The 14 Best Pizza Restaurants in the Twin Cities

"Pizza Luce’s mini-empire stretches all the way up to Duluth, but it maintains its original charm with a chewy whole-wheat crust and loads of vegetarian and vegan options. This chain is known for funky pies like the Ruby Rae — an inside-out, upside-down pie that’s layered with Italian sausage, spinach, an obscene amount of mozzarella, and on top of it all, a douse of red sauce. The Rustler, made with mock duck, pineapple, and banana peppers, is a vegetarian favorite. Multiple locations." - Alex Lodner, Eater Staff

Where to Get Great Vegan and Vegetarian Food in Minneapolis and St. Paul

"This pizza place has loads of adaptable vegan and vegetarian options for those nights out with a mixed-diet group. The Vesuvio, for instance, is a pie decorated with giardiniera vegetables, basil, and sun-dried tomatoes, but the meatballs and ricotta can be subbed for vegan options — even the crust can swap to a gluten-free version in a pinch." - Justine Jones, Eater Staff

Google
Food was great and a good portion sizes! Server was nice as well. Wish they had a bigger drink/cocktail menu, otherwise love it there! We got the buffalo wings, which were good but I should’ve requested them more crispy, the bruschetta was delicious and so was the lasagna! Oh and can’t forget one of my favorites, mostaccioli! So good! Didn’t disappoint!

Google
Always friendly, affordable, and the pizza is totally solid. We love Luce's signature pizzas and great beer list. Our kid loves the cheese pizza and the coloring sheet. Thanks for being there for us during a heat wave when we don't want to cook.

Google
I really debated whether or not to leave this review. We go to Pizza Luce a lot and I’ve always loved the food. Never had an issue until today. But when I found a sharp piece of plastic baked into my pizza—under the cheese—I couldn’t just let it slide. I brought it back calmly and discreetly, hoping it would be taken seriously. They offered to remake the pizza and give me a dessert, which might be fine for a small mistake—but not for something that could’ve seriously hurt someone. When I asked for a refund instead, the manager initially offered only half, which honestly stunned me. He did end up refunding the full amount after I reacted, but it shouldn’t have taken that. What bothered me most wasn’t just the plastic—it was the lack of urgency or concern. This wasn’t a simple wrong order kind of scenario. There was a shard of plastic that could’ve caused serious injury. Huge liability for a business. There was no sign they were looking into how it happened or whether other food might be affected. I didn’t make a scene at the time out of respect, but I do think this needs to be addressed publicly. Mistakes happen—but how they’re handled matters, especially when safety is involved.

I had been coming back from a concert and was very hungry. This place was open and I came upon it. I had ordered an appetizer (Bruschetta) and a hoagie. The sandwich was still good but it wasn't my favorite. I believe their pizzas would have been more up my alley. I still had a great experience with the very friendly waitress!

Google
I went with a group of seven people. They were quite busy, even though it was around 10 PM. The staff was very diligent and got us seated within 30 minutes. We tried the mostaccioli (see picture), bruschetta, bacon cheeseburger pizza, prosciutto and rhubarb flatbread, and the Luce pizza. All were very delicious!

Google
I didn’t think I’d get to experience late night GF pizza again. Pizza Luce was like “I got you!” I might convince my husband to fly back to St. Paul so I can get it again. We ordered online, indicated an allergy, delivered quickly and labeled allergy. Pizza was excellent, hit the spot and 0 reactions. So good we ordered it two nights in a row.

Google
I love this place I really do as they have the best gluten free pizzas. However this last time it looks like my half and half pizza came from two different pizzas as my kids half was way overdone and not that tasty.

Tiarah Young (Tete)

Google
A good 11p pickup spot. I got an Italian sausage hoagie (think pizza hoagie) and customized it. The Caesar salad is always good. First time getting the brownie and it was big! Got a drink too all for $22.

Yelp
The staff is lovely--friendly, attentive, and super knowledgeable about food allergies. As someone with gluten and dairy allergies, I really appreciate how well they accommodate my needs. Their vegan and gluten-free pizzas are delicious! I always feel well taken care of here! Note: Experiences have differed between each location. This review is for this location specifically!

Yelp
Great Italian food other than pizza. I love the lasagna with red sauce. They even have happy hour!

Yelp
I always love pizza luce. It's my go to for quick delivery or pick up. I love the classic Loaded Baked Potato Pizza, and Hulapeno pizza (which got added to the full time menu. But check out the seasonal pizzas, they're often so fun!! The Elotes one has been a fav recently.

