Joaquin Phoenix Celebrates Oscar Win With Vegan Burgers in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"A Westside Vietnamese outpost opened inside a mixed-use development in West Hollywood, carrying much of the same menu as the original Palms location while adding a separate pop-up kitchen where the owner and visiting chefs can host special dinners; the beverage program includes a 10-drink cocktail menu by Devon Espinosa intended to offer more than iced tea with pho, vermicelli noodles, or banh mi. It operates roughly 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (11 p.m. weekends) with the bar opening at noon (midnight on weekends)." - Matthew Kang

Came on a late Sunday, probably like an hour ish before they close. The decor/atmosphere was modern. Our waiter seemed to be the chef as he was wearing chef clothes. We ordered the roti and a couple pho bowls. Unfortunately, none of the food had any soul and flavor to it. It was very bland. The only good thing was the portion was huge, but it did not make up for the fact that it lacked flavor a lot. Maybe they were close to closing time so the broth was lifeless (?) Anyway, we can't recommend coming here for their food. Maybe for the atmosphere, hanging out at the bar area.

Absolutely loved my experience at Phorage Vietnamese Bistro + Bar in WeHo! The cheese steak sandwich was amazingly delicious and beyond anything I expected, juicy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. On a different visit, I tried their Pho Ox Tail, and it was incredibly rich and super flavory, exactly what you’d hope for in a comforting bowl of pho. The atmosphere is chill and welcoming. Shoutout to the waitress who helped me out when I couldn’t decide what to order, she was super friendly and gave me great suggestions that hit the spot. Highly recommend this gem!

Google
Came out because we heard they had $2 oyster and got our minds blown! Some of the best food I've had all year! Suculant pork on the Bahn Mi, server up on the perfect baguette which I was told is special ordered just for this location! Ridiculously crunchy Imperial rolls. Damn, and I haven't even mentioned the oysters! Valley pearls from Canada... so fresh, and delicious, each oyster took me on a journey. I was suddenly on a surfboard riding waves on a sunny beach! Thanks to the incredible staff and they're great suggestions, our experience was amazing. 10 out of 5!

Google
We called to order takeout over the phone, but when we got there to pick it up— they wouldn’t let us us our InKind credit. We offered to eat it there and then do takeaway but they wouldn’t allow that either. We still graciously picked up our order despite them not letting us use the credit but this was a mistake. The chicken vermicelli bowl was dry and the meat burnt and inedible (see photos). Overall just a terrible experience with the service and food here, we won’t be back. There are much better pho places in LA worth visiting!

Google
Our new favorite spot for the best Vietnamese food in West Hollywood. It's really high quality and taste. The garlic broccoli apetizer and the wagyu burger were our fist but not last orders here. We didn't even succeed in taking the picture of the burgers lol. Just soo yummy, I can't describe anything better than to say, it's the best. Can't wait to try more dishes. Helpful & friendly staff.

Google
Carlos and the Squad took real good care of me. Great vibes right next to TJ what’s not to love. My new neighborhood spot! Chicken pho clean but delicious! Slurp ;)

Google
Came on a Sunday evening around 6pm and the place was pretty empty. The service was great and I had no complaints about the atmosphere. The only problem I had was that the pho broth was surprisingly bland. My impression from the menu was that this is an Americanized Vietnamese restaurant and I think the pho broth proved me right. It didn't have the same salinity and flavor that I'm used to with Pho. Still, the price was right and the food was satisfying.

Google
This is my go to spot and I love the entire staff! They have great options for those who love complex deliciously flavored dishes and they also have easy simple vegan options. They’re always creating new menu items and drinks depending on the season and they never disappoint. Definitely worth an evening out! The burger, pho, mushrooms and a hopefully new item they’ll be adding (pictured below) are my favorites!

Yelp
Discovered this spot from a TikTok suggesting this as a stop along a WeHo happy hour crawl. They have a daily 3-6 pm happy hour that has a lot of great deals on drinks, appetizers, and even their raw bar. The service was really great, and we happened to come on a day that they were promoting Estrella beer, so we got some free samples. Oysters were really good, the spring rolls were eh, and we got basic drinks but he vibe of the bar was nice.

