The 13 Best Banh Mi Sandwiches In Austin

"The bánh mì at Pho Please might be our winner in the bargain category, based on size alone. The sandwiches here are big enough to fill us up for a couple of meals. We could eat their housemade mayo on just about anything, but it’s especially good on the lemongrass beef or the pork belly bánh mì. If you happen to live closer to campus, they have a sister location, Sip Pho, where you can get the same great sandwiches. " - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

Pho Please Austin Review - East Riverside - Austin - The Infatuation

"Pho Please off Riverside is one of the better options for pho south of Town Lake. The inside feels a little industrial, but the pho is solid and the food comes out fast. We also really enjoy the bánh mì here—they’re some of the biggest in town and have been known to feed us over the course of a couple meals. The bread is a little softer and sweeter than other baguettes in town, but still tastes fresh. And while we’d eat their house-made mayo on just about anything, it’s especially good on the lemongrass beef or the pork belly bánh mì.   " - Nicolai McCrary

I had the beef lemongrass salad and really enjoyed it! The beef was tender and full of flavor, and the fresh veggies made it super refreshing. Great spot with a clean, modern vibe and a menu full of tempting but healthy options. I’ll definitely be back!

The pho itself was average, good portion size. But the experience was soured by the service, which was surprisingly poor. From the moment we walked in, the staff at the counter seemed disinterested. No greeting, no warmth, just an attitude like we were inconveniencing them by ordering and paying in cash. We paid in cash, and the cashier didn’t give us our change back. What bothered me wasn’t even the amount. It was that he didn’t say anything at all. No “thank you,” no “do you want change?”, no acknowledgement whatsoever. He was just so confused. Then he didn’t know how much change to give me. We stood there for a moment, confused. It felt rude and unprofessional. It’s a shame because the pho was okay. But customer service matters. They should hire staff who actually acknowledge and are nice to customers and handle transactions properly. There are plenty of places with great pho and better service.

Everyone here is so nice and the food is so good. Don’t sleep on the tofu rice paper rolls. The peanut sauce served with them is amazing and the tofu is really well seasoned. I come here any time I’m remotely nearby to get them!

Google
This is a legit place to get some pho, without a lot of fuss. It’s a casual atmosphere where you order at the counter and then they send you to a table to sit and wait for your food. The place was packed when we went for dinner on a Saturday and now I know why. As someone who loves pho, the broth was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. We also ordered shrimp spring rolls and the short ribs plate over salad. All the food was delicious and we will definitely return. The service was also quick!

The bowls were absolutely delicious. The place is clean, the service top notch and the food delicious.

This place was great for a quick meal. The service is fast and friendly. The restaurant is clean. You can get your own fountain drinks, condiments and to go boxes. The banh mi was a foot long. It had great flavor. I just wish the bread was toasted a bit more so it was crunchy. The bread was soft and chewy.

It was our first time to Pho Please and they did not disappoint! The food quality was excellent…especially the authentic Vietnamese flavors. The portions were perfect…you get all the value for every penny! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming! Highly recommend and we look forward to more meals at Pho Please!

Google
Stopped by on my way to my AirBnB and even though there was a large group in front of me my food came out quickly. I ordered the Vermicelli Grilled Combo Pork and Shrimp! I've had this dish in many places like San Jose, San Francisco and Houston (Mai's) and this one is right up at the top. The shrimp was peeled and perfectly cooked, the noodles were still firm and the pork flavor was really good. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Yelp
I've been to this spot quite a few times now, and it's safe to say I'm a fan! I've tried almost all the Banh Mi sandwiches on their menu, and they never disappoint. The grilled pork is my go-to--it's packed with flavor and always satisfying. I've also had both their Banh Mi and Pho as takeout and dine-in, and both experiences have been great. The Pho travels really well, with the broth packaged separately to keep everything fresh and flavorful. One of my favorite things about eating here is their salad bar. It's such a thoughtful addition, and being able to load up on fresh veggies for my Pho makes the whole meal feel even more special. The spacious seating is another big plus--it's easy to relax and enjoy your food without feeling cramped. Before coming here, I'd read a lot of other reviews, and something that stuck with me was how many people talked about Pho like it could save their life. Honestly, after trying their rich, aromatic broth, I get it. There's just something so comforting about a good bowl of Pho, and they definitely deliver on that front. This place has become one of my favorite spots for a casual meal or takeout. The food is consistently fresh and delicious, the service is quick, and the atmosphere is welcoming. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out!

