Boston Restaurant Closings, Winter 2022 | Eater Boston

"A long-running Fields Corner Vietnamese restaurant that shuttered at the end of December amid a landlord–tenant dispute. Operated for more than 20 years with Dino and Victoria Nguyen leading the last six, the restaurant was known for classics like bun rieu, steamed whole sea bass with ginger and scallions, rare beef in lime juice salad, and bò 7 món, a seven-course beef combo meant for two; the owners indicated hopes of reopening elsewhere near Fields Corner." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

I didn’t expect to have the best spring rolls I’ve ever had here, so crispy, flavorful, and unlike any I’ve tried before (and I’ve been eating them my whole life). I also had the grilled beef and rice platter, which was solid and also came with soup on the side which isn’t done at many places anymore. I also grabbed some BBH to go, and the flavor and spicy level was really delicious. Great staff and service also! I’ll definitely be back.

Google
Great food and very friendly service. Loved their pho, honestly one of the best ones I’ve had. The only con is their nonexistent parking, it’s very hard to find a parking spot close by.

Google
My first experience with this restaurant. The staff was very pleasant. I enjoyed getting a pot of tea when I sat down and went over the menu. I asked for added ingredients in my Pho and it did not present a problem. The Pho was excellent! My only complaint, I ordered summer rolls to go. Unfortunately I did not enjoy the peanut sauce. It tasted more like gravy instead of peanuts. I would definitely go back though.

Nice clean and friendly environment. The food was delicious and they had durian smoothie which my husband has been searching for!! This places gets high marks because of the durian smoothies!

Google
My friends and I really enjoyed this place. I got the Pho Ga which was awesome. Be warned, the chili oil is authentic and no joke. I’m used to flavorless chili oil so I added to scoops and realized quickly I only needed 1, or even half of one. Luckily the limes were there to tone down the spiciness. Service was quick. The atmosphere was quaint and really cute. There is 2 hour meter parking out front, otherwise parking can get a little tricky if you’re not familiar with the area. This was my first time having Pho and it was a really great experience. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Decent pho for a decent price in a strange location. Can’t complain. Though the pho did take a little while to come out of the kitchen unlike most viet places I’ve been where it’s out in 15-30 seconds 😂 also they pre-included gratuity in our check which was odd. Fried spring rolls were yummy.

I love this place. Warm, friendly family, always helpful and patient as I like to get settled in lol. Dining in or taking out my food quality is the same. You receive complimentary Tea while dining in. When I order over the phone they’re very helpful while trying to explain what I want. Rice Noodle w/ shrimp is my favorite. The shrimp are never over cooked they are always peeled, deveined and fresh.

Google
Disappointing experience. They are skimming and expedient about their food. I ordered #2, spring rolls and while they came out hot and newly fried I was surprised to bite into a log of meat. They clearly mash the ingredients together and create meat logs, roll them in paper and fry. Whatever was in it didn’t taste fresh. I’ve been to Vietnam and have eaten in Vietnamese restaurants all over the U.S. This is the first time I’ve bitten into a log of formed meat and it wasn’t pleasant. Then the barbecue pork vermicelli bowl came out. Underneath is a mound of shredded iceberg lettuce and bean sprouts, which makes the bowl look full but there’s actually very little meat and noodles. It’s deceptive plating practices meant to deceive because the bowl looks full. In every other restaurant the lettuce, cucumber, carrots, and bean sprouts are on top, set off to the side of the bowl. Here they use them to make the serving appear to be worth the full and worth the $16.95 they charge. It’s not. The dish was bland and didn’t come with carrots. They have too many obvious cost cutting techniques. The food wasn’t particularly good. I won’t return.

Yelp
This is a small establishment, but is packed with plenty of personality. You're greeted when you walk through the door, your asked to seat yourself. There are so many choices for you to choose from, if you're like me, you want to get it all! The music that was playing was good, the prices are very reasonable and I definitely would return.

Yelp
Came as a family on a Friday night. It was busy but we were able to get seated quickly. The service was wonderful, they were super helpful and gave wonderful suggestions. The food came out hot and flavorful. There was so much food we took food home with us.

