San Diego’s Best Chicken Wings | Eater San Diego

"The well-established Vietnamese restaurant has a vast menu of hundreds of dishes but one of its signatures is its chicken wings, often ordered in party platter-sized portions, which come fried with garlic and butter or in a sweet and savory fish sauce glaze. They require extra time — so make sure to order them first. Expect a homey, diner-style interior with just as many bowls of steaming pho flying out of the kitchen as wings." - Eater Staff

"One of San Diego’s most beloved longtime Vietnamese restaurants, this Convoy Street establishment offers over 200 dishes to choose from. There is something that will satisfy any craving from broken rice entrees to pho noodle soup and its famous garlic butter chicken wings. Try the seven-course beef dish for two that includes vinegar fondue with beef, grilled beef, and ground beef in grape leaves." - Helen I. Hwang

15 Essential Spots for Affordable Eats in San Diego

"Though Phuong Trang serves up more than two hundred dishes (from noodles, soups, and rice dishes), its eight styles of beef broth-based phở stand out. Go meatless for $7.95, add steak or beef meatballs for $10.95, or for $12.50 opt for shrimp. Vegetarians might order the tofu with lemongrass and hot peppers, or the vermicelli noodle bowl with vegetarian egg rolls served with fresh mint." - Ligaya Malones

Phuong Trang Opening Modern Vietnamese Spinoff - Eater San Diego

"A Convoy Street staple since the early 1990s, Phuong Trang is one of San Diego’s most popular spots for Vietnamese cuisine, often topping city ‘best’ lists and drawing groups and families to its lazy Susan-topped tables. The Kearny Mesa eatery offers a menu that spans more than 200 items, a dizzying list that ranges from pho and rice paper wraps to stir fried noodles, broken rice dishes, and seafood specials; some signature dishes include salt and pepper shrimp, garlic butter chicken wings, whole fried catfish, and seven-course beef." - Candice Woo

This place is always packed—be prepared to wait for a table! For groups of five or more, an automatic 18% gratuity is added. They used to be cash-only for a while, but now they accept cards, which is convenient. The staff are all Vietnamese, and the food is incredibly authentic—full of bold, fresh flavors. That said, service can be hit or miss; don’t expect much warmth or attentiveness, but the dishes make up for it. A solid spot for no-frills, traditional Vietnamese cuisine!

Google
Ate here last week and walked out confused—how is this place sitting at 4.3 stars? I'm guessing it’s mostly from non-Viet folks who don’t know what good Vietnamese food actually tastes like and maybe got mad the bún chả wasn’t shaped like an egg roll. This spot is solidly in the top 10% of Vietnamese joints in SD. Not just passable, not just "hey that was decent," but actual oh wow, this reminds me of that place in Westminster level good. We had the bún bò Huế—solid spice, deep broth, actual huyết cubes (not for the TikTok crowd, but real ones will get it). The bò lúc lắc came out sizzling, maybe a touch sweeter than I’d like but still demolished. Cha gio? Golden, crisp, not oily. And the nuoc cham didn’t taste like watered-down fish sauce from a Sysco bottle. Place is packed, but service moved fast. Respect to the staff for still being friendly while clearly in the weeds. Is it fancy? Nah. Do you need it to be? Also nah. You’re not here for the vibes. You’re here to eat like your auntie made a meal you didn’t totally deserve. If you live in San Diego and think this isn’t good Vietnamese food, I have questions. Mostly about your tastebuds. And your upbringing.

Everything was very yummy and well done, the pho broth was a bit salty for my taste though. Otherwise, very yummy food.

great food, great service, nice selection, and clean place. Prices were fair as well.

Pho was good. Summer roll was really bad, the skin was too dry and hard. The spring rolls were nice, a bit too hard outside too but next time get the pho for sure. Cash / Venmo only .

I’ve been coming here for decades, so I figured it was time to leave a review. We’ve never had any bad experiences, with the exception of maybe waiting too long for our food to arrive after placing our order (rare occasion). Other than that, it is a very clean & tidy establishment, and the food taste & quality is always very consistent. The portion sizes are decent. The staff is always on top of it. Funny to read some of the reviews stating the customer service is horrible. They may not be ultra friendly, but they are quick and attentive. It’s definitely one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in San Diego.

