Hot San Diego Restaurant Openings You May Have Missed, May 2025 | Eater San Diego

"Opening in mid-June, this Vietnamese restaurant features an open-concept grill center where meats are made to order—a tradition commonly found in Vietnam—and includes a 24-hour marinated rack of ribs roasting in a customized rotisserie. Pho noodles will be made with rice flour each morning, and com tam (a broken rice plate with grilled pork chops and steamed or fried eggs) will be prepared to order. Owner Johnny Le will handle operations while Leo Truong brings culinary expertise from Cu Chi, Vietnam, where he previously owned a restaurant; the renovated 6,300-square-foot space replaces Yum Yum Buffet and can seat up to 150 people." - Helen I. Hwang

Google
Good, standard pho spot for a quick bite of pho. Thr noodles seemed a little softer than I would have liked, also more meat. The iced coffee came pre-made, Im more fond of the standard drip at the table and mix the condensed milk at the bottom of a cup filled with ice. The broth was very tasty and it smelled delicious from the moment it was set in front of me. Overall, pretty happy with my choices

Finally tried this place after passing by it so many times since I usually stick to my go-to Vietnamese spot. I’m glad I stopped in because they offer dishes I don’t see at my regular place. The eggrolls came with two small pieces of lettuce and when I asked for extra, they were happy to bring more. The lemongrass beef stir-fry was tender, flavorful, and really well done. The servers were on top of everything, too.

Restaurant is very nice and spacious. I was with 10 people and we were not squeezed in like other restaurants. The menu had a lot of options (not just pho and rice). They even have vegetarian options. Food was good and were big portions!! Drink that stood out to me was the dirty Thai Tea. Must try!

This is my new go-to place for vietnamese food. The restaurant itself is really spacious and what makes it stand out is the open concept grill center. It's really cool to watch the chef grill food while you're waiting. I ordered pho because its been raining and nothing is better than a bowl of pho on a rainy San Diego day. The broth was really good and the bowl was a very decent size. Service was amazing, food was great, and vibes were good. Can't wait to try all the other items on the menu.

One of the best pho places I’ve ever tried! The broth is rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced — not too salty, just right. The beef rib pho is super impressive — tender meat that falls off the bone, with fresh herbs and noodles cooked perfectly. The sizzling beef and meatball bánh mì are also must-tries — crispy bread, juicy meatballs, and a perfectly runny egg. The restaurant is clean, service is quick, and the staff are friendly. 👉 If you love authentic Vietnamese food, this place is a must-visit!

I just moved to SD 3 months ago after living in SE Asia for 6 years. Pho Leo & Grill chefs exceeded my expectations today, with rich cultural flavor in ever bite. The place is new and is so clean you could eat off the floor. A 5 star dining experience at affordable prices. A nice gentleman by the name of Tan was very kind and attentive to my dinning needs. A must try! p.s. the Thai Tea is out of this world!!!

A newly opened pho spot in Point Loma. The interior is large and very open. They have lots of seating available. The bathroom is clean as well. All the workers here are kind! For an appetizer we went with the Nem Nuong Goi Cuon, it came out with the slightly orange colored sauce. IYKYK. I found it a little thin and lacking flavor, but after adding some sriracha it was more tasty. The goi cuon was freshly made as the Nem Nuong was still hot. I wish they added some vermicelli noodles or daikon, but am happy with the amount of veggies that were paired with it- carrots, cucumber, lettuce, green onion (that flat one), beansprouts, & mint… since they cut it into four (two rolls) it was easier to share with the table. We also tried their $7, Dirty Thai Tea. I believe the dirty part refers to having espresso, or perhaps in their case— Vietnamese coffee added on top. I’m not exactly sure if we actually received it because it didn’t have much of a two tone color compared to other images I saw. Regardless, the drink was creamy and not too sweet. It was nice and cold and delicious! Then, we ordered Pho Ga and Pho Tai— I don’t know the exact name of it that we chose. But it had several other meats inside and we asked for the rare steak to be on the side. I thought it was going to be the usual thinly sliced meat, but it was actually very red. The waiter mentioned proudly that it was thinly sliced ribeye. If I’d known, I would have not asked for the rare meat to be on the side. While the broth was very hot, it wasn’t hot enough to cook the meat while I ate everything else. It was still quite pink as I finished up my noodles. By the way, the noodles were perfectly cooked!! For the broth, I would have liked a little more flavor from the spices, but overall not bad. They also gave us a large plate of beansprouts, pho basil, lime, etc. If I had to choose between the pho, I would order the pho ga again. It was piping hot and the chicken flavor was very prominent. The broth was clean, not overly salty, nor too sweet. They also have banh mi options, egg noodle soups, and rice dishes available to order. The drink menu also has che 3 mau, salty lemonade, and Vietnamese coffee! The price for three people, 2 pho, 1 app, and a specialty drink … was not too expensive! I would come here again.

Google
Great place to get Vietnamese food in San Diego; I don’t normally eat Pho outside my house 😅, but Pho Leo is expectational. Moreover, their grill pork is fantastic on rice, the broth on the side is great as well. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Yelp
Seems NEW. It was very clean and a nice restaurant, considering the location, even the restroom was spotless. Today was my 1st try at having Pho. I had the (3) meats (flank, brisket and rib eye) Pho and it started off with a pleasant and terrific aroma. In my opinion, I would never have the brisket in my Pho again based on how tough, chewy and fatty this was. Otherwise, everything else was good.

