17 Atlanta Restaurants to Explore Dishes From Around the African Continent

"For a conventional Ethiopian dining experience with farm fresh dishes and live entertainment, head to this Scottsdale restaurant. While there, order customary drinks such as honey wine (tej) or tella (fermented beer). A traditional coffee service with servers decked out in Ethiopian dress is offered on Sundays." - Carolyn Desalu

This Ethiopian food blew my tastebud’s mind! I didn’t know such flavors existed! I ordered the “Chef’s Special” and was very satisfied. I had no idea what to get at first but this was the perfect combination of flavors. I was transported to a whole new country simply by eating this food. Next time I will bring the whole family! Thank you! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
Excellent service and food. The owner put his heart and soul into this place to make sure everyone is well taken care of. Highly recommended!

Google
If you're looking for authentic Ethiopian food then this is the spot. It helps to go with someone that knows how to order or is possibly Ethiopian but normal everyday people can figure the menu out for sure. Also they have helpful staff. The outside of the building is a little sketchy but sometimes those are some of the best places. The inside looks like a little village and had a cool vibe. The food was served in a unique way and the seating was nice and private. We would like to explore the menu more on a return visit. I would also mention that the pricing was very good for the amount of food that you get.

Google
Piassa is a hidden gem in Atlanta! The food is absolutely delicious — rich, flavorful, and 100% authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The injera and traditional dishes were incredible, and the atmosphere is full of history and culture. The staff is welcoming and happy to share the background of the dishes. If you're in Atlanta and want an unforgettable cultural food experience, Piassa is the place to go!

Google
The best Ethiopian restaurant in Atlanta I have ever had never disappointed in here the service, food overall is amazing the owner is so professional he make sure all the customers happy with it keep up 🙌

Google
Yesteday, me and my wife had a chance to visit Piassa restaurant. First off, we were very amused by its Ethiopian cultural decor and view. We escorted to our table by the owner - that was GREAT!! We order the KINTOT SPECIAL to give it a try, the meal that would be enough for five people but since we were out of state, we decided to take the leftover for 4 hours drive to go back home. The food gets A+ grade from my wife - that tells me everything. The service was super. I would like to thank our server Alazar, a humble Ethiopian, that adds our dining experince more spices. I proudly recommend this place !!! Thank you

Yelp
Great food, vibes and setting! Definitely recommend it for a nice size meal with others.

Yelp
I believe Piassa has a good Ethiopian food option for all people. They have a diverse amount of options for every kind of eater. My friends and I was amazing with how beautiful the place is, super traditionally decorated. It reminded me of restaurant back home. The food was really good. The veggie combo was amazing as well as the tibs. The service was really good. The servers understand both Amharic and English which was really nice. My friends who are not Ethiopian really loved the food and I also like the Tere Sega(Raw Meat) they had. The fact that it is an other to get that was super cool to me. Every person should go to this place. I loved it. Overall 8 out of 10

Yelp
Great! Great!! Great!!! There's a few Ethiopian places around this area but none of them are this caliber. None. This restaurant is perfect! It looks amazing with authentic atmosphere. The ultimate Ethiopian dining experience. Put this place at the top of your list for your next night out!!

Yelp
First time at piassa and the food was the worst ethiopian food ever, I got food Poison after eating there, i would have given then zero, they was not friendly, no wonder the restaurant was empty. Never again, they don't even give us enough injera. Dont go here

Kemberly E.

Yelp
The food was wonderful and the service was great! I would definitely recommend and am looking forward to going back!

Yelp
Food is not great, but not horrible. This is from my experiences of being world traveler and a connoisseur of Ethiopian Food. However, service is DEFINITELY SUBSTANDARD! And for that reason alone, I will Not be giving them a second try

Mimi T.

Yelp
It's the worst food I ever tasted in my life. I have no idea why they are still in business. It was really the most disgusting food ... after I tried a few bites I throw it. The beef tartare was nasty I believe I beg they used was some kinda ground beef that's not fresh. I would not recommend this place.

Biruk N.

Yelp
Their food was very very good especially "Gomen Besega". Their service is on average because the waitress who has been serving us is not good but the other staff are good and friendly.Their food was super fast , healthy and very tasty.

