Pho Hong Phat - Review - Long Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This tiny Vietnamese cafe in Cambodia Town serves absolutely fantastic pho in a simple setting ideal for when you don’t feel like interacting with too many people. The 19 versions of pho here are made with dark rich broth and high-quality meat, and a medium-sized bowl is $6.95." - Brant Cox

19 Epic Sandwiches in Los Angeles

"Long Beach’s Sesame Dinette offers some wonderful and modern takes on Vietnamese food. The pho French dip is made with Persian barbari bread, onion slivers, basil, jalapeno, and thinly sliced beef. Instead of dipping the sandwich into the accompanying broth, spoon it on with care to savor the onion’s crunch and basil’s herbaceousness." - Eater Staff

I got vermicelli with grilled pork which was tasty. My friend got Pho beef combo. I also got iced Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk. You know it’s authentic when your coffee comes with a tiny spoon in the glass cup. Reasonable price and nice service.

Google
First time trying this place and it did not disappoint. We had a chicken pho, rare steak pho, shrimp and pork spring rolls and a side of bread that they recommend for dipping in the pho. It was delicious! The bread tasted like doughnut bread but lighter. I highly recommend!

Google
The broth is clean, with light beefy flavor, and the spices are not overpowering. Its fragrance comes from the fresh green onions and cilantro. The meat and noodles ration is perfect. The herbs condiments are generous amounts and really fresh. The Chinese donuts come hot and fresh. I like to dip mine in the hot broth. Pro tip: Go for the XL bowl if you are hungry! Service is warm, food comes fast. They have good, multiple dining areas. The inside dining and restrooms are clean. I live that they open early at 0800, since I always crave pho for breakfast. Street parking only.

Google
As a Long Beach resident, I’ve been coming here for years. I definitely think it’s one of the most authentic tasting Pho In town. Only open till 5 PM and all they serve is Pho and don’t forget the nice crunchy bread which compliments the pho very well. Prices have definitely gone up, but you still have the option of small, medium or large unlike most places which charge a flat rate of 15+ for a bowl. Service has always been great here no issues so far. Parking can be a bit scarce I usually park at Walgreen. The ambience is pretty simple and mildly loud, depending on the size of your party. You might have to wait for a table or just take whatever’s available. Overall the food and service are worth it while being affordable.

Google
This is the pho spot in Long Beach! When it’s lunch time and you want pho, go here. It’s reliable and the staff is very friendly

Google
I was the first customer, and the broth smelled like wet dog. I had to drown the smell out with Sriracha. I usually don't leave bad reviews, but the $20 a bowl price forced me to. Never again.

Google
I went with my friends for a bite here after a community service event at 10am on a Saturday. The service was fast! As soon as we walked in, we were seated. They took our order right away and the food came out quick. It was so delicious! I ordered the #9 with a diet coke. I will definitely be coming back!

Google
Best pho I have ever eaten make sure to put some of the magic sauce (sits on the table just ask) inside for extra flavor, the spring rolls are so fresh and yummy... also they make what's called a fried bun (not on the menu) amazing a must must try for sure.

Yelp
Pho Hong Phat has a small parking lot behind the restaurant, but only a few spots so it fills up fast. We ended up finding parking on a nearby street. The restaurant is bigger than it seems upon entering, with three distinct dining rooms. The menu is simple, and pho comes in four sizes: small, medium, large, and extra large. Prices are very affordable, from $9-$16. I loved that I could pick a pho with tendon and tripe (my two favorite cuts), though there was no option for a combination of everything. The broth tasted nice and flavorful, and I could really taste the herbs. I loved how hot the broth stayed, even more than halfway through the bowl. The Chinese donuts (油條 in Chinese) represent the Cambodian part of the menu, and were fried fresh with a nice crisp to it. It was the first time in my life having pho with youtiao! We also ordered a bao, but the bread was a bit soggy. The Thai iced tea was sweet and creamy, and I loved the sugar cane juice (not on the menu but advertised on the walls). Overall, a very tasty and affordable meal! The interior is clean and orderly as well, with servers who speak pretty decent English.

Yelp
We love pho! I always order to-go pho and Chinese donuts here. It always seems busy inside, which is a great thing. The meat and noodles are always fresh, making it a reliable choice for a yum meal.

