Pigtail - Review - River North - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Pigtail is a pig-themed cocktail bar underneath Jaleo in River North. And if you somehow didn’t get the theme after seeing the big glowing sign that says “Pig and Cocktail” at the back wall, there’s no shortage of reminders. Sleek booths have funny portraits of pigs in powdered wigs overlooking them, small winged pig figurines decorate the walls, and the most prominent ingredient on the menu is pork. But while the theme is consistent, the food isn’t. Croquettes topped with thin slivers of iberico ham are fantastic, but an iberico smashburger topped with cheese espuma ends up tasting too rich and salty. The drinks are actually quite good—as long as you order straightforward ones like the bourbon-based Black Hole Sun and avoid the experimental ones, like an imbalanced and confusing boozy consome cocktail with pork bone broth, egg foam, and amontillado." - John Ringor

My friend and I came here for happy hour and we love the place. The vibe is adorable with pigs decor is everywhere and pink is their main color. For drinks we had the old fashion and the gopalito, both are delicious. For food i tried the pork belly slider and it has the perfect balance of crispy and soft, rich pork flavor offset by the pickle. I’d definitely come back to try more of their menu.

I might adjust my rating on a later visit. Everything was tasty, and the ambiance/decor was immaculate, but the prices were a bit high for what it was in my opinion. We can for happy hour ($12 cocktails down from $18), and the drinks were a bit small. Still very good! And the theatrics was something you don’t see everywhere. The small bites were exactly that… small. When that little eggplant cone came out 😭 for $5 I was not expecting something so small. What I really enjoyed was the theming. There are pigs literally everywhere, even the bill comes out in this little piggy banks and each has a name. I think this place would be nice to have a drink, maybe a bite, then shift to another location. I’ll be back!!! For drinks we had the anvil sour and the gopalito. Both very good. I was not wowed, but I’d order them again. 10/10. We also had the molletr frito con pancetta and it was reallllyyyy good. $9 is steep for what was essentially a slider, but the flavor was 10/10 and I would definitely eat it again. The croqueta duo was also very good. 9/10. We interacted with Emmanuel and Rogelio. So sweet. PAY THEM MORE!!!

Google
Such a fun and unique place. The ambiance is really nice and it's just a chill experience. The staff is helpful and very friendly. The menu has some great items, from drinks to bites. I ended up getting a spirit-free drink (La Placita) and it was - hands down - one of the best drinks I've ever had. I highly recommend making reservations ahead of time as the place doesn't have a lot of seating, but I absolutely recommend this place and I'm already looking forward to going back.

Stopped by for an after work drink and snack, great experience Staff was super knowledgeable and welcoming. Cocktails and food were great. Will definitely be back.

Google
What a cool and creative drink menu and the waitstaff are like personal bartenders who know the drinks and come to the table to do the personal drink preps and tell you about the drinks. Fun and cool! They were very attentive and knowledgeable. A must do experience in Chicago.

Google
The receptionist and Barman was excellent, the food was good, the ablutions was clean and presentable. Loved atmosphere as well. Only down was because they accommodated last minute they moved tables while we ate (we were late) but they should have asked us to move before arranging tables. Other than that it's a great place for any occasion! Niven

Google
Me and my wife came here last minute and wow what a great find! It’s in the basement of Jaleo and has great speakeasy vibes. The bartender was great and the drinks were top notch!! Get the Reverse Irish Cara Jillo and don’t even think about it.

Google
It was a great experience. I was with my younger sister and cousin 💛. We loved our food choices. I would have enjoyed an Irish beer, though it was a bit early for me (5pm) 🫠. I had the fish and chips with coleslaw; the tartar sauce was so delicious and unique...✨my sister had the butter chicken 🍲 and my cousin had the chicken pot pie 🥧 next time I'll have the Irish beer 🍺 and maybe Shepards pie ⭐🎶. Our server was Ernesto, who did a wonderful job!

