Pig in a Pickle BBQ

First time trying Pig in a Pickle BBQ, and it did not disappoint! We ordered the beef brisket, baby back ribs, mac 'n' cheese, and coleslaw, and everything was excellent! The beef brisket was unbelievably tender and juicy, with a perfect smokiness from the California White Oak. The flavor of the meat was so rich and delicious that it didn’t even need any sauce. The baby back ribs were equally impressive, falling off the bone with every bite. The mac 'n' cheese was creamy, and the coleslaw was a refreshing complement to the meats. Without a doubt, this is the best BBQ I’ve had in 2024!

As an amateur bbq/smoking guy, how does this place have a 3.9? I almost didn’t order based on the google reviews but something told me to give it a try. I ordered the brisket as well as hot links and both were fantastic. I’ve been doing briskets myself and while they are fantastic, it’s a ton of work and candidly, I think this place taste better. The only thing I will say is the brisket was not strongly seasoned and I can see folks in that area wanting salty but the smoke was perfect. Definitely coming back here again to try the other offerings.

Best BBQ in the bay, hands down. Brisket is better than anywhere else, ribs are delicious, and you got to try their potato salad.

On the price your side but completely worth it... It is Some of the best barbecue brisket I've had in the bay the meat so soft and melt-in-your-mouth go with the hot BBQ sauce to complete the flavor profile it is worth every cent. The mac and cheese is really good but for the best side go with the cornbread and the potato salad. They might recommend the third town but go with at least half a pound it is that good you'll want more.

I decided to try this place for lunch today because I hvnt been but got confused with the menu. I saw people having bbq sandwiches but it was not on their menu. I decided to ask the service person about the sandwiches and he said I can order any amount of meat and they can put it between a bun. I ended up ordering half a pound of brisket ($15), a hot link ($8), a small potato salad ($3.5) and cornbread ($3) with a side of mild bbq sauce... with tax & tip, roughly $35. So not cheap but I did order a few things. Let me just say, both the brisket (fatty - my preference, not lean) and hot link were delicious! I wished I ordered more because my husband ate most of it (he was waiting on his burger & fries from another place😒). The sauce was tasty as well as the potato salad! The cornbread was plentiful n served with some honey butter. I would definitely order from them again. SO glad, I have another fav place I can go to, to get something to eat here at the Emeryville Public Market.

I wanted to like this place, but it does have it's flaws. First they sell their meat by the pound, but it ended up $2.00 more than avertised price. The ribs were dry and sold at room temperature. The sides were just warmer then room temperature.The sauce was just okay. I assume you must take your food home to heat it up yourself. In conclusion: The food was okay but nothing great.

Hotlink was amazing! Well worth the $10. Loved the spice and smokiness. Fatty parts of the fatty brisket were pretty good. Sauces paired well with the BBQ and other foods nearby. Will try some pigs and pickles next time.

This place serves the best brisket I've ever had! I always opt for the fatty brisket while my bf chooses the leaner cut. The meat is always moist and perfectly tender. We keep saying we need to try the other BBQ that they serve but we are still so obsessed with the brisket and we pair it with the Alabama white sauce. OMG! So tasty! As for the sides, we've tried their greens and their mac and cheese. The mac and cheese is yummy but the greens were pretty bland and not seasoned enough. It also tended to be tough and chewy. I prefer my greens to be wayyyy softer than that. As for service, all the guys are always so cheerful. It's a great place to visit because they're located within the Emeryville Public Market that has such a family friendly vibe.

Actual legit BBQ on the west coast. Okay well the Brisket is legit. Collard greens were not it. Mac and cheese was ok. Hot link was ok. Brisket was good. Cornbread was a little dry and didn't have much flavor. I have had worse brisket many times in Texas. Place is worth going for the Brisket. Sauce wise I liked the spicy well enough and the Mustard sauce too. Brisket doesn't need either one though.

