"The steadfast presence at Upper East Side Taiwanese restaurant Pig Heaven, owner Nancy Lee, has retired from her post — selling the restaurant to new management and marking the end of another era for the nearly 35-year-old restaurant. Lee, who is 62 years old, has been with the restaurant for over three decades, seeing it through a renovation, relocation, and many years of changes in the neighborhood. The restaurant remains open without her. Lee started working as a host at Pig Heaven the year it opened, after immigrating from Taiwan. It was her first job in the U.S., but she didn’t necessarily see herself running the restaurant, she says. Nonetheless, she took over Pig Heaven in 1987. “I’m a people person, and I like to work with people,” she says. The restaurant ended up being a good fit for that. In doing so, she ended up shepherding a legend of its time through decades. Pig Heaven isn’t as well known in the city now, but for years, it was a destination for Chinese food, pointed to as a solid dining option in the Times as early as 1989 and consistently through 1995. The original space, located at 1540 Second Ave., at of East 80th Street, sported a barnyard motif on the outside and a bright pink dining room with neon-lit pigs throughout. It was opened in 1984 by famed Red Farm restaurateur Ed Schoenfeld and chef David Keh, who was considered a pioneer in NYC’s sit-down Chinese restaurant scene. He died in 2003. A 1999 Times look at the restaurant notes a slight decline but credits Lee with renovating the restaurant for a more modern era, replacing the barnyard paraphernalia with hanging lamps and a table of ceramic and carved pigs. In 1999, the Times also noted that the food at Pig Heaven, which had fallen off a bit, was back in top form. With the renovation, Lee restored the restaurant to its former glory. She also became known for her friendly and constant presence in the restaurant, which had a reputation for great service under her ownership. The restaurant closed its original location on Second Avenue in 2014 but reopened at 1420 3rd Ave., near East 81st Street. As the name suggests, Pig Heaven specializes in pork dishes, like its famous spare ribs and Peking-style shredded pork. But it’s also known for its non-pig dishes, like a Peking duck and three cup chicken. The restaurant is still in business but has new ownership and a mostly new staff. Lee says it’s too emotional for her to return. “The customers have become my friends and extended family,” Lee says. She says that while it’s difficult to leave, she’s also looking forward to spending more time with her family. “I’m a grandma, so I think I should give myself a break,” she says. “This has become my American dream,” Lee says." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

So my beloved, who is a Michelin Star trained chef who has mentored with Michel Guerard, Alain Senderens, Pierre Troisgros, Roger Verge, Anne Willan and Barbara Tropp decided to surprise me for for Valentine’s Day. I mention this not to impress anybody, but rather to impress upon you that one can can tell a lot as my father would say, “that one can tell how good the cook is by the food they make.” With that in mind, I want to bring up the woman that my beloved trained with as a mentor, Barbara Tropp —- please look her up in Wikipedia that says that she is the one that introduced Asian cuisine to the Americas. Thus we ordered from this restaurant something that is really hard to make, which is a Chilean Seabass which is crispy and has its own sauce along with a Peking duck which also is difficult to make. And of course we ordered egg drop soup and I have to tell you when I saw how the egg drop soup was not full of yolk and yellow, I realized this place was truly authentic. The best way to describe this place is that my beloved echoed what her mentor would say of how Asian cuisine is so amazing and magnificent. So I leave you with this if you’re looking for a place to get a fortune cookie at the end, this is NOT the place because the fortune is actually the meal itself.

I have to say I really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and very attentive service. From making sure my glass was always filled with water, to making crispy duck sandwiches for us right at the table. We ordered a whole duck along with Lo mein and fried rice and everything was delicious and authentic including the Japanese fried chicken appetizer. Its been a long time since I've had fried rice with egg cooked in it. Our server spoke highly of their spare ribs, so we'll definitely be back to try those. About the atmosphere, the restaurant is very nice, spacious, and has a classy, yet relaxed vibe. Bottom line, the food was beyond delicious, the service was the best and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. We will be back for sure

I came here with my mom and my younger sister for my birthday. It was amazing! The food is soo good! We had the Peking duck, pork fried rice, shrimp fried rice, beef lo mein, string beans and Japanese fried chicken. My sister loved how fresh everything was! The staff is nice and attentive. We’d definitely come back here for dinner!