Yelp
The vibes are so awesome at Pigtail! The decor is fun and upbeat. I loved the staff as well they were all very attentive and kind. They also all spoke very articulately of the flavors and where José Andreas conceived these ideas. The food was great I loved the cocktail especially the appetizers are always a hit. I feel like I'm always surprised by the salads at all of his locations!

Yelp
I wanted to take my birthday girl for a birthday drink and this was a place that intrigued me! We actually met the first time on the ground floor where jaleo resides. The Spanish tapas theme was delicious when we tried it. Pigtail lounge is in the basement of the same establishment and featured a infused cocktail list with pig inspired bites. The birthday girl ordered a very unique cocktail in which the drink itself is warm and the foam on top is cold. Being a Negroni lover and seeing the cute pig logo next to the drink name I opted for a clear Negroni which hit the spot. Our server was so knowledgeable and professional . He even brought a surprise flan with a candle lit for my friends birthday. What's even more awesome is that it's a new spot on the in kind app!

Yelp
Service was 10/10. They knew we were celebrating something and they served us complimentary bubbly We ordered some apps: pig ears and these stuffed pork cheese rolls but they ran out of pork so subbed with chicken which still was yummy. I don't remember what my drink was called but I do remember it was infused with iberico fat which was very interesting. It had a savory top note but still managed to be refreshing. I feel like I need to try it one more time to see if I'm completely sold or not. The one thing I didn't like was the setting. It felt a lil bit sticky

Yelp
A very cool 'speakeasy' in Chicago. Located on the bottom floor under Jaleo, you arrive through the front and get walked downstairs into Pigtail. Dimly lit and a lot of art referencing pigs. Very fun to see it all. Made reservations ahead of time and sat at a larger table for our party of 4. I think sitting at the bar will be a better experience. The staff is so well versed in their cocktail menu and their presentation definitely feels like artisinal experience. Pigtail serves both food and drinks but the main event in my opinion is the drinks. The unique cocktails prepared by our server was so fun to watch. My favorites were the Melon Cloud which was a fruity sweet drink with a dry ice cloud that is popped, and the REVERSE IRISH CARA JILLO. If you like espresso martinis, then you must try the reverse irish cara jillo. It is topped with a liquid nitrogen vallina whip cream that perfectly balances the coffee bitters. If you're more of a more woody flavor person, try the shadow chaser, they bring out a board of wood that they burn and smoke the cup before pouring in the drink.

Yelp
Such a nice speakeasy tucked underneath Jaleo. The ambience is all about pigs, as the name suggests. They offer all menu items from Jaleo. We ordered the patatas bravas and they were really good. The cocktails and their theatrics were a huge win for me. We ordered the Vacuum gin and tonic, reverse irish Cara jillo and old fashioned. The reverse Irish Cara jillo cocktail and the Gin and tonic cocktails are made at the table. For the Irish cocktail, they smoke some wood at the table, let the glass simmer in some smoke and then add the cocktail. The smoky flavor was soooo good. The vacuum gin and tonic was very interesting. It comes with two shots. They then do an alchemical take on reverse brewing the cocktail using vacuum. The result is a stunning aromatic cocktail that is perfect for summer or winter. Loved my experience here.

Yelp
Amazing! First off Mike the host was super sweet, Thank you for the great welcoming when you first enter seeing and talking with Mike the host was great! As he brought us down to the cute speakeasy Pigtail!! Loved loved! The bartenders super friendly super cool right off top made great suggestions since it was my wife and I first time there and in Chicago! I would have to say hands down the best expresso martini I have ever had I will definitely be back for another one! Super cute place love how the lighting is and got to meet some great people. We can't wait to experience it again. Drinks are amazing!

Yelp
Pigtail was simply the best night I've had in Chicago since I moved here three years ago. I came with a friend for my birthday, and there were multiple moments when a single year formed dye to how good everything was. First off: I recommend sitting at the bar vs. a table. Watching the staff make the cocktails is part of the experience. They love answering questions and making suggestions. Second: Listen to their suggestions. They are invested in you enjoying yourself, so get their input on what to order. Third: That being said - you can't go wrong. Every drink and bite we had was phenomenal. I strongly recommend the Liquid Olives, the Melon Cloud cocktail, the Andres & Cooper cocktail, and the croquetas. I had the best birthday, and this place deserves to be overflowing with guests!