My friends and I stopped by for breakfast. The service and our meals came out well prepared and timely. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Overall just a very good experience.

My SO had been wanting to eat at this restaurant for months and we finally had our chance~ We arrived very early and we ordered a pound of brisket, a pound ribs, a hot link, mac n cheese, half a pound of chicken and a cornbread. The food is quite pricey but we have been craving barbecue since we went to Austin in February. The brisket was so tender and flavorful. It was the definition of perfection. The ribs were a skip for us, the chicken was decent and the hot link because something we were burping for the rest of the day. The mac n cheese was flavorful and the cornbread was well made. Most of the things we ordered were stellar and I'd mainly come for the brisket the next time we come back!

This was quite a pleasing surprise. We shared one pound of ribs with my mama and one small potato salad and it was some of the best BBQ food I had in the Bay Area. The ribs were smoky and tender. The BBQ sauce was on point, and the potato salad was decadent and plentiful. we can't wait to go back

Hella legit BBQ!! The brisket was perfection - falling apart tender, juicy, smoky, great bark. All the meats are sold "by the pound", but you can order less than a pound. Exceptional sides! Notably, everything was the perfect temperature. Often with BBQ everything it's kind of the same luke-warm temperature, but not here - the brisket and mac-n-cheese were hot, the coleslaw and pickle were both refreshingly crispy cold, the potato salad was comfortingly cool, and the cornbread muffin was room temp perfection. Can't wait to go back and try the other meats and sides!! Counter service was fast, professional, and kind. The Food Hall shared seating is kind of a fun casual atmosphere too!

This brisket can turn a vegetarian into a pork eating carnivore! I've never really enjoyed Brisket, or even understood why people liked it, until now. Now I know, I've just had crappy brisket. This place has me believing and seeing why people like brisket. This brisket was marbled, tender, warm, and juicy. I was wondering why it took me so long to be converted from my usual ribs to brisket, until now. I got the ribs too and thought they were okay (a but dry), but the brisket was clearly the 10 star winner. The pulled pork was another winner. Really tender and fresh and spiced right in front of your eyes as he chops it up. Get this and make yourself a sandwich, or better yet, give him an extra dollar and some change, and he'll literally make it for you. He has the bread right there and made one for the woman in front of me. I just ate the pork straight out of the box with my sides. Speaking of sides here we go: Mac and cheese: Great, cheesy, and hot. What you expect and want from this comfort food. 3.5/5 Collard greens: This is , drain out the water, but it's tender and good. It felt like the healthiest side here. 4/5 Special chili: Saw this Brisket chili and decided to buy it. Not really a chili....more like brisket pieces and sauce 3/5 stars Corn bread: My least favorite since it was more hard and dry, like a weird corn puck that you can play hockey with. I added some butter, and it was still meh. 1/5 Potato Salad: A hit with my roommates. Not very mustard like. Great red potatoes and tasted like a great picnic potato salad. 4/5 Seriously Great BBQ brisket that is 10 star worthy and the best food stall in the whole Emeryville Public Market.

Once again amazing ribs and collard greens. There was a long line and I scored the very last order of ribs. Service here is always extremely friendly and helpful. As for ambiance, it's the Emeryville public market. It's noisy and often crowded. But that's to be expected. I dined alone tonight, so I sat at the bar and ordered a diet coke. Sounds great experience.

Great BBQ! If you don't mind paying little extra for it. Love the Public Market definitely a place where I'll take my wife for date night. Clean location with plenty of seating. Now to the food, I got a 1/4 lbs of brisket, hot link, cornbread and a drink for $30 including the tip. I don't normally spend that much on lunch (hell really any money on lunch) but I thought I'd treat myself. Found this place right here on yelp with great reviews and it didn't disappoint. Service was fast and friendly despite being really busy. Will definitely return. The Emeryville public market has quite a a few smaller/family owned place. Check it out guaranteed to find something to eat!

