Best Pho Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"Pho A Hung by Night is a no-frills, cash-only shop that specializes in phở tái be, proudly advertising it from a neon sign in the window. Tái be, which is rare veal, is extremely tender and cooks gently in the hot pho broth. Open until midnight, this restaurant is a perfect place for a nightcap." - Minh Truong

Google
Large and delicious bowls of fresh traditional deeply flavorful broth pho over here. Cash and Zelle only but some of the tastiest pho, friendly people and laid back not busy spot to relax with a bowl. Treat yourself and get the combination with the tendon, you wont regret it.😉

Sabbir A

Google
Pho was great!!! There was an extra side sauce as well....Service was okay.. but during our visit it was Cash/Zelle only... no CC.. There are parking but it was almost full when visited last night..

MyLinh Long

Google
My husband and I came here for our anniversary and we were blown away by the cuts of meat and amazing Vietnam style thick noodles. It’s was so slurpable and amazing. The broth was delightful and light but full of flavor. We will definitely come back for more! Service was ruthlessly efficient. Lol if you know you know. And lastly just remember to bring cash (cash only business) but they also accept Zelle.

Google
Pho is okay, good flavors, just not that outstanding. A secondary go-to place for a late-night pho crave down on Bellaire. The rare beef options are definitely a plus, a unique selling point, but the broth is rarely hot enough to cook it properly. Nevertheless, it still stands as one of the better pho restaurants in the Houston area. Service is great. Staff is friendly and helpful. Atmosphere might need better lighting.

Doan Nguyen

Google
Really love how unique the pho here is. They have raw beef on the side along with their signature sauce. The broth is also something else. It’s light but savory and they open until midnight. A little down point is that they only accept cash

Nguyen Nam

Google
They beef meets option with Phở noodles are off the charts. In addition they open late till 11pm. Highly recommended.

Google
I loved the phở here so much that I dined 3 nights in a row and took one home for my altar. The broth and steak marinade are so flavorful and soothing. The aroma when you walk in paired with vietnamese music playing in background brought back childhood memories of San Jose, CA. I ordered A2 all 3 times. The raw steak and veggies were fresh and beautiful. The short haired lady is so sweet and attentive. It's cute watching her zip around the restaurant, but I wish the busy little lady didn't have to work so hard. The employees don't speak english, but are respectful and quick to make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely returning soon.

Google
Always the BEST!! They are in my post office parking area, easy walk for a delicious lunch!! Cash payment! Delicious taste, large portions and hot!!! Nice staff and pretty quick service! Keep up the great job, i only eat Pho here!!

Yelp
Top 5 pho spots I've ever been to in the nation. I like the two raw beef options with my pho combination. The best place ever. If you look around and notice the old Asian people. You know it's legit
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
The bone marrow broth - you have to get this with the pho. The broth itself is just okay, but I love how they include the bone marrow broth. The actual pho broth is pretty lacking and isn't very rich. Their meat quality isn't the best and is quite tough to eat as well. They only accept cash, I think. There are lots of better pho places in Houston, so I wouldn't recommend this one.
google avatar

Tommy H.

Yelp
Absolutely the best pho in Houston. And I have tried them all. I have been coming here for over 10 years since a young kid. We still enjoy the quality of their meat and sauce. They are known for a special sauce served with every bowl. Service has always been your average busy pho spot.

Yelp
Oh y'all the real deal holy field of the pho game. Y'all got china town on lock in the H. Y'all not like that bum @$$ place down the street Ngon with lazy ass workers that close early and leaves the streets starving. Having people pulling up on'em to look like a stupid idiot when they aren't even open. Y'all 1,000 and stand on bidness with yalls hours of operation slangin the gourmet mega rare flavor town pho and egg rolls. Mega respect from the sugar land ese meskin community. Ima be back with my whole fam and to support y'all and give y'all all my money. Might even throw a 15 there in the parking lot. I gotta big as$ family too. Htine hole it dine nome tom bout y'all won't ever be on some poverty bidness like them bums up the street. Stay solid. Never switch up. Now im boutta back track and light they ass up real good.

Yelp
CASH ONLY place. Smelled really good coming in. They only have pho here, no side dishes like egg rolls. Mr. W and I ordered and shared a A2 Small as we had eaten prior to coming in. The broth upon the 1st taste, tasted really good and pure. When we finished there was no residue, nothing sticking to the bottom. It was a change in comparison to the other vietnamese places we ate at (in California). Our couple friend V&M ordered a A10 Large - came with a side of kobe beef; oxtail was a bit tough. But the interesting part was the sauce served with meat in general. It tasted of hoisin sauce, ginger paste and water. It was a very refreshing way to end the night. We may come again if in the area, but also curious to try other places as we were only visiting.

