Florence Sandwich Shop Pino’s Sandwiches Opens Its First U.S. Location in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Dating back to 1965 in Florence’s Santa Croce, this family-run salumeria evolved from simple deli offerings into a beloved stop for locals and university students seeking quick, affordable sandwiches or pasta. The first signature, The Best, layers roast beef, mixed vegetables, cheese, and a spicy sauce on schiacciata, then gets pressed until the cheese melts and the crust crisps; over time, customers began swapping in turkey or prosciutto. Today the shop offers more than 30 sandwiches plus daily blackboard specials, with Pino and his wife Antonella at the helm and their daughter Martina now involved. For Pino, the appeal comes from the ingredients and a careful balance of flavors." - Rebecca Roland

I had already tried the most famous sandwich place in Florence elsewhere so I was dying to try something different. Pinot sandwiches is really highly rated inappropriately so. This is a family owned and run business and they are so happy to serve you. There’s a line going out the door, but it moved fairly quickly. As soon as you got the front, Pinot himself took your order and started on making your sandwich. They cut up the meat fresh in front of you and then top it off with the toppings and set it to heat. Then you wait for it to be done before paying. The sandwiches in Italy are such a big size that I have a hard time finishing them on my own, but they’re so good that I end up doing so anyways. It’s a great way to eat on the go or take a seat at one of the numerous tables he has inside. There’s also a pretty decent bathroom if you need that. All in all would recommend this over the other sandwich place since I love local family owned businesses.

I went to Pino’s twice last February and I still think about it at least once a week. The meatball sandwich is the best sandwich I have ever had, my mouth still waters thinking about it. Pino and his family are so kind and they make the most beautiful sandwiches. I will come back to Florence one day and my first stop will be Pino’s. Would love if they made their T-shirts available online as I forgot to get one while there.

Google
Our first meal in Florence and wow the sandwiches did not disappoint! Huge serving and very worth the price. The staff are very friendly and nice, even to our dog. Highly recommend!

Google
Pino’s is a Florentine gem. The Jack and XO Special sandwiches were both outstanding — bold, balanced flavors, generous fillings, and perfectly toasted bread that stayed crisp without overpowering the ingredients. Service was warm and efficient, and the team made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The space is cozy with a small seating area, ideal for a relaxed lunch or a quick, satisfying stop while exploring the city. Highly recommended for anyone who loves sandwiches made with care and great ingredients.

Google
Absolutely amazing sandwiches, unique combinations but prepared traditional Florentine style. And everything is prepared to order, not pre-made. I had the Bomba Ferrari. Delicious. Can’t wait to go back. And owners are super friendly.

Google
Trying out another sandwich shop. Again, there was a long line when we arrived. I ordered the roast beef. The breads are the same crunchy ones. I gave a 5-star because some sandwiches here come with more fresh ingredients. Other than that, I feel all the Italian sandwiches are very similar. There is no need to wait in a long line for a sandwich.

Google
Was good! I had the Turkey best.. can’t say it was AMAZING but it was a fresh and tasty sandwich. The bread was very crispy and waiting line went quickly. Pino is a cool guy. They also had a room of indoor seating which was nice. I paid a little less than 10 euro for a sandwich and water.

Google
Amazing sandwiches! Lots of options and can even make your own! Also offer phenomenal gluten free bread and super accomodating.

Yelp
Pinos sandwiches deserves a line of customers everyday for how good their sandwiches are. Super fresh ingredients and made right in front of you. This is a chic mom and dad shop and has a homey feel. You will not be disappointed at all. My only neg is that their customer bathroom is not in the best condition at all and needs some serious TLC 4.5 stars Highly recommended, the next time I go to Florence I will absolutely be paying a visit here again

