Where to Eat in the Twin Cities, Minnesota | Bon Appétit

"If I were ever in a desert-island situation, subsisting on canned mackerel and Tang, the dish I’d dream most about eating is the crunchy, browned rectangle of rice topped with spicy tuna, serrano pepper slices, and daikon atPinKU Japanese Street Food. Each item from the mix-and-match menu at chef John Sugimura’s fast-casual eatery is served on a cafeteria tray, and though I’d happily fill it with nothing but tuna, I always make room for the gyoza and a special like onigiri or crackly karaage fried chicken." - ByAshlea Halpern

Came with a reservation and Ashley was so nice and attentive. She gave us demos on how to pipe the icing! All the charms are cute and finished in the 2 hour time slot with time to spare. It was a creative and comfortable experience. I love this shop and I recommend it highly to anyone who loves deco! 💜 I did a frame and a hair clip. The iridescent icing was definitely easier to pipe then the solid colors. I had an absolute lovely experience and would love to come back again to deco phone cases!

I want to give a big shout out to Ashley, and all the crew at Pinkyu, for making my birthday celebration amazing! I emailed Ashley and she got back me to right away. She explained the process to me, I paid my deposit, and we were set. The day of, she let me get there 30 minutes prior to my time slot to set up, and since my crew was already waiting, she allowed them to start earlier. Everyone in the studio was so kind, patient and accommodating to my party of 17. Everyone loved the studio, I will be coming back for my future events. Thank you guys soo much, you made my day that more special.

Make sure you get yourself a reservation online for the weekend it gets busy and full! Also show up on time or your reservation would be given up to someone else. We gave a walk-in a go since reservations were completely booked and was lucky enough to get a spot since a group didn't show up on time. Best experience! Never done piping deco before and they showed us how and got us running. Definitely a fun activity to do in Little Tokyo and you'll come home with a cute diy souvenir and memories. Service is great and fair! Please come support them!

Google
SO OBSESSED WITH MY CASE 😍 !!!! so happy that we finally have a place in LA to get creative and make the cutest things. Ashley is THE sweetest and walked me through the whole process and taught me a few piping methods (i struggled 😅) !! also im happy i planned my charm layout and took a photo for reference before applying the cream glue. ANYWAYS will be back! snag an appointment with your besties when you can and enjoy the side benefits of listening to great 🎵music while you design, seeing cute doggos who were just groomed, and all the yummy food and dranks in little tokyo! 😇🥹🥳

super fun, all the charms are cute and the staff is super nice!

Google
Loved this wholesome activity! My friends took me and treated me for my bday, had an amazing time! Make a reservation, show up on time. They give you the explanation for everything and they’re super nice about it, very patient. We went specifically to do cell phone covers. You tell them what type of phone you have. You pick your 2 gel colors then you move on to pick your charms. With the phones, you got 10 main charms and the smaller table of charms is unlimited. Plus the tiny fillers at your table are unlimited as well. I went with a cutesy food theme for mine. Took us about 2 hours. Honestly deciding on the main charms was the longest part! Then they give you a quick piping tutorial for the gel and you’re on your own! They check on you here and there. Give tips or advice if you ask. But you just let your creative vibes flow. We pre-mapped our charms and took a pic so we remembered where we wanted everything. And just keep in mind, it takes about a week for it to completely dry before using it! Pro-tip: when the gel dries, it shrinks. So I see holes/gaps on my phone case. Either over pipe so hopefully it doesn’t dry with gaps or (what I wish I did) ask them to take the gel piping bags home with you to fill in the gaps later. Parking - they’re located inside a little strip plaza with a paid parking lot. We got lucky and there was parking lot construction so we got to park there for the day for free! If you know DTLA Jtown, you know that’s a rare commodity. Side note - no bathrooms.

Google
booked an appointment the night before to surprise my friend on a thursday. we had a lot of fun! it is pricey, but hey, you're paying for an experience. i would recommend going!

