St. Elmo Public Market Isn’t Happening in Austin Anymore | Eater Austin

"Planned for the South Congress space as one of two Rise Brands concepts, Pins Mechanical will be an activity and gaming venue featuring a large entertainment footprint for Austin: the space is slated to include 24 duckpin bowling lanes, 30+ pinball machines, 40+ arcade games (including Frogger and NBA Jam), four bars, a courtyard, and two mezzanines for private events; cocktails will range from classics to house drinks like a s’mores old fashioned and the Chai Me a River (with cold brew and rumchata), plus wines and beers. A company representative told Eater that “Austin aligns perfectly with the creative nature of the Pins brand,” construction will start this year, and the goal is to open in 2024." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
Hosted my boyfriend’s birthday party here and have nothing but great things to say!! Everyone from the events manager to the staff day of went above and beyond. We were able to have individual tabs very easily even as a group of 15. They were flexible about time and even let me come in a couple minutes early to check-in. Thank you Tracy for your hospitality - you were the best server!! There’s not a lot of food options (pizza vs burgers) on site so keep that in mind. You might want to eat before coming here. You’ll need cash or coins for the pinball machines. Reasonable prices for the pins bowling and other games. Highly recommend especially for a birthday or event. Fun time.

Google
This is our all time favorite place. It's family and Draco friendly 🫶 Great games to play for free while enjoying a "game over" drink is absolutely vibezzz! If you have not been here before you need to run now and check it out!! Kids bowl free on Sundays 🙌 @Draco.The.Dalmatian

Google
This place was great. Plenty of Indoor AC. Kid and dog friendly. The only thing was they were out of water for our pup, however grabbed her bowl from our vehicle and filled it with h20.

This place is awesome I don't think it's that expensive but I will say prices are higher than I expected I didn't take any pictures I don't think but I did take some videos but yeah. I did get to try Jew burgers from the food truck and it was really delicious and I've been wanting to try them but I will say though that it was a little expensive too I had four sliders and a basket of fries and I was like 30 bucks. I did get to check out pins mechanical restrooms and they were very nice overall this is a great date spot and will definitely be back.

Google
Visited Pins Mechanical Co a little over a week ago for an outing with coworkers, and I’ve got to say—there may be a lot of spots out there, but none quite like Pins. They absolutely nail the ambiance with their mix of nostalgic pinball machines and classic games, all with a fun, modern twist. The duckpin bowling was unlike anything I’ve ever played—super unique and a total blast! What really stood out was the staff. They go above and beyond to make sure everyone is having a great time and are incredibly knowledgeable about their artfully crafted drinks. I don’t drink alcohol, and they were incredibly thoughtful and accommodating—making sure my drinks were alcohol-free and even creating a special “shot” so I could be included in the team toast. That small gesture meant a lot. There’s truly something for everyone to enjoy here, and you can tell there’s been a ton of thought and creativity put into every corner of the building. I also loved that there were food trucks right outside, which made it super easy to grab a bite without leaving the fun. It’s a great blend of Midwest charm in the heart of Texas —and I love seeing that kind of vibe brought to life in such a fun, engaging way. Highly recommend it for date night, team outings, friend hangs, or just a fun night out. 🎳✨

Google
Over the years, as a native Ohioan (where Pins originated), I’ve told anyone who will listen how perfect a fit Austin would be for a Pins should they ever move this far out west. Lo & behold, they finally did…and it is their BIGGEST and MOST IMPRESSIVE by far! There are 20 lanes for bowling, three different bars, delicious new cocktails, a huge local beer selection (as with all Pins locations), ample games (arcade & non-arcade alike) and a Pins-first “retro-style gaming room.” So excited & still can’t believe y’all are actually here! Hopefully Pins takes over the Punchbowl Social Domain location & we get a second spot in the future! (: Roll on!!!

Google
This place is great. We wanted to check it out for the pinball and old school games, but it turned out to have much more to offer. All of the old school games were in perfect condition, almost museum pieces they were so nice. Whoever built out the arcade and pinball knew what they were doing in terms of game selection. We also ended up bowling, which was a lot of fun. The street tacos from the food truck were delicious.

Google
Visted my son who has an apartment in St. Elmo's and I had to try Pins Mechanical on the property. Very big venue with so much to see and do. Duckpin bowling is available along with many food, drink, and other game options, inside. Outside music stage with live music and a very famous "Jewboy Burger" food truck. I had the famous Jewboy Burger sliders. Amazing smash burgers with an outstanding taste. Enjoyed this huge area with the live music and fun things to do. Dog friendly! If you are in the area, check out Pins Mechanical Company for a night of fun.