Yelp
Im a Vietnamese international student and the first time I try Pho here, I fall in love with this place. The best Vietnamese restaurant for me so far!!!

Yelp
Our server, Mai was amazing! She should be managing this place. The food was good. But, Mai's service was excellent!!!

Yelp
The C5 with chicken was very good, so good, in fact, that I've already been back a second time. The service here is reliable, and the restaurant's interior is new, fresh, and clean. My friend, who joined me on my first visit, mentioned the food is quite authentic, and I agree it was both delicious and interesting. (The photos are from that first visit). I did notice the portions seemed a bit smaller on my second trip, but the quality was still excellent. This place is definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Pho Leo and Grill in the Point Loma area of San Diego opened earlier this year. Located in a renovated building with free parking in the lot was convenient. The restaurant is bigger, better and newer than the average pho restaurants in SD. Upon entry, I chose to sit by the big bay window. Overall, the restaurant appeared clean with clean menus. My order was taken quickly. But when a larger group of diners who arrived way after Me received their order first, I wasn't happy and was about to walk out. Good thing, I didn't leave, since my order was presented shortly after. The pho with brisket, two beef rib bones, and grilled prawns all looked good. As usual I was only interested in the broth, which tasted wonderful even without chili oil or any spices. I only added the fresh cut herbs on top to settle in a little and release its aromatic scents to the broth. I had sipped about half the bowl of broth and had the server package the rest TOGO. I should eat all that meat, as I'm deficient in Iron, maybe have a little later. My pup Fendi loves the beef brisket and beef rib bone which I will cut into small pieces and add a few to her meal, for later. Service by the young male staffers was professional, attentive and nice. They were fascinated that I'm from Beverly Hills in LA. They asked if I visited during the grand opening, to which I replied No, because it seemed like it would be too crowded with lots free loading people, he laughed in agreement. During cloudy cold weather, I always want a hot bowl of soup which I will not and could not prepare myself. Pho soup requires preparing lots fresh ingredients and cooking it for hours...which I don't have the time or the inclination to do. While this pho broth is not the absolute best, it still tasted wonderful enough to soothe and warm me up with its herbaceous scents...and for this reason, makes Pho Leo worth a visit. Recommend

Yelp
I ordered a Thai tea, which was delicious, and the Short Rib Pho. The short rib was tender and literally sliding off the bone! The portion was big and I did not finish the whole bowl. The service was quick but the server was not particularly friendly. He was abrupt and very straight to the point. So it was not bad service but not excellent service, either. It just wasn't "warm" service. The ambiance seemed more on the casual side. I'd consider going back if I was in the mood for more pho.

Yelp
The dining area was clean and very spacious. The service was quick and the staff was friendly and attentive. Filled our waters and checked on us. The food was great. We got the egg rolls, Short Rib Pho, Beef Banh Mi, and the loaded fries. We will definitely be coming back again!

Yelp
This place is new and still needs work out some kinks. Food was ok, nothing super good that's calling me back. I've have better pho. The bbq chicken vermicelli was so underwhelming. Chicken was dry and hard. Sad for a place with Grill in its name. The whole bowl need flavor. Not enough fish sauce and didn't get peanuts. It was slimy the next day so didn't even try to eat leftovers since it didn't taste great the first day. Happy hour menu looked reasonable but nothing tasted great. Can't go wrong with the friend chicken wings but tasted kinda gamey. The worse part was server spilled a lot of hot pho broth on my husband's lap as she tried to place the bowl on the table. She brought a wet kitchen towel with ice. No offer to comp his bowl or bring him a drink or dessert. Glad it was my husband and not one of the kids. The place is big and clean. Lots of parking. Hoping they improve but plenty of other Vietnamese places around that I'll go to before I go back.

Yelp
I came here for dinner the other night since I was in the area and saw that it was new. As I entered, I was greeted by one of the wait staff and was surprised at how large the restaurant was. It had an open layout, lots of seating and an open kitchen (in my experience, you don't see much of this at pho restaurants). The restaurant was very clean and I saw multiple people cleaning tables very promptly. All of the staff there were very attentive and friendly and our table was never dirty and our water glasses always full. On to the food - the menu has a good amount of options and they have some happy hour specials as well. I stuck to some of my favorites, including the fresh spring rolls which definitely were fresh and filled with shrimp and pork. Of course I have to get pho and chose the 'build your own' option with brisket and rare beef and the house noodles which were a little different than the classic, but still good. The broth was rich and the portion was pretty large. The second entree was the vermicelli with egg roll and chicken. Also a large portion, however would've like another egg roll. Conclusion: Good restaurant and great service, also good for groups!

Yelp
Arrived around 10am for an early lunch. We were greeted upon entry. Party of 3 adults and 2 kids. This place is enormous there's plenty of table and booths. My husband ordered spring rolls and grilled pork sausage with a broken rice grilled pork plate. I ordered the pho special and my aunt ordered a chicken banh. Took about 15-20 for our orders to arrive. Strange that my husband's plate didn't come with an egg compared to other pho restaurants and he said the fish sauce was a bit light but the grilled pork was tender and delicious. The pho was okay the broth was a bit light but they were generous with the toppings you can also choose the regular noodles or fresh. The spring rolls tasted fresh. Resturant is clean and the staff friendly.

