The 23 Best Restaurants Near Lake Merritt - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This casual Vietnamese restaurant is one of our go-to spots for great phở—steaming hot bowls are filled to the brim with fragrant soup and bouncy noodles. The fully loaded pho dặc biệt or any of the beef phở options are the way to go. But they also have rice plates with grilled pork and shrimp, plus vermicelli bowls and appetizers like lotus root salad or chicken wings, if you're not in a fill-up-on-soup mood." - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway

King Review - Soho - New York - The Infatuation

"How much you like a restaurant obviously depends heavily on the food. Atmosphere is important as well—but sometimes what matters most is who you’re eating with. And at King, that’s especially the case. On one visit to King, we came with someone we’re going to call a Kind-of-Fancy friend. This friend knows a lot about lighting fixtures, she can parse a wine list and pronounce Aglianico, and she doesn’t mind dropping $90 on a Tuesday night. Then we came back with another friend. He also knows how to order wine without word vomiting on himself—but to happily drop $90 at a restaurant, he needs an obvious F*ck Yes Factor. This friend walked out of our dinner at King saying he probably didn’t need to come back. We get it. King is across the street from Charlie Bird, and with its location and daily-changing, hyper-seasonal menu, you expect it to feel just as cool as its neighbor. It doesn’t. King is much more formal: There are white tablecloths, the playlist is barely audible, the menu is short, the crowd swings mature, and the steak is called “onglet.” None of these things are bad, but they do get in the way of the F*ck Yes Factor. It is, however, definitely there—you just have to look a little closer. Once you accept that King isn’t quite what you expected, you settle in. You get ordering help from a highly charming, not-at-all pretentious server and drink a cocktail that tastes like a gummy bear but somehow isn’t too sweet. You order the onglet, and it turns out to be one of the best steaks you’ve had in a while. And everything else you eat (like Malfatti pasta stuffed with butter and sage) is delicious too. So will you like King? If you’re with a Kind-of-Fancy friend or some Kind-of-Fancy parents, we’re pretty sure you will. Alternatively, take a page from the guy who sat next to us at a two-top solo. Sometimes you just need to experience a place by yourself. The menu at King changes daily, but here are some dishes we’ve enjoyed this restaurant. Food Rundown Cracker Crisps Every meal at King begins with a fancy, complimentary bread basket. The bread is thin and crispy, so we refer to it as “cracker crisps.” (The restaurant does not.) Malfatti Big dough pillows stuffed with cheese and sage. Our only complaint is that you only get four with each order. Chargrilled Onglet As far as we’ve seen, this is one item that stays on the menu, and there’s a reason why: it’s excellent. Several large pieces of steak arrive on top of some sort of vegetable bed (we’ve had this with chickpeas, as well as spinach and speck). There’s enough here that you could share it—but you probably won’t want to. Roasted Halibut If you’re the kind of person who gets excited about a “nice piece of fish,” you’ll be happy at King. The halibut we tried came with beans and greens, and it was about as exceptional as simply-executed fish can be. Rosemary Potatoes You can always split an entree and get a couple sides. (We haven’t met a vegetable we didn’t love here.) These potatoes came swimming in oil and rosemary, which is our preferred way of eating pretty much anything. Chocolate & Walnut Tart Nuts + chocolate = good times. But we didn't need to tell you that. This is a solid and not-too-sweet way to end your meal here." - Katherine Lewin

*2/14/2024 The portion size was generous, but unfortunately, the soup base was overwhelmingly salty. We ended up guzzling water just to quench our thirst after eating it 7/7/2023 During my visit to Pho King in Oakland, I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, Spring Rolls, and Egg Rolls. The Bun Bo Hue consisted of Hot & Spicy Soup with Beef, Pork Blood, Pork Cake, and Vermicelli. Overall, the food tasted okay. The Bun Bo Hue had a decent flavor, although it didn't particularly stand out. The soup had a good level of spiciness, and the inclusion of beef, pork blood, and pork cake added some variety to the dish. However, I found the taste to be average, without any exceptional elements. Regarding the Spring Rolls and Egg Rolls, they were satisfactory, but they didn't leave a lasting impression. The flavors were acceptable, but I felt that they could have been more flavorful and distinctive. In summary, the food at Pho King was decent and tasted okay. While nothing was particularly outstanding, it wasn't disappointing either. It would be great if they could focus on enhancing the flavors to make the dishes more memorable.

