Himalayan tapas? Interesting menu, comfortable surroundings and decor, but very slow service when I visited on a Sunday afternoon. The food is reasonably good, however I am not familiar with this cuisine, so maybe not the best judge of this. The samosa chaat I tried was ok, but not so much to my taste. Worth further exploration of the menu however.

Great Nepalese Tapas place. Very polite waiter and service was top notch. They prepared everything fresh, we had Pani Puri, Jhol Momos and Chatpate (Chinese bhel style). Spice level was perfectly customized to our taste. Their tea is awesome. I highly recommend this place.

My girlfriend and I were staying Court yard mariott and were looking for a late night dinner. We found this small place on the corner of Polk and Post which was open until 1130pm. It's a very lively area, a good place to start or finish your night with some fun eats. The restaurant is Nepalese. We never had Nepalese food before, I would describe it in some ways similar to some Indian flavors. The menu, according to the owner is in transition. With some of the older dishes being removed or reworked. We tried the momo dumplings, chatpate which is a spicy, crunchy, mixture of noodles, cilantro, onions, and tomatoes. It's refreshing. We had the flat bread which in our head we thought would be like Naan bread but it was more like a pizza with cheese. It was good but we just ordered wrong. Finally we had the goat curry with white rice which was the best dish. That dish was excellent. The staff and service was excellent. We had a good conversation with the manager and the server made my girlfriend a great cocktail. The manager promised us some good menu changes when we come back. We love to support local, so good luck. $$

In our search for a delicious restaurant, we found what we were looking for here. At least that's what we thought. We ordered takki rice + tofu and chicken from the large platters. The service was friendly. Unfortunately, there was no more tofu in stock, so I only got mushrooms. I was also asked whether I wanted the food spicy or medium spicy. I ordered spicy. Unfortunately, the meals didn't come together. My food was brought first, about 15 minutes and when I was ready, my friend's food arrived. Too bad, as we actually wanted to eat together. A little tip: when people come together, they want to eat together. To make matters worse, my food wasn't spicy, it was sweet, and my salad didn't look fresh. Unfortunately, it wasn't a positive visit for me, so I wouldn't recommend it.

First time trying out Nepali food and it did not disappoint. All the dishes are 10 out 10! Delicious and tasty! My favorite the salmon kachilla and the ceviche. I fell in love with the carrot pudding dessert. Warm, sweet and cinnamon flavor. The specialty cocktails are amazing! The restart is very welcoming and cozy. I definitely recommend Piroo to everyone.

Love this new Nepalese restaurant in SF! First of all, I love that painting on their wall that shows their Nepalese x SF fusion. We got the Chicken and Salmon Choila Rice and it was so good! We also got $5 draft beers and fun soju cocktails. To end it off, we got some specialty summer cocktails that the owner made and ate a delicious carrot pudding dessert. Fun Fact: they have $2 oysters during Happy Hour!! You gotta check it out.

The food is good, and the hospitality even better. We came for a quick dinner, just a few dishes, but ended up meeting the lovely owner, had a really nice conversation with him, got a desert on the house and left with a nice memory. It was our first time in a Nepali restaurant, and if we lived in the city, we would definitely become frequent visitors.

This place had kinda cool ambience. It’s a tiny place with some table upstairs where we chose to get our spot. We started with chatpate which was preety good but had some very strong flavor. I was expecting a good quantity for that much of amount. Moving forward to momo Steam chicken momo wasn’t good enough to impress us. I could taste the smell of the meat as something was missing in the keema they had but pork one was obviously very good. That momo sauce accompanied very well with both those momos. Chicken Choila bowl came with rice ,Choila , mix green and cucumber salad. Choila was tasty and those chicken thigh meat were tender and good. But this fusion wasn’t my type I wished I didn’t mix everything at once as salad dressing sweetness and rice was a bit weird for me. Overall the experience was good and thumbs up for the owner who came with this idea of fusion food.