Google
Such a great experience!! Booked an appointment to surprise my little cousin for her birthday and it was such a cute and fun activity to do together! The owner was extremely helpful! She gave a ton of tips/tricks for piping and helped me narrow down the million ideas I had for my picture frame! With the allotted time, I was able to make a second frame while everyone worked on their phone cases. Highly recommend coming in if you're in the Little Tokyo area! Lots options with the cute charms and cream glues, not to mention all the cute pups coming in to get groomed next door at Apricot! Will definitely be returning for more of the goodies they have coming!

Yelp
Pinku DIY Studio is such a fun gem in Japantown! I made the cutest phone case that I'm absolutely obsessed with. They have an amazing selection of charms--so much to choose from! The staff were super sweet and even gave us a quick tutorial on how to glue everything properly. It's a great spot to go with friends and get creative. Can't wait to come back and make more!
google avatar

Gracie H.

Yelp
Very cute place, so many options for things to decorate, and a wide selection of charms to add. I do wish I could've used more colors of glue, but overall it was a great experience. The lady who greeted us was very kind, informative, patient, and gave us a demonstration- I'm a very crafty person and wanted to find an activity where my family could have just as much fun even though they aren't as crafty and this was the perfect place. They do have a pretty strict policy on being on time and there aren't any public bathrooms in the lot even, but you do get two full hours of uninterrupted calm craft time- I'd definitely come again!

Yelp
Perfect outing activity with friends, family or partner. We did this for galentine this year and it was a very fun experience. The front desk lady was helpful and patient with us. We had a group of 8 girls. Everyone pick different items to decorate. The charms were very cute and they definitely have variety of them to fit whatever style you're going for. The tutorial was easy to follow even if u don't have any experience you can create a masterpiece. Definitely a cute date night idea. Come check them out.

Yelp
I had SO much fun at Pinku! I've always wanted to try Decoden and this is a fun, no-stress way to experience it. It's a bit pricy as we paid over $100 for two, but it's such a fun bonding DIY experience and you get a really unique souvenir out of it so I think it's worth it! I made a heart jewelry case as it looked the most fun to decorate, and my husband picked a glasses case. The project that you pick determines the price, how many colors of piping you're able to pick, and how many big charms you can grab. There is also a whole table dedicated to free charms that you can grab an unlimited number of. Doing the Decoden is surprisingly easy if you're not too caught up on perfection, and I'm really happy with how mine turned out and I thought my husband's was so cute as well. The 2 hours you're given to decorate is plenty of time. The finished products are packaged up nicely in little cake boxes. It's such a fun date idea or fun activity to do with your friends. Highly recommend and I thought this would be a one-and-done for me but I would not mind going back and making another project in the future.

Yelp
Came here with my girlies for galentines day and everyone had a blast. Don't forget to follow their IG and tag them on your story to receive $5 off. [Service 5/5]: Came here with a group of 8 and they were able to accommodate us all on one table. Everyone was so friendly and didn't make us feel rushed. I like how they gave us all a practice paper to practice piping. It was a lot harder than it looked, but with all the charms, it was hard to notice the imperfections. I also loved how they give everyone a free token to win a prize in the claw machine. I won a cute butterfly keychain with a $5 off coupon for next time. [Selection 5/5]: I love how many different types of charms there were. And they also had a table of unlimited smaller charms too. [Value 3/5]: In terms of value, I feel like they could do a better job with pricing the smaller hair clips or picture frames more relative to their size. However, overall I would definitely come back and would recommend to others.

Yelp
Had another great experience and fun time here. Made reservation to come in on a Sunday afternoon, the parking lot was open so parking was free but the lot does get crowded. Customer service was perfect! The associates teach you how to use the pipe glue. We wanted to decorate the large picture frame ($50), which we got to choose 15 large charms, then it was unlimited smaller charms. It's so fun to decorate and get creative. My daughter loves arts & crafts so this is her kind of thing.

Yelp
I had so much fun here and I fear it has unlocked a new hobby for me. The two hours is more than enough time to decorate your item of choosing. I recommend choosing the frostings that have glitter in them, because the solid color ones seemed a bit runny. They can do a piping tutorial if you request. I also recommend that so that you can know what the different pipes are! There is a discount if you tag them on your instastory, and they gave us a coin to try the claw machine :,) Plus, there is a designated parking lot.

