The 16 Best Breakfast Spots In Philly

"Meet the no-bullshit phở-for-breakfast spot of our dreams. At this strip mall spot at 6th and Washington, you sit at a communal table, order, and eat within five minutes. And since they open at 9:30am, you can get this noodle boost every day before noon. Don't take the efficiency as a signal that the food isn't deeply considered. This is the richest beef broth in the city, and every bowl has a generous portion of meat." - candis mclean, alison kessler

Sapphira Cristál's Favorite Places To Eat & Drink In Philly

"“I always get the phở, or I get the vermicelli with pork and shrimp and spring rolls. That's delicious. They also have really great short ribs. The rare brisket. The flank steak with tripe. I actually order extra tripe on the side. I love tripe.” " - candis mclean

We gave this restaurant a try when we were around the area. The restaurant is small, but staffs are friendly and they have great foods there. The restaurant is in a plaza, so it is easy to find the parking slot there. We ordered Hue spicy noodles, Special Pho noodles, broken rice with grilled pork, chicken Pho noodles, and grilled pork with vermicelli. We like Hue spicy noodles and special Pho noodles the most. Give it a try when you are around the area.

Google
Great pho dac biet and com bo luc lac. The pho (no image and different day) was rich, with plenty of beef, noodles, and toppings. The com bo luc lac hit all marks flavor wise. The beef was outstanding, tender, and flavorful. Vegetables, egg, rice, soup, sauce, great. My only gripe is the portion size. For $16-$17, the amount you get is pretty small. But overall, really good food.

I’ve been going here for more than 20 years. It has changed hands to a younger generation but the menu and quality is outstanding. I eat at Vietnamese restaurants all over the country. I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad meal at a Vietnamese restaurant. Many are exceptionally good. This restaurant Pho Ha, for my taste, ranks number 1.

Google
Come here for the Pho, it is Phenomenal! Fresh and tasty with plenty of extras to add in! Add an iced coffee and you will be in heaven. Family members had the sandwiches and enjoyed those too. You don't come here for the atmosphere, go for the food!

Google
Home away from home! I haven’t had such amazing traditional food in so long. I felt like I was in my mom’s kitchen. The food was exceptional. We tried almost everything on the menu …and with each plate it got better and better. I haven’t had best of luck with Vietnamese coffee , but here I felt like I was in Vietnam . I was just here on Sunday and already begging to go back !

Google
I have heard few times this place is best pho place in Chicago... Well its not. It is pretty soild though, nice portion and good flavor. It has more authentic flavor to it, heavier herb taste, more aromatic. Broth was somewhere in the middle, not clean nor not rich enough.

I'm meeting a friend here because he's never had Vietnamese food. I've gone here before and thought it was good. It's a small mom and pop restaurant with a laid-back vibe and nothing to brag about, yet it has everything I need to enjoy my meal. We tried the cha gio tom (001), which is a four-piece shrimp egg roll served with a side of fish sauce. The outside is crispy, but I'm not a fan of the stuffing, which was scarce. My main course I had pho dac biet (202) which was basically a house special. The broth was light and clear, but it had a strong beef flavor; Rice noodles that are firm and chewy. The brisket, tendon, and meatball are all extremely tender. I also ordered banh mi thit nuong (102) to go with my pho. The baguette was well toasted and flaky. The pork is flavorful and has a wonderful char grilled scent. The ingredients are fresh, and it complements the sandwich perfectly. It's an enjoyable comfort food that hits the spot, and I'm pleased to hear my friend liked it; I know he appreciates Vietnamese cuisine after this visit.

Google
This place is a hidden gem, food tastes so authentic and good when I close my eyes I feel like I'm in Saigon. The Pho and the Banh Mi are excellent, when it comes down to it the flavors and recipes used here top notch. Had the Banh Mi today and the bread is out of this world. Freshly baked, crispy on the outside and fluffy within it's just perfect. The bbq pork was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The best part is ending your meal with a fresh Caphe Sua Da... they use a phin filter and high quality beans mixed with the perfect ratio of ice and condensed milk - I would take it over Sbucks any day!