After shopping, we wanted to have Vietnamese noodle. So we decided to check out Phuong Trang. Finding parking is always a challenge in Convoy Street area, especially on weekends. But this Saturday, there were ample parkings. This restaurant has lots of seating indoor so we got seated without wait and waitstaff brought us hot tea as requested. We ordered three dishes: bun rieu ground shrimp with eggs vermicelli soup in light broth with tomatoes, fried tofu and Vietnamese ham; and calamari salad which has shredded papaya, cucumber, celery, carrots, topped with marinated calamari, crushed peanuts, fresh mint and toasted sesame seeds and lastly, the house special broken rice combo which has shredded pork, steamed egg meatloaf, ground shrimp wrapped in tofu, grilled chicken, slices of tomatoes and cucumber, salad, pickled carrots and radish and broken rice. The hot vermicelli soup was simply delicious comfort food for us. We loved the savory grounded shrimps, eggs and tomato broth. Calamari salad was surprisingly well prepared with fresh ingredients and tender marinated calamari. So good! The grilled chicken and steamed egg meatloaf rice combo was a hit for our group. Waitstaff was attentive and food came out fast. This restaurant offers very authentic Vietnamese cuisine, generous portions, lots of options and budget friendly. We will definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu.

Google
We love this place! The food is always delicious, they're accommodating for special requests (like removing certain items), and the wait is never too crazy. Very popular with the local asian community, which also says something about the quality of the dishes! The only downside is that it's so popular that it's sometimes hard to find parking.

Yelp
BAD BUSINESS! We drove 15 minutes to get to this place, arriving 18 minutes before closing time. However, when we got there, we were turned away and told they were already closed. This was frustrating, especially since the hours listed on Yelp clearly indicated they should have been open for another 18 minutes. While it was disappointing, we weren't too upset since we've eaten here before, and the food is nothing special--just a basic option when you're craving something like pho. On top of that, we noticed a new sign on the door saying they only accept cash now, which was an inconvenience. Overall, it feels like poor business practice. We won't be returning.

Yelp
My colleagues recommended this place, checked out the reviews, read a few articles and glad to finally check this place out. AMBIANCE: Parking: Tight parking plaza so come early, carpool, or rideshare. Seating: Inside seating, plenty of room! Good for pairs or large groups. Total, maybe about 50 people. Vibes: Welcome to Convoy! A busy industrial-esque area with mainly a lot of eateries. The spot itself is pretty nice. A warm environment with simple homage to their Vietnamese culture here and there. The natural lighting is nice along with the Vietnamese elevator music. It's great for a solo food adventure or a group hangout FOOD: Garlic Butter Wings (Recommend) Delicious! A delightful crunch with a mix of spicy and savory flavors. The peppers, garlic, and green onions give it a good kick. Glazed Wings (Recommend) People usually are intimidated by fish sauce however this has a nice subtle taste to the wings. Reminds me a bit of sweet and sour, impressive how it maintains a good crunch. Fingerlicking good, especially as it's pretty sticky. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! I called ahead of time and my order was ready and transaction was relatively simple. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Excellent! A wide menu, delicious food, reasonable prices, and a pleasant experience. There may be a lot of Vietnamese spots but this stands out with the range of delicious (classic and a bit modern) dishes to quality flavors. I wish Chef Tina Tran and Phuong Trang Team all the best! #RepresentASIAN TIPS: * Cash or Venmo only!

Yelp
The food is always great here. Extremely fresh and healthy. We had the giant catfish tonight. We also had beef grape leaves and fried rolls. Everything's fresh and delicious and came out hot. Service is good Real friendly. Easy to park and didn't have to wait for a table. Highly recommend trying this place.

Yelp
This is my mom's go to spot. They have excellent chicken wings and spring rolls. The food here is consistently good. The service is okay. They can host bigger groups.

