"Beloved among locals, Pizza Capo’s wood-fired pies made it an instant hit when Oven and Shaker alums Kyle Munroe, Jeremy Whyte, and Scott Cunningham launched it as a pop-up in 2018. Now, Capo’s home is a full-blown restaurant on McMinnville’s Third Street, and the pizza is always on point — in particular the Valley Special, showcasing seasonal produce. The majority of the seating is indoors, but weather permitting the restaurant offers limited outdoor seating on weekends. If you go, keep an eye out for limited edition specials of handmade pasta, too." - Emily Teel, Rebecca Roland

"There’s a welcoming yet minimalist vibe to this newcomer to McMinnville’s vibrant Third Street restaurant row. The tables are populated mainly with couples on a wine country getaway. The Italian-inspired menu keeps it simple but seasonal with snacky starters like charcuterie and olives, beet arancini, and salads like peach and heirloom tomato panzanella in the summer. The wood-fired pies dominate most of the menu with about nine options, some classic like Margherita and some seasonal like peach, padrón pepper, and pork belly. Each pizza can be turned into a calzone, and optional add-ons like spicy Calabrian chile oil and fresh arugula mean you can customize each pie as you see fit. This is a great spot for a casual get-together with friends, family, or even a date night that doesn’t take itself too seriously." - Danielle Centoni

I have been here a few times now and every time it’s a great experience. Food is terrific! I highly recommend the Olives, they are out of this world! The pizza is delicious and not too pricey. Drinks are pretty good too. Top 5 dining locations in the area in my opinion.

Google
Fantastic! Great pizza, good happy hour, and honestly the best service I've had at a restaurant in years. Thank you for letting me know good service still exists! We did get there around open at 4pm, so to be fair that likely increased our server's attentiveness, but we wanted for nothing! She was knowledgeable, friendly, prompt when needed but not pushy, yet there when our glasses were empty!! I'd have liked a slightly larger draft beer list and a few more by-the-glass wine options, but the bottle list was extensive, and the Italian wines I did try were a good restaurant qpr. I hope to return soon!

Amazing service, amazing food, amazing drinks. We are from Newberg and was in the need of good neopolitan pizza. My wife and I thinking we would be in and out in under 40 minutes. We were enjoying ourselves so much we decided to stay for 2 hours. Topped it off with an amazing cappuccino. Just a great experience. Will be back many times. Amazing wait staff. So very kind and helpful, not pretentious like so many places have moved to in the area. It felt like pre-covid dining which I haven't felt in a long time. Great experience!

Very cute pizza shop in downtown. Slightly pricier than your standard pizza but the ingredients are super fresh. We tried the clam pizza when we went it and it was surprisingly very good. Also got the valley special (which I believe is not always the same). I also thought their cocktails were surprisingly good for a pizza place. Seating is a little close together so go early if you don’t want to be cramped.

We went there to celebrate our 8th grader finishing school and going to be in high school next year. The service was very good, the food was delicious, and we had a great evening. My criticism would be that it is a noisy restaurant, so you need to speak up the whole time you're there. The prices were very reasonable, and the staff were attentive and nice to work with. I love fire cooked pizza, so the food was absolutely delicious. We also had the arancini appetizer which is a fried risotto, and man was that good! We will definitely go there again.

One salad easily served two and was Delicious! Margarita Pizza was Fantastic 😍. Only issue is the Manhattan was microscopic, barely the size of a juice glass. Like two swallows.

Google
I love this place! The Margherita Pizza is my favorite and it's cooked in a wood fire pizza oven. The menu changes regularly with local seasonal specials and the inside is beautiful. The servers are all really friendly and attentive. I go here regularly and the food is consistently incredible!