Yelp
The service was around 15 minutes, and we ordered there and got a pizza, hoagie, bruschetta, etc. The atmosphere was very much like a neighborhood pizza place. It was busy and we were there around 10:30. The food was okay. What really stood out was the bruschetta!! One of the best bruschetta I had. Everything about the freshness of the tomato, the crispness of the bread, the slight taste of garlic was on point. I would've only eaten bruschetta if I had the chance.

Yelp
Relaxed atmosphere, attentive staff, and TONS of vegetarian/vegan options!! I've been to other Pizza Lucé locations with a fun, nightlife feel, whereas the one here on Selby has a vibe that is light, fresh, and friendly. I had the El Guapo pizza, and WOW I'm in love. I kept the full-dairy feta, which was so delicious and punchy. I swapped the pulled pork for jackfruit, but it wasn't quite as shredded as I would have preferred. Still delicious, but it took some chewing. All the different flavors blended beautifully together, and I was so glad I had enough leftovers to enjoy it again. It looks like El Guapo is only going to be around for July (or while supplies last) so go try it while you can! It may just change your life.

Yelp
Stopped in to get a pizza in the way home. I had eaten at the duluth location and was happy , I live in St. Paul so now I don't have to travel 2 hours for great vegan pizza. I originally ordered to go and wanted to take advantage of the happy hour . The to - go counter suggested I take a seat at the bar And order my to go while I wait. Great idea! The bartender was attentive and offered a great suggestion for my vegan bruschetta and house red . It gives the vibe of a regular pizza joint with a bar. Yay to us vegans! We can enjoy great pizza in St. Paul Minnesota.

Yelp
Always fantastic! Always friendly and great service. Best salads in town...get the Ceasar. Comfortable place too. Get there!

Yelp
Pizza is....overrated. great service, great ambiance tho. But there is most certainly better pizza options around. It's not bad tho

Yelp
Yesterday was my 2nd time ordering from this location and I was pretty disappointed again with the cold nasty pepperoni slices I received once again. When I placed my 2nd order, I specifically told the gentleman how cold and hard my 1st order was and to please make sure this order is nice and hot and delicious but unfortunately, I didn't receive that. I actually feed both slices to my dogs and they enjoyed it. The Pizza Luce downtown Minneapolis is what I'm used to with their large hot cheesy delicious slices and I expected all of their locations to be like that as well but I guess not and the sad thing about is that I'm only 5 to 6 blocks from this location so I'm not understanding why my 2 slices of pizza were not fresh out the oven and delivered that way. It tastes like 2 day old cold hard pizza that was in the refrigerator. Very disappointed and I will NEVER order from this location again!

Yelp
I got a free pizza for being a new resident of the neighborhood. Ordered it and got it delivered quickly. Pizza was actually pretty good. Delivery guy met me with no issue. Prizes are reasonable and the pizza tasted good.

Yelp
This spot has a special place in my heart, fully cemented in my mind as the perfect spot for my DORTY THORTY BABY!! They got fusion pizza, they got fusion jazz, they got subs and salads, and they got MF BROWNIE SUNDAES!! Elote pizza? They got it, meetball subs? Done. Dusted. Out of this world. Beef and pork pesto Alfredo lasagna, I'm still on the treadmill trying to get the calories back. Waitress was awesome, 10/10, Caroline? Tabitha maybe, I can't remember, she was great. I WILL BE BACK.

Will H.

Yelp
Their pricing is eh and the food tastes the same-- eh. If you're looking for good pizza, I'd look somewhere else. You can find a lot better quality for at or below the same price as Luce.

Yelp
Last minute change of plans with a friend for happy hour/dinner but turned out great! We got seated right away on a Wednesday at 5ish, staff were all great and things were clean and the place had a nice layout with the option for tables or booths. They had a nice happy hour, $5 for most taps and a good deal on wine. For the price, I got plenty of leftovers. Will return to this location! I was very pleased with the good amount of ingredients on the pizza, some places barely put any on which was not the case here! Perfect for a happy hour, date night or take out! Yum!

Yelp
Highly recommend pizza luce and especially if you're gluten free. They have the best gluten free bread/rolls and really good pizza. They're knowledgeable on gluten free and do it well. I got the spinach artichoke dip with gluten free bread and the little ralphie gluten free pizza which was their current special. The pizza was amazing! Our server was really friendly and I will continue coming back to Pizza Luce This location has parking on the street and a small parking lot for pick up orders. The pizzas are a little expensive. The gluten free pizza was 20.99 for a small pizza and the spinach artichoke dip was 12.99. The spinach artichoke dip was huge and was definitely worth the cost! The inside of the restaurant had a lot of seating options and beer on tap to enjoy.

