Yelp
Having long had its roots established in Metairie, Pho Orchid was our go to place for the longest, as it was one of our first Pho experiences after having moved back to New Orleans from having spent nearly a decade living in Los Angeles. Conveniently located on Houma Blvd. just off of Veterans Memorial Blvd., this location is very easy to get to and there is adequate parking as well.
We were fortunate on our very first visit to have Matthew as our server. His was very personable and was friends with the owner, took his time to explain the menu, and checked on us frequently while we dined. The restaurant is pretty big, but a bamboo wall in the middle separates the dining room in two and lends it to feel a little smaller than it actually is.
Some of our favorites are:
1. Spring roll w/ grilled pork: This is our favorite appetizer, as the pork comes out hot with just a little crisp to it. The peanut sauce is delish.
2. Spring rolls w/ shrimp: Served cold, these vermicelli rolls never fail to satisfy.
3. Grilled pork Bahn Mi: This Vietnamese style po-boy starts with a "French" bread that is crispy outside and oh so soft inside. The grilled pork is perfect and the accoutrements that "dress" it all add to the perfect sandwich.
4. The Pho: We have tried so many of the Pho's, but it all starts with the basic broth. The recipe here is top notch and has one of the best flavors I've eaten. I've eaten the white meat chicken, the round steak, the brisket the meatball, the soft tendon and even the trip (1 time). As a certified carnivore, I like the round steak and the brisket equally.
5. Clear noodle soup is a favorite of my wife's and her generosity always allows me to sample. The portions, even the small, are very generous and will leave you satiated.
We have never had a bad experience here. However, with so many new Pho restaurants in the N.O. Metro area, we don't get here quite as often as we used to; only because we like trying new places. However, we always come "back home" from time to time.