Yelp
My favorite Vietnamese place anywhere. This place hasn't changed much in 10 years inside but that's fine as long as the food is still good. Price has gone up a lot unfortunately but at least it's still pretty good. Meat in the soup had a bit of an off taste like it was in plastic bowl or something but otherwise everything tasted so good and nostalgic. I've been coming here for years and it's still a favorite. Was craving this pork and egg patty plate. Not a fan of the string skin years later (very dry and flavorless and a weird texture) but otherwise love this plate. The pork has so much flavor. Was a bit too fatty this time tho. Love their spring rolls so fresh and has mint so it's refreshing.

Yelp
This creature that works at Pho Ha is fantastic! The foods great and the customer service is very kind , I definitely recommend

Yelp
I have been visiting this restaurant many times in the past. They have many excellent dishes and bowls of noodles. I would recommend you to try them out. Especially phở, bún bò Huế and cơm tấm dishes. Today we decided to go with bánh mì thịt nguội. The restaurant running a special buy 5 and get 1 free. Their bánh mì were the best in the area. However, there is 4% additional charge if you are paying with credit cards.

Skbwjw S.

Yelp
Best Vietnamese restaurant ever I have been to out of IL and FL. Have eaten all over the world and this is one of my top meals. Always get the meat plate or meatball sub. Egg rolls and spring rolls with mint are so good too. Needed more peanut sauce but that's always haha. Extremely fast service today too. Could stand to update the inside but rather they stay in business than spend money on updating bc it's fine as is honestly.

Yelp
I got pho ga and it just was really average. average to sub par, honestly. I also thought adding an egg to it was a little strange. The chicken was brown and white meat. the restaurant is small, but accommodated everyone when i was there. i'm not too familiar with the area, but there were two men screaming at each other and threatening to get into a physical altercation outside. service was also non existent. nobody came around to check on me once. i did not particularly like this meal and feel like there are better options if you drive a little closer to chicago.

Kareivis S.

Yelp
One of my favorite places. I frequently pick up banh mi here, especially the house special.

Starry X.

Yelp
Food is good. I'm not too fond of the 4% charge when using a credit card. They didn't use to do this before COVID. News flash COVID is over, so get rid of this 4% additional charge for using a credit card. Also, 4% is ridiculously high. It is usually like 1 or 2% when businesses want to offset their credit use charges to customers. This additional cost makes me want to stop supporting this business.

Yelp
I ordered Bon bo hue online and god it delivered it was delicious packed with me and I would definitely recommend

Yelp
Overall, the food here is not bad for how fast and cost effective it is. Quality- their pho was a bit watery and didn't taste like pho at most other restaurants. The beef was also a bit dry when it came in. The spring rolls and peanut sauce were fresh and delicious. Probably some of the best I've had at a low cost. Quantity- quite a bit came out. I was definitely full after. Atmosphere- the seats and tables are a bit small. It's a bit cramped in there Service- food came out very fast.

Linh L.

Yelp
Good traditional Vietnamese food. Our go-to's are pho, bun bo hue, and goi cuon. We have been ordering Uber Eats on multiple occasions and decided to come in today, and it was delicious. Pho Ha won't disappoint. The portions are huge. We couldn't finish all the meat in both dishes. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Recently moved from California where pho restaurants were found in abundanceee, I'm talking about multiple Vietnamese restaurants in every plaza/mile radius. Since moving here, it's been hard to find some solid Vietnamese food but Pho Ha was worth the 10 mile drive. Bun Bo hue - 4.5/5 stars Oh man, one sip of the broth and it brought back memories. The broth was delicious and well developed, plenty of meat, and had a mild spice to it. You can ask for sate if you want it spicier, but make sure to add a little at a time because it's easy to go overboard and make it SPICYYY (speaking from experience haha) Banh mi thit nuong - 4/5 Grilled pork sandwich - can't really go wrong. It had a good ratio of meat to veggies, but the sandwich was a little on the skinnier side haha. But this is coming from someone who just eat a lot lol Customer service was great - attentive and kept refilling water. We ordered a ca phe sua da (iced coffee) and it never came until we mentioned it at the register while paying but that's okay. I would have given this place a 5 stars but I feel like we were mischarged somehow..? Two bowls of BBH 12x2 = $24, two banh mi thit nuong 7.25x2 = $14.50, one coffee $3.50 all together = $42 with tax maybe $46 ish, but our total was about $52... They also give a 4% off as incentive if you pay with cash so I'm not sure how our total came out to $52 but oh well. In the end, delicious food and I would come here every week if it wasn't so far. 10/10 recommend

The is a fantastic simple delicious place to eat. Very big portions and flavors. You can't go wrong by coming here. Very simple ambiance with attentive service.