Google
ALWAYS delicious with friendly service. I love everything about this cute little wood fired pizza place. The decor is fresh, modern and comfortable. I especially love the big copper pizza oven. If you are a person that is always cold ask to sit in the back near the pizza oven. I was pleasantly toasty in a good way. I have tried most of their pizzas. It’s hard to choose because I love them all. This night we were celebrating my daughters promotion. We ordered celebratory drinks. I was super excited to see they had a Christmas cocktail in the menu called Candy Cane Martini. It was delicious! The key to getting pleasantly full at capo is to order appetizers first. The pizzas are slightly bigger than a personal size pizza. So if you’re hungry 2 people would require 2 pizzas or at least an appetizer and maybe share a salad. Also do not miss seasonal specials. I love how creative the chefs are. My party of 4 chose the following: The Nduja-Roasted Carrots Nduja salami-roasted Even Pull Farm carrots, roasted red and seed onion, shallot, parsley Honey whipped fromage blanc and fennel pollen mint. These carrots were packed with flavor and melted in my mouth. We also ordered a salad to share a large Even Pull Farm Winter Green Salad $14.00 Even Pull Farm chicory mix, anchovy vinaigrette, parmigiano, garlic bread crumbs, and parsley. The garlic bread crumbs were Incredible the dressing was lovely and just the perfect amount. For pizza we ordered My favorite is Jabroni Pizza $24.00 Tomato Sauce, Pepperoni, Garlic, Oregano, Provolone, Mozzarella and finished with fresh Basil and Parmigiano. Delicious, juicy with well thought out ingredients and so much flavor. And a Margherita Pizza $20.00 Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella, Basil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Parmigiano. Can’t go wrong with a Margherita! For dessert we shared a Zuppa Inglese (seasonal) spumoni flavored tiramisu. INCREDIBLE! Not a huge dessert but enough for us all to have a couple bites.

Yelp
The following review is from somebody who has eaten pizza in all of the typical/famous pizza, cities, New York, Chicago, etc. I have friends who live in the area and have loaded this place as having the best pizza that they have had. My natural instinct is to disagree because obviously Chicago in New York have the best pizza, right? The dinner we had was all shared, and so I got to sample quite a few things: The arugula salad The olives The brussels sprouts The Jabroni pizza The spicy salami pizza The ARUGULA SALAD was really nice and definitely a good appetizer for what was to come. 4 stars. The OLIVES were just OK, I think they were done well, but my preference is more to raw and not cooked olives. 2.5 stars. The BRUSSELS SPROUTS were very, very good. These have become a staple at foodie type restaurants and can get boring very quickly, but somehow these guys got it right. 4 stars. The JABRONI PIZZA that I ordered had one modification, I added sausage to it, which I would highly recommend because it was a very nice touch. 4.5 stars. The SPICY SALAMI PIZZA was surprisingly good. I love spice as a general rule, but sometimes I notice it's a little bit overdone, but not this, it was perfect. Just the right amount of spice to balance the flavor out. 4.5 stars. The servers were all very knowledgeable and nice. They actually made it fun to dine, answered all of our questions and gave great recommendations. The ambience is that of your typical nice restaurant, almost fine dining, but yet still approachable. The overall cost for five adults and two kids was surprisingly affordable. Definitely a plus. Overall, I believe this pizza was probably some of the best pizza I've ever had. It was simple and done right without trying to be something it's not, or trying too hard. Sometimes when you want pizza, you just want good pizza and this place is fantastic. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Yelp
The restaurant inside is really beautiful and a great date night spot. The service was great, our server was very sweet and honest. Now to the point, the food. The garden salad was so fresh and the dressing was perfectly balanced with sweetness and tang. I recommend adding some parmesan (which they charge for). However, the pizza was disappointing. We ordered the cheese bread (basically a cheese pizza) and it was overcooked. We also ordered a Jabroni that was overcooked on top, but under cooked on the bottom. And the we ordered the Quatro Formaggio which was cooked correctly. Overall, it was an average experience. I think they need to add more items to the menu. I wouldn't go back here, considering the inconsistency of their pizza, as it is supposed to be their specialty.