Sadly, the food in Pig Heaven was not “Heaven.” The shredded pork with bean curd and chives ($18.95 plus tax) did not have chives. As one can see from the photo, they used green onions instead. And so the onion taste is more pronounced than if they had actually used chives. But more egregious was the rice. It was not light and fluffy but had the texture of rice scraped from the bottom of the rice cooker. The chicken velvet corn soup ($6.95) was decent but couldn’t make up for the rest of the meal.

Came here to try ribs. Lots of meat compared to other venues. Also the most tender I've had as far as chinese ribs. Taste is on par with our favorite place in Cinatown. We order several dishes. Grand Marnier Shrimp, Lo Mein, Fried Rice, Mushrooms, and Fish Filet. All were delicious though the serving size were smaller than than we expected for the price. The service was friendly and courteous. If you likecribs, give this a try.

A restaurant where the staff really cares about the food and the service. The food is always good and they can accommodate special requests and modifications. Friendly and professional servers and many return customers. Prices are in line with other area restaurants. Fun atmosphere with the pig theme. Definitely recommend

I thought I took photos of my food, I guess I'll have to go back. Hands down maybe the best Chinese food I've had? At least top 5. The sesame beef is 10/10. The orange chicken is phenomenal. I was ready to go back and eat there again day 2.

Pig Heaven is the best chinese restaurant ever! My family and I have been going here every week for 4 years. Mandy is my favorite waitress, she always brings good energy, a sense of humor and good recommendations. Pig Heaven feels like home to me

Yelp
Have been going here / ordering in for years and even with Covid and new(ish) ownership, the food quality has remained consistently good. Extremely fast delivery / take out. Definitely a go to spot for high quality Chinese food and bbq ribs in the area

Yelp
Came here because seemed like people loved the spare ribs........yeah I wasn't feeling it. The Pig Heaven Chicken had legit no flavor. I will say the soup dumplings were not bad. Insanely overpriced for bad American Chinese food. The vibe of this place is extremely strange to me. I don't see myself coming back.

Yelp
An upper east side gem, for years I have walked past and today I'm mad today is my first time trying it. I had the sesame chicken it was really fresh and tasty. My only complaint is their plum sauce on the side it's kinda watery in my opinion in comparison to designer Chinese spots but this ain't designer but it'll do the job the closest thing you'll get to old school New York take out. The decor is nice inside I saw a family having lunch.

Yelp
I ordered the ribs small order $25. They were meaty, however dried out. Would've been great if not dried out!!! I ordered the sesame chicken, which was very good sweet but not overly sweet better than most. I feel like I wasted $25 though on the ribs! very disappointed, $45 plus tip for one dish that was good. I guess I will never be ordering again ribs. just edited review now I called the restaurant and told them how dry they were so I wasn't looking at the menu and I said OK. I'm going through pain. That's why I'm ordering in every day twice a day. I have sciatica and can't go out. The woman says pick another dish so off the top of my head. I wanted something lighter. I said shrimp and peapods she said no it's more money. It's $2.50 more my principal said my God they could've made it with a shrimp or two less and just sent it out how cheap they've been around 35 years. Then she blamed me and said the ribs were how they should be it's me! I'm a senior citizen. I've eaten out my whole life like others. I know what tender great ribs are and good food. There are other dish was excellent. This was dry. My God I almost choked to death. She would not stop saying more or less blaming me. I have all my teeth. How insulting. God forbid it should be maybe from the night before and reheated and dry, it was dry and chewy. I told her to pick it up not good. Awful people! Blaming the customer.! I guess I'll have to take it up with my credit card. This is unreal. It has to be really bad and uneditable and dry as hell for me to complain. All she wanted to do was blame me beware! I'll give credit with credit is due like I said my chicken dish was very good sweet but not overly sweet like other restaurants but these ribs were dry and I believe they're from the night before. How dare she blame me. I wanted to enjoy it. I'm disappointed and she's giving me a hard time. I just hung up on her. She's impossible.

Yelp
They are known for their spare ribs. They're expensive but they're very good. The rest of the food was average and pricey. The stars are for the ribs. The service is rushed. We went early. Had a 5 o'clock reservation and we were back out on the street at 6:15, not my idea of relaxing Also very noisy.

Carly C.

