NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"On Staten Island, there’s a new Polish restaurant where the pierogi are only boiled, and never fried. Pierogi Island offers traditional fillings like spinach and cheese, and sauerkraut and mushroom, but also BBQ chicken and mac and cheese. If you’re extra hungry, you can get a Polish platter, with three pierogi, a kielbasa, hunter stew, and stuffed cabbage for $18.95." - will hartman

Been here a few times now, always a great experience. The food is absolutely delicious. They have great lunch specials as well. I highly recommend the Ukrainian borscht. It was addicting and I cleaned my bowl.

Da Damaso is a hidden gem in Staten Island that brings the heart of Salerno, Italy to every dish. The pasta is rich and fresh, the buffalo mozzarella melts in your mouth, and the special cannoli is a perfect finish. Every bite tastes authentic and full of soul. If you’re craving real southern Italian cooking, this is the place.

new authentic Italian gem in Great Kills, and it honestly felt like the return of something Staten Island forgot it needed. This isn’t just another “American Italian” restaurant — it’s a real deal Italian place and Italian family from Italy that came recently few years back, bringing back the real Italian culture that Staten Island lost way long ago. I’ve been to Italy and they’re bringing all the culture back here. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with genuine Italian hospitality — the kind you don’t come across anymore. It’s a family-run spot with heart, history, and pride behind everything they do, and you can feel it in the atmosphere. The food? Exceptional. Every bite was straight quality and unmistakably fresh — no shortcuts, no gimmicks — just honest, delicious Italian cooking the way it’s meant to be. The ingredients speak for themselves, and so does the craftsmanship in every plate that hits the table. This is exactly what the community needs right now: a place that reminds us what true Italian dining is about — warmth, tradition, and quality. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who appreciates real food, real people, and a restaurant with a story worth supporting. A must-visit that I know will become a staple in Great Kills.

A few weeks back, we were in Staten Island visiting my boyfriend's family and decided to pop into Pierogi Island for a quick dinner. First off, the inside is cute! Since it was so windy, I went straight for the borscht. It was just what I needed! It had that perfect balance of sweet and savory, with just a tiny bit of tang. We also got some cheese and potato pierogies with their garlic sauce, and they were really tasty and definitely filling! I was bummed I couldn't try more, as a lot of the meat options were pork-based, and I was hoping to try their stuffed cabbage. But honestly, the pierogies alone were worth it. Overall, I'd totally recommend Pierogi Island. The service was fast and polite, and the prices were great. If you're craving pierogies, definitely check them out!

The pierogis were soft, tasty, and fresh, especially with sour cream. The cabbage stew and stuffed cabbage were delicious and filling. Everything tasted homemade. I’d definitely eat here again!

Pierogi Island is a place that amazed me from the very beginning. My husband ordered the Polish Platter, and it absolutely met his expectations. I order Zapiekanka and was not disappointed either. The food is fresh, the portions are large, and most importantly, very tasty! The beautiful rustic interior and friendly service complete the experience. As a Polish woman, this restaurant took me back to my childhood and homemade Polish food. I recommend Pierogi Island to everyone who wants to taste authentic homemade Polish dishes. I will definitely be back.

The food was delicious. Would especially recommend the polish platter with Kielbasa and Hunters Stew. Borscht was great too. Will definitely be back. Also a benefit that it’s conveniently located only a short walk from the SIR Great Kills train station

Yelp
I have dined at Pierogi Island twice in the last three months and i have got to say the food is outstanding. I had the polish platter the first time then the second Ukrainian borscht with ruskie perogies (potato and cheese) and they were best thing to have on a winter day. The service is top notch as the staff is friendly and prompt. The restaurant is small but nice and cozy giving it an intimate ambiance.

Yelp
Tried Pierogi Island for the first time and everything we had was great. The Borscht was delicious but I'd especially recommend the polish platter. The kielbasa was delicious and had a great mustard on it. The hunters stew was excellent as well. Nice cozy interior for sit down service with a good atmosphere. Convenient location and short walk from the SIR train station