Yelp
Last night I had the best cocktail I've ever had in my life (over 50). Emmanuel put up with myself and 2 co- workers who dropped in for a drink that turned into 2-3. The plantain scotch highball was spectacular. Truly for my tastes, hit on all cylinders. The Summer Rob Roy and the frozen slushy coffee amazingness were also fantastic. He knows what he's doing and I highly recommend. Truly a special place for cocktails.

Yelp
My friend suggested this spot as a great spot for dates and it's actually perfect for a more intimate (non first date) date or even if you want to catch up with a friend. Super creative cocktail menu and you can also order some small bites too! I really enjoyed sitting at the bar as it was really cool getting to see the bartenders make different drinks and the drinks we got were good. They gave us a sample of the reverse Irish Carajillo which was honestly so good and if I hadn't already ordered a second drink, I would have gotten one of those. Tasted like a frozen espresso martini!! I forgot what my first drink was.. but it was good. The second drink we got was some special / some "clarified milk punch" drink that was not on the menu. They gave us a little taste and it was SO good that we immediatley decided to order it. Will be back, just make sure to get the right drink if you come!

Yelp
Really unique and delicious menu! Definitely helpful to come with a group to order and try multiple smaller bites. The atmosphere was swanky and luxurious! A must try experience!

Yelp
I love craft cocktail bars, and this one is super unique. When we went, my boyfriend and I were the only people there at first, which created such a personalized experience. The two bartenders working were friendly and knowledgeable, and we ended up staying way longer than we intended! While the food was delicious, it definitely wasn't the best value and I'd probably skip it next time in favor of more drinks.

Yelp
Such an excellent cocktail bar that is just below Jaleo's! After having dinner at Jaleo's, the manager invited us down to their cocktail bar. What a awesome place for the senses! Creative cocktail menu with inspirational touches and ingredients from Spain, South America, Japan and other countries. Manager is so passionate and knowledgeable about all of the cocktails, ingredients and preparations- he is the best! A very hospitable cocktail bar, everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable about all of the cocktails. They do serve plates from Jaleo's and desserts, which we had (incredible). Ambiance and decor is so awesomely decorated with flying pigs, pig side tables, pig portraits; it just sets the theme. Excellent experience and execution, We will be back!

Yelp
Sorry Jose, all your spots seem just a bit too overhyped. Missing the substance to come back to. We just had cocktails here and it is really meant to be a stop before or after dinner. You can accompany the cocktails with small bites which are "pig" or pork focused. Particularly the famed iberico from Spain. Located underneath Jose Andres casual tapas place Jaleo, it pairs well. Look it's fun to get the smoking dry ice cocktails don't get me wrong. However, none of them really stick out. You want a cocktail to be something you can't wait to sip rather than struggle to get down. 3 stars for a fun new thing to try. Not worth a repeat unless there's no better spot to go.

Yelp
Love this speakeasy SO much! Never a wait, even on the weekends for a table or seat at the bar. All the cocktails are so creative and the service is superb! Definitely stop by if you're in river north wondering where to go!