Yelp
Eh I was pretty disappointed with my meal this past weekend at pig heaven. I heard great things about the spare ribs and don't understand the hype at all. I was picturing fall off the bone ribs with a tasty sauce and I didn't get any of that. The meat was dry and most definitely not the worth the price. I also got the pig heaven chicken and was very throw off by the weird aluminum foil presentation and the mix of half onion half chicken in the dish. It was a glorified kung pao chicken. A very pricey restaurant for the low quality of food. I did enjoy the dumplings but the restaurant had weird vibes so I don't think I'd come back.

Leslie Gould R.

Yelp
Food and service amazing !! Can't wait to return for more Peking duck, yummy dumplings and quite a few other dishes. All great.

Yelp
Good neighborhood spot for Chinese in UES Craving Chinese food in the UES? This place will scratch that itch. Their prices aren't actually too different from takeout places nearby even though this spot is an actual restaurant. They're supposedly really good for their ribs. As a Chinese person who had a craving for Beef Chow Fun and was far from Chinatown/Queens I opted to try it out here and it actually wasn't bad. Have come back more than a few times, and it def scratches the itch of authentic Chinese food though it is def UES prices; also the beef chow fun was better the second time around - so consistency maybe could use some work but I now think of this place if I'm wanting Chinese food in this neighborhood. Beef Chow Fun Chinese Broccoli - I got this once and it was the crunchier side, maybe could have been cooked a tad more Water Spinach w Garlic - love getting my vegetables this way, nice and garlicky.

Yelp
The pineapple fried rice was somewhat under-salted and bereft of wok hey; it was still decent but decidedly anodyne. The spinach was done well and had ample seasoning. The pork ribs were good but saccharine. The Peking duck was would've been better characterized as roast duck with additional wrappings. Service was impeccable and decor was very clean. In totality, it was perfectly acceptable if expectations were geared towards a Westernized palate.

Yelp
I have been to many similar restaurants. Among all of them, Pig Heaven stands out because of their cozy atmosphere, delicious food, variety of drinks and excellent service. I always have a very nice overall experience when I come here with my family or friends. If there is one particular dish I highly recommend, it's the ribs. Looking forward to coming back again.

Yelp
As a vegetarian I found the food to be average. There were some good options to pick from and service was quick. Food came out fast and hot! The portions are also a good size and the place is reasonably priced. It's a simple restaurant nothing fancy, it's nice to just go somewhere casual and comfortable.

James H.

Yelp
I ordered take out from pig heaven last night. True to their name, the ribs were transcendent- big meaty and delicious. Everything else was okay, but only okay. We ordered chicken soong and it was decidedly flat. We ordered soup dumplings which were okay and cold sesame doodles which were too thick with an uninspiring sesame paste sauce.

Glenn C.

Yelp
Short Review: As per essentially every other person reviewing this place, order the Spare Ribs. They are outstanding and well known for a very good reason. I went here with one of much larger groups a while back. We were pleasantly surprised judging originally by the location and we can see why they've been open for so long. The food here is a mix of Cantonese and Szechuan with I think the Siu Mei and Szechuan being the best parts. The wall has thanks (of course on pig signs) from various customers with my favorite one being someone who wrote Kosher for Passover and the ambiance in general was more retro. As there is no direct menu online for some reason, I won't be listing my usual prices in parentheses. I don't remember getting anything to drink outside of water and maybe tea though some others got beer and someone got wine I believe. Staff/service was friendly. We of course first got the BBQ Spare Ribs. These aren't that normal spare ribs you find in your average Chinese American spot but massive meaty pieces. There was a good mix of fat to meat and the ribs were fall off the bone tender and the sauce wasn't as overly sweet as other places. This was the best dish of the night and I can see why they've been famous for them. We also got some Peking Duck as this is one of the many places our host has gone to in order to find the best Peking Duck in the city. The meat was pretty tasty though not as tender/flavorful as some other spots. The skin had a good amount of crisp and was the best part of it and the pancakes were good and thin. It was fine in short though I've had better. From the Szechuan side, we got the Chong Qing Spicy Diced Chicken/Laziji. Surprisingly amount of mala spice for an Upper East Side spot and the chicken wasn't overly fried. Very solid version and better than some primarily Szechuan spots I've been to. Good stuff. Also from the Szechuan side was the Hotpot Beef Fillets With Mixed Vegetables. This was also solid in terms of spice though the beef was a bit tough with my favorite part actually being the potatoes which were covered in said spice and the crunchy lotus root. From the Cantonese side, the Eggplant With Chicken In Garlic Sauce was solid. Well cooked eggplant though there could have been a bit more diced chicken and the garlic sauce was well flavored. The Crispy Whole Sea Bass With Chef Special Sauce was the weakest dish by a fair bit. The fish was meaty and not too fried but the special sauce was way too sweet and too thickened with cornstarch. The portion size was fine but I wouldn't really recommend much. Overall the food here was solid. If you're looking for BBQ spare ribs and also some pretty solid Szechuan food, it's kind of hard to find a better one especially around that area. I would definitely go back. Low 4 though approaching higher because of the area.

