Pit Burger - Review - Gardena - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"You know you're near a great burger spot when you can smell the patties charring on the grill from several blocks away. Pit Burger in Gardena is exactly that kind of place: an old-school stand with a few tables that opened in the 1960s and probably hasn’t changed a single piece of decor since. The backyard-cookout-esque cheeseburger here is excellent, but almost everyone orders the teriyaki burger, which isn’t actually a burger at all, but char-grilled teriyaki beef piled on a butter-toasted bun with shredded lettuce and mayo. Somehow it works, probably because their just-sweet-enough teriyaki sauce would make shoe leather taste amazing. If you want something heftier, go for the massive teriyaki plate, which comes with a mound of sticky white rice, a salad with Thousand Island and pickles, and a tasty toasted bun. No matter how hungry you are, there will be leftovers." - Garrett Snyder

The 15 Best Chili Dogs in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Pit Burger is a Gardena classic, the kind of fast food diner that every neighborhood in Los Angeles loves. The chili dog here competes with burgers and teriyaki plates, but locals still fine room for it in their diet." - Farley Elliott

Google
I have been coming to Pitt Burger for 30 years, lived 2 doors down on 166th. And what's cool about Pitt Burger? The once cook 30 years ago, is now the owner and still cooking :) The food and taste is absolutely unreal. And I hope to keep coming for the next 30 years. #doublechickenplate

Google
To be absolutely honest, I got a double teriyaki burger and fries. It is the best thing I have got in a while. Great sizes, and absolutely no complaints. I would recommend anyone and everyone and will definitely return. Friendly, courteous service. The fries are great, the food is fresh.

Google
Some of the best teryaki i always feel great after ordering a chicken and beef combo but they forget my pickle every time make sure you make a reservation and bring cash

Google
This place is really good. 1st time at this place. Have driven by this place many times. Menu is very simple. Plates are very generously portioned and sauced meat. You get a toasted hamburger bun as a sided bread it's good. Customer service was good as well. The hamburgers are good as well however the meat patties are thin Incase your a super meat lover you might want to add a patty or two. Will be returning.

Google
Probably not the popular review, but my family ordered the teriyaki beef, combo, and chicken. The beef was super chewy and tough. Chicken seemed very dry. We were very excited to try this spot out but was disappointed 😞

Google
I used to live a couple of blocks over and now live in Irvine and still get that urgh and make the drive. I have been coming here my entire life. I even had an Uncle and an Auntie work here when they were young. The food is all good and the staff are good people.

Google
Pit Burger was delicious- teriyaki plate came with shredded lettuce topped with 1000 island and a pickle and a toasted bun. It was a lot of food for $13. Good sauce to chicken ratio and the chicken was tender and not dry. Waited about 15-20 minutes for my food so I second other reviews where they advise to call ahead.

Google
Was in the area so wanted to try Pitburger since its been a Gardena staple for so long. Cash and take out only, ordered a single Teri Burger and waited for a bit. Wasnt dissapointed when i opened it up. The meat wasnt grissled, perfect ratio to meat and bun. Ample napkins since its a bit messy with the Teriyaki sauce and mayo melded together. Apart from the non emotional cashier and standing around outside on the street, id go again if in the area🤙🤙

Yelp
The best teriyaki burger I've ever had! You can call ahead and order pickup, or you can go to the physical stand (no seating available) and order there. The stand itself looks a little rough around the edges but the food was so good. We ordered a single teriyaki burger ($5.25 + tax) and a beef combo teriyaki dinner plate (meat, rice, salad and bread, $14.90+tax). The single teriyaki burger came with 2 slabs of teriyaki beef that was surprisingly chewy (in a good way). Our friend ordered the double teriyaki burger ($9.25 + tax) which came with 4 slabs of teriyaki beef; but I think the single teriyaki burger is perfectly balanced with the bun and lettuce. The portions are huge. If you get either the teriyaki dinner plate or teriyaki bowls -- you can definitely split it between 2-3 people and still feel full. It's such a great bang for your buck.