Yelp
Great Service. Delicious & tasty food. I love the flavors. I can't cook this type of deliciousness so thank you. I love the veggi combo, egg w/ chicken & red sauce

Eyu A.

Yelp
Horrible it was terrible experience!! The owner taught he was slick by giving us food that's been outside for a long time and it was cold

Aruna I.

Yelp
if i could leave no stars I would. i love Ethiopian food, however this food was disgusting. the rice was just okay, but the lamb i had was DRY almost burnt. No sauces were added for additional flavor. I don't usually leave reviews unless they are good review but I WOULD NOT recommend this place.

Yelp
This was my very first time eating Ethiopian food and I think it's now fair to say that I'm not a huge fan. Now if you LOVE Ethiopian food in general this review may not be as helpful. Summary = If I were to visit again, it would definitely be for the environmental experience and not so much the food. FOOD: To me (and my dad), everything was either spicy, sour or an "interesting" combination of them both. We ordered both the Veggie combo and a chicken dish. I enjoyed bits and pieces of the veggie combo but the chicken dish (whose name currently escapes me) was ENTIRELY too spicy to truly enjoy. The Ethiopian bread itself is another interesting texture that resembles a spongy pancake. I enjoyed the soft, spongy texture of it but found myself wishing it was sweet instead of having a flavor similar to sourdough bread. ATMOSPHERE: Wow such a beautiful restaurant! So much to catch the eye and at a certain time during the night (~10pm?) they turn down the lights and start some live entertainment which is just so enjoyable! I loved the music and the lights and just the overall culturally relevant atmosphere. There are booths, private couches, small tables near the floor (that I suspect is of Ethiopian culture) as well as regular table seating.

Yelp
Piassa is an Ethiopian restaurant located in Scottsdale. I originally went here for their Ethiopian New Years event and really enjoyed myself. However on this visit I didn't try their food. On my second visit i went because I was craving Goden Tibs (friend rib tips). The service was lacking, our waitress was barely around to be seen and we had to bother another server on multiple occasions. Our waitress also forgot our order so we only had one entree come out and we sat there waiting another 15-20 mins for our original order to come out. Once we got the food, it was extremely disappointing. The meat was really tough and hard to chew which made the experience that much worse. Apart from that I will give them points for the authentic decor, and Ethiopian history displayed all throughout the restaurant. I would go back again a third time just to give them a fair chance but based on my experience the second time, I would give them two and a half stars.

R H.

Yelp
Piassa staff are amazing. We have been eating there since 2018. I absolutely love the vegetarian and fish options. I will continue to trust them because of the tasty food and caring service.

Hammad A.

Yelp
Good food. Extremely bad customer service. Management lies. Take forever to prepare food. Both for dine in and take out.

Yelp
We were very excited to try this place that was highly recommended by our Ethiopian friend that we think the world of. I was VERY disappointed with the staff. They were very rude and took 50 minutes just to get the appetizer which was sambussa which was quickly tossed on the table without giving me the opportunity to ask for the green dipping sauce. I had to flag down a worker to ask for it and he rudely said it does not come with it. Say WHA? I clearly saw on Yelp pics that it does. And if it it traditionally does not come with it, provide it. I WILL PAY EXTRA for dipping sauce. By the time our mains came (Awaze Tibs and Kilkil) we were just ready to leave. The food was good, the decor cute, but the rudeness of the staff members killed it for us. I would hate to think it was because I am not Ethiopian. Also, during the 50 minute wait for the appetizer I decided to take some pics of the decor...NOT people. A lady that worked there said pictures are not allowed. WTH? I am not at the Clermont lounge. PS I see dozens of pics on yelp and on FB.