5 stars 5 stars 5 stars !! Just went here with my hubby. Got an order of the brisket, and an order of the baby back ribs. I highly recommend both !! Especially the brisket. It had to be the best brisket I've had hands down. We also got some of the Mac and cheese which they used white cheddar and I normally don't like but this one was so flavorful and creamy. Oh and the greens were also a hit, so much flavor and juice. With bits of pork in it. Then last but not least we tried the brisket chilli which was also very delicious, loaded with meat and they gave us some white cheese to put in it. I'm so full right now. So glad we tried this place. Don't sleep on Pig in a Pickle, they're definitely worth the price

Came with my sister on a birthday lunch. We ordered brisket, hot links and ribs. For our side we had potatoe salad, Mac and cheese and corn bread. Everything was amazing! I've always been told you rate the restaurant by their brisket. The brisket did not disappoint, it was juicy and tender. All our sides were very good. You have to try this place if you are in the emeryville area it's inside the emeryville public market. We wanted Indian food but once that bbq smell hit us we quick changed our minds

Came here for a quick lunch and got a plate to share w my sister and mom! Loved how you can pick how much or how little meat you want since it's priced by the pound! We ended up getting a 1/2 pound of chicken, 1/2 pound of ribs, & 1/2 pound of pulled pork! Everything was around $30 + we got a small potato salad + unsweetened iced tea which brought it to $40. The ribs were definitely our favorite. It literally FELL OFF THE BONE and was one of the best ribs we've ever had. The chicken was moist and flavorful w/ crispy skin. The pulled pork was super moist and just so good as well. Our only critique was that the barbecue sauce was not the best. We got the mild and medium and it just tasted way too watery. My sister said the mustard sauce they had was better though! Loved the quick service and the entire concept of the food hall / market. Seems like people who work nearby like to come here for a quick and tasty lunch.

I go to a lot of barbecue spots and by far this one has the best brisket and sides. The brisket was melting your mouth juicy. I've been going out of my way to come to this place lately because all the other barbecue spots in Oakland, Berkeley, and Danville do not cook the brisket long enough and it's tough to chew. I would recommend anybody who loves good brisket and barbecue to stop by here and check them out.

Husband was craving some bbq and this was the closest to where we were at. The food was ok. We had ribs, sausage and brisket. We also ordered a side of coleslaw and potato salad. I asked for bbq sauce twice as we were taking it to go. We got no bbq sauce, the coleslaw cup was half full. This is not the best bbq place but if we do decided to come back we would eat there to make sure the order is correct or check everything before walking away. It is in a food market, a lot of good options and very loud when it's busy.

Pig in a Pickle is located inside Public Market, which makes it super convenient to grab some great bbq whenever a craving hits. My favorites are the brisket and hot links with the spicy bbq sauce. The brisket is super tender with a nice smoke ring and bark. I preordered a few pounds of meat for a party recently and got more fatty pieces than I would have liked. If you order at the counter, they usually let you request if you want leaner meat which is my preference. The prices for meat seem to be on par with other places in the East Bay...so a bit expensive, but a yummy treat every once in a while!

I only know the sides from this place. And I keep coming back for them. The potato salad is freaking amazing, it's mustardy and full of glory. The Mac and cheese is so good I haven't gotten a chance to take a picture of it because I always eat it too quickly. The service is great, quite friendly and i got a bonus extra pickle today!

I am a backyard BBQer and I am pretty particular on my smoked meats. Been to many bbq restaurants in NorCal and Pig in a Pickle is bar none my favorite place for Texas/North Carolina style bbq. Although price may seem high for some, one must take into consideration the time it takes to prepare (trim brisket and season) and smoke (16 hours. Cost of meat is high as well. I highly recommend the brisket while sampling all the sauces. Mac and cheese, collard greens, and potato salad are excellent sides as well. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable on anything bbq. 10/10 , highly recommend