Yelp
Came in after a night drinking so hoping pho would save my soul. Very modern pho place with a small variety of vietnamese dishes. You order up front and then are assigned a table for them to serve you. they also have a small garnish bar with the typical pho garnishes but brings some to you as well. Pho please (đặc biệt) - all the meat. soup is the most important part of pho for me. it was a little bland for my taste. still enjoyed it. portion size was good. good amount of meat and noodles. 5.2/10 i also took a bite of my cousins bun bo hue...that was very disappointing to me. they thought it was alright but to me it was way too bland for me. i expect BBH to have powerful umami flavor and it tasted too water like to me sadly... overall the pho is good enough for the area so I can see why it was busy. after a night out drinking it served its purpose.

Yelp
SERVICE/AMBIANCE: - Plenty of parking outside - The food is brought out pretty fast, but still fresh FOOD - We ordered the grill bowl with beef ribs, which included a fried egg and pickled vegetables. It also came with a bowl of miso soup. The meat was flavorful, fresh, and tender. Absolutely delicious and a great value!

Yelp
Updated review as of 1/25/2025: I tried Pho Please 2 years ago and left with 3-star review. They've improved their pho significantly over a couple of years. The portion is still big and they give a good amount of meat this time. It's a good ratio between the meat, noodles, and broth. Flavor is also much better now. Being a native Vietnamese, I hold a very high standard for Vietnamese food, especially pho. Pho Please is getting very close to the authentic one in Vietnam. Each region in Vietnam has slightly different flavors in their pho. Pho Please is on the slightly sweeter side, which is fine. We didn't order appetizers but saw that their spring rolls are big and crab rangoons are fluffy. Give this place a try if you're nearby, and experience good Vietnamese pho!

Yelp
Driving through Austin during lunchtime? Think hard about coming here for a Bahn Mi sandwich. It is like a foot long and easy to handle while you are driving. They have many flavors, the most popular being pork belly and lemongrass beef. Tried the beef with everything on it and i loved the flavors and the freshness of the veggies. They have a condiment station for more cilantro, red onions, and jalapeños if you want. They also serve vermicelli salads and pho. Reminds me of some of the wonderful restaurants i used to enjoy when i lived in Denver. Clean and friendly inside.

Yelp
This spot is a gem! The food is absolutely delicious--perfectly balanced flavors and so satisfying. I can't get enough of it. Highly recommend if you're craving pho or just amazing food in general!

Yelp
Oh my, this place is good. I did takeout for two people this week, and as we all know, takeout is rarely 100%. Pho Please was close... I'll definitely go again and it'll probably be a five-star experience. Just sayin'. For my colleague, who was feeling under the weather and needed to be in tip-top shape for an evening event we were hosting... he ordered the rare filet steak pho with extra noodles and extra protein. I ordered the chicken pho (which is a chicken broth base, FYI). The chicken pho was good, though I should have asked if they offer dark meat; the menu only features chicken breast. To-go came with a generous side of basil, ~3 jalapeno slices, 1 lime, 1 hoisin sauce packet, and 1 Sriracha. I should have remembered to ask for red chili oil, as I think that really makes the pho! Overall, they have hefty portions. My biggest rec is to DINE IN for the full experience. They have so many options on the menu beyond pho, like bahn mi, spring rolls, egg rolls, vermicelli bowls, some rice dishes, and bubble tea.

Yelp
Great quality pho, relaxing environment, modern aesthetics, and fast service. You order at the counter, and they assign you a table to sit. I ordered the Pho Dac Biet (Specialty Pho) here, but would like to get their drinks / sandwiches / other food items next time. They all look phenomenal. Give this place a try!
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
Love the ambiance of Pho Please. Everything looks very aesthetic and white. They have pictures of their food all over the walls We got the Pork Belly Bao Buns, Short Rib Vermicelli Bowl, and a Pork Bahn Mi. First off, the portions are massive. Definitely ordered with my eyes and not my stomach haha! I'll definitely be back. The food was amazing!

Gabriela S.

Yelp
The pho here is amazing and very delicious! The service is always great, they have one of the friendliest workers ever! Came during their birthday celebration and they had a great system to make the experience enjoyable!

Yelp
This place is excellent for Vietnamese food. We ordered the banh mi sandwich with lemongrass beef, the crab rangoon, and the pho with mignon steak and brisket. All were so flavorful. This is probably the best pho I've tried in Austin. Lastly, the service was great too. The staff was very friendly and the food came out so fast. I will definitely come back here.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Pho Please and I had a great experience. The women that was at the register was very helpful in explaining the menu and giving suggestions on what to order. The vegetarian spring rolls were delicious! The portion size was huge for the Pho and it was also great the day after. I will be back again!
google avatar

Darlene B.