Yelp
CASH or BUSINESS VENMO This place has been my steady go-to for solid Vietnamese eats in Kearny Mesa. Parking's generally easy (which is a relief on Convoy), and you can usually find a seat without needing a reservation. The vibe? Old-school Chinese/Vietnamese, nothing fancy but great for groups if you're keeping it casual. We ordered the char-grilled pork rice paper wraps ($17.50) and the catfish sautéed in fish sauce ($17.95). The wraps come with plenty of veggies and rice paper to roll your own. The pork's super flavorful with a nice char that hits the spot. Rolling those wraps was oddly satisfying, and by the end, I was pretty sure I could start a summer roll side hustle. The catfish is definitely a bolder choice. If you love a punchy, funky fish sauce that's caramelized to sweet savory glaze, you're in for a treat. The fish is soft, and the sauce is seriously addictive. Fair warning: this dish has bones, but the flavor makes it totally worth the extra attention. Service is quick and friendly, and while it's nothing flashy, this place is always a reliable option when you're craving Vietnamese comfort food.

Yelp
I use to ALWAYS come here to eat their pho!! The beef pho is always so flavorful and I can finish the extra large by myself. The noodles are legitly so good. I would recommend dipping the meat in the sauces that they offer. I also really love the chicken wings here, especially the ones that are made with the fish sauce. (I WOULD RECOMMEND THE CHICKEN WINGS IF YOU HAVE NEVER TRIED IT BEFORE) this place does get crowded, so sometimes you have to wait. Would recommend for sure :) The prices are also very reasonable and I would recommend the Jasmine Green Tea! The flavor is very tasty!

Yelp
If you're looking for a Vietnamese spot with a ton of options. This is the spot to go to. We love coming to this spot whenever people cannot decide what to eat. If you're looking for something unique this spot has baked catfish for you to eat with spring rolls. In addition the service here is amazing as they are very tentative. The ambiance of this spot feels very family ran. I would recommend this spot.

Yelp
My partner and I visited here for the first time on Sunday 8/11/24 at around 4:30 pm. When we came inside, the person who helped us asked if we noticed their sign on their front door that said their card reader system was down. I thought it was really considerate that they double checked if we were able to pay in cash or Venmo before we were seated. They gave us our menus and a seat by the window. This is a space with a good variety of table sizes, and they even have privacy dividers between some of the smaller tables that are close together. I also noticed that they have a very big menu of options, but on average, most of their dishes are in the $10-20 range. What we ordered: The rare steak pho- I thought that their broth was fantastic. I usually add lots of hoisin sauce and sriracha to my pho at other restaurants, but here, I was really happy with the broth as is. It was really aromatic. It came with a lot of white and green onion as well. The vegetarian crepe- It takes a little bit longer to make, but it's worth the wait! The outside is a golden brown and crispy crust, and the filling had a healthy amount of bean sprouts, fried tofu, and mushrooms. It also came with a large plate of fresh greens like basil, cilantro, and lettuce.

Yelp
My family and I have been coming for over a decade and it used to be our go to spot for Vietnamese food. It's generally easy to find parking outside and we usually get seated right away. They have a wide variety of menu items and have solid options. I either get the pho tai or crispy noodles and both are good. However last time I went, I thought the food wasn't as flavorful and good as I remembered so I was a bit disappointed.

Yelp
First time trying this place with the family and we enjoyed it. Loved the fresh produce and generous portion for banh xeo, cơm tấm (rice plates). If you order pho probably more worth it getting their đặc biệt (special) I got their tai sách and it had plenty of noodles but not enough protein. Service was great and place is clean and spacious. We got there right before they opened and there was already a line. Will return for their rice plates.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
We were trying all the places in SD that have some Banh Xeo, we found 2 in the area so far that have good ones. It looks like an omelet or crepe and it's filled with meat or shrimp and sprouts. Visited Phuong Trang, and they have a Banh Xeo. I ordered one of their Soup and Ban Xeo for my wife and we are both excited about how the Banh Xeo here. The soup has a light flavor and our Banh Xeo was burnt and not much flavor on the inside fillings. Completely different compared to the other Ban Xeo we tried in Sd. Parking is a very horrible, small area for parking. But the service was nice and fast here.