Yelp
This is a super cute studio for DIY decoden charms on phone cases, picture frame, purse, jewelry box, hair pin, hair claw clip, gingerbread house, etc. The employees explain the process so you are informed step by step. The charm options are abundant and laid out on the table in front. Depending which item you get, that will determine how many charms you get to choose. For jewelry box, I was able to choose 20 charms, there is a separate table for certain charms that are unlimited and you may use as many as you want. If you need a piping tutorial, they will show your table how to pipe. The whole appointment takes about 2 hours. Very fun activity to do for all ages.

Yelp
Pros: Went here with a large group so we had to make two separate reservations. You can actually book a larger party but you will get charged more. We just booked two spots with about 30min between them. It worked out fine because they ended up putting our tables next to each other when a table opened up. The staff is super kind and they showed us different techniques for piping. This made me feel at ease since I was afraid I'd be bad at it. The "frosting" is a lot easier to pipe versus real frosting. More decoden stores have been opening but I think Pinku has the best selection of charms because they have charms for multiple IPs. There's a cute shop elsewhere that I considered but they mostly had Sanrio charms. There's a good mix for everyone at Pinku. Cons: In my opinion, the pricing is too high and kind of inconsistent. For example, their instax size picture frames cost about 40 dollars and their phone cases 45. Why does a tiny picture frame cost so much money? I can't remember the cost of the tiny hair clips but I thought it was overpriced too. For my friends who chose small items, they were finished much sooner and had to wait around for us. I mean there really is barely any real estate for tiny hair clips, hair claws and small frames so it really shouldn't be so pricey haha. Also I let my case dry for more days then they recommended but the frosting on the bottom did not stay put and now pops out. I had to get industrial glue to attach it back to the case. I'm not sure why only the bottom lifted but my friends actually experienced the same with their items. It seems like the frosting shrinks somewhat when drying so they had a lot of weird empty spaces on their heart boxes once it dried. Overall though, I'm giving this place 4 stars because even with pricing, I really enjoyed the experience. It's a fun activity and a way to be creative. I also loved the way my case turned out. Pro tip: if you choose a light color frosting like I did, prepare for it to get dirty and be impossible to clean. It's kind of discolored now and the material won't budge no matter what kind of cleaning agent I put on it

Yelp
This is hands down one of the best activities to do around LA. The shop is so cute and well-kept. They have a large variety of different 'frosting' colors and charms. It's bit expensive but I think worth it for the experience. They do give a $5 discount if you share your creations and follow them on instagram. The staff is very friendly and gives a piping lesson so that you are able to do it on your own. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for indoor activities in the city.

Yelp
Such a fun experience! Went for my birthday with my daughters if you love all things cute and love being creative this is for you! The experience was so amazing so relaxing You pick out of the items they offer from phone cases, jewelry boxes, mirrors, frames etc Then you pick out your charms your colors of "icing" glue and they sit you at a table give you a lesson on how to decorate with the glue and leave you to your creativity so fun and relaxing Hardest part is picking from all the fun charms The lady is super nice and sweet It's a bit expensive but worth the price for the experience.. I will definitely be back

Yelp
This place was so cute, I could've spent many hours here (but sadly was maxed out at 2 lol). You get the option to decorate things like phone cases, claw clips, photo frames, and my friend and I ended up choosing the jewelry box. It comes in several colors and depends on what's available but they had white, pink, and purple available. For the cake icing, you also get multiple color so the options are endless. You get so many options for charms and I spent so much time deciding what to get. I think it's helpful coming in with some inspo pics in mind but also have fun with it! You will also get to learn how to do the piping too! My hands got so tired after a while doing it. Overall it was such a fun experience and I love how my jewelry box came out. The shop is located in a plaza with a parking lot. I went on a Sunday and luckily parking was free! You will also get $5 off if you share your pics on IG and follow the shop's account!