Yelp
Let's start with the positives for my first visit which was a take out order. You can order online but I'm a luddite of sorts and prefer calling my orders in so I appreciated that the person who took my order over the phone was accommodating and took care of business. The parking situation is awesome! I always come and shop at the shopping center Phorage shares with Trader Joe's and it's so easy getting in and out with their parking situation. I think it's free parking for the first hr. Now to the food. The vermicelli with Jidori chicken is quite delicious. Just great flavor and savory. This was the dish I ordered for my wife and she loved it and I tried a little bit of it and was sold on the first bite. Even my 2 yr old who's a picky eater and has been rejecting chicken as of late gobbled up his share. It came with a fried egg roll which was also tasty albeit greasy since whatever eggroll wrap they used seemed to hold in more cooking oil than I'm accustomed to but it's not a deal breaker. Now as for the Wagyu pho, it was packed well with the broth separated from the noodles and slices of beef but that's all the praise I have for it. Whatever recipe they're using for the broth is just not cutting it and needs to be replaced or seriously revamped. Sorry. Regardless, would definitely be coming back here for the vermicelli with Jidori chicken and try out other dishes but will avoid the pho.

Yelp
Pho-rage completely brought us back to life. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by happy hour and smiling faces. Carlos and the crew made sure we were more than taken care of. Best recommendations got the lemon grass, fire and papaya salad, highly recommend the Thai tea. The vibe inside is great stereo system is awesome. They even had movies playing for 100% be back with friends.

Yelp
My favorite spot for Pho. Nice ambiance. Fresh ingredients and the broth is very good. The meats are very good quality in the soups. Service is also very good. I also recommend their salads and spring rolls. They have a very nice decor to the restaurant, and a nice full bar as well.

Yelp
Just a big and plentiful bowl of deliciousness! Located in a very convenient area for shopping and people watching, I sat on the patio. The hostess and waiter were very attentive. The waiter was personable and thoughtful, not just to me but to all of his guests. I ordered the oxtail pho which came as a decent size serving. The meat just fell off the bone and was tender and meshed perfectly with the other flavors in the dish. Very good.
google avatar

Jen K.

Yelp
This review is for takeout! Very good pho for this part of LA. Organized packaging and the beef in the signature Wagyu pho is super high quality. Great broth. Could honestly use some more noodles, but a really solid meal overall.

Yelp
Stopped by Phorage for a quick bite - They offer happy hour M-F for some drink and food specials. The vibes of this restaurant is perfect. Natural light, lots of seating, fun decor, and neon lights. They have a large bar that serves liquor, natural wine, and beer. I got the shrimp and pork spring roll minus the pork. The rice paper was super soft which I appreciate and the shrimp was large. What I didn't love was the lack of herbs included in the spring roll. It was mainly lettuce and not enough mint. I actually couldn't taste the mint at all. The peanut sauce also didn't taste authentic. One of the reviews said it had mayo in it? I think Phorage is worth checking out during happy hour so you can try a couple things on the menu and decide what you like. Super cute and vibey restaurant!
google avatar

Melody A.

Yelp
Outrageous price but the amount of meat and the quality of the noodle is sufficient to make me give this place a 3 star. Probably would not come back to this place for pho but it is convenient having a parking lot next to Trader Joe's. She was unable to sub out brisket for tendon, despite me not eating brisket, but was able to add more steak instead of the brisket. The interior seems roomy and would be a nice place to eat a meal with friends or family. Plenty of street parking around the corner if you don't wanna go into the underground lot.

Yelp
The food was delicious service excellent love how cozy is the restaurant they have really good cocktails
google avatar

Yelp
Great lil spot with delicious food and great vibes PROS------- ATMOSPHERE: I was surprised how cool the interior is. Dark, vibey, intimate, modern, great music. Love it SERVICE: Our waitress was great! Very attentive and quick with a kind personality who helped us with anything we needed FOOD: We ordered a lot and everything was great! My favorite is the oxtail pho and the pork skewers. Definitely try those!