It was my first experience at this location. The environment made us feel comfortable. However, there were smokers nearby and I kept smelling the smoke which was annoying. We sat outside and were greeted promptly. Me and my friend both ordered the Bun Bo Hue (spicy noodle soup +). We had trouble communicating with the waiter. I requested no blood cubes in my soup but I got it anyway. I asked for my bean sprouts to be blanched but they were not..... Nonetheless the staff was friendly. I was disappointed with my order. My noodles were these thick slippery rice noodles instead of the usual vermicelli. The meat and the taste was just alright. I do want to come back and try other items on the menu, but I won't be ordering this Bun Bo Hue again.

Google
A great spot to get a quick bite to eat that is t too expensive as well. They have good portion sizes and the broth in the soups in not bad, a little oily but not bad at all. I like the option that they have egg noodles, and i would like a little more meat but that’s just preference. If you haven’t tried this place give it a go.

Google
This restaurant has the best bun boe hue, Vietnamese spicy lemon grass noodle soap in Oakland area. The other place is also good is in San Jose. Must try, I always ordered xl bowl for $16.99

Found this place on the way to Berkeley to drop off my daughter. The price is cheaper compared to Irvine, and the portion is very generous. But the flavor is average.

We stopped by this place for lunch today and got lucky to beat the rush! Excellent food with large porition and clean environment. We sat outside in the covered patio. I had Vermicelli with Fried Shimp wihch tasted great with fresh ingrediantes. Others had Pho which was also well recieved. Would recommend the place for quick lunch. There is also ample parking around the resturant.

Google
paid $8 for the tiniest Vietnamese coffee, which is filled halfway with ice. Last time they charged me $5 so they’re just changing the prices on a whim. The Vietnamese coffee next door at tasty bowl is a better price and size.

I'm Mexican and not too snobby about Pho. I find it all amazing and am never disappointed by eating a bowl of Pho. I enjoyed the beef pho, but it wasn't the best ever. Still yummy.

Yelp
My go-to pho spot in Oakland. I always come here for lunch whether that is to eat there or to go. However, I must say Pho is always better eating there than take out! Pho dac diet for ever!

Yelp
This place is a typical pho spot with good options. They're right next to a grocery store and a few other food and boba spots but there's plenty of parking in the lot. They have a decent sized indoor seating and a couple of spots outdoor, just be careful when you leave because it's a cars blind spot as they drive by. Spring rolls: a refreshing appetizer that comes with the traditional peanut dipping sauce. If you have a peanut allergy, let them know, no sauce. The rest of the spring roll is fine with both shrimp and pork in it. It says 4 rolls but it's really only 2 cut in half. Pho (any): it's a decent pho for its price. It's on the cheaper side which I like and they do have a small option which is rare to find nowadays. It's your average pho bowl with tender meat. Their broth was a little bit bland but that might have just been me. Dry Noodles: I usually get this when I'm not in the mood for pho and it's my favorite here. The soup comes on the side and it's a bit more fish saucy and full of flavor. The noodles are vermicelli with some squid, shrimp, fish balls, and pork meat bits. It's topped with green onion, cilantro, bean sprouts and crispy dry garlic. On the side is a hoisin sauce type situation where you mix or don't depending on your preference, I love it with it. Mix well and enjoy. You pay at the front when you're ready. Just give them your table number. Everyone is really nice and I do recommend coming here for your pho needs.

