Waffle House, the Silver Skillet, Java Jive, and Meat and Threes Are Southern-Style Diners - Eater Atlanta

"What if I told you the South does have diners — you just know these establishments as Waffle Houses, meat and threes, Southern cafeterias like Piccadilly and the Magnolia Room, and Atlanta institutions like the Silver Skillet?" - Beth McKibben

I've been coming to this Piccadilly spot in greenbriar mall since I was about 5 years old. They've always had the best soul food and Buffet styled meals that I've always enjoyed. My favorites to order when Id go here are the mac and cheese, the cheese rice, some jalapeno cornbread, and a dessert of some sort which was usually a slice of strawberry cheesecake. It always made the perfect dinner for me. And their big dining area is very cleanly and beautifully put together too. No complaints, great platters, great service, great restaurant.

One girl had a horrible attitude and she needs to find another job, being very rude and ignorant to other customers and she can’t treat others like that if she wants to keep her job. The food was good, I had a watered down Sprite but a very helpful waitress helped out our table and was very polite and besides the food, was the only bright spot from the experience. 4/11/25

My food was sabotaged. After requesting to check for missing items I received an intentionally cut cup of corn that spilled in the bag, a bite out of my piece of pie, and the bread was squeezed. The carrot soufflé is burnt. I am missing a biscuit and a piece of chicken. I cannot eat this as it has been sabotaged intentionally. Update: This establishment has officially been reported to the Department of Health. Good luck preparing for your pop-in health inspection.

There were no onions for the liver. I was told that it would be 30 -40 min for onions to cook. The food was not hot, when I asked could it be warmed, it was returned to me the same. Me and my sister are senior and we look like seniors but we were not offered the senior discount, when we saw so many senior after we sat down, then we were told we had to ask for the discount before we paid. I think I will cook at home next time.

There’s nothing quite like coming here some Sundays after church! We love the spirited atmosphere, especially around the kitchen, where the staff engages in lively debates (not arguments, of course, ha ha) with the servers on the line. Today, we were thrilled by the delicious smothered pork chops and the savory chopped steak with onions and what a delightful surprise the fluffy, tasty rolls were! Rolls are usually hit or miss. The real cherry on top of our dining experience is always Terri in the dining room! Her warm, friendly demeanor lights up the place. Every time we leave, she makes it a point to remind us to come back soon. That personal touch is just one of the many reasons we keep returning.

The swap was overcooked. Fried chicken undercooked and bloody. Vegetable well cooked but food is lukewarm. Lemonade and tea well made. Desserts are moist. Good cake and pecan pie. Room attendant Felicia is AWESOME

They have the best most attentive servers one can find. Quiet enough atmosphere where you can talk to your guests.

Yelp
It been decades since I have ate a Piccadilly's at my brother suggestion. The food was ok but the service was great. I got two pieces of fried fish with two sides, cornbread and orange Fanta soda. The good - fish and corn. The collard greens were too salty and cornbread stall and dry. The service was excellent from the people who put food on your plate to the waitress. Everyone was friendly, and professional. The inside clean, neat, and spacious. It is a big restaurant.

Yelp
You can never go wrong eating here. I had baked fish , carrot souffle, and mixed veggies. I wanted liver and onions (no im not old, just country lol) but they were out. Love it here!

Yelp
Old school experience. Food has maintained its quality over the years. It doesn't pretend to be up to date, That is why I go. The service is excellent. Those people care and work really hard. The infrastructure needs investment. I feel some financial #%## is making money on the backs of the long time and faithful staff. That gives me an ambiguous feeling.

Yelp
Ask anybody and they will tell you that the GreenBriar Piccadilly is the best one in Atlanta. This particular location used to cater at my job for lunch and believe me everybody would get excited about it. On this day I was craving Fried Chicken and the Carrot Soufle. If you aren't careful you will think it's really sweet potatoes and not carrots. It's just that good. The chicken is good as well as the turnip Greens. The Turnips was a nice change of pace because everybody usually sell Collard Greens. They had a good seasoned taste and were not salty. Do yourself a favor and go scoop up a platter soon.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants ever since I was young. It is a cafeteria southern style restaurant, where you place almost whatever you want on your tray for a low price and a lot of food. They do offer a veggie plate, all sides. This is not for anyone who is all healthy but on a cheat day, this is definitely the place to come! They have dine in service and take out, the staff is always friendly.

Yelp
I gotta give this a 5 star. On Sunday Hubby wanted Piccadilly for dinner. If you know this location you know it's busy like crazy on Sundays. I ordered online, set a time to pick up and paid. He wanted fried chicken and I wanted liver and onions. I get to the restaurant at the right time. Go up to the register to get my order. No order. Not only that they don't make liver and onions on Sunday. What? I was a little upset. I like liver. But not often. Tremaine the guy at the register and a white chick (never got her name) told me to just wait a few minutes. She went to the kitchen and they made me liver and onions right there. They were both awesome. I got 3 pieces of delicious liver and lots of onions. Hubby wanted an extra piece of chicken. He didn't charge me because of the mix-up. This Piccadilly is always on point with us. Thanks guys. Update: The lady's name is Jessica. I just was there for the chicken dinner for Hubby and she was working. She was even nicer, if that's possible.