Yelp
Located in the same plaza as the Avalon West Hollywood and Trader Joe's. There's a fair amount of parking but you may need to walk a few blocks. Tried the meatball pho and the Washugyu Beef Pho - they were good, but nothing too memorable. The meat was tender and the meatballs were flavorful, however the broth was pretty bland (not in terms of salt levels but the umami just wasn't there). The portions were substantial and they give you a generous amount of protein. The noodles were a bit too soft/mushy for my liking. I love that they allow dogs outside on the patio, and they're not too crowded so we were able to have a relaxing meal without our dog getting anxious or triggered. The server offered our pup a water bowl which was nice. Not sure if I'd come back since there's plenty of fantastic pho spots in LA (Nong la is my fav), but it's pretty good if you're in the area craving some soup!

Yelp
Pretty great food. Fine service. Needs a better happy hour. Seriously solid food though.

Yelp
AMAZING HAPPY HOUR!!! I got the $2 oysters, fresh summer rolls and a glass of $7 wine. Perfect. Such a great deal and the oysters were fresh and delicious. Friendly service and a big tv if you want to catch the game. Copious parking in the underground lot (enter on Pointsettia).
google avatar

Chrystine H.

Yelp
Top quality ingredients...fun cozy ambiance w/ decent sized bar . Happy hour has great prices and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Outdoor seating behind fencing too so felt very safe dining outside. Lastly right next to Trader Joe so it was one stop shopping for me!
google avatar

Bridget D.

Yelp
I ordered the vegan pho for take out. It was good though a bit over priced. The staff were nice. My food was ready pretty quickly. The inside of the restaurant looked nice but I did not dine in.

Yelp
Food and service was great! Should be busier. Food came super quick too. Server was nice and restaurant was very clean

Yelp
Great Happy Hour Oysters $2 a piece. Had the oysters and my usual Oxtail Pho. Always fresh and delicious

Yelp
First time trying Phorage tonight and it is delicious! I got the chicken pho and one of the rolls. So filling, so comforting, sooo good. Thank you!
google avatar

Yelp
Fresh shrimp spring roll is sooo good, loved the peanut sauce. Bahn Mi was well flavored and the ambiance is really nice inside with a bar as well.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered uber eats delivery, and I called the restaurant to simply give my noodles uncooked because when you order delivery the cooked noodles are just soggy and nasty, so I cook it my self, the broth was weak, the bean sprouts and asian basil was old, wack.
google avatar

Sean B.

Yelp
You know, I was going to say something about the place being pricey, but let's be honest, West Hollywood rents being what they are, I'm sure this place couldn't really lower the prices and pay their gajillion dollar monthly rent, so I'm going to let it slide. They're always friendly, the place is spotless, the food is very good and drinks are even better. They have a few tasteful indications of being an inclusive business. They just really do a lot of things right. If I wanted cheaper food I could move to Nebraska ;-)
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
I really wanted to love the chicken pho but unfortunately it was just not good. i did order delivery but the problem lie in the gaminess and quality of the chicken. i tried to ignore it and douse it with sauce but it was inedible and i could only have a few bites. I was also a little confused at the dried cilantro or coriander. besides that, the other veggies seemed to be fresh. the noodles were a great texture. i've had other dishes here that were pretty good so it's a shame the chicken pho was not a hitter. adding on, the gaminess was highlighted due to the lack of spices in the broth. compared to the pho i've had in oc, san diego, and sj, it tasted like chicken broth instead of a pho broth.

Yelp
I seriously don't know why anyone would get Vietnamese food anywhere else in WeHo. Seriously, they do everything right! Food is perfect, never had a bad experience. Wish I could give more than 5 stars. Seriously.
google avatar

Ronnie H.

Yelp
Ambiance, Food, Service and Mostly the fact that this food feels Just SO healthy! And Fewer Calories for consumers ! Yay!
google avatar

Bruin B.