Yelp
Venmo and Cash only business! My husband and I visited on a Tuesday evening craving something hot and homey. We order their large combo Pho and Bun Bo Hue, both are decently flavored, and satisfied my craving then. The thinly sliced meats in Pho seem to be tougher in texture than other Vietnamese restaurants we visited in the area, but they had plenty of other cuts (tendon, tripe etc), which made up for it. Their service was good. There was a couple sitting next to us having trouble deciding on their orders and wanted to try everything, the server was very kind to let them know that they can mix and match and customize however they want since "it's not a busy night". I will say though, their portion is smaller and price range slightly steeper in comparison to Pho Duyen Mai for example. Parking was not a problem on a week day night, but is definitely something we will take into consideration when choosing which Vietnamese restaurant to go if we are craving pho on the weekends.
google avatar

Kristy S.

Yelp
This place used to be one of my favorite go to Vietnamese restaurants and I'm sure what happened to this place but quality of food just isn't the same anymore. Visited this place on a Wednesday night and it was fairly busy, the sign on the door said CASH ONLY OR VENMO and we were okay with that. But ordering our food, my daughter found a hair fried in her garlic wings. The server apologized and came back with a fresh set of wings. The steam rice was hard, not fresh. Food was salty, not good like I remembered. Such a bummer cause we really enjoyed this place and it just went downhill.
google avatar

Wendy G.

Yelp
Unfortunate experience here last Sunday night. Arrived at 7:15 pm after a long flight home, craving Vietnamese food. The host said they were closing and couldn't seat me even though the posted hours say closes at 8 pm. No additional explanation was given. I've never had a restaurant deny service 45 full minutes before posted closing time, so sadly had to make other plans. Diners beware.
google avatar

Arman S.

Yelp
Excellent Vietnamese food. Would definitely recommend. Reasonably priced. ATM they only take cash and Venmo. They also add 18% on big parties.
google avatar

Eileen P.

Yelp
Pho was amazing as always with the exception of the large fat chunks on the well done brisket. Minus stars for that, the slow and impersonal service and the fact that they won't take any credit cards at all. Cash or Venmo only.
google avatar

Susan H.

Yelp
This is the best authentic Vietnamese restaurant I've eaten at. The chargrilled pork vermicelli dish was amazing; their egg rolls so fresh, crunchy and delicious; the garlic chicken wings were fried to perfection and it was very tasty. My friend had broken rice with grilled pork chop veggies tofu and other yummy stuff on her dish which we also enjoyed very much. Can't wait to go back again to try some other dishes.
google avatar

Cathee C.

Yelp
I used to think the food and service here were mediocre and that they cater more to the American pallet. I dined here recently on Lunar New Year with my family and I've officially changed my mind. All the dishes were great. My favorites were the Bo La Lot (DIY grilled betel leaf beef in rice paper wrap with veggies), the fish sauce wings (so crispy, savory and sweet), and grilled crispy cat fish (must come early, they sell out fast). Service has improved greatly from years ago. Wait time is long especially on the weekends, upwards of close to 2 hours for parties greater than 4. Parking lot is always packed. It's a casual place but I loved the huge menu and very flavorful dishes. Viet parents approved.

Yelp
Phuong Trang is our go-to spot for family celebrations, especially birthdays. The fried catfish wrap family style is a must-try, and the group-style dinner adds a communal charm to the experience. The rich history of the place adds a unique touch, and the consistently impeccable service keeps us coming back. The diversity among the customers reflects the universal appeal of Phuong Trang--it truly captures hearts with its delicious offerings and welcoming atmosphere.

Yelp
They are located in a plaza that has a bigger sized parking lot compared to others on Convoy street. They have a separate male and female bathroom available for customers. We come here especially for the oven-roasted catfish! It takes them a while to make it so order it as soon as you sit down (we ordered it as we were being seated, even before we got our water). 5 of us were the first to enter as soon as they opened at 11am, and there were 4 other tables with couples. All of their food (mostly pho and egg rolls) came out before our catfish came out. So that gives you an idea how long it takes to make it (came out at 11:35am so took about 30mins). So keep that in mind! We ordered egg rolls to munch on while waiting. The catfish is crunchy on the outside with roasted garlic (where the flavor of the garlic is not too strong) and the meat of the fish is super soft! They don't salt it so the meat itself is not salty or seasoned so it is good for those watching their salt intake or for kids. With 5 of us eating, we still had quite a lot left of the fish to pack home. It is an impressive and fun meal to have when you have a big group.
google avatar

Melania T.

