Pho Golden

Really good Vietnamese food with extensive menu. I like that their veggies include fresh mint. While waiting for my to go order by the door, the female staff gave me a cup of hot tea. That was really nice of her. The tea was very fragrant like pandan tea served in Vietnam. Dining area is pretty big. Plenty of 4 person dining and big group dining tables. One con is parking. Very hard to find parking in the mission and residential area. Went on weekday afternoon took about 15 mins circling around. Otherwise, I think this is a good go-to spot for Vietnamese food in SF.

Very disappointing experience. I ordered the chicken curry and the soup was warm, but the chicken inside was literally cold. It felt like the kitchen just took a piece of refrigerated chicken and dropped it into the curry without bothering to reheat it properly. Biting into cold chicken in a supposedly hot dish was extremely unpleasant. To make it worse, the dish came with a whole chicken leg with skin instead of properly cut pieces. It was awkward to eat and the texture was terrible, especially since the meat inside was still cold. For a simple dish like chicken curry, serving cold chicken in soup is really unacceptable. This felt careless and poorly prepared. And the service is like none. Definitely won’t go again.

Very good pho. Flavorful broth and large chunks of meat (I ordered tendon and it was full or large chunks). Noodles were qiu-qiu and service was warm and friendly. The spring rolls were good but I think they could have had a little more flavor to it. Took a little bit of time to get our order in because I think they do quite a bit of takeout and delivery but all in all, was a good experience and good pho.

I had the Pho Ga, which was super tasty. The place is a no frills working joint, not fancy in any way. Just good food and fast service. People were eating and talking (some loudly). I came in half an hour before closing and more people kept arriving right up to the mark.

Family owned restaurant with authentic Vietnamese dishes. Staff is very friendly, food came out in a decent amount of time, hot & fresh. Finding parking can be tricky.

A true hole in the wall experience!!!! Literally some of the best pho broth in the ENTIRE bay. It’s very easy to miss this spot because it used to be behind the bus stop post before they removed it. Street parking is available on weekdays, never had a time where I couldn't find some parking within walking distance. I would go here all the time on my lunch, they are quick to bring out their signature pho. I would be in and out in 20 minutes. 5/5.

Hi everyone, I can testify this is the best Pho I ever try. I didn’t know what to expect, but from the appetizer to the main menu. It was worthy.

I don't even write reviews, but honestly the best beef steak pho I've had in a while. Also, very friendly service. If you're questioning trying it, just do it.

Edited my original post from last year since was taken down: If you stumble here, parking is slightly difficult, but is better after 6pm. They're hidden directly behind the bus station. Convenient if you take the bus. This is a good stop to warm up your cold tummy. I've been here so many times now thus far before deciding to write this review. Inside is visually clean, has an authentic vibe with friendly staff. The food is decent. Plenty of selections. Portions seem to vary. I'd say the banh cuon would be very little food to fill compared to the noodle bowls. So if you're hungry, hit up a bowl of warm noodles like myself. Their tea tastes very good in comparison to other places. I believe coconut flavor is added in. Clever. Will come back to try more dishes in the near future.

Parking around this restaurant is kind of hard to find. We managed to find a metered parking spot several blocks away. However, bus #14 stops right out of the restaurant and bus #29 stops couple blocks away. Upon entering restaurant, a friendly waiter greeted and seated us right away. They have an extensive menu. We ordered the Seafood Noodle Soup, Banh Khot ( Small shrimp pancakes), and Banh Xeo ( Rice Flour Crepe). The food came out in a timely manner. The Seafood Noodle was piping hot. It came with a side bean sprouts, basil, and jalapeños. The Banh Khot and Banh Xeo were both crispy. Both of these dishes came with sides of lettuce, herbs, and fish sauce with pickled carrots. The Banh Khot had shrimp in them. Banh Xeo had Chinese bbq pork , shrimp, and bean sprouts in it. Out of these three items that we ordered. The least favorite was the Banh Xeo. It normally comes with regular pork, not bbq pork. It was on the bland side. They were generous with the portions and the prices were fairly reasonable. We will be back to try their other entrees.

On a cold, rainy day, what's better than a hot, steaming bowl of pho? Pho Golden was our destination restaurant in the heart of the Excelsior neighborhood. We searched; Yelpers delivered! My son ordered #64, the short rib rice plate with fried egg rolls, a chicken wing, fried egg and a cup of chicken broth. I ordered #34, a big bowl of steaming Pho with rice noodles, steak and beef balls. I began adding Thai basil leaves, jalapeño slices, a dollop of hoisin sauce and crunchy bean sprouts. On a cold, wet day, pho is the perfect meal. Service was very kind and polite. They filled our glasses with rice tea and replenished our Thai basil supply. We added chicken wings, crunchy/hot and delicious and fresh spring rolls with grilled pork. We devoured all of it. It's a modest place, very clean with homey touches like fresh orchids in the window and pretty artwork on the walls. A couple left before us, ecstatic they found their favorite spot reopened after the pandemic in a new storefront. I asked what their favorite dish was? "Everything!" was their answer. Street parking can be a bit challenging but after 6 when the plethora of commercial meters time out, you'll be less frustrated. I had to circle 4X (worth it).

