I’ve been getting my knives sharpened at PKH for years and have always been very happy with their work. Nothing compares to their consistency, skill set, and customer service. I unexpectedly ended up buying a knife tonight, three months before I intended to. Tyler (I hope I didn’t get your name wrong) was absolutely great at educating me in the differences in blades, types of steel, usage, and showed me nine knives while there. What started as chatting about knives turned into a happy purchase. PKH knives are high quality, and their prices are comparable to anything you would find online. I’ve been shopping around for a knife for a few weeks now, and I’m very happy that I was able to to support a local shop.

My knives were in dire need of sharpening and one of the tips also needed repair - Phoenix Knife House took care of both. Being asymmetric knives I was a little intimidated to sharpen them myself, figured I’d leave it to the experts. They did a great job with both, I couldn’t wait to slice a sheet of paper as soon as I got home and they floated down like butter !

Excellent shopping experience. The perfect balance of options and curation—for each knife type I was interested in, I was presented with at least a dozen options and they helped me narrow it down from there. These shopkeeps are incredibly knowledgable about the craft and their wares, and they're infinitely patient with novices.

This is a professional, top notch knife store. They have quality knives at every price point. If you love to cook and value your prep experience definately go here and let them put some knives in your hand. You won’t be disappointed because they don’t have to sell you on a knife, the right knife will sell itself. Shout out to Tyler who put up with my endless questions and over-the-top enthusiasm for upgrading my pathetic collection of old, dull knives (some of which will get properly sharpened but others will go to Good Will). Best buying experience in many years. Life is good with a good knife.

Literally one of the best buying experiences I've ever had. Shopping for a new chefs knife. Pleasantly met at the counter, asked a few questions, was shown a few different types of knives, chose a base design, and then numerous knives, in order of blade hardness and edge retention, not price, which was amazing; were placed in front of me. Really felt like they wanted me to find what I wanted. As I pushed a knife away I did not like, he replaced it with a slightly differnet one until I landed on "my knife" so to speak. Will definitely return for sharpening and my next purchase. Thank you so much!

Knife House is a great shop located in Arcadia. I took a vintage meat cleaver to them and they got it sharpened and spruced up for a very affordable price. They have hundreds of knives for purchase, as well as small kitchen tools, cookware and chef wear. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Top quality products with excellent service. No pressure sales based on actually teaching you about the knife, proper technique and care. Really great resource.

Tyler was incredibly knowledgeable and worked with my budget but didn't just try to make the high end sale. We actually ended up spending about half as much as I budgeted and got an incredible knife. I was given plenty of insight to each knife he pulled down and answered more questions than I would've asked. I cant wait to purchase another knife here.

Phoenix Knife House is now the only place I will buy knives from. I was a little overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choices when I walked in, but was quickly made welcome by the amazing staff. Melissa spent time showing me a number of options, answering all my questions and helping me refine my selection. Melissa went above and beyond to make everything happen including the engraving by the date promised. I stopped in around lunch time a few days ago to get a gift for my nephew. I've been in a handful of times. This place is my Disney. Sadly I didn't get the name of the guy who helped but he was so nice. So attentive and so helpful. This place is truly a Phoenix gem. They have sooooo many knives! They have lots of really cool stuff throughout the store. It's the knives that bring me in and their people who bring me back. I walked out with s great knife for my nephew and I may have bought myself one too. How could I not?! Thank you Phoenix knife house.