Yelp
Although my wife enjoys pizza, she is not one to generally request it. If it's there, sure, she'll have a slice, but its never high on her list of choice cuisines. After our visit to Pizza Capo on Saturday though, that is likely to change! There was about a 20-minute wait for a table which, again, since we're talking about *pizza*, that's a good sign that great things are to come. Not just anybody can pull off such a patrician presentation of an otherwise plebian provision, but the people behind Pizza Capo apparently know what they're doing. We ended up ordering the Spicy Salami, with the (recommended by our server) addition of some prosciutto, and goat cheese. We were warned against its heat level, but as my wife and I are Capsaicin Champions, it ended up being perfect: deliciously thin, oily, spicy and savory - one of the best pizzas my wife and I have had anywhere, ever! Add to that a Paper Plane (one of my favorite cocktails, and one that is rarely on a menu), a glass of wine, and a prosciutto board (because apparently we hadn't had enough!), and you end up with a meal so fantastic, it has completely changed my wife's opinion of pizza as more than a just a lazy answer to the incessant question of "What's for dinner?"; it can also be one of the finest dining experiences around, when in hands as capable as these! Who's the boss?! Pizza Capo!

Yelp
Capo is one of our go-to spots in McMinnville and particularly satisfying after a day of wine tastings. They've gotten increasingly busy over time so we've had a bit of a wait as of late. During summers they have outdoor seating as well. Everything we've had has been very good but our usual orders include the traditional arancini, sausage pizza, and margherita pizza. They have rotating valley specials and the peach-za we had yesterday was delish! One downside for this visit was that the crust was quite burnt for both pizzas, and I noticed this for other patrons as well. It's IPNC weekend so they may have been extra busy, but hopefully it'll be better the next time we visit. We'll be back!

Cherie M.

Yelp
Great pizza and attentive service! Enjoyed the HH pricing as well. Great location to stop into especially when strolling around downtown McMinnville

Lauren W.

Yelp
Delicious food, quick & polite service, and in my husband's words, the "best lemonade" he's ever had. We'd love to come back next time we're in McMinnville!

Shane W.

Yelp
We arrived at 4.10 for the 4pm happy hour here and may have been the last to get a table before it was full. The pizzas were good, but we were expecting them to be better. The toppings were solid, and the flavors were pretty tasty, but we were not fans of the dough, as it was overly chewy.

Ree C.

Yelp
We started with the burrata which was to die for... We also ordered the antipasto which was also delish....The truffle cheese was our favorite on the board, along with the super fresh focaccia... We ordered 3 pizzas and they were yummy, definitely get the Calabrian honey drizzle....The middle of the pizza's were a bit floppy though....The fresh strawberries on the panna cotta were a hit as was the strawberry/chocolate crunch cannoli (they fill it when you order) so it was very crunchy and fresh....The rhubarb-cello was a hit as well... Wish there was a Sauvignon blanc on the menu.......Lovely server and ambiance...

Yelp
Always a restaurant I visit when I am in wine country. Pizza is excellent and recommend bringing a bottle of wine to enjoy. Never did take-out, but I would definitely try it next time. It can be busy so I recommend going during the week.

Sage P.

Yelp
This place blew me away! We were excited to be able to stop in on a Monday, as lots of places tend to be closed early in the week in this area. One of the best dining experiences we've had in quite a while. Beautiful ambiance, great cocktails. Service was fun & through. The food didn't miss at any point in time! Pizza better than any we've had in Portland. I can't wait to come back. I thought I'd be itching to come back to wine country for the wine but now it's gonna be to get back to this spot

Lance L.

Yelp
Truly great Neopolitan pizza. This was one of the two best restaurants we visited during our 4-night trip to Willamette Valley from Texas. I would definitely recommend eating here. The food was great and the prices were quite reasonable.

Jill P.

Yelp
Pizza was good, wood fired and fresh ingredients. However, the types of pizza were not all that favorable to me. Lots of spicy pizza. Roasted olives were even a little spicy. Service was great, sitting outside was nice for an August evening. I would suggest a build your own pizza option.

Liv C.

Yelp
A must-visit whenever I'm in McMinnville! The pizza is solid: wood-fired, fresh ingredients, great flavors. Dessert is totally worth the indulgence too...we loved the chocolate pudding and cannolis. They've also got a great wine list, and service is incredibly quick and attentive. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great pizza and wine selection. The service was actually amazing! You can tell they take pride in their work. The attitudes of the servers were great, which helps you really enjoy the whole experience. This might be the best pizza I've had (Jabroni + sausage).