Yelp
I have eaten at Pizza Luce on multiple occasions and will keep returning! The pizza topping range from classic (cheese, pepperoni, supreme) to interesting. The gluten free pizza comes in one size. You are also able to get most classic or specialty toppings so you don't have to miss out on flavor and fun! I have eaten at the restaurant and gotten takeout with no issues in regards to my allergies. Staff seemed knowledgeable and they take reasonable precautions when you mention (or even just order) gluten free.

Yelp
Love this pizza lucé location! Came on a busy Monday trivia night. We were able to snag a spot at the bar. Bar tender was super attentive and got our drinks and order in a timely manner. We had a three spring special pizza topped with tangy carnitas. A 12" was very very filling for two people. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This place has delicious pizza! Thin crust and many toppings. Vegetarian options that aren't just "veggies" ... and don't get me started on the desserts! We've had delivery a few times and the food is always hot and delivered quickly by lovely people. Dining in is great as well and even though it's a small place there is plenty of seating.

Yelp
Pepperoni pizza was mad good and would eat again chat. Got deliv so idk what the ambience is like but the delivery times were alr with how far we were.

Yelp
I'm consistently impressed with Pizza Luce. The pizza flavors are unique and decadent. The service is excellent and the delivery orders arrive fast and hot! The baked potato pizza is not to be missed. Also love the vegan and vegetarian options!

Yelp
Had an evening reservation for 5 people. Nice table by the window. Server was nice and attentative-gave great recommendations. We started with the Artichoke Dip and let me tell you-wowziee garlic and we loved it. It comes with two small loaves, yes loaves people! of bread. Not a few dinky pieces of french bread. We got The Bear and the meat lovers could not stop talking about how good it was. The other pizza was mushroom and delicious.

Yelp
The food and service is always great here. Everything comes out fresh and hot. Clean restaurant in bathrooms. Friendly staff.

Yelp
We love this local pizza parlor, which, get this, makes all their food from scratch and has gluten-free items! Their bar area is super-fun, serving both beer and wine, and is not noisy with loud televisions, but rather, welcoming to everyone. It's one of the few places where we can take both friends who have families with children, and also hip friends who are foodies and want a great restaurant to go to. A+l

Yelp
Ordered a few pizzas for a work event and wasn't disappointed! The online ordering experience was easy and the pizzas came relatively quickly! Food was hot, fresh, and delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Chill vibes and good food. Server was very attentive and quick with her service. Big portions! Highly recommend.

Jim D.

Yelp
Pizza was tough. Ordered salads. We are at a hotel and no forks or napkins provided. Thoughtless service.
google avatar

Yelp
Curbside system needs some work, hard to pick up pizza when all 4 spots are parked with no one in them.

Yelp
To go order and delivery by Pizza Luce. Excellent website, it all worked easy. Order delivered on time, 100% accuracy, and packaged with care. Delivery person was super pleasant. We totally enjoyed our pizza and pasta with meatballs. Thanks for a great experience.

Yelp
One of the things I love about this restaurant is their ability to cater to multiple palates. Gluten free? Check! Vegan? Check! Carnivore? No problem. We not only love their pizzas with vegan options (mock duck and chicken) but also enjoy beef and wild mushroom blend toppings as well. Their caesar salad and super green salads are plentiful- love the tahini dressing on the latter and fresh oranges. Delivery or dine in- they do a great job at the Selby location, usually bringing your meal well within the promised timeframe. Service is always courteous and responsive.

Yelp
Recently ordered delivery from this location for a work event and the food all arrived warm and on time! 3 of us split a large ruby Rae, and it was more than enough food! A large pie probably would feed 4 people comfortably, depending on everyone's appetites. The ruby Rae pie was cheesy and flavorful, would definitely order it again.

Yelp
We are in St Paul for a conference and wanted to just get some healthy food delivered to our hotel. We ordered a Moroccan chicken and and Moroccan tofu bowl to be delivered to our hotel. If I could get his meal at home, I'd order it every week. The mix of ingredients and proportions were just perfect. Quinoa base, protein, cashews, golden raisins, spring greens and tomatoes and a dressing on the side. Pure deliciousness. There are so many interesting things on their menu - judging from what we got, I bet there are lots of fantastic meals to be had here.