Yelp
Date: 1/27/2024 Time: 1:45 PM 64° Partly cloudy My siblings and I are doing some cleaning of a home in the area. We need to take a lunch break. This restaurant is within walking distance from said home. It's my first time here, so I don't know what to expect. Upon arriving we (6 of us) are seated right away. Service is quick. The employees here are attentive. The waitress asks us if we want to sit comfortably at another table for eight people. Yes! Upon perusing the menu, I know what I want for lunch - my usual at any Vietnamese restaurant. I need to try other dishes, but I just can't stay away from #21 which is the bún thit nuóng cha giò (grilled pork and egg roll with vermicelli). Choice of beverage is fresh lemonade. My lunch was on point - quite enjoyable. The fresh lemonade is tart and refreshing. I should have asked if they serve iced tea. I could have had an Arnie Palmer. LOL The restaurant has indoor and outdoor dining. The interior walls of the restaurant are adorned with beautiful artwork. I would not mind returning to try other items on their menu.

Yelp
Been here a couple times and the food has been great both times. Love their pho. Service is good and ambiance is like a typical pho spot.

Yelp
I always come to this spot whenever I'm in Oakland! They have a variety of options while still providing authentic Pho/Vietnamese dishes. I'd always get rare steak pho and Chinese donuts which I thought was rarity to find in a lot of pho restaurants now. The workers were always super friendly and quick with the service and there was lots of space to sit while listening to music and viewing the art work around the restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
With so many Vietnamese restaurants in the Bay Area how do you find the best? Pho King definitely hits the spot and makes the mark. The food is delivered quickly, hot and fresh. The bowl of pho was a good ratio of noodles to meat. The spring roll was a bit pricey ($9) but had fresh pork and shrimp in it. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Surprisingly so delicious!!! Humble restaurant with awesome food. I exercised in the morning so I wanted something filling but not too heavy for lunch. THIS PLACE HIT THE SPOT. I ordered #36 (Bún Bò Nuong Vi, Cha Giò) which was Grilled Beef, Egg Roll with Vermicelli. IT WAS SOOO GOOD. The combination of everything was incredibly tasty! The beef was seasoned well, flavorful, tender, and not dry. The eggroll was fried to perfection! All the vegetables were fresh. And THAT SAUCE! The perfect compliment to the food. Truly enjoyed making every bite different (some with noodle, some with spicy sauce, etc). An addicting meal! I highly recommend #36!

Yelp
Last time I dined here it was for lunch, pre pandemic, and much cheaper. Pho bowls are now $12.50, $13.50, and $14.50. Around $4 more per bowl size than before. The restaurant is cleaner and more organized than what I remembered. Liked the Pho, Bun, and Egg Rolls which were smaller but crunchier and packed solid with filling. All were tasty! Sketchy parking lot, don't leave valuables in the car.

Yelp
Good pho, good taste of the soup. There are a lot of variety to choose. I really like the beef pho!

Yelp
Service was swift but the shredded pork was just a few tiny bits. Fortunately for them I was very hungry but the purposeful false advertising will prevent me from returning. Too bad. Oakland's Asian cuisine continues to disappoint.

Yelp
Been meaning to check out Pho King for a while. I finally had a chance recently and it was okay but not amazing. I came for an early dinner around 4:30 and it was pretty empty. They have both outdoor and indoor seating, but since it was a bit chilly out, we opted to sit inside. There's plenty of seating both inside and outside. The menu is pretty large with all of your standard Vietnamese offerings: various appetizers, pho and other noodle soups, vermicelli bowls, and a ton of rice dishes. I was starving, so I ordered A13 thit cuon (grilled pork roll) for $9.50 as well as a large bowl of the #5 pho with eye of round steak, well done flank, and tendon ($13.50). The grilled pork roll was delicious, though I found the grilled pork a bit tough to chew. For the pho, the broth was very flavorful. However, I wasn't impressed with the amount of tendon I got (2 tiny pieces), and the fact that they were still hard to chew. Good tendon should be melt in your mouth soft, and that wasn't the case here. Tendon is my favorite meat in pho, so I was disappointed in my bowl.