Yelp
I've been here 5-6 times in the year of 2024, last time I went was December 2024. I always grab the Bun Bo Hue. The portions has gotten smaller and smaller. The size of the bowl feels like for kids. I'm an Asian female and my appetite is not big, so that says something. The last time I went the broth was extremely salty. They only accept cash now. I would still go but just be aware of that.

Yelp
We absolutely love Phuong Trang. It is so authentic, flavorful, and always such a pleasure here. It truly takes us back to our last trip to Vietnam. It is also one of the best Pho broths I've ever tasted!!
google avatar

Raymond N.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday with my family visiting from out of town. The staff were quick to seat us however we ordered the baked catfish. The table that we were sat at was too small for what we ordered. The catfish took up a lot of space on the table and I was surprised we weren't offered to move to a larger table to accommodate our meal. It was quite difficult to eat with limited space. The family enjoyed the meal but we all wished for a larger table.

Yelp
I don't love writing bad reviews because I like to try and highlight the positives of each restaurant, but I wanted to share this in case someone might relate or understand where I am coming from. I was visiting San Diego, and I saw that this restaurant was highly reviewed, so I wanted to listen to the internet (subtle foreshadowing). It was so hard to order I sat there for 25 minutes trying to wave someone down, and while I was getting my order taken, their eyes were scanning the rest of the room and not repeating what I was saying but just scribbling quickly as to leave quickly when the restaurant truly was not busy (half empty). We ordered the mango and calamari salad, and this was by far one of the worst dishes I've received at any restaurant. I've gotten this dish many times at a variety of Vietnamese restaurants, but I've never had one with rice powder or such a gritty and not tasteful outer coating on top of the frozen and soggy pieces of squid (there was a brown hue to everything and that should not be the case for this dish). We also got the Bun Rieu which is my favorite Vietnamese noodle soup, and it was alright but lacking the tomato flavor and depth. We got the Bo Luc Lac which was fine, but it was just beef, butter, onions, and rice with frozen peas and carrots. It felt like there was no effort placed into the dish that was over $20 which is so disappointing. The egg rolls we ordered were very crispy, but the filling inside did not have much meat flavor and felt like an egg roll with starch. On top of that, when we tried to send it back, the waitress questioned us about what was wrong with the dish. I explained that it was so bad that we could not even finish our initial bite, and it truly tasted dirty and not edible. She said "it's on the menu; customers should read the ingredients before ordering." I gave her a blank stare just flabbergasted. She explained she could not send anything back unless there was something inherently wrong with the dish and I was trying to explain that there was, but she gave attitude, rude looks, and walked off. That took away my appetite for the rest of dinner. When we left to pay (they only take Venmo, Zelle, or cash very sketchy), I looked at our receipt and there was a 18% automatic tip. I asked "is there a mistake or is this some type of recommendation" and the cashier simply stated "You had a party of 6 didn't you?" and then points to the fine print of the menu (I mean VERY FINE) that states an automatic gratuity will be charged for parties of 6 or more. I was flabbergasted as it seemed everyone's response for problems were "read the menu" when a simple explanation would have sufficed. I have no problem paying money or abiding by policies, but it felt as if we did something wrong as customers when we just walked in the establishment. I will never come back to this place and I hope you do not either. I did not take pictures because I did not want to remember this experience.

Yelp
Even though it was quite packed on a Saturday night, we got seated right away. It looked like a lot of viet families eat here so I knew it must be good! They have a huge menu and I was excited to try viet dishes other than pho. The food was super yummy and had generous portions. I would definitely return to try more viet dishes :) food ordered - glazed wings (half order - 6): very thick wings with a sticky sweet and salty coating! wish it was more fish saucey but very tasty nevertheless - house special broken rice: I got this because it had a variety of stuff on it! The chicken was well seasoned. I liked the egg meatloaf and shrimp in tofu. There was also shredded pork but it wasn't my favorite - rice paper rolls with chicken: a huge portion of chicken and veggies with plenary of rice paper for us to build rolls. very fresh!
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
I've been here twice now. The first time I came I got the pho and from what I remember it was nothing special. After my boyfriend told me they were more known for their broken rice plates I decided to give it another try. And wow am I glad I gave it a second chance! I got the house special broken rice with chicken and mmm mmm mmmm. The chicken was so flavorful and juicy. The rice perfect as broken rice usually is. The egg and the shrimp meatloaf thing was delicious!!! Portion of the plate is huge! I was full after eating half and usually I am the type of person to always finish my food. Long wait on a sunday for lunch, but parking wasnt as bad as it is during dinner on the weekends.
google avatar

Kristen W.