I'm mad I even spent money on this place. The food looks nothing like the photos that are from the business owner, when I told the waitress our food looks different she said that other restaurants might serve it differently & I had to tell her that I referred to the photos from their website. Terrible service, food was gross - rice had absolutely no taste. My friend and I ordered the same thing "tikka rice bowl" which says it comes with the meat, chutney, greens, and rice. We literally both got a bowl of what looked like meat in soup and a side of rice. No chutney and no salad. When I told her she ends up only bringing out one salad. I'm super confused where the good reviews are coming from.. going to assume they are under new owners or something. Definitely do not go here.

Cute place, a little bit of a hole in the wall . We came in for an early dinner Here is everything we ate: - lamb skewers thali was pretty good . Not super rich and the lamb was a bit burnt . 3.6/5 - chicken momos - excellent choice . I wish the sauce was a bit more creamy but the momos were very fresh and yummy 4.5/5 - samosa chat - pretty good . I wish they had a little bit more yogurt in that dish . 4/5 - They have no AC so the air was a bit stuffy and the tables are very dirty and sticky so be careful - that was not great The food was 4 stars , everything else was 3/3.5 so it's more of a total 3.5 stars review

This Nepali restaurant in Lower Nob Hill was cute, small, and gave family vibes while also serving decent Nepali tapas. They were super accommodating to vegan/vegetarian/dietary restrictions so I was glad. They had a lot of menu items not physically on the list and as we talked to the server she said they were cooking up chicken curry (also not on the menu), so I would def ask to see what other stuff they have too. The chicken curry was flavorful and tender. The chatepat was a little spicy but was also pretty good. The portions were all a bit small but nonetheless was still a decent place to eat. Would go here again.

Came in on a Thursday night around 515pm. It wasn't busy at all. I was the only one. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. Great service! After ordering, it took about 12 mins to get my order. Food was great. Their portions are perfect for sharing between 2 people. PANIPURI: Came with 8. You're supposed to put the Panipuri sauce inside of the dough balls and eat it in one bite. The sauce makes it pretty spicy yet bearable. It was easily my favorite. PORK MOMO: Came with 8. Filled with meat. I enjoyed this! SHRIMP STREET TACOS: Came with 8. Overall really good, but for the price of $15, I would expect bigger or more shrimp. There was probably 2 shrimp shopped up in one taco. I rated a 4 because I would like to see more variety. The menu was pretty limited. Also the prices are high for the quantity you receive. Other than that, the food was delicious!

I've never tried Nepalese food so this was a first! The menu is more tapas style, so the portions are smaller for sharing. There were a few items I recognized and wanted to try like Pani Puri and Momo, but a lot of dishes were more fusion like tacos and lettuce cups. My favorite dishes were probably the momo and chatpate! I'd pass on the tacos and ceviche next time. I think they were understaffed cause when we went the place got packed for dinner and there was only 1 server! So service was slow but don't blame her at all. Ambiance is a little run down but don't mind it. I appreciate the unique food, just was still hungry and the price of each smaller dish definitely added up.

Piroo is a Nepalese fusion restaurant on Polk St. I came here tonight for dinner and thought the menu had limited options (not many meat centered options) but it was pretty affordable. We ordered Chat, chicken momos, and the chicken rice plate. The chicken momo was my favorite item, it had great flavored filling that had a lot of meat in it. I also enjoyed the chat, was a great items to snack on as an appetizer. I thought the chicken rice plate was a little small. It did have nice flavor and spices without being spicy which I enjoyed. Overall nice small place to try if you like Nepalese food!