Not even a question the go-to place for kitchen knives. Dedicated stores are few and far between in the States, so Phoenix is super lucky to have one. Obviously a great resource for anyone in the food industry, but also one I'd recommend to any home chefs as well. Mostly speaking to my pre-rona experience, Phoenix Knife House has an insane selection of Japanese knives - they might have European or American brands but don't quote me on that. Something you lose out on at a department store or shopping online is the ability to hold and compare knives, because a kitchen knife is really a Cinderella glass-slipper type feel: everyone has a different preference when it comes to handle styles, weight of the blade, etc. They're super helpful - can pretty much tell them what size knife and knife style you're looking for, and they'll bring them all down for you to compare. Lots of variations of carbon steels and stainless steel options. Also they're not judgmental when it comes to pricing - some knives can get really high up in the triple digits, but you can find great pieces even at the lower 1 range or possible double digits. It's not exaggerated to say one great knife can serve you way longer and with more ease than an entire knife block set, so hope you can find yours here! I'm a huge fan of getting their sayas/wooden sheaths sized to each knife I have, which will protect it in drawers - but you can also get one for a knife you already own if you bring it in! Other services include knife sharpening - can drop off and come back to pick up at a later time. Store has a decent selection of other kitchen tools and apparel, as well as hunting knives. If you get super into the practice, they also sell whetstones for you to sharpen at home. As a guy who loves to cook, places like Phoenix Knife House are like kid-in-a-candy-store level hype for me. But whether your mom needs to sharpen or replace one of her knives, or you need a decent housewarming gift, this is a great place to check out.

This store is a chef's dream. They have a wide variety of knives in different price ranges, as well as clothing and knife rolls. My knives were getting dull past the point where honing them would do any good, and I had never tried to sharpen them myself. Since prices were so reasonable ($10 per knife) I decided to head on over to let the professionals work their magic on my 6 inch santonku and 8 inch chef's knife. The gentleman in charge of sharpening was great at providing information on how to maintain my knives in better condition and I got to see some of their best stock of chef's knives. If I ever want to upgrade I know where to go! He was very cool and it was great picking his brain for great tips on how to sharpen my knives on my own and to learn about the differences between the knives they had in stock. Their turnaround time is typically 24 hours. When I came to pick up my knives they were securely packaged in a paper bag and I was on my way to dice and brunoise to my heart's content. Thanks to Phoenix Knife House my knives have never looked better!

These folks seriously know their knives. Really friendly service, outstanding knowledge and discussion re: cutlery. I purchased a cool, reasonably priced all purpose kitchen knife for someone as a gift. Wound up purchasing a very similar knife for myself. Exceptionally sharp knife. Perfect. Also, really friendly owners of this business. Great doggie hanging out interacting with customers as well. Just sayin; these guys are the Bomb as to knives. Ciao !

Knife sharpening service is top notch. The service is friendly, quick and knowledgeable- the employees taught me some knife sharpening tricks to try at home. My knives are like new, sharper than ever. The shop has lots of great cooking, grilling, foodie type gifts and accessories. Great addition to the neighborhood and the service you didn't know you couldn't live without.

If you cook the majority of the meals you eat then you know just how often a knife is needed in the kitchen. Just as having a good pan is important so is having a good and sharp knife. I brought in a set for sharpening that I had been using for close to a decade. While I was in the shop I was amazed by the selection of high-end knives and decided to ask about what was on the shelves. The pros at PKH explained the diversity of materials and the uses and maintenance of them. I ended up getting bunka knife and all I can say is wow. When I got my old knives back they were sharper than ever but I absolutely love my new one. Whether you need your old knives sharpened or are in the market for a new one Phoenix Knife House is where you need to go!

A hidden gem is what I would classify this place as. A huge selection of Japanese knives with a wide variety of price ranges, chef coats , bags and much more.

If you are in need of a good quality knife or need to have your knives expertly sharpened, this is the place to go. I drive all the way from Fountain Hills to drop my knives off here and drive back again to pick them up when they are ready. They are the only people I let sharpen my knives. As I noted before, they are also a great place to go if you want to purchase a high quality knife. Recently I was looking for a good 8" Japanese Damascus Steel chef's knife. They had some beautiful knives like this. I wouldn't say that their prices are cheap but they are reasonable. And the staff is very knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

I brought two knives here to be sharpened/refurbished. One was my 25 year old JA Henkel chef knife. I had pretty much ruined it by trying to whack a t-bone in half. It was badly damaged and un usable. They were able to grind it down some and now it looks brand new again. The second was an old butcher's cleaver. It had an edge on it already but the pros at Phoenix Knife House were able to thin out the edge just a little and put a super sharpness on it. This monster is going to cut just like a kitchen knife. Sharpening was $7 per blade and the service was friendly and professional.