Yelp
We came around 6 on a Saturday night. There was not wait, but by 7pm there was. Restaurant has bigger tables for larger parties too. Bun Bo Hue (3/5): The broth was ok and didn't have any beef or pork flavor to it. It was also very salty. The bowls here are on the smaller side. They don't give you banana blossoms as part of the veggies. I wouldn't come back here for this dish. Garlic Butter Wings (3/5): Garlic and butter flavor is pretty faint. The wings did come out crispy though. The full order comes with a good amount of wings. House Special Rice Plate (3/5): You get a good amount of food. Everything tasted good but nothing outstanding. The tau hu ky (shrimp wrapped in bean curd sheet) was soggy, it's supposed to be crispy from being fried. Overall, it was an okay meal.
google avatar

Cuong T.

Yelp
Lots of parking and were sat sat down quick. Came for the fish per IG but there was no way in hell we were gonna pay $100 for a catfish that is worth 3 servings (that was market price apparently). We actually saw catfish being sold in a local supermarket later for 6.99/lb and were ticket off again after seeing that. For reference, in OC you can get some catfish for $40-$70 that serves 3-6 people depending on what size you get. We ended up getting the rice paper fried rolls and betel leaf beef sausages and they weren't bad. Nothing screamed amazing but it certainly wasn't bad tasting either. Service was non-existent. Bring you your dishes and that's it. The pronouns they use are rude too (in Viet language, not English). 5/10, would come again if I was highly incentivized but wouldn't recommend to a friend.
google avatar

Marcel T.

Yelp
Food 4 / 5 Beef with grape leaves and glazed chicken wings was the best thing we ordered. Wonton Noodles were just ok. Service and Ambiance is just ok. Nothing memorable.
google avatar

Allison L.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for over a decade so it has a special place in my heart. The pho and rice dishes are my go to. The nem nuong sauce was a bit sweet for my liking. Was easy to find parking and get seated right away on a Friday 5pm and service was great
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Came here on Sunday at 7:10, and we were told it's closed even the yelp hours says 8pm. What kind of fucking restaurant close at 7 on Sunday? You might as well just close
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Having lived in SD and coming to this restaurant since 2017, it's always been my favorite spot for pho here. I feel that the quality has gone down a bit because their fried egg rolls weren't as crispy this time and the pho broth wasn't as clean-tasting as before. Regardless, their food is still amazing and comes with clean & fresh veggies! Prices are average and the thai tea is delicious--not too sweet and not watered down. Their regular (smaller sized) bowl is my go-to so that I can also enjoy other food items! I always leave super full & satisfied. Their service is fast and straight to the point which I love. For those who don't like sharing a huge sauce bottle at restaurants, they serve their sauce in individual packets. Parking can be difficult at night so I recommend getting there earlier than you expect to eat to account for the waiting time from finding a parking spot.
google avatar

Ann H.

Yelp
My husband and I were craving some pho and I found a place we had not tried before. I was surprised by how packed it was as Convoy has so many restaurant choices. We just beat the dinner rush but I could see the line forming after we were seated. The spring rolls tasted fresh and was a perfect appetizer. I had the bun bo hue and the flavor was delicious. I am disappointed however that they didn't have pork blood cake or pig feet in the dish as I always see that in bun bo hue. My husband got a pork chop combo rice plate and found that satisfying as well. Overall great place to grab pho.
google avatar

Allen T.

Yelp
This place holds a special place in my heart. I used to come here often when I first lived in San Diego 20 years ago, and it feels like the same family still owns it. For it to remain a staple in the Kearny Mesa Asian area for so many years says a lot. Their fried egg rolls are the best-never disappointing. They're always hot, crunchy on the outside, and tasty on the inside. With fresh herbs, they alone are worth coming back for. My other go-to is the regular combo pho. The broth is always flavorful, and the meat is very tender. While there are a few other Vietnamese and pho spots I like in San Diego, this place is among the best.
google avatar

Christopher T.