7/29/23 One of 2 best American BBQ's I've had in the last 3 years, after moving to Oakland from San Jose. Absolutely f'in amazing. If you're the type to watch YT videos of pit masters doing their thing, and going over all the rituals, temps, and resting techniques with them (I'm not, but have on occasion)...... then this is the YT watcher's California dream. All the BBQ is black with crust and caramelization and smoke, yet glistening with moisture, just like on YT. And biting into it... gawd... you know the owners are obsessive too. Smoke smoke pink smoke almost all the way through! I think the only reason this place may have imperfect marks would be they're HELLA expensive. You can easily eat $50 worth of meat in one sitting. EASILY... 1. Beef Brisket $32 / lb: So, as I said, hella expensive. You're like oh... 1lb is a lot!.... um, well, maybe their scale is broken but it was basically a 3" long x 5-6" wide piece cut up into 6 pieces. It really isn't a lot. $32 just like that. But OMFG...... just soooo juicy. I did say to the cashier, "Give me your fattiest!," so I guess he must have complied. But seriously, the fat was well mixed in, not a big blob anywhere and it makes all the difference in the world. And yes, that pink smoke PENETRATES. Just keeps going and going.... 10/10 2. White Cheddar Mac n Cheese, Medium $11: Don't really remember the specifics but I remember it was good and different, but I forgot how. It was a good size tub. $11 is borderline expensive for this amount. 3. Collard Greens, Medium $11: But $11 for that size tub for greens... yes, expensive. But I can't remember particulars either. 4. Baby Back Ribs $18 / lb: Like the brisket, it was BLACK, glistening, and just asking you to do all kinds of nasty to it in your mouth. And that smoke "ring" just goes clear through. Mega smoke. Sooooo flavorful, juicy, and perfect. Again, expensive though... $18 buys you 4 bones. But they really are absolutely perfect bones--thick with meat and just so perfectly finished. Might be the most perfectly finished ribs I've yet had. 10/10 5. Drink $3: Forgot what I got. Guess that's it. Top 2 I've had up here. Had a little taste of the brisket and the burnt ends, and both were amazing. High quality meat and wonderful flavor. I need to come back here and get a full meal. I would have had a meal here, but I had already eaten 30 mins ago. I'll update this review after I return. Later after leaving, I recognized this as the place where episodes of All the Smoke are filmed. It would be awesome to come back for one of those.

Hubby loves ribs and BBQ, so I thought I would surprise him with a nice takeout box of ribs. So glad I found this place! Everything here is à la carte, you first pick the meats that you would like whether brisket, ribs, chicken, pulled pork, etc., and then you choose your sides and BBQ sauce. I found it to be so convenient this way, as you can customize your meal, getting as much or little of the things you would like and choose the things you enjoy the most. We got a couple of ribs and a pound of brisket and boy was I ever glad! The brisket is one of the best I have ever had, so juicy, tender, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness! We got a pound of it and later I wish we had gotten more! You also get to have your choice of meat with more marbling in it or a leaner cut. I thought that was a very nice option to be offered, especially for the health conscious. The sides we chose were the potato salad and collard greens, both excellent. It's not always easy to find good collard greens. We hit the jackpot with the greens and the juicy tender delicious brisket! I'll definitely come back when next in the area and looking forward to trying their other stuff.

They catered a luncheon at work and the food is very tasty It's not the bbq you would eat at a cook out but it's still good nonetheless it's more like a kinders with more options

A friend and I didn't have any dinner plans, so we haded to the Public Market to select from a variety of cuisines to choose from. As soon as I saw Pig in a Pickle open, I was IN. No need to shop around... I opted for a 1/4lb of brisket (small appetite) with cole slaw, cornbread and sweet tea. All I can say is, YUM! At 1st, I frowned at them giving me a plastic knife, but the brisket was super tender and smoky-tasty (had it with the mild sauce), I had no need for a sharp. The cole slaw was a tangy, and very freshly cut cabbage that offered the right amount of tart. And as for the cornbread...it was a perfectly appointed jalapeno cornbread with a good pat of butter - not the cake-like cornbread, but the hearty traditional cornbread that should be served with BBQ - delish. Thanks to PnaP, I have a new spot!