Yelp
It's been a while since I stopped in for pho at No Hong since there are so many choices to eat on the block. Craving pho I was planning to go to South Philly however the GPS showed a 45 min. Parking can be tricky on the street being one way and minimal spaces. I parked in the lot for Hmart - bought some groceries. When you walk in the counter has a variety of Vietnamese sweets - sticky rice with beans , pork bao buns and fried dough sticks. Soup came out quickly with all fresh additions- bean sprouts , basil, jalapeño and a lime.. Wow- the soup was delicious and lots of meat thinly sliced. I will be back - this is my #2 to Pho 75.

Yelp
Delicious Pho, Pho Tai for husband, I had Pho Khong. We tried several places in Philly, this is our favorite. I have a cold, this felt like the best medicine in the world. Parallel drinking a cold Tao Smoothie while eating hot and spice Pho...heaven. Very nice folks, clean place , very quick too. Perfection

Yelp
Pros: Fried spring rolls are tasty, but the pho and rice dishes were less so. Staff are attentive and plentiful. Cons: Paid parking.

Yelp
Tried the beef ho fun yesterday. Amazing very balanced not to salty noodles aren't charred but well worth eating again and over

I order the vegetarian pho and it's amazing every time! Fast delivery service every time I order as well

Yelp
Been coming here for 8 years. Good quick service. Hot flavorful Pho broth many options. Also Love the crispy veggies rolls.

Yelp
This place is settled at the intersection of one of the business crossroads I've ever seen. There is ample parking across the street or paid parking up front. This is located near the HMart so quite busy. There is plenty of wait staff available, everyone is very eager to help. I got an order of the cafe sua da. It came in a Togo bottle. My only complaint is that there is way too much ice. The bun bo hue was good but the portion is small as well. The taste is good. It's only missing the ox tail but it had everything else.
google avatar

Hank B.

Yelp
Came here with my girlfriend and we both loved it. I got the beef and broken rice--perfectly seasoned and super satisfying. She had the pho and couldn't stop talking about how flavorful the broth was. The ingredients tasted fresh, and everything was made with care. Service was fast and friendly, and the staff made us feel welcome. The atmosphere is relaxed and clean, great for a cozy meal. We'll definitely be coming back whenever we're craving pho!

Yelp
Nice casual setting. Had my favorite Pho broth had a nice flavor on its own. Added my fish sauce & hot sauce to the equation to perfect it. This will be my go to pho spot in West Philadelphia.

Yelp
After visiting Vietnam about 2 weeks ago I had this lingering taste for Pho. My favorite lock Vietnamese restaurant in Clifton Heights closed a few years ago. I of course took to Yelp for suggestions. Anh Hong Pho and Cafe was one of many choices highly rated. This restaurant was close to other options just in case and near Hmart. I needed fresh fish so this choice was a no brainer. The restaurant has the standard setup similar to those in Chinatown. I was seated upon arrival and placed my order shortly thereafter. The Pho was excellent but the fried spring rolls only average. I found the portions ample and the prices fair. Would I go again? Probably but just for Pho and grocery shopping convenience.

Yelp
LITERALLY SO GOOD!!! Great place for authentic Vietnamese food. My family loves to come here every time we visit Upper Darby. The service is very kind and fast. The inside is clean and nice. 10/10 recommend. They use real fruits for their smoothies and you cannot go wrong with anything you order here. Their portions and prices are fair and so worth what you're paying for.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service! We got our order very quickly on a super rainy day. Three bowls of pho ga, and we were able to sub for egg noodles instead of rice noodle. The broth was chicken based too- very light and flavorful. This spot is very clean and I can tell has been in business for quite some time. When we came in there was a family in the middle, enjoying their meal. I like this place because it's easy to get to, it isn't loud (there's nice, soft music playing in the background), and the pho and service were perfect. Five stars!
google avatar

Shereen C.

Yelp
The pho here is good. Soup is tasty though not the best broth I've had in Philadelphia. The beef tendons were generally tender. Beef was on the stringy/tough side. The soursop smoothie I had was solid. The plantain tapioca pudding was not bad either. Friendly, good service.
google avatar

Mai-Huynh D.

Yelp
My husband got pho which he loved and was really good. I got the bun Bo hue which was not the best. The egg rolls were delicious! Come for the pho and egg rolls!

Yelp
Had the shared bbq platter which was so delicious and enough food for multiple people. A homey restaurant with super kind staff! I often think about the smoothies mango and coconut smoothies here.