Yelp
We came for the sandwiches but can only remember the meatballs. We ordered four different schiachatta sandwiches. While the tourist crowds line up at All'antico Vinaio, many locals head to Pino's. We had already been to AV at their locations in New York, so we opted for a different experience in Florence. The sandwiches were all excellent, especially with creamy strachiatella spread inside. The various spreads make these sandwiches great! Why don't we have these in sandwich shops in the US? You'd be hard pressed to find better deli meats than you can get in Italy too, so these sandwiches are truly fabulous. Please note that the schiachatta bread has no salt, so it's bland compared to most breads, but the texture is fantastic and the blank canvas allows the meats and fillings to become the star of the show. I added on a side of meatballs because they looked pretty good. Well, they were life changing sort of good. I ate so many I couldn't finish my sandwich. They were so tender and the red sauce was fabulous. While my wife and son struggled to find an Aperol Spritz that they enjoyed because of the bitterness, they had a Limoncello Spritz at Pino's that they absolutely loved. It was many with sparkling lemon soda versus a seltzer, giving it the added sweetness they were looking for in a drink.

Yelp
Pino's Panini in Florence is an absolute standout. We were lucky enough to have Mr. Pino himself prepare our sandwiches on both of our visits. His dedication, care, and passion for his craft are truly evident in every bite. The place gets packet but, the line moves remarkably fast, very efficient and warm service. They have a small yet an elaborate menu that offers a diverse selection of their famous panini sandwiches, pastas and even some sweet treats, ensuring there's something for every craving. And for those with dietary preferences, you'll be pleased to find a large vegan and vegetarian selection on their menu. Our first day in Florence we made sure to visit Pino, and ordered two incredible pesto- turkey panini sandwiches. The freshness and quality of the ingredients, combined with Mr. Pino's genuine hospitality, left a lasting impression. Beyond the exquisite food, they offer a great selection of beverages, including wine, beer, and soft drinks. We enjoyed an Aperol Spritz and a glass of their delicious house red wine with our sandwiches. The ambiance is unique and charming, with college pennants from various universities adorning the walls, reflecting its popularity among students and travelers alike. Adding to its character is its fascinating history, as the current wine shop stands on the site of a 1300s prison. We loved it so much that we returned for our farewell to Florence, savoring an eggplant panini and a pepperoni panini & coffees. Pino's experience is one of the best things I've tried in our trip to Italy & undoubtedly earned a spot on my list of favorite restaurants - it's a truly adorable place that's become a must-visit Florentine attraction.

Yelp
We had some great sandwiches at Pino's! First of all, Pino and his staff are so kind and hardworking. There was a long line but they moved very quickly and efficiently. Your order at the counter and then sit down. The indoor seating area is much bigger than I expected and there was seating available despite the long line. My husband had the Magic sandwich and I had the Emily. I loved how fresh the Emily was, but I wish the artichoke hearts were seasoned because they were a bit bland a tough and some seasoning could have added an acidic flavor to brighten up the sandwich. My husband loved his sandwich. We definitely hope to come here again!

Yelp
During my Italy trip planning I came to learn that there are multiple places to get a good sandwich in Firenze. While some are more well known than others, I collected a small list of spots to try while in the city. Pino's landed on my radar at the recommendation of a colleague who stated the friendly atmosphere and quality ingredients made it a destination. That's all you needed to say to me - we were looking for a lunch spot before heading to a museum so we walked over to Pino's to check it out. Walking into Pino's we were greeted by a somewhat typical setup compared to other sandwich spots we've been to - the ordering counter had several meats and cheeses on display in the showcase, and I recognized Pino working behind the counter from the shop's social media posts. In addition to the main ordering area, they have a decently sized sitting area in an adjacent room as well as some outdoor space. The overwhelming majority of the menu is sandwiches, separated into more traditional types and more specialized ones. After browsing, I decided to get the Beegs which consisted of prosciutto, mozzarella, sun-dried tomato, peppers, and pesto. The sandwich was delicious - soft bread, fresh/quality ingredients, and not overstuffed which I appreciated; sandwiches tend to fill me up and be hard to handle (at least in the US) but this was the perfect amount with the bread keeping all the components intact. Service was great - Pino was super friendly and made it his intention to greet us and say bye as we were leaving; I could tell why there is such high praise for him and the rest of the family. Overall, I'm glad we stopped here for lunch - delicious sandwiches, a comfortable environment, and friendly service. I would definitely make it my intention to return the next time I'm in Firenze.