Yelp
Went visited Pins a second time on a Sunday evening and I was surprised that it wasn't that busy. I was excited to see three new restaurants had moved into the space since our last visit. I didn't try them since I had already eaten, but will definitely be back for the pizza, sliders and sweet treats. They change out their specialty cocktail menu based on the season, so the drink I wanted again wasn't available. We ended up getting the macho man whiskey cocktail that came with a small slim Jim and the whiskey Good 'Ole Days, which was really good! The bench warmer was unique if you want to try something new. I love all the free games and activities. We can always entertain ourselves for hours here.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! This place is HUGE! A wonderful beer and cocktail selection. Perfect for anyone. DOG FRIENDLY! And can we talk about the games?? Why is duck pin bowling so fun yet kinda hard? It doesn't matter my friend and I brought our dogs. We had a couple of drinks and giggled so much!! The staff are super friendly and have always been welcoming with great recommendations if you want some guidance. Also... their uniform / shirts are so cool. I want one! I'll be back! More bowling and other games in my future! Ps. Some great food trucks on site to choose from so you can spend hours walking, talking, snacking and playing! Why be an adult when you can be a big kid!
google avatar

Yelp
We absolutely LOVE this place! The vibe is chill. There is plenty to do (mostly free) and the kids can play for hours with their friends while you have a drink with friends and family. They don't sell food but have three vendors to choose from that hit the usual bar food like burgers, fries, pizza, cheese curds, and dessert! The drinks are also very good. The last time we were there (we've been there like four times in the last 2 months) we had the special punch. I recommend buying it by the pitcher. Plus the bartenders are cool - tip them well. We would go more if we could but like most families - we are over scheduled!

Yelp
Pins mechanical is a great place for large gatherings or first dates! There is a ton to do and great food and drinks. I highly recommend this place to lots of people. There is not much of a wait staff from what I can see, if you would like a drink they have multiple walk up bars, on top of food trucks. My only complaint that I was very disappointed to take note of is the lack of handicap parking. Despite having parking spots located feet from the entrance, they have chosen to not designate these as handicap. On any given weekend it can get very packed and most parking spots are quite far away hence the need for at least a few handicap spaces.

Yelp
A perfect indoor (with outdoor options? Summer hangout away from the scorching Texas heat. They have bowling, arcade, party games, and an area nostalgic console games. You can throw events or just to come hang out and watch a game on the big screens. Came here for a kid's birthday party and the whole fam had a blast as it was for all ages. Def recommend if looking for an indoor retreat with activities for everyone.

Yelp
Pins Mechanical Co. has been on my bucket list since it opened in April. I'm not much of a bowler, but even if you're not, Pins Mechanical Co has something for everyone! Beyond bowling [duck pin bowling], you'll find giant yard games both inside and out, plenty of TVs and cozy seating for sports fans, a bocce space, old school arcade games, and more. The courtyard even features two permanent food vendors (Jewboy Burgers and Lefty's Pizza Kitchen) and live music (see schedule online for specifics). Drinks are just as plentiful, with beer towers, drafts, liquor, seasonal cocktails, and even boozy snow cones. Whether you're hosting out-of-town guests, planning a unique date night, or just looking for a fun night out, Pins Mechanical Co. is a MUST!! BONUS: After 9 PM, adults only!

Yelp
Cons: had to pay for parking and drinks were not the best. Pros: Lots of seating options, very nice interior space, multiple game options (you have to pay extra), clean restrooms, service was fine. Didn't try their food but my friend said it was good. I went with a group of coworkers and most agreed that the drinks were okay.

Yelp
I was shocked to discover Pins Mechanical Co nestled in the south Austin St Elmo neighborhood. I live in south Austin and had no idea that this amazing entertainment wonderland existed. Pins is the perfect place for those seeking a memorable time and old-school fun. There is plenty of parking. Walking up there is outdoor space with plenty of seating and outdoor games to enjoy. Once inside, it was sensory overload with 43,000 square feet of an adult playground. They have a variety of games many which are free like vintage arcade and pinball machines. The highlight was the duckpin bowling where you can rent a lane and enjoy a game where the skills are very different than normal bowling. The balls are much smaller and do not have finger holes in them. The pins are smaller as well and they are attached to strings that lift the pins each turn to reset. To my amazement you also get 3 turns instead of 2! Since it was my first time playing this game it took some adjusting to develop skills. They also have pinball, patio pong, hookie, ping pong, bocce, foosball and giant jinga. There are numerous entertainment options for everyone. The business is pet friendly and you can take children there before 9 pm. You can bring in outside food or have it delivered. They also have a few good truck options on site including pizza and JewBoy sliders. You can book an event there. I was there for a run club event and we had a personal server who took our order. We also received drink tickets. There were many unique libations including cocktails. I enjoyed the Atomic Blonde with Tequila, Mezcal, Honey Mango and Pineapple. They also have daily specials throughout the week. The bar staff are efficient and friendly. Their specials are shaved ice cocktails. I will definitely be back for economical fun with free and paid entertainment options. So much fun!!!

