I celebrated my birthday at Pink Lotus, and I absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. It’s officially my new favorite Thai spot, and I will definitely be returning.
Palette Cleanser:
It tasted exactly like fruit-loop milk — my inner child was so pleased.
Ambiance Touch:
The warm lemongrass towel was such a relaxing, luxurious detail. Loved it.
Appetizers:
We ordered the spicy clams, steak tartare, and spicy calamari — every single dish was exceptional. If you enjoy spice, they strike the perfect balance of bold flavor and heat without overwhelming the palate.
The calamari sauce was a pleasant surprise — not the typical sweet chili sauce you find everywhere (although they do offer it). Instead, it was a green sweet-and-spicy garlic lime chili sauce that honestly outshined the calamari itself. I genuinely wanted to drink it!
Entrée — Grilled Branzino:
The presentation was stunning — the fish arrives simmering over a flame, and the sauce was delicate, sweet, and beautifully balanced. It reminded me of the calamari sauce, just without the spice.
However, this is where things took a bit of a turn. Before serving, the waitress mentioned I might find “one or two” bones throughout the fish. Instead, I ended up with what felt like a literal pile of bones in nearly every bite. It became a running theme throughout the meal. Both the waitress and manager apologized multiple times, but no attempt was made to compensate, acknowledge the special occasion, or make it right.
Because it was my birthday, the lack of attention to the celebration — combined with the constant interruptions of bones — really pulled the experience down. It felt like a miss in an otherwise beautiful dinner.
Overall:
Despite that one disappointment, the food, flavors, and overall vibe were incredible. I still recommend this place and will absolutely go again — next time, I’m choosing the fried Branzino instead.