Yelp
I saw this little gem on social media and decided it would make a great mother-daughter date activity. It was hard to book an appointment on a weekend and found myself having to wait a few months to book during spring break when my child is out of school. It was worth the wait! This quaint little place is located in an inconspicuous shopping center in little Tokyo. Parking was $6 with validation. **parking is cash only fyi ** we entered and were warmly greeted. We picked our projects and charms as well as frosting colors. The attendant gave us a short piping lesson and we were off to have fun. It was a great experience, albeit pricey. The total was $109 plus parking. My daughter and I enjoyed the experience and will likely return soon.

Yelp
I found Pinku on Tiktok - a little shop to make decoden pieces. They have a variety of items to decorate like phone cases, mirrors, claw clips, jewelry boxes and more! My friend and I decided to make heart jewelry boxes, which came in a few colors. We made an appt online a few weeks in advance. They do take down your card info so make sure you don't no-show. When we arrived, we parked in the lot where it cost about $4 with validation. The worker was super patient and kind when explaining the details - 2 hours to sit and decorate, 3 colors of glue, 20 charms included and unlimited mini charms/glitter. She showed us a few piping techniques and we were able to practice. The outcome was sooo cute and came with a little "cake" box to let it dry without ruining it. It takes 5 days to fully harden. 100% recommend coming here with some friends and decorating to your aesthetic.

Yelp
I've always wanted to decorate something here and I finally had the chance to yesterday. I know this store is cute but my god it was cuteness overload when I stepped inside. They offer many different items that you can decorate like jewelry boxes, mirrors, hair clips, a glasses case, phone cases, etc.! I opted to decorate a large photo frame. It came with 2 different colors of "frosting" and 15 large charms. They have a variety of different colored "frostings" that you can choose from. Some being a solid color and some being translucent! The charms they have are sooooo cute! I took my time picking them since they were all so adorable and there were many to choose from. They even have freebie small charms at another table and little freebie charms at the decorating tables! I find decorating to be peaceful so I had a great time. I love how my piece came out and I plan on coming back sometime soon!

Yelp
I have been eyeing this place for quite awhile now. I've seen posts on Instagram and considered visiting a couple weeks ago, but they have since gotten very busy and require an appointment that you schedule online on their website. Honestly, very happy that these appointments are in place as the studio is quaint and cozy, so it's nice not to be too crowded. There is a private lot where Pinku is located, so be sure to get a validation stamp. Most days are $2 per hour, and I believe most Sunday's and Monday's are free. Once you decide on what you'd like to decorate, you select your colored simulation glues, and big charms. The charms are so cute and high quality. My boyfriend and I decided to decorate a Jewelry Box ($55) and a Phone Case ($45 + $5 for the bear popsocket). Once we chose our glues and charms, we were seated with our items placed, and we were taught how to pipe and make bubbles. I am so glad we were given a tutorial as I had no idea how to go about this neatly. At your decorating station, there are paper towels, wet wipes, plastic spoons for small glitters and rhinestones, toothpicks, and scissors and nail files (to rough up surfaces). Literally everything you need! Also, there was a good selection of glitters and rhinestones to use at each station, and another table with some smaller charms you are able to use. Decorating was so much fun! I honestly can't believe how much fun we had, and how nice our creations turned out! This was such a unique and worthwhile experience. Definitely cannot wait to visit again soon! (Yep, we already made another appointment!)

Yelp
Love this place. The only downside is that they don't have restroom for customer usage here. They tell you to go across the plaza to the chicken restaurant to borrow their restroom, which that restroom is disgusting.

Yelp
Such a fun experience in Little Tokyo. Perfect for a girl's day or solo adventure since it's so relaxing. Booking: Had to make an appointment a month in advance since spots were already taken for the current month. A credit card is required on file since there's a fee for late cancellation/no show. Location: Parking in the lot but it is paid parking (typical for LA, but it is also cash only). Since our appointment was after the lunch rush, there were plenty of spots otherwise I can see it being trickier if you're competing with those here for the restaurants. Pinku validates as well. Process: Our group selected jewelry boxes and a phone case. The staff were really friendly and walked us through the process. After choosing our jewelry box colors, we were directed to the giant charm tables. They have a lot of cute charms with tons of recognizable characters. Pictures don't do it justice - there are literally so many options. Before coming here, it might be helpful to think of what design you ant in advance to save time. The inside of the studio is small, but it didn't feel cramped. The studio was full on a weekday. My friends and I had a fun time carefully piping on the "frosting" (decoden cream glue). I will note the glue is a lot easier to work with in the initially but after it gets warm it doesn't hold shape as well, so you need to work kinda fast. The jewelry boxes themselves are just standard plastic and not the best quality but it's more about decorating it. We didn't feel rushed but note that there is a time limit. A huge plus is that you can take home your craft the same day but it needs to dry for a few days. Overall very fun and cute experience.