Yelp
Highlight: if you want to feel like you traveled to another country for a brief lunch, then this is the place to go! The decor inside this place was celestial and very ethnic. We ordered the chicken and the Piasso special beef. Every order came with lots and lots of injera (see explanation below). They love playing 90s and 80s romantic instrumentals and have a live band overnight. The stews are good and the meat must be eaten hot to preserve tenderness and juice. I give them a 3.5/5 for this matter bc the food did lose its taste if it got a little cold. Injera- a sourdough crepe served with EVERY dish in an Ethiopian restaurant. It starts out looking like a crepe but then develops a unique porous and slightly spongy texture. The thin batter is poured onto the cooking surface, traditionally a clay plate over a fire though now more commonly a specialized electric injera stove, and the bottom remains smooth while the top develops lots of pores which makes it ideal for scooping up stews and sauces. It is used for EVERYthing including plate, napkin, bread, etc. injera fills you up- so I recommend going slowly or you will feel very heavy later on in the meal despite its light sour taste The chicken we had was a thick heavily dark red spiced oily gravy with 1 chicken drum stick stewed and flavored for hours and a hard boiled egg. It looks like a heavily stewed spice and maybe vegetable base that tastes mildly like chili with a layer of oil on top. Your Injera will hold onto the stews well but the pores can only last so long, so this is a dipping dish. The Piassa Beef was almost like a grilled beef chunks. Must be eaten hot- when it is cold- it becomes mildly stringy and tough to chew and loses its juices and flavors. I recommend wrapping it inside the Injera. It is not too spicy or too salty. It is chargrilled with peppers. They like playing romantic 80s and 90s classical soft rock instrumental in the back, the interior is quite celestial- felt like I entered another world! If you're trying to do an anthro project on Ethiopian culture, this is the place to go for sure- very authentic and very fun for the eyes, palate, and for the company.

Yelp
Service is consistently slow. Food is ok, it is hit- or- miss. The last time, I got awaze tibs and it wasn't decadently flavorful. It's conveniently close to YDFM so I come here. It's in a small, shared parking lot but I've never had problems with finding parking. There's usually only 1-4 other tables here yet wait is still at least 30 minutes each time.

Eli A.

Yelp
Great spot in Scottdale a huge selection of Ethiopian beers, soda and Ethiopian food. The server was amazing the first time I went in early March 2020 and Goden Tibs beef prime rib was amazing and fresh. There was even live music The first experience of Piassa was a 5/5 Second time I went was in July of 2020 the Goden Tibs was not as good the meat was mostly fat, and very hard and chewy not soft and fresh. It was old meat that has been in the freezer for months. Since things are slower because of the pandemic I understand why there was a decline in quality. I was a little disappointed because the environment and decorations inside Piassa is amazing. My second experience the waitress took forever to see me and give me a menu around 25 minutes.

Yelp
Yes, this place is tucked into a ratchet strip mall that has had better days. You also have to walk through a market and hops you get pointed in the right direction towards the restaurant (walk through a needed curtain on right ). Don't let any of that disuade you, this place is as authentic as it gets. We got the Combo Tibs- these are meats (lamb, goat, steak) gthey were overlooked and tough as others stated. They weren't bad but they are better at other places. The veggie combo- it was pretty good. It had an assortment of salad, lentils, beats, & potatoes all cooked into stews. Everything comes with injiera which is a spongy/doughy wrap in which you put your food in like a taco. FYI- forks are optional , this food is meant to be eaten with your fingers. Overall the prices are cheap and the portions are HUGE . We got 2 plates for 3 people and still took 3 to-go boxes. I'll be back but I'll try the fish rather than the tibs and see how it goes. If it wasn't for the scoutmob I'd never know it was there.

Yelp
Food Too Gamey/Slow service. I normally don't like to give not so awesome reviews, BUT This food here was wayyy tooo authentic for my palette. The environment was cute as it had it Ethiopian charm! I've been to a couple of Ethiopian places before so I had pretty high expectations for this place and I brought a friend with me that never had Ethiopian before. We started out with honey wine. Which was awful BC it was sooo sweet where I couldn't even finish the entire shot glass as I just about gag as I felt like I was shooting up syrup. So I just got the opted for the cab. My friend order so phyllo beef wrapped but it was burnt and over-cooked in the dryer where we just about broke our teeth biting into it. I got the beef soup and it was a very thin broth and very little beef and it was very veiny. Entree: we got the big platter. And I was very disappointed BC I was expecting a veggie and meat combo...and it was about 75% raw. Now I am a fan of the KITFO, which is the typical steak tatare served rare. But it was really rare and it didn't taste fresh. Then...there chunks of raw meat on the dish and it wasn't the best quality of meat as it was very veiny. My friend freaked out and I kept apologizing that it's typically not like this. But we ate about 30% of it and took the rest of home. Oh, and thank goodness I got the Groupon for $28 for $69 worth of food.

