West‑side favorite for pepper chicken, fried rice, and a convenient drive‑thru. Independently owned and appreciated by locals for straightforward comfort food done right.

I've been through the drive-through several times. I ordered general chicken the first time and did not care for it. I expected it to be sweet and spicy but it was just spicy, no sweetness. I do, however like the cashew chicken and the crab rangoon is excellent. Employees have always been friendly. A large cashew chicken and a 4 pc crab rangoon is about $19.00 and I can get 4 meals out of it.

Delightful little restaurant. Amazing ragoons and I thoroughly enjoy their sweet and sour. Always tidy and clean. Highly recommended for some good, decently priced Chinese food.

Google
After ordering in the drive through (only 1-2 people in line, after i got home i saw that one of my entrees was missing and that I live a half hour away. They insisted the policy is to only fix your order by bringing back all of the food and receipt. Check your bags before you leave. This place is a scam. Paid 12.99 for two entrees but only received one. Told them in the phone I would leave a bad review and I Won't be back obviously, but the food tasted good. Not going to waste an hour driving back to a restaurant to return food that will get cold from all of the traveling back and forth to a place that won't believe me or refund me. Too many other Chinese restaurants in town to go to. Also very small portions. If i hadn't ordered crab Rangoon for us we'd still be hungry. New China gives you so much more food. This place needs to shut down! Hopefully they improve but they suck for their policies especially when it's their fault.

Google
Ate here today and honestly I had a really good experience. The lady was very nice and I ordered the Sweet & Sour Daily Special. The food was very fresh and hot and some of the best I’ve had in town! I will always eat here over Triple Eights

Google
We were the only dine in customers on this day and time but there was a steady flow through the drive thru. They were also taking phone orders. She had chicken fried rice and I had the cashew chicken meal which included an egg roll and won ton. We both had small drinks. They don't have sweet tea. The food was ok, but nothing that would call us back. The place was very clean and well maintained with a courteous staff.

Google
The positives are that the food is pretty good and this is the cleanest Chinese place I've gone to. Both the lobby and restrooms were clean. However, the man behind the counter was rude. He couldn't be bothered to look up and mumbled when he spoke. When he brought us our food he just walked away with his head down. Not to mention we could hear the staff arguing in the back and for two orders it will cost 40 + dollars! I don't know if the drive is worth it no matter how good the food is.

Google
The food is a bit better than the average Chinese place in Springfield, but the last few times I've been through the drive-thru the guy you get your food from is a really poor choice to have deal with customers. He just glares at you and won't even say anything most of the time. When he does speak, it's in a very condescending tone. Like I said, the food's pretty decent but poor choice of personnel.

Google
Best general chicken in springfield hands down. spicy as it should be. Goodb quality chicken. Beef fried rice is incredible too, lots of beef. Very clean restaurant. Even has an open kitchen so you can see what's going on in the back.

Yelp
Throughout the last couple of years my husband and I have eaten at Pine Garden MANY times and the food and service is always amazing. I have found that in the Springfield area it is hard to find a place that does it all well, but this restaurant does. From the chicken to the fried rice and the crab Rangoon, it's never been bad or different, always consistent and good!

Yelp
I wanted a place with a drive thru. This location is directly off Sunshine about a block from the Kansas Expressway intersection Elfindale Plaza area. It was busy during the lunch hour. Thought I'd give it a try. I ordered General chicken special. ONLY reason for 4 stars is because the fried rice was so bland. No green peas, onions or carrots in it. Just rice and tiny bits of scrambled eggs. The rest of the meal was delicious. I agree with others the general chicken sauce wasn't so overly sweet. It had good robust flavor and spice. The egg roll and crab Rangoon and the general chicken were delicious! Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Would definitely return.

Yelp
My new Best Cashew Chicken in town! Thought I'd tried them all. High quality ingredients and presentation won me over.

Hodge W.

Yelp
The advertised price is high, but we were overcharged as well. Food average at best and far inferior to many places that are more reasonable.to complete the regret, the girl at the counter was rude.