Yelp
I was desperately looking for late night soup spots few weeks ago. Pho A Hung by Night came up with "by night" search. But I was really looking for Pho Binh by Night. Sadly, it is not up to my standard of Vietnamese noodles. Call me crazy but when it comes to CoVid19 concerns, I'm dead serious about how well restaurant follows the protocol and practical sanitation in general. I came inside to order takeout. Cashier asked me to sit at a table closest to the counter. After I made my payment, I just realized another customer was instructed the same thing. No, I'm not sitting with a stranger at the same table, even with our masks. Looking around, all tables were filled in the middle of dining room. Few tables were just getting cleaned on outer tables. I couldn't see 50% capacity. Luckily, my food was ready very quickly. I ordered a small size which is $1 less from a large one. Talk about the quantity of meats, it was barely enough for a snack. Soup tasted weaker than most pho restaurants in town. It really was my fault not ordering dinner earlier. I could had gone to other pho spots before they close.

Yelp
I will go here if I am in Chinatown and craving pho but not really my go to place for pho. The last time I came here they told me there wasn't a small option for the pho bowl that I wanted even though it was on the menu so I had to order the medium even though I knew I wasn't going to finish it nor was I planning on taking any home. Honestly I feel like the quality of this restaurant has deteriorated over the years but I will still come here though for my Chinatown pho cravings.
google avatar

Ckoryi R.

Yelp
My go to pho spot in Houston hands down. The Thai tea is also one of the best, I haven't found anywhere that comes close to this restaurant's flavorful pho & tea.
google avatar

Tracy D.

Yelp
I came here on Saturday around 1pm. The parking lot is kinda small. The place always full house but you don't have to wait long. This is the o my pho place that offer veal on the side and it's delicious with the sauce! Overall, I enjoy the pho here.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is terrible, their pho taste is not so great, being cheap on vegetables, ordered extra beef ball they fucked us over for using half of a meat ball and cuted it into multiples pieces. Crazy cheap ass restaurant over charge.
google avatar

Maria L.

Yelp
Terrible terrible terrible. We called and ordered, had them repeat it back to us SEVERAL times to make sure they got it right. We got to the place... and they got it wrong. A completely different soup than we ordered was in the container, and we obviously didn't see it until we got home because we ordered for pick up for soup so you don't see it till you're eating. We called to ask if we can just get like a $3-4 discount next time we came in since they messed up so bad... they said no they can't do that just because - no actual reason. Then they yelled at us and said that if WE want to do something about THEIR mistake, then we just have to drive a whole other 30 minutes to get there, for them to fix it. They wouldn't just let us not have to drive another hour for their mistake and be reimbursed at a more convenient time for us. They were SO rude so we are just driving back to get a full refund instead of fixing it. SO terrible with service. What we ordered had tendon and other great meats, what we got had... meatballs... many of them. On the menu it said that what we ordered DID NOT come with meat balls. What we got, didn't have tendon, what we ordered did!!! THEN WE GET THERE AND THEY LITERALLY SAY "oh, there is tendon there what are you talking about?" And we were like okay then show me because we don't see it - THEN THEY JUST REFUSED TO POINT IT OUT... BECAUSE IT WASNT THERE. These people made a scene WITH US AS IF IT WAS OUR MISTAKE and were just so rude. Do not come here.
google avatar

Yelp
I've tried a lot of pho places in the area but still can't get over this place. The broth is what really bought me in. It's always so flavorful and has a kick of flavor. The dipping sauce that comes with the extra side order of beef is always delicious and refreshing. It has a ginger taste to it that just sings to me. I might be biased because I personally liked this place so much. It's always busy at any time when I go. Never a quiet place. The service is good and the food came out speedy.
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Sorry to say this but after craving pho, this place did not do it for me. The menus were clean and I was excited to try the cow tails and marinated beef but unfortunately, the stock was unbelievably smelly. It had this odor and taste that was not satisfying. The cow tails were very chewy and the eating tendon from my bfs bowl, that was too. It should fall of the bone and be super tender where it basically melts in your mouth. But NO. He got the special and the only thing he liked were the meatballs which were premade. I saw them bringing in packages of meatballs in. Service was good but that's it. Not worth going here. I don't recommend.
google avatar

Chibuzo E.