I dined at Pho Golden for dinner and it was a great spot. The staff were friendly and the seating was spacious inside. I ordered the #51 rice plate combo which included pork chop, fried egg, egg rolls, and a fried chicken wing. We also ordered the bahn xeo. All the food was delicious and were generous portions. It was one of the better bahn xeo that we've had in the city.

Shoot, you don't even have to leave your house because you can have it delivered! (Yes, there's a social media famous resto in The Sets that serves these items but I prefer the more low key Viet places.) Opening in mid-September 2024, Phở Golden took over An Chi. I believe the owners previously owned Golden Saigon on San Bruno Ave (Portola) that closed during the pandemic. They're open for takeout, delivery, and dine-in (no outdoor seating). M E N U Extensive Viet Menu with all the staples: Apps, phở, bánh mì, bún (vermicelli), cơm (rice plates), etc. And, the harder to find aforementioned items. They also have a vegetarian and catering tray section. Even tho they have cá kho tộ (caramelized catfish claypot) and canh chua cá (sweet & sour catfish soup) on the menu, it's not available due to lack of demand from customers. No alkie. If they finished the bánh khọt with scallion oil, it would have been 5 stars. *#67 Bánh Cuốn: Rice Noodle Rolls w/ pork, wood ear mushrooms, cassava ($16.50) // 3 Stars: https://tinyurl.com/42p64mb2 Different style than I'm used to, the bánh cuốn had an odd texture...very stretchy. Almost seemed like they used the rice paper hack. Light on the filling that seemed cassava heavy (nutty). The chả lụa (Viet ham) was ok, tho tasted quite commercial. S E R V I C E Warm and friendly staff. Food took awhile since it was made to order, about 20 minutes. A M B I A N C E Casual, no frills with nine four-top tables. P A R K I N G Very difficult metered and residential parking. 14 Line is right in front. Overall, will need to explore more of the menu but Phở Golden is a solid addition to The Excelsior. If you live in the area, def give this new local small business a try!

Found this gem off DoorDash and been ordering it three days in a row. Their banh cuon is pretty good considering it is in SF. The rice plate is my favorite because it comes with so many items. The owner is kind enough to trade it out for more beef since I don't want all the extra stuff. I will definitely keep ordering from here.

Pho Golden is on Mission and Persia St., right at the bus stop. This used to be another Vietnamese restaurant at this location, An Chi. Tonight, Pho Golden was 90% empty at dinner time on a Tuesday. Their menu is similar to An Chi but Pho Golden has crispy noodles, garlic noodles and different appetizers. I tried their crispy egg noodle w/seafood $17.50. This was OK with a tasty gravy. There were adequate amounts of seafood and vegetables. It is missing a wow, that was great factor. My water was not refilled as their waiter busy on his phone browsing the net. Hours later, my mouth still had a weird taste as if I ate too much salt.

Little hole in the wall place with plenty of indoor seating, authentic food, and good service. My wife loves a good rice roll and these were packed with flavorful ground pork and topped with crispy onions. The bahn khot were crispy and tasty, though a bit overcooked. The beef stew was full of meat (though unfortunately a bit on the tough/chewy side) and large chunks of carrot, had a nice anise flavor to the broth, and had plenty of thin egg noodles. Overall will definitely come again and try more -- there are plenty of options on the menu.

This place produces excellent Banh Mi, Egg Rolls, and Pho. The people are professional and pleasant!

I really liked this place! The menu has a lot of variety which is what I was looking for. I'm interested in trying their Bun Rieu and Bun Bo Hue next time. The pho was fairly average compared to other pho restaurant close by, but their Banh Khot and Banh Cuon were great. Will definitely be back! Parking on Mission is so difficult so I would recommend busing or going into the neighborhoods nearby to find parking.

This is a really nice family restaurant. They just opened up in September . I ordered the crispy noodles with seafood. It was really tasty the shrimp was quite big and the squid was tender. The fish balls and meat was also delicious. They were open for Thanksgiving and that was a plus .

Ordered for pickup, they prepared everything so quick! And they packed everything so neatly. First time having the Bahn Cuon, it looked very appetizing through all the pictures. So good! You won't be disappointed. I think I will order it every time I visit lol.

i love this restaurant so much! the chicken pho is what i always get, but my girlfriend loves their beef pho- super flavorful and always hits the spot! the thai tea and vietnamese coffee never miss either. the family is very sweet, and often serves tea as soon as you arrive! 10/10 food and service :p

Spontaneously came here on a foggy/cloudy day and their pho hit the spot, food was so comforting that it warmed my soul. I ordered a beef noodle soup with brisket+steak and it came out pretty fast. To drink I decided to try for the very first time a Vietnamese coffee, and I'm in love!! They freshly brewed my coffee maybe that added the pizzazz to it.