Yelp
Per suggestion from a friend, we came to Pho Ha looking for some Vietnamese food. Let's just say we did not leave disappointed! Started with an order of spring rolls which were fresh and served a tasty peanut sauce. The combination pho with all the fixings were great. Broth was solid and had a good depth of flavor. Noodles were cooked through and didn't clump together. The vermicelli with grilled pork(or possibly chicken can't recall which one) and a fried egg roll was also really good. Lastly, we had ordered a ban mi for the kiddo which he thoroughly enjoyed. Big fan of the bread here, because sometimes you get those shops that serve up that really tough baguette that cuts up the roof of your mouth. But not here! Also we did order an iced coffee from here which was great and definitely kept me up in the evening. Anyways, after seeing some pictures of the bun bo hue, we'll definitely need to make another trip out. 'Til next time, cheers!

Yelp
The food is good here but the place is so dingy. It could use a good scrub down. To me, if the restaurant looks like this to the public, what does the kitchen look like? I will never come back here again.

Yelp
Quick service! Sat down and got the food right away. So impressed. Beef Noodle Soup Egg Rolls Pork Chop
google avatar

Rhonda C.

Yelp
Service was horrible and items were missing like napkins and spoons. Staff was more interested in sitting at a table and talking with customers the taking care of other customers. I am not sure if is was family, but I had to get up to retrieve napkins from another table. The cleanliness is lacking and there was a strong aroma of Fabuloso, not good. Why are they spraying a heavy disinfectant while we are eating? What are they covering up? My pho ga was not good, it was bland and I am not used to chicken skin being included in my soup. When in the area I would not return.

Yelp
Delicious tasting pho! I've gone to a couple places and this is by far the best beef pho I've had

Yelp
This shop was right next to the climbing gym I go to so decided to give it a ago. Couldn't tell from the outside but it was packed inside. I ordered two banh mi to go at the counter. I got the house specials. They made to order so I had to wait a little bit. The sandwiches were as expected. I only wish they were larger or more filled because I ate both sandwiches.

Lang N.

Yelp
Food was. Service was terrible. My friend ordered an ice coffee. it came out like a shaved ice, we came and talk to the cashier, he said " well, that how we make it, you let it melts all the ice and you'll drink it" what kind of service is it. He ordered an ice coffee to drink, not order shaved ice and a little bit of sprinkle coffee, and waited for it to melt? Then the guy started swear at me. Wth? Never come here again.

Yoojin L.

Yelp
My husband and me went to 9am last Sunday. This chicken wings are very addictive taste. Ban xeo is big size Pho is always good

Monica A.

Yelp
I love this place !!!!! The food is authentic and fresh and it is my goto for comfort food. It doesn't matter the season the food is always fresh and on point! Thank you Pho Ha
google avatar

Alison Y.

Yelp
Solid pho joint with clean tasty broth and a tasty Vietnamese iced coffee. I got the combo pho which was a healthy serving though lacking a bit more in the protein department than I'm used to. Nevertheless, it was perfectly filling as is. Their vietnamese iced coffee comes out strong but that's how I like it. Some may find it a bit too sweet, once the ice melts a bit, I found this helped mellow the flavor but the packed punchy flavor of coffee still rang true. The guys running the joint are nice and are quick to respond when you need something. Would definitely come back if I'm craving good pho in the area.

Yelp
Yum! Yum! Hope to have more pho Soon! Thanks! Everyone loves the pho and pork dishes

Yelp
It was my first time with pho and I really enjoyed it! Very fresh add-ins, good flavor, big bowl. This place was packed at lunchtime!

Yelp
This place is amazing! I love little whole in the wall spots, the food is amazing, and the prices are very reasonable. Love it! We had the bubble tea *they were a little watery, but not too bad* the chicken wings, the banh mi and the pho were amazing! Will definitely to be back. UPDATE: Came back in less than 2 weeks, brought my parents this time. Everything was as good or even better than the last time. I think this place is fast becoming my new favorite in the area.