Yelp
So I've tried most of Chinese places in the area and everything is pretty similar and nothing has really impressed me but I can't say any were bad. This is the first place I've been that stood out as being worse than the rest to me. I got the house fried rice, two egg rolls and hot and sour soup. The fried rice was gummy and bland. The egg rolls tasted like they were fried in rancid oil and refried. The hot and sour soup tasted like what hot and sour soup if it were made by Campbell's. It also was more pricy and less food compared to come other places I've been. Being that I got the food to go, you can take this with a grain of salt. But all the other places I got was to go as well.

Yelp
Disclaimer, I have never eaten Casher Chicken before. I tried this place because I was curious what all the hype about Cashew Chicken was about. While it did take 5 minutes in the drive threw my food came out piping hot which was nice. The egg roll tasted fresh and was delicious. The Cashew Chicken had good quality white meat. Now the downside, the friend rice was not what I am used to. I thought it was brown rice initially turns out it was fried rice. It tasted like something I could have made which doesn't inspire confidence with chinese takeout. The cashew chicken tasted fresh but tasted like fried chicken covered in brown gravy and green onions. Not at all what I was expecting. If that is what Cashew chicken is supposed to taste like then you'd like this place. Personally the food didn't taste like chinese food to me which I why I am giving three stars. Again this is my opinion based on my taste.

Yelp
BEST Singapore noodles in town!! Everything they do is awesome!! Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Stumbled across this gem! I was nervous trying a new place to eat it was priced right and the food was extremely fresh I will be back here
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
I tried this place when my girlfriend suggested it, and I'm hooked! Crispy white meat chicken in a fiery brown sauce, not sweet like most Gen. Chicken is in Springfield. The prices here are very reasonable and a large portion feeds me 4 times. I will say the rice is weak, and they should offer white, but I make my own white whileI'm waiting for delivery

Yelp
I've only been here once so far. I see a lot of very mixed reviews so I thought I'd start with that disclaimer in case we came on a good day. You never know. The dining room looks like it has been recently painted and it was very clean on a Saturday evening. For Chinese quick food in a former fast food joint, this place was less of a dive than I expected. Just stopped in for a quick dinner and liked it very much. My husband loved the option of eggplant tofu and even though the portion wasn't huge, he thought the entree was quite nicely done and fairly priced. We shared crab rangoon, an order of four for the price many competitors charge for six, but they were larger so it was a wash. Good flavor, and more on the sweet side than savory. My hot and sour soup was a nice-sized bowl and I was completely satisfied by it. But, I've gotta say it was odd. More like egg drop soup that someone added a few veggies and more spice to make it into hot and sour soup. Nothing like the hot and sour soup I've ordered at other Chinese restaurants which is much spicier, meatier, and made with darker broth...this really looked like egg drop soup, yellow color and tons of egg, but the flavor did have more of the hot and sour edge to it, assuring me that the order taker didn't misunderstand my preference. While the soup was good, it wasn't typical.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place out. After reading some decent reviews and seeing the building itself, it was enticing. Entering the building was a different story. The restaurant appears to be a former Popeyes Chicken. The decor is plain and uninviting. There is quite a bit of visible wear on the walls with paint chipping and falling in various place. Nothing character about it, just unkempt. Approaching the counter helped me overlook this as I was greeted with enthusiasm! Absolutely great service. The lady made me feel very comfortable and even helped me understand the menu. Unfortunately, receiving my order set me up for a deflating experience. For $5.99 I received sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, an egg roll, and a crab rangoon. It also came with a drink. Considering the typical large portions received for Chinese takeout, I was rather surprised at how small this portion was, although that is subjective. The meal itself was horrendous. The chicken was very dry and greasy and covered in what seemed to come from a cheap can of sugared syrup with pineapples thrown in and topped with a couple of those ridged carrots you find in a bag of frozen California mix. Not good. Sadly, the rice was so very dry as well. Must I speak of the egg roll? I suppose I must. Not the typical fat roll full of cabbage you might receive elsewhere. This poor skinny thing was so greasy I could not finish it. It looked over cooked. The inside was incredibly mushy as well. I could not decipher what it contained. It looked brown with orange bits throughout. The one saving grace would be the rangoon. Nothing special about it other than it being edible. I am disappointed at this experience. The outside seems inviting and the service is great. Unfortunately, for me, that is not enough to redeem the poor meal experience. Try at your own risk.

Yelp
Went there for the first time today and ordered the general chicken and a soft drink. Not only did they forget my drink and then ask me to pay for it again (thinking i was lying), but when i got home I discovered that they gave me cashew chicken instead of the general chicken that I ordered. Not the best first experience but at least the egg rolls and crab rangoon were good.

