Pizza Brutta

Pizzas made fresh, vibe was cool, and location ideal if you’re on campus. But the flavor itself was super mid. Just tasted like a bunch of everything and didn’t have anything to write home about. Pizza crust was soggy in the middle and everything just slid off. Glad I tried this place but definitely down to try somewhere else out first.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I was really disappointed with my recent order from Pizza Brutta. I got a pizza bianca with prosciutto and arugula, and while I never expect a dish to look exactly like the menu photo, mine came with barely any prosciutto or arugula at all. On top of that, the crust was overdone, burnt and very hard, which really took away from the Neapolitan-style experience I was looking forward to. I was genuinely excited to try this place because I love Neapolitan pizza, but this ended up being a letdown. Maybe it was just a busy day, but being busy isn’t an excuse for letting the quality slip this much. This experience definitely wasn’t what I hoped for.

Liked their freash clay-oven made pizza. Ordered Nostrano (with sausage and basil). Roasted Tomato tasted very fresh. Crust was soft, had to use fork 😆. Price range was good one full size pizza was for 15$. Going back soon to try some other pizza. Booth sitting and table sittinga are available. Parking is bit problematic, gotta find road side parking near by.

Ordered the garlic cheese bread, Margherita with bufala and a Margherita with bufala & prosciutto. The garlic cheese bread was fantastic! Fresh thin sliced garlic pieces...crusty thin crust....wow. Both of the Margherita pizzas were good but the crust was a bit soggy. Could not just pick up a piece and eat it as it was like a limp noodle. Staff was ok & they were all friendly. All tables were full with guests, but there were 4 tables that needed to be bussed.

One of the best pizzas I’ve ever had — easily top 3. Fresh ingredients, incredible flavor, and amazingly affordable. I came here 10 years ago and it still tastes just as great. The interior is simple and unchanged, and it doesn’t need to be — the food speaks for itself. A true Madison gem!

Great pizza, fast and good taste, well cooked. We enjoyed the margarita, carbonara and arrabiatta. Beer was local and goos taste Shaghorn.

Best pizza in Madison. My husband and I get pizza here at least twice a week. We tend to order par-baked. Even our toddler loves it!

Tried the Maui wowie pizza and chopped salad. The pizza was good but they pineapple was old. Salad was nice. No parking but garage across the street.

Pizza is absolutely AMAZING! We both had a margherita with additional toppings and all of it was delicious! The mozzarella is the ultimate cheese pull and the basil is fresh and full of flavor. Also tried the Caesar salad and it was perfect. Wish we lived closer because this is a definite must have.

New favorite. Too tired with the baby on the way to write a long review but veryyyyy good. We've been getting takeout here a lot lately and have had at least like, 8 different pizzas, all YUMMY. Very happy mommy and baby. (And daddy, too ) Crust is chewy, not too thick, sauce is just the right amount of chunky, ingredients are fresh overall. I'm not sure if I'll ever order from another pizza place in Madison ever again. Sorry but like, Ian? I don't think I know that guy?

We got delivery to a downtown hotel around 7pm on a Saturday. We got a beet salad and 3 pizzas. A pepperoni, a bufala, and this margherita. The pepperoni looked fine, and the salad was good. The other 2 pizzas, however each had something wrong. The bufala was missing some toppings and had pepperoni instead but was at least cooked well. My margherita was more or less inedible. It was so burnt the crust was like charcoal on the raise and burnt leather on the inside. The cheese has turned into plastic and the sauce was basically reduced into a tomato paste. Topping it all off was burnt basil that was the most edible part of the pizza. Based on this experience I would recommend thin crust Papa John's or Domino's over Pizza Brutta. Way cheaper and at least some good garlic butter.

Absolutely delicious pizza!! You order at the kiosk for either take out or dine in. Only minor complaint is that the place wasn't very clean. Understandably, they were pretty busy when we went and didn't have time to fully clean up after the previous customers who made quite the mess.

I always like Pizza Brutta. It's in a lovely area (by the Trader Joe's!), and the inside is really fun. You can get it to go, but you are missing out on the vibes a bit if you do. The pizza is Neapolitan which is usually not my go to, but this pizza is really well done. It has a tasty crust, and overall has tasty ingredients at a reasonable price. The service has been solid every time I've visited as well.

100% nails it everytime. The service is always great and the food never disappoints. The pizza and salad are large enough for small eaters to share.

Pizza Brutta is always good. It's one of my favorite pizza shops in Madison and my other favorite is Novanta (in Middleton). I have been going to Pizza Brutta for years. I have also picked up pizzas for a party I organized; it was all great.