Yelp
If you want some solid Vietnamese food, look no further. I have been searching for a place with good pho because there's none around where I live. A friend recommended this place, and the place I went to for a massage was close to this restaurant. I checked it out immediately after my massage. It was a late afternoon on a Saturday. It was a small place in a plaza and packed with customers. There were so many Vietnamese families and couples. I looked around, and many tables had a bowl of pho. Although I went in to try their pho, I also wanted to try everything else. I ordered spring rolls ($7.00), a small bowl of make-your-own pho with "Tai"-sliced beef ($12), and a banh xeo ($13). I wanted to get a banh mi, but I'm working on budgeting with my food purchase. The food came out quickly, and everything was delicious! The peanut sauce for the spring rolls was a little sweet for my liking, but the fresh and packed spring rolls hit the spot. I am glad they had an option for a smaller pho because it was perfect with everything I ordered. The portion was still big. Banh Xeo was delicious. The biggest banh xeo I've ever seen. It was packed with fresh fillings of different ingredients. I am salivating as I think about it. I wish this place is closer to my home. The total came out to be $43 with the tip. It's cheaper if you pay in cash, but I believe there's an additional charge if you pay with a card. If you're around the area, definitely check it out!

Yelp
Pho ha is one of those restaurants you'd go to when your girlfriend wants Asian food but can't really choose what kind. As that type of girlfriend I'd recommend going here for some really good pho. The restaurant doesn't get too busy and the service is really nice. They check in to make sure you're doing alright as well.

Yelp
It's Friday. Long work day and a chilly night. My wife and I don't want to go out for dinner. After along debate on where to go, I recalled one of my friends saying that Pho Ha is really good. My wife went ahead and ordered: Bun Bo Hue - hot & spicy noodle soup w/ sliced beef Banh Mi Xa Xiu - pork sandwich Goi Cuon - shrimp veggie spring roll Pho Dac Biet - House special beef noodle soup w/ trimmings We paid $30 bucks! The pork sandwich was amazing! I really like the tamarind sauce that came with it. It provide a nice spicy kick. The veggie spring rolls were also really good and were a generous size. They came with, what I tasted was, a peanut sauce of sorts. I had the hot and spicy soup. I was looking forward to Pho and I was a bit disappointed. The soup was good. It actually reminded me of Menudo. It was a bright red broth and had sliced beef, and what resembled tripe. It also had sliced......transparent chewy and gummy protein of sorts. Don't take it the wrong way, I really enjoyed that best to be honest. My wife had a Pho, more of what I was looking for. As I looked over their menu, the quality of food for the prices.......you can't beat it. I actually am looking forward to trying their chicken wings which are said to be tossed in their tamarind sauce. I would actually like to go in and have a meal there since ai like to ask questions when I try new places or food. Highly recommended but the Reviews really backed this place up and made my wife and I believers. The only reason for not giving a 5 star was me expecting Pho. That's it.
google avatar

Ernie H.

Yelp
My favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Why? Let me list the reasons 1. Real Fruit bubble tea with Tapioca 2. Spring Rolls with substance because It comes with a slice of beef 3. Chicken wings in Tamarind sauce Make sure you order the fried ones That's not on the menu. It's zesty crunchy Salty and sour all at the same time. You must try this. 4. The 404 under rice noodles- it's a mix of grilled pork shrimp egg roll greens and bean sprouts which you pour their sauce and enjoy If you're in the area it's a must go!!
google avatar

Simon G.

Yelp
Pho Ha always delivers the tastiest pho and noodles! Had the house special with all the trimmings and the broth had a deep beef broth flavor to it. The hot & spicy rice noodle soup with sliced beef is my favorite. It had a sweetness to it that's probably from a beef & prawn base, and when the flavor pairs with the spiciness, it was magical! The restaurant also had a renovation recently, the place looks much cleaner and comfortable. A great restaurant just upped it game. Also shout out to the server, I got an order wrong, but she changed it immediately for me for free, so that I do not miss the dish I really want!
google avatar

Florence G.

Yelp
Excellent pho. Love the broth which makes or breaks the pho. It was flavorful and not the instant packet kind of flavors. Service was quick and friendly.
google avatar

Josh W.