Yelp
My biggest complaint is that THEY ONLY TAKE CASH!! It's 2019! How is that even possible. It was very inconvenient to leave & find an ATM to withdraw money. Parking is a hassle. If you come during rush hour, good luck. Service is good. Our waitress was knowledgeable and kind. There atmosphere isn't much. A bunch of tables pushed together. You can end up rubbing elbows with strangers; literally. I'm not a food connoisseur so do with that information what you will. The combination Pho was tasty. The best part of it were the meatballs!!!!! Granted, I think they only gave me 3, which was disappointing.
google avatar

Yelp
Went in tonight 11/27/21 at 12 am, I am completely and utterly disgusted there were 2 ROACHES that crawled on to the table and when brought up they just shook it off also one crawled into the chopstick holder and again brushed off and they moved it to another table right in-front of me and those were continued to be used by other customers. I had really high hopes hearing great things about here but i am so disappointed. I definitely would not recommend! Until the roach problem is fixed. Food is good but I couldn't finish thinking about the bugs.
google avatar

Nan R.

Yelp
Great tasting pho but sadly they are very unsanitary. I saw many cockroaches and when confronted the owner just brushed it off. There was even a small baby roach in the broth (wish I had taken a picture) but who needs a picture when that scarred me mentally haha. Anyways, FIX YA ROACH PROBLEM and be more considerate to customers

Danny L.

Yelp
Over price ox tail bowl and under cook the oxtail! And pho is salty!!:( this is my 1 and last time!
google avatar

Mehdi A.

Yelp
Got the Vietnamese Coffee, it was okay, very strong like Norma but it had a weird powdery aftertaste??! I'm not too sure what it was but it was still drinkable. It was nice and cold but it did not satisfy my Vietnamese Coffee craving unfortunately. Maybe if I cross it again I'll try something different but that will be if I'm feeling lucky. Cash & Zelle payment only! One star because they're open late & the other for accepting Zelle as a method of payment.
google avatar

Tim L.

Yelp
This is my late night pho spot , I always get the pho dac biet Kobe, bone marrow ( tuy) , and nuoc beo ( beef fat) Their famous for baby cow veal, and they make their own special sauce for the meat. Be aware they are authentic and also speak Vietnamese, bring cash , thats all they accept. I hope you enjoy , Pho Hung is one of my fav all time spots for pho.
google avatar

Tori S.

Yelp
Been going here for years and this is the first time I felt the service was not good. If you go anywhere else and there's a bug in your food the first thing they should say is an apology right? Well nope I didn't get that the lady quickly took the bowl from me brought it to the back and showed it to the chef who then began to be in denial about the bug being in the soup. They made me another bowl with not so fresh lukewarm soup that was extra oily not like the previous one they brought out to me that was fresh and steamy ... I was a big fan of their broth and pho but after today's incident I will not be back.
google avatar

Kaleb C.

Yelp
Amazing pho at great price. The quality was some of the best ive ever tasted. The staff were super kind and quick to assist. I'll definitely be coming back with friends again. It was a smaller restaurant but felt at home. Clean and quiet setting. Loved it.

Loananh D.

Yelp
Best Pho in town, the reason I put 4 stars because they only take cash, just make sure you bring some cash if you want to try this place out
google avatar

Tung D.

Yelp
It's funny to review this place because Pho here was good but it didn't taste exactly like Pho lol. The broth was ok. The meat was exceptionally good. Some of my friends came here just to ordered the rare beef on the side and the broth. I myself ordered baby cow meat and beef tail together with an add-on seasoned rare beef on the side. I also ordered the fatty broth with marrow and egg. It was so good but definitely not good for your health lol. The marrow was so tasty and fatty. The seasoned rare beef was also so good. It had the lime flavor but wasn't sour. The baby cow meat tasted unfamiliar in a good way.
google avatar

Crystal John K.

Yelp
Great Pho restaurant. Everything was fresh and hot. Service was great. I had their bone marrow and it was excellent. They just did not have the bone.
google avatar

Anh L.