Yelp
I'll admit -- we wound up at Pigtail on accident. About 8 pm on a Thursday night, we wandered into José Andrés Jaleo, a casual Spanish restaurant in River North. Fatefully, the wait for a table was long, and we were offered seats at the Ibérico-focused mixology mecca nestled downstairs. Though my husband and I don't drink, we were enticed by the promise of a bounty of Spain's most special ham. To our surprise we were greeted with two (yes, two!) spectacular nonalcoholic options and a bevy of Ibérico delights. We enjoyed watching the mixology marvels happening around us (liquid nitrogen, fire, the like), all housed in a small, quiet space where the food was of the same caliber as Andrés much more bustling counterpart Bar Mar on the other side of the river. Pigtail delivers serious food and drink without ever making the mistake of taking itself too seriously.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this place and I'm glad I did! I do wish I had taken more photos, but I was so involved in the experience that I completely didn't think about taking more. I would say what makes this place so unique is the customer service as well as how fresh and "clean" the drinks are. To start, our waiter as well as the bartenders and I believe maybe the manager, were all so kind and accommodating. I felt like I was talking with my friends, not someone in a sales role. Every question my friends and I had, was answered with professionalism, followed by knowledge. One thing I LOVE is that they asked if anyone in our group had allergies and if you know me, you know I'm basically allergic to air lol. So that was nice. The vibes were good, everyone was really friendly and fun and it was a quiet and intimate space where you could really just relax and enjoy a night out with friends, or even solo if you wish. Drinks I tried: Old Fashioned - Cleanest old fashioned I've ever tried! Melon Cloud - Very unique! They came around with a bottle of this aroma therapy cloud smoke which was AWESOME. I loved that. Overall, great vibes, good drinks and a nice intimate place. I'd definitely come back, maybe even solo one day. I also want to try their food. We had eaten earlier so we didn't try anything but next time, I'll definitely try the food with a new cocktail.

Yelp
This is such a fun place for cocktails. The bar is hidden downstairs below the main restaurant Jaleo. We got a variety of cocktails The Modifier, The Melon Cloud and Squaring the Circle. I recommend the Melon Cloud because the bartender comes to the table with the drink and a beaker filled with smoking tea which he moves around each guest for an aromatherapy like experience. The Modifier has the same aromatherapy experience too but with a chocolate smell. Overall really fun after work vibes with friends or coworkers.
google avatar

Alma M.

Yelp
Definitely one of the best cocktails I had in Chicago that I can definitely not get at home. The melon cloud is a must. Thr smell while you take your first drink is awesome.

Yelp
It's expensive. But totally worth doing it once. Great service and nice cocktail options. Speakeasy vibe is very fun.

Yelp
WHAT an experience I had at Pigtail the other night- it was definitely a night to remember! I started off seated at the bar and ordered a Melon Cloud. It was pricey but was so delicious and fun to see the way the bartenders made it. Our bartender that a friend knew was Emmanuel and he treated us so kindly with samples of different cocktails. Everything was delicious and the croquetas and flan as snacks were also great. I'd definitely return!
google avatar

Yelp
Came by on Friday night and boy were they packed. They were able to get my friend and I table downstairs. I went with the Reverse Irish Cara Jillo, Martinez, shot of Fernet Branca and a Vieux Carre. All my drinks were well made and one came with a nice presentation with aromatics reminded me of something you might expect to see at the Aviary. Wasn't terribly hungry because I had some nachos earlier in the night. Got some wings and another dish that was savory with great cheese.

Yelp
Pigtail Chicago offers an exceptional tapas and cocktail experience with meticulously crafted small plates that showcase bold flavors and textures. Each dish presents inventive flavor combinations that showcase the chef's creativity and passion for Spanish cuisine. The expertly curated cocktail menu complements the tapas perfectly, offering unique twists on classic recipes. The atmosphere is vibrant and energetic, making Pigtail an ideal destination to share plates and create lasting memories with friends and loved ones.

Yelp
what an amazing place for date night or just a fun hangout! Had the must haves and what they are known best for: melon cloud drink (lots of smoke!), shadow chaser (cedar smoke) and reverse irish (I needed something sweet). Croquetas were very creamy and the pork skewers were delicious as were the steamed pork buns. Our server was so patient and not pushy at all. He cared that we had a good time and tailored his recommendations to what's best for each table. Come have a great time and leave very happy!

Cathy C.

Yelp
Maylyn and Chef John were amazing and gave such a personable experience above the normal! The craft cocktails were unique - An entertaining experience and a wonderful beverage!!

Brooke W.

Yelp
My partner and I visited recently and we were very impressed with their cocktails and food. All the food we tried was SO good. The cocktails are innovative and they even have some cocktails with special accompaniments that they make in front of you! The reason I removed a star was because the service left something to be desired. We had to flag down someone each time we wanted to order more drinks or place our food order. I think we ordered from a different person each time, but I appreciated that whoever we stopped was more than happy to help.
google avatar

Carol C.