Sabrina B.

Yelp
I ordered a number 2 which is sweet and sour that's what I payed for they gave my cashew chicken and when ever I let them know about the mistake bc I am allergic to cashews they refused to give me a make up meal which I find very unprofessional and I dobt usually do these

Karin L.

Yelp
I haven't tasted my food yet but: 1. Sitting at the drive thru forever, and 2. Extra $1.08 for extra green onions! You've got to be kidding me. Won't be back. That is totally RIDICULOUS!!
google avatar

Derrick F.

Yelp
Not worth the $$. It's a lot more expensive than the other Chinese restaurants in town. I asked if I get a fortune cookie with my $10 meal and she said they charge for them....?? The food really isn't bad but I would rather go to canton or Chinese chef because you get wayyy more bang for your buck.

Hannah G.

Yelp
My favorite Chinese place in all of Springfield! Delicious flavors and high quality ingredients. My go to menu choices are the sweet and sour chick or the fried rice meals.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Great Generals Chicken. Everything was hot and fresh. Prices are good. They do charge an extra $0.75 for all white meat chicken. Seems about average for around Springfield. They advertise that they won first place for their Cashew Chicken for 2013. My daughters would agree.
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
I had high expectations for the cashew chicken since it was voted the best in Springfield in 2013. The portion size was ridiculously small for $6. EVERY other Chinese place in town gives you twice as much food, some places even give twice as much food for less than $6! The sauce was okay...ish for someone that's never had really good Springfield style cashew chicken. The rice was edible.... and that's being generous. The rice was ridiculously dark in color like they'd doused it all in soy sauce. It tasted as such too. The ONLY redeeming factor is that the white meat chicken was actually of good quality. It's hard to find Chinese places around here that have really great quality white meat chicken. Don't waste your money or time. It's 2015..... They really need to go back and vote again for best cashew chicken in Springfield. Because this CLEARLY is not it!

Della E.

Yelp
I ordered a junior cashew chicken, all white meat with extra onions and a bottle of water. The food was sub-par considering there is a cashew chicken joint on every corner so the options are plenty. Portion size was in line with what I expected but as other reviews have mentioned, the rice was abnormally dark brown. After tasting it, I agree with the other reviewers that it likely was doused in soy sauce. Mixing the rice with the cashew sauce made the dish too salty for my taste. In regards to price, the initial price was in line with what I would expect, however the all white meat charge is .25 higher than competitors and they charge me .50 for a cup of water. Remember I ordered a bottle of water? I assume it's all the same to them. Thanks but no thanks. Nothing amazing here, I'll keep driving next time.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
I had cashew chicken for the first time here today. It was very good! I was impressed by the freshness of every item in my meal. I also could see clearly back into the kitchen from the drive thru and it looked clean! I dont know about the other items on the menu, but this is my cashew chicken go to!
google avatar

Yelp
Cashew chicken is probably the best I've had. It's got to be the gravy lol. I LOVE their spring rolls - I could literally eat an entire meal of spring rolls.... and they have those sugar covered fried doughnut things (they call them biscuits) that are amazing - and really cheap. Every time I've had it, it has been brought home to me (in the cold weather, across town), and it's still been as hot and fresh as if I had eaten it in the restaurant. If you love cashew chicken, I'd definitely recommend trying this place at least once.
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
This is a great spot to pick up a to go order late at night (well, 10 pm). I really appreciate that I can get fresh food at 9:45 after a full day of working and studying on campus. It's a great stop on the way home. The food isn't crazy outstanding (they do have a Cashew Craze claim to best Cashew Chicken, though), but it's always fresh, tasty, and affordable. And it keeps me from having to cook, which that late at night is always a win.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
If the food was as good as the ladies faux smile it would have been heavenly. But instead the dank reminiscent odor of strung up skinned cat was the unedible reality. Dry cardboard made to emulate rice is not my idea of a well balanced side dish. So, if any is looking for their cat or maybe even their missing dog they're probably not at the humane society, check pine garden on sunshine st.

Brock B.

