Pistachio & Pickle Dairy - Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

"Pistachio & Pickle Dairy is retail therapy for those who browse country cottages on Rightmove. The Islington cheese shop is charming—from the cobbled Camden Passage street it sits on, to the higgeldy-piggeldy steps leading to a well-loved seating area upstairs, to the toasties served on wooden boards that could double as a hobbit’s front door. Downstairs there’s a big fridge full of cheeses, chutneys, and pickled bits that all fall under the category of ‘fancy picky bits for tea’. Fill a bag with Baron Bigod and chilli jam, but don’t leave without a toastie. Oozy, with a satisfying blend of cheeses that tick all the right tangy, stretchy boxes, it’s one of the best in London. If you can, eat yours upstairs. It’s a stripped-back space, but these toasties are best fresh from the grill. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Food Rundown photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch The Classic Grilled Cheese Toastie What ails you? It doesn’t matter, this toastie is the answer. The bread to cheese ratio is 1:3, there are lots of crispy, almost-burnt-but-not bits, and the finely sliced spring onions are a lovely touch. The cheese is a mix of mature cheddar and Red Leicester. It’s not too fancy or messed around with, and it’s so much better than anything our George Foreman has produced." - Sinéad Cranna

All the Best Places to Eat Cheese in London, from Raclette to Fondue | Eater London

"Islington was once London’s dairy district, counting around 170 dairy retailers in the 19th century that supplied the city with milk and its derivatives. Though little remains of the former glory days, neighbourhood darlings Pistachio and Pickle are flying Islington’s dairy flag today. It started out as an underground supper club, catching the attention of the Evening Standard and eventually setting up shop permanently — in a coffee bar and deli on Liverpool Road and a cheesemonger in Camden Passage. The former serves Monmouth coffee and a pleasing menu of cakes, pastries, salads, soups and sandwiches, of which the grilled cheese is, naturally, the most formidable. the latter stocks 70-odd predominantly British varieties of cheese, with accoutrements including as fresh bread, relishes and crackers, wines, sherries and ports. Grilled cheese sandwiches are served throughout the day, and on weekends the first floor parlour opens to wine and cheese lovers, of which there are plenty in the neighbourhood." - Daria Kyrilova

Delicious cheese toasties here, overflowing with melted cheese from the dairy and cooked to perfection. Top points for the latte that was made perfectly as well. Plus it's in a cute little laneway, pretty happening with a lot of good things to see and eat. Highly recommend.

Amazing grilled cheese toastie! Tried the chili jam with ham and the ploughman with ham, both delicious, and owner super nice and smiling.

I’ve been coming to this place for years, it easily beats any other cheese toastie I have had anywhere… probably in the world! Although there is a wait for the toastie, remember good things come to those who wait 👍

We stopped in for our first cheese toastie ever, and man, did this place set a high bar! Make sure you have plenty of time, because they will take a bit to melt, but it is worth the wait for sure! They load these up with cheese, spring onion, and your choice of additional fillings. We went with one ploughman and one sweet onion, both with ham. They were so good we couldn't stop talking about them long after we left. The bread was excellent, there was plenty of crispy cheese bits, the additional fillings were present, and complemented the cheeses perfectly. The coffee was also quite good. There's a small eating area upstairs where we were able to watch the street while enjoying our sandwiches. The gentleman behind the counter was very kind and welcoming. If we lived here, we'd become regulars. :)

Second visit .... rarely in London. First time was so good so we returned. The best toasted cheese and chilli jam sandwich ever made. Seeing is believing. Tasting is amazing. Recommended without hesitation.

Amazing cheese toastie!! We had the chilli jam toastie and it was diviiiine. So gooey and full of flavour! I can’t wait to go back and try the other ones! To note: it is one of those places that charge more to eat in, so we ate it at a park nearby :)

Probably the best cheese toastie I've ever eaten which I consider to be high praise coming from someone who loves cheese! As you can see from the photo the amount of filling in the toastie is substantial and it was toasted to perfection with crispy edges and bits of toasted cheese crisped onto the bread (the best bit!). I ordered the red onion chutney toastie which was delicious. Also tried the chilli one which had a nice subtle kick and was also good. I've read reviews saying service is slow - it wasn't the quickest but I didn't see this as a problem at all. Unless you're in a rush, relax and enjoy the pretty cobbled streets while you're waiting!

The most wonderful dairy with a marvellous selection of artisan and award winning cheeses. Also the most amazing cheese toasties, the best I've ever eaten. Highly recommend.