This review is years overdue. I forget Yelp is for businesses beyond restaurants at times. I'm obsessed with the Phoenix Knife House. I need to go there every once in a while just to hang out (and I always have to buy something). I've bought many a present here and I'm always itching to buy another knife for the house. Phoenix Knife House carries Japanese chef's knifes - which are only sharpened on one side. They're ridiculously sharp and so cool. We have a killer set of Wusthof's that we got for a wedding present that we don't really use anymore. And we just have a few knives from PKH. While we don't need anymore really, I have to get another soon. I'm going for the Sugimoto 8" chef's knife. While they have some amazing, high end works of art (Damascus steel & such), they also carry a good selection of great knives that are super affordable. Eytan, the owner, carries knives in typical Western shape and traditional Japanese form. He also has a bunch of killer kitchen tools. Absolutely love the kitchen shears he told us to get long ago and was excited to pick up a nice fish spatula recently. This happens to be the place where many of the valley's local chefs do their knife shopping. Eytan has also expanded to carry some additional chef supplies so head over there if you need a chef's coat or clogs as well. In addition to being an authority on knives, he's a master sharpener. He sharpens all kinds of knives, is super reasonable and has a quick turnaround. In addition to the awesome product he has, Eytan is a major foodie. He is a former chef (SCI grad I think?) who worked at amazing places like Kai, Circa 1900, opened Fiamma here and did time in New York at spots like Aureole, La Côte Basque, and Craft. He is also a great guy and a wealth of information on the local food scene. I'm always following up on his recommendations. Even if you have nice knives, you should check it out. Might get converted like I did!

If you want seriously good Japanese knives- this place is your spot!! My dad brought me here to get my Christmas present- to start my knife block. We got three amazing knives and I am so stoked to build my collection. Not sure of the guy's name- really nice and really knew his stuff and was truly passionate about the knives!

I brought my EDC pocket knife in to them because I rolled the edge on the blade. The knife needed a new edge put on it to fix the portion that had came off. I dropped it off and 48 hours later picked it up. They did an amazing job at fixing the problem and putting a hair popping sharp edge back on the blade. This was my first experience with them and I am very pleased.

Culinary knives only. I'm sure it's a great place for snobby chefs. I tried calling three times to ask if they would sharpen a hunting knife. So I gave up and went in. The lady was not helpful and quick to judge. She wouldn't recommend me anywhere else "because of competition reasons". Well I found their competitor and they were happy to help me. When it comes to sharpening, a knife is a knife?

Super pleased with how well our knives came back to us. A couple of them had divets, and were in really rough shape. They had a 24 hour turn around time, the knives are perfectly repaired and back to original sharpness. Not only was the workmanship impeccable, the prices were incredibly affordable!!

You want it, they got it: Yanahibas, Gyutos, Santokus, Nakiris, Petty, Bunka, Deba, Honesukis, etc. The shop has a rad presentation, very minimalistic; they focus on the blades. The selection is expansive. They have hand hammered knives, and they have stamped knives. They have carbon clad knives, and they have mono stainless knives. They have Wa handle knives and they have Western handle knives. They have hitachi steel knives and they have other manufacturers steel. Cory is very knowledgeable and doesn't up-sell people on anything. He tells is how it is and let's you make the decision. He's also a master sharpener - I advise taking his knife sharpening class if you want to maintain your own blades. They also sell other kitchen goodies: tools, blocks, whet stones, aprons, etc. Even if don't know anything about kitchen tools it's a fun place to visit.