Yelp
Service was decent. Food was decent. It was kind of busy and unorganized. If nothing else is open I would eat here again. 3 out of 5

Yelp
I've been to Pizza Luce's other locations, but this location was definitely the best experience yet. Our server was super friendly and the place was not busy at all on Saturday night. The food was amazing and these guys may just have the most well-labeled menu I've ever seen. Not only are things labeled vegan and gluten free but they also have notes on how to modify additional menu items to be made that way. They have lots of other menu items besides pizza as well too.

Yelp
Was craving a pizza and have eaten quite a bit at Pizza Lucé with delivery in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Each time I have ordered a dish it has been great from the salads to a first time experience with a pizza. Going in on July 4th did not know what to expect with the busyness of people dining out but it was not bad at all. Host was very friendly and swift. Servicer had fantastic service. She was prompt, she was attentive and even as it became a bit more busy during my dining experience she still maintained checking on myself and others very well. I visited the Saint Paul location for dine in. First time trying a pizza and to have eaten a pizza that did not have any meat (Athena) it was very very very delicious and a definite add to my usual besides the mock mufaletta sandwich. It is awesome that they have a variety of vegan or meat free options as well. Trying to ensure everyone is included. Definitely a recommend!!!

Yelp
Ordered Luce tonight. My four year old daughter (a noodle connoisseur) said "the most scrumptious noodles ever!" About the spaghettini with veggie balls. We also loved the seasonal Brussels sprouts and the butternut squash pizza - though we'd order extra squash purée next time since it could use a little more of that flavor. So good.

Marianne S.

Yelp
We came to Pizza Luce on Selby in St Paul for Father's Day. The hostess, Blanche, was the rudest I have ever encountered in a restaurant. We came with 10 people and spent quite a bit of money. The food was mediocre, at best and the horrible greeting we received from Blanche put a bad spin on the entire evening. If you want rudeness and mediocre food, this is the place. Never again.

Yelp
I used to be a huge fan of Pizza Luce when I was in college, but now that I think of it, I really only had it at the end of long drunken nights. Fast forward 10+ years... I've just now had the chance to try Pizza Luce sober and honestly, it's not as good as I remember! I ordered the "bear" speciality pizza (loaded with Italian sausage, pepperoni, marinated chicken, ground beef, Canadian bacon and mozzarella on red sauce) and substituted Canadian bacon for real bacon. Was it loaded? Yes. Was it everything I remembered it being? No. The bacon was soggy and under cooked, the ground beef had no seasoning/flavor, and the crust was very limp and borderline burnt. For a 10" pizza it was over $17.00 and it was definitely not worth it. Maybe the quality of ingredients have changed over the past 10 years but let's just say that I'm not a fan of Pizza Luce anymore. It's overpriced and underwhelming.

Yelp
We were in Minnesota visiting our grandchildren and Grandma and grandpa were asked to watch the kids while mom and dad got a night out. They wanted pizza, what a surprise. Called and ordered one for the kids and one for the grandparents. Pulled in picked up the pizza just as they were putting it in the box. While we are primarily square eaters the grand kids like thin crust pizza. The counter service was very courteous and the pizza. When we sat down to eat the two grand kids eat their entire pizza and the we one slice left on grandma and grandpas' pizza. Good crust and the toppings were very good. The peperonni was a little milder then the one we are use to at home but it was very tasety and very enjoyable. Ok Minnesota has good pizza.

Alexis L.

Yelp
Pizza Luce has been a great place for years, and their artichoke dip was the top of our list, something we would crave. Unfortunately tonight's experience changed how we feel about this location. The artichoke dip was different than it has always been and when we asked the server we were met with attitude and a "no it's been this way for 5-6 years". It was still very tasty but too much artichoke pieces and not well balanced. We opted to try the featured cheeseburger pizza and we were somewhat disappointed with how the toppings were- less lettuce than expected, and they did not use pickle slices as the menu states but instead roughly chopped up pickle spears. The flavor was still on point, just not a great experience having our pickles plopping off onto the table between bites. Even the watermelon lemonade was mediocre for a summer mocktail. I also asked my server for a new water because the glass I received was heavy with lipstick on it, not a huge request, the new water was brought but it was like it was beneath him to remove the old one that was dirty and it sat there on the table the entire time we dined. Overall it was not the same great experience we have been used to and I'm not planning to return to this location anytime soon as a result.