Yelp
When you first go in the atmosphere and decorations were really really nice. So nice I could probably take a date there. The service was good and the food was ok. I feel like I judge them really badly because I eat hella pho so I'm too strict on my comments. The broth was a decent 7 out of 10. My mom said the broth should never be dark. I think it's cause all their types of meat the offer. The quality is good, but they had something I've never tried before. They have fresh made in house noodles. I definitely wanted to try that. In my opinion that were spectacular. It was soft and noodly. Yes, I made that word up but it was super yummy. You'll see from the pictures. I'll definitely go there, again. Very very decent pho. 4.5 stars.

Yelp
This Vietnamese rice stir-fry plate is a standout dish that feels both comforting and vibrant. The steamed jasmine rice is soft and fragrant, serving as the perfect base for the flavorful assortment of tender beef, juicy chicken, and sweet, perfectly cooked shrimp. The proteins blend seamlessly, giving each bite a satisfying balance without feeling heavy. Fresh vegetables--crisp broccoli, colorful carrots, bok choy, onions, and scallions--bring brightness and a pleasant crunch, soaking up the savory seasoning from the stir-fry. All the dishes are reasonably priced, and the service is consistently warm and attentive. It's a meal that delivers both quality and value, making it an easy favorite for anyone craving authentic Vietnamese comfort food.

Yelp
Food: Phở Short Rib (10/10) - The phở came with two big short ribs that were tender and flavorful. I chose the soft noodles instead of the regular ones, and they reminded me of phở in Vietnam. The broth was flavorful without being too salty. Overall, it was a solid bowl of phở. Broken Rice Combo B with Pork Chop (6.5/10) - Veggies were good, meat loaf was standard, broken rice was tasty, and the pork chop was okay. The pork chop was a bit dry and lacked that grilled, smoky taste and aroma, but it still had flavor and wasn't bad. Create Your Phở with Rare ribeye, Brisket, Tripe (8/10) - The broth had an authentic taste of bone broth. It was balanced and flavorful, not too salty, and everything came together nicely. Grilled Pork Roll (9/10) - It was a unique take on a spring roll that I've never tried before. The pork was flavorful, and the spring roll paired really well with the dipping sauce. Tri-Beans Dessert (10/10) - It was loaded with toppings like red beans, mung bean paste, and pandan jelly. It was refreshing and came in a generous portion. Nice sweet dessert to have! Service: The staff were super friendly and helpful, and they even spoke to my parents in Vietnamese when needed. We had a welcoming experience. Ambiance: The restaurant is huge and spacious with plenty of seating. It has a casual, relaxed vibe type of Vietnamese restaurant.

Yelp
Service was very welcoming and friendly. The space is clean and spacious where seating is ample. They also have a grill center in the middle of the restaurant so you can see the food being freshly grilled to tantalize the sense. I tried both the Pho with 2 ribs and the grilled pork chop broken rice dish with meatloaf. The pho broth was a bit on the bland for me where it was missing the spice depth that I was looking for, but still a very comforting pho dish. They offer choice of regular noodles or fresh. I opted for the fresh and found that it got bloated quicker so I would recommend the regular noodles. The beef ribs were huge and fall off the bone tender. It was bit on the gristlier side. My favorite dish was definitely the pork chop broken dish where the pork chop was marinated deliciously and it had an amazing char flavor from the grill. I also really liked the meatloaf which was surprisingly on the airy side where it was not too dense with good flavors. I would come back just for the broken dish plates where I want to try the grilled beef ribs next time!!

Yelp
This Pho place is delicious. The broth was flavorful and the short rib tender, it fell off the bone smoothly. Service was great, they treat you nice and asks how's everything constantly. There's many Pho places to choose from in this area but Pho Leo is a great one to eat at.

Yelp
I was craving Vermicelli noodles and remembered about Pho Leo. As soon as you walk in the place feels open a you can see the waiters are happy and have a smile in their face. We were greeted and sat right away. The menu is not big which I love because you know everything will be good! We ordered the Vermicelli plate with and egg roll and added shrimp and the broken rice plate ( pictured). The good came out fast! The Vermicelli plate was good! The egg roll tasted different than what im used to but in a good way! The broken rice plate the same... food was tasty and very filling. The restaurant was not too full but not once did I notice the servers sitting or standing, they were always checking on the tables to make sure we were ok. If you're in the area stop by, there is something for everyone!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for an early lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant wasn't very busy at about 11am. Servers were super nice and attentive. They knew the menu and the food very well. The restaurant was very spacious, modern looking and very clean. And being a Vietnamese restaurant it looked like everyone that worked there was actually Vietnamese to authenticate the food. I haven't been to any pho places that serve the big beef rib bone which was one of the reasons for trying out the restaurant....plus we were craving pho and OB Noodle House didn't open until 12pm. This place opens at 9am so you can get your pho fix early. We started with the Grilled Pork Sausage Roll which was excellent. My boyfriend got the Pho Special which was everything but the kitchen sink and I got the Pho with Meatballs and added on a beef rib bone. The Pho Special was pretty freaking big (shame on me for not getting a pic) and the boyfriend loved it. He finished half the broth and all the proteins except for a little bit of pho which he packed up to take home. I thought my beef bone was going to come in my pho....NOPE....it got it's own bowl of broth to steep in (as you can see in the pic). My pho was pretty tasty and the broth was delish. I finished my pho bowl and had a little bit of the rib bone which fell off the bone easily. I took the meat off the bone and took it home with the broth that it came in. I eventually made noodle soup with my leftovers and it was amazing. The broth was really good!! I highly recommend Pho Leo and we will be coming back.