Yelp
Food ok but VERY sneaky and dishonest when tallying up on line bill and adding in a $13.73 tip for delivery guy when i wrote in i would give him $5 for the 2 blocks he had to walk to deliver the food. I went down to give him a tip when the food was delivered but was already gone. Looked on my AMEX bill and saw that they had charged me a 1375 anyway. I called them on the phone and they said it's because I used GrubHub. Which I didn't. I use their website. The receipt was all written in Chinese and English. GrubHub doesn't do that. In any event they were very sneaky about it and frankly I will never use them again. They are deceitful sneaky and liars

Yelp
I think I'm here for my annual review to go along with my growing collection of pictures of their ribs but I have to communicate that you cannot go wrong with Pig Heaven. The service is still efficient and accommodating. The ribs are definitely still ribbing, and I also have to implore you to try something different on the menu along with the ribs when you go. The sizzling dishes always smell so fragrant and the duck is actually pretty great too. I can always rely on Pig Heaven to provide me with good food, service and a nice and clean place to dine solo or catch up with someone. I can also count on them for a strong cocktail but that's a review for another day...

Yelp
Came here to try their soup dumplings, but we left disappointed and hungry. We noticed a lot of odd things: 1. They never offered us chopsticks to eat the soup dumplings with - only forks and knives were set on the table. We had to ask for chopsticks and they gave us disposable wooden chopsticks used for their takeout orders. 2. Our order came SUPER fast within 5 minutes. The dumplings were lukewarm and not steaming. 3. Some of the dumplings were already popped so they did not have soup in them. 4. The skin is on the thicker side. The broth was not memorable. 5. It was the first time I did not see a Chinese restaurant put ginger in the vinegar sauce. The sauce itself was not vinegary at all - just tasted more like soy sauce. 6. Price is definitely on the higher end compared to other Chinese restaurants nearby. The restaurant is spacious and clean and the service was okay, but for the food quality, I would not recommend coming here.

Melissa L.

Yelp
When I moved back to the city one of the first things on my agenda was to find my go-to Chinese restaurant. I must have tried 8 different places before trying Pig Heaven. Something about the name was holding me back. I'm glad I got past the name because this is my, hands down, favorite Chinese restaurant. The food is soooooo yummy. I can't stand salty food and can honestly say that every time I've eaten there the salt level is perfection. The wait staff is attentive and super friendly. Zero complaints. Highly recommend.

Shereena F.

Yelp
We were grateful that Pig Heaven was open on Thanksgiving Day as many restaurants were closed in observance of the holiday. We managed to order a few dishes for takeout back to the hospital. The service was efficient and the overall look of the restaurant seemed nice. However, I wasn't very impressed by what we ordered and for that reason I don't think I would visit again, but again I was appreciative of the restaurant being open.

Yelp
In search of good Chinese food in UES, this was next on my list. I've read about the spare ribs and the glowing reviews so I was optimistic. Boy, was I wrong. The service was terrible, to start. Perhaps due to the low morale of an empty place, the waitress AND waiter were moody and pissy. Ambience score is zero. Simple questions were met with passive aggressiveness. That's fine. No big deal. You don't go to Chinese restaurant for the service anyway. Price was way way overpriced. Dim sum dishes were in the teens compared to other spots in UES at the 8-9$ range. I wasn't expecting Chinatown prices (6-7$) but $11-12$ for some dumplings can only fool the non-authentic diners who find the existence of dim sum to be a victory within itself. Spareribs for $30$. Bruh... c'mon now. Food -- for me, terrible service and overpricing can be overlooked if you can back it up with good food. Unfortunately, food is not authentic and MSGed up to wazoo to fool unsuspecting UES diners. I drank 4 glasses of water and still feel thirsty afterwards. The vegetable dish was oily and too heavily seasoned and salty. The spareribs were over sauced and burnt in places so was a bit tough and inconsistent. The other dishes were uninspiring and just plain meh... At the end, they impatiently ushered us out of an empty restaurant and stood over you while you tipped. The other waiter quickly asked about how much I tipped (15% even when it sucked). I knew because I speak the language! I go out of my way to not leave a bad review but I feel like I need to warn other UES diners so they don't make the same mistake. I recognize the prior reviews were before the ownership change. Seems like Nancy's legacy was not preserved with new ownership. Sorry pig heaven, it was Pig Hell for us.