For the quality and price, this is hands down one of the best wood fired pizza spots in Madison. We ordered takeout and tried the Margarita and Formaggi styled pizzas. Both were delicious and service was very speedy. The inside is on the smaller side but you are able to watch them prepare the pies in the wood fire oven from your seat. Definitely recommend Pizza Brutta for those exploring Monroe St

The first time I got a gluten free pizza here it was watery, soggy, and had an odd flavor. I thought I'd give it another shot because of all the good reviews... Service at front was very rude and blatantly did not care to listen to my partner and I. I told them I wanted a gluten free pizza and they said okay and on the digital screen it did not show an up-charge for gluten free crust - thought that was weird so i said "That's gluten free?" he nods his head with an attitude. I told my partner i was concerned about no up-charge and so he asked him "Excuse me are you sure that's gluten free?" Nods his head again with an attitude. My partner again says, "The ___ pizza is gluten free?" this time in a louder toned voice. Guy goes "Huh?... No." in a tone of suggesting my partner was dumb, look on his face matched. Partner, "Yeah that needs to be gluten free." Put a bad tone on our night and the pizza didn't help either. Came watery and had a really weird taste - I had my partner try it and he said he was shocked at how horrible it tasted. Really wanted to like this place but I will not be back.

Our first visit. Lucky we got here early on a Friday night before a volleyball game at the Field House (and a hockey game at the Kohl Center). We immediately grabbed a booth because it became jammed. It took us awhile to figure out what we wanted since there were so many good choices. We got into the queue before the line was almost out the door. I ordered the Salumetto pizza which was excellent with a surprising amount of heat. My wife got the beet salad which was very good. The order of flat bread that we got for free by checking in on Yelp was pretty mediocre - skip it. We will definitely return on a night that is quieter - there are more pizzas I want to try.

Pizza Brutta has the best authentic taste and Italian-style pizza in Madison. The service is efficient and friendly.

Took almost 2 hours to get two pizzas to go. Feel like they definitely moved us to the back of the line because we weren't eating in. I like their food but the wait was ridiculous.

Pizza Brutta is a combination of booth seating pizza joint & Chipotle style ordering. I ordered a Nostrano (basil,sausage & roasted red peppers) with red onions added. I also ordered a Caesar salad & a glass of the Tuscan red wine to enjoy during the wait. I took my table card number & we settled into a booth. The wine was, surprisingly, excellent. The salad was brought to our table quickly and the silken dressing enveloped each leaf equally with a couple slices of toasted pizza dough atop (in lieu of croutons). Within 8 minutes or so our pizzas arrived together. The edge crust was beautifully blistered in Brutta's woodbrick oven with a very thin crust on which a a well balanced grouping of the toppings merged. The pies are personal size and are more than enough for an individual. As a born & raised denizen of New York City...Pizza Brutta is an absolute winner! I'm so happy to know when I visit & want reliable old school pizza...I've got PIZZA BRUTTA!

Very high quality for a solid price. This is one of the best pizza places in Madison, but that is not really saying much at all. Great service, and I was there on a very crowded evening, and the pizza came out in less than 10 minutes. The pizza itself will not blow you away, but a great option if you're looking for a quality pie that won't empty your bank account.

Love it! We just love it! The staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere, being near the heart of the UW campus, was upbeat. It had that 'collegy' energy about the place. Still, a place to bring the kids for pizza. Each pizza is about personal pizza about 12" in diameter. You just can't get any better than wood-fired pizzas. Thin, crunchy crust that has the char from the pizza oven. The blend of sauce and cheese gives a good balance to each slice. The sausage is crumbled on top: the way it should be. And it's not too spicy. Just don't order 'extra sauce.' It makes the pizza a bit too runny in the middle. You actually don't need it. The have a lot of pizza varieties. So, I'll just have to keep going back again and again. Yay! Yum!!

Loud neighborhood vibe. Mostly younger crowd. Walk up, order, take your drinks to a table. They bring it out when ready. Pizza was tasty but sausage a bit too spicy. Drinks priced on the higher end for this type restaurant.

I took out a pizza from here on a weekday evening. It took about 45 minutes for the pizza to be ready, which was surprising. It was not a rush hour. Olivetto was the pizza I went for. I think I should have gone for something else. Artichoke was not a good topping for pizza. I was just chewing it like bubble gum and spitting it out. Rest of the toppings were good.