Elisa J.

Yelp
Excellent pizza and pretty much everything else they serve! We've enjoyed the bar for drinks and snacks as well. I love the casual atmosphere and the energy once it fills up.

Carol D.

Yelp
We had a fantastic happy hour here while in McMinnville. Food (5/5): The burrata was fantastic - the flatbread was an entire pizza crust with roasted garlic. I wished we were having dinner there the food was so delicious.

Eric H.

Yelp
Ordered 2 pizza's to go, crust was burnt and dough was very chewy, looked like wheat flour for dough. Was looking forward to having some good wood fired pizza, however it was quite disappointing to say the least.

April R.

Yelp
The pizza and cheese bread are both literally amazing!!! This is such a cute spot in the middle of downtown McMinnville. Amazing service and amazing food!!!

Calvin B.

Yelp
Wow! I was in the neighborhood and thought I would give it a try! I was greeted and had my order taken by Cara! She was amazing and very knowledgeable with the menu. I was going to be taking it home, so I sat at the bar and had some water while talking with Mac, the bartender. Was great conversation. I gathered some intel since I'm new to the area. The Meatball Pizza was scrumptious. (Side of in-house Chile oil was fantastic) The Risotto Ball is actually called something but I can't remember or pronounce. Haha

Stephen K.

Yelp
We came here as a "Plan B" after finding, no joke, a wrapped pig's head on the stoop of the restaurant at which we'd planned on dining. I'm very happy that the first place didn't work out! Pizza Capo has a bright and inviting interior, and a good selection of items despite the smallish menu. We opted for burrata and an arugula salad as appetizers, and a sausage pizza and a Margherita pizza as our main courses. The helpful and friendly waitress told us that the burrata didn't come with any sort of bread, so we opted to order some garlic bread. The garlic bread is simply a plain pizza crust topped with garlic and drizzled with olive oil, which worked wonderfully as a delivery device for the burrata. Particularly noteworthy was the freshness, flavor, and HUGE size of the arugula salad. It was delicious. The burrata was lovely as well, thoughtfully garnished with flavorful and light sauce. The pizzas were delicious, too! Perfectly crispy, with a very flavorful crust and very fresh and tasty toppings. Prices were more than reasonable, and service was very prompt. I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in McMinnville.

B S.

Yelp
All around great experience. Seated quickly, great service, delicious food. Would definitely return! We ordered a big array of food for the table to share and each item was fantastic.

Barbara ..

Yelp
Had a pizza here, it was very good. Dining room is pretty loud though. If you have any type of hearing difficulties, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

Gabrielle L.

Yelp
I felt like we had been transported to Italy. My favorite pizza was "The Jabroni" but next time I'm coming for the clam. Amazing pizza, service and ambiance!

Ethan B.

Yelp
This is some of the best-quality pizza I've ever had. While we ordered takeout, the service was prompt and the hostess was nice. The hot honey was far more smokey than expected -- certainly a large deviation from the typical Mike's-or-Mike's-clone. The crust is a delightful, half-sour chewy-but-not-tacky dough, cooked to a perfect crisp yet still flexible. I was almost tempted to eat the whole pizza upside down just to appreciate how perfectly leopard-spotted the underside of the crust was. The sauce is above average, and the toppings were exceptional. A fair portion (not overly generous, not drowning out the milder flavors of the cheese and crust) of toppings was present on the pie. I'd definitely recommend the spicy salami, though I regret massively that they were out of clam the day I visited. One pizza will serve two people, or three not-very-hungry people -- the thin style crust does hurt how filling the pie is.

Ray I.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious. The wait for a table was not realistic for my family, but placing an order for take away totally worked! We settled into sine park benches right around the corner, until a cloud burst pushed us inside. Great gluten free crust (never typed that before). A seasonal pizza with fresh berries & goat cheese was a surprise. A mushroom extravaganza was a home run. A summer Panzanella was also great. My boys really liked the meatball pie. The only mistake I made was not getting a traditional tomato sauced pie other than the GF (maybe it had pepperoni ). This is an easy repeat when I go back to McMinnville.