Yelp
Came here because my family and I were out late one night and our usual pho spot was closed; so we gave this place a try. There was a bit of a wait because they didn't have enough room and when we finally got a table, it took us awhile to order because our waiter was nowhere to be seen. TAI, NAM, GAU, GAN, SACH- beef noodle soup with eye of round steak, well-done flank, fat brisket, soft tendon and beef stripe The broth itself is a bit light and bland. There was nothing that stood out to me about the flavors. There was plenty of meat, but somehow the bowl looks empty. It wouldn't be my first choice to go to. Service here is slow and the cleanliness is questionable.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
Vietnamese food was a must for my Texas visit. My girlfriend's go to spot was sold out so we decided to give Pho A Hung By Night a try. I ordered their pho tai be (beef noodle soup with calf eye round steak) and it was so delicious. The soup had tons of flavor and served with onions and chopped green onions. The calf eye round steak was served raw and on the side and it was so good and tender. After dipping the steak into the piping hot soup, dip the cooked steak into their sauce which we could only describe as a plum and ginger sauce. We decided to split a side of meatballs ($3.99 or $0.50/meatball) to add to our bowls so the small bowl of pho was enough to fill me ($7.49 small/$8.49 large). Service was difficult mainly because there was a language barrier. We had a bit of trouble ordering and asking what was their sauce. I'm allergic to peanuts and so I'm pretty good about checking. I asked the waitress what was in it because I was allergic to peanuts and her reply was "sauce". WHAT TO KNOW: *Cash only *Kids, small, or large bowls available *They don't serve appetizers or any other types of noodles...only pho *They're open late. Depending on the night, you can expect them to be open until at least midnight. *Private parking lot
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Maybe the best Pho in the United States. Well at least today for lunch it is. Fabulous broth, like the best in Hanoi and Texas beef is impossible to beat. Pho tai chin here has the best brisket and Kobe flank for a small up-charge has to be tried. Garnish is fresh and not beatable. Prices reasonable, so many good choices for pho in Bellaire, but my favorite now. I feel like I'm back in Vietnam, no credit cards, cash only :-)
google avatar

Vina N.

Yelp
Before and after trying Pho A Hung, I've tried many places, but Pho A Hung still wins my heart. I live very far away from Pho A Hung (almost an hour away), but when I have my pho cravings, my family always drives down to Pho A Hung. The pho there is so flavorful, and it comes out HOT! I love their special ginger(?) sauce that they provide for us. Compared to some other pho places, Pho A Hung gives you an abundant amount of vegetables for your pho. I'm love to put lots of vegetables in my pho, so that was a huge win for me. Now, their meat balls (bo vien)... they're to die for! I usually don't like to eat bo vien, but the only time I would ever eat bo vien is at Pho A Hung. Everytime I order my pho, I would almost always order an extra bowl of bo vien on the side. The service at Pho A Hung is also very great! The workers there are very friendly. Since my family is basically a regular at this place, they know us well and basically know what we like. The wait for the food isn't very long even if the place is full. The ONLY INCONVENIENCE is that this place ONLY ACCEPTS CASH and the parking is a bit small, but besides that, this place is amazing! I'll always come back to Pho A Hung when I'm having those crazy cravings for pho.
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
I only pho once a year, so I wish I'd been blown away. Pho Dien is still the best I've ever had, but they have weird hours, long lines, and sell out regularly. One of my best friends is obsessed with pho. Naturally, I hit her up when I had a rare craving. The MOMENT I sat down at the table, our server (older Viet lady) came by to take our order. My friend was ready with her usual choice, but I asked for a few minutes. The server just stared at me and didn't say anything, so I asked her if she would recommend something. Again, no response. Then she quickly pointed at something on the menu which I didn't quite catch in time, so I asked her to repeat it. Again, nothing. I think we were both exasperated by the language barrier at this point, because she left to go get someone else to come over- a male, English-speaking server. He helped clear up my confusion over "cow tails" (it's oxtail), so I got the young calf and oxtail pho. Our food came out rather quickly. The rare calf meat was served on the side, and after cooking it in the broth, I dipped it in the most delicious ginger sauce. I'm not the biggest fan of ginger, so thankfully this was pretty mild. The broth was tasty, but I could clearly taste the MSG. After my meal, I was SUPER THIRSTY (no dirty jokes, please). We walked up to the counter to pay, and of course it was the Viet lady again. As I tried to hand over my cash, she literally started a FaceTime call with someone. We stood around waiting, unable to contain our laughter at the weirdness of the situation. After a few minutes, she hung up and rang us up.
google avatar

Judy T.