Yelp
I ordered 2 Pho Tai's for my bf and I last night and they were absolutely delicious. I've had tons of pho all over the city and in Chinatown and this is just as good, if not better than many other places I've been. The broth had an excellent depth of flavor, the meat was plentiful and great quality, the noodles were a perfect consistency and they gave us tons of veg (bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeño, lime, sauces). They have a super friendly staff, plus there's an Hmart next door so it's a convenient stop to grab some food and pick up some groceries too. This will definitely be my new go-to spot.

Yelp
Come here craving pho on a rainy day and they did not disappoint! FYI there is a $15 card minimum. Basically all the pho was around $8.50, and I got it with steak and tendon. The tendon was extremely soft and the broth was delicious. We also got 2 summer rolls for $4.50, which were okay. The server is extremely fast and attentive, he even noticed me picking out the mint from my summer rolls! Super fast and delicious place for a meal.

Yelp
I go here regularly and ugh! There was a cockroach in my food. Guys please keep the bugs out of the food! I though maybe they were trying to simulate the street food experience. Anyhow, the owner seems nice and they are all super hard working. Didn't charge me for that bowl. Another time I ordered over phone and I got 4 containers of beef stew instead of pho. I think I'll take a break but guys if you make sure the food is clean I will be willing to give it another go Thanks!

Yelp
Great, authentic tastes. Very prompt and kind service. Prices are fair. Would recommend!

Yelp
Literally my favorite place to get Vietnamese food from in UD. Pho comes out piping hot every time, meat cooks well in the broth giving it more flavor. The Spring Rolls & Summer Rolls are bang'n, and I like their fresh brewed tea, sometimes I get the coconut bubble tea to go, I definitely recommend, plus everyone is so nice here. Parking can be scarce depending on the time of day but there is a parking lot across the street.

Yelp
I had the Bún Bì Thit Nuóng (#33) and it was so good the first time I had it, the only reason why I didn't give it a 5 is because the second time I came, my food was kinda cold and they forgot my tea but I guess it depends on what day a certain person comes in. The food still taste the same which is very delicious btw it's just cold. Also, it's not mentioned on the dine-in menus that there's a price change difference so you'll be paying more than what it actually says on the menu due to Covid. Some drinks have a different price change compared to the food so you don't know what your order will come up to so have a lot of money coming here..

Yelp
Very solid Vietnamese restaurant conveniently located right by 69th terminal. Great menu, really friendly waitstaff, very reasonably priced. Not too busy, good hours.

Yelp
This is my go to spot for Pho. The staff is friendly, food comes out fast. The restaurant is clean and cozy. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Some of the best meals come from the most unassuming places. The old Dim Sum Garden when it was an open air kitchen next to the Greyhound terminal in Philly comes to mind. So I had high hopes when my taste for pho led me to this cafe on Terminal Square in Upper Darby. I gave it two shots over two different weeks and both times it sadly came up short for me. The first time around it was my standard - Pho with Flank. The order was piping hot with and came with the traditional accompaniment. The soup was decent, but a touch sour. That didn't throw me off as much as the sprouts, which had a subtle taste of cigarette smoke. On my second visit I went with the pork Bahn mi. Not much to foul up there, right? It struck out on all fronts for me. The roll was unbelievably stale with the pork rubbery and lacking any char or flavor. The veggies were a bit flaccid. It left me wishing I had soup to dunk it all in. I detest giving poor reviews - this might be my first negative one - but I think there won't be a third time back for me.

Yelp
Let me set the mood about this place. Authentic. Fresh. Menu variety. Family owned. Fabulous service. This fabulous Vietnamese restaurant is located conveniently at Terminal square in Upper Darby with at the door parking. Every time I've dined here I've been warmly greeted as if I were family. I've easily tried 30% of the menu over the last couple years and I have never once been disappointed. Yesterday I decided to take a walk on the wild side and I did a " dartboard" menu selection by just pointing to an appetizer, a soup and an entrée, ordering enough to have leftovers for home. As was the case every time I've dined here I was incredibly happy and left with a full belly. The best thing I love about this place is that you are never rushed . If you're done your entrée and you just want to sit and enjoy the rest of your pot of free Tea Feel free to do just that. One of the few places that still gives you a free pot of tea. City dwellers should know that this is just a very short walk from the El at 69th St. terminal. Give this place a try. You will be happy