Yelp
Food: 4.5/5 Service: 4/5 Price: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 TL;DR: A solid place for Vietnamese food in Oakland. There is also a parking lot in front for easy parking. They have everything from pho to vermicelli bowls to rice plates. They also had a large variety of drinks. Pho: 4/5; A solid bowl of pho with good flavor and all the expected toppings (bean sprouts, basil, lime, etc.). It will satisfy any craving of pho that you might have. The broth could be better, but for the price, this is a solid dish Grilled Pork Vermicelli: 4.5/5; Everything in the bowl is really good, from the pork to the egg rolls to the fish sauce. I had a craving for this dish and it hit the spot. This is a wonderful, convenient spot for a large variety of Vietnamese food. It has a lot of seating, so it is also good for larger groups. The service is efficient and the food comes out fast. The ambiance is a typical Vietnamese restaurant with many groups of people chatting away enjoying wonderful food. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The food does the job. The service is friendly. The ambiance is very casual. Would recommend to get your fix when pho is needed.

Yelp
Solid place to get Vietnamese food. Been here with friends and family. Perfect place to eat when it's cold outside (but also just as good on a summer day). Staff is friendly and there is plenty of seating, both indoors and outdoors. Recommend to anyone who is in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Solid Vietnamese food in Oakland. The pho soup is tasty and the noodles and meat are pretty standard. Pork chop is flavorful and comes with a side of soup along with some pickled veggies. Egg rolls were super fresh and crispy when they came out. I'm only not giving this a 5/5 because I've been to Vietnam and have had the best of the best Vietnamese food there but this is again pretty solid. Service is excellent. Their staff is friendly and attentive! Before the pandemic, it was always a super long wait but now I was able to walk up without waiting. Ambiance is clean and they have both outdoor and indoor seating. Pretty standard. Lots of tables!

Yelp
Awesome little spot right by the lake! I always recommend folks check this place out if they're looking for authentic tasting Vietnamese food that doesn't break the bank. I find that most places in the bay charge upwards of 18+ for a simple bowl of pho, but it's not the case here and I think the portion sizes are quite nice, too. As for my order, I usually go with the pho dac biet, but if i'm wanting to be a little adventurous I'll get the bun bo hue or Bún Thịt Nướng -- these are really good dishes to get if you're looking to venture out of the typical pho. Think of bun bo hue as pho's spicy older sister and bun thit noung as pho without the soup + a lot more veggies and a protein of your choice. I will also say i'm verrrry big on broth and if it don't taste right, i'm immediately turned off (lol) but with the pho here, it has the perfect amount of cinnamon and ginger. I also like the fact that they have a bunch of different dessert here, too. I've had my eye on the che bau mau (three color dessert) for quite some time now and will definitely get it on my next visit. Also, huge props for them having a huge lot w/ free parking!
google avatar

Yelp
Food wise, this place does great tasting pho and rolls. Sadly, I have a great disdain for places that make up the rules as they go. Another pet-peeve-- inconsistency. I've been here a lot over the years as I live in the neighborhood and pho is a definite go-to for me. I usually order the #10 XL size which comes with flank steak, well done brisket, and tendon. I get this and the fried rolls every time. The reason why I use to love this place was a good amount of meat and especially tendon! That's my jam! The XL bowl usually came with AT LEAST 3 good sized pieces. Tonight, there was 1 small ass booger floating around. I asked the server, are there supposed to be more pieces? She talks to the ppl at the counter and kitchen and reports back, "no, it's always been 1 piece." I told her every time I come I get the same thing, how is it always 1 piece? I also asked her for the regular, large, XL sizes, how many pieces of tendon are in each... "all of them, 1 piece." Huh... the logic is interesting, and it's interesting seeing as the last other times I've had much more than 1 piece of tendon (bc I assure you, if it was "just 1 piece" I would've stopped coming) (also, my Mom and I shared a regular size once, and we both got to eat 1 piece...so there was 2 in the regular size!)!!! She then says, oh you know, last time you came, someone probably made a mistake on your order and put more pieces. You know, because it was busy. I told her again, the last few times, it has been more than 1 piece of tendon in an XL order. I know I'm going on and on about tendon, but places that make up the rules as they go and then try to tell me some bs story really leave a shit taste in my mouth. If you ran out or whatever the issue is, please, JUST BE HONEST!!! I love supporting mom and pop, Asian businesses, and it looks like I'll be supporting a different one from here on out. Sad bc I used to love this spot, but being lied to is just unacceptable. Please be consistent with your food!!! Please be honest!!! Stop being shady!!!