Yelp
Loved it! Cool place to have a few drinks. The pizza side there wasn't all that. Service was fast and easy. Atmosphere was very chill and inviting.

Yelp
Plenty of space for all the parties! We saw multiple birthday parties going on simultaneously but somehow still didnt feel to overcrowded or overly noisy. I think the open air concept on parts of the building help it to feel this way. There is no shortage of games to try, we tried the huge trash can beer pong, bowling and basketball. We also tried Leftys pizza and Jewboy Sliders. The burger variety and flavor were top notch as well as the fries! The pizza however was overly greasy, grossly overpriced and service was meh. If I could go back I would skip the pizza altogether and stick to burgers. The bars have a lot to choose from so that was nice to have plenty of options. The firepits outside were a nice touch too. We were there for a couple of hours and still only enjoyed less than half of the games. Looking forward to going back and seeing more! Oh, they do have sports games playing on the screen for those interested!
google avatar

Bhagyashree B.

Yelp
This place is huge and AWESOME! There are a all kinds of games including bowling, foosball, patio beer pong, jenga and so much more! Plenty of seating throughout and very open area to accommodate many many people without it feeling like a crowd. Great drinks at the bar and a couple of food trucks available outside. You can also bring your own food and hangout. They even have a fireplace going in the evenings. We will come back to play more!

Yelp
One of my new favorite bars! This place is sooo freaking cool. We came here for our two friends' birthday party and had an area reserved for us outside with picnic tables and cute swings and it was great. The drinks were strong but delicious. When you walk inside, the are is huge. There are a BUNCH of different types of games you can play: bowling, connect 4, classic arcade games, mini golf, sit down video games such as tetris, etc. It was seriously one of the coolest bars ive been to here in Austin and the bartender was also super nice and quick with drinks, and remembered every time I came up to put something else on my boyfriend's tab. Overall a really great new place for an afternoon.

Yelp
What a fun place to hang out with friends or catch a game! This spot has an impressive variety of games and activities--including ping pong, duckpin bowling, trash can pong, shuffleboard, pinball, giant Jenga, video games, foosball, arcade games, and more. There's definitely no shortage of entertainment here. There was plenty of seating and table space, which made it easy for our group to relax between games. There are two bars on-site, but when we visited on a Sunday night around 10:00 PM, only the front bar was open due to the smaller crowd--totally understandable. The drink menu was creative and fun, with a great mix of cocktails and options on tap. Plus, the bartenders were open to making something off-menu if you had a specific request. The male bartender helping us was super friendly and personable, which made the experience even better. Unfortunately, the female bartender we encountered was a bit rude and had poor customer service so we did not order from her again. That said, my group still had an amazing time exploring the space. The facility was clean, aesthetically pleasing, and full of energy. We had a blast trying out all the different activities, and it's definitely a spot we'd come back to for a casual, entertaining night out.

Yelp
What a fun addition to the St. Elmo District! This place has tons of potential and has truly transformed the area. First off, it's massive so there's plenty of space for large groups and events. With multiple bars, food trucks, bowling, arcade games, TVs, and more there's no shortage of things to do. The seating is plentiful, parking is easy, and it stays nice and cool inside even during Austin's hottest days. A few things their adding include weekly drink specials and bringing in permanent food vendors, but I'm excited to have another great entertainment spot in South Austin!
google avatar

Luna D.

Yelp
Oh yeah, Fun Fun Fun! We had such a great time here. We enjoyed everything playing games, catching live music, and even watching the game on TV. There's so much to do! They have different kinds of games, from machines to actual interactive ones, so you will not get bored. The ping pong table is free, first come first serve, which was a nice bonus. The place is huge with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, so you can choose the vibe you are in the mood for. We spent hours just hanging out, and honestly, it felt like the perfect spot to relax, have a few drinks, and enjoy a mix of activities. There's also a food truck where you can order food. Sadly, they closed by the time we were ready to grab something, so trying the food is definitely on the list for our next visit. Definitely a must-visit place!
google avatar

Misty D.