Yelp
I wanted to love love love this place but I thought it was just ok I think the influencers ruined a gem Don't get my wrong the sandwiches are good I just think there are so many others tht are better I'm a simple ingredient person & there sandos are loaded with ingredients kind of overpowering each other Like I said it is good ,... Busy busy line They are very fast paste (kinda defeats the purpose of enjoying the charm of Italy) Very friendly staff They have seating outside n inside It's cute Owner lovely Sandos good

Yelp
My girlfriend and I just checked in at our hotel and we were hungry so we went out for a walk to find a place to eat and we walk by here and there was a small line and we also notice there were a few tourist in line and then we look up the restaurant online and can see it is pretty famous, so we go in line to eat here. The line actually move pretty fast and I was able to order our food with very little Italian and more English. There are plenty of seats outside and on the inside, the staff are very nice and even the customers are very nice because we were able to share a table with another group. The sandwich was good but nothing wow me. But I would still come back for a quick meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Pino himself was awesome-super friendly! We came in late right before close and got sandwiches and a Hugo and limoncello which were both delicious! I got the turkey best sandwich that was the yummiest focaccia sandwich I've gotten since being in Italy! We also tried the Beegs sandwich that was tasty as well. If you love sundried tomatoes you would love this(: I loved looking around at the college flags on the wall as well. It shows this place is truly loved.

Yelp
Wonderful sandwich shop with gluten free bread on offer! I enjoyed the Koarceroise Sepecial but all the sandwich options sounded wonderful. Quick, pleasant counter service and a great price point. Recommended!
google avatar

Ajorin A.

Yelp
Pino's sandwich truly lived up to its hype. Disclaimer the line is extremely long so if you are in a rush it's not the right place to go, but if you have the time it's well worth the wait. The sandwich sizes are huge and the ingredients are fresh. These are hands down the best sandwiches I've tried in Italy.
google avatar

Jaclyn S.

Yelp
Small line out the door but totally manageable and should likely be longer. My favorite sandwich in Florence! The bread was soft and crispy all at once. The meats, cheeses and truffle cream were on point. Plenty of tables inside to eat.

Marjorie O.

Yelp
Pino and his wife and daughter run the show with the most decadent bread with hand cut meet, tasty additions (like truffle cream, pesto, etc) and delightful pecorino cheese. They always are having fun and are in great moods although there are lines, they go fast! Eat here! (And at their new additional Pino's Sandwiches in Los Angeles, CA).
google avatar

Ernesto A.

Yelp
Owner was up front making sandwiches. Easy to order in English and modify the sandwich. Staff were upbeat and helpful. We ordered the chicken best w/o the hot sauce and two drinks. They cut the sandwich for us to share. Sandwich was pressed so it was just hot enough and really tasty. Great chicken cutlet and now drowned in sauce.
google avatar

Yelp
Social media taught us there are three outstanding places in Florence for sandwiches, including Pino's. I'm sure there are many more, but we happened across Pino's first, and I'm glad we did! Super fresh and tasty with the most amazing bread and best deli meats! There is indoor and outdoor seating options. Pro tip: Don't wait for lunch when the lines are long. We showed up hungry around 10:30 am when there was no line, and these sandwiches made an amazing breakfast!
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
Our first experience at Pino's was a great success. Kacie had mentioned this place and her relationship with Pino numerous times so we didn't hesitate to plan our visit here. All the workers are smiling and friendly. They speak Italian and English making it super easy for American visitors to order and enjoy. It's a well oiled machine with the orders and the freshly cut meats right after you choose from all the delicious choices. It truly is a challenging task ordering just one sandwich! They have three rooms and a bathroom for customers. The air conditioning hit the spot since we were there during the 95F+ heat wave! Adults ordered one white and one red wine- SO affordable for a glass!! We grabbed spots to sit in their casual dining setting and devoured our sandwiches and wine. Super tasty! SO impressed with the overall cost and flavor. Kids begged us to return!