Yelp
I come here whenever I crave Vietnamese. My friend who grew up in Vietnam says this is her favorite spot. You know if it's recommended by somebody who grew up there, that it's really good. The service is always so fast and the portions are huge and the prices can't be beat. So much seating too and I've always been able to be seated even at busy times. Love pho king.

Yelp
Mì Quảng - Quảng Noodles is the best. I am try so many places, just here I liked. 10 .
google avatar

Gin S.

Yelp
If you like beef noodle soup, this is one of the places to go. Unfortunatey, I do not eat beef and ordered their seafood noodle soup and their broth had no flavor. There are two other noodle places near by with better flavor if you don't eat beef.
google avatar

Jason A.

Yelp
Delicious spot to go to me and my coworkers love going here on a rainy day or even like a cold winter day I think what you're looking at here is about 15 bucks and I always take some home with me. I believe this is the one that has like three different meats like a meatball and some other stuff in it but yes I do love this one. The service is always good. It's super fast and never disappointed.
google avatar

Richard R.

Yelp
Best pho spot in Oakland, hands down. Big portions, you can order all your fixings on the side. Fast and prompt service. Tables spaced far apart, not humid and stinky like a lot of pho places. This the go to spot pho' sho.

Yelp
We went in as party of 3 around 4pm. Not very crowded so they served food fast within 10 mins. I knew they were famous for bun bo hue, mi quang but I have tried years ago so now I wanted something new. The bun mam was not good like I expected. It has 3-4 pieces of meat, 2 shrimps, 1-2 pieces of frozen squid, and 1 pieces of blood sausage which very pungent taste of smell that I could not eat. Also, it kind of salty. 2/5 So far, the price was good/ affordable, friendly staff but quality for bun mam was not so much.
google avatar

Crystal G.

Yelp
Very fast service, friendly, and delicious food. Everything we ordered came out hot and correct. Did not want to sit outside because of the flies, but the inside was nice and clean.

Yelp
I come here fairly regularly since the prices are great for the amount and quality of food you get. This local Viet spot is usually filled with people but the wait is never more than 10 minutes. It's a casual restaurant and the service is quick. I've tried the Hu Tieu with pho noodles, which had ample seafood (shrimp, squid, fish balls) and a flavorful broth. The bun rieu is also pretty good though I prefer my broth to be more tomato-y. Spring rolls are tasty with a really good peanut sauce. My family also gets the beef pho, which has a lot of meat and flavor to the broth. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're craving yummy Viet food on a budget!
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
Recently tried their Hu Tieu to-go, which is a seafood noodle soup. I went with clear noodles, which were al dente. I loved the soup. I usually go for a bun bo hue or pho tai, but I'm glad I tried a new dish this time. Loved the soup, would definitely get it again!