There to have a completely unrelated warranty issue taken care of with benchmade that needed a authorized dealer to be the intermediary and they handled it with utmost care and kept me well informed throughout the entire process! Phoenix knife house, is the name of the establishment. And it's a good name to have because they sell knives here. I have purchased many knives and as someone who doesn't work in the kitchen or know anything about knives, I have been happy because the people that work here are super knowledgeable and that's what I need. If you are Chef you're probably going to fit right in because these people know a lot about knives and you and the whoever's working can just talk about knives and maybe you can meet your best friend here

I struggled with this review. Phoenix Knife House has pretty much only 5 star reviews, did I really want to be the one who bucked that trend? But in all honesty I didn't have an amazing experience, so here it is - The location is conveniently central and there is plenty of off-street parking. The store is clean and bright. I had two Japanese knives that needed sharpening. I was told it would take an hour and they took my cell phone number and promised to call when ready. So I went across the street to Safeway to do some shopping, then on to CVS to pick up some things. An hour had passed without a call, but I figured, no big deal, so I went to JT's, a dive bar on the same strip mall as PKH. Two beers later and the time is creeping up close to 2 hours, still no phone call. So, I decide to go back to PKH in the off chance that my knives were ready and they'd just forgotten to call me. When I went back the store's empty and the owner(?) and another employee are crouched over a computer looking at a restaurant's website discussing what's for lunch. No, your knives are not ready yet, I'm told. In fact they haven't even started yet. The good news is I'm next in line. Ok, great, I'll just sit on one of the couches and wait. Here comes the line from the owner that really rubbed me the wrong way - "You can wait, but just understand that if a customer comes in, they will take precedence over you and you will have to wait longer." A customer??? What exactly am I then? I understand that my $14 knife sharpening is not as much money as you will make from selling one Akifusa Gyuto for $810, but I'd still like to think I'm a customer! I would have been happy to come back the next day and pick up the knives if that had been communicated to me at the beginning, but to waste 2.5 hours of my time and then to insult me to boot, just isn't right, no matter how good the sharpening was.

A great specialty shop that caters to chefs and cooks of all kinds. I'm continually impressed by how great the customer service is here. The staff behind the counter really knows their stuff, and will help you pick the knives and materials that are right for you... not just the most expensive stuff they can talk you into buying. The store definitely seems to specialize in Japanese knives. There is an impressive selection of stainless steel and carbon steel knives. Plus, the store has small selections of sharpening tools and stones, hunting knives, blocks, cutting boards, pocketknives, and kitchen tools. About half of the store is taken up by kitchen clothing. This has got to be a go-to place for Valley chefs, I would bet. The sharpening prices are very reasonable and I've been happy with the quality of the sharpening jobs they've done. A great store for a professional, or for an aspiring cook!

My chiropractor is next door, not to mention Dukes, so I've noticed and walked by this place many, many times but never ventured in. My mistake. It epitomizes what's best in local, passionate retail ownership and is worth a trip if that's worthy to you. It's not big or fancy. They aren't catering to the person wanting the $20 block of Ginsu knives, but they also wouldn't turn you away if you came in looking. It's simply a great place to explore a refined selection of professional quality chef's knives - which is clearly their passion. Most people are content with whatever knife is readily available, but for those who cook professionally - the right knife is as critical as a tennis racquet for Federer or a golf club to Mickelson... natural extensions to their physical skill sets. A good knife doesn't make you better, but simply betters what you do. When I visited, there were several well known chefs, looking for a new favorite tool, and I loved how they were as passionate about the design and fit as a car collector might be when it comes to craftsmanship. The feel in the hand, blade length, metallurgy, composite materials... all were factors. The owner was happy to spread dozens of choices on the counter, helping each buyer zoom in on what fit them best. When it was my turn, I was clueless, but he steered me the right way. In my case, I'm not a chef but have spent many months in kitchens, doing sexy deeds like chopping up cases of onions. So I love a good knife. And what I've since forgotten is how well a sharp knife makes a home cook's life better. You can go in with $40 or $400 and they'll find the best product for your price range. And if you don't want to buy, they'll sharpen your existing stuff.