Yelp
I love pho and tonight was totally craving a hot delicious bowl of pho. I've just moved back, after years in Cali (where the pho is amazing) so I let my fellow Yelper's review lead me here. Plus, it is super close to where I live. I ordered the 47 beef brisket pho and the 2 fried rolls. My order was takeout, but they do have limited dining, which is great. The place is next to H mart and parking can be tricky so be prepared ro double park to scoop your order up or wait for a spot if dining in. My order was ready as soon as I got there( I did order on my drive there, about 7 min). I'm a fan of well packaged food for takeout/delivery. They don't skimp here! Plenty of utensils , napkins, sauces and the like. Ok so on to the food! I'm used to a more heavier flavored broth but I really enjoyed this one. Nice and light, clear with a clean flavor. They give you ample toppings, noodles, and meat. I'll for sure have left over for another yummy bowl. The meat is well cooked, sliced and cleanly seasoned. The rolls were super crispy and quite fat, in terms of the filling. Most rolls I e had they really skimp on filing . Not here! They were tasty and well made. All in all I'll be back for some bun, and other pho's! The service was attentive, fast and friendly! Thank you and see you soon!

Yelp
First time trying this Pho place, (don't eat beef) and got to-go. I got the pork liver pho ($8.50) and chicken pho (Pho Ga, $9.25) and they were great! I liked the pork liver pho a bit better because it was a heartier and more savory soup. The Pho Ga broth was clear and light - you can opt to get dark meat (bone-in) or white meat (bone-out). I got the bone-in and the meat was very tender, the bones weren't too hard to eat around. I really appreciated how large the portions were and the packaging for to-go. The veggies were in a separate bag, noodles and meats in a separate container and soup in another. Sturdy bag and tied very well, nothing leaked on the drive home. Looking forward to eating in soon!
google avatar

Yelp
This place has great pho for great value; i come here for big groups because everyone always finds something that they want. I've had their pho (all of them are good, trust) like ten times and the broken rice is also a win (although I like to drown my grilled pork in dipping sauce)
google avatar

Allison T.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite local Vietnamese places for dining in & take out. The menu has over 100 different items, so you'll be sure to find something you'd like. My go-to dishes are their thai teas, ham/pork banh mi, crispy spring rolls, the beef & beef ball pho, and their charboiled pork with an egg on broken rice. I've never had to wait to be seated and take-out/carry-out orders over the phone and service dining in never takes more than 10-15 minutes. This place is also super-affordable for high quality food. (But they do require a $15 minimum purchase for credit cards) If you are ordering their pho for take-out/carry-out, I would recommend cooking the noodles separately before adding to to the broth (or add the noodles to boiling broth), just because they're a little more al-dente and the pho is not served at boiling temp. If you don't have hoisin sauce, Sriracha sauce, or limes at home, make sure you ask for some before you leave!
google avatar

Tony D.

Yelp
I like their service and speed the broth is solid. Crispy spring rolls a little different. Will give u tea. Like these guys
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered Bun Bo Hue (#41) and crispy spring rolls... It was absolutely delicious and fresh! My partner hates hot food, but he couldn't stop sipping my soup. He said, it was the freshest soup he's ever had, and that is saying something! The crispy spring rolls were delicious and a nice size! The customer service was nice also, and the price for the amount of food wasn't bad! I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Excellent! Pho was hot, fresh, plentiful and fragrant! Dragon fruit smoothie with Lychee jelly wonderful Grilled shrimp was flavorful and very very good! I definitely order again. Thank you

Yelp
I'm reviewing their to-go service. I ordered four pho bowls to go. Each one was packaged in styrofoam containers with their proteins, noodles, and toppings. I would've appreciated a label like a "C" for chicken pho as that was the only one & the rest were beef. I asked for the noodles to not be cooked so I can quickly blanch them at home & not have it overcooked when served. They bagged it inside the styrofoam boxes, so everything was pretty organized & compact. I forgot to take a picture of the veggies included. However, there was more than enough for all four bowls. Chopsticks, spoons, napkins were all included. I waited in the store and it took around 15 minutes from order to pick up. Taste: The beef pho broth is delicious. I can smell the cardamom coming from it & it's wonderful. I have zero complaints. I am a fan of pho 75, however if you're looking for a spot to have some pho on a cold day, this is will hit the spot. It's nice to know there's a place with pho in Upper Darby I can go to after work without having to drive to south philly to get some before heading home. Chicken pho- I have no idea how it tastes. I ordered this for a friend who wasn't feeling well. Will update once I ask her about it. I noticed a $15 minimum for card payments. I paid in cash simply because it helps them maintain income towards the business. Just my preference & also to support small businesses during covid.