Holly S.

Yelp
I had ordered food from here in the past and I wanted to give it a try again. I remembered I enjoyed the boneless spareribs here and I figured I would get them and some fried dumplings. I get there and the woman at the front wasn't the friendliest so I was a bit turned off from that. I walked across the street to go into a store while I was waiting for my order to be ready. I had asked specifically for some house duck sauce with my order and when I got home, it wasn't there. The dumplings were a bit on the doughy side and not crispy at all, barely any color on them. The boneless ribs were ok, not as good as before. They needed a bit more flavor and char too. Since its not really near where I work, I may or may not stop by again.

Yelp
I love this place! The staff is so so friendly it's kind of crazy how accommodating they are and don't try to make you feel like a bother. The ambiance inside is nice. I like all the bugs on the walls in the back haha. And it makes sense! Their steamed pork buns are some of the best I've had! Steam BBQ Pork Buns: 11/10 The buns are fluffy and the pork filling is flavorful and the meat isn't fatty. I always get these when I come and highly recommend. They're a bit pricey for pork buns in pairs but so worth it. BBQ Pork ribs: 8.5/10 These ribs are really good! They're like your classic bbq pork but on a rib. The sauce is good it's just not my preferred way to eat bbq pork because the meat texture is different. The orange chicken is pretty good but could be more crispy. The lo mein is average. My favorite thing is their dim sum. I would come for the dumplings and buns and try other things if you're craving them.

Blair P.

Yelp
From the takeout experience, nothing was groundbreaking about anything we ordered, despite ordering a lot. For my next takeout, I'll never think, "Oh, let's get Pig Heaven!" The ribs were fine, but nowhere near fall-off-the-bone, melt-in-your-mouth quality.

Nina R.

Yelp
I have been coming to Pig Heaven for years. It's one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in NYC. Everything I have had here is amazing! While I love their specialties, roast pork spare ribs and roast pork butt, their veggie dishes are equally fantastic. My go-to's are their wonton soup, soup dumplings, prawns with broccoli, and roast pork fried rice. Service is fantastic! Mandy is "the mayor" she knows everyone and greets one with a warm welcome and attentive care. Everybody loves Mandy, she is the sweetest. Everyone who works here is kind, friendly, and helpful. You know the food is good when you eat a huge meal, but you're also looking at everyone else's plates for future inspiration. I'm grateful for Pig Heaven!!

Carol F.

Yelp
So disappointing! Fatty spare ribs, shrimp with lobster sauce was more soup than shrimp. The chicken was rubbery. Everything was expensive and salty. The food from Ollie's take out was better and less expensive. The restaurant was noisy and crowded. Do not go there!

Alicia P.

Yelp
Partner and I visited for dinner recently. We got the Japanese fried chicken, spare ribs, and meat and. Crab steamed dumplings with two beers . The food was great and came out quite quickly! The spare ribs were definitely the highlight of the meal and would very much recommend to come back. The service was quick and the ambiance was nice. There were many families there and lots of delivery orders going out as well. A nice place that we'll definitely be back to, seems to be good both for an evening in and to take out and they're speedy with great food! Will definitely be back!

Joshua E.

Yelp
We went to Pig Heaven to try out the spareribs that many folks had been talking about. Many in the UES seem to love this place. We arrived and the staff was amazing. They were friendly, had a great attitude, and were extremely responsive and attentive throughout our meal. Thumbs up to the staff! I told the server I was interested in the ribs, and she said they were fantastic and suggested the larger plate. We got that and some shrimp. We love spareribs, and let me say I was so happy that we got the large order. We ate every last one. They were delicious. They did remind me of other spareribs, but these were two or three times larger. Great flavor. The shrimp was also delicious but we couldn't finish them . Come here for the ribs (and if you're hungry). Thumbs up. We definitely will be back!

Pups H.