Yelp
I'd give it a one star but I know those sometimes somehow disappear. Space is clean, but that's the only redeeming quality about this place and there are MANY other delicious Vietnamese options to choose from in this area. Not only did they get my order wrong multiple times, they didn't make any attempt at good customer service. I asked for my food to go because the experience was so awful and they made me pack it up myself - I guess maybe normal but it felt like adding injury to insult. On the taste note, everything was bland and slightly off. My nem nuong cuon was also burned and I could taste the more than chargrilled flavor. It was inedible. Just go somewhere else. Examples: Pho Point Loma & Grill or The Pho Shop.

Yelp
3 months new. Staff were friendly and attentive! I got the rice and grilled pork which hit the spot. Gotta eat it with their special chili paste and fish sauce! The Vietnamesecoffee were good. Egg rolls only came in 3 , which tasted ok. The sandwich were flavorful! The place is very spacious and had a lot of seatings, I'm surprised to see it with so many people! We'd def come back!

Yelp
Had lunch here with the family and loved it! The space is super clean, spacious, and welcoming. The pho was flavorful, and the broken rice with BBQ chicken was delicious. Service was fantastic our server even brought out a coloring sheet and pencil for the kids, which we really appreciated. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
A long vacant Chinese buffet in the Midway District is now the home of a new Vietnamese restaurant. Pho Leo & Grill debuted in the middle of last month with a 50% discount offered during its soft opening weekends. The staff severely underestimated the initial customer demand as we tried to visit for a Saturday lunch and was told the wait for a table would be at least an hour. We decided to leave because one of our friends who was already seated with her party had waited over an hour and a half to get their correct food order!! When I returned on a weekday evening a few weeks ago, the place was less than 1/4 full. Parking was ample in the lot to the east of the building because the fast food joint in that section was closed for business. The dining capacity was huge and had to be over 100 because it used to seat that many for an AYCE buffet. Along the back of the room was a long window to the kitchen preparation area in which you could observe the cooks grilling various proteins. The menu was split between two laminated pages. One sheet listed the pho and broken rice. There were seven choices for the former and five choices for the latter. Appetizers, noodles, and vermicelli made up the other sheet. There were six, three, and one selection for each of these categories. I don't know if there are plans to expand the offerings because it seemed limited compared to other local pho eateries. For my meal, I started with the Spring Rolls which came as a pair. Each roll was stuffed with pork, shrimp, rice vermicelli, lettuce, bean sprouts, and mint inside a rice paper wrap. The size of the rolls and the peanut sauce for dipping were comparable to elsewhere. A bowl of the Vermicelli with Grilled Pork was my entree. Cucumbers, carrots, lettuce, bean sprouts, and pickled vegetables accompanied the rice noodles and pork inside the bowl. A cup of fish sauce was provided on the side to pour into the vessel. I found the quantity of meat to be ample, but I wanted more noodles for the base. The speed of service and accuracy of making my order were on point which was a welcome sight given the operational difficulties they experienced during their early days. The average rating of my two trips to Pho Leo & Grill was at a three star level.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I would frequent Pho Point Loma (right across the street) as it's been there for years but it's nice to see more asian businesses pop up especially in the Point Loma area where there is barely any asian options as is. Upon entering we were surprised to see how huge this place is. However, the menu is very small. It's only one sheet front and back. Considering the size of this place I would think maybe their menu would offer more. We got the pho and dry egg noodles. The pho broth was very interesting. I can't quite put my tongue on it but it has a strong star anise flavor yet it is very light. The egg rolls were good but the portion was small. My egg noodles were also good however I felt the portion was small. The prices are average for the area. Not cheap by any means. I also got their homemade boba tea. If you love sugary drinks this is right up your alley (I enjoyed it very much). You can tell whoever made this place put their heart and soul into the restaurant. All the little touches show that they care. The servers were all young which is different from most viet places that usually have the older folks serving the food. It feels young, fresh, and a little hip. Overall, this place isn't by any means the best Vietnamese food in SD but it's good for the Point Loma area!