Yelp
Admittedly, today's visit was my first visit in over 40 years! I used to pick up lunch or dinner from Pit Burger when I lived closer to Pit Burger and always enjoyed their food. I ordered a teriyaki chicken burger and chili cheese fries, so yummylicious, but the teriyaki chicken burger got a bit messy. One will need a lot of napkins when wolfing down this sandwich. The chili cheese fries were tasty & the chili is very mild. I would've preferred a bit spicier chili. Pit Burger stand apparently has gone unchanged since my last visit, except for the menu and prices. Unfortunately, only one beverage is available for purchase and no bottled water, which is the only downside I can think of. Also, cash is king at Pit Burger, no credit cards accepted. Overall, I am pleased with my visit to Pit Burger. Will I return in another 40 years? Most likely sooner than 40 years Oh, I ordered a single size of teriyaki chicken plate to take home for my dinner tonight.

Yelp
I heard about this place from family and decided to give it a try. I ordered the plate combo with extra bread since I was sharing it with someone else, and it was definitely enough for two. The combo included chicken, beef, rice, and salad, with two slices of bread. I paid extra for an additional slice, but honestly, it wasn't worth it. The extra bread was just a grilled hamburger bun, so I ended up with a top and bottom burger bun, which was a bit disappointing--I was expecting something more like a Hawaiian roll. The food was good, and the plate was generously packed. I particularly enjoyed the sauce; it wasn't too sweet or thick, which was a nice touch. The location is primarily for pick-up, which worked fine for me since I planned to take it home anyway. Considering the portion size, the price is fair. I'm curious to try the burger next time, but it seems like they're best known for their teriyaki bowls. The meat was a little tough, but since it was charbroiled, that makes sense, and I still enjoyed it overall. The location gives of a local ambience definitely saw some people who knew each other greet one another it's for sure a hidden gem.

Yelp
This is such a hidden gem it's a great spot for a quick and comforting bite. It is a cash only place though so keep that in mind. It's also easier to call ahead and order to cut down the wait. There is plenty of parking as well. The food itself was all at least 4/5. I've been craving chili cheese fries and these definitely hit the spot even though they forgot the onion we asked for. The teriyaki bowl was good and a good portion too. The teriyaki burger was really good and flavorful, but messy to eat because of all the sauce I almost wish it had less. Overall, the food is definitely worth coming back for!

Yelp
I learned about this place from a Youtube video and had to check it out. Here's what we ordered... Teriyaki chicken plate with double chicken: Very good Double cheeseburger: Good Chili cheese fries with onions: Loved it I agree with other reviewers about the teriyaki sauce. It is better than average. I don't eat this type of food very often, but definitely will be back in the future. The total for the 3 items was $32 and change. And yes, it's cash only.
google avatar

Eddie D.

Yelp
This beloved establishment has been a local favorite for over 50 years. Due to its popularity, lines can be long, especially during lunchtime, so it's best to call your order ahead. Fortunately, there is ample parking available. Upon arrival, you're greeted by the enticing aroma of the grill. I tried the beef and chicken teriyaki plate served on a bed of rice with pickles. The grilled flavor was prominent, and the teriyaki sauce struck a perfect balance, not overly sweet. However, the true standout is the double teriyaki cheeseburger! With two thin charbroiled beef patties, melted cheese, and savory teriyaki sauce, it's easy to see why this place has such a devoted local following.

Yelp
After passing by Pit Burger for over the years, I finally decided to give them a try. I always thought they were closed since I never saw anyone there. The place is located up the street from Sam's club, and the idea of charbroil teriyaki always sounded good. It wasn't until I saw a review on Instagram that I realized it was the same spot I had been curious about. My daughter and I visited on a Sunday afternoon. We debated between the teriyaki burger and the combo plate that included a roll, salad, and both beef and chicken teriyaki. I opted for the combo plate. A sweet customer recommended I come back to try their chili rice and their famous teriyaki burger. Food: Chicken and Beef Combo Plate: 4/5 I loved the rice, the veggies, the roll, and the balance of the teriyaki sauce, which wasn't overly sweet like most. Beverage: They also serve Bang juices here. It reminded me of my teenage years when I loved mixing orange Bang with piña colada Bang, though you need extra ice to keep it cold. I might try it again next time. Service: Friendly and welcoming. Cleanliness: The parking lot and surrounding areas were very clean. They have a private parking lot which isn't visible from Normandie. I would definitely recommend this spot, especially when craving teriyaki. It's great that it's located not too far from me.