Yelp
Okay, so this is my third time trying this place. Twice before Covid and tonight for delivery. Unfortunately I will NOT be going back! Yuck! A waste of space in your system. Reasons to skip this place: 1. Food is flavorless. I mean, do you guys not taste your food? Who's cooking this meal? It was so bland. I'm so disappointed. 2. They cannot get your order right. I ordered beef sambusa and received the lentil ones. They were burnt and dry. I threw those suckers away! I'm not going to waste my time putting flavorless calories into my body. 3 The packaging is horrible. Half my food was spilled out in the bag due to the packaging that they used. 4. They are so slow executing food. Be prepared to wait and wait and wait. I hope that they somehow take the time out to read customer reviews and understand this is how customers feel about their food at the moment. There's other Ethiopian places to try, so I advise you guys out there to try out the other places. This place is not it if you're looking for flavorful food!

Yelp
I ordered beef awaze tibs and lentil samosas to go. Hardly any meat with a ton of injera! Was excited to try a new place and was very disappointed especially for almost $19 for carry out.

Redu I.

Yelp
Back in the days it was one of the best Ethiopian Resturant in Atlanta, now a days not so much! Went there with a group of 15 people last night for dinner, there was no server checking on us (although it wasn't busy) to even order we had to go all the way to the kitchen or bar worse service everrrr plus we found a piece of injera that was bad. I felt ashamed because I suggested the place for the whole group. so unfortunately I will no longer be going there wouldn't suggest it!!!

Yelp
On a cross country road trip, I found this thrift store on Highway 85 that boasts every American paraphernalia known to man. Entering Piassa was a similar experience: it's a shrine for Ethiopia (hoarding all manner of artifacts and galleries) under the guise of a restaurant. I had to start with this prelude as many reviewers mentioned that this was "authentic Ethiopian decor" it is not. It's a closterphobic mess. The only thing true to the restaurants in Ethiopia is the adjacent butcher shop & the speakeasy setup. The menu is not American friendly, like the decor, outdated and confusing. I hate seeing my ppl ruin their business endeavors like this. I'd recommend if you're an Ethiopian novice to ask your server for guidance - well actually demand assistance since they move at a glacial pace. I have ordered their veggie platter and meat dishes incl tibs, kitfo. The meat is very good! Clearly it's fresh as the butcher shop is in the same vicinity. I'm no fan of their veggie platter, it's too mushy. Kik, misir and dinich all baby food soft. Overall, the pack rat atmosphere is grounds for no return. As an Ethiopian, I'm embarrassed. If u like meats and don't mind using your iPhone light to read through an overwhelming menu - then Piassa is your place. :)

Robert H.

Yelp
I recently got a combo tibs platter of lamb and beef for takeout thought I was very tempted to enjoy their lush dining interior. The tibs were a generous portion, wonderfully moist and tender with a touch of spice. I usually take leftovers the next day and fry everything up with some eggs. They always have a good supply of home-crafted Tej to wash it all down. Two secret dishes to try is the Awaze Dip (spiced butter) and their breakfast soft-cooked eggs Also, when things get back to normal, check out one of the weekend nights they have live Ethiopian entertainment!

Yelp
Had dinner here yesterday. When you first enter it seems to be a food and meat mart go through the curtain on the right and you walk right into an eclecticly decorated dining room with many Ethiopian pieces of art and an overall mixed yet quirky decor. My friends and I ordered a variety of dishes the first being fish gulash, the veggie combo and lastly Derek tibs. The fish gulash is made up of tilapia fish cubes sauteed with onions and tomatoes and cooked in a mild chili and spice blend called berbere and finally topped with some jalapeño peppers. The gulash was good it had a burnt taste at times and some what of a fishy taste. But an OK dish nonetheless. The veggie combo was comprised of a variety of vegetarian Ethiopian dishes like shiro (chick pea sauce ), dinich wot (potato stew), gomen (collard greens), key sir (beets), misir (lentils) and a salad. Warning it is a huge platter and can be shared with 2 if not 3 people. It was just average in comparison to home made Ethiopian food or other restaurants versions like Desta. The last dish was Derek tibs which is cyber beef cooked with onions and spices served on a sizzling small platter. The presentation was great but I wish they had taken it away after serving cause the meat continued to cook and the smell just permeated through everything. My friends enjoyed it though and doubled up on hot spice mitmita which made it taste even better. Overall a good experience.