Yelp
We used to love this pho place with their unique dipping ginger hoisin sauce, and their veal meat sliced thinly. The last 3,4 time we came the broth kinda bland and they're really cheap with their meat. We both have to order both extra dish of meat. Two bowls of pho came out to be $30. Not worthy! We are not coming back for sure.

Tom V.

Yelp
A bit far from me, but the bone marrow they serve is amazing. Ordered the special per custom, with no cilantro. Good flavor with tender meat. Ordered the bone marrow on the side and the flavor that it adds as a side was great.
google avatar

DW Z.

Yelp
Wish I could rate them higher but the noodles were just average. Also this place is cash only- where is posted, nowhere actually visible- if you look carefully its posted in small text on the edge of the countertop at the back of the restaurant, where you would go after your meal. Does it make more sense to post it on the door or mention it at the table?
google avatar

Jay W.

Yelp
I used to think that all pho restaurants were the same until I came here. All pho tastes the same, right? And all pho restaurants have the same damn menu... #101 Pho Dac Biet, right? Then I came here and the menu totally threw me off. As the waiter is trying to explain the menu, I'm thinking what the heck is baby cow? That's the differentiator with this restaurant. The plate of raw veal and that dipping sauce is amazing! Never gonna order Pho Tai at another pho restaurant again as that beef has no flavor! The broth here is great and the addition of culantro (not cilantro) is a nice little bonus. They open early too so if you are craving pho for breakfast, this can be your joint! Dang... just saw the other reviews about bone marrow. Didn't see that on the menu before now I gotta try that!
google avatar

Bùi T.

Yelp
Cash only restaurant One of the only few late night food options They have no heat, it's freezing during the snowing nights Good food in general, but nothing's special
google avatar

bobbi n.

Yelp
The broth is light! Real bone broth! The filet is so tender! We love the dat biet. Service is horrible but still worth the drive. Line is expected during peak lunch weekday and for sure on the weekend no matter what time.
google avatar

I.J C.

Yelp
I'm definitely reporting this restaurant to Food Inspection and Safety! You have got to be kidding me with this place. DO NOT COME HERE! I went with a friend 3 days ago for pho because our usual spot was closed. I saw on their reviews that some customers like to order their bone marrow with an egg to throw into their pho so I decided to try it as well. Pho was fine, nothing bad there, but that EGG GAVE ME STOMACH VIRUS FOR 2 DAYS!!!! It's a raw egg they put into the bone marrow. It's either that egg was bad or whoever that cracked it had EXTREMELY DIRTY HANDS. I woke up the next morning with a bad stomach ache...and it just got worse as hours goes by...body ache, 101 degree fever, diarrhea. I had to go to a doctor because my fever and body ache was getting so bad. To the owner and anyone else who might wanna say my stomach virus was from elsewhere...I cooked fresh meals everyday and ate the same things for 5 days straight before coming here so try again.
google avatar

Tu N.

Yelp
Disclaimer: Posting on my cousin's behalf. He ordered (2) large to go bowls. One of the meats requested was "gau" (fatty brisket). In both to go boxes, there was only one (1) piece of gau in each. I don't care what pho establishment you go to. Giving one piece of meat is unacceptable.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
I'm only giving 4 stars because the service was not very attentive. Someone in my party had to get up to find someone to take our drink order. As far as the food they only have soup but it's AMAZING from the broth to the fresh meats. I'm a strong believer in mastering a specific food and being great at it and this place has done just that. Oh and it's CASH ONLY. I highly recommend it closes late!
google avatar

Jaime D.

Yelp
Great place to go eat pho late at night. Pho here is delicious. Restroom is clean. Plenty of parking outside.
google avatar

Fazle H.

Yelp
Its not really the food that made me like this place, its the service. They take cash only and it's all good. They let me run to the ATM to get cash just so I would be able to pay them. They didn't make a big deal about it either so i guess it happens a lot. I'd come back here any time for both the service and the food.
google avatar

Zaran E.

Yelp
Pho after hours, what's better than that. When it's late at night passed 10pm and I will always end up having too get greasy fast food. Well not anymore , also I believe they close at 1am 6 outta 7 days of the week. Great Pho too btw! But......they tell me at the end of my meal when I am ready too pay they only accept cash....it's 2017 and you are a restaurant. So I had too get in my car and withdraw cash from a sketchy parking at 11:45pm. These people are really cheap.
google avatar

Cynthia T.