Yelp
Met up here with my good friend to catch up. If you're starving and want huge portions, this is your best bet! Their portions are massive! I ordered a vermicelli bowl, but it was basically a platter! My friend ordered a banh mi sandwich and it was the size of a chunky baby's leg! It was a cold day when we went and my food got cold pretty quickly so I don't feel like I had a great experience. I would like to go back and try it again to see if they can give me a reason to give more stars on the food part, but service was pretty good :)

Yelp
I think my mistake was coming to a Pho place then choosing Bun Bo Hue. The broth lacked the richness and flavor that is the foundation of a good soup! It also had an inch of grease floating on top that I have to spoon off. Bun Bo Hu is normally slightly on the spicy side. This one isn't. They do provide chili oil, that wasnt really spicy. It may be that they found most people in the area didn't like the spiciness of it. Solid 3 stars if you're looking for a quick pho. I'm sure the pho is good as that is what most of the people were eating while I was here. I'd pass on the Bun Bo Hue if I were to ever come back.

Yelp
Overall Impression: Pho was a solid choice for takeout, offering flavorful pho and a generous portion of banh mi. While the banh mi's price was a bit steep, the quality and quantity made it a satisfying meal. Pho Rare Steak with Meatball: The pho was expertly packaged for easy takeout, and the broth was rich and aromatic. The toppings were fresh and well-prepared, although I did find the meatball portion to be a bit lacking. Grilled Pork Banh Mi ($11): The banh mi was a substantial meal, easily enough for two servings. While the price was higher than expected, the quality and quantity were impressive. I would have preferred a smaller, more affordable option for a quick lunch. Overall: Pho is a good option for those seeking flavorful Vietnamese cuisine. The pho was excellent, and the banh mi was a generous portion, though a bit pricey.

Pearl V.

Yelp
Food was awesome! Atmosphere is cozy. Service was excellent. They were very quick getting orders out and everything was fresh.

Yelp
Fast line fast service! Great for lunch and dinner, indoor space ambiance has changed since I started going years ago and I loveee it!! Rec their Pho's and Boba drinks! Bring friends and family for a casual meal

Yelp
I saw the good reviews and decided to give it a try. I got the combination PHO today, and I was not disappointed! BONUS!- they have a salad bar, where you can top up all the extra fresh Pho veggies you want! Made my day. I had a chat with the waitress, and I'm going to try their vermicelli noodle bowl next time I come, I can't wait!

Yelp
Come here if you're looking for solid Vietnamese food that's quick and easy (food comes out in 5-10 min). The restaurant is clean and simple: you order at the counter and then head to the self-service condiment station while you wait for your food (as much sriracha, hoisin, sambal, limes/cilantro/bean sprouts your heart desires). I also order takeout from here regularly. If you're not taking an adventure over to Pho Phong Luu, this is your next best option!
google avatar

Marcus R.

Yelp
I had a great dining experience here - the food arrived promptly, and the staff was exceptionally friendly. It's an ideal spot for pho enthusiasts, even though there's no buffet; considering the prices, it's hard to complain. The modern facility boasts ample lighting and cool seating, including a bar stool area, offering a refreshing change in seating arrangements. The silverware, spoons, chopsticks, and condiments are conveniently placed on the tables. While the ambiance is generally well-lit, reaching for cilantro, limes, and red onions at the soda fountain area posed a challenge due to protective glass, even for someone with long arms. If you appreciate strong coffee, Vietnamese coffee easily outshines Starbucks. They're accommodating with order adjustments; a coworker replaced noodles with more veggies at no extra cost. The pho bowls are perfectly portioned. The ambiance is serene until around noon when it gets busy, transforming the noise level from quiet to loud quickly.

Yelp
The weather has been a bit brisk lately so I've been going to Pho Please for comfort food. The staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is somewhat serene and therapeutic. My favourites have been the Pho shrimp and Pho wontons but today I tried the Pho wonton works which I thoroughly enjoyed. Pho shrimp hot chicken broth rice noodle soup with shrimp, garnished with bok choy, red/white onions, cilantro & green onions. served with side of bean sprouts, jalapeños, basil & lime contains shellfish Pho wontons hot chicken broth rice noodle soup with shrimp, garnished with bok choy, red/white onions, cilantro & green onions. served with side of bean sprouts, jalapeños, basil & lime contains shellfish Pho wonton works hot chicken broth rice noodle soup with wontons (pork & shrimp filled), shrimp and white shredded chicken, garnished with bok choy, red/white onions, cilantro & green onions containing shellfish. More crisp weather is in the forecast so I will definitely return soon to partake of some of the delectable delights that I've eyeballed on the menu.