Yelp
I recently visited Pho King in Oakland and ordered their combination pho. While the service was great, I must say that the spices in the dish were a bit overwhelming for my taste. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant, and the staff was friendly and attentive. They promptly took my order and brought out the food in a reasonable amount of time. I appreciate the excellent service they provided throughout my visit. However, when I took my first sip of the combination pho, I found the spices to be quite overpowering. It seemed like they had added an extra kick to the broth, which made it difficult for me to fully enjoy the other flavors in the dish. While some people may enjoy a bolder flavor profile, I personally prefer a more balanced and subtle combination of spices. On the positive side, the pho still had a good variety of meats and toppings. The ingredients were fresh, and the portion size was generous. The noodles had a nice texture, and the garnishes provided a refreshing contrast to the richness of the broth. It's evident that the kitchen puts effort into their dishes. Although the spices were a bit excessive for my liking, taste preferences can vary greatly, and others might appreciate the boldness. If you enjoy strong and intense flavors, Pho King might be the perfect place for you. However, if you prefer a milder and more harmonious taste, I would suggest asking the staff to adjust the spices to your preference. Overall, Pho King in Oakland offers friendly service and decent pho options. While the combination pho might be too spicy for some, it's worth a try if you're a fan of bold flavors.

Yelp
Love!! Super amazing dishes and I love everything about their workers as well. It's very clear how much this business truly cares about their customers.

Yelp
Came here after a 5k race to get brunch with a big group of people. We ordered different pho, rice dish, vermicelli, and a bunch of spring and summer rolls. I got #13 for small and it's pretty good, especially on a cold and rainy day. The service was also nice, especially if you have people in your group who can speak Vietnamese. I also appreciate its spaciousness and the parking spots in front of the restaurant!

Yelp
We ordered X-large bun buo hue, A7 (medium rare calf with house special sauce), and egg roll. Bun buo hue broth was delicious and it had plenty of meat. Make sure you use the sauce available at the table (not sure what it's called but it looks like a chili sauce!). Only thing I would have liked is for the broth to be hotter! It was lukewarm but the jalapeno I ate pretty much numbed my tongue a bit so I did not mind. We ordered another order to bring home! When we ordered the medium rare calf, the waiter double checked with us because he said it is fishy. We wanted to try it anyway and it was pretty good. However, the sauce is fishy but I dipped a little bit of it with the meat. Make sure you don't dunk your entire piece of meat in there if you don't prefer the sauce taste! It had mint and bean sprouts mixed with it so it was nice and crunchy too. A great appetizer! Glad we tried it! The egg roll was good but it was pretty small. I wish they gave us more given the price and how small the egg rolls were. I think they are hand made here but may be wrong. The vietnamese coffee with condensed milk is strong but delicious! I couldn't finish mine so took it home but it will keep me energized for the day. The waiter was extremely busy but everywhere at the same time. He is super dedicated to his job from my observations. He asked how the medium rare calf was at the end of our meal, which we appreciated him asking. There was a cute old man bussing all the tables and it just added to ambience of this place. Very home-like feeling. When you pay, they give you the check and then you bring it up to pay at the counter. There was sign saying if you want sauce to go it is 50 cents. Bathroom is super clean! Plenty of parking! Nice staff and great food. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
I've been coming here for dine-in & take-out for over 5 years, there are some great pho restaurants in Oakland and this is one of the more consistent places. Take out pho with noodles uncooked is my jam, I take it home and heat everything up in a pot and enjoy it on days where the fam doesn't feel like going out.

Yelp
New and much nicer location for Pho King. Lots of parking out front and room inside a clean restaurant. The food is reliable. We had #8 and #16 pho along with the full spread appetizer, which I highly recommend. Food came out quickly.

Yelp
Pho King near Lake Merrit This was a happy accident. I didn't know there were two Pho King locations. This place is huge and spacious, plus the bathroom is lovely and super clean, and they have indoor and outdoor dining. I went on a Tuesday afternoon. It wasn't that busy; I sat outside because it was warm when I went. I had Bun Cha Ha Noi at both locations. The one in Little Saigon is too sweet, but Pho King Lake Merritt is so good that the meat is saucy and yummy without being too sweet. I also ordered Thai tea, and it was good. The bathroom is super clean. Great service. I will come back to try the Bun Bo Hue. Pho King near Lake Merritt has moved to the top of my Vietnamese restaurant list. T

Parking - Okay In a small plaza so there's parking in front, but it gets filled up pretty quickly Wait time, Price, Service- Great Even if busy, very efficient and will seat you as fast as possible. Big indoor space and now has outdoor seating in the front. Everything is reasonably priced and can add things for extra $ if you want Food quality - Good Lots of options to choose from (beef pho, vermicelli, rice, appetizers, and more). Bun Bo hue is more on the spicier side. Seems like they also have another location on International!