Yelp
The servers are not friendly and the food is OK. I had the egg roll w/pork vermicelli which was fine and the tropical fruit dessert, alful! It was NOT good, didn't looklike the picture, and it was mostly ice. I will not come back and everyone should avoid this place.

Yelp
3/22/24 - my first time here. I was sitted at around 11:50am, no wait. A large menu of soups and plates to choose from. I ordered the ĐẶC BIỆT 16.50, House Special Noodle Soup Combination of shrimp, fish cake, calamari, chicken, imitation crab and cha-siu pork in an X. Large bowl. I wasn't disappointed. The soups arrived within 5 minutes. Also, they gave you lots of sauces to add to it if you wish. Total bill was around $18. I will come here again. Very nice customer service. Check photos out.

Yelp
BTW, lots of fake 4 - 5 reviews as well. You can tell based on the pictures, have numbers on the pictures. The food really is just fine. Many better options in the neighborhood. DO NOT RECOMMEND this place!

Yelp
Used to be good and we would visit semi regularly. Noticed yelp review seems to be lower than I remember and was surprised. After trying it I feel the place has gone downhill, almost not edible. Sad but will not be back

Yelp
How I haven't done a review on this place yet boggles my mind! But to be honest, I can only review one item from their menu. We come here for one thing and one thing only: Garlic wings with butter. Now I'm no expert in the kitchen when it comes to combining flavors. Actually, I'm no expert at all because I don't cook. But I know flavor when I taste it. Let me take you on a journey through the greatness of this chicken wing. The aroma is of hot steamy garlic and butter. Your mouth will be watering before you even open the box. Garnished with garlic bits, lemon grass and green and red bell pepper slices. The crunch is euphoric. Thats right, I said that. Your first bite is crispy and crunchy, salty and sweet, garlicky and buttery all in one!! The inside is moist which pairs heavenly with the outside crunch. I'm a condiment junkie but these chicken wings need no added flavors to them. You would actually ruin it by using any sauces in my opinion. They are not cooked until you order. So expect at least a 20 minute wait. You can order a half order at $12.99 or full order at $22.99 plus tax. Definitely worth it. 10/10. We can't leave San Diego without stopping here and getting 2 full orders. It's a must every single time.

Yelp
My cousin and I were both craving pho (again LOL) and saw this restaurant was nearby. Turns out, I've been to this restaurant 7 years ago LOL. Right when we parked, I got major deja vu from the store front and remembered exactly where I sat previously. I also remembered that the pho here was delicious! It's located in between MNGO Cafe and Hardcore Fitness in the Convoy Plaza Shopping Center on Convoy St in Kearny Mesa. There's a parking lot with ample stalls. The restaurant is very hard to miss as the name of the restaurant is HUGE, literally screaming at the customers to go in LOL. The restaurant space itself is also very big which can accommodate huge parties. I got their small combo pho (Tô Tái, Nạm, Gầu, Gân, Sách) with the rare steak on the outside. Mmm. The broth was delicious! It still had a "cleanish" flavor but not as much as the Asian-fusion Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. There was a really good portion of meats in which they were all very tender. I'd say the small combo pho was more than enough for me. My cousin ordered their large combo pho, and he was struggling. He didn't realize how big the portions were until it came out LOL. I noticed that they had packets of sriracha, hoisin, and chili which was very interesting. I asked the server if they had a side of chili oil, and they did! Love my chili oil in my broths! Definitely a favorite in my books! Will be back in the future and HOPEFULLY try another dish from them as there the menu is vast with options.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. We got the spring rolls to share and they tasted of fresh ingredients and worked nicely with the sauce they gave us. We also tried their vermicelli noodle bowl with fried egg rolls and char grilled pork. The egg rolls were wonderfully crunchy and flavorful. The pork was also tender and juicy. The egg rolls and pork combo is really the way to go since both are so tasty. There were lots of veggies in the bowl and the fish sauce made it nice and flavorful. We also got the pho with rare steak and brisket. The broth was delicious and light. This was perfect for the cold day. We would be happy to come here again to try one of their many other dishes!