Yelp
Love everything about this place so much! From the friendly and excellent service to the delicious food. The space has so much natural light with large windows and tall ceilings. The pho is amazing, rich, and has big portions of everything. Today I wanted to try the bao buns and was not disappointed at all. The presentation was great, as was the flavor and portions of protein!!

Karen H.

Yelp
My husband loved his meal. Great food, clean place, good portions, and amazing service, will be back to try more things!
google avatar

Yelp
I got the pho please, which is combo of the meats, tendons, tripe, etc. I felt that the meats were not cooked well enough-I couldn't finish and took it to-go. But, the next day when I drank the broth, I thought it was delicious! I like that they have to-go containers right next to the utensils for you to self-serve.
google avatar

Yelp
I flew into Austin for a mini trip to see some friends and was really craving some Vietnamese food. Our friends recommended eating at this restaurant because of its higher ratings. Honestly, I was pretty blown away at the portion sizes. I live in New York, so getting a place bigger than the size of my head was outside of my expectations. I think this a solid Vietnamese restaurant. I think the flavor isn't as strong as traditional Vietnamese cuisine, but this wouldn't deter me from recommending this place! The house staff was soooo kind. Probably some of the best service I've received.
google avatar

Takao N.

Yelp
Visited a few days ago. It's been a while but the service and food have not changed. Great!!! One of the best Phos in town IMO.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Food: Okay pho. Good enough to satisfy the craving, but lacked some flavor in the soup. Had some fried pork rolls as well. They were okay. Didn't come with any lettuce wrapping which is usually the standard, Service: Order and take a seat. Self serve soda machines. Ambiance: Big restaurant, lot of seating
google avatar

Joey L.

Yelp
Was taken aback at first when we visited Pho Please. Their arrangement is to order first at the counter and then sit, which is more "fast casual" than the authentic pho places we're used to in Westminster, CA. But this place tastes authentic. The pho soup tastes good with no heavy msg aftertaste on your tongue and the veggie/condiment bar means you won't have to keep asking for bean sprouts. The rice dish with pork belly was good but not as good as their pho. The pork belly was tasty but the rice portion was a bit small and the veggies included with it were nothing special. Stick with the pho - extra broth is free, additional noodle servings are $2.
google avatar

Dave G.

Yelp
Super friendly staff and service. Amazing & flavorful pho. A must stop while in Austin. It's a quick sit down dine in place with incredible value for what you buy. I ordered the rare steak and brisket as well as the vegan pho. Probably some of the best pho I've had in my life. TL;DR come here, slurp noodles, and be happy both with your stomach and your wallet.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible Vietnamese food. They don't have a huge menu but all are great and hit the spot.

Yelp
Food was great. Great tasting and fresh. Service was excellent. Cashier very informative and helpful. Answered all our questions.

Yelp
My friend wasn't feeling well, so she requested pho! I found this spot and was surprised that you pay at the counter first. She got pho, but I wanted to try their mi know dry egg noodles. Our other friend got pho and Vietnamese coffee as well. We grabbed a table and checked out the condiment bar. My noodle dish was delicious and I tried the pho broth, which had a nice flavor. The coffee did take a while to be ready though. It was my friend's first time having it and he loved it.

Yelp
I came on a Saturday afternoon and ordered their Spicy Lemongrass Bun Bo Hue to try (never having had it here). I asked if it was spicy and the cashier said she was not sure because she doesn't eat spicy but she knows others that eat it and they add more spice to it. I love that each table has a bottle of Purell and they are not empty. +1 The table I was assigned to was taken (a take out order) and the same cashier helped me ask the take out patron to move). +1 The order took a while and I wasn't aware what happened. The same cashier came by and asked if another employee came to tell me that the order's printer was broken so the orders are taking a bit longer. I said ''no one came by to tell me but thank you very much for letting me know as I was starting to wonder." She then offered me a free tea and kept me apprised that she was going to finish cleaning up the table behind me and come back. She came back with the menu of the teas and even asked if I wanted boba and jelly. +2 This employee's name is Jessica and this is top notch communication/service from her. The bun bo hue however was lacking a little flavor compared to Pho Please's sister store Sip Pho.