Rosa N.

Yelp
It was a busy Saturday evening but I was able to get seated right away at the bar. Unfortunately, the meatball pizza was not as good this time. I asked for a side of hot honey, which made it a little better but overall, the pizza was still missing something. Mixed green salad was a tad too salty. My server Max (?) was excellent though.

Jim A.

Yelp
Did I just have one of the best artisan pizzas I've ever had? Yup! The chili honey in the meatball pizza was the perfect sweet heat. The classics arancini and prosciutto board were equally good. This is one of the great restaurants making McMinnville a true foodie town. The only issue I had was the acoustics here. Flat brick wall, flat glass shop front, with a flat adjacent wall because a sound cannon. Pipe in some music with the bass booming off the walls and you have a recipe for a difficult conversation. Over all the atmosphere is great but it's really hard to hear the staff and your dinner party. What? Did you say something? No? Ok, I'll end my review here.

Lydia S.

Yelp
Delightful. Service was The Ox Tail Pasta was unreal. The pizza was solid (would have liked more toppings). Tip: get the hot honey and chili oil to drizzle. The focaccia was truly the best we have ever had, and we make our own!

Daniel P.

Yelp
Had family dinner here -- best spot this side of the Mississippi. We ordered just about everything and ate ALL of it. Nothing on the menu will disappoint. The drinks -- oh my! So good. The bartender Bren is magical! The last word is a must and an espresso martini for dessert should be obvious. Ben has done such a great job with this place I can't wait for it to be a movie. LONG LIVE PIZZA CAPO! DID I MENTION the hostess Kailee is... the waitlist is a guitar and she's Carlos Santana! Need I say more?

Sally H.

Yelp
If I could eat the meatball pizza every day I would. This restaurant is fantastic- the people, the vibe and most importantly the food is delicious. Highly recommend!!

Deidre M.

Yelp
Amazing pizza! Fabulous ambiance and service. We started with Locally sourced mixed greens salad with tomato vinaigrette, the jabroni pizza (tomato sauce, pepperoni, garlic, basil and Parmesan). We finished with Budino, a delicious chocolate pudding topped with espresso whipped cream and hazelnuts. Not to be missed if you are in the McMinnville area!

Ju N.

Yelp
I'm in two minds whether to post this glowing review! When a place is this good you want it to succeed but you also want to keep it a secret! Ultimately, word will get out and everyone will know about Capos but thats ok! Every single thing on the menu is DELICIOUS! the staff are wonderful and I hope it goes from strength to strength so I can get my pizza fix for years to come.

Mik Y.

Yelp
What's crazy is that I've been to Italy, lived in nyc, spent time as a managing consultant in Chicago and Detroit, and the best pizza I've ever had in my life comes from....here??? My wife and I agree. The fluffy crust and high quality toppings (clam pizza with added truffle oil yummm) make this place divine. After two years I return to this yelp page to give them the review they deserve.

gary g.

Yelp
Still the best gf pizza anywhere! Love love love! Margarita pizza with sausage is the best...the prosciutto platter and the arugula salad are amazing!!

Angela S.

Yelp
We wanted to go to a different place but it was closed. Ended up here and it didn't disappoint! The arugula salad was fresh and crisp. The sausage calzone was filling and enough for two. Our desserts were delicious. The staff was friendly and we were not disappointed.

Karen S.

Yelp
We went to Pizza Capo on a recommendation from one of the wine shops in town. The pizza was excellent, made in a wood-fired oven. The crust was reminiscent of pizzas we had in Italy, crispy and flavorful. We had the mushroom pizza and one with red sauce, prosciutto, olive and fresh mozzarella. The mushroom was to die for. Service was outstanding. Definitely check this place out when in town.

Helen E.

Yelp
Love the pizza, the arancini, the beet salad. Can't go wrong with any of the choices here. Nice little spot tucked into 3rd street. Great spot for a fun date night. Staff was great!!

Kellie B.