Ambiance: casual dining spot - pretty good if you're looking to go out last minute and need some yummy food without the wait or reservation hassle. Food: Panipuri [5/5]: really enjoyed this. It's slightly spicy and that tangy sauce really tied everything together well. Thin crunchy pastry stuffed with tasty potatoes. Pork Momo [4.5/5]: the server recommended this soupy and we really enjoyed it. Soup was creamy and tomatoey, hints of chili - really good comfort food. Papdi Chat [4/5]: i love chat so this was pretty good. Fresh and pretty light - it was good and what you'd expect from chat Shrimp choila rice bowl [3.5/5]: shrimp was fresh, also pretty good rice - nothing too special - it was yummy and pretty ordinary but good :)

After 5 hours of a long drive, I along with my friends decided to dine in here at Piroo. I have been here multiple times when it was newly opened with my friends and we always loved their food and cocktails (previous menu). However, this time everything was opposite. Let's start with our drinks, The 4 teas that we ordered were crazily watery with no taste. Chatpate was so-so, pani puri was not good as we felt the fillings were unfresh. Additionally, we had also ordered 1 veg jhol momo, 1 vegetarian thali, and 1 chicken thali. Thankfully we only ordered those at first. About MOMOS (0/10), it was so salty and the spices in the filling were so overpowering that it tasted bitter or weird. The jhol that it came with was not even a jhol that typically comes with jhol momo. VEG THALI (0/10) and even minus I guess, the presentation was already ugly, however, had it tasted at least better then there would be no complaints at all. Sadly, that was not it. All the items that were presented at the table, being a Nepali customer, we could tell that they were not fresh. Let's not talk about how it tasted because that was my first worst experience of veg thali in a restaurant. The same thing with the chicken thali, every other item was the same and the chicken curry that it came with was not worth it at all. My friends ate kinda half of it because they were starving. I could not even have one spoon. I complained about everything to the server. While she was not that helpful (obviously, was not her fault) the food came out that way. We ended up paying 90-100$ something with tips. Ps~ it was not about the money, but the overall experience and the food itself for which I would not even pay a $. No complaints about the service, but I would advise the owner either to change the chef or just stop the restaurant business cuz that place really felt like a joke. To top it off, even the Khir that came with Thali was a full packet of sugar...so sugary mannn...... Worst experience, never coming back, let alone recommending this place to anyone.

Very unique taste. I seem to be hooked so this is you being pre warned. It's very easy to fall in love with this palette of flavors it's truly unlike anything I have had and this price seems to be very far for what's offered. This is truly a diamond in the rough of lower Poke st regardless it's a good vibe in the restaurant and some times the owner plays music for a good vibe . I'm always trying something new so it earns 5 stars for just that.

Piroo seems to still be figuring it out. They brought our food out in a strange order (momos came last, after curry) and portion sizes were confusing - huge apps, small entrees. The staff was very kind and the favors are good. Definitely a good quick dinner but some room for improvement.

We arrived for our reservation and discovered that the restaurant was closed and could see through the windows that the interior was demolished!

I've walked past this restaurant a few times and it always smelled so good. The menu is small (which I like), but it definitely had some unique Indian dishes so I was a bit hesitant to try it. The dishes were primarily pescatarian or vegetarian, though there are 2 chicken items, which also deterred me since I prefer lamb when eating most Indian food. However, I finally bit the bullet and tried it out and I definitely recommend others try out this spot. Oysters were fresh and they come with both an oyster mignonette sauce and a spicy sauce. Love both. The panipuri as mentioned was crunchy and savoury from the potatoes. It's served room temp, so I would prefer if it was hotter like a samosa. Still very good though. Only dish not depicted that I didn't like was the Papdi Chaat. It's a unique dish with papdi (a type of slightly sweet cracker), yogurt, tamarind sauce, and dates? It was sprinkled with something crunchy, but I don't know what it was. I thought this dish would be a tad sweet from the tamarind, but overall, I thought it would be more refreshing like the yogurt dips in Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. But in general, this dish was too sweet. It's not quite sweet enough to be designated as a dessert, but definitely too sweet for me in terms of a lunch or dinner. I'm glad I tried it, but it's not to my taste, especially with the extra sweet dates. The choila chicken wrap actually the highlight. I tend to only chicken at restaurants if it's fried chicken. But this was so well-seasoned with hints of cumin and turmeric that added that smoky flavour, and the addition of onions and green onions made it fresh. I really like this dish and even plan to try and replicate it at home for lunch during the workweek. The waitress was incredibly kind and even comped the Papdi Chaat since I didn't like it. For drinks, I got their mango lassi and a $5 draft beer. Again, highly recommend to come to this new Indian spot for some drinks and unique dishes with friends or own your own.