Yelp
Great Ethiopian food. Authentic and super yummy. Spiced just right. The Shiro Wot was some of the best I've ever had. Great portions, too!!!

Yelp
This place deserves to be the #1 Ethiopian Restaurant in Atlanta by far! I'll Yelp it for all! I've tried Desta kitchen, like there fusion but the taste not there at all!

Yelp
I went there here with my girlfriend for the first time. We only went because it had a Scoutmob. We figured that if the food wasn't that good at least we were getting it discounted. We ordered two veggie platters. Well...the food was extremely mediocre. Not terrible, but certainly not great. Just meh. Definitely on the bottom of my list of Ethiopian places to go to in Atlanta. Like others have said here, the service was also terrible. After we were done with our meal we sat for a good 15 minutes waiting for someone to come by to give us our check. Then I had to ask our waitress twice for a box. (And, no, they were certainly NOT busy.) But my biggest issue came when they pulled this bs about how they couldn't accept our Scoutmob. The waitress claimed their computer was down so they couldn't process it. I told her that made no sense and that all she had to do was take $10 off the bill. It's easy. Everyone's phone has a calculator these days. She said she had to run it through the computer. I have never been to a place that has told me this so it sounded like a total scam. Put up a Scoutmob to get you into the place then claim you can't take it so the patron has to pay full price for your mediocre bland ass food. I will certainly NEVER go back there. The boring ass food was not worth dealing with the crap service. So if you're thinking about going, you've been warned. And especially if you're only going because you're expecting a cheap meal...don't do it.

Yelp
If you are looking for an American style dining experience, you will be disappointed. The pace is slow, the atmosphere foreign, and the food is excellent. But don't bring your fussy mother-in-law here unless she is Ethiopian. Try the Tej wine. Brace yourself for a very friendly language barrier. Enjoy the good flavors and roll with it. Groupon was available when we went, but this is a good value without a promotion.

Yelp
This was my first time going to an Ethiopian restaurant. It was a good experience. The waitress was very helpful in walking me through the menu options. The ambiance is very nice. It felt as if I actual went somewhere out of the country. I tried the lamb and rice. It was tasty....I will most definitely return and try some of the other dishes...

Yelp
I just stopped by today for the first time and picked up the Veggie Combo to go. I have had quite a bit of Ethiopian food but I'm no expert. Everything was truly delicious and the portion was enough for me and my adult son to have a good meal. The arrangement of the store and restaurant is unfamiliar to most people here and it took me a minute and some friendly guidance to understand where I should place my order. The people were very friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant was comfortable and inviting in a loungy kind of way. Ethiopian dining is clearly about relaxing with friends and family and enjoying your time. Piassa seems like a great place to spend an evening listening to music and dining with friends so I'll look forward to coming back for the full experience. As for some of the reviews: I don't understand why a person who does not like injera bread would write a review of an Ethiopian restaurant. I find it extremely aggravating that some reviewers have difficulty understanding that different cultures relate to time in different ways and have varying traditions of hospitality. People's livelihoods are affected by these reviews so I wish that everyone would take the time to consider how their biases may influence the opinions that they post.

Yelp
Great atmosphere , more than enough food that was so tasteful. Be sure to have some Ethiopian Tea after your meal

Yelp
A hidden treat unearthed thanks to Scoutmob and Yelp...I'd probably never find this place otherwise as it's tucked into an unassuming strip mall. When we first walked into Piassa (you have to enter through the mart), I was a touch skeptical since a heavy cloud of incense permeated the place, and strong smells aren't okay in my book. However, I decided to give Piassa a chance, and luckily for me, the intense incense subsided. The waitresses were just so warm and friendly. From my seat in our booth, I could read the words "Feel Like Home" above the private table. Very homey indeed. Like it's been mentioned, the menu doesn't have any appetizers listed and basically is just mains and drinks. We ended up ordering three entrees which was too much for two people, but or does it mean that the portions are just that big? Hmm, something to ponder. We ended up sharing the veggie combo, yebeg tibs (lamb), and kitfo normal which they kindly cooked completely for us. The veggies reminded me of a clock, as there were practically twelve treats to try, laid out on a huge circle of injera. Everything was delicious. Lamb was a tad dry but the taste made up for that. And they kept the injera coming as needed. You can tell that the restaurant and adjoining mart cater to an Ethiopian clientele. In the mart, the spices and lentils were not labeled, and the butcher sign had nary a word of English. It's not too far from the Dekalb Farmers Market, so you could swing by Piassa either before of after your food shopping needs.

