Pinna - Review - Mayfair - London - The Infatuation

"A Sardinian spot on Mayfair’s Curzon Street, Pinna has a menu of things like Galician octopus salad and lobster spaghettoni, as well as a very, very long wine list. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Mixed feelings. Food is okay, nothing spectacular but a standard modern Italian menu where everyone could probably find something. The hostess barely acknowledged us as we walked into the almost empty restaurant for lunch, proceeded to seat us at our table as if we had massively inconvenienced her… a fantastic server from Orkney made us completely forget about that cold first impression, she was so absolutely lovely and helpful that I feel it’s worth mentioning. The starters were decent, really enjoyed the carpaccio. The silver mullet was unusual, and while I liked it, I assume it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. The tuna pasta was mediocre, lacked flavor, but was fine. The fish of the day was unfortunately bland and didn’t taste of anything. Dessert also nothing to ride home about, also worth mentioning the tiny portion size even when you consider it’s a lunch menu item…. I believe the restaurant is behind the wild/fantomas etc enterprise and I’m wondering whether they are going for quantity over quality? It felt uninspired and even with lunch menus felt a bit lackluster for 120£~ total.

I discovered Pinna Mayfair along Curzon Street a few evenings ago while strolling through the English capital. It was a pleasant and unexpected surprise—a wonderful gift of Mediterranean cuisine nestled in the heart of this prestigious neighborhood. In fact, I was simply looking for a modest restaurant offering quality ingredients, but I found much more. The interior is extremely well-designed—elegant yet understated. The kitchen opens onto the dining room, allowing diners to watch the culinary team at work like musicians performing a grand symphony, perfectly orchestrated by the chef. The food—appetizers, first and second courses (following the Italian tradition)—is not overwhelming in variety. It avoids the trap of "too much of nothing" and instead offers an essential selection that truly delivers. The quality of the ingredients fully met my expectations. The cuisine is primarily Mediterranean in origin, particularly inspired by Sardinia—a region I know well. And to my great surprise, some of the dishes I tasted exceeded all expectations. One standout example: the fregola with seafood, the best I’ve ever had. The tuna carpaccio was excellent, with a refined and sophisticated flavor. The charcoal-grilled meat was of premium quality—cooked over glowing embers to perfection. There is also a wide and refined wine selection, with bottles from various origins. All in all, the pricing is very reasonable, especially considering the exceptional quality offered at Pinna. I wholeheartedly recommend it—top marks.

Pinna had been on my list for a while, if for no other reason but to tick off the final of the (current) 7 restaurants of this group owned by George Bukhov-Weinstein and Ilya Demichev. As per the usual, the interior was beautifully decorated with spacious tables but it was notably quiet on this Saturday evening, remaining not even one quarter full throughout our meal. We were a group of 4 adults and 2 young kids and we ordered the bread, beef tartare, scallop tartare, octopus salad, venison pasta, the turbot, the lamb rack, a 500g Wagyu ribeye, plus potatoes and asparagus on the side. We also ordered a couple of off menu pastas for the kids. For dessert we tried the “Il Bacio” (a type of chocolate and hazelnut mousse), tiramisu and the basque cheesecake. I keep coming back to this group due to the excellent food, and Pinna did not disappoint. All the dishes were really well prepared, it was hard to pick favourites. The steak is usually a highlight as it was here once again, cooked with a degree of precision that you don’t often see. The beef tartare too was unusual, coming in slightly larger chunks, but delicious all the same. The stand out dessert was the tiramisu which seemed made to order (you could choose whether to include alcohol or not) and the powerful tones of coffee really came through nicely. Service was very friendly but rather slow. This was surprising given the restaurant had been almost empty at the point of us placing our initial order. This group usually impresses us with their speedy service but there were a few delays on this occasion, including a bizarrely long wait for a lemonade order. The bill for our meal came to £830 of which £210 was spent on drinks. Expensive no doubt but this has also been a common trait with this group of restaurants and pricing here was not dissimilar to other venues. In conclusion, some excellent food in a very comfortable setting but with high prices and definite room for improvement on the service. I would return, although my top picks in the group remain unchanged with Fantomas in top place, followed by Belvedere and Lita.

Pinna, named after its Sardinian chef Achille Pinna, this Italian restaurant delivers a modern interpretation of Sardinian cuisine. The starters were just ok but the pastas and the desserts were fabulous. Elegant and relaxing atmosphere. Friendly and efficient service.

Elegant, confident, a special occasion kind of place. Pinna serves Italian cuisine that revolvs around classic recipes and exceptional produce, resulting in clean subtle flavours. Loved their homemade pasta, a work of art. Dining room is relatively small, which only adds to the allure in my opinion. A luxury yacht of a restaurant and she is a beauty✨

Beautifully interiors with Italian food done the way it should be! The beef tartare was stunning. Good portions and hearty flavours presented beautifully. My favourite was the josper grilled grouper steak- the smokiness of the grill really came through. Achille and the team delivered above and beyond. Serbal was attentive to our table and did an excellent job. Interesting selection of cocktails too 😊👍