Yelp
Though very tiny, this place is super fun. There are 1 million options in terms of base color and tokens and decorations and filler. We did a phone case and a glasses case and both my daughter and I really enjoyed it. We are really loving our finished product And are glad we made the trek downtown to enjoy this unique and fun place. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I loooove this place! I've been to a decoden place before - but I think this is my new favorite. Little Tokyo has been my favorite area ever since I was little and I am always watching what businesses come here. I am so happy that Pinku Studio is here and it perfectly matches the vibe of Little Tokyo! Their prices are fair and you have 2 hour slot. Reservations made online to make your own decoden accessory. I went with my girlfriends after the Gudetama Cafe and it was such a cute night. The owner answered all of my questions and as a big advocate to communication, I really liked her :) They have the cutest charms and they're nicely curated - while I love Sanrio, I get tired when vendors choose Sanrio charms with off colors or obviously weird flaws. They did a great job picking the charms here! She also gave a tutorial in piping the cream which was something I don't see a lot. I would come back again

Yelp
The most fun!!! We come here often and it never disappoints in creativity and fun!! The staff is incredibly helpful and guide you through the process. You'll come away with a piece of art!

Yelp
My friend and I were so excited to come across this studio! We had such a fun time decorating our phone case / jewelry box. The environment was clean and cozy, with soft lofi playing in the background which made the experience all the more relaxing. The pricing made sense given that it's a small business, in LA where rent is extremely expensive, and the quantity/quality of supplies they provide for decorating. The women who checked us in and gave a brief tutorial were very sweet and well organized. Overall, it was really nice to craft and be creative (in a setting more-suited for adults than kids) while catching up with a friend. I definitely look forward to coming back

Yelp
So cute! I've seen decoden for a while now, but it's always felt too intimidating to try on my own. I love how Pinku offers a variety of options, from phone cases to photo frames to jewelry boxes ($55). You also get a $5 discount for posting on Instagram. There's so many colors of glue and charms to choose from! We made a reservation for 3, and they're very nice about teaching everyone how to pipe a few different styles of glue "frosting" and generous about time. We had 2 hours, which was actually the perfect amount of time considering how long I spent looking at all the cute charms. I would definitely come back!

Tammy N.

Yelp
This was such a fun and cute experience! Perfect for a date or a day out with the girls. I came here with my girlfriends and we had an absolute blast! We did the jewelry box decorating and it was so much fun. It was definitely hard at first and took us a while to get the piping down but the instructor was so kind and patient with us. The customer service was a 10/10. Thank you so much. They had such a huge selection of charms and frosting creams, along with items to decorate. The prices were fair and worth it. We will so be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Service was really good. They treat you like you own the place and the selection of the decorations are really good. I found what I needed and I really am proud that I got to be in. This is really not that bad $55 for a jewelry box worth it because you got a decorate yourself
google avatar

Clarissa N.

Yelp
I went here with my friends for a girls day and it was so much fun. I highly recommend reservations cause walk-ins are hard to fit in their schedule. They always had last minute openings so make sure to check their website cause it pops up randomly! I liked the overall selection they had for decorating and the charms were endless. Although I did enjoy it, it was definitely on the pricey end. I paid for large photo frames for 50 ( it was originally 55 but I posted on IG and they give u a $5 discount) when I know it probably cost less than that for them to buy. Even though it comes with 15 large charms, 2 piping colors, and limitless small beads I still don't think it'll add up to around 50. Overall, the ladies there were really sweet and I was nervous since I never used a pipette tube for anything but they teach you before you start decorating and are there if you need help. I'm not sure I would come again since it was quite pricey but it was a fun experience with my friends.
google avatar

Yelp
Had such a fun experience with 2 of my friends! We found this spot through TikTok and decided to create a custom cake jewelry box. The staff was so friendly in guiding us how to ice our cakes. Would definitely do this again!