Candi R.

Yelp
I have been eating here since I was a teen. This place is so authentic and the prices are reasonable. I ordered a mini beef teriyaki bowl and an orange bang for under 10 dollar where can you buy that at now in days !!!! The service is fast and always EFFICIENT! Not sure if they let you side inside many years ago you could but im not sure if you can any more it's very small in there. The restaurant is mostly a To-Go spot and everyone respects that! CASH ONLY BTW
google avatar

Anthony R P.

Yelp
To go only no seating anywhere. Cash only Burger was tasty. Charbroiled. Fresh soft sesame seeds bun.I got chili cheese onion rings. Onion rings were ok. The chili was really good. Meaty. Tangy.

Yelp
10 out of 10 would recommend. Total hole in the wall, nothing glamorous, but the food speaks for itself. And it's been here since 1966! We got a double teriyaki burger and a cheeseburger and asked them to cut it in half so we could share. And an orange bang! It was such a great combo -- My boyfriend said "it's the best cheeseburger I've ever had from a mom and pop place! It literally taste like my mom made a burger back in the day on the grill during the summer!" And about the double teriyaki burger: "It slaps the meat is great and the sauce is genuinely the best teriyaki sauce I've had -- it doesn't have anything too crazy going on. It's just straight to the point with its flavor. Recommend getting a triple every time." No frills, awesome food.
google avatar

Junior N.

Yelp
If you want homemade Teri beef, come to Pit Burger. It's a no frills hole-in-the-wall take-out that's been around a long time. They have Teri bowl with thin sliced rib eye beef or chicken over rice or a plate that comes with choice of Teri and a cabbage salad and toast. Sizes are single, double or triple and you can get the plate with a combo beef and chicken. Their Teri burgers are a delicious item. It has the thin sliced char grilled rib eye, with Teri sauce, lettuce and Mayo on a toasted bun, comes in single, double or triple. They also have some tasty chili for chili fries, chili over rice with a weiner or chili dog. Corn dogs, onion rings and fries are also very good.

Yelp
I used to eat here all the time when I lived and worked in the area 50 years ago. Drove all the way here from the O.C. To reminisce and see if it was still as I remembered. It still looks the same and still tastes good. Cash only. To go only. Ate in my car. Will come back again some day.
google avatar

chad b.

Yelp
First timer. The portion is enough to feed at least 2 maybe even 4 depending on appetite. The grilled flavor was on point, I like a little extra sauce but if you don't make sure you let them know. The bread is dangerously fire, order an extra piece. The only downside is they are a cash only business which is inconvenient especially these days so I had to run to the atm, they will need to change that soon because we going to be a cashless society by the end of the year.
google avatar

Laura T.

Yelp
Great little local place. Their food always hits the spot. Everyone here is absolutely amazing. Friendly and welcoming. Quick service for a great price. We get the combo plate with teriyaki chicken and beef - delicious! My husband gets the chili and a side of rice. He says some of the best he has had.
google avatar

Ariana F.

Yelp
We tried the combo plate with chicken teriyaki and beef, as well as the teriyaki burger and onion rings. Of those things, we would prob only get the chicken teriyaki and onion rings again. Surprisingly, did not enjoy the teriyaki burger! The "burger" is made with thin chuck steaks. I could not take a bite without ripping the entire steak out of the bun. It just wasn't tender and was a bit of a chore to eat, especially for a "burger" when you expect to take one bite at a time. Overall, we would still come back for the price and the chicken teriyaki! No indoor seating, and cash only. Service was fairly quick on a Friday night around 7PM. Plan to take it to-go or eat in your car!
google avatar

Sophie M.