Yelp
The broth is clean and clear, with light beefy flavor. The spices are not overpowering. Its fragrance comes from the fresh green onions and cilantro. Overall, the broth is very well rounded, complex, and authentic. Try adding the Satay sauce to take it to the next level. The meat and rice noodles ratio is generous. The herbs condiments are fresh and generous amounts. The Chinese donuts come hot and fresh. I like to dip mine in the hot broth. Service is good and fast. They have multiple dining areas, and it's clean with simple, homey decor. They are open early at 0800, perfect for those who are craving pho for breakfast like myself. Street parking only.

Yelp
Came in for lunch today over the weekend. Parking here is pretty difficult, they have a lot behind the restaurant but if it's full you would have to park on the street. I found parking a block away on Anaheim and walked over. I haven't been here in years and when I walked in I was surprised by the renovations, it looked very nice and clean. I ordered the pho dac biet which had everything and it was pretty affordable compared to other places. It came piping hot, however the broth tasted very bland and watered down. I usually eat pho as it is, but I find myself having to add hoisin and sriracha to this pho. I also noticed it was missing other meats that you would usually get in a dac biet. Service was okay, I felt like other guests around me had better treatment and I was never checked on. I noticed this restaurant is owned by Cambodians, maybe their Cambodian items on the menu might be better. But for pho, I would prefer Pho 881 or driving to Little Saigon.

Yelp
I got the meat ball pho which is one of my fav dishes, they didn't disappoint. The service is top notch with people asking if they can get more water or other items, which is quite nice, the seating area is clean and organized and the layout is lovely. The broth was lovely, I'm coming here again, and so should you.

Yelp
I came here for the first time with my cousin and our sons, we got the #5 & the egg rolls it was delicious! The lady that helped us (didn't get her name) but she was quick and our food came out very fast and everything was hot just how I like my food. We sat in the front room, I didn't realize there was a back room till people started walking to the back so maybe we'll sit in the back next time we come back.

Yelp
Overall, this is the pho place I keep returning to. The place has been recently renovated so seating is much faster. You can also order take out at the cashier but it's really great dining in. Took a little longer to obtain our food this time around but they were very busy. The meat and noodles portions are average in size. I ordered a large and didn't feel like it was super filling. If you're really hungry, may want to order the extra large. Pricing is very reasonable and this is the only pho location that I know of that serves Chinese donuts. Chinese donuts with pho are such a treat and it's the main reason I keep coming here. I also believe their chili sauce to be the best you can get (it's available in the short jar on most tables, next to the Sriracha and chopsticks).

Yelp
A friend recommended as one of the best Pho places in Long Beach. Very good and would also recommend to others!

Yelp
Off the bat, there is a strong mom & pop ambiance that welcomes and warms your soul as you enter. The most memorable part was the very friendly and accommodating service. Our waiter regularly checked in on us and gave us recommendations on what sauce combinations to use. The pho was very simple and clean, but left us very satisfied with our meal! Also, the price was reasonable for the portions we got.

Yelp
Pho Hong Phat is always one of the cheapest options for pho in Los Angeles, even after inflation. They also have a range of sizes from S to XL. Their mains menu is very standard: pho with different meat toppings and a few other noodle dishes. They also have a big drink menu with uncommon options like soda with raw egg yolk. I ordered that alongside a small bowl and a Chinese donut. Here, the service is really fast. Once you're seated, they're ready to take your order and once you get up to pay, they're ready to prep for the next party. I think it's pho shop basics to have speedy food prep, and they have that down pat, bringing our orders very quickly. The pho tastes very good and the broth is present. There is a good amount of meat. Small size seems good for a kid. Medium will be a normal meal while large and extra large are fit for hungry people. The soda with raw egg yolk was so good. It's creamy, maybe like eggnog, but light and refreshing from the soda.

Yelp
2.5 stars. I don't know what happened to Pho Hong Phat. I have been coming here for decades and last few times, I cannot even finish the noodles. The broth is little on the stinky side and less good beef broth umami that I love Pho for. I was so excited to move back to LA to be able to eat at Pho Hong Phat. My first Pho love. Did I change? I don't think so. Sure I have been FXXXing around all over the world during our long distance relationship. But the problem is, I think you changed. You cannot satisfy me any more....

Collette S.

