach!! I was more than satisfied by the end of my meal I finished my whole bowl in 15 minutes once I picked up my chopsticks I couldn't put them down LOL

Yelp
I love this place !!! It only 5 minutes walk from my Apt. I came here to eat after a hard day of work. It was cold outside but the beef noodle soup was really tasty and make my body and heart full with warm love. The owners were so sweet and nice to me. Of course the food were super delicious ! Everything is so clean. I feel so good so comfortable eating here.

Yelp
Came here for one thing, Bun Bo Hue (BBH) which is a spicy pork soup that ha similar to pho but not really. When we arrived for dinner at about 6:30 one of the old lady waitresses was sleeping in a hammock that is on right side right as you walk in. I immediately busted out with laughter and gave her a hard time. 3/5 - BBH - this was my first time trying this dish and I wasn't impressed. It lacked flavor and I didn't like the spaghetti like noodles. I prefer pho. 3/5 - Spring rolls - very standard with the peanut butter dipping sauce

Yelp
My review is only for the pho - It's delicious! My normal go-to spot is Pho 2000, but they were packed that day so I decided to give this place a try, I'm glad I did. If you like Pho 2000, too, consider this place a good alternative.

Yelp
Quality Vietnamese food! Authentic taste. Loved every single bite. Their vermicelli dish was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
This is one of my go-to pho spots in the city (especially after a night out ;) ) The pricing for the pho is average city pricing (there are a few spots around this one that are a little pricier) and it is one size only I believe. I've only ever ordered the pho, but it comes out piping hot and delicious. The service is pretty attentive and quick. Not too big of a restaurant, and I usually get to choose my own table. The interior is homey and the bathrooms are also relatively clean. Overall, love the food here and will always be coming back to it!

Love the people here. I live right around the corner and have been only once but my experience was 10/10

Yelp
We went on a mini vacation to San Francisco only to find that Covid destroyed our go to pho restaurant in the area, so we search for another restaurant. Luckily pho 808 was open and ready for service. It was on a busy street parking was pretty hard to find, area might be also a little shady, but that would not stop me for getting a good bowl of pho!!! Even though it was located on a busy street, the set up for the restaurant is very cozy and it was indeed very quiet inside. Proof? There is a hammock that the workers sleep in whenever they need a break. How amazing that they are taking care of themselves while they take care of their customers! We went into the restaurant and was greeted right away. The service was really good, the servers were polite and try to tend to our every needs. I brought in a party of 7 so we were able to try a little bit of everything. I had a bowl of Bun Bo Hue and this is pretty much the spicy beef noodles. I have had this in many other restaurants and felt that it was not authentic enough, pho 808 is the first place that really made it awesome for me. Usually, other restaurants want to put spice in pho noodle soup base, change up the noodles and call it Bun Bo Hue, but in fact this soup should be made entirely different because it's a lemongrass flavor soup instead of an sweet onion flavor. I am not going to get into the technicality of how they make this but pho 808 is the only place that made it the same my in-law did (they used to cook at home for me before they get a divorce ). I enjoy the soup so much and the portion is so big it made me so happy. My son got a plate of the BBQ rib with rice, accompanied by this special kind of egg cake with pork in there. He said it was very yummy. I don't eat pork so I did not try it myself, and he really enjoy it. The rest of the party got the good ol' pho, it was very fresh and tasty as well. So in conclusion, food is 5 stars, everything came out excellent Service is 5 stars, they are very attentive and they seems very happy to be there Location/ambience is 4 stars only, because it was difficult to find parking and I was a little on edge being in the territory of people breaking glasses and take cars already, but this is nobody's fault of this restaurant. I give a bonus 0.34 stars for them to live through the pandemic and despite not having a lot of business everybody remain positive and look forward to cook good food for customers. They deserve more business! Please everybody come support a good local business and don't let it sink because of stupid Covid! All in all I give this place 5 stars and I wish I had found it sooner when I used to live in San Francisco, and it's not too late you should go try it too!

Yelp
The pho noodle soup here is satisfying and comparable to the other pho shops in the area. They only had one size and the pho noodle soup was a pretty large serving size. Plenty of condiments. The restaurant does accept credit card payments (May 2022). The general area around the restaurant is not the best. Many dirty streets.

Yelp
Seen this restaurant a few weeks ago and finally decided to give it a try! It opened up right next to my apartment and I couldn't be more happier. When I first seen it's grand opening, I believe the payment method was cash only. Not sure if it still applies as of today 8/15, but I had cash on me just in case. I was greeted by the host by the host who was super nice and attentive. I got the combination pho and Thai tea. The serving portion was huge, broth was amazing, and they make their own chili oil. My Thai tea was perfectly made, not too sweet at all. So glad this place is close to my apartment, I'm going to be back whenever I can!

