The 23 Best Restaurants Near Lake Merritt - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This casual Vietnamese restaurant is one of our go-to spots for great phở—steaming hot bowls are filled to the brim with fragrant soup and bouncy noodles. The fully loaded pho dặc biệt or any of the beef phở options are the way to go. But they also have rice plates with grilled pork and shrimp, plus vermicelli bowls and appetizers like lotus root salad or chicken wings, if you're not in a fill-up-on-soup mood." - julia chen 1, lani conway

The Best Vietnamese Restaurants in Oakland | Eater SF

"Pho King recently moved into a bigger space closer to the lake, and it’s as bustling as ever. It’s a favorite spot for pho but perhaps even more so for bun bo Hue, the spicy beef noodle soup teeming with lemongrass." - Janelle Bitker

Vietnamese-American vegetarian here. We ordered the pho tai bo vien (for my non-vegetarian partner) and mi quang chay. Delicious! Great service, generous portions and fair prices. We'll be back 😄

There are two Pho King restaurants within a few blocks of each other and of them, I was pleasantly surprised at just how different their offerings were. Here at the one near Clinton Park, I tried their Pho Dac Biet and BBH. The broth for the pho was light and well-complimented once fully garnished. I found that the further into my bowl I worked, the more complex the flavors became. It has a nice mouth feel with plenty of fatty oils sitting atop the bowl. Very delicious. BBH was really authentic as well, with pork trotter, blood cubes... these items often get missed but are important elements of the dish! Happy they were included here. The portions were generous, and I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, seemed pretty neighborhood driven and the service was friendly. Definitely will be back.

Ordered to-go 2 Bún Thịt Nướng and 1 spring roll for a total of $46.58. Based on the prices shown on the website, the total seemed higher than expected. I called and was told Bún Thịt Nướng is $17.90, which did not match the online menu price at the time. Sharing this so customers can double-check pricing before paying.

The soup is delicious all the way through, with the oil slick keeping it hot. All the customers and staff were Vietnamese. You can taste the real taste here.

Ordered chicken pho to go. Garnishes were not properly cleaned. Not much meat. Broth was good though. Iced coffee was terrible - couldn’t drink. In Oakland, man Hanoi is much better.

My parents go regularly to this restaurant for breakfast, and every time I’ve been available I also go with them. Their pho broth is delicious without anything added, and they give you a healthy side of greens to make the dish even better. My dad religiously gets the bun bo hue and nothing else. The staff are very nice and service quick. Highly recommend!