Yelp
I kept hearing how good their teriyaki burgers are, so I had to try it for myself. -- Overall rating 8/10 *** To go only & they only accept cash *** The beef is flavorful and juicy. It is very messy to eat but still enjoyable. Not bad prices for their food. I did order a double teriyaki burger and a single but they both looked the exact same.
google avatar

Kylie O.

Yelp
Pitburger is definitely if you know, you know type of place! Such a local fave and always a go-to for dinner. Food: 5/5 I usually get the beef teriyaki plate. Comes with sweet teriyaki, cabbage salad, butter toast (MY FAVE), and rice. Service: 5/5 No complaints. Always great. Ambiance: 3/5 Needs some updating which may turn away a lot of people. To go only.

Yelp
Was painting a house out in the Area and found this little Gem on Yelp!! Needed Lunch for me and my friends and decided to give it a try. The Service was great and they were very welcoming. I had the Chili Bowl and boy was it delicious. My friends ordered Cheeseburger Combos and literally told me they were the best Cheeseburger they've had in a long time. Definitely gonna find my way back to this spot soon!! I'll post pictures next time around. Thank you Pitburger for coming through with the lunch
google avatar

Yelp
Best damn Teriyaki Burger and rice plates EVER! Hands down. We drive from Long Beach to have this at least once a month. Has been a staple in my family since 1970's!
google avatar

Erin T.

Yelp
When you drive down the street with the windows down and smell that sweet teriyaki, you KNOW it's Pitburger!! Have been coming here for years now & the plates are always consistently so delicious. My favorite is the teriyaki beef plate. It comes with teriyaki beef, rice, a cabbage salad with a thousand island dressing, and a toasted bun. I highly recommend their chili cheese fries too. Generous portions and so tasty!!
google avatar

Kenya J.

Yelp
Always delicious. I have only ordered the chicken teriyaki plate. The buttered hamburger bun seals the deal!
google avatar

Joel W.

Yelp
The teriyaki burger is fantastic. It's a bit of a drive from ktown but worth it. The service was friendly and it's right of a main road.
google avatar

LadyLoops L.

Yelp
Found this spot because I had left the gym and I was stuck in heavy 110 traffic and I was famished , yelped teriyaki and I did miss this spot , it's on the north east corner , seems like a bit of construction is going on, the combo beef and chicken plate has massive amounts of protein, not one single person SHOULD eat this in one sitting or by themselves, it's humongous. Tasted like your mom and pop basic teriyaki joint food , good and above all fresh , comes with some slaw with thousand island and a random buttered burger bun . You can definitely feed 3-4 females or kids with one plate
google avatar

Ted H.

Yelp
My 49th year and 17,539th visit Double Teri burger, fries and a large orange whip. Yes they sell chili rice, chicken or beef teriyaki plates dogs, weiners & chili, etc.... but the go to is the go-to. GOD I NEED THIS. Please don't ever change, Pit Burger, I love you. Don't look at me that way people!
google avatar

Chris V.

Yelp
Best teriyaki in the world! Have been coming here for 40 years. Live in Texas now and make a visit each time I come home for Christmas

Rafael F.

Yelp
The Teriyaki plate is a very large plate. With plenty of meat teriyaki sauce and rice. The cabbage salad is a nice touch.
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
Pitburger was brought to my attention by one of my besties. While in the area I had a chance to check this burger shack out. Popular best seller: Teriyaki Plate and Teriyaki Burger. Got the Teriyaki combo plate and it was yummy! Perfectly cooked rice (not soggy), good sauce (not cloyingly sweet), CHAR GRILLED MEATS with nice smoky favors! An above average teriyaki plate at a total hole-in-the-wall shack! Love it!
google avatar

Ralph H.

Yelp
At first sight this place looks, average, but once you order and try it you quickly find out that they really put effort into what they offer. I have mostly had their teriyaki plates and onion rings at most but all of the have been great! I love that they are super close to me and open often. The staff has always been really nice and detailed on giving me information and helping decide. Their prices are great and very fair. I would highly recommend stopping by and visiting this location. I will be back soon!

Zzanggu H.