Yelp
Very good food! The interior was colorful and full of cultural decor, separated from the grocery mart by a beaded curtain. There were several TVs and a projector showing the Falcons game and a small stage with benches and a keyboard. The traditionally-garbed waitress spoke broken English but was able to help us order just what what we were looking for - a huge platter of beef tibs (ground and cubed), cabbage and carrots, lentils, greens, and salad with onions and tomatoes. All the items are served on top of the spread out injera so the juices soak through. The waitress brought out another basket of injera without us asking so we never ran out. The ground beef was spiced well and the cubed beef was charred, fatty, and tasty. With the Scoutmob deal, it was a steal for 4 people. My only complaint is that service was slow for the second half of our visit. This is not a place for someone who wants to try "toned down" Ethiopian food. Instead, I would highly recommend Piassa for a group of friends who are willing to share a platter and don't mind the strong scent of incense, bamboo walls, and chatter of locals. I would love to come back especially when there is live music.

Yelp
The reviews of this place are beyond ridiculous. I rarely review places but this place deserves redemption. This is sincerely one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the Atlanta! I'm vegetarian and my boyfriend is a meat lover and we were both 110% pleased with our meals. He got the combo (beef, lamb, & goat) & I got the veggie combo. They were both incredibly flavorable and the portions are gigantic for a fantastic price. We will definitely be back soon.

Yelp
Once you get past the somewhat cryptic menu the food is great. Don't expect a simple division of appetizers, soups, etc. The menu does not seem to follow any sort of organization at all... maybe by sauce, but even then, not quite. They don't have some of the specialties we have come to expect at some other area Ethiopian eateries - Sambusas and Lentil soup, for example. We forged forward and ordered the "Biret Metad Tibs" and the Veggie Combo." The Tibs were mildly spiced and very nicely presented with a side salad. The Veggies were a real surprise though with a sampling of about 8 or 10 different veggies encircling a salad on a big piece of njira (that's the Ethiopian bread everything is eaten with). Since the menu described the Veggie Combo as containing just 3 veggies, we were very happily surprised to see such a wide assortment. Most were excellent, all were good, none were very spicy, which I missed. But, they did provide a little dish of hot sauce on the side which was wonderfully flavorful and allowed us to spice up the food to our taste. Overall we enjoyed eating here and I think we would come again. With the addition of some appetizers and a more user friendly menu, they could earn 5 stars.

Yelp
Best Ethiopian restaurant in Atlanta hands down. Come meet famous Ethiopians from the natinal soccer team. The owner was the goalie. Food is amazing.

Yelp
Order from this restaurant on UberEats. The order can very sloppy with no enjera as well as leaving out a whole item. I have reported it to Uber Eats and am waiting for the delivery of the missing items. I called the restaurant and reported the missing item that had been paid for. The man on the phone was very rude and made me repeat my request three times. He concluded by saying that he was going to check on it and get back to me. He basically just hung up the phone. He never asked my name or the order number. I will update this review if I hear back from them but at this point, the customer service is horrible as well as the overall dining experience. Seems as if they are not a restaurant at all, they might be more concerned with other business.

Yelp
This is hands down the best Ethiopian food in Georgia. I have had Ethiopian food in several states and this is definitely one of the best. On top of that the restuarant is beautiful. I will be back!

Yelp
I haven't had Ethiopian fare in a while and was introducing bae. We got the "for 2" and a woman with a basket and a huge tray with injera came to our table. She opened the basket, flipped it over and out came a mess of injera, goat, beef, and chicken. She mixed it all together and BAM, our meal. I thought the red spice was beautiful and the chicken and beef were wonderful. The goat was so-so. Bae was a bit sad we didn't get all the veggies to dip our injera in and didn't eat much of our food. I took it home, ate it again and again for many meals and still have a ton of injera left. Not bad, I'd come back and next time I'd get a bigger array of additions to our pile of basket fired goodies.