Was feeling something semi light so we ordered the white Mac n cheese (small), one hot link, and a chicken salad with ranch to share. Everything was great! The hot links were peppery, but not spicy. The chicken salad was great, the pulled chicken was moist. The Mac n cheese was seriously so good. I haven't ordered Mac n cheese in a long time but man that hit the spot. I'd definitely come back to get this meal again, except next time I'd love to have some real bbq brisket or ribs...drool.

Oh, yes, the brisket was very good!! I enjoyed every bite! They will ask if you want a fatty vs lean portion. I ended up with a fatty slice and a smaller lean slice. This equaled to .38 lb or $12.16. At $32 a lb, the brisket is not cheap!! Then 4 of us shared a large order (32oz) of the collard greens $20, which was good. And 3 of us shared a medium order (16 oz) of mac n cheese $11, which was OK. Finally, 4 of us shared a small cup of the sweet potato pudding $5, which was very good. It was a good lunch meal but certainly not cheap. My total was about $24+, I consider that a little pricey for lunch.

Was in Oakland and had a craving for BBQ...stopped by and was NOT disappointed. Baby back ribs and brisket were perfect. Great smoke and solid bark on the brisket. Mild and spicy sauce are solid. Potato salad is on the mustard side but tasty. Finished with the banana pudding and a lemonade. Again, solid spot will be back!

We had the baby back ribs, collard green and potato salad. Ribs excellent! Collard greens and potato salad were so-so (too heavy on the mustard). The service is BAD! Really not smart young boys working the counter. Slow and not bright.

Service was great and easy! Ordered the brisket which was moist,tender and flavorful. Had a good smoke ring. Got potato salad which had a lot of flavor but too much mustard for me. Ranch beans were good but could have been cooked longer. They were missing that silky bean texture. Most barbecue places don't have pickles and onions which I miss. But they luckily did which made me happy. Great location and love the atmosphere!

Holy smack, this place hits so hard. Food - if could give it more than five stars the brisket alone makes this a 10. Every time I come here I get a pound of brisket and the smoky flavor and juiciness hits harder than any other barbecue place I've been to in Bay Area. Service - the staff are always very friendly and happy to help when I've went. Ambiance - it is in a food court sort of thing but it's not janky like a mall food court. It's much more, for lack of a better word, " fancier" than that. Overall if you come here you HAVE to get a beef brisket, you'll not regret it

The fatty briskets were fine, texture was nice, very soft and juicy, but it didn't have much flavor. The pork ribs were quite dry and also not flavorful. The bbq sauce we tried were heavy on vinegar, which didn't feel right on smoked bbq.

Looking for a BBQ place not too far from Cal, this place fits the bill. Reading the reviews the night before had me worried as it seems they don't always open... Got there on Sunday around 12:30pm and saw a small line. Yay!! Since this is our first time to the Public Market, we walked around the entire place to see all of our options before decide on our final vote. Hubby and older son want BBQ. My little guy got Super Duper burger and I got Indian food. I am not crazy for meat, but I do love a bite or two of great brisket. I am floored with this briskets. Very tender, juicy, and flavorful. I will absolutely come back again for this brisket if I am in the neighborhood!!

Listen all I want to share with you all is that St. Patrick's day I had a dream of a brisket sandwich. Just a tender nice soft roll with these guys brisket. We hung out at the public market bar that day. Our friend went over to grab a little something, well she came back with my dream sandwich. I couldn't believe it. So I had to, of course I walked over and bought one with a small Mac and cheese. To die for, incredible flavor and tasty. I'm hoping they keep it on the menu. I'd buy it every time I went. Thank you. Don't order til after 3pm for fresh Brisket and Ribs.... Bcuz all afternoon stuff is from the night before just reheated. Heard it through the G vine.