Yelp
Dropped off the bf to the airport and wanted to take myself out to dinner, so thanks to Yelp for the help to find this spot for me! I love me some Vietnamese food! It always hits the spot. For hot summer days and nights, vermicelli is my favorite go to dish. The pickled carrotsc fresh shredded lettuce and mint leaves, plus I asked for basil makes this cool dish so fresh and light and just perfect during my follicular phase! If you're lost rn ladies, look up cycle syncing so you can learn how to bio hack your way into a healthier you! Yeah, better skin, no more bloating, aging? Pft, that's for old timers! In this date and age, we got technology to eat our way back to vitality and our ultimate health! Back to food review! I love that they have a fresh grill here, because the grilled meats is the star of this dish! The portion is so big I can eat this for lunch tomorrow too. The restaurant is so spacious, so dining alone didn't feel odd. I had my own table with a view by the window. Let's normalize taking ourselves out ladies. We don't always have to be on dates, or have someone to eat with. I honestly enjoy sitting in silence, unbothered sometimes. Look how generous they were with the basil and hot sauce! Btw, the hot sauce they have is made in house and it's spicy af! It's so good though, but you have been warned! My mouth is in fiyah!!! The lady that was my server is so sweet and attentive. Checked back to see how the food was tasting, and the food came out pretty quickly and noodles were so fresh! Not overly cooked, which is my pet peeve. Give me soggy noodles and I will throw it back at you! lol just kidding, I will definitely get offended and send it back though. Lastly, they make a sweet sauce to pour into your bowl so there's a umami, savory and sweet sauce to toss into your salad/noodle dish. If you have never tried this, it's a great alternative to pho on a hot day! Come back for pho when it's cooler out. Enjoy

Yelp
New just recently opened good location lots of parking huge dining area with booths and table style seatings. Staff welcoming and helpful with menu items. Started with Spring Roll that had shrimp, pork , vermicelli and veggies with a good dipping sauce. Vermicelli with grilled pork and egg roll it was a good size portion that will fill you up and the flavors delicious. Dirty Thai Tea yes! It's Thai tea with a float of coffee on top so you get both in one iced drink yummy . Condiments at the table hoisin sauce , sriracha and chili sauce spicy and good Dining experience great! Will certainly return and please have Mango Sticky Rice :)

Yelp
I visited Pho Leo for the soft opening. They offered 50% for the weekend. I ordered the Broken Rice Leo combination plate. Broken rice was room temperature and had low moisture content. Mild flavor was ok. Soup had green onions in it and had a nice flavor. I prefer soup with meat and veggies in it. Pork rib was tender with nice char and I liked the smoky flavor. Pork chop was cut thin and had a nice smoky flavor. What I didn't like about the 2 meats is they were marinated in some kind of sauce with garlic in it and I tasted quite a bit of garlic. Server was nice and provided very good service.

Yelp
A new, spacious restaurant in Point Loma. We waited a week after their grand opening to try it, and unfortunately, this establishment was an extreme disappointment. It wasn't too busy when we visited for lunch. There were plenty of employees, yet, the service still wasn't up-to-par. I understand that it's new but employees should know what's on the menu and what's being served. When we placed our order, we had the server confirm what was asked. And, the order still arrived at the table wrong. When the food runner delivered our order, he didn't know what he was delivering. He wasn't confident on what he was placing on the table and stood there with gloved hands on his hips and shrugged shoulders. So, that basically caused 3/4 of our table to eat the wrong meal. By the time we each took our first bites, we realized the bowls were all mixed up. There's a few different pho options, and everyone at the table chose the "create your pho" option, including a choice of fresh or regular noodles. So if you're opting for that, you may want to actually toss/mix the bowl to confirm that it's your bowl before eating. We also had a broken rice with chicken plate that we asked to make sure no pork was included. Once again, the server confirmed no pork and what happened? The plate had fried pork bits with scallion on top of the rice. So, for the ones who cannot eat pork, please triple check. There's also not many choices for a vegetarian either. So, heads up. The pho broth is on the sweeter side. Nothing wrong with a sweet pho because some regions are like so but the flavor wasn't that great. It was underwhelming. The only good thing about it was the noodles option, that's it. As for the rice plate, the chicken was flavorful and grilled nicely. It came with a side of pickled vegetables that were barely pickled. Would it leave you craving more? Absolutely not. Drinks came after the food order. Homemade fruit teas served in a bottle that wasn't chilled. Togo ice cup was requested and delivered without a lid. Peach tea, fresh lemonade, and salty preserved plum with club soda drinks all not in our favor. Overall, a waste of money. There's definitely better pho places in the area.

Yelp
(3/5 stars means solid, as expected) Update: the second day went much smoother since they made guests wait to be seated rather than seating all the open tables. We got both the egg and rice noodles dishes dry, meaning the soup came on the side. The toppings were the same and portion sizes were the same. The side soup was a pork broth and was good. (This pork soup is what should've came with the broken rice dish yesterday when they served with pho broth). Rice noodles hu tieu - note: the true meaning of hu tieu is a starch chewy noodle. This was not hu tieu, it was fresh pho noodle. The texture of fresh pho noodle is soft. This one was a little on bland side. Egg noodles mi - the sauce was way too salty and there was a giant clump in the egg noodles that was raw in the center. But I enjoyed the egg noodle texture way more than the rice noodle. I would recommend egg noodle between the 2 if you had to pick. But for $16.50, the noodle portions were too small. My senior parents have smaller appetites and even they were still hungry after. Bottom line: stick to the pho dishes since those are better flavor and better portion size for the price.