Yelp
A true oakland local favorite spot for yummy Vietnamese food! Not pictured is their combination pho & bun Bo hue in the largest size they have (XL) which was a fantastic price - under $18 per XL bowl! My parents got an assortment of items that are pictured, and they enjoyed their food too. We sat and ate everything within 30 minutes, so service is fast and food is hot! Everything is nice and clean and you can tell they get lots of foot traffic as many people came through while we ate

Yelp
After finding my favorite spot in Oakland for pho, I realized Pho King is average/decent. It is at convenient location because there is a parking lot & the restaurant is large enough to host bigger crowds (especially on weekends). There's a lot of variety in their menu but the beef pho and bon bo hue soups could definitely have more depth & stronger flavor.

Yelp
Wednesdate had the husband and I craving pho for dinner, so we gave Pho King near Lake Merritt a try. Very happy with that decision. We still aren't comfortable eating inside yet, so we took out pho to go (although they do have an outside parklet if you want to eat outside there). We both got the Phở Dặc Biệt (beef pho with flank, brisket, rare beef, tendon, meatballs, and tripe). These are XL soups with all the toppings included. When we got home, we found the still-hot soup broth in plastic quart deli containers that were also bagged for protection against spillage. The vermicelli noodles were in separate containers with the meats and sliced onions. Yet another small plastic bag were the toppings (sprouts, basil, cilantro, and lime wedges). The restaurant also included chopsticks, a plastic soup spoon, and both hoisin and sriracha sauces. After assembly in a bowl, I paused to taste the broth unadulterated before adding sauces. The broth was clean, rich, and deep from what was certainly a long cooking process. It smelled of so many warm spices like star anise and coriander and maybe Chinese Five Spice. I INHALED this massive bowl of soup! Is it good manners in Vietnam to pick up your soup bowl and slurp up every drop? Because if so then I've got hella manners! Make Pho King an addition to your semi-weekly dining choices.

Yelp
The name of this restaurant is easily a 5/5. With that said, the food and value decent. Due to covid, the cost of many places went up by a lot, but this place seems to have retained more of its value than other places until recently. I think they moved the price back up within the last few months. Overall, I'd give it a 3.5, but I guess I rounded up because we were quick to be seated and the food was quick to be made. The food itself was average for a pho place in this town.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday night and there was plenty of outdoor seating. The menu has a lot of different options so theres many things to try! Bun Bo Hue (4/5): Solid bun bo hue where the noodles are cooked just right and the broth is sure to warm you up. The meat to noodle ratio was good and I still had some meat left after eating all my noodles! The pork blood is my favorite. The broth could have been stronger in flavor. It's not the best bun bo hue I've ever had but this one is certainly up there. The servers here are very nice and they get your food out very quickly. I've been here multiple times with friends and family and each time has been a good experience.

Yelp
Good authentic Vietnamese food! Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Called for a pick up order at noon on a weekday and was quoted 10 minutes. The staff was kind and attentive. Only con is that I wish the pho I ordered had more meat with it. A huge container of brother with 5 thin slices of meat is absolutely nothing.

Yelp
Delicious, clean, and kind service! The pho was really good even to go. The area was spacious and it felt very clean which is a big plus for authentic pho. Will be coming back!

Yelp
Had Pho togo, It was so good! Loved this place. They made it spicy. I did have it at work, so I did not have a bowl to put all the ingredients in there, but it. worked out. Such a good Pho for a cold day!