Yelp
sadly Pig Heven does not resemble the restaurant under Nancy Lee. The three glass chicken, which arrived in a clay casserole, is now inedible. over sauced, no basil and hard garlic, huge chunks of ginger. Likewise the chicken soong, which was a signature dish was inedible. the family style tofu wasn't bad. the spare ribs are still very good. This will be the last time that I will eat there. Ed Schoenfeld, who once started this restaurant should be utterly appalled .

Aisling D.

Yelp
Great food options, menu had so many options, everything we ordered we would do so again, super quick delivery! Picks - crispy beef, soup dumplings, ribs!

Royce L.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat. The food is really good and the service is great. Authentic Chinese Cuisine. They also have dim sum here as well which are under their appetizers. I've tried most of the pork dishes here and they were all good. It's a full menu, not just pork ha. Peking Duck is also on the menu through I have yet to try it. There's probably a dozen tables or so and a bar as well. Their outdoor seating is also still available which I sat in on a recent visit. Everyone is pleasant too.

Susan B.

Yelp
We had beef chow fun and a chicken dish. Food was extremely salty!! Too much soy sauce. Really not necessary

Domenick S.

Yelp
Not a really good Chinese restaurant. So many better places in N.Y.C. Upper east side is not were you go for Chow Fun. I tried and failed.

Yelp
AWFUL Experience at Pig Heaven Chinese Restaurant This weekend, my wife and I reserved a table at the Pig Heaven Chinese Restaurant on Third Ave. near 81 St. We hoped to have a fine meal at a recommended venue. We ended up with an INCOMPETENT waiter who did not seem to speak English well and did not understand our questions or our order. I asked for a bottle of plum wine and was first told that the available bottle was too big for us. We said that we'd take any leftover vino home. He said that "Law" prohibited that. I knew better, but let it pass and then ordered a Rose from their limited wine list. The waiter returned with a normal-sized bottle of Plum Wine and asked if we wanted it. I said, "Yes" and that if we didn't finish it with our meal we'd take the remainder home. Again, he insisted that "Law" prohibited that. I informed him that I was QUITE familiar with the "Law" regarding this matter and that I had been to HUNDREDS of NY restaurants that allowed me to take home leftover wine. NONE of them ever cited this non-existent "law." I requested another waiter and, instead, a woman came out (maybe the manager or owner?) and, as I began to explain that it is perfectly legal to take home undrunk wine, she shouted "Law!" at me and turned away, interrupting my explanation in midstream. My wife and I left after such rude and customer-unfriendly treatment. I therefore urge others to boycott Pig Heaven, especially those who enjoy a glass or two of wine with a meal and don't want to pay for a whole bottle if you only drink half at the eatery. Here's a summary of the relevant NY State law: New York state law allows restaurant patrons to take home leftover wine in certain circumstances: 1. Restaurant must reseal: The restaurant must reseal the bottle of wine. 2. Tamper-proof bag: The bottle must be placed in a tamper-proof bag. 3. Receipt: The customer must leave the restaurant with a receipt that shows they ate a meal with the wine.

Yelp
Delicious food with extremely fast delivery from the restaurant when I ordered through GrubHub. I highly recommend the ribs and the pan fried pork buns. The snow peas with shrimp was OK, but it was a small portion for the price of this dish.

Kenneth B.

Yelp
My husband and I saw reviews for this restaurant and we decided to try it. While the food was, good the service was terrible. We were served our appetizer which was the sesame noodle which was ok and the dumpling which was great. However it took forever for our entree to be served. We waited over 45 min and then started complaining about where our food was. They gave an excuse that they didn't want to serve it when we still had our appetizer on the table, which didn't make any sense. We asked to cancel the rest of the order and then they brought the food out. The food was good but not worth the long wait. They gave the same apology when it was served. We paid our bill and left.

Yelp
Very nice place with good food and absolutely value for money. The staff is nice and very attentive. They also offer a good choice of vegetarian meals. If you are close by, go for it. I will definitely go again when I am in town.

