Pros: This place has the best, biggest empanadas i ever seen in America. The filing is nicely seasoned as your mom would, unlike some others, and the dough is perfect, not too thick so that you are only eating flour or too thin that it crumbles. We had a completa and an eggplant and both super yummy.
Portions are humongous and all came with FF.
I also had dulce de leche, arroz con leche, and natilla, each of these was perfection. They must have a cibao grandma cooking in the back, i have never seen REAL dulce de leche being sold anywhere, this was my golden find. Oh and don't forget the quipe, it was crumbly but the flavor was on point. And no matter what you order have a jugoavena along with it, just as we do in the island.
Cons: The meat in the sandwiches was shredded both times and mixed with a questionable sauce. My boyfriend really liked it, while for me it was meh and unexpected. If you are Dominican don't order The chimi thinking that's what it is, it isn't. Overall the bread was beautifully toasted and there was something there that made it taste like home, i think it was the mayo. I wish they would sans the weird sauce and just sautee the meat with flavorful things instead and serve that way.
I need to come back to get my dulce de leche and a patacón!