Yelp
My family and I never got a chance to dine at Pizza Capo. We were turned away at the door on Saturday, April 19th. I still don't know why. We went to the restaurant, let the employee at the front know we were a party of three. There were quite a few tables available. The woman told us that they did not have any tables available. I know they don't take reservations, and you can get on the waitlist. That being said, Pizza Capo's website stated that they "prioritize providing service to the guest already in front of us, over picking up the phone". This was so unfortunate. My daughter, who lives abroad, was in the states for work. She was looking forward to trying out Pizza Capo. I hope they don't do this to all walk-ins. It felt really bad.

Jo O.

Yelp
Eat here when in McMinnville! We usually eat at LaRambla, but they were closed the first week of January. And while we were disappointed that it was closed, we got over that quickly when we found our way to the highly recommended Pizza Capo! Wow wow wow... the focaccia bread! We had only the polenta, buratta, and that delicious bread and wine! Such a good meal! Sorry for all the exclamation points but it was yummy yummy.

Michelle V.

Yelp
The ambiance was AMAZING in this restaurant. I got the prosciutto pizza. The flavor was amazing but the pizza was slightly soggy unfortunately! Once I bit into it, everything off :( But, the arancini was perfectly cooked and flavored. The cheesey bread also makes a great appetizer!

Jake N.

Yelp
Great 3rd restaurant with excellent Italian style pizza. Great place for large group gsthering.

Avery H.

Yelp
Excellent environment and unbeatable pizza. Their gluten free crust is also vegan making it super allergen friendly! I love the servers and the drinks are also amazing

John P.

Yelp
With all the overwrought tasting menus and farm to table.restaurants that beat you over the head with their sustainable practices and humane "ethos", Pizza Capo was our best meal of the week. No pretension, just delicious food. The burrata with beets was easily the single best dish of the week.

Sharece B.

Yelp
Delish. I took my friend here for her birthday and we loved the food and drink. We happened to stop in during happy hour and both got pizzas from the happy hour menu. The pizza was delicious! The sauce was amazing and the crust was perfect. I'd like to work my way through their pizza list to find my favorite. The beverages were delightful. My friend enjoyed limoncello for her 40th and I tried out a new beer I could review on Untapped. Definitely a true gem of a restaurant on 3rd Street.

Shay Z.

Yelp
This was our only not-disappointing meal while in McMinnville. Pizza Capo was highly recommended and was excellent in every regard. The wood fired pizzas are delicious, their pastas are flavorful, heck - everything was good! For the price, I think this spot is a gem as the quality was exceptional. We had a gnocchi dish as the nights special and if they're serving that - get it!

Jerry G.

Yelp
Good pizza and service. Wonderful ingredients for the pizza. Service was very professional. It rained on us, but they kept waiting on us anyway.

Scott H.

Yelp
It's been rare that I've had a meal where a part of it I legitimately didn't enjoy a part of the meal but still felt worthy of 5 stars. We start with the carrots. At first look they weren't peeled which gave pause. However the ingredients all together made the carrot the star and what it contributed was divine. Then the arancini. Both were very different. I got the pork one. Imagine a scotch egg meets bi bim bap. Just on the edge of too salty but a very decadent bite. The veggie one has such complex flavors. It was very toothsome and ordering two of them could definitely do you in. The pizza was where we ran into trouble. I got the one with olives mushrooms prosciutto and we added arugula. So their sauce is flavorful but on the salty side. The crust has a nice char. The mushrooms were definitely interesting and not your average mushrooms. The only issue it was salt on salt on salt. I had to pick off the olives to get a palatable bite. I would not recommend this particular pizza but I'd definitely try a different one. We finished with the panna cotta. One of the best we've ever had. Perfect texture with all the flavors working together. This is our new number one in town. Will definitely be back.

Beth C.

Yelp
Friendly, knowledgeable servers (Ben and Lexi) and solid pizza. As an Italian wine lover, the wine list was disappointing. We ordered a bottle of Ripasso which was honestly barely drinkable. So many better wine options in the same price range. I hope they'll consider upgrading their wine list.