Yelp
It was a rainy gloomy day today and we wanted to try a new pho shop. I'm so happy we stumbled across this shop on Yelp. The reviews don't lie. We got lemon grass beef Bao Buns. Chefs kiss** I got the chicken & steamed veggie pho. It was so bright and flavorful. I really loved their condiment topping bar. I love extra cilantro and onions. It was nice you can get your own tops and how much or little you want. My husband got the grilled pork Banh Mi with an added fried egg. He was so sad when he finished it. He LOVED it. This place is also just really clean and open and welcoming. I can't wait to come back with my family and try some new stuff!
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down my GO-TO restaurant in Austin. I've been a regular here since 2018 and the food has been consistently good since then. The owners and staff are always incredibly kind and make sure to take care of me. My typical order is the pork and rice grill plate with a side order of pork belly. Also pro tip: the complimentary broth that comes with grill plates can be switched to different types. Normally comes with chicken broth but the spicy lemongrass beef one is so good!
google avatar

Kalyn M.

Yelp
Food was great and I really liked the space/ease of ordering etc. You walk in and order at the counter, they'll give you a number and you go sit at a table. Was very easy and quick. They also have a little accoutrements bar where you can get all of toppings for pho. They will come with your meal, but in case you need more or need some to go if you have leftovers. Would like to try a few other things on the menu, but was pleased with the spicy lemongrass bun bo hue (wish it would've been a little spicier, the spicy chili oil it comes with wasn't anything crazy.) the shrimp rolls were so good and refreshing! Probably some of the best shrimp rolls I've had. Looking forward to going back and trying more things!

Yelp
Pho Please is my go-to spot for Vietnamese comfort food in the South Lakeshore District area. Their vermicelli bowls are top-notch, with decent options for pho and banh mi as well. But it's their delicious baos that steal the show. Service is always fast and convenient, and the staff is consistently friendly. Highly recommended for a satisfying takeout experience.
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
Tried their Bun Bo Hue and Matcha Green Thai Tea and wow!!! Both was sooo delicious . Their broth was extremely flavorful and not overly spicy. The food came out in less than 2 minutes. I love how everything was out on the counter if you needed more condiments .

Evelyn H.

Yelp
I love this pho place, it's definitely become a go-to for quality comfort food. The broth is delicious and the service is excellent. I'm also a big fan of their fruit tea, it's very sweet.
google avatar

Alanna Y.

Yelp
This restaurant never disappoints! My boyfriend and I love going here when we're tired or it's a cold day. We have yet to get a bad dish from them. His favorite is the pho brisket, mine is the chicken and veggie pho with tofu added! We also loved the lemongrass beef! Staff is always kind and the restaurant is always clean! Would definitely return!
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Pho Please meet and exceeded the bar! The broth is flavorful and perfect in the winter weather. We ordered the raw steak &brisket as well as meatball pho. They both were abundant in meat and flavor. Starters were bao pork belly and crab ragoons with a Vietnamese coffee. I recommend it all!! We happened upon this place as Sip Pho was closed but we're happy to I'd Pho Please is a great substitute.
google avatar

Gloria C.

Yelp
Such a fun pleasing name! Who can go wrong with pho! Set up was a little different than I'm used to but I'm cool with it! You go in and place your order. Then a number will be provided and they'll bring it out to you. Delicious broth, viet ice coffee served in a mason jar.
google avatar

Jaclyn H.

Yelp
Do not recommend!! We were in Austin downtown and was looking for some viet food. This place got decent reviews and it turned out to be quite misleading. Service was excellent and the place was really bright and clean. I liked this place for that. Food: beyond bland. There was no flavors. We got 1 bun Bo hue- spicy beef; one pho, one vegan pho. And some spring rolls and egg rolls. All were not good. Total was $85. I guess I will head back to Houston for viet food
google avatar

Samantha F.

Yelp
I have been to pho please a few times over the years, but something must have happened recently for the quality to go down this much. I took my partner here, both of us ordering Bahn Mi. His was pork, mine was the lemongrass beef. They were so dry neither of us could finish them... it seemed like there was no Pattae on either of them, or mayo... or anything but veggie and meat. The fried eggrolls were super good, as well as the Boba. The place is always clean and playing good music. Overall I would say 2.5/3 stars - great service, ambiance, and drinks. Poor food choice ;(
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. Good food good service everything I had their chicken Pho the noodles are great. The chicken is good. Good temperature friendly workers overall I would say I would totally go back there again.

Yelp
Everything tastes better than you can imagine. We tried everything. Everything was 200/100 I'm someone who has to add/ shuj up my food with someone thing, but everything was perfect Incredible Bought several dishes and items for $89

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite go to pho place. I have been here a couple of times and the pho is always so consistent in flavors. I also love the fact they always have siracha and the garlic chili sauce. The best condiments to add to pho.