Yelp
The place is very modern inside. It was not what I was expecting from the outside. The service was quick. People were very friendly. I enjoyed eating what we ordered. It was the pho, spring rolls and shrimp egg rolls.

Yelp
Can't express how happy I am to be back. I was so sad they closed for remodeling and the COVID hit. Pho here is the best, not one of, it is the best. I have been here for at least 20 years now when I was single and now I bring my kids here to know what's good food.
google avatar

Yelp
staff is friendly, restaurant is clean, food is good, price is reasonable, street and back parking.

Yelp
i just found parking space on the side of the road. this restaurant is quite spacious and clean. service is quite fast and staffs are nice. love when they have small portion, seriously it is just my size. the broth for pho is rich and taste is great. they also sell hainan chicken rice and will say recommended. it is so good. price is average and portion is just right!!!
google avatar

Esther C.

Yelp
Self seating. Pay at the counter when you're finished eating. Lots of pho options. Very modern and bright. One should probably not come for dinner as they close at 5pm. Food comes out fast :)
google avatar

Jill M.

Yelp
Street parking. They have multiple dining rooms. Price is very affordable and i like that they have pho sizes (S, M, L, XL) but the pho was okay, nothing special. Meat portions were scarce. Eggroll lacked filling. It did the hangover job, but that's about it.
google avatar

Yelp
This is by far the best Pho in Long Beach. We are not talking about LA or Westminster. We are talking Long Beach. Great friendly service. Tons of regulars and they always give me me Nuc Beo when I ask for it.
google avatar

Yelp
Always the best!!! They are super consistent.. We always get pho tai. Their pork egg rolls are bomb too. They come out piping hot so watch your mouth though! The owners are super sweet and attentive!

Yelp
La Comida es deliciosa, el servicio muy agradable lo recomiendo!!! Uno de mis lugares favoritos

Yelp
This is Long Beach's best pho restaurant. Hands down. They are always consistent with their pho and I've been coming here since high school. They definitely stepped up their game with the interior of their restaurant after the remodel.

Yelp
My boyfriend and his family have been eating here for over 10 years. Today was his birthday. As a first time diner, in my opinion, the pho was okay and nothing special. My boyfriend and his family were very excited to take me for the first time. After we finished lunch we left to go back to the car. My boyfriends dad's van was blocked in by a Tesla and an SUV. My boyfriends mom ran back inside to ask who owned the cars to please move their cars. Some kid that worked there walked outside to move his Tesla with a half assed apology. The other car was the owners. He was very annoyed he had to move his car and pointed at my boyfriends dad who is in a WHEELCHAIR and said 'you can't just get in now?!' because he didn't want to have to move his car. My boyfriends dad replied that he has a ramp that has to come out of the car so he can get in. It was one of the most disgusting moments I've witnessned in a while. We will never eat here again. No one's food is good enough to treat people this way.

Yelp
Definitely my go to Vietnamese spot, I frequent this place probably 2-4x a month, if i'm feeling under the weather then definitely more than 4x. Parking can be tricky because there's really no designated parking and the side street parking can fill out fast especially on a weekend - there's a Walgreens beside it/across the street and thats your best chance of securing a spot. Now for the most important part - I LOVE THEIR PHO! Having lived in HCM for 2 years this is the closest/cleanest broth I have tried in the area, no frills. I usually get #14 which has everything EXCEPT the meatballs. Each order of pho comes with a side plate of basil, sprouts, chili, lemon/lime that you can mix into your broth. My husband loves ordering a side of their bread just to soak up all the delicious goodness. A side of shrimp roll and egg roll also works best (they don't have the best rolls but still great). On warmer days, the vermicelli bowls are your best best, clean, fresh and is loaded with chopped eggrolls, your choice of grilled protein (pork is the best) and peanuts to top it off. Pro tip - DO NOT SLEEP ON THE SATAY SAUCE. I have stopped adding the sriracha and oyster sauce to my pho broth and have instead added heaps of the satay sauce for that added kick and umami flavor. Go to drink is a large Coconut Juice - fresh and doesn't have that sweet syrup that some restaus add to their coconut juice and even comes with a few thick chunks of coconut meat, def a palate cleanser.

Yelp
Very much love the experience. I feel Home Cooking and great service .Definitely cooking traditional family feel. I wish they stayed open later. Going for Bubba is also a hot tip.