Yelp
Excellent service, friendly host and hostess! Very informative on menu and good at recommendations if you're not familiar with certain dishes. Spring rolls were packed and very delicious. The pho was a great blend, not too salty or spicy. Little thin on the seafood and meat , but understand why in order to keep the prices reasonable some cuts are necessary. Plenty of veggies and the pho portions are huge, enough to take home and have for lunch the next day. Place has plenty of parking and it may not be noticably, it's right next to the 7-11.
google avatar

Yelp
While I've only been here 2 times I can't wait for the next time I can go back. I got the Bún Bó Huê both times I went simply because I usually want something beefy and spicy. When the pho came out I was shocked at how large the serving size was. They also give you a heaping plate of toppings to allow you to dress your pho however you like. We received bean sprouts, cabbage, and jalapeño for our toppings. The pho had a nice spice and deep flavor. The beef was also very tender and with the other toppings the tenderness balanced the crisp crunchy textures. I really felt like when I got a spoonful of broth, meat and toppings it was the perfect bite. On the side we also ordered their tamarind chicken which was basically fried chicken with a sweet and very slightly spicy tamarind sauce. This chicken was the reason I didn't give 5 stars. On the first few bites this chicken is delicious. However I started noticing little bits of what felt like hair or sticks? It almost seemed like the chicken was freshly butchered and there were still bits of feather stuck in the skin. I tried to continue eating around it but the idea of not knowing what it was kind of freaked me out. I kind of want to try the chicken again to see if it's always like that because the chicken itself was excellently fried, juicy and crispy. I am also a huge fan of tamarind and the sauce was so tasty that I wanted to ask for a bottle of sauce to go. Disappointing but I would give it another chance! Last but not least we tried the Taro and Avocado smoothies with boba. I have other reviews on milk tea/boba places and although this isn't milk tea, these were the best taro and avocado flavored drinks I've had. The taro drink was purple and tasted sweet and creamy. I had not had much taro when I got the smoothie but it still blew me away. It's something that I would have my friends try if I needed an easy and delicious way to introduce them to some new flavors. The avocado was also spot on. It was lightly avocado flavored and sweetened but the avocado didn't taste savory somehow. It felt like a regular delicious smoothie. As for the boba, I know it was cooked well although I don't remember if it was sweetened. Overall I love this place and will not hesitate to go back given the opportunity. I am always recommending it to family and friends and love to hear about other items from the menu that they've ordered.

Yelp
They have the most consistent recipe that slaps every single time. I order their 303 for takeout all the time along with their shrimp spring rolls. They have such a great range of fish options in here which is hard to come by. The crab balls are my favorite! They also give SO MUCH that when I order it for takeout I split it for two meals! They have great service and their staff is super friendly. I highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Mandy P.

Yelp
My husband picked me up a sandwich from here. Solid place for over food. He had the pho and said it was tasty. The bbq pork banh mi was also good. There's not a ton of filling but the pork was flavorful and the pickled daikon complimented the fat well. The bread was fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

Yelp
Good food. Have been visiting for years. Prices have been increasing ...although everywhere prices are going up. I recall being impressed bc of the reasonable prices. Now for two people ..take out is over $50 for what we order. Can't come too often anymore.

Yelp
I've come here a few times for bubble tea (love the green tea with tapioca) but I finally got a chance to try the food! My friends and I stopped by for our hour lunch break. Let's just say we were in a rush (& boy did we make great time! Haha) I know there's only a few people working so they took a while to get to our orders. Luckily we got there before the rush of people came in and they took our order first. The house special báhn mì was really good! We ate all of that in about 5 mins. The sliced beef pho was good as well! It could have used more noodles because I didn't feel that full after half that báhn mì and the small bowl of pho. I would come back though! Probably buy the large bowl and buy more time :p My friend enjoyed her sliced pork over hot noodles, too. The only other downside was that my green tea boba was too powdery. It wasn't mixed as well as usual and ended up being too sweet. Nonetheless, I'll probably still be back for boba and to get the pho or other dishes! Prices are great and you get a good amount of food.

Erdenejargal G.