Yelp
Amazing authentic Ethiopian food. Went with a couple friends and we are planning on going back at least once a month. Although the service is a little slower than I'm used to, the wait staff was very friendly and helpful and had great suggestion for my friend who is new to Ethiopian food. Very fair prices and you get a lot of bang for your buck, the drink menu I also more than reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

Yelp
It's kind of a 3.5 star place, which is what the rating sits at now. We appreciated the environment, the fact that they served alcohol, (many Ethiopian restaurants in our state don't) and the extensive menu. The quality of the food was pretty good. We had the veggie combo as well as a meat combo. The service left a lot to be desired. Yes I try to be very generous when it comes to cross cultural concepts of service, but our waitress was rude. She seemed annoyed we weren't ordering more (Four of us, we ordered for "3" and had tons of leftovers). Never checked on us or offered refills. We waved at her a few times and were obviously ignored. We asked about the coffee ceremony on the menu and she told us it was only available on Thursdays, (doesn't say that on the menu) and then just walked off before we could order something in its place. When my friend motioned for the check, she visibly rolled her eyes and sighed. Towards the end, another waitress started helping us while ours continued to just sit down behind the bar as she had done most of the night. The other waitress was much nicer, and brought us coffee and tea, but we were disappointed that the tea was just a bag of Lipton and the coffee wasn't the best. Overall, the place was a great value, and if I lived in the area I might stop by and get something to go, but I'd prefer to visit other Ethiopian places in hopes of finding a warmer welcome.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite Ethiopian place in Atlanta when it comes to vegetarian options. The veggie combo platter is to die for. I am not nearly as fond of the beef dishes as I find the meat too stringy. When I step in here I feel like I am on another continent. The pace of life immediately slows down. Soccer is always playing. The waitresses never rush you. It definitely has a family feel. Happy times at Piassa!

Yelp
This place was so horrific that I had to write my first Yelp review. We only came here because we had a voucher. My SO and I ordered the tibs combination and the "Dulet." The tibs was inedible. It was 65% tendon and other connective tissue, 20% meat/ tough muscle and 15% fat. The tibs appeared to be deep fried making it extra dry which adds insult to injury. The one star is for the restaurant having an above par atmosphere. We spat out most of what we chewed, paid the bill and left for another restaurant. I hope we just ordered the wrong items. Maybe others will have better luck.

Yelp
First time there ; The food does not taste that good; very rude manager ; unfriendly towards children; It is more of a bar than a restaurant where drunken folks swing arms ; We felt disrespected ;we felt threatened for asking why we should give up the seat that we were assigned to; Very pricy ; Hostesses are more of like security guards ; The manager asks customers to give up their seats to his own gangs or clicks or whoever they could be very very rude. Meat was poor quality all poorly cooked and all most of white meat ; The venue : it has some reminder posters and pictures of a neighborhood in Addis ( by the way the don't allow you to take pictures for some crooked reason ). I will never go back there . I had to add : stingy bathroom ; very tardy service ; mandatory gratitude counting toddlers as party members ; You have to beg for everything including napkin ; I felt I was by a train station or public mass catering not a formal restaurant .

Yelp
We came here with a large group, and were seated kind of bench-style around 2 small tables. The combo plate (don't remember what it was called) was served in generous portions, with a great variety- lamb, beef, goat, along with veggies and unending servings of injera. Enough for 5 people. Btw, don't get the beef short rib, unless you like it super crisp and overcooked. That's just how they do it here. The atmosphere may leave much to be desired, but you don't expect ethnic places to be like some Buckhead joint, do you? I mean, really? If you don't like live music....then come here earlier in the evening- I think the live singing starts at around 9PM, at least on Sunday nights.

Yelp
I went with friends Saturday night. We enjoyed the atmosphere and service and the food tasted decent. However upon leaving we observed them receiving a meat delivery in a very unsanitary way. Goat carcasses bumping up against the door frame and from an unrefrigerated truck. I also had major stomach distress when I got home. I won't return and have seriously considered contacting the health department.