Yelp
After getting this recommendation from locals, tour guides, and our hotel front desk we decided to give this place a go. I enjoyed the Tuscan very much. My only regret is not going here again because they have so many options to choose from. I wish I had All'Antico Vinaio to compare to but I was not waiting an hour for a sandwich.
google avatar

Lee W.

Yelp
Incredible sandwiches here. Counter order and seating Inside or out to enjoy your food. If you're looking for incredible sandwiches on the go, this is the spot.
google avatar

Fred T.

Yelp
So we hit up 3 sandwich places when we were in Florence and Pino's was the clear winner. The shop is a bit on the small side but wow were the sandwiches fantastic. The staff was friendly and patient as well. Bomba Ferrari: Served on fresh foccasia, the spicy salami combined perfectly with the sundried tomato's. Add to that pepperoni and pepeprs with a touch of hot sauce. These are very clean sandwiches and not heavily sauced like many. The clear benefit is each flavor shines through and it is impossible to hide bad quality ingredients. Avoid the ridiculous lines at some of the other shops and head to Pino's!!!!

Yelp
Had heard about this place and wanted to give it a whirl and let me just say the sandwich hit the spot!!! The service was great and very friendly!! It was very hot outside and glad I was able to find a spot to sit inside. I would highly recommend this place, there will be a line, but it goes quickly. I also got a glass of their house red wine, but didn't get a pic cause I probably drank it too fast, but it was a nice wine.
google avatar

Parisa A.

Yelp
The service is absolutely amazing - Pino himself is so nice and helpful! The food is unreal it's incredibly delicious, I wish I could eat from them everyday! The ingredients were so fresh and blended so well. I've been recommending this spot to everyone!

Lane F.

Yelp
This was poetry in a bread. I got the finocchiano & will think about it daily. Had a bit of a wait but was worth it for the price and the flavor! Additionally it was moderately quiet inside & had friendly service.

Yelp
The Best! We revisited the Salumeria Verdi, and our old friend Pino and family for the first time since COVID, (15 years since our son Steve discovered it during his semester in Florence!). What I believe sets this food apart, besides the most friendly owner on the planet, is the exceptionally high quality and flavorful was of his meats and bread, oh, and the secret hot sauce! Diane went in for the "Turkey Best" today, while I went in for the meaty "Cannibal" and both were outstanding! They always offer a great selection of wines by the glass at 3-4€ each- both the Bolgheri Supertuscan "Caccia Al Piano" and the Chianti were very nice. Highly recommended and just a 10 minute walk from Piazza Del Signoria! Don't miss it!
google avatar

Lulu T.

Yelp
The best sandwich I've ever had! A family member of ours recommended this place, saying that she tried a bunch of sandwich places during her study abroad, and this was her go to. Told us we had to try it during our honeymoon and we were nervous about it since she had hoped it up so much. It was definitely worth the hype, and the 35 minutes we waited in line to place our order. We watched by during dinner, and it was definitely less busy than our lunch experience. Everyone was very kind there, and the sandwiches are made to order, so the ingredients were very fresh. The Springtime sandwich was out of this world. My husband got the Mr. talker, and while it was tasty, we would prefer the springtime. Prosciutto, fresh tomatoes, pesto, buffalo mozzarella, on a crispy focaccia-like bread. 10/10 would go again, will hopefully have time for another sandwich before we leave.
google avatar

Joi B.

Yelp
Oh, Pino's Sandwiches, you are so heavenly. On par with the super famous Al Antico Vinaio around the corner as far as lines out the door at lunch, but don't be discouraged as it moves equally speedy and they are all so friendly in here from Pino to his young family members and friends who work here. I was surprised and delighted to find not merely a vegetarian sandwich which you'd have to remove things in order for it to become vegan, but an actual dedicated vegan sandwich. Of course if you see other veggies that you want to add or take away, there's the possibility to do that too, however I stuck with the sandwich as is: salty garlic spinach, roasted potatoes, tangy and delicious sundried tomatoes, hot sauce and creamy aubergines on crispy dreamy bread. So good and so affordable (hence the popularity with uni students near and far). I mean, even the Chianti is around 3 euro a glass and our 2 sandwiches came to less than 12 euro. Hard to believe in a world (rather, a city, that being NY) where sandwiches are commonly 20 dollars a pop and not nearly as good. We loved it so much, we went two times in three days and I wouldn't be surprised if we went back a third time.