Yelp
Please think guys, look at yhe menu they said price +"tax". Why this guys receive the tax? With "cash only"... it is nasty
google avatar

Frankie D.

Yelp
I've been eating here when I was in high school. The flavor hasn't changed and the new owners kept it that way.
google avatar

Carlos B.

Yelp
Worst place I ever eaten at my burger was burnt the meat is paper thin ... fries are so thin too with no salt don't go here
google avatar

Jorge G.

Yelp
I tried it for the First time Today ,went to get the Famous Double teriyaki cheeseburger . I jumped on the freeway home and I took a bite and they didn't even put any cheese!!!! What a bummer

Yelp
Secret Menu Alert get the Large Combo Rice Bowl with Beef AND Chicken together for $14.50 all-in w/ tac. not features on their posted menu. The portions can make for 2-3 meals too, or one hungry person Pitburger is my G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All-Time) Teriyaki Beef joint because it's FRESH not some lame steam tray / heat lamp styled supply of meats kept warm that end up overcooking and drying out. I request my beef medium rare and they make it perfectly moist, tender and juicy. The meat quality has minimal fat like a well trimmed rib eye and no chewy gristle tough type cartilage , and is chopped so it's bite sized with no knife needed nor tugging or chewing excessively on a big piece of beef. The hamburger and teriyaki burger (uses the same beef as with the dinner plate and rice bowl) are good foo. The service is fast and friendly. Parking is easy. They open at 9am and close at 8:30pm. That 9am opening time is awesome for being able to get an early lunch ora breakfast craving of a hearty meal. FYI - Be Prepared It's CASH ONLY so don't come hungry with a credit card or a check or thinking you're hip with your Apple Pay, Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, BitCoin or any electronic assets. Yelp
I recently tried Pit Burger, a fantastic teriyaki business, and I was thoroughly impressed. The food was delicious and freshly prepared, with a perfect balance of flavors in their teriyaki dishes. The service was excellent too, with friendly staff who ensured a pleasant experience. I highly recommend Pit Burger for anyone craving delicious teriyaki packed with flavor and authenticity! It's a cash only business just to add.
google avatar

Big Steph D.

Yelp
Chicken teriyaki plate was awesome, big portions. The teriyaki sandwich was full or flavor and burgers were also. You all have a winning combination of foods. Took me long enough to try it but I am definitely a fan.
google avatar

Adrian A.

Yelp
Damn! no wonder this place has been around :) So whenever I go to work, I passed by this food joint and I'm really curious to try it.. and I did! This food joint is Cash Only, so be aware of that, but still great! The ambiance looks like a rundown, local, urban stops and I love it :) My Yelp Tips: The best food are the one you see in these classic OG places, which checks in every categories. The employees that work here are friendly as you can get.. I like their customer service because it is fast and efficient.. they want to get your food asap without missing any details.. I love it! They have one of the best teriyaki sandwich I ever had.. hands down! I ordered their triple stack teriyaki burger, which is just a massive hunk of glazed meat inside a buttered Hamburger bun. On the first look, I thought the sandwich will eat me and not the other way around lol. They do not play around this teriyaki joint.. the meat is so char and its edges are just damn crispy. The sauce is slab all over the sandwich.. Just like a teriyaki sloppy joe.. sooooo good! Overall, if you hate your diet and depress about life.. come here cause damn this is the best teriyaki joint in Gardena :)
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
Perfect spot to go when around the area ! Food is delicious! Just call before going it will save you time but overall it is a MUST try ! Shoutout PITBURGER !!

Yelp
Been going here since high school. Always love eating here. Service is quick. Food is good. I just get the hot dogs and chili plate with the Teri ... can't go wrong there.
google avatar

Ali R.