Yelp
Delicious tapas and super fun cocktails! Service was amazing! Would definitely come back when I'm in town!

Yelp
Oh my goodness, this place is amazing! All of the food and drinks were beautiful and delicious. For food, I had the liquid olive, Iberico tartare, Jose taco, croqueta, pig ears, the Iberico, and shumai. All we're very good, but the standout for me was the pig ears. So good and a healthy portion for sharing. I was with a large group, and we tried a lot of drinks. The Apollo is delicious. I love st. Germain, and this is a great refreshing cocktail. The vaccine gin and tonic comes with a great show. The modifier had a good show, too! These were also very good. The inverted dirty martini was a great molecular gastronomic twist on a martini with the blue cheese olive! The melon cloud was also very delicious. But my favorite thing on the the menu is the COMSOME COCKTAIL. This was one of the best things I have ever tasted in my entire life. I had dreams about this cocktail. I wish they would bottle this consome up and sell it. I wish I could order a lunch bowl of this just for myself! If I could have one of these before bed every night, I would be so happy! Pigtail, can I have the recipe? Can I buy a large batch? This has ruined consome for me, because it's never as good as the one in the consome cocktail!!! If you get one thing, get this. I rarely go back to the same place twice in Chicago, since there are so many new restaurants and cocktail bars popping up, but this one is worth going back to!
google avatar

Sean Y.

Yelp
If you are on the border, just go!!! It's so good. The cocktails are unique, exciting, and fun. Bartenders and serves extremely knowledgeable and attentive. Really takes on the Aviary / the Office for top cocktail bar in Chicago in my opinion. Greatest addition to Chicago bar scene in years. The interior is a bit unexciting, but that is my only small complaint. It is also quite expensive.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Such a fun experience! First of all, I love pigs; which may seem contradictory because I also like to eat them, so we'll just slide past that, and the color pink. And they chose the most perfect shade of pink here. It's not over the top in your face or pepto pink. It's almost a calming blush pink. Perfect. so right off the bat they are killing it with the decor, attention to detail, and ambiance - it's just here is fantastic! The curly pigtail is integrated into almost everything. I even noticed it on our servers suspenders and the have pigs flying on the wall. So freaking cute. The trays our food was served on were pigs and so was the little piggy bank the check came delivered in. We came to just scope out the experience but now I'm definitely down for the tasting menu. This time I kept it light and tried the trio of croquettes and to drink I tried the reverse Irish carajillo (my absolute fav. Almost like a frozen espresso martini and it's topped with a warm vanilla tres leches espuma - it was a bit small. I could have easily had 2 of these and was super excited when our server came back and topped off my drink 2x with the tres leches espuma.) I also tried a sip of my fiends melon cloud, very light and refreshing and the dry ice scented smoke that it's served with smells incredible. I would love that as some kind of air freshener. I also had an Apollo #3 which made me feel like I should be sitting on a beach somewhere exotic under an umbrella. Very refreshing and I can see how you could drink a gallon of it with ease. Definitely coming back soon to try more - especially the tasting menu!
google avatar

Leslie M.

Yelp
If you love high end cocktails and eating with your hands pigtail is your place! The evening started with a welcome cocktail, and I was entertained watching the bartenders craft each cocktail! Even better, this concept is to eat all the food with your hands! Omg, the desert is messy but to die for!
google avatar

Cynthia H.