Alli M.

Yelp
So delicious. Fresh ingredients and the bread was delicious!!! So many good options too. I highly recommend this spot
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
We arrived around 11:00 am so it was pretty quiet in there. Small deli counter, we decided on the special that was written on a chalkboard. It was porchetta, onions, sun dried tomatoes, cheese and pesto. All of this is stuffed into fresh baked focaccia bread and put in a panini press. My daughter wanted to try arancini so we ordered 2 different type. I traditional, the other was fried pickles, I think. Everything came out hot. They were nice enough to cut the sandwich in half for us. Once outside on the patio we were ready to devour this masterpiece. The cheese pull from the arancini was outstanding. The sandwich was crispy outside and the meat was fresh and had great flavor. The pesto was a little more chunky, then at home, and had a lot of garlic in it. It was really good. The sun dried tomatoes were Roma's cut in half and cooked with a ton of spices. This was truly an Italian sandwich. A few simple ingredients all cooked really well on their own and it made it a perfect sandwich.

Yelp
There are so many sandwich shops in Florence but I recommend checking out Pino's! Great sandwiches for a good price. I like that they toast their bread and they are easy to eat (not massive with too much bread to filling ratio). They also have pastas which I didn't try but sound good. The owners are friendly and service is quick.
google avatar

Stringfellow H.

Yelp
A wicked good sammich! My partner and I got two and split them. Each was awesome. Ate outside, which allowed for people watching, so can't comment on the service. That said, off the beaten path, which is nice.
google avatar

Vanessa O.

Yelp
Pino was recommended from someone on my tour and I definitely wanted to try it. There was a line when I reached so I was even more excited. I ordered the Kacierose special. Usually if I'm not familiar with something, I don't eat it. But I went with my gut and trusted this sandwich. It seem like a family business. Pino was front and center. I instantly thought of Beneath a Scarlet Sky, with the Pino character (probably irrelevant lol). Back to food...one of the bestttttt sandwiches I've ever had. Delizioso. Just get here asap.
google avatar

Lindsay S.

Yelp
Best sandwich of my life, hands down!! Pino and is family/staff are true gems! This place is a must when in Florence! I can't say enough good things about the food, the people, and the prices! I dream about that sandwich!

Alicia H.

Yelp
My husband took us here based on the excellent reviews. Pino was nice even though my husband and children were attempting to reinvent the wheel by customizing their sandwiches from scratch rather than choosing from the ample selection provided by Pino. I ordered the La Bandera and everyone agreed my sandwich was the best!

Jayda L.

Yelp
The service was really good! Everyone is very nice and the sandwiches were great, we got the savage and the best roast beef
google avatar

Mallorie T.

Yelp
A great sand which at a great price. No ifs ands or buts about it. The staff is friendly, spoke great English, and allowed me to customize/ change one of the sandwiches just to my liking. I also got a glass of red wine. My whole meal was around 7 euro. If I'm back in Florence I will be coming here again
google avatar

Cassie M.

Yelp
The sandwich was one of my favorite meals in Italy! It beats other shops that are hyped up, and it is way cheaper! Staff was very friendly and the food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the Kacierose special. Lemon soda and water were also available! If you haven't tried lemon soda, I highly recommend it paired with this sandwich!
google avatar

thienly n.

Yelp
Love how highly customizable these sandwiches are and how fun spirited everyone working there is! Such a homey and welcoming feel and the sandwiches are not only economical but delicious!!! I got loads of truffle sauce on mine and it was such a good choice for the last meal in Florence. Definitely come here if you're in Italy!!! You won't regret it!
google avatar

Tova B.