Yelp
I love Vietnamese food, I've had it in Vietnam the 4 times I went, and countless times in Orange County, so I'm going to be constructive, because I want people to have an authentic experience. This restaurant took over a former Chinese AYCE located in midway near Point Loma and OB. It's been renovated and is beautifully decorated and modern now. There is plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside. We came at opening for their soft opening, so we were seated right away, however there was a line about 1 hour of waiting after opening. Our waitress took our order and the phở came out in about 15 minutes. Our broken rice came out about 45 minutes later after we had to ask about it. The egg rolls were crispy and flavorful with plenty of filling. We ordered multiple different phở. The phở broth is very sweet, more than I'm used too, but it was overall flavorful. The bánh phở (noodles) were very chewy and firm. The beef rib was tender, moderately beefy, but very under seasoned. My wife's special phở was missing one of the meats and my broken rice Leo was missing some of the meats spelled out in the menu. We didn't know about this until we went home and reviewed the menu. See my pictures. Maybe it was due to this being a soft opening, but they still seem to be working out the kinks. Since it's half off right now, I'll give them a pass, but once they fully open, I hope they fix the little hiccups.

Yelp
The resturant is very spacious, neat and tidy. The service staff are attentive and very conversational. I've never had PHO w/ beef ribs (two large bones w/ generous beef) I was able to opt for glass noodle or fresh cut noodles. The broth was fantastic and very rich and flavorfull w/o being overly fatty. The pork Bon MI sando was fantastic. Generous servings and fair pricing even w/o a happy hour visit.

Yelp
I had the chance to try this spot during their friends and family night, and it's safe to say I'll be coming back! I ordered the rice plate with short rib, and it was absolutely amazing. The ribs were perfectly cooked tender and juicy. What really stood out was the homemade fish sauce that came with the dish. It paired beautifully with everything on the plate and brought all the flavors together. They also pickle their own carrots and daikon which balanced the flavors of the meat. Portions were generous without being overwhelming. The interior was spacious compared to most pho restaurants. Perfect place for small and large groups. It's clear that a lot of care goes into the food here. Excited to come back and try more items on the menu next time!

Yelp
Finally fresh noodle pho in San Diego!!!! :''') TLDR: different from most pho places in SD and 100% worth a try! Unique items and hard to find ingredients I came for the soft opening because I heard they have a com tam grill and I was suuuuper interested! The place is gigantic, tons of space and seating, perfect for huge groups. It was their soft opening so they were still getting used to service and had only a few menu items available. Pho Ribs: super solid pho but with FRESH NOOOODLE. I have been on the hunt for fresh noodle pho for years, pretty sure this is the first place in SD to have it. If you love pho, def come try it. I've only had fresh noodle in Vietnam and Bay area, so suuuuper happy theres one here!! They also had rice patty herb on the side! Com Tam: they have a full on visible GRILL where you can watch them grill your meats!! I've never seen that before here in the US!! They also pickle their own veggies, including pickled cauliflower which was unique and a game changer! Their fish sauce was super spicy, just how i like it lmao. DEF try the crab cake, was sooo tasty. Compared to most pho places here, i feel like this place brought really unique items to their menu, making them stand out a lot more. I've been to a lot of pho places but this us the first time in a while that a place made an impression on me

Yelp
YUMM New pho joint in San Diego! The space has a nice open concept layout with a clean and modern vibe, love the lighting. What really caught our eye were the two grills in the back, such a unique touch and fun to watch in action. Flame grilled meat is so nice to see. We ordered the pho with 2 rib bones and the com tam with 3 rib bones. The pho broth was deeply flavorful, and I loved the flat noodles, you don't see this often in San Diego. The rib bones added a nice richness, but if you're craving something more classic, I'd recommend going with the regular combination pho for that nostalgic, traditional experience. There's a specific herb Ngo Om that no pho restaurant has but this does, often used in Vietnam (autheticity points!). Every bowl is served piping hot, this is a huge plus. Their com tam dish here will be the go to dish for me. It came with a crab cake that swapped out the usual egg (cha trung) and wow, I could honestly eat five of them lol. You can really taste the crab in every bite. What tied the whole dish together was their house fish sauce, spicy, tangy, with a hint of pineapple. I would consider buying a side of their sauce if it was an option. Chef Leo, came by our table and gave us a warm welcome. He even offered a quick tour of the space and shared insights about the food. You can tell he puts his heart into every dish. The restaurant is spotless, organized, and ran with care. It's a family business and the staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Vietnamese food in a welcoming and well designed space. We'll definitely be back! Lots of parking

Yelp
I ordered the pho and the mango tea. The pho broth was delicious and the fresh noodles were delicious and not chewy at all! The tea was not too sweet and delicious. I would come back for the fresh noodles.

Yelp
You know it'll be a good by: 1. Walk in and the aroma of a home cooked pho broth hits you back to the good old days. 2. Customers scatter around include both young couples, families, and older Asian folks. 3. They're rolling piping hot pho bowls and platters of rice plates on carts to you and the others. Overall, very large and clean spot. Hostesses are so friendly and welcoming (huge win for the restaurant). Menu is simple (to the point it's almost Americanized) but the food coming out of the kitchen is very very authentic and delicious. It's truly comparable to places like Little Saigon in Garden Grove, and the Viet restaurants in San Jose. Pho broth was mostly clear, and clean (not fatty/oily), and complimented with adequate portion sizes of meats. I left full. I hope people go out of their way to find this hidden gem.