Yelp
I always get the Pho Be with Ox tail with a bowl of bone marrow with an egg yolk. I usually don't get bone marrow when I order pho, but they added an egg yolk so I had to give it a try. I love the combination. Not many places offer Pho Be so I think this is why I always go here when I'm craving this type of pho.
google avatar

Judy N.

Yelp
Open late, good pho, cash only. Order the tai be (baby calf) pho. They give you special sauce on the side and your baby calf meat separate so you can control how cooked or raw you like your meat. Dip your meat into the special sauce and enjoy. Simple, no fuss pho. No complaints, so long as you don't expect 5 star service. They bring you your food quickly, but don't hold your breath for a refill on your water.

Chris T.

Yelp
I don't know what they put in the pho soup but it made me feel 1 million times better . I had a horrible cough and I ordered a chicken pho soup and it hit the spot . I highly recommend this place !!! Good food and made me feel better . THANK YOU !!!
google avatar

Arcadian B.

Yelp
Authentic pho that just has pho, no bun, rice or banh mi....good pho that is moderately price, customer service is kind nonexistent unless you speak vietnamese, they crammed 5 of us in a 4 person table.....oh yea they accept cash only Good for a quick bit, others I avoid
google avatar

Ryan T.

Yelp
If you haven't tried what they have to offer, then you sir/ma'am are missing out on one of the best pho restaurants in Houston. You gotta believe in the broth they use and what they have as extras. It's about the avg price for pho at any other pho restaurant in China town. The bone marrow with an egg and marinated beef on the side is what I'm going to recommend you try. It's truly unhealthy, but hey... I'm giving up health for flavor! They only take cash, so remember to bring cash money! China town needs to get with the program. Who carries cash these days?!
google avatar

Monit C.

Yelp
Excellent pho. That's it. Small soup size is good for me. I like the young cow beef on the side. Soup is hot to cook it. Flesh vegetables, like they were just picked from their backyard garden! Yum. I forgot to take photos, and took them at the end. Full! Cash only.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my first review but it's only fitting to be Pho A Hung, since it's my favorite pho restaurant. Period. In any city. This is by far the most flavorful and dynamic pho that I've ever had. The broth is very deep and rich bursting with the aroma of boiled beef bones. I love the extensive options of add-on's you get to choose from. Whether choosing between the marinated rare steak or baby calf rare steak (it's so tender), adding Ox tail, vinegar onions on the side, and my favorite, the bone marrow with egg, the possibilities are endless. The dipping sauce is the icing on the cake. You can dip the beef in it which is the perfect compliment to an already appetizing dish. The layout of the restaurant is your typical dive you'll find in Chinatown. But the patrons in there doesn't seem to mind as their only mission like me, is to get my pho fix. I've never eaten pho so many times in a month until I tried Pho A Hung which was referred to me through another foodie. Now, I have to get my fix at least once a week. Sometimes, three. The drive is literally 20 minutes for me with no traffic from Spring Branch. But honestly, I don't mind driving for good food.

Yelp
A perfect spot for some craving Pho late nights. Staffs are always friendly especially the middle-age lady with short hair. She's very accommodating and sweet. Their Pho has nice taste to it and beautiful cuts of meat.

Yelp
Someone once asked what last meal I would request if I was on death row, and I deliberated for a second and answered "Pho and Vietnamese coffee". Pho is bae, plain and simple. Although there are great pho places all around this area, I have to say this place is a home run for me. The calf meat on the side is great. The ginger sauce is an interesting touch. The broth is flavorful but still a decently light level of sodium (MSG runs in my blood though, so take this with a grain of salt). The chef's special combination is a popular choice among my friends, but I get a Large Pho Tai Chin and it has yet to disappoint. I also drink every drop of the broth and clean out my bowl, inspiring awe among all of my friends, but that's just how good this place is. The Cafe Sua Da is syrupy sweet just like I like it, too. In short, this is the best, most comfortable pho I've had in Houston. Other comparable pho places sell out too quickly and put you in cramped tables next to strangers (looking at you, Pho Dien). Pho A Hung By Night is good enough that I will overlook the fact that service is very "Vietnamese". If you run out of water, prepare to die of thirst. Also, some of the waitstaff only speak Vietnamese, so unless you are fluent in pho-Viet like me, better bring a Viet friend or buy Rosetta Stone Vietnamese edition. Or just wait for one of the English-speaking waiters... Like many other businesses in this area, it's cash only. Trivia night - Friend told me that this place had to append the "by night" to its name because it got sued or something. Naming a pho place must be harder than naming a firstborn child.