Yelp
After 20 minutes of trying to explain that I just want rice and vegetables, no meat, no eggs, I still got eggs in my meal and they up-charged me as if steamed cabbage is some delicacy. Generally I cook at home because it is so extremely hard to just get vegetables. I ordered the cheapest thing possible from this place and got charged more than anything else on the menu. But ignore this, I'm sure their less complicated orders are delicious.

Yelp
Pine Garden is hands down the best Chinese food in town.! Yes there are many, but at Pine Garden you know your food not only will be good but so will the service! We have found the service not to be so friendly in the Springfield market. The owners are usually present and everyone is friendly/- and your orders are always correct!!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
I really like this place every meal Ive have had there has been good. I go for lunch very often it's a lot better then that place right around the corner.
google avatar

Jeffrey D.

Yelp
Pine Garden has wonderful cashew chicken. For $5.99 you get a drink, a bunch of cashew chicken, rice, Crab Rangoon, and an egg roll. Or you can just get the chicken and rice for $3.99. It's fresh and delicious and a good value. The staff is friendly as well. They also have a drive-thru. Check it out!
google avatar

Lou R.

Yelp
i am basing this review on my first and only visit to Pine Garden. I had the hot and sour soup which was neither spicy nor tangy. It lacked a meaty quality as well that is found in most versions. A small amount of carrot and sliced bamboo shoot was also about the only filler. The portion was a 16 oz container for around 2.60 which is the same price I get hot and sour soup at a dozen other locations for double the amount of soup. The lemon chicken I ordered was chicken and a decent portion but had no taste or even hint of lemon. The sauce was very brown, thick and sweet and if I had to guess in a blind taste test I would have guessed mystery sauce. The order taker and gal in the drive through were very nice but as far as these two dishes go, I wouldn't try them again.
google avatar

Neil M.

Yelp
I saw that this place had won the Sertoma Cashew Craze, so I gave it a whirl. It was really not good at all. Everything was greasy to the point of being soggy. The fried rice almost just tasted like oil. I got spicy eggplant tofu. I didn't like the tofu too much, but that was because I like very firm tofu. That's not their fault. The spicy sauce was tasty, but it was exactly like anything you can get anywhere. In a town with seemingly more Asian joints than churches, any and all comers need to be on point. I say skip this place. There are better places with better food and much better prices in Springfield. Pacific Kitchen is my favorite.

Andrew M.

Yelp
Best Chinese in Springfield and any city I have lived in. I graduated culinary school and this is the first place that stays authentic to Chinese food and doesn't Americanize it with so much sugar it tastes like your going to go into a diabetic coma. You can tell the meat and the sauce was prepared the proper Chinese way where the sauce makes itself in the dish as the food is cooking with the spices. The people who put bad reviews on this place are stupid spoiled little brat Americans that know nothing about real cuisine, or Chinese food.
google avatar

Jim G.

Yelp
I love their Shrimp Fried Rice...my favorite in Springfield. Luckily they are close to work, so I can stop in for lunch from time to time.
google avatar

Shannon A.

Yelp
Pine Garden has become our go to cashew chicken place. I have had the cashew and general chicken. My wife and daughter have had the beef, chicken and shrimp lo mein. All have been fresh and hot. The servers kinda get in a hurry sometimes but we have always gotten home with everything we have ordered.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
Surprisingly good! Due to the location and the reputation of restaurants in this building, I think people may shy away from this restaurant... However, that would be a mistake! I've been there twice now. Both times through drive through service. The workers were very helpful with suggestions & navigating their menu. I had the black pepper chicken w/Lo Mien & it was probably the best Chinese I've had in Springfield! I highly recommend trying it out. Especially the all white meat black pepper chicken... Yum-O!
google avatar

Jonny C.

Yelp
If you're looking for the best cashew chicken in springfield look no further! Pine garden gives you a perfect amount of food to fill you up but not make you explode. The service is good, store is clean and it's in a great location. And it's not to pricy.
google avatar

Witchy M.

Yelp
Not impressed. Too expensive. Not a lot of food for your money and not good quality.
google avatar

Josh D.

Yelp
General Chicken is the best! It's actually borderline HOT! I think they're prices are pretty close to everyone else around. I'm a chubby dude and can't finish all of my portions. So I have to disagree with the "small portion" complaints!

Eethyn B.