Yelp
Old lady at the register was rude and un welcoming towards black customers. Ice tea had no flavor as well

Yelp
love love loveeeee this place, very friendly staff and very attentive to the customers even if they're super packed! food is always delicious, my favorite pho spot to go to. this place is also super affordable & clean! I highly recommend :)

Yelp
Cute little pho spot in Long Beach. One of the cleanest pho places I've ever been to, and the lack of Vietnamese on the menu suggests it's going for a gentrified demographic, but honestly it was pretty solid. The prices are very reasonable and the service was fast, and the guy who's either the owner or manager of the restaurant was friendly and checked in on us constantly to see how we enjoyed the food and even gave us tips on how to make pho tastier haha. I would recommend checking this place out and even if you've never had pho before I'm sure the owner will teach you how to enjoy pho to the max.
google avatar

Molly B.

Yelp
Delicious pho and spring rolls!! I love that you get to pick your size (small, medium, or large) as well as the meat type and combination. They also sell bags of fruit (in wintertime it's persimmons and jackfruit) for stellar prices and have a variety of to-go drinks, sweets, and buns. I definitely recommend trying it out and falling in love for yourself!
google avatar

Gabby J.

Yelp
Food: D-elicious the hot steaming broth with the help of the hot sauces warms your body. I had the chicken pho and I love the thin slices that basically melt in your mouth. Service: Friendly and fast. Price: affordable $ Parking: Street parking ONLY. *Park in the Walgreens lot at your own risk.* Ambiance: clean tables, utensils and all around clean. Everyone minds their business because they're too busy enjoying their pho'. lol In my humble opinion this is the number 1 place for pho in Long Beach.

Peter H.

Yelp
Ordered large seafood pho Portion is unbelievable small compare to others Asked foe cilantro and it's extra charge ?? Amazing Wouldn't recommend

Gina B.

Yelp
Great service, friendly staff, and delicious pho! Especially great w the Chinese donut & condensed milk.

Yelp
Best pho I've ever had. Bigger than I expected. My kids loved it. Very friendly and helpful. Can't stop thinking about going back!

A K.

Yelp
I had heard about this Pho joint for years. Frankly, it was not worth a stop or a thought. We ordered beef pho all around and one Bun. We also ordered the spring rolls and egg rolls. The pho broth was weak, watered down, very skimpy on the meat. This has to be just about the worst pho I ever experienced. Large portions were medium for any other restaurant. The Bun was interesting serve with grilled onions. Egg rolls were lukewarm. Spring rolls uninteresting and served with the wrong sauce. Qualitatively it was lacking. The service was grumpy - but hoped we would get authentic and tasty food. It was just blahhh and bland. The fare not cheap for what we got. I've eaten at dozens of other Vietnamese pho chops and this one is ranked last. If you want good pho stick to Westminster and little Saigon. This place is undeserving of the T-shirts it sells. Another telling observation: few asians eating there. I guess the word is out! Never again for us. There are just too many good pho places. Avoid!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
This was my hands down absolute favorite place for Pho before they went through the remodel. Broth was terrible. Skimpy on meat. So sad they have really gone downhill.

Eden C.

Yelp
Pretty good pho spot with all the menu dishes you would expect. The restaurant has a modern look with big windows and is really nice to sit in. The employees are very kind and friendly.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Yum. We had #8 rare steak and fatty brisket. (Large). I never saw a place w 4 sizes so they need 4 containers. She said regular size was medium but large was perfect for 2 adults and 2 children. #16 meatball noodles Spring rolls with shrimp and pork. Fattest summer rolls I've ever had. Usually I feel like it's a peanut dipping sauce but this was lighter w a side of peanuts. I do like the heavier peanut dipping sauce. Pho was awesome. Best I've had in a while. I loved the fatty brisket so will order extra next time!
google avatar

Jonathan R.

Yelp
Pho hong phat is our local pho go to when we don't feel like tripping down to little Saigon across the OC curtain. It's broth is very tasty and it's a a family business which we are are glad to support. I am a fan of their chicken and the rare beef versions of their pho. They also do Bun which is the noodle "salad" dish, and their goi coan is worth trying as well. Service is solid, and ambiance meets expectations for a small family pho stand.
google avatar

Tina P.