Amazing Napalese Food! A great find along Polk St. My experience dining here was amazing! Went on a random Tuesday night, the place was fairly empty, but the owner greeted us right away and let us sit where ever we liked. We sat upstairs, table for 2, in the upper loft and it was so warming and cozy. Ambiance is not fancy or pretentious at all, but comfortable, clean and friendly. We got the Panipuri puffs with tamarind water (which is what I was craving) and is was so delicious! Got a side of yogurt to go with it, as suggested by the owner, and that added a nice sweet element to the dish. The chatpate was not my favorite (kind of a random mixed appetizer, and a bit too oniony for me) but the pork momos were amazing! It came with 10 momos and the dip and chili oil was so yummy. I also need to note that this place possibly has the best Chai in San Francisco! I love a good spicy and strong chia, and the chia here is amazing! I would come here just for the tea if I am ever walking around the area. I'm all about supporting local business and supporting smaller individually opened places like this, so please come here and eat their delicious food!

Ramro jhol chicken momo. Spicy sauce on top makes it even more tasty. Will definitely come for the pork next times and vegetable too.

My friend and I had a great dinner here. Excellent service and delicious food. We loved the dish with the tamarind sauce. We also loved the tea. Great prices too, affordable. We sat and talked for a while and the staff was very kind and brought us a second round of tea. I will definitely be back!

Friendly and attentive service (complimentary papads with chutney were served before we even ordered, yum), cosy interior with nice large windows (though I do want to try sitting in the loft next time ), and flavorful Himalayan food (which is pretty new to me, so I really enjoyed trying it)!! My parents and I ordered the vegetable curry, chicken momos, and daal bhat tarkari with lamb. Everything was pretty good, but in my opinion the standout dish was the vegetable curry of the day, which came with cauliflower, potatoes, and apparently mushrooms (I didn't notice any, but the owner mentioned them). It was super flavorful and comforting on a windy evening :) I also liked how thin the wrapper on the momos was, though they did take a while to come out so ended up eating them last (no big deal, but maybe something to keep in mind). The daal bhat dish came with a warm dessert (khserved last, as well, which was nice!

I appreciate the small menu that makes it easy to try a lot of things and not be overwhelmed by options, but even for tapas these portions were tiny and I left hungry. Not the best part of Polk, but was easy to get a table last minute and wasn't crowded.

It was my first time eating at Piroo and this food place is awesome! I was looking for a place to eat at after a long day at work and going to the gym and was able to find this spot on yelp. Overall, the food that I ordered was really good and the customer service was great! I will definitely come back to try out the pork momo and tacos next time!

Amazing new restaurant serving Nepalese fusion tapas in SF! The space is super cute and very inviting! This is my second time having Nepalese food, and I loved every single bite! Their Soju cocktails were super refreshing and not too sweet. :) They have an amazing happy hour for oysters for $2 each 4-6 M-Thursday! All of their food is made with great flavor and fresh ingredients. I 10/10 recommend coming here.

First time here. Great place for light flavorful dishes. The flavors are amazing. We tried every dish and we're impressed with them all. I recommend trying the Choila Bowl with shrimp.

Made a reservation. Restaurant was closed. Someone was inside painting the walls. Weird. Yelp and Google both indicated open.

I went with two other friends to try out this new place. Good aesthetic once you enter the restaurant. A great mix of tangy, sweet, fresh, and most importantly spicy (piroo) food. We tried Salmon Kachilla, PaniPuri, ChatPate, Ceviche, and Chicken Choila Bowl. They have a great selection of draft beers as well. Everything tasted great. The highlight of the menu has to be the fresh oysters. We could not try it because we had so much already. I have to come back for that next time. Definitely a must-try place.