Yelp
I had general chicken for the first time at this establishment. It was very good and seemed like it had just been freshly made. The dish had a good mixture of hot and sweet flavors which made for a well-rounded taste. The presentation of the dish was also pretty good for a fast food restaurant. The plates did not have too much or too little and I left full but didn't feel bloated after eating as you do at some other restaurants. The kitchen also looked well managed and clean. The service was also relatively fast. I came in around 4, so the restaurant wasn't too busy and got my food within around 15 munites. I plan making this establishment the new place I go to when I fell like having some chinese food.
google avatar

Jake B.

Yelp
Decent food, but the waitress would not stop complaining about how horrible her job was to the other lady behind the counter. She kept saying how she would hardly work because she didn't get paid enough and could "work for a call center making $20 an hr" using mighty colorful language expressing it. Not worth it at all, jus wanted to have a decent dinner with my gf.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
I love Pine Garden. Their General Chicken is great (pretty spicy) and the Black Pepper Chicken is yummy too. The hubby and I sometimes order 1 of each and split them. Service is friendly and fast; food is fresh and seems cooked to order. It is not near our house, but worth the drive over.
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
Canton Inn used to be my favorite, for the past 25 years, but they've recently changed their chicken or something and I just haven't been as happy with it. A couple months ago, a co-worker picked me up an order form Pine Garden and I now have a new favorite cashew chicken/general chicken restaurant! About once a month, our entire office orders lunch from there.
google avatar

Michele R.

Yelp
This place sucks, I just got home with my food and the lemon sauce is dark brown and smells like burnt onion. I can't even eat it. small portions big prices and bland. I will never eat here again!!! Took forever too!!!
google avatar

Cody H.

Yelp
I got the cashew chicken, it was overly priced and wasn't even good. I'm only giving it a 2 star because the container it came in was fancy. Really the amount of food I got was a snack. Fed 4 people and paid over 30 dollars. Not worth it!

C M.

Yelp
This place was okay. Clean, affordable, decent portions. Best for lunch. Get the egg roll and Rangoon add on for $1.69 more. No wifi, which seems to be the norm for Chinese restaurants in Spfd, not sure why that is. Try it soon though, the place doesn't seem to be making it based on the lack customers during the lunch rush.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
The best in town! The Singapore rice noodle dinner is my favorite! A delicious curry meal with shrimp, chicken, pepper, and onions. Simply the best ever! Fair prices and friendly staff.

Jason D.

Yelp
Yuck! I ordered black pepper chicken, all white meat. Just a shade under $7 and it didn't come close to filling me up. It was essentially sautéed chicken (I ordered it not breaded) with cashew sauce and a boatload of black pepper. I could have made far better at home. The "fried rice" was soggy and flavorless. I won't be back.

Tiffany R.

Yelp
Used to love the food but when they didn't put all our food in the bag and wanted us to drive 15 minutes back to them that was a problem bc my kids already started eating theirs and they wanted us to pack it all back up so that they could see that we didn't get ne of our egg rolls or crab rangoon. Even though we paid for them. That is literally stealing from people. The lady was such a b*!#$ I have sign on window is all she could say. Why should I have to re check their work when that is what I'm paying them for. These people need to realize that if ur wrong freggin say it and fix the problem instead of just steal from someone. We will never return to this place with their shit hole owners and employees!

Tina W.

Yelp
I give it 1 star because the food was hot and there was plenty. I went today 3/11/14 ordered cashew chicken. Because it says on side of building voted the best this year. Well it was gross! I paid for all white meat. I had dark meat , fat and gristle. It tasted odd, I couldn't figure out why. My son said it almost taste like Popeyes chicken. It had rice with it the rice also had an odd taste. I ordered ragoons. Now they tasted pretty good. So that's Cashew Chicken with rice an order of Ragoons. And a cup of water for $12! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY on this place!

Amanda N.

Yelp
Horrible! Rude lady at the counter. General Tso's tasted NOTHING like General Tso's should. My 15-year-old son who can usually eat any grown man under the table (and Chinese food is his favorite) wouldn't even finish it after only couple of bites. Crab rangoon was thick and all cream cheese (no sign of any crab meat). Do yourself a favor and go to McDonalds.

Bailey M.

Yelp
all we ordered were wontons..... and they were all completely empty. just the fried outside. we waited 15 minutes in the drive thru for nothing.