Yelp
It is easy to see that Pigtail is still in its early days. It's been open for less than six months at the time of this review. On my first visit, one of the things I found quite odd was I asked our waiter for his favorite menu items but instead of describing his own experience of the food or sharing feedback he's received from the customers, he kept pointing me back to the menu and at times he would read the food description directly from the menu. Maybe he was a new waiter, but it put a damper on the experience of not being "sold" on their menu. I was looking for suggestions but he kept pointing me back to the menu and asked what I liked. However, the experience at the bar was just the opposite. When the bartenders spoke it seemed the knowledge overflowed and they "sold" me on the cocktails so I felt I was getting my money's worth for a cocktail that cost $35. It reminded me of the interaction you experience at a wine tasting when the pourer will discuss the history of the grapes, vineyards, wine notes, and process. At Pigtail, of course, the discussion revolved around how each ingredient enhanced and brought out the best of the cocktail. If I could give two ratings, I would give the bar five stars and three for food service; so I was generous and gave Pigtail four stars. Pigtail is located downstairs from the restaurant Jaleo. To enter you have to go through the host desk and then wait to be escorted downstairs. While Pigtail is small and quaint, even at seated capacity the noise level remained low so I could still enjoy the conversation with my friend. I would go back to Pigtail for the cocktails alone and likely skip the food menu.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place enough, my wife and I were extremely pleased with our experience. The tapas menu is a whole-hearted celebration of Iberian pork, the cocktail menu was an interesting romp of creatively prepared and presented creations. This is on our must hit list the next time we're in town.
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
Ok, so Chicago is an amazing craft cocktail town. It's filled with a lot of creative bartenders. But honestly, this place is one of the most outside of the box cocktail experiences I've ever had. They are half chemists, half bartenders, and half amazing servers. I know this adds up to 1.5 people but just stay with me on this. The taste of each drink lived up to its unique presentation. I can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Ahiliya N.

Yelp
Amazing speakeasy with prices that you would expect. We came here for pre-birthday dinner drinks, and usually my friends order pretty much the same drinks every time we go out, but we thought that we should take advantage of the specialty cocktails that Pigtail had to offer. Most of us started with their version of the espresso martini, which an icey coffee topped with a warm dulce de leche creme. It was a great contrast in texture and temperature and tasted wonderful. We also got the melon cloud, which was a tequila drink that was topped with liquid nitrogen to give it a cloud-like appearance. For snacking, we ordered the chips and cheese, which were potato chips with a goat cheese spread on the bottom (tasty but could have made at home for a fraction of the price). Overall, definitely come here to check out the cocktails - they're super cool!

Yelp
Was added to the wait list. Could see empty tables but no explanation on why we needed to wait. Went to a neighborhood bar, had a couple of drinks and a lovely time. Just got notified our table was ready well after the time promised.

Yelp
Was here about 8 months ago and had what was one if my top 3 burgers ever. Couldn't stop thinking a out it and telling everyone how awesome it was. Stopped back to relive the experience last night. Well they changed their burger and it is a disaster now. It takes a picture well, but after picking it up and taking one bite it completely turned into a pile of ingredients as it all fell apart. Fries they add 5 bucks for are forgettable at best...lacking in seasoning and served in what tastes like jarred spaghetti sauce, ick. After tax and tip well over 40 bucks for something mcdonalds executes better. Ended up eating the most expensive burger in my life with a fork in a smashed up pile of burger ingredients. Patty was not smashed, had no sear on it. . Master class on taking something that was perfect and turning it into not perfect. Also wanted the consome cocktail which is still on the website and on the menu, but server said they don't offer it because it's warm (65 degrees) outside. Hundreds if other restraints in walking distance to try before I go back here. The drink was good but only half full with a huge ice cube. Service saved a few stars here, everyone was great

Yelp
Such a fun cute unexpected experience!! We were looking for drinks in the area and just stumbled upon Pigtail and were lucky enough to get a table! The interior is so cute and I love how they carry the pig theme subtly throughout. The service was incredible and so helpful! Our bartender sold me on the Around the World in 80 Days. I'm a huge mezcal fan and absolutely LOVED their mezcal which actually included pork! The cocktail was amazing - probably one of the best I've had with mezcal. My friend got the cocktail with rosemary and cocoa influence. The smoke was an amazing experience and the drink was delicious! The drinks are definitely pricey but worth every penny! It feels like you are getting the highest quality ingredients, and it's an amazing experience!