Cute little Nepalese tapas place on Polk. A pretty small restaurant, but the servers are super attentive and very nice. We split four dishes between the four of us, which made me just full, but could have shared maybe one more dish. The chatpate and panipuri both had a kick!! I think the tamarind water was the spicy part, but you eat it in one bite and the flavor was delicious. The chatpate was like a nice rice salad and had a crunch due to the insta noodles sprinkled on top, but was more filling than I expected. The pork momos were nothing special, and the sauce didn't stick onto the skin well so taking some sauce in another bite worked well. We also got an order of chicken and shrimp tacos (one order has three tacos). You could taste the strong but sweet mango sauce on chicken tacos. I liked them better than the shrimp ones which had small sized shrimp, so when you bite, it's not as filing. Prices were pretty fair given the smaller portion sizes of each dish. I will come again when in the area to try some of the dishes I didn't get to try this time.

A delicious new addition to the famous Polk Street. A couple of my friends & I went here recently to try out some of their dishes & my goodness did they not disappoint. My first recommendation for this review is the chicken wrap & ChatPate. These meals are perfectly portioned for one however we did also order some options for sharing. The hibiscus soju cocktail is a must indulge, the syrup made from the plant was super refreshing & ideal summer delight. The next drink I recommend to try is their new Mango Lasse (overall rating 10 out of 10). Some of the foods are on the more mild to really spicy side, however if you pace yourself & eat slowly, you're really in for a treat in the herbs & sauces of this culture cuisine. Oyster happy hour: $2 oysters !!

My boyfriend and I had an early dinner here on a Saturday night. We met the owner, a very kind woman that gave us great recommendations. We had the Chat Pate, Pan Puri, pork Momo, and chicken tacos. Everything was delicious! It was a nice mix of flavors and textures. We came hungry and left full and happy!

Came here after reading about it in a list of best new SF restaurants - it's right on Polk on the edge of the tenderloin. Cute space with lots of seating including a lofted space, but pretty empty on a weekday evening. My friend and I are both vegetarian and decided to split the chatpate, pani puri, and momos. We also got the pirootini and summer in Nepal soju cocktails. I loved the pirootini - not too sweet with a lychee flavor, and my friend enjoyed the sweeter summer in Nepal with tajin rim. The chatpate came first and we thought it was interesting and unique but both felt it was on the dryer side and that we prefer bhel puri. Perhaps with a yogurt sauce or additional sauce it could be better? Next we had the pani puris that had a tamarind-ey sauce to put in them and were nice and spicy! The momos were good too, relatively standard. Next time might come for happy hour and try a jackfruit dish. Overall could use something to mediate the dry spice in most of the dishes but a nice unique meal!

1) loved the ambience; I wanted a place where I can relax, drink and also get some food as a side. And voila, Piroo is that place for me!! Really loved how creative concept they came up with. 2) don't forget to try their Soju cocktail, totally recommended. 3) oyster and their hot sauce; best combo!! I loved the concept of fusion of both part of worlds in their food. The chhoila wrap was another fav of mine and beetroot salad is equally yum!!

Happened upon this new restaurant while in "Lower Knob" area and decided to try it out - I was pleasantly surprised! The prices were great for SF, and the food was fresh and flavorful. The highlights of the meal for me were the beet salad, the mango lassi and the Choila chicken wraps. :)

Food is delicious! The service is so amazing. Definitely a must try in this area. I highly suggest their salmon dish!

The chicken momos had the best flavor of any I've had (though I'm not an expert by any means). If I still lived in the city I would come here regularly for the momos and some beers. I was a little unsure about the soju cocktails at first but they went pretty well with the food.

Showed up tonight around 8 on a Friday. Completely shut up. Why? Oh well. Can't comment on food or service.

Stopped by for a quick bite and ordered the ChatPate and it was so tasty. Definite street food vibe and perfectly seasoned. Charming vibe inside with street side seating and a lofted area too. I would definitely go back try more off the menu.