Yelp
My daughter and I came here after a recommendation from a food blogger, we don't live in the area so we made the trip just to try it out. 1. Ambience or decor was nice you can tell it's been around for a while, has that old school feel. No place to sit down and cash only as others have already stated overall no big deal take your food and go. We ordered ahead of time so no long wait. Customer service was good. 2. Cost - we bought a double portion of the chicken and beef combo with extra toast, teriyaki burger and onion rings and extra sauce on the side. Our total was 27:49 which was pretty reasonable for what we ordered. I would like to add the portions didn't really look like a double more like a single 3. Food - let's start with the famous teriyaki burger. Overall it was mid I'd say 5 out of 10, the meat was pretty dry not much teriyaki sauce. It didn't blow us away but it was better than the combo plate. The combo plate was ok the extra sauce was definitely needed as there wasn't enough sauce. I'd give it a 4 out of 10. The onion rings were below average so much so I almost forgot to mention them. 4. Overall if I'm in the area I'd give the teriyaki burger another shot, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

G H.

Yelp
Poor quality food. Too expensive. Small portions. Go to rascals if you want a teriyaki burger.

Michael W.

Yelp
It's been there a long time. Pretty good food at reasonable prices. I used to go there when I was a kid, so there is some nostalgia connected with it.
google avatar

Aiko M.

Yelp
I love, love, LOVE this place! I've been coming here since I was literally in diapers; I grew up half a block away. When I turned 5, I started calling in orders and walking over (heh- can you imagine a kid walking anywhere solo these days?!) I am so thrilled to report that the teriyaki is still the same quality and flavor as always. Cool random tidbit: the same guy works here and remembers me and my family. He's watched me grow up, then move away, and I even once brought a boyfriend and introduced him! Anyway, the char on the beef is amazing, the sauce a bit sweet and the bun is still smooshy (the oil they grill it with is different but that's minor). Overall, this place is absolutely worth the drive and you come just for the food, not the ambience or decor. I will admit, this shack has always been a bit grungy, and even if the dining room was open, you would not want to eat here or touch anything. Pros: - very inexpensive - huge portions - quality meats - teri burger! Cons: - not enough garbage cans in parking lot/always overflowing (yes, you should just stay and eat in your car!) - dingy/ dated building
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Lately have been coming for the burgers! Their teriyaki reigns supreme but don't forget their fresh burgers which are cooked to order and super yummy! Still CASH ONLY
google avatar

Denny L.

Yelp
Got the Teriyaki Burger and it was tasted good. The meat was well cooked with plenty of flavor, but a bit tough on the chewy side. Just be careful of the teriyaki sauce, it is watery. Make sure you have plenty of napkins. Chili cheese fries was ok. It taste the same just like any other chili cheese fries.

Frank T.

Yelp
Very tasty Teriyaki Their sauce is unique. Intend to try their Hot Dogs soon. Awesome burgers and sandwiches.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
Hard to go wrong the Pitburger. It's literally a little shack doling out delicious burgers and teriyaki bowls, so you know you can't go wrong. Cash only and no ATM. However, there's an ATM at a liquor store across the street if you're desperate (I was). I got the teriyaki chicken bowl, but instead of rice asked for fries...and they did it and it was pretty amazing. What a delightful bowl with plenty of chicken, a side salad, toast and crispy fries. It took all the Sunday scaries away. I loved it. It took awhile for them to finish making my meal, but the wait was well worth it. The food survived a good 18 minute drive back without losing its crisp and freshness, which is always a plus when getting take out. Recommended. I'll have to come back and get a legit burger.
google avatar

Andre T.

Yelp
Finally checked Pitburger out after living only a couple blocks away. They are located on the corner of Normandie & 166th. There is plenty of parking in their lot. They are CASH ONLY. I ordered the Beef & Chicken Combo - $13.20 + tax. The beef was better than the chicken. It came with half a hamburger bun and salad with a thousand island dressing? It was a pretty big portion too. I ended up saving half to eat later. I gave it 4/5 stars because it is a little pricey for teriyaki. I do want to come back and try the hamburgers which they are also known for.
google avatar

Fredo O.

Yelp
Gardena staple for teriyaki beef and chicken. Rice bowl. Rice plates with a buttered bun pickle and coleslaw. Teri Burger w mayo, lettuce, teriyaki beef and sauce. It's addicting. A MUST TRY!

Kamill B.

Yelp
Chicken n beef teriyaki is . They only take cash so make sure u have some before you go. They're very fast, and the service is great.