Yelp
Gotta cook the noods consistently al-dente, for both dine-in and to-go coz the hot broth 'll further cook the noods. Otherwise, it's a 5star with excellent bar drinks; yeah...the "jungle bird"...nag mr mixologist long enuf & he'll concoct 1 for you!
google avatar

Rick B.

Yelp
Bit of a hidden gem! The food was good, but the cocktails were the best part. They even have a pho themed drink that was great! Service was excellent, staff were very friendly. Ambiance was casual. Definitely going back!

Matt K.

Yelp
As most people know, there's a bit of a desert when it comes to good Asian food in the WeHo area, so I was excited to give Phorage another try. I've been going to their West LA location, and this one did not disappoint. The pho was excellent, and their broken rice dishes were just as good. Service was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Super cute place, really approachable staff, delicious food. What a gorgeous friday evening out with my partner‍‍‍. We had the place basically to ourselves and enjoyed the really cute environment and chowed down on some really good food. The oxtail phở was a game changer!!! I took it home for a snack later too. The bok choi is a must - that's SO FLAVORFUL!!
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Good food, good service, super clean and off the beaten track. There's indoor and outdoor and the food is fresh and delicious. They also serve beer and saki! Great spot.

Yelp
We found this place last minute and we are so glad we came! This place is a great family style restaurant! Our server- Alvie was amazing!! Talked with us and walk us through the menu. Had great recommendations. If you're coming here ask for him! Parking: good they have a parking garage Food: OMG soooo good! They have imperial rolls that beat Bobby flay! It's crazy good and unique! It's the only place besides a place in SF that has this roll! It's a deep fried rice roll! Guava wings - Crispy and so flavorful! HUGE. Pho - the meat was super soft the flavor felt deep Curry fries - the best! The fries were soft and crispy. They had good curry flavor but it wasn't curry sauce. Pho burger - I was too full to eat it, but it's a great speciality burger. Overall I would highly recommend this place! I will be coming back for sure. Thank you Phorage!

Susan S.

Yelp
This place is not honest. I gave a custom 15% tip for lunch but when it's charged to my cc it became 20%. They modified my bill. Lier!
google avatar

Jonarose V.

Yelp
Don't mind the lighting, we were sitting but the LED signs. We didn't mind the effort of what the restaurant is trying to accomplish. I'm sure this place is fabulous, but after having the craving of Viet Pho, this didn't hit the spot. The broth tasted salty and more soy sauce rather than the rich slow simmering of beef bones and strange. The portion was a bit small as well. The broken rice was probably the best thing we had from here. The service was fine, just the delay in getting the bill was the main thing that irritated me.

Erika L.

Yelp
Attentive staff and great food in a casual atmosphere. Friendly greeting from the beginning.

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't reviewed Phorage already. Been coming here since things opened up in 2021. I literally love this place. Alejandra and Fran we're amazing today. Food was on point, drinks were on point and service was ON POINT! I left my card and Fran rushed to get it to my by the parking structure. So appreciate of him and everything Phorage related. Don't come as often as I should but ALWAYS a good experience. First time meeting Alejandra but I see Fran all the time. Definitely a must go. @angelepatino

Yelp
Would not order from here again. Tasteless food for expensive price. Go to OTUS or LE PHO right down the street.. Chicken pho was more like chicken noodle? Broth tasted like it was from a can and had no flavor. Did not come with any veggies, I had to add Mushrooms for more $ so total came to over $21. Fresh Spring roll had no flavor and shrimp tasted strange. I just saw that it was supposed to have bbq pork? I either couldn't taste it or it wasn't in there. Even the peanut sauce was tasteless I had to make my own. I ended up throwing most of it out b/c it was so blah. Also got the shrimp papaya salad- Had absolutely no flavor at all. Also it says "black tiger shrimp" but I think it was just those weird fake looking shrimp. I had to make my own sauce with fish sauce/rice vinegar to add. I don't even think it had salt. Veggie banh mi was decent.
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
Our first time here and everything was so good. We ordered 6 items- oysters, papaya salad, imperial rolls, beef skewers, chicken wings and broken rice dish with pork. Everything tasted so good and the ingredients are so fresh. The beef skewers were a bit overcooked but the rest of the dishes were perfect. I was also surprised to see an extensive drink menu and treated myself to two glasses of the Lambrusco. The staff were super friendly and the restaurant had a nice vibe. A hidden gem and we can't wait to introduce this restaurant to our friends!