Yelp
This is a pretty cool spot! The service is great, the drinks are ok, but all of the activities can keep our large family entertained for HOURS. And. Most of them are free! The outside space is phenomenal and they have a taco truck and a pizza truck. We had a blast! When we were leaving we passed a very cool area by St Elmo's Beer Garden. We will be back to enjoy Pins Mechanical AND that little warehouse area. There seem to be lots of options!
google avatar

Savannah L.

Yelp
I am obsessed with the new Pins Mechanical in Austin. The design concept is not only larger than life but extremely welcoming! The same Midwest Industrial design but with a twist to fit Texas. Same concept with the DuckPin Bowling, $1 Pinball, Hookie, Skeeball, Yard Pong, Free Vintage Games, Cornhole. But this is the FIRST location with shuffleboard! They have two different food trucks that were on site when I was there unfortunately I had just eaten so I did not get to try them, but that is extremely convenient for if you're spending time there! Rise Brands really showed out for this and I am excited to see the direction that they are headed in!!
google avatar

Jordan D.

Yelp
I have had the Jew boys burger food truck and the Granny's tacos and they both were very good with very good service. The food came out very fast for both trucks. As for the ambiance inside, it is humongous! Plenty of things free things for you to do, including giant lawn pong (beer pong) live music, ping pong (25¢) and all the retro games are free when they are available! Drinks are really strong and they have good specials throughout the week!
google avatar

Sanya G.

Yelp
Pins was a super cool place to check out! My husband and I took our dog along with us. The staff and bartenders were really friendly and they made me an awesome Moscow mule. Don't sleep on the Jell-O shots either. There seems to be some parking around and some garages although those might be the apartment complex. My husband and i had the pizza from lefty's which was nice but $$$. The place just needs better signage for the Jewboys burger truck they have around too. Looking forward to coming here again and trying the games.

Yelp
It looks great and sounded exciting, but it was okay at best. Apparently, a fight had broken out, and the cops were interviewing the people involved out front. I'm thinking, maybe not so kid friendly. The place is big and clean, great! Lots of room for socializing. Duck pin looks really odd, but the people playing seem to like it. Everything else looks pretty standard. The bar is big and well stocked. The prices are reasonable/comparable to other bars in the area. The staff is friendly, but they're stingy with beverage napkins. I think the bev naps are supposed to be part of some cost cutting measure, because they've instituted a 3.5% Entertainment tax to every order. This is annoying, because you don't find out about it until you get your check. I understand that things are more expensive right now, but an "Entertainment Fee" seems shady, especially when you're advertising "free ____". Your whole business is entertainment...charge a cover, ask for donations. increase prices, but don't spit on me and call it rain. A 5% price increase would have increased my drink total from $37.26 to $37.80. I wouldn't have noticed the price difference, and I wouldn't feel tricked. Just food for thought!
google avatar

Marianne L.

Yelp
So my highly anticipated work happy hour was a bust because the management had reserved two thirds of the building to a private party. So we had to walk outside to go the back section, where there is one bar, but very limited gaming options. And we couldn't even rent a lane for duck pin bowling. I really talked up this place for my co-workers, so imagine how disappointed I was by their very limited experience. If you're going to reserve that much space for a private party, just close the whole building and say you're opening late to the public.
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
This place is a great addition for Austin! Free entry, indoors and air conditioned, so perfect for the summer. There are outdoor areas too. There are some free games such as ping pong, certain arcade games, and more. Duckpin bowling for a reasonable charge. Plenty of drink options and a couple food trucks on site. The place is huge and you will be able to have a great time without going broke. Absolutely recommend visiting!
google avatar

Garrett O.

Yelp
Very impressed with our first visit to Pins! The place is massive, and it seemed like there was plenty to do for both adults and families. Spent the most of this visit trying out the pinball machines (thankful they've got plenty of machines to exchange quarters) and a handful of old complementary arcade games. I thought they carried a great selection of local brews, and there were at least two food trucks outside (one Granny's tacos and one Lefty's pizza). Service for the pizza truck took ~30 min on a busy weekend, but plenty of time to try out the outdoor games as well (jenga, pong, etc.). You'll likely find something at Pins (even the mini bowling looked like kids would love it) that fits your combo of choice, and can't go wrong during a sporting event (lots of TVs with the College World Series on when we went). The music felt like it was tailored to 80s, 90s, and 2000s aficionados. Shoutout to whoever was leading the playlist! Look forward to the next visit.

Yelp
Planned a corporate event on a Thursday afternoon for about 20 employees and Pins Mechanical made it so easy. We paid for a bar tab, 1 duck pin lane for 2 hours and I purchased pizzas at lefty's. There was more than enough food and drink for everyone! Services was fantastic and everyone had a great time playing duck open bowling and the free games all around. It's a great spot for kids or just hanging with friends. Best part.. AC!!