Yelp
The bread in the bahn mi pairs well with the ingredients, soft crunch and airy bread, this sandwhich is "to die for". As for the pho I'd definitely recommend as coming by a good Vietnamese soup is hard to come by in the suburbs. 10/10 will be coming again
google avatar

Yelp
The pho tasted great and the soup smelled delicious, the eggrolls were so crunchy. This asian restaurant is the best hotspot for pho. I highly recommended this place if you are looking for a good place to eat with your family even though it may take a while.

Yelp
Taste: 4.5 Location: 3 Cleanliness: 4 Ambience: 3 Value: 4.5 Service: 4 OVERALL = 3.83 * Out of a 5-point scale My go-to restaurant for good-yet-affordable food. Their Fried Chicken with Rice is a must-have. I really don't know how they do it - it's simple but it's so good. The accompanying soup is tasty as well. Their Rice Noodles with Grilled Pork (#404) dish is pretty good too. Those are my favorites. The Pho dishes are decent though I've had better ones elsewhere. I'd say I come here maybe once a month on average. It's comfort food.

Yelp
This was my first experience with Pho. It is so good. Their broth is fantastic. The báhn mì are really great as well.

Yelp
Terrible broth and meat stay away from this place. In store looks janky too and kinda gross

Jean S.

Yelp
My friend and I bought ordered number 505. I left the extra meat on the side because they charged us $4 for four tiny slivers of meat. They told us that this was the actual portion of extra meat customers pay for. When my friend went up to pay, all four employees ganged up on her. They told us we have to be charged extra for the small amount of meat regardless of how ridiculously small the portion, and that we did not touch it. They refused to give us a refund and told us we get what we paid for. Worst service given, never going back to this restaurant.

Yelp
Very huge fan of this place that I came here twice in 3 days. At the restaurant, I ordered the house pho and the fried spring rolls. Then I ordered a bahn mi and the pork chop with rice to go. Fried spring rolls are a must have for me as they remind me of home. Not Vietnam, but Dallas, TX where I ate Vietnamese food on a regular. There was one place I could get 4 of these bad boys for a buck. A buck! At Pho Ha, you get 4 rolls for $5 which is crazy expensive. Especially, when you can get one of their bahn mi for pretty much the same price. Expecting it to be super awesome or super huge, I got them anyway but was a little disappointed in how mushy the inside filling was. Skip it. There's way better items on the menu. Their bahn mi sammy, on the other hand, was definitely the best I've had since moving to Chicago. Way better than Saigon Sisters, Ba Le and all the other places downtown. It was simple, good quality ingredients and oozing with flavor. The pho was also really surprising. Although I felt it didn't come with a lot meat, the broth was extremely clean and flavorful. It didn't taste oily at all. But then I had the pork chop with rice and it was easily my favorite out of all the items. Not only was the pork super tender, but even the rice was made very well. There's just something so magical about a piece of pork chop and rice and that fish sauce sugar sauce that goes so well together. And don't forget about the slices of cucumber! Yum!

Yelp
Great place to get a authentic pho. I also ordered the chicken wings that were thrown around in some sauce that were pretty good. The portion sizes were very good. I will definitely will return.

Yelp
After all these years, Pho Ha is still my favorite pho place around. The food is great and the prices are lower than a lot of other restaurants! In addition to great pho, they also have great banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) for about $4.50! They are tasty and convenient to eat on the go. They hold up pretty well and sometimes I take it for lunch the next day. They have about 5 different flavors of bubble tea (avocado, mango, coconut, strawberry and watermelon, ) - avocado being my favorite for $3.75. PHO $8-$9 - Great broth and perfectly cooked noodles. The hot & spicy pho is also a great option to mix it up. The RICE WITH SIZZLING DICED BEEF $11 is awesome. It comes with beef cubes in delicious dark sauce, bell peppers, onion, cucumbers and a side of clear soup. GRILLED PORK TENDERLOIN & SHRIMP EGGROLLS $10 - The meat is tender and has great marinated flavor. The service is pretty fast, but you may have to wait for a table if you come during peak hours. LOCATION: In a strip mall next to 7-11. ....| \ _ , , , - - , , _ , .../ , ` . - ' ` ' . _ \ - ; ; ; , _ ..| , a - ) ) _ . ; . ( ` - ` - ' - ' ' - - - ' ' ( _ / . _ ) - ' ( _ \ _ )
