"Melrose sandwich spot Pirolo’s Panino has closed. The restaurant only just opened in April, but co-owner Giancarlo Pagani says the former Greenspan’s Grilled Cheese space has proven to be logistically challenging. In a note sent to Eater, he says: “Despite the concept’s popularity, the space proved inefficient operationally so we have made the difficult decision to close.”" - Farley Elliott

"There’s no reason not to check out new Fairfax deli Pirolo’s Panino when all of the best hits are offered for only $15. Yes, that means lemon pepper wings, the signature Godfather sandwich, and even a sweet finish of a classic Italian cannoli." - Crystal Coser

"Pirolo’s Panino is an Italian deli with a modern-classic vibe, featuring compact menus, no-nonsense stools, and a variety of East Coast deli-style foods including salads, light pastas, and sandwiches. The venue is backed by chef Michael Pirolo and hospitality vet John Kolaski." - Farley Elliott

"There’s a surprising new sandwich shop landing along Melrose soon, taking up residence inside the shuttered Greenspan’s Grilled Cheese. The place is called Pirolo’s Panino, and it should open in a matter of weeks. Pirolo’s is in part the work of namesake chef Michael Pirolo, a 2016 James Beard Foundation Award semi-finalist in the Best Chef South category for his restaurant Italian Macchialina. He’s joined up with John Kolaski (Disruptive Restaurant Group) and his new K2 restaurant group, with plans to bring a variety of dining experiences to Los Angeles and beyond in the near future. First up is the casual Melrose spot, focusing mostly on takeaway sandwiches like meatball subs, chicken parmesan, and Italian cold cuts, along with salads and main dishes like baked ziti. There will be some limited seating at the actual address, but mostly the shop is meant for grab-and-go meals and delivery." - Farley Elliott

Thank god for Pirolos Panino. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am they opened up in my neighborhood Easily one of the best meatball subs I have ever had in my life, but don’t sleep on the baked macaroni or the cheese puffs. Can’t wait to come back next week.

We stopped in yesterday and had a wonderful lunch in their back courtyard. The bread and ingredients were the best. I had to bring half of my Godfather sandwich home with me as the portions are generous and excellent! Pricing very reasonable. Employees are really friendly.

The cheese puffs are so good. They have ricotta I think and taste like mini calzones. The sitting area in the back is nice but you kind of have to walk through the kitchen to get there.