What a cute little place in Polk street! The menu is limited and is tapas style but the portions are considerable for that. We ordered some chicken momos, and a jackfruit choila rice bowl. The food was really good-loved the beet infused chicken momo wraps, the momos were perfectly sized, flavorful and juicy. The jackfruit rice bowl was really great as well, perfectly spiced and unique. Run by a two person team when we were there. Service was attentive but is more fast casual. We will be back!

I have always enjoyed myself eating at Piroo. I've really grown to love it. Chicken Tacos were fantastic.

Love this little place on Polk. Momos and panipuri are must haves. Ceviche and fish tacos also delicious. Fast and friendly service, and we were seated right away. Vibe was cozy, and was a grat setting for catching up with friends. Wines by the glass were a little pricey, but hey, guess it's San Francisco.

Never ever go this place , when I see online the reviews looking great so I went this restaurant and I inter this place no hello hi at all, the service is so bad and food is worsted ever had in my life , i Oder chicken momo it was uncooked they gave me, and when I said this is not cook but the service girl said this is like this. I said to her do I look stupid that I don't know between cook and uncooked momos , very bad service, so I'm not recommending for this place ,

Really delightful. We went in for a light meal around 9 pm. So many places close at 9, so we were pleased to see Piroo stays open late. The service was excellent: efficient and friendly. The draft beer list great; some favorites and some new things to try. For food, we opted for the chatpate, the panipuris, and the vegetable momos, and thoroughly enjoyed all three dishes. (If you like spicy food, try the chat or panis or both.) It's not a long menu, but it is well curated so as to have attractive items for everyone: from vegans through pescatarians to meat eaters.

Not sure why this place wasn't more crowded on a Friday night, it certainl deserves the traffic! I had the pork momos, Panipuri, Choila chicken rice bowl and ceviche - everything was delicious and our waiter was very kind as well. Will definitely be coming back!

So happy we came to Piroo for authentic Nepalese street food and unique dishes I haven't seen in other restaurants. My favorite dishes were the Chicken Choila Rice Bowl, which had tender chunks of marinated chicken with just the right amount of spice and the PaniPuri puff balls w/potato filling that you fill with flavored water and tasted similar to samosas. The vegetarian JackFruit Choila Rice Bowl was also tasty and tasted almost like meat. For drinks, we had a refreshing raspberry lemonade, virgin mojito and a delicious mango lassi. For dessert I highly recommend the Gajar Halva, made with carrots, sugar, cardamom and milk.

What a gem! My friend and I wandered in for a drink and the first thing you notice when you walk in is the delicious aroma of toasted spices. The owner is so welcoming. The whole experience was fantastic. I will definitely go back to try everything on the menu.

Honestly one of the best meals I have ever had! The complexity of the flavors and uniqueness of the dishes were out of this world. It's a quaint and beautiful little spot that is still coming together. But the friendliness and hospitality of everyone involved was so heart felt. The food was the perfect amount of spicy to bite you hard but melt into the flavors of the food on the back end. Very balanced and priced perfectly for the quality. This is a must for unique world cuisine from Nepal.

i've been here sm times and this was my fav place to come even tho it's so far from me, but last time i came here the menu was dirty, and the servers were not very professional at all. the server dipped the spoon in my food instead of putting it on the table, which was so not it... i also got my stomach upset after eating their pork momo. it tasted like it was not freshly prepared. this used to be one of my faves, but due to the latest experience, ill prob not come back

I stop by for a beer and oysters on Tuesday. It was me and a friend and we both enjoyed the food and the ambience. The owners seems to be working at the restaurant. They were very helpful with making suggestions For food and beer. My favorite was the chicken choila plate. My friend liked the shrimp ceviche. If you like spicy don't forget to ask for their special hot sauce.

Great staff, location is perfect!!! Also food is amazing, everything is tapas so able to serve one to two people. Staff are great at advising what to get.

From the delicious food to the services, everything was exceptional especially if you like a kick to your tastebuds. My favorites were the Jackfruit Choila Bowl (gluten free) and the Ceviche. Also the mango Soju was so refreshing . Highly recommended to anyone with a gluten free diet.