Yelp
Guys run here! Don't walk, this place is so dope. A massive entertainment center. With board games life-size pong. A arcade, old pinball machines, duck pin, bowling, a freaking video game lounge and so much more plus live music and if you get hungry, they have a little slider so good. This is a must go especially for a date night of fun!
google avatar

Yelp
This is literally my favorite place in Austin. It is conveniently located right off South Congress near Saint Elmo Road. When you first drive in it doesn't look like it's going to be as big as it is, but this place is enormous with something for everyone! They have ample parking And the staff is very helpful. Let me just start by saying this is such a great facility because I didn't see a single game that was broken while I was there. They have ski ball, basketball games , arcade games, a game console room, bowling, and so much more! You can order food as well as visit the food truck. When we were there, there was live music, which was pretty darn good! I have to say the drink specials were pretty yummy too. I've already decided. I'm having my next birthday here!! I saw so many birthday parties and it was not specific to kids. In fact, this facility is all ages until 9 PM when it turns to adult only. If you have not visited Pins mechanical, you are missing out.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Pins mechanical is the spot to be! Its a great place to come by if you want to play some games, eat some good food, and grab a drink. They have specials on their drinks each day which is always a plus. The space is huge and accommodates everyone. I love that they have both front and back patios to enjoy sitting outside. They also have unique games like playing "beer pong" but using huge trash cans instead. I ate the tacos in the food truck out back and was absolutely obsessed! Some of the best tacos I've had from a food truck in Austin.

Yelp
I wrote a review three months ago and was very much disappointed but went back last week to a whole new attitude from not only the staff but the bartenders. Before I could not get anyone to notice the line at the bar or to get the attention of anyone working there. Now that I have gone back last week, it was very pleasant, bartenders were now offering customer service, staff was noticing patrons and being helpful. Food options were still very expensive but overall a good time.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is about Jew boy burger that's right outside pins. This is one of the greatest burgers and fries and not to mention their smoked mayo. So delicious. And filling. The staff are good polite people as well

Yelp
TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!! I invited a few friends from out of town to come here. My ID expired recently (I have a temporary copy while mine is shipped and a passport). I came in ordered a drink, got ID they were fine. I had two beers and came back to get a pitcher for my friends. They ask for my ID it's expired so my friend uses his. A few moments later a manager comes over and kicks me out for an expired ID. I am upset but kind of understand I offer to show him my temp ID or passport and think nothing of it. He denies it and proceeds to tell me to leave. For full visibility, I have never left a review in my life. I went in there minded my own business and they were completely uncommunicative. Absolutely shocked that a passport does not work as an ID. Also I am 25 and another 25 year old there got screamed at by a manager while I was there (unrelated but shows what kind of people run this place)

Rik W.

Yelp
Terrible noise level, cement garage ambience, no parking, terrible cheap damaged ping pong tables. Not going back.
google avatar

Alisa N.

Yelp
I love this place! It is so fun! A few things that need to be improved: The lines for duckpin bowling/shuffleboard are very confusing. There are two separate lines, and it looks like they are both signing you up for the waitlist/taking your names, but if you are being called after the waitlist, only one line is where you get helped. The girl who helped us with an iPad just said to wait in line and didn't say which one, and there is no sign. It seems that they are still ironing things out. We also only saw one food truck, and hope more trucks will be available. The games are amazing! The atmosphere is very welcoming! I definitely plan to come back.
google avatar

Yelp
We celebrated a going-away with a friend and seemed pretty smooth due to the super attentive staff assigned. There are plenty of free and for pay games whether arcade or physical with plenty of drinks. It's a bit limited in parking but huge and fun overall!

Ana A.

Yelp
I do not recommend spending game day here. They promoted a watch party but the entirety of the indoor space was marked as reserved (most bars are first come first serve on game days, I got there at 9am for that reason which was useless). Most of the reserved areas were not even being fully used. The lines for the bar were so long. Which I get game day gets busy, but you should vote staff for this purpose, each bar only had 2 maybe 3 bartenders. with the entirety of the indoor space reserved, there was no extra seating outside and no shade provided in the heat.

Matt A.

Yelp
Staff is very rude and disrespectful we didn't notice what time they opened . The doors to the building were open at 3:15pm so my wife and I walked in to look at the different games and menu. and the staff told us to exit till they open at 4pm. If your business is closed then keep your doors locked until it's time to open . I will never be back . The staff was very rude and disrespectful to my wife and me .

Daniel V.

Yelp
terrible service. would not recommend. 0/10. the Yard is just few steps away, just go there.