I came back to my childhood neighborhood and saw this grand opening of this restaurant! Bun Bo Hue is SOOOOO good! I don't have to go San Jose anymore! Come to find out, the owners previous had a restaurant in San Bruno area, they closed during COVID! This is where I want to show my support to this amazing young family!

Vegetarian Revelation! My husband and I are both vegetarians. He ordered the Pho and I ordered the Vegetarian Vermicelli. Both were excellent. Pho was not too salty but still deliciously flavorful. Vegetables: broccoli celery and carrots excellent. Weakest part was fried tofu in vermicelli dish. I wish they would offer the soy protein "meat" offered at Golden Era restaurant. But overall highly tecommended!!

The beef stew was sooooo flavorful! I finished the entire damn thing! Don't even get me started on the beef carpaccio! Very delicious! My girl and I will definitely be returning.

Reviewing for delivery experience. We ordered beef pho. The portion of meat was decent and it was packed nicely and the food tasted good. They followed my instructions on no cilantro as well which was great!

Man.. I'm really satisfied. I'm kind of a pho snob and hard to please at new places. Went in here to pho golden without much expectation wanting to just try the new place in the neighborhood. The space itself isn't anything special, but The man working was super friendly and the food was great. I had pho and my girl had the short rib rice plate. All of which was really flavorful. Definitely gonna come back, hopefully it's consistently good. If so, I'm eating here more often, very often, all the time.

Wow!!! This place is absolutely delicious! Got the vegetarian pho and it's the best I've had in years. Highly recommend this place. It was flavorful, had lots of vegetables and it all looked and tasted so fresh. Very friendly staff and generous with the condiments.

So happy to have this place in my neighborhood! I ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee and the combination #5 with short ribs, fried chicken, egg, and little salad. The portions were quite big. I was eating for one this time and I love that I can get so much variety in one order for a reasonable price! I ate at home 30 minutes later and the chicken wing was still crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside (which means you could definitely get this on uber eats since it travels well). The short ribs were packed with flavor having that sweet, salty, umami flavor that vietnamese cuisine is known for. There was also plenty of rice, I wasn't able to finish it. The coffee was strong, and had a good balance of sweet and bitterness just how I like it. The only thing is that the soup is not included if you order to go. I inquired about this when I noticed it wasnt included but they were nice enough to give it to me this time. I think discluding the soup seems to be a common practice when youre getting to go rice plates at asian restaurants, but I'm not sure if its always like this. The soup was very flavorful and either way I would pay extra just to get some broth on the side. Sometimes you dont want to spend a whole nother 17$ for big portion of pho, but just something comforting to pair with the meal. Overall, I would say I had a perfect lunch and it was truly one of the best vietnamese plates I've had! I also ended up talking to another diner and they said the food was great and really enjoyed the noodles they ordered. Apparently there is new ownership so the place looks brighter, more inviting, and the food is just more flavorful. It seems to be family owned and the staff were all very kind and accommodating to me. I went to this location before the new ownership a year or so ago and I dont remember it being that good or memorable enough to come back but will definitely come back now and bring family and friends to try other items on the menu! (Will update then.) I truly hope this one is welcomed and supported by the community because we need a good Vietnames restaurant to survive in this neighborhood!

Their pho and bun reiu is sooooo good. Fast friendly service. Authentic Vietnamese food priced reasonably. Look like they just opened recently.

TINY rationing portions here A large pho is $16.50 - And they give you the SMALLEST amount I've ever had in the city. Literally is half the size of a medium at ppq or Kevin's Came in hungry and left hungry. Kids size meal for $20. Broth was good though. Will not be returning.

I have eaten at this new neighborhood place twice so far. Both meals were fresh and delicious. Looking forward to working my way through their menu!

Ok let me just preface this by saying that I feel REALLY bad about leaving a negative review for a newly opened family run business....BUT this was honestly the most disappointing meal I've had in recent memory. The sugar cane shrimp banh hoi was so bland, basically flavorless, and drowning it in fish sauce didn't help at all. For accompanying herbs, they do give rau ram and diep ca (on top of your normal basil, mint) which I don't see often. I felt like I was forcing myself to finish this dish though..it was so bad. The banh cuon was slightly more palatable, but the texture of the rice batter was strange and not smooth. For the chicken wing appetizer, the only thing it had going for it was that the batter was crunchy. It was SO bland as well, no seasoning at all, and the drumsticks were overcooked, wings were decent. I don't know how basically all three dishes came out to be extremely bland (did they just completely forget to salt everything???) but that was such a waste of $55 Maybe it'll do fine as a neighborhood eatery but for anyone looking on Yelp for some place new to eat, do not come here for Vietnamese..