Yelp
Refuse to give it a star. Thought it would be like bar mar where I always go, had my brothers 40th here and never been more humiliated in my life. I had to talk to the server, bartender, and manager just to get silverware. Don't waste your time, already know the place won't survive its THAT HORRENDOUS
google avatar

Minka M.

Yelp
We had a great time! The space is intimate and romantic, completely different than Jaleo. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. We ended up trying a variety of small bites, but my absolute favorite was the pork belly slider. The plates are small but the food is incredibly rich with flavor. I'd totally recommend this spot to a friend.

Yelp
We were excited to stumble upon this speakeasy! We were walking by and when we went in to ask for a table for cocktails the host asked if we wanted to sit in the restaurant or the speakeasy. Speakeasy was the obvious choice for us! Our server Paul was attentive and even offered us a complimentary welcome round of bubbles. The cocktail list is extensive! The glassware and atmosphere were lovely. The presentation of the Melon cloud was delightful! Our expectations for the cocktails were very high given the price point and that it's a speakeasy - so cocktails should be on point. We found the cocktails to be a little on the sweet side and the classic cocktails were a little off. I personally prefer a proper Aviation which will be light purple in color if creme de Violette is used, the version here was a light blue. We also found it unusual that they garnished a dirty martini with kalamata olives, and when we inquired about green olives we were told they didn't have them which was odd because the inverted Martini we ordered for our first round had a blue cheese stuffed green olive in it. Definitely a fun spot to pop into for a drink and conveniently located just a couple blocks from the Redline Grand stop.

Yelp
This place has some of the best cocktails I've ever had in Chicago. I even booked my second reservation while I was still at my first reservation...I cannot wait to go back. Especially with this restaurant only being a couple weeks old, I was VERY impressed. Pigtail is located in River North, in the lower level of Jaleo Chicago. You do have to walk through Jaelo to get to Pigtail, but that didn't bother me. It's a fantastic speakeasy that offers up very unique cocktails, including cocktails featuring ibérico pork. Our server was amazing, and very knowledgeable about the cocktails. I also loved the aesthetics and little touches of pigs throughout the lounge. There's paid street parking around, as well as parking garages. Definitely check this place out! Round 1: Floral Cloud: Fords Gin, lemon, maraschino, creme de violet with a hibiscus-rose orange blossom aromatic cloud Around the World in 80 Days: Del Maguey Ibérico, manzanilla, genever, Junmai sparkling sake The Modifier: Avuá Amburana cachaça, Montenegro, Licor 43, touch of sherry vinegar, chocolate bitters, with rosemary cocoa aromatic cloud Round 2: Nitro Frozen Pomada: Xoriguer Mahón gin, Kas limón, bergamot, frozen with LN2 Reverse Irish Carajillo: Torres 10 Brandy, aquavit, cold brew coffee, vanilla, tres leches espuma, frozen with LN2, warm espuma Apollo #3: Grey Goose La Poire vodka, blanc vermouth, St. Germain, lemon, ginger, club soda

Yelp
We came for a birthday and had so much fun. Our server Emmanuel was so informative and so kind. We had the shadow chaser cocktail and the reverse Irish Carajillo. All the cocktails are so creative. This is a new favorite. We will be back!

Yelp
Incredible. The closest thing I've come to an experience like reading The Night Circus. Creative food, creative drinks, beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommend, will go again.