Yelp
This place has the BEST com tom (broken rice) I've ever tried! I love how their pork is seasoned so well with a lil char on it too... I had to come here recently because I had a dream about eating their com tom because it's that GOOD!! Pro tip: add chili garlic sauce into the fish sauce before pouring it over the com tom. thank me later.

Yelp
After coming back from a month long vacation in Vietnam, I missed Vietnamese food so much! Phuong Trang had everything I ate over there on their menu. An extensive menu, but the items we chose were ALL delicious! Our table shared a fried catfish, the catfish was massive. I only took a photo of it's face though. I loved that the skin was really crispy and the fish inside was still moist and flaky. It tasted really yummy wrapped in rice paper with the multiple veggies available: cucumber, daikon/carrots, pineapple, lettuce... We also shared two different kinds of spring rolls. The peanut sauce was more hoisin than anything but still enjoyable. The rolls were thick and long, so we asked for a knife to cut it into sharing pieces. In addition to that we ordered the crispy vegetable noodles (you break it up and mix it with the sauce at the bottom), and shaking beef (made medium well) with fried rice. I liked the fried rice because of the green peas and the sweet charred carrots. It had enough sweetness, umami, and fried-ness to it. The beef was tender and not overdone! I never ordered my shaking beef to a certain level before so hats off to my aunt for ordering it like that. It came out on a hot sizzling plate and remained like that for a good portion of the time. The noodles were tasty as well, it was nice because it wasn't overly salty. The veggies had a good crunch to them and weren't mushy at all. The only thing I probably didn't enjoy was the fried tofu. This one was really salty in my opinion. Even when dipped in peanut sauce. But everyone else at my table enjoyed it. I did like the fact that it was crispy on the outside and really silky soft on the inside. It reminded me of the fried tofu I had in Ha Noi. Service was great! Workers came around the table seeing if we wanted to order anything else. And to refill our waters. There were two sections of seating areas. This restaurant is really large and can hold many people. We had twelve people and shared two round tables. The odd thing was their closing time, it mentioned like around 8-9pm and we definitely were there past the closing time but they didn't shoo us out or anything. I think they should alter that time because they are a great spot and I'm sure many people would come by if it was open up till 10pm. I saw this place once before when I was going to Mngo Cafe and I told myself I'd come try it out one day. (:

Yelp
Mainly wanted to get their fried catfish plate but I don't recall the prices being this high in the past so we ended up getting their pho instead which was decent. Not the best I had but acceptable. Looks like they are understaffed and they closed like a good 1/3 of their space.

Yelp
this place has been on my list to try for almost a year and finally got to it. My go to Vietnamese spot was pho point loma and grill but i think this may be replacing that. Came on a wednesday at 12pm. Line out the door and place was heavily occupied. it was about a 20 minute wait. Got the following: Salted fried tofu with white rice Fried egg rolls Beef cubes with fried rice Egg noodles in beef stew Everything was packed with flavor and good portions. Beef cubes came out in sizzling plate and everyone was all ooooh and ahhh at the dish lol I would like to come back with a group to try the whole catfish that is oven roasted as that looks really yummy. Will definitely be back to this place!

Yelp
I am feeling mixed about this place because it brings back fond memories and has quick service. The reason for the 3 star is that the quality feels different. For example the chicken broth in the Pho Ga feels watered down and the chicken was tougher than leather. The bowl was a bit dirty and the spring roll was stuffed more with veggies than meat. The Hoesin sauce and Siracha were now in packet form. We also didn't get bean sprouts and jalepenos to add into the pho. There are many other Pho places at this price point. The highlights: Lots of noodles give. And the fried egg rolls and quick. Low lights: Broth was just ok. Not cleanest in my experience. No paper towels in bathroom when I went.

Yelp
Very mediocre food compared to the hundreds of other Viet restaurants. The hủ tiếu and bánh xèo did not really taste like anything. Hủ tiếu was overly salty and overwhelming in just a few bites which was the same problem for the banh xeo. Fish sauce didn't have much color or flavor. Service was adequate. Would not come here again.