Yelp
Great surprise.. I generally don't go to restaurants with so few Yelp reviews but I was in the neighborhood checking out a sushi restaurant and I decided to take out food at both places. The food here was excellent. The spices and sauce were great on the barbecue pork with shrimp. The food wasn't greasy and was served quickly. The restaurant will be on my list for return visits.

Yelp
Definitely a go to for me. The food is affordable, always great and the elders are super nice and always willing to give recommendations if you want to try something new. 100/10

Yelp
Food is on point! Owners super friendly. Order the Bun Cha - BBQ Beef AHMAZZZING! I love these Mom & Pop joints....SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS! SF needs you to not forget about her!

Yelp
I'm 100% Vietnamese and I'd say their food is def authentic and well made. Generous portion for decent prices. This is Bun Bo Hue #28. If you order it to go, be prepared to warm it up at home since the dish comes with a portion of raw beef. Nothing wrong w it. Just how the dish is structured so don't be ignorant. 100% def recommend

Jeenne D.

Yelp
I love theirs appetizers, specifically egg rolls anything in the menu is okay, but A+ is the meat rolls.
google avatar

Yelp
One gets the sense that this location might be temporary given the casual decor, but it's surprisingly satisfying Noodle soups may hint that it has staying power. I've tried the Bun bo hue, Beef stew noodles and Combo Pho, and they match the quality of those I've had in the heart of little Saigon (some old favorites like Ha Nam Ninh, may they rest in peace). The BBQ Pork Chop rice combo was also very tasty. I'll be coming back for the convenient location and tasty food. Cash only as of May 2022.
google avatar

Shayla N.

Yelp
Reasonable price of Vietnamese food + quality. If you order vermicelli, just letting you know, it's a lot of food. I appreciate the load of lettuce at the bottom of the bowl and so much meat! The distribution is pretty good for the price. If you think SF is expensive and you want home viet food, I would say come here. The food came out fast and the service is nice. My favorite thing about this place is the coffee. I swear coffee shops "Vietnamese Coffee" has nothing on this coffee. This is pretty much my dad's coffee back at home. I would come here to spent a cheap Vietnamese coffee that's sweet and a bit bitter compared to fake Vietnamese coffee.
google avatar

Nga C.

Yelp
Okie, I was born and raised in Vietnam. I realized via DNA, I was 97% Chinese. So I've been lie to all My life! But that's ok, because I know my viet food when I see one. We usually cook at home when it comes to Vietnamese food. But it was my birthday. And my mom wanted to try this new restaurant. I move away a couple of years ago. So having real viet food is a blessing in the sky for me. Order the Banh Xeo, eggs rolls, vermicelli noodles. Point is, their nuoc mam is legit. It's all in the nuoc mam. In addition: if you want real authentic Vietnamese food, don't expect people to know how to speak English! We come here to America with nothing in our wallet and don't speak English but still manage to own and run our own business. So bring your google translate and accept us for who we are!

Yelp
Pho broth is decent. Portions are generous. Pretty standard fare and lots of competition in the neighborhood, but I think it's worth a try.

David N.

Yelp
Ordered from door dash and ordered combo beef noodle soup. And received only soup and no beef or noodles.

Tom N.

Yelp
Just a big surprise when we saw the good review. We ordered the spicy beef soup and the crepe. Neither was good. The noodles were way too soft as was the crepe. Little flavor in the broth. No air conditioner

ShairaJayne L.

Yelp
Atmosphere had low vibrations. Red and white plastic picnic table covers and mixed mood lighting. The owners were older folks and they seemed very nice. However the pho that we got had so much noodles and the broth tasted old. Kid was also running around and the prices were a little high compared to other competitors. Food was okay overall, but would not come back again. Wish we coulda took pictures but we were mostly caught off guard with the presentation of it all. Ordered the Beef Stew Noodle Soup and Pho Noodle Soup Well Done Flank

Yelp
Meh, bad service and food is not good at all. Go some where, so many vietnamese choices around. Expensive too

Yelp
I came in early for dinner on Sunday, I was able to pick the spot I wanted to sit. Service was polite. I thought it was a reasonable place to relax. The broth was tasty! It's a casual place to get your pho fix.

Yelp
Everything out this building is amazing! I missed the 7 course beef spot but mannnn the bun Bo hue here is one of the best!

Yelp
Spacious, clean, light-filled, family-owned Vietnamese restaurant serving excellent pho, noodle dishes, imperial rolls, and specialty dishes. Service is friendly and food is always tasty, authentic and fresh. My new go-to in the neighborhood.