Yelp
Rolls For Banh Mi stale. Meat dry. Not enough vegs. Probably the worst Banh mi I have ever had.

Laura B.

Yelp
Always fresh and delicious. Love the Shrimp Pho. Grab the coconut rice on the front counter if you can.

G H.

Yelp
Food is good. However the price on menu and what you get charged is totally different. If you look at posted menu from 4 years ago and prices on menu now, the price jumped like double. Also if you order on grubhub. They Jack up price again from menu.

Mariah C.

Yelp
Always amazing here! Good food and great service, I'll always come back they will be my number one forever!!!

Yelp
This lone Vietnamese place fills a culinary gap in Upper Darby. They make tasty pho, comforting and inexpensive, with decent-sized meat chunks (if you're of a mind). The broth isn't the best I've had but you can't beat the convenience and speed of their kitchen. Best of all, you can order their pho to go, noodles and fixings all neatly packed for your pleasure.

Tom H.

Yelp
Not a great food experience and sadly payment experience made it worse. Food: I had high hopes, but I'm confused about why this place is so highly rated and recommended by Philadelphia foodie blogs. The portions were great, but the food was not good. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't enjoyable. I'm not sure what or how they cook it, but the broth smelled off, making me hesitant to try it. Eventually, I decided to taste it, and all I can say is that it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good either. The meat was not flavorful, and while it was edible, it's not something anyone would want to come back for. In a polite summary, the broth and meat were stale. Ambiance: The ambiance is an average old school setup. It's a bit dark and not the cleanest, but it's okay. If you plan to take a date here, you can describe it as an "authentic" spot. Service: The staff was great, except for the guy who took my bill. They were quick and friendly. But for the guy in charge of taking the bill... For future reference, if the bill is around $25, and a customer pays with two twenties or a fifty, just bring back the proper change. Why ask or assume the rest is a tip!? You didn't see me park a Ferrari, Lamborgni, McLaren or a Bently; my last name is not Bezos, Buffett, or Murdoch; I'm not wealthy, and tipping at 90 or 100 percent of my meals is not feasible for me. Also, provide the correct change instead of high bills to passively but aggressively"encourage" a higher tip. It's awkward and makes the customer uncomfortable. Those "tactics" feel aggressive or desperate. Such an interaction made me reconsider my tipping decision. You still received a % tip above average because that one action is not reflective of the staff, but it'll be my first and last time here. I'll tip you for not asking and just going through the motions without any weird moments. I can't and wouldn't recommend this place. I'm truly confused as to why it is so highly rated! I will not return.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem. Stopped by on a cold day and the pho was incredible. Between my friends and I, we had chicken, beef and shrimp pho. The broth was amazing. I also had the spring rolls and my friends had Thai tea. Couldn't recommend more

Yelp
Love this place. If only it is closer to me, but I don't mind coming out to Upper Darby for it. The restaurant has one of the best pho. The service was among the better ones I experienced from a Vietnamese place. They also did a good smoothie, which is important. I love fresh durian and avocado smoothies. :)
google avatar

Yelp
Everything I have had here is delicious!!! The goat curry soup, the chicken soup, and the charbroiled pork vermicelli are my favorites.
google avatar

Pamela G.

Yelp
This spot was a simple looking but clean Vietnamese restaurant near the Tower Theatre and we found it on Yelp. We wanted a change from our typical bahn mi or pho so we order the salt and pepper squid and the seared pork and vermicelli. Both were great. The squid was lightly battered with well sautéed onions and crunchy lightly sautéed thinly sliced peppers. It was fresh from the fryer. The pork was perfectly seared and served over vermicelli and veggies with a light, vinegary and umami sauce. The server was perfectly attentive but not in our face. I look forward to returning whenever I'm in the area.

Yelp
Great prices, taste, and customer service. Parking is a little rough, because it shares the same parking lot as H mart, but once you get in, you're gonna have a pleasant experience.

Yelp
We come here at least once a week like clockwork for our regular Pho #47s and fried tofu, and chicken bahn mi with extra jalapeños, if feeling particularly peckish. The beef broth is rich always, and the breading on tofu is ever crispy. I quite enjoy the Chinese black tea as well. Can't seem to find it as bitter anywhere else. And the Vietnamese coffee is toe-curling sweet and smooth. For 40 minutes out of our evening and for under $40 with tip, Anh Hong is worth a visit for consistently reliable pho.