Ive received a bundle of Japanese blades from the Phoenix Knife House and I was very pleased with the sharpness of the blade along with the blade itself.

This is seriously the best place to get a knife. Forget about Williams Sonoma, Macy's, or Sur La Table. This store is owned by a very nice guy, Eytan, and he is more than willing to help you pick the best knife. He told me that he used to intern under the owner of Korin which is the best Japanese knife store in the USA. He knows his knives in and out. I was thinking of getting the Misono UX10 and wanted to try around before buying it. This is seriously the only store in the valley that I could find that carried Misono UX10. When i was there, Eytan steered me toward Blazen gyuto/chef's knife and after trying it out, I am now a happy Blazen gyuto owner. Very sharp knife, it has a stable and comfortable handle. The Blazen is a pricier knife but it's worth it. I also got the cheap VIctorinox Pairing knife for under $10 I brought 3 of my knives to be sharpen and Eytan sharpened them for free because I bought the knives that day. The knives came out sharper than the day I bought it. Could not be happier with this store.

I too, am a fan of Knife House. The other reviews are spot on about how this is the place for all your culinary knife needs. But I was not in need of a chef knife when I first went here, I needed a chef coat. The selection was adaquate and I found a coat at a very reasonable price. But heres were this place rocks, i used adaquate cause the selection was not as big as one might hope. But I inquired about other attire Chef Works produces and the owner breaks out their catalog and says, "I can order anything you want at cost for you, I just don't carry that much stuff cause I am more of a knife store then a chef clothing store." This place deserves all of the accolades it gets. the owner is hella laid back but professional. Knows his shit and is more than happy to share his knowledge with others. If you have any culinary knife needs, this is the place to fill them.

Holy mackerel! I felt like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz after the Twister, everything was in Technicolor! They have knives over a thousand dollars! And many that aren't! But I was there to have 3 knives I'd bought used online, better knives than I've owned thus far, and one I'd bought at a thrift store with a huge chip in it, sharpened. Since I was going down there anyway, I took my favorite Dexter and a couple others that were relegated to the "crappy knife drawer". I can get chatty. You can probably tell. They only chat about knife sharpening. And they do it well. They were instantly helpful and without extra fluff explained to me exactly what I needed to do with each knife, without hard selling anything. They wanted to get back to sharpening. I wound up having them sharpen six of my knives and NOT sharpening a couple per their recommendation, and the next day walked out of there with 6 knives, better than anything I've ever used, INCLUDING one I've used for 30 years (dull for 29). I walked into work today and told the head chef, "I hope I need to cut some stuff today" and then showed him why. He dragged out all sorts of things for me to cut, and though he didn't stand there and watch me work, he could tell I was delighted to be using my new weapons. It's simple; whether you are a home chef with old knives or a struggling sous chef tired of your regular knives, do yourself a favor and go get new knives from the ones in your pile, for the cost of a decent haircut. (40 dollars for six blades). And yes, in the interest of this review, I went to the kitchen and ran my favorite knife down my arm to see if I could shave with it, and oops, yes, wound up with hair in the sink. Go get your knives sharpened! And then go across the street and get some meats at the German sausage house.

A first-class operation. The proprietor and his staff know their stuff. They were able to tell me which of my knives were worth sharpening and which should, ah, be cast away. The sharpening service is excellent. From viewing the products on display at their new location, I suspect the store really favors eastern cutlery. There is some German cutlery (Henckels and Wustof are my favorites), but the emphasis is on Japanese blades. Some of their goods are VERY expensive. However, their offerings are professional-grade knives and other implements used in professional hotel and restaurant food service. As someone who originally bought his knives from the long-gone and sorely-missed Stoddard's in downtown Boston, MA more years ago than I care to recall; I despaired that I would never find another storefront that would satisfy me. I had to move to Arizona to find a store their equal.

One day sharpening is normal. Had 6 old Hinkle`s done...$30 total. Cut better than new. Forgot how easy it was to use Sharpe knives.