Great pizza joint with super friendly service!! Not the BEST pizza in Madison, so that's why it's 4 stars instead of 5. I think my pizza could've used more cheese but overall nice flavor and quality toppings. I'd definitely come back. Parking near Monroe street can be kind of a struggle so you might need to park further away and walk!

Very solid pizza. My favorite was the arugula prosciutto. Crust is nice, and they balance the sweetness really well. I could put down two pretty easily, so it can get a little pricey for pizza. Service was just okay

The minute I walked in, I knew it was going to be good: the smell was the best insight to the food we were about to pick up! Just observing, there were few booths and I imagine they fill up quickly during busy times (we arrived after the lunch rush). Reportedly, they give you a pickup time that is closer to your pizza being cooked to ensure you pick up the freshest, hottest pizza possible--super smart! The side salad was one of the best I've ever had: so fresh and crispy, lots of each topping, and huge for six bucks. The pizza was thin, flavorful, and chewy in a good way. I can't wait to get back to Madison so I can return for dine-in.

Tried this place during our Madison family vacation. Pretty good! The place was pretty packed which was a good sign, however the wait to get our food after we placed the order was extensive which was frustrating. I ordered the margherita pizza with anchovies, husband got the pepperoni, gluten pizza was also ordered. This pizza had more cheese than the previous pizza place we tried during our vacation, but the crust wasn't as good. Pricing was reasonable overall. Parking in front. Overall would recommend.

After the game we stopped here for a bite. Great little pizza place with a nice staff and good food. Every pizza is a large personal size. We had an americano and a carbonara pizza. They were both very good and we washed them down with a local beer. Will definitely be back if in town in again!

Pizza is fresh and handmade, I oftentimes arrive to find them removing it from the oven. The service is a bit on the slower side, so order at least 30-40 minutes in advance. It's quite busy, especially on Friday nights but takeout is easy. The pizza is decent, but at times slightly burnt on one side. 9/10 it's good

Pizza- a culinary staple that has so many facets and roads to choose from it's hard to judge in just one category. Pizza Bruta however, chooses neopolitan with a wood fire pizza oven and local ingredients. When craving pizza on a lazy Sunday afternoon, this is a stop to make. I had the Rossoverde- a pizza with red sauce, basil, prosciutto, Parmesan, and arugula. The red sauce has a deep tomato flavor, which complements their chewy light pizza dough. The ingredients paired well together, although a bit heavy on the arugula and the dough was stretched a bit thin in the middle of the pizza. Service was fast and inviting, however the music volume kept being bumped up to full so it disrupted the ambiance a few times. If you're looking for that comforting bite of sauce, cheese, and crust with just that added bit of fire, this is the place to get it.

My first experience with their food was at the WORTStock festival on the Northside. Excellent pie! Lovely staff at the outdoor event.

It feels like you are at Italy it gives off a vintage vibe. Service was pretty fast for how busy it was. The food was a little bit pricy but worth every penny. One of the best pizzerias in Madison.

Cute place on Monroe Street. The ingredients are fresh and pizza is cooked in woodfire oven right in front of you. Online ordering was quick and convenient. Kind of wish they had a larger size than personal, the Pies are tasty buy tiny for the price!

Pizza brutta is an exceptional pizzeria. Their pizza always comes out very fast and their staff is very nice. I've never had a bad experience here and I've been here a few times. Overall a very chill place and good food I recommend the margarita pizza. If you're around, you should definitely try.

I had the pleasure of dining at Pizza Brutta last night. This was one of the best pizza restaurants I have ever been to. My friends and I ordered 3 pizzas: Rossa (sausage, roasted fennel, chiles) Maui Wowie (pineapple, jalapeños, basil), and Bianca (Brussels sprouts, smoked bacon, chiles). There is only a standard size for a pizza which is a bit on the smaller side so if you are sharing, definitely order a few. There are a wide variety of pizzas and you can also create your own. The 3 pizzas we ordered were so yummy and my favorite was the Rossa. The wait wasn't too bad considering how busy they were. This spot is also conveniently located across from Trader Joe's! I will definitely come here again! 10/10 recommend.

Excellent pizza Had the margharita and the pizza blanco. Both well made and my 8y old thought they were extremely good. Service is friendly and prompt. It's a laid back place.

Went to Pizza Brutta on Pi Day for dinner. I am a huge fan of their service and pies. The service is very quick and streamlined -- we were able to get through a pretty long line and order our food within 5 minutes. The two pies I ordered took only 10 minutes to make. The pies themself had a nice thin and crisp base. I got a mix of meats (sausage, bacon, ham etc.) and they tasted very fresh and were very savory. Overall Pizza Brutta is a very nice spot to visit if you're looking to grab a quick snack or sit down dinner with family/friends. I am a huge Trader Joe's fan and that's right across the street, so it's a no-brainer.

