Where To Eat & Drink In Fredericksburg - Austin - The Infatuation

"Piccolina should be your go-to spot for something sweet with a touch of sophistication. The Italian ice shop, which first opened as a food truck, has eight rotating flavors, like pineapple coconut and blackberry lemon, plus lemonade and mimosa offerings. For $15, you can (and should) get extra fancy with the “Proseccolina,” a scoop of Italian ice of your choice topped with a pour of prosecco, all in a coupe glass. Like many eateries in Fredericksburg, Piccolina closes earlier in the evening, so stop in early for your icy apéritif." - samantha grasso

Small-batch Italian Ice. Hill Country ingredients. 🍨 New experience and an acquired taste…Wasn’t for me. It’s great to try new things! 🆕 Picturesque establishment. 📸 Piccolina is an Italian word that translates to little or small in English. It is often used as an affectionate term, similar to calling someone little one or sweetheart. Piccolina began with a simple yet whimsical idea ironically born in the drive-thru of a local Whataburger. While looking at an abandoned small building across the street, a dream was sparked of offering a frozen dessert haven free from artificial flavors and syrups – an elevated snow-cone stand that champions health-conscious choices and celebrates community spirit, all while showcasing the offerings of the Hill Country region. Surrounded by local orchards, growers, and a buzzing wine industry, Christina Harman, founder, seized the opportunity to transform her vision into reality in 2021, by purchasing an obscure vehicle sight-unseen on Instagram. With sheer determination and an ethos of embracing opportunities first, she learned how to make Italian Ice, similar to granita served in Italy, and served all over the Hill Country for two years. In 2023, with the help of many, she opened the doors to Piccolina on one of the busiest corners of Main Street, housed in a retrofitted 1950’s gas station that perfectly complements the charm of the original truck. Piccolina is more than a just business; it's a joyous space where Christina and her dedicated team get to serve up little scoops of happiness to everyone who walks through the door.

Such a cute place and super yummy! If you like tart & sweet lemonade like me, you will love it. I tried the blueberry lavender lemonade, the strawberry lemonade, and the Italian ice cream + prosecco combo. The watermelon lime is a must try! They will give you samples. After a day of walking Main Street in June, this was definitely a treat.

Google
In the center of the city, you can find this place with delicious Italian ice cream, with a small variety, delicious combinations and cocktail mixes. You can find them on the corner of E Main and Lincoln. On your visit to Fredericksburg take your time and visit the place, enjoy the view at the tables outside. I highly recommend it!

Yummy!! I really enjoyed the flavors that had something a little more sour to cut the sweetness. Any of the Italian ice with lemon were my favorites! If you just like sweetness I would definitely recommend the peach! These were so refreshing on a hot summer day!

Google
I have never tried Italian ice but I wish I had sooner! This is the perfect way to cool down after walking up and down Main St. will be coming back for a second serving soon.

Google
Suuuper cute sorbet shop in the center of town but was really disappointed by the product. We went in knowing that this was a dairy free situation and both my husband and I enjoy a sorbet so we were not concerned about that aspect. However, all of the flavors we tried were very one note and sweet. We tried the raspberry lemon, peach and kiwi and none of them had any tartness at all including the raspberry lemon. Ended up having a few bites and tossing the rest. Had only heard great reviews about this shop both online and from friends so I was surprised to not enjoy it.

Google
Great ice cream shop with eclectic flavors. We had the peach ice cream with prosecco pour and it was delicious! Must try for something new and refreshing.

Google
All the flavors we sampled were awesome and the Italian ice was a very refreshing treat while walking around. Topping the peach flavor with champagne was also a really good combo.

Yelp
Unique sweet treat in the heart of Fredericksburg's Main Street! I stopped by Piccolina to try their famous "Proseccolina." Your choice of Italian ice topped off with some Prosecco -- sounds perfect! After trying all of their flavors, I selected the strawberry Italian ice! It was perfect sweet, fresh, and tart. It paired perfectly with the acidity of the Prosecco. Can't wait to come back and try more flavor combos!

Yelp
Great alternative to ice cream! Short but healthy ice cream menu! Server was friendly and allowed us to sample all the available flavors, which was fantastic and satisfying! I ended up picking Fredericksburg beach! Plenty of space for people to seat inside and out side (see photos).

Yelp
Really cool Italian ice shop located in the heart of Main Street. The staff if very friendly and helpful. As you would expect at any "ice cream" shop they let you try any flavor you'd like prior to committing to a full scoop which is super helpful. My only complaint about my experience is that I choose the prosecco + 1 scoop, so I was under the impression I would receive a glass of prosecco AND a scoop of Italian ice, but what I received was more of a prosecco float. Which was delicious, but I would likely have gone in a different direction if I was more informed.

Yelp
Absolutely fun place to visit. They specialize in Italian ice, but it's limited flavors (about 12). That said, all the ices are delicious! And, the fun part is the you can get a scoop of the ice with prosecco! We tried many of the ices, the raspberry and mango topped the charts! The mango with bubbles was da' bomb! Highly recommend you stop by and have some fun!