Yelp
they had really good sandwiches! the gluten free bread was just okay though. i've heard the regular bread makes it amazing. i would say there are better gluten free sandwiches around florence but this one was okay. loved the family vibe of pinos
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
My favorite paninis in Firenze! The staff is so friendly, service is quick and any panino you get there is delicious. I've gotten ones off their menu but also built my own and all their ingredients are so fresh. There is seating there or it's a great meal to take to-go!
google avatar

Stiv F.

Yelp
The BEST Sandwiches to be found in Florence Italy will be found at Pino's Sandwiches! Awesome selection, every sandwich we tried was delicious (and we ate there 3-4 times in the week we were there). Incredible staff! The young man remembers you AND what you ate! Portions are large, fresh, tasty! The Pesto is delicious! Staff are all Awesome!
google avatar

Morgan B.

Yelp
The sandwich I had was delicious - the size of the sandwich was perfect and everything on it tasted super fresh. The line was super long, so you will need to be patient, but it was definitely worth the wait. There was also a lot of indoor and outdoor seating which was nice. I would recommend, especially for the price.
google avatar

Chloe B.

Yelp
EVERYONE GO TO THIS PLACE!!! If there's one sandwich place you need to go to in Florence it's this one. Trust. The workers are so nice and they speak good English too. Super cheap and amazing quality. Love love love this place you definitely need a punch card bc you WILL go there enough times to get a free sandwich. Pino's slays my life
google avatar

Milene L.

Yelp
This place really lives up to the hype! I ordered the Vegan sandwich, and it was great, not too spicy and very well-seasoned. I've never had potatoes in a sandwich before, and it was a great combination. Besides the food being great, another thing that sets this place apart in my opinion is the charisma of the people who work here. You're greeted with smiles and friendly conversations (in Spanish, English and, of course, Italian) the moment you walk into the restaurant. The atmosphere of the place is casual and fun. The service is great and quick. I really recommend this place to fellow vegans!

Hannah M.

Yelp
Forget about al anticio, if you want the best sandwich of your life, go to Pinos. It's great to sit outside when the weather is nice and enjoy your sandwich with a drink with friends everybody who works there could not be nicer and they're extremely efficient and accommodating.
google avatar

Neville S.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the food here. We were foreigners looking for some lunch. And like everywhere else in Italy there are millions of options in Florence. But this was a different type of sandwich that we had never experienced and it was delicious. We all tried something different because there were so many meat, cheese, and veggie options. Toasted or not toasted. Was all so good, wish we had something similar in the States. The ladies at the counter were so helpful and very happy to explain how everything worked and what they had to offer.

John B.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches made on amazing bread! Definitely visit this spot when you're in Florence.
google avatar

S M.

Yelp
I went here with some of my classmates and it was amazing!! Not only was the staff super friendly, but the food was delicious! I've been to All'antico Vinaio, but I found that Pino's was the better place overall. They're sandwiches were great and they were half the cost, and as broke college student I highly appreciated it With such an extensive menu, each of us got a different sandwich and none of us had trouble finishing what we got. They had outdoor seating which looked nice but since all the seats were full we sat inside where there was plenty of room. Make sure to not be intimidated by the line because it moves quickly and is well worth the wait! I highly recommend Pino's and my only regret is that I didn't go here sooner!
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
This place is a must! Amazing sandwiches! It's a family run place and everyone was so nice and accommodating. I made my own sandwich with salami, mozzarella, lettuce and pesto and it was amazing. My fiancé got a spicy salami sandwich and loved it. I am still dreaming about this sandwich it was amazing!
google avatar

William H.

Yelp
Tasty, affordable place for hearty, filling sandwiches. Service is fast and friendly, and they even have vegan options. Reasonable prices for drinks as well. I would recommend this place in a pinch when all the other restaurants close in the afternoon. I wasn't the biggest fan of the meatball sandwich, but there are many other delicious options.
google avatar

Lucy H.

Yelp
First meal in Florence and it was delicious! Staff was really friendly, tons of seating everywhere, and lots of options on the menu. I got the Casa panini and it was so fresh with tomatoes and eggplant. I loved the high quality salami and delicious bread. Would recommend this place! oh