Yelp
I made a reservation for this place and was very excited but unfortunately did not live up to expectations or what I hoped it would be once I experience it. A lot of that had to do with their Yelp presence not being up to date and when I asked about a drink and a food item that was shown they didn't know what either of them were. Service is okay here. They definitely do a few cool things with cocktails and have some cool experiential aspects to some of the drinks and glassware but I wasn't impressed by my drink. I did not like any of the gin offerings on the menu and wanted to see what the bartenders here could make so I asked for a well balanced gin drink with Mahon Gin and ended up getting a very bitter gin drink that got better as the crushed ice that the bartender had put in melted into it but wasn't great. They ask if I wanted still or sparkling and I said sparkling and then they gave me some special brand of seltzer that ended up being flat water and after try two more bottles ended up giving me fever tree Club soda which definitely wasn't flat. Apparently, they've been having issues with the brand coming in flat but you would think that they would notice pouring when there isn't a single bubble of carbonization in the glass. The bartender did comp my one drink which I appreciated for the hassle though. I also felt as thought I was treated as not important when I wanted to try only one croqueta to start after they didn't have the food item I wanted to try but after I wanted to order more was treated differently since I was spending more. I also asked about the Bao bun sandwich if it was an actual asian Bao bun and was reassured it was so I ordered it and if you know what a Bao bun is you know what is pictured is not. The place is cute inside but very small as it is hidden below the main restaurant and you have to check in at the restaurants hostess stand. The food was very good for the small bites I did have but probably won't be back again based on everything else.

Yelp
Fun and inventive cocktails as well as delicious bites! The stand out cocktails were the Negroni Cristal and the Consume Cocktail. The bartenders were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. My husband and I really loved this place and would definitely go here again.

Yelp
I loved everything about this place..maybe more than Jaleo (which was also good). But the finger food here is divine and the drinks are great too. Love the friendly staff and the ambiance.

Yelp
This spot has only been open for about a week so I did not expect everything to be perfect (hence the rounding up). One of things I did not expect to need improvement was the food, but I do think it does. The service, however, is impeccable. There is no separate entrance to get in, which is not a big deal per se, but you do have to wait upstairs with all of the people being sat in the main restaurant. It would help if we could just go check in downstairs. Also, there is nothing on the website that says an ID is required to enter, but it is. I know this is a bar but once you are of a certain age, you don't always carry an ID. One of my friends was not admitted in. This is fine if it is their policy but they should publish it on their website that entry without ID is prohibited. It was only about half full and I really enjoyed the ambiance. Everything felt like a speakeasy. The one thing I would recommend is having the music more consistent. Some times they were playing 20s music and then it would be followed up by a current rap song. It was just a bit disjointed. I personally liked the 20s vibe myself. Derrick was our server and was a pure delight. Next time I go, I will actually see if he is working and try to get into his section. He actually had tons of knowledge on the cocktails as well as history of some of the ingredients. When you are paying for an expensive cocktail, it is also about the experience and he definitely brought that. They start you off with an 'amuse bouche' cocktail which was basically sherry and soda. It was light and refreshing. They also offer you wet cloths throughout the meal since it is primarily finger food, which I really thought was a great idea. Ironically for us, we enjoyed the standard cocktails more than the pig ones. We tried the Consumme and Around the World. I didn't get a lot of pork from either but the Consumme had a little bit. They do have a separate wine list although cocktails are their main. The Gopalito and Shadow Chaser were actually much better for a second round. I would order that Gopalito every time I'm there. The food menu is not large as this is intended more for the ambiance but they do have many pigaliscious options for small plates. Keep in mind these are small plates and are not cheap because it's Iberico. A chef friend of mine once said Iberico is the Kobe beef of pigs and he is correct. So the price tag will reflect that. We started with the pig ears, which were the biggest letdown of the evening. Every other time I've had pig ears they were fried and crispy but these were not crispy. The interior was just mushy fat and a bit offputting. This must be a different cooking preparation than I've ever had but I was not a fan. The tostada was super tasty with the piquillo pepper sauce. The foie was a good foie but the issue was how it was served. It is a torchon on a homemade cracker with figs on the top, which tasted great. But they don't give you any silverware or sharing plates. There are two ways to serve this: either in one, small bite-sized piece (how I'd recommend) or large with a knife and fork. All that happened is the torchon was dense to cut, the cracker fell apart and the figs just slid off. My suggestion would be just to stamp these out as bite-sized portions because the foie was solid. The star was the Iberico in its natural form. Sure, you pay by the ounce but it is gold in you mouth. Even the little crackers that comes with it have a great flavor (which I was told is from the amount of olive oil used to make them). Overall execution needs work, at least on the food side but there are some solid flavors already going on.