Yelp
I visited before I took my flight and I will say that the food wasn't all that great ... but the customer service was amazing. They were helpful and didn't mind going the extra mile for you.

Yelp
I recently cut meat out of my diet for a period of time, just to see how it would effect my over all well being.. I can honestly say that I am not a great cook, not even good, so I eat out a lot, which as you can imagine, gets expensive depending on your preferred cuisine. Well, one day when I was trying to find somewhere to eat lunch that didnt consist of chicken wings and fries, I thought about Piccadilly. This restaurant has been where it is since I was a young boy, and that was a long time ago...a long time ago..lol..anyway, I got excited because I knew I could get veggies for a low cost. Now I know that most of the veggies come right out of the cans..so if freshness is your thing, I mean farm freshness, then this isn't going to be to your liking. The service is cafeteria style with servers who prepare your plate. The food is seasoned well to my liking.. and the price is right. Check out my pictures and decide for yourself..

Yelp
Every time I come here I am never disappointed ...The food is always hot, fresh and extremely good... Where else in Atlanta can you go and get a home cooked meal at such a reasonable price...I had the pot roast with vegetables, candy yams and green beans with a corn bread muffin. I was totally pleased with everything and the ladies who serve the food have excellent personalities... It is extremely difficult to find excellent customer service in reasonable price restaurants in Atlanta...I should know because I have dealt with some of the rudest and unprofessional customer service personnel you could ever meet so sad but true... If the manager or owner read this review then please compliment your entire staff because they are truly exceptional... I am a single male and I visit your restaurant often and I must say I am never disappointed...

Yelp
Sign says open site says open till seven I placed my order online at 5:40 when I got there the staff behind the gate ignored me and the manager loudly got onto his cell phone talking to a friend. I spent $40 on a meal I never received my friend spent 35 no refund no phone answered at any point this is by far the worst place to order from. If you don't want to work somewhere quit get another job don't just shut down your business early without shutting down online ordering like the other locations did. Open till 7 on a holiday means open till 7

Yelp
I wish California had cafeteria style restaurants! We met swim friends of ours who were from the area and recommended Piccadilly. I'd never dined cafeteria style so I wasn't sure what to expect. Similar to the Healthy Choice salad franchise, customers grab a tray, load up their plates to hearts desire, then head to the cashier. The only difference is the staff plates the food which was nice. There were so many scrumptious looking choices, that I settled on asking the staff what the local favorites were and ordered accordingly. Our friends are regulars at Piccadilly, which quickly became obvious as we observed the common conversation and laughs with our amazing waitress. Our waitress checked on us frequently, one of our friends ordered two extra items and the waitress swiftly delivered the food to the table, he didn't have to get in line and could continue enjoying his lunch which was nice. I would definitely return when back in ATL.

Yelp
ATTENTION: THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE LOCATION OFF HOWELL MILL (YELP DIDN'T HAVE THAT LOCATION LISTED) It was a quick fix kinda situation. You know how it is Yelp. Every morning you forget to pack your lunch because Friday you were too lazy to do it the night before. You have ate at every affordable place around your job. FINE!, browse yelp, skim through some reviews, make a decision. This review was suppose to be for the American Deli. I was 3 people from ordering (although the menu seemed good), it was my lunch break: a) didn't feel like going to sleep once i got back to work and b) didn't feel like spending half my afternoon on the toilet: American Deli = Wings, philly cheeseteaks, fries, etc... Looked outside and across the parking lot was Piccadilly. There were signs that caught my eyes!!!! Glowing $4.99 lunches with 2 sides. DEAL! This place is set up cafeteria style (just like the name of the place is. If you are hungry 99.3%, as long as it is edible, you will destroy it and that's that. I ended up devourring their baked tilapia. Mac & cheese was ok and some rice, broccoli, cheese caserole was not too shabby. Ended up coughing up $9.17 with no drink. Kinda pricey for what I had and no drink so they lose 0.5 stars from 3.5 to 3. However, the downfall with cafeteria places, people can't make a damn decision on what they want. So f'n slow, grab something and keep it moving. Love the places to leave the tray and don't have to tip - Scrooge Status, bah humbug! Overall Grade: B+

Yelp
First day at Atlanta... my friend volunteer in Greenbrier mall and I was super hungry.. I saw this restaurant and decided to go in! Southern food... humm Nothing much to say about the food and the place.. the food it was ok and the place was ok to.. like a nice cafeteria the price was ok to... so this place is A-OK! I will no go back though! unless I'm hungry and no where else to go...

Yelp
I can see why most of the Piccadilly cafeteria have closed. The veggies are over cooked and have zero flavor. The turkey and dressing is very fatty. I used to like their fried chicken but that is not very good. The chocolate cream pie here and pumpkin pie here is good (that is the only thing good here). The cornbread is very dry and hard to swallow. BTW, unless you get the dilly plate you are going to spend a lot of money.

Yelp
Food was GREAT! So flavorful, fresh & tasty! Dining room attendants were casual & always within earshot if needed. I only needed a refill on my drink but they were steady in their area maintenance and attending to other tables needs as this was a Sunday afternoon church crowd. Great weather outside today & very comfortable inside. Music was cheery and not too loud, the overall vibe was awesome. I was a bit nervous to come after seeing prior reviews but was totally blown away by the customer service, food and cleanliness. Thanks Picadilly team! Keep it up.