I order my food on Tuesday 8/9/22 at noon. I usually only order 2-3 ribs and in the past have been very good. However today I order extra, a little over 1/2 pound of ribs and was looking forward to a great meal. However the ribs were dry. Maybe leftover from the previous day‍. One rib was just a bone, I was very disappointed!! I ended up throwing the ribs away because they were inedible :/

I stopped by this place yesterday and got a rack of ribs. I wasn't much of a fan of them though nor the Mac and cheese but I am open to trying other options on their menu.

Being from Houston, the tenderness of the marbled brisket is as good any I've had back in Texas! Mustard and mild sauces were top notch. Potato salad was a little heavy on the mustard. Nonetheless, would definitely come back to this place for a taste of home.

I've been slowly attempting to try every place in the Emeryville Public Market and I was super excited to try Pig in a Pickle after craving some barbecue. We tried 1/2 lb of pulled pork and 1/2 lb of brisket (both lean and fatty). The fatty brisket was my favorite by far because it was so juicy and tender! The lean brisket definitely felt more dry, but was still good with the sauces. I also liked the pulled pork, but it was also a bit dry. Another highlight was the sauces that they offer. You can ask for as many as you want, so we tried the Eastern Carolina (vinegary), Alabama White Sauce (vinegary), and Spicy (sweet), which were all great. We also got a side of collard greens, which had a nice flavor. I've ordered these from other places and they came out very bitter, but these were enjoyable to eat and paired well with the meats. This has probably been one of my favorite places in the market and I would come back to try more!

Best Brisket in the East Bay. I order ever year for the holidays. A great addition to my Thanksgiving feast...*chefs kiss*

This is one of those places that has a cute name and (to me an image) but doesn't quite live up to the hype! We've gone there twice, not because we wanted to, but because they close quite early. I also saw that they run out of a lot of foods. I don't know where they do their BBQ but I doubt that it is there. My husband ordered some ribs and the guy magically had them on the table. He didn't go to an over, open a warmer, they just appeared at his side. OK? That was weird. The meat was put in a brown box and was given to someone else who got the side dish for my husband. They put the BBQ sauce in a plastic cup with a lid and that was the best part. The meat was cold and tender, but when was it cooked? Where? By who?s Now, I liked it that the side came in a separate container. But I was expecting some fermented veggies or some saurkraut, but no. There's no real pickle here and that's the problem. But, my game plan from now on is to buy the sauce and put it on my own meat. It was sweet and spicy and deserved some meat that deserved to be slathered in it. This place didn't deliver on that for me.

Tried out Pig In a Pickle at the Public Market, Emeryville. I got a 1/2lb of brisket and a small cup of potato salad. Guy asked me what I wanted fatty or lean. I said half & half. It's about 3 slices of meat, looked kinda small. Pretty taste. 0.49lb of brisket was $13.72. I got the mild sauce and the spicy sauce too. Potato salad was a chunky kind, tasted pretty good, but I love all potato salad. Small cup $3.50 Hubby charged it $18.81. We ate indoor on the tables nearby.

The food is very good, but the staff there treat you like they are doing you a big favor, just to be there.

I have heard so much about this place. I tried it once before and it was very good. Yesterday I ordered half a pound baby back ribs looking forward to a great taste experience. What a disappointment. After arriving home and I opened my carton I had a half pound of burnt, dry, crunchy, inedible meat including a bone that was bare. I know you all can do better than that. And I am sure your staff should know when the ribs are black and crunchy they shouldn't be sold to a customer. What a waste of my money!!!

10/10 highly recommend. It is located inside the Public Market. We ordered brisket, it's tender and not dry. Pulled pork is full of flavor and doesn't feel fatty. The sides are sooOooo good. Ofc the bbq sauces are good. Tbh the meats are full of flavor you don't even need the sauce. But wait. Let's talk about the vinegar. This is very first bbq spot I've been to that serves vinegar. Game changer imo. Anyways lovely service and great food.