Yelp
I've had food from this restaurant twice. The first time, I dined in and really enjoyed the pho which was flavorful and well-prepared. Unfortunately, my second experience was very disappointing. I ordered takeout and there was hair in both bowls of pho!!! Additionally, the pork spring rolls were bland, and the dipping sauce lacked flavor. Due to these issues, I will not be returning. I'm giving them 2 stars based on the strong first visit, but the quality and hygiene on the second visit were unacceptable.

Yelp
Yes, there are many Vietnamese restaurants in SD... but the food here is QUALITY. Great customer was well. Shrimp Pho, Banh Mi and Broken Rice Special was my order alone. Viet coffee to drink. So good!

Yelp
Came to Pho Leo & Grill in Point Loma for the first time and was pleasantly surprised! Plenty of parking, which is always a plus. At first we were a little skeptical because the restaurant has such a modern look, we weren't sure if the flavors would be authentic. We ordered the beef bone pho and the grilled pork chop rice plate, and everything was excellent. The broth had depth and richness, the kind you want in a good pho, and the pork chop was flavorful and cooked perfectly. Service was friendly and attentive too, which made the whole experience even better. Best part? My dad, who is a true Vietnamese man and definitely picky about his pho, gave his stamp of approval. That says a lot! Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Yelp
So I'm not usually a pho person but my wife is but this place may have turned me. Their pho Leo bowl was sooo good especially with the chili sauce.

Yelp
Came here a few weeks after their recent soft opening. Place is super big and clean. Nice to have another pho option in the Sports Arena Midway area. Ordered the Pho Leo special and it was generous in portion. There are 2 noodle options to choose from, either fresh wider flat noodles or their standard thin noodles. I chose the fresh and it was on point. Will be trying the thin option next time. The pho broth was above average and on the slightly sweeter and thin side. I tend to prefer a fattier heartier pho broth. I don't hold this against this store because it could be a regional and preference issue. At least the broth was still delish and not diluted like a lot of places these days. The accompanying standard platter of bean sprouts, peppers, lime, and basil were all on point as were the sauces. Their homemade chili sauce was like crack to me. I could not get enough. Lastly, a big shout out to the 2 waitresses Dana and Alyssa who were both super friendly and attentive, coming by to refill my drink and chat about their grand opening experience and what else to try on their menu. I look forward to coming back for their broken rice and egg noodle dishes. This review will be updated after that.

Yelp
Hands down the best Com Tam (Broken Rice) in San Diego. Usually, I prefer going up to OC/LA area for good Broken Rice so I'm glad we finally have a great option in SD. Huge restaurant with plenty of seating, with a grill station that was front & center so it's a great experience. Awesome service as well. You can tell they really want the food to taste amazing.

Yelp
Location is new so the inside of the restaurant is clean and when we went it was pretty empty. I appreciated that the restaurant offers their homemade noodle or packaged for the pho. My spouse said the pho was "okay" she said that it almost tasted sweet which she wasn't expecting. Not necessarily bad, but different. The vermicelli bowl was served with I thought would be a fish oil/ sauce but it was also sweet. Chicken was not as grilled as some other places I've been to. It was good but not great. Prices were a okay for the serving sizes. I wish I could give more information about this place but I do feel like it was mediocre. Wasn't awful but not the best I've had either. I most likely won't be back.

Yelp
Ordered take out, I thanked the server for my order and told him to have a good day. Never said you're welcome. The place had a few people dining and was not busy or loud so I know he heard me. My take out was not packaged properly and it spilled ruining my Pho when I got home. I even wedged it in my car so it wouldn't spill. The lid on one container wasn't even sealed.

Yelp
Here's what I ordered: Broken Rice special with pork chop plus an added spare rib with a dirty Thai tea. FOOD: (B) The food was good but not great. The flavor of the meat (pork chop & spare rib) was comparable to many other viet restaurants. The pork chop was thin than I expected. The Tau Hu Ky was small (2inx1in) compared to Pho Van & NHU Y. The side soup was served warm and a bit on the sweeter side. The STAR of the rice plate for me was the pickled cauliflower! Very unexpected. Would I order this plate again? Probably but with the spare rib instead of pork chop. The spare rib was meatier and the texture was better. If you love Vietnamese coffee and Thai tea the dirty Thai tea is for you! The best of both..... I'm wired! SERVICE: (A) I was seated right away on a Monday late afternoon (5:30pm) My server was great! Kudos to Allysa for being friendly nice and attentive. Check wasn't given while I was still eating was a big plus. She checked in often but not too much where it became annoying. AMBIANCE: (C) Fairly chill and quiet. Modern new and expected. You don't have the usually chopsticks, soup spoons and sauce cups already at your table like Pho Hoa in City Heights. Definitely catered to a specific demographic. I did have a visitor (fly) visit at the end of my meal. Would I come back? Yes, to try their PHO and Egg Noodles and update my review. Update: PHO (D) got the Pho Leo with Fresh noodles. underwhelming something was off with the broth. Didn't get much protein with it don't be fooled by the "rib" it was not tender at all tried to take a bite and was chewy more bone than meat . No aroma. The fresh noodles were wider but all broke apart when trying to pick it up. Definitely would not recommend.