Yelp
FOOD: 4 ** Waitress keeps on telling me that soup dumpling is cooked well, but it wasn't. ** SERVICE: 3 Only one server is working every time I go. When the restaurant is busy, expect a delay! The server is very busy! Hard worker! Serves and makes Dumpling at the same time. Sanitation issue?! Menu and recipe leather pad (mini black folder) covered with Dumpling flower. ** Don't ask any help from the cashier even though she is doing nothing at that moment. She doesn't help you. Only think she does is ring the cash register (pos system) and prepare togo orders.**

Yelp
Have walked past many times but finally came to check it out. Things did not start well. We had made a booking via yelp for 7 people. However when we got inside the hostess did not have the booking, also she only had a paper notebook with reservations, and no screen anywhere, so it would seem the electronic reservations you make just disappear into the sky! After coming back 30 mins later we were seated, seems like there is an early rush but it calms down later. We ordered from across the menu, pork ribs were good, dumplings ok, tried lots of different rice and noodle dishes. Service was, as other reviews have mentioned, fairly bad. Our waiter did make an attempt to try and be friendly but it all felt as if we should be lucky to be allowed to eat. Then took a while to be able to order drinks, and one of our dishes never came out. Overall the food is decent, but feels like a place that is living on its prior reputation and clientele. If they fix the booking system and staff became a bit more friendly / attentive then would be great.

Yelp
Good ribs. Overrated. Overpriced. Eggplant dish lacked depth of flavor. Place fell short of my expectations based on other reviews.

Yelp
Our favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Very friendly and fast service. Excellent food.

Yelp
Food was amazing and delicious. Not the greatest interior of a restaurant, but I'm not there for ambiance. Staff is friendly and will help you select a great meal

Yelp
Looking around for somewhere to eat after a day at The Met, and we found this place. I regret nothing. The small spareribs order contains six, and they are out-gotdamned-standing. I had spicy sliced pork, and it had plenty of flavor. Added bonus: when Chinese restaurants say "spicy" you're left to wonder if it's authentic hot or, um, vanilla hot. This was authentic. A bit of burn, and savory . I scooped in my white rice, because that sauce was amazing. This was a happy accident, and one I'd repeat when in the city again.

Yelp
I second what Jillian said. I used to love the ribs here , they were AMAZING.., but now... they are not even mediocre.. NOW THEY ARE JUST BAD !!!. I do not understand reducing the quality when you have a follow and people willing to pay a premium for delicious ribs. Now you still pay a small fortune, but you get dry , hardly any meat on the bone, ribs. I'm sad to say, I'm done with Pig Heaven, and moving on!

Yelp
Came here to try Chinese food given it was near the MET. Was very disappointed in the quality - the xiaolongbao was undercooked and raw and the bbq pork was tough as jerky, definitely one of the least favorite Chinese restos i ve had in nyc

Yelp
The food was nothing short of amazing!!! Worth every penny! We couldn't even finish it. Our waiter was excellent too. Drinks were on point and the ambiance was nice and intimate. Will be going back.

Yelp
It's official. I'm no longer a patron of Nancy Lee's Pig Heaven. It's slowly changed once it was sold. That's to be expected. This change is definitely not for the better. Initially, the ribs at least resembled the same recipe as Nancy Lee once had. No longer. Originally, they would the top slab of Reds look beautiful and the ones underneath. Now, they no longer even resemble appearance nor taste to the old recipe. The meat was subpar. Basically, it's almost inedible. I am done ordering from there, at least the ribs, anyway. Sorry to say good-bye. Good-bye.

Yelp
Have you seen the tiktok that you should go to 3.5 star Chinese locations because anything 4 and above were ranked high because they a) cater to western tastes and/or b) because the service was better than the food. This is true for Pig Heaven. The location and decor is very nice. One of the cleanest Chinese restaurants I've been to that isn't $$$ price sign. With that being said, with so many authentic and cheap Chinese options in NYC, this wasn't one of them. Their dish prices were in the $20+ range each and their portions were what you may expect from an SF based location. I had been spoiled too much by the portions and prices of Chinese restaurants outside of this particular borough. The taste is very much catered to people with a western taste, think orange chicken and chow fun. Soups are $4 for a small, single serving bowl. Hot tea is an extra charge, not included and served on the table. They had forks out for guests, not chop sticks, if that doesn't scream enough information to you. And true to the tiktok, I give them 4 stars because their location was very nice and clean; staff was amazing; and the food wasn't horrible? But I certainly wouldn't come back, I'd much rather spend my money in Flushing or Chinatown and get some real good wok grub

Yelp
Very nice atmosphere and staff super helpful and friendly. Nice menu choices served hot and fresh. Extensive drink list if your into that thing? Worth a visit if your in the area.