Lived here my whole life and have also been going here my whole life. This restaurant deserves the world. I've had pizza from countless restaurants around the country and I have no IDEA how this isn't the #1 pizza restaurant (or any restaurant for that matter) in, at least, America.

Ok. I feel like I need to confess. I'm disappointed in myself for not knowing about the best pizza in town for as long as I lived here. Two friends told me (thanks Jolene & Sherry) about this place and I've always driven by but didn't give it the time I wish I had sooner. Beer on draft. Brick oven pizza. Neapolitan style. Fresh. Fast. Delicious. They even have specials. I plan on getting a different pizza each time. Their salads look filling. Their pizza crust is just right. Perfectly cooked and the crust a bit chewy. So good. Do it family style. Get a couple of different pizzas with your family and friends. Try it out. Parking is definitely not ideal but there's always parking a block over. Totally worth it. Don't think about it, just go. You won't regret it.

Pizza Brutta is beloved in Madison, and it's for good reason! Their pizza is the best Neapolitan style pizza in Madison for sure. The quality is amazing, service is fast, and I appreciate the casual order-at-the-counter style! Their menu has tons of options, but you can also create your own pizza if you wish. I've truly never been disappointed with anything here. Their salads are also bomb if you want a side of some veggies but seriously don't skip the pizza! My favorites are the classic Margherita, Quattro formaggi, and Miele. Prices are pretty reasonable too considering I usually have leftovers (although I probably could put away an entire pizza on my own).

Manager made his employee take and throw away a mistake pizza. Then proceeded to lie about it and blame that employee. Pizza was good, nice employee, but the manager was an obnoxious spineless fool!!!

Have always been a big fan but had a ridiculous experience and now likely will not return. Waited an hour for our pizza resulting in us missing a good portion of the UW volleyball game we were attending afterwards. Imagine they were slammed by take out orders but all of this could have been spared by them simply warning us prior to placing our order that there would be a substantial wait, in which case we would have gladly gone elsewhere and come back for the pizza another day. Appeared there were a number of other disgruntled customers wearing UW gear in precisely the same situation. And to make matters worse, of course we had already given our 20% tip at the time of placing the order. Very frustrating. Won't be back. Communication and acknowledgement of the backlog would have made all the difference.

Today marks the second visit to the original Pizza Brutta location. 20 miles out of my path to grab up what I hoped would be better than last years plague era version. Last summer I donned a safety mask and ventured cross town into the barren uninhabited Monroe St address of PB, seeking respite from the darkness threatening one and all. My pizza that night wasn't what I'd hoped. But it was still better than everything else offered. That's why I didn't write of ecstatic bliss about the stack of pies and salads I ventured out for. Today, alas is a new dawn. The eatery was alive with clientele, seemingly every seat held snuggly to the floorboards with happy regulars and perhaps a newbie or two. My order was merely my usual, an arugula and prosciutto olive oil styled pie. Drove home. Took me 45 minutes. I fully anticipated it to be somewhat a let down. Setting in its cardboard box wasn't doing it a bit of good. But upon sitting down to my treat, queuing up the final season of Justified on the box, I found myself elated, overjoyed, completely enjoying each and every bite. Crust had been perfectly fired (which as I recall, was primary failure killing my earlier mentioned pie) crust, still holding a reasonable crisp. The ham, caramelized as well as I'd ever had, the arugula was firm and peppery. So good, I'm including the photo of the shadow where it still offers a residual scent.

Like many reviewers right now, this is about their take-out/delivery -- I haven't actually been to their location. That being said, I have eaten from there about once a week March-May. I can't believe I didn't know about Pizza Brutta before this year -- this food is delicious. We love their pizza because it's not a grease-fest, it's light and the crust base is excellent. I buy the bread loaves and they are wonderful -- I make toast, grilled cheese, it freezes well. My favorite thing is the beet salad and I have ordered 2-3 per week to have for lunches and dinners. The food is great, they have good service and I feel good about eating their food regularly. I've definitely become a fan of PB.

Food was made relatively quick for everything being freshly made! Pizza came out hot and not undercooked. I got the Olivetto and it was a good pizza. The place is also nice, I loved the window bar seating!

Both my son's pizza and mine were under cooked and not cut all the way. As someone who loves Banda and Mexican music, I don't want to hear it at a neopolitian pizza place. Makes for a weird vibe