Yelp
My Husband and I came to visit PHO LEO & GRILL on their first day of their Soft opening on June 14, 2025. We arrived the moment they opened their door and inside I believe that only 7 tables were occupied, but after an Hour the place got so packed. Since we came early, we had high hopes that we were gonna be eating well and that the food will be delivered fast. UNFORTUNATELY, all of the food that we ordered was completed in 1 HOUR and 40 mins . One of our orders was BROKEN RICE with GRILLED PORK, it kept coming back to our table three times, despite me saying that we already had the Broken Rice with Grilled Pork and that what we had been waiting for was our BROKEN RICE with PORK CHOP. The MOST ANNOYING PART of our experience here is that THEY WERE CHANGING the INGREDIENTS from what they described on the MENU without letting us know first when their ingredients were not available. For EXAMPLE i ordered the GRILLED PORK SAUSAGE ROLL and they delivered a SHRIMP ROLL. I told our server "Look at your LIST of what we ordered and tell me what you see" and she said yes, it was the GRILLED PORK SAUSAGE ROLL. So she brought it back to the Kitchen and back to me again with a wrong one, this time she brought out a GRILLED PORK ROLL, so i sent it back again to the kitchen and they came back with the same GRILLED PORK ROLL and told me the KITCHEN said it was because they didn't have the GRILLED PORK SAUSAGE ROLL that day. OMG PLEASE if you don't have the INGREDIENTS, DON'T REPLACE it with a different one WITHOUT ASKING US FIRST and please COME BACK TO THE TABLE of YOUR CUSTOMER and LET THEM KNOW it is not available. Another example was my VERMICELLI with GRILLED PORK, you have the option to choose add-ons to your Vermicelli noodles, so I saw on their menu a picture of a Grilled Shrimp with a head and shell on for $3 each, so I ordered 2 of them and confirmed with our server if it really was the whole shrimp 'coz it's $3 each, and she said they were. So the Vermicelli noodles came and my order of Shrimps were not there, so I sent it back to the kitchen 'coz my Shrimps were missing and when it came back there were Shrimps, but with no head and shell like as beautiful in their picture. So again, I told our Server to let the Kitchen know what i really ordered for an extra $6 for 2 grilled shrimp with the head on and the shell still. She came back and said the KITCHEN said it was not available today. Geez, again don't replace the customer's order without letting them know first :( My Patience was getting lesser on what was happening , we were among the 7 customers who came the moment they opened their Door at 10:00am and still they completed our food after 1 hour and 40 minutes and within those times there were so many ERRORS. There were 3 MORE ERRORS that happened within the 1 hours and 40 minutes while we were there, but I don't want to write more here. So FAR with all the FRUSTRATIONS, the POSSITIVE i can SHARE here on YELP is that THEIR GRILLED MEATS were REALLY DELICIOUS and TENDER!!!! I ordered a lot so that I could try which one were the good ones so that when we come back with our son i already know which one to order next time for my Son. Here is what I ordered to try: *BROKEN RICE with PORK CHOP *BROKEN RICE with SPARE RIB *BROKEN RICE with GRILLED PORK *PHO SHORT RIBS *EGG ROLL *GRILLED PORK SAUSAGE ROLL *THREE COLOR DESSERT *THAI MILK TEA *VERMICELLI with GRILLED PORK with an added side of 2 GRILLED SHRIMPS There's plenty of parking around. The inside was very Spacious. My other orders that they messed up so many times they removed from our bill 'coz what happened was really frustrating. In spite of all of the Frustration we experienced, I wont rate this 1 star, but three Stars since it was a new restaurant and it was their first soft opening day, they still have a lot to learn and improve. Thank you Ashley for your nice greetings the moment we got in and Thank you Jessica and Dana for coming back & front to the Kitchen to check what was happening on our food. We will see you again in a Month or so and WE ARE HOPING the KITCHEN is ALREADY ORGANIZED and IMPROVED by then with preparing food orders.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our experience at pho Leo in Point Loma! Located inside the same complex as sprouts, CVS, wingstop, etc, this restaurant is located in the corner with ample free parking. It is super clean, spacious, and modern inside! They boast a unique grill center in the middle where they are always grilling meat. Their menu is simple and offers everything from spring rolls, egg rolls, banh mi sandwiches, chicken wings, fried calamari, broken rice dishes, pho, vermicelli bowls, and egg noodles. Sure to please anyone in your family/friend group! We ordered the egg noodles (dry) that comes with a side of soup and veggie pho with beef broth. The egg noodles had a perfect al dente chewy, bouncy texture with a nice savory/unami sauce. It comes with fresh bean sprouts, chives, shrimp and pork (although I omitted the pork). The side soup was light yet flavorful with a slight sweetness that was pleasant. The veggie pho came out piping hot with a generous portion of noodles and mushroom, tofu, broccoli, and bok choy. The broth had a nice, rounded, deep flavor. They apparently boil their broth for 14+ hours! We really loved their house chili oil which had tons of flavor and added a nice kick to our dishes! For $14-16 dollars, we thought it was well worth the value! Service was friendly and prompt and the food came out in a timely manner. We will definitely be back to try everything else on their menu! They also offer happy hour menu prices Monday-Friday from 2-6 pm that seems cool!

Yelp
Just had your 2nd favorite dish, the 2 Spare Ribs w/ rice and salad The Spare Ribs were the toughest ribs I ever had, could only get of a couple of bites, the rest was to tough to eat with to much bone and gristle tasted they were overcooked and overheated time and again. It was take out food ( delivered) the only reason I didn't send it back