Yelp
Pinku is always such a fun experience! I love bringing my nieces here, as they get to unleash their creativity and make their own unique phone cases. It's a great way for them to express themselves while having a blast. The staff is friendly and helpful, making the experience even better. I highly recommend Pinku for a fun and creative outing!

Yelp
Easy to find Cute place The owners were helpful, organized, and friendly. Fun experience and great selection of colors and items to use for decoration. There is plenty of time to decorate, 2 hours. A little on the pricey end. So, unfortunately, I probably can't come back because I just can't afford to. Maybe have people bring pre-approved items to decorate and to take a little off the price. But it's a small business, and I really want to support it. I just don't have the luxury of doing so, which sucks. Overall, I'm so happy I was able to come do this. It was a cute little date and right next to little Tokyo.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place. I've been to Pinku twice already. The owner is super nice. There are so many choices when it comes to colors and charms. It is very clean and the decor is super cute.

Yelp
DIY. Cute and dandy place. Great thing about the whole experience is you get a QR code with a video and photo copy. Hope no transient wrecks the place.

Audrey L.

Yelp
I went here with my mom and this was soo much fun! Their service was perfect and the selection of items and charms were ad! Overall i have to admit, it was a bit expensive, but definitely worth the experience!

Jayda H.

Yelp
I loved this date with my boyfriend! I absolutely love Pinku! I already am begging him to go back. Owner is extremely sweet and you can tell she put her heart and soul into this business. Tons of charms to choose from! I did feel like it was a little expensive but extremely worth it for what you get, you just have to make the most of it. I would probably suggest adding a wall of pictures of people's projects or a step guide but I do understand the fact that it is your craft, you get to pick and choose what you want to do. It is only because we had a little trouble getting some inspiration and where to start. You are provided with tons of supplies to help your creation become perfect. I would also like to suggest that the charms will flatten out a little bit so don't add a little standing figure, mine fell, but then again maybe it was just mine. I hope to be back soon!

Helen V.

Yelp
Super cute studio, I found Pinku when I googled "decoden studios" on google and this location popped up. I scheduled a reservation with my boyfriend. When arriving at the location there is a parking lot but it has limited spaces. There is also metered parking outside the lot. Pinku does validate :) The hostess was very kind-she welcomed us and gave us the breakdown of what we will need for our items we chose: my boyfriend who chose large (4"x6" )frame was able to use 2 colors and 15 large charms. I got a phone case and was able to use 2 colors and 10 large charms. There is so many charms to choose from we spent a little time choosing our charms. It helps if you have a theme in mind it helps narrow down your choices. There is also a good range of colors including some shimmery type colors you can choose. While you're selecting your charms our hostess is prepping the pipe bags and your table. Once you're done choosing your charms you are given a tutorial of how to pipe on a paper towel. I had a harder time learning to pipe on the paper in comparison to my phone case but I really appreciate the time she takes to teach you how to pipe. It was a very enjoyable experience, you are left alone for the most part so I didn't feel pressured having someone constantly check on me- but she was still around for questions of course. It was $45 for the phone case and $50 for the large picture frame. Prices are listed on their website so we weren't caught off guard with the prices. So if you're curious about what they have-do check their website! It is a lot of work to pipe the colors, the glue is very thick so you're gonna get a workout! But they supply you with wet wipes (I used this a few times to fix my mistakes ) paper towels, Q tips, tongue depressors, and more to help with your decorating. Right now they are offering $5 off if you follow Pinku on instagram and post a story of your creation- this is per item. I was putting my left over charms when my bf went to pay and I overheard if he had an instagram also but he doesn't. So I'm not sure if it's applied per item or just $5 off the whole thing. That was my mistake not asking. This was a very fun experience! Look forward to returning!