Yelp
With the weather in the Bay Area dipping in to high 30's to 40's, pho is high on the list of things to eat. Oakland has no shortage of pho spots, but with inflation, the sticker shock of how much a bowl of pho is surprisingly. But have no fear. Bang for buck, Pho King serves a solid bowl of pho for a reasonable price. This was my first time at their new location. Pho King's new location is better in every way possible. Lots of parking. Lots of dining area both outdoor and indoor. More modern interior. That being said, we ordered: Egg Rolls: they serve little bite sized fried egg rolls. I thought they were tasty with the fish sauce with a little lettuce, carrot, and daikon. Large number 9: the broth was good. Noodles were a little softer than prefer. The meat was a decent amount. Food was solid, though I've had better. Service was decent. Convenience and price-wise, Pho King fulfills pho cravings.

Yelp
Oakland, you don't know how lucky you are to have Pho King!! I found Pho King through Yelp, when I searched for Vietnamese food near Kaiser Oakland. I bought takeout here twice after driving my dad to Kaiser Oakland. I bought an extra large beef stew noodles soup #43 to share with my mom the first day. I felt like I hit jackpot cause some restaurants' beef stew is not tender enough in SF. The soup was so delicious that I even drank a bowl of it, because it's isn't too salty or oily. So I came back the next day and ordered #13 pho for my dad and mom to share. The extra large size for around $16-17 was enough to feed two people. When my dad is fully recover, he can probably eat XL by himself though. My dad raved how the #13 pho soup is authentic and better than any he had in San Francisco. I agree with him. If you don't like pho, then try the beef stew noodles soup. That stew soup was amazing!! The beef was tender and portion size was good, although we only got 2 pieces of fat soft tendon pieces so it's mainly regular beef pieces. The restaurant is also huge with both indoor and outdoor seating that can hold a large group, and a free parking lot. Wow, I wish San Francisco parking is free!

Yelp
When I want a quick bowl of pho, this is where i usually go. Service is quick, although after your order is taken and you are served, no one will be by to check on you. Food is good and consistent. After you order, your hot bowl of pho will be out at your table in no time. Parking is really easy right out front in the lot. Just make sure you are walking into the correct restaurant. I made that mistake once and ended up next door bewildered why they moved the register and how different the place and menus looked. The exterior looks the same so I walked into the noodle house next door!

Yelp
This year's #ThankYouThursday review goes to Pho King for its Pho-nomenal Pho.  I never thought I would use that word to describe pho or be that punny.  It has been years since my parents had pho and due to the pandemic, takeout is their preferred method of outside food these days.  I love how they packaged all the ingredients with care (meats and noodles in a plastic container, hot soup in a separate soup container, and your herbs, bean sprouts, and jalapeno in a sandwich baggie). The pho is still perfectly chewy once you add to the hot soup which is flavorful but never oily and their tendons are soft and tender. Yes, there are places where you have to skim the fat/oil yourself if you don't want that layer of oil on top. It is housed in the old Merritt Bakery which after the fire, the space has been split among 4 businesses and is close to my parents house. With colder weather upon us and Harvey's review, I knew we had to pickup 4 XL for our dinner after taking my parents for their flu shot at Walgreens just down the block. They enjoyed it so much, it was my dad's lunch choice after his booster 3 weeks later. Thank you Pho King for already becoming a sort of comfort food for them. I have a feeling another visit will be up soon after my mom's booster.

Yelp
Solid place! BBH flavor is not too sweet or salty but could be spicier in my opinion. Mi Quang was also good but the portion is REALLY small for the price. I saw a lot of complaints on Yelp about the menu prices being misleading, but they've seemed to fix that and we paid what we saw.

Yelp
Delightful Delicious Damn good... the 3'D club!!! The pictures don't lie! The food I had was fresh tasty and light in flavor. Even the water was filtered and crisp in taste. No dish water taste here!! Even the art was nicely done and colorful... I really liked it. I will be back again and again whenever I have to go to the oakland airport!!!