Alexis G.

Yelp
Great service and great happy hour!! The bartenders were very attentive and made sure we were doing great every step of the way! $2 oysters and the pho mojito is refreshing and unique! Ambiance is chill and inviting.

Yelp
Exceptional food, lovingly created with fresh ingredients with lots of flavor. Modern ambiance. Attentive service.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite after a workout class and was incredibly pleased. I ordered the chicken vermicelli (comes with an egg roll) and a chicken banh mi to go. I love vermicelli because it doesn't feel heavy and kinda feels like a healthy "salad" they didn't skimp out on the meat at all.. I mean look at all the chicken (hello protein)!! The lettuce, bean sprout and picked carrots were FRESH. I love a good crisp crunch! The service was just as amazing if not made the dining experience that much better. They work as a team so never once did it feel like they weren't attentive or came around often to check on you. 10/10 - would definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Julianna G.

Yelp
I went to phorage weho after I had a hard day and was excited for a warm bowl. I never write bad reviews but it was a Thursday night and no one was there. (That says something in Los Angeles) They turned me away thirty minutes before the "9pm" closing" saying they aren't serving. I check the time and ask if I was wrong about the 9pm closing. They said no- that's correct we are just not serving.....I get why you are empty on a Thursday. I feel bad for the owners that aren't seeing how the employees are turning down paying customers. Or just update your hours! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Will not be returning

Yelp
So delicious and comforting! And the perfect spice level , I'm already planning my next visit.
google avatar

Yelp
As a Vietnamese personctrying this place, I had high expectations, and Phorage did not disappoint! The oysters were amazing, and the banh beo reminded me of home. However, the maitaike mushrooms blew me away - I thought it was chicken!! The place was also very aesthetically pleasing, and perfect for pictures. Service was swift and polite too. Highly reccomend for someone who is hesitant on trying Vietnamese food!

Yelp
Food was tasteless and mediocre, we did takeout so service was fine. Would not return.

Yelp
A beautiful and quiet place. Food is yummy. Looking for a date night? Put this restaurant on your list. Recommended.

Yelp
This place is my neighborhood Pho place. They have the best burger! Their Pho is pretty good too.
google avatar

Tiffanie Y.

Yelp
My boyfriend brought me food from here once and now I can't stop coming to this place! I'm Vietnamese and tend to be picky with Vietnamese restaurants but I'm addicted to this place. The vegan banh mi is probably my favorite. The food is always fresh here and I've never been disappointed!

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Recently got the chance to visit Phorage WeHo on my visit to LA. Was definitely worth the visit! All the apps were delicious with some notable ones being the fish sauce wings as well as the hamachi. The drinks were also very unique and satisfying, I had the Caribbean snowdrift which was nice and refreshing. The space was ambient and chill, perfect for a special weekend dinner, and the service was great too. Overall I would definitely recommend and plan on coming back!
google avatar

Yelp
I have been looking for a good Vietnamese spot close to work and have had no luck. Most are bland and just not what I am looking for. I have passed this place a hundred times going to Trader Joe's and today I finally decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. The food was fresh and tasty and really hit the spot. I had the bahn mi and all I can say is it was delicious and made me so happy. It isn't the cheapest but it was worth it because I only ate half and saved the rest for dinner. I am super excited to come back and make my way through the whole menu! The guy that took my order was really nice. I may have missed the lunch rush because it was pretty empty around 2p. The place looks nice and clean inside so I think I will definitely dine in next time.

Yelp
I had a horrible experience here once before and I said I'd give them another chance and although they offered to take care of it if I came back I declined because I wanted to do it without a heads up to see if they would deliver and they did. Food was good and the ambiance was chill. Great comeback!