Nick was awesome. Coming into here the only question that ran through my mind was it going to be as good as the one that's in marine county. The period I'm happy to say that they had everything that I would expect to have there here locally. Beautiful smoke ring on the meat's wonderful flavors. It was a nice experience coming in here and finding out that it was so close so that I can get my barbecue. I've been disappointed by other places lately so this was a special visit. The people that worked there were very nice and inviting and that was nice to see as well because as a customer I like to feel like they want me there and not just about the money. And I was given some inside tips on the preparation and decide products which I found very helpful knowing that they take such care in making such a fine product.

Service was great. Super sweet gentlemen I dealt with at my visit. Already had ordered my lunch from the Korean bbq , but , it smelled so good ,and, I haven't had decent bbq in a while. I just ordered the link, collard greens, and an Arnold Palmer. EVERYTHING WAS GREAT! The link was spicy but not "blow your head off" (they have sauces for that) the greens were tender and seasoned well. I ordered the mustard sauce and the sweet bbq sauce. Arnold Palmer was perfect, you could taste the love in it ,as well all the food. I wanted to try their Banana Pudding, but, I was already being greedy and PHAT. Vegan who. I love this place. Shh don't tell.

2:25 pm refused to serve because they were going on break. Sign says breaktime between 3:00-3:30 pm. Return 3:35 refused to serve reason still on break ! Wow they probably dont need my $90!!!

Stopped by for lunch. Ordered the Brisket, Ribs and Hotlink with corn bread and Mac & Cheese. The hotlink was OK the outer part was a little rough, ribs soft could be a little more moist, brisket yummy just a little salty. The corn bread usually taste the same everywhere I go plain and boring. Since it's a public market seating depending on the time you go. The was were great. Bill came out to like $40. It could be better. I feel really sleepy now after eating. Normally I don't feel that why. I wish they had rice that would make it better for me..

I was really excited about trying out some west coast Q, and I have to say Pig in a Pickle didn't disappoint when it came to the meats--I had the brisket, the house made sausage, and the brisket chili. The brisket was tender, held plenty of smoke, and wasn't overpowered by the sauce. The sausage wasn't what I was expecting (I was thinking it was going to be what we call a red hot in the south) but it was really a complex and interesting creation...different with a lot of subtlety in the spices...I ate it undressed and enjoyed it immensely. I was thinking the chili was going to be chili Colorado...it wasn't. It was weird. Good, but weird. They serve it with chopped onions and cheese, and after I put that on it and added some of the beans I ordered as a side, it was pretty tasty. Props to the guys on the line--they were helpful to all the people in line, answering everybody's questions knowledgeably and happily--best of all, they asked how fatty you wanted your cuts! Elite bbq service! This restaurant is in a mall of other restaurants! I haven't seen anything like it since I was a kid in the 70's but it was really nice--lots of people, all enjoying themselves--kind of like an upscale mall food court. The only thing holding them back from 5 stars are the sides. The beans were not special, the Mac and cheese was runny...and I ain't paying 6 bucks for 4 oz of collard greens to find out if they're any good or not Highly Recommended.

Still my favorite brisket in the East Bay. My bff and I pit Horn against Pig in a Pickle. I ordered a pound of brisket and it was sliced to perfection. It's hard to tell where the fat ends and the meat begins. It's so succulent and juicy. This is what I love and my liver hates. My husband looked into the box after we ate and noticed the layer of cooled fat and made a face--apparently we have different preferences now. Last time we ate here, he loved how juicy it was. Because we had a side by side comparison with Horn, I wished this brisket had a little more spicy, but we had the spicy bbq sauce which was so delicious and added moisture to the other brisket. Both restaurants had a good smoke ring and beautiful crusts. The greens were so good. I could drink the broth and be so happy with its richness and pungency. I sopped it all up with homemade sourdough and jasmine white rice!