Yelp
Husband and I stopped here for a refresher, and we were not disappointed! The lemonade is freshly squeezed we weren't expecting anything like it! I had the strawberry lemonade and my husband has the lavender lemonade and it was also yummy! My favorite was my choice with the strawberry lemonade it was so yummy and refreshing! The staff was friendly and the shop had some nice shirts that I want to get next time I come to visit the town.

Yelp
This place was a must stop during our trip to Fredericksburg. We got the prosecco and Italian ice and it was really good. I got the peach flavored Italian ice and it did not disappoint. The peach flavor was amazing and I asked if they sold the Italian ice by the pint as I wanted to take some home. Sadly, they did not :( I can't wait to return whenever I am back in this area. The service was great and the shop is small but accommodating.

Yelp
Love this little local Italian ice spot on Main Street. You can get a scoop of Italian ice, or do the piccolina that comes with Prosecco. It's a good, sweet little treat and brings a different experience to Main Street FBG. They allow you to try samples before choosing your flavor. I settled on the raspberry lemon for the piccolina and it was perfect with the prosecco. This place would be easily 5 stars if there was more seating inside. But the vibes and flavors are on point and we will definitely be back.

Yelp

Yelp
10/10 We went 3 times throughout our trip!! It was sooooo good and pretty inexpensive for the amount of ice cream they give you. My husband sampled lots of flavors and the raspberry lemon seemed to be the best one! Would go back again and again

Yelp
This is the perfect treat for a hot summer day out on Main St when you don't want ice cream to weigh you down or if you're not into wine! It's still that sweet fruity treat but refreshing and definitely unique. The blood orange hibiscus was the best orange flavor of any frozen treat I've ever tried.... And I've been dreaming of it mixed with the basil lime oh my goodness if you like basil you will absolutely love that flavor. Unfortunately the basil lime might be seasonal but the blood orange one is a regular flavor so definitely try that one! I also tried the pineapple coconut which was so so good as well! It's a nice cool place to rest your feet and enjoy some homemade small batch Italian ice!

Yelp
A great concept for Fredericksburg, and Wine Country in general. Great patio space, and super cute to allow for "Instagramable" photos. In fact, our group wasn't necessarily craving or in need of a sweet treat, but this cute spot drew us in. You have your choice of scooped Italian ice, or boozing it up with some champagne. Staff is incredibly welcoming and offers samples before you make your choice. $6 for a 1 scoop (a full scoop as you can see). I will admit, presentation is certainly more appealing than the actual treat. Disclaimer: I don't have the sweetest tooth. Would recommend for a quick refresher with the girls as a break in between shopping.

Yelp
Popped in here to get a sweet treat. Happy to hear that it's gluten free and dairy free. I tried three flavors and they were all great! Some counter seating inside and lots of patio seating outdoors.

Yelp
Great flavors and they're not over powering. It's fluffy and tasty. The restroom is also super clean and has a cute aesthetic! Overall recommend and return.

Yelp
This place is a must stop when you get to Fredericksburg. The service and atmosphere is unmatched. The gelato is top three of any that I've ever tried - and this place isn't three. There's even a champagne twist for those that prefer a splash with bubbles.

Yelp
Cute shop with Italian ices, non-dairy, light, easy to eat & refreshing. Fruity flavors & known for their Prosecco with flavored ices, similar to gelato but non-dairy. The clerk said the shop just opened this past summer and the owner used to have a retro jeep that she used to serve ices out of during different events and pop-ups. It got so popular that she opened this brick and mortar. I like how they designed the shop with a modern interior style and how they offer Proseccolinas! Very clever!

Yelp
This is the best dessert place in town. Sooo refreshing and tastes really good. Italian ice for the win.

Yelp
Have gone to this place several times during my visits to Fredricksberg. As for Italian Gelato it is a close reprentation of the original, but not like that in Italy. The gelato is rich and smooth, and the staff are friendly and fun to talk to. I gave them 4 stars because for a small town this is a wonderful treat if you want a refreshing dessert.

Elise J.

Yelp
Loved that I could enjoy a dessert that is gluten free and dairy free! Would love to come back!

Yelp
Cute location with fresh Italian ice. I really like the blackberry lemon flavor. Less heavier than a cream based ice cream.
google avatar

Yelp
What a fun concept: house made small batch sorbetto in flavors like basil lime and spiced pear. For the adults Piccolina offers a scoop of choice in a coupe glass where they then pour over your choice of bubbles. Plenty of bar top seating inside and a nice patio on the outside. If walking up and down main street definitely pop in for a break.

Yelp
Meh. Very small scoop for over five bucks. I got lemon blackberry. No lemon taste. Blackberry taste slight. Nice shop with nice seating for people watching. I guess the Italian ice is made to go into Prosecco? I would skip it and get ice cream.

Pimlada W.

Yelp
Italian ice was delicious!! However the costumer service was not. The lady serving the gelato to us was very rude to our family. As a minority visiting for the holidays I was deeply offended with how we were treated. The lady who was supposed to help us was blunt and would glare at our family. But when talking to the other people who were not of our race she was happy and cheerful. It was not a good experience for our family...

Yelp
Fast service and the Italian Ice was so refreshing on a hot day. My favorite was the pineapple coconut, my husband enjoyed a scoop of peach and a second scoop of blackberry lemon. There is indoor and outdoor seating and a bathroom available for customers.