Yelp
Called in for take-out and picked up my order. I did not place my order on delivery service but beware of hidden service fees for To-Go orders! Everything was ready for pick-up when I arrived. But after seeing my receipt, I noticed they charged to-go $0.50 for Each Pho noodles item ordered and top of that they charged a Service Charge (3.99%) added to the total. The cashier didn't even let me know and I wasn't told about the fees over the phone either for pho noodles and service charges being added. Really disappointed about this and will not come back.
google avatar

Nikki M.

Yelp
Best service. Best pho. They apologize for the prices lol but they're not even bad. Treat yourself to shrimp egg rolls, the deep friend ones. So good! And if you time it right, you get fresh made bread. we go at least every other week. But when it's cold even more often.
google avatar

Anthony G.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 11 years and it's still the best around. There's nothing like it in Los Angeles and trust me I've been looking. The broth is fully flavored and well seasoned. I've never had to too salty or lacking in salt like I've seen in countless other places.
google avatar

Sophia P.

Yelp
If your a Pho soup lover this is the place its definitely a must try. I have had from all over and this is the best I've had oh and don't forget to add the magic sauce that's on the table for extra yummy. The spring rolls are so fresh and yummy and they have what they call fried buns (not on the menu so u must ask) So many other choices but those are my favs... It's a cute and quaint place always clean and the workers are so friendly
google avatar

Kat D.

Yelp
My go to spot for pho. I try to come by at least twice a month. The broth is always solid. They give you good amount of noodle. For apps we order the spring rolls and they are so fresh and flavorful. That sauce they serve them with is so good. Add some peanuts and a little sriracha and you're good. I've had many of the pho options and they've all been good. Coconut juice is perfectly sweet and comes with slices of the coconut meat. I love the metal cups they serve the water in, it somehow just makes it taste better. The service is great. Everyone's always friendly. I honestly don't have any complaints about this place. It's always a good time for Pho Hong Phat.

Julissa G.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years! Great quick service and the pho is delicious! 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
This place has the best pho in town hands down been coming here for years and they have yet to fail me

Yelp
How is this place rated so highly?? XL Dac Biet is smaller than regular at most places in Bolsa. The amount of meat is laughable. The broth is diluted and the price is ridiculous. If you are reading this and think this is great pho, you're missing out. I'm not trying to be a snob but I need to leave an honest review. This is at best average pho at high prices!!

Jorge A.

Yelp
The food was good, but not my favorite Phö location. The staff was very nice and accommodating. They strive to get people seated fast and good at it. I dont really like the smell of the restaurant when you walk in.
google avatar

Richard G.

Yelp
Stopped here on recommendation from my GF app. Beginning of meal: only brought it enough bean sprouts and basil for one person but swore it was enough for two, it wasn't. Phó: Ordered a large which seemed fine until I looked at my wife's extra large bowl and realized the amount of meat and noodles is the same. Which to say noticably less than other restaurants we've visited. Flavor was decent. I added the fish sauce for a bit extra flavor. Pork and veg fried eggrolls: again, smaller than I've had in the past at other places. Very crunchy, and savory. Drinks: We ordered fountain drinks. Which leads us to refills. Good luck! Overall, the positive was the flavor. But won't be back.

Candice H.

Yelp
This place is legit! I love how when you order Pho you can choose between small, medium, large or X-Large! It did take a while to make my limeade boba but that was fine with me since I was walking around so it was a good to-go order. The place is small so I suggest coming during the weekday or once they open to find seating.
google avatar

Thien L.

Yelp
Pho is decent. They're friendly, ish. However, the prices are HIGH and the portions are ridiculously SMALL. I ordered an XL bowl but practically received a S-M bowl. I was able to scoop out the entire portion of noodles in 3-4 bites. Barely any meat. No. Thank. You.
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
OMG talk about skimpy, there is 4 sizes on the Pho. S,M,L, and XL. I ordered the (L) and the portion of meat and noodle was more of S elsewhere. I got the combination meat and there was literally count 6 tiny pieces of meat 2 piece of different meat each and when I go to loosen up the noodle I literally picked up entire bowl of noodle with one scoop. the noodle was in ball smaller than a tennis ball that took 4 bites to finish. We had to order side of noodle and the side of noodle was like two bite. So you can pretty tell how small the side portion was. It's was like getting big bowl of broth. Left hungry. This is my 3rd time here and will be my last. The portions keeps getting smaller and smaller to a point that it's seriously laughable!