Yelp
My family and I went to Pizza Luce to celebrate my "last meal" before I prep for bariatric surgery. It was a very special night for me to be able to enjoy food that I won't be able to eat for a while, especially in a social setting. There are 5 of us in a party, we arrived around 9:30pm on Thursday July 6th. It's a very small location compared to the others such as Richfield and Roseville. They were a bit busy when we arrived, half their tables were closed due to being a bit short staffed. They quoted us 15-20 mins for the wait. We were fine with that and waited on the bench outside. We noticed 3 guys outside the restaurant, around ages 20-30, discussing that when they arrived it would be a 45 min wait. It sounded like they were trying to decide whether to wait or go somewhere else. We didn't think much of it at first, however, they kept going in the restaurant walking through the floor and coming back out. Once a large table was available, we noticed 2 of the guys sat down at the table right away. It seemed odd to us as they were quoted a 45 min wait and we still hadn't been seated. We went to the hostess stand and asked if that was our table they just sat down at. One of the staff went to the table and spoke with the guys, we were unable to hear what they were saying. The staff came back and said they would figure something else out for us to be seated. We asked what the problem was, and they said "they are refusing to move". I didn't want to cause a fuss, as they were busy and short staffed. I want to know why they didn't make the guys leave our table and let them get away with stealing it from us. They ended up opening the closed part of the restaurant to seat us. Which was nice, considering it was a quiet private area we had. That also meant we weren't visited as often as the main floor, we had to repeat some requests a few times since they would forget being busy with the other side of the restaurant. My food was great, I ordered the Fire Breathing Dragon. It's not spicy, so if you're not into spicy you should still give it a try. One of our kids said his spaghetti sauce was too spicy, and wanted something else instead. They offered him the chicken nuggets. They didn't take the plate of spaghetti back and they didn't take it off our bill. Overall it was an okay experience. I understand they were busy, but the solutions to the situations could have been handled better. We will most likely go to a different location next time.

Yelp
|Tomato Florentine| Pizza Lucé doesn't disappoint if you are looking for greasy, hearty vegan breakfast faire. . This is their Tomato Florentine - vegan and gluten free! Fresh tomatoes with sautéed spinach and mushroom on a toasted English muffin with sun-dried tomato tapenade and smothered with their vegan hollandaise sauce. . What's your favorite Pizza Lucé dish?

Yelp
Stopped by tonight for dinner with the family, ordered the soft pretzel for the table. My wife had the Greek salad with an amazing slice of salmon on it. I had an order of buffalo wings, also excellent. The kids had a cheese pizza and my brother had a dairy free pizza (lactose intolerant). Everything was prepared very well, and the quality of the ingredients was top notch. But the service was the highlight of the evening. I used to work as a waiter in a steakhouse, which has made me more critical of service - my bar is 'Could I have done better in the same circumstances?'. It's a hard job, but it definitely helped shape my expectations. The waitress we had, Sydney, was absolutely phenomenal. From helping to sort out dairy free options to providing beer samples and dealing with small children, she made it look effortless. My glass was refilled four separate times, which was fantastic after a long day out in the sun. There was more, but this is getting long already. In short, I haven't had service this good outside of $100 a plate restaurants. I left extremely impressed, and I'll come back a hundred times for service like that.

Yelp
Food: My two favorite things here are actually not pizza. The spinach and artichoke dip is the best I've ever had and their pesto benedict on the brunch menu is hearty and delicious. Parking: Limited parking in a small lot, or street parking.

Cassie L.

Yelp
I'm vegan and my gluten free husband and I love the food here! But the service tonight was terrible. The waitress came by once and walked away before we could ask for the check. We sat there for 20 minutes before the hostess had to ask her to come help us. The waitress had been behind the bar fixing her hair and drying glasses and not paying any attention to us at all. It seriously felt like we were being avoided. Meanwhile, the staff were turning people away because of a lack of tables when we were ready to leave. Super disappointing.

Robert P.

Yelp
What in the world??! Ordered a veggie pizza today. I was charged 40 bucks for a 10 inch pizza. Ordered extra toppings but, was extremely surprised when they brought the pizza to the car. I expected a large pizza but instead received a small. The pizza had zero flavor and was not done. It was soggy in the middle. This is my last visit to Pizza Lucé in St Paul. Love the downtown Minneapolis Pizza Lucé restaurant! The only thing missing in the robbery at the St Paul Pizza Lucé was the gun!

Yelp
Came in late 20 minutes before close and were able to make the pizza fast. Really great pizza! I got the pepperoni and cheese :)

Yelp
I asked the front desk at Celeste Hotel + Bar where I should order good food from. We had travelled for a long time and needed a real meal. The pizza was insanely amazing. Like, my husband will never stop talking about it for eternity. The quality of the chicken wings and the flavor (Jamaican Jerk...holy spicy heaven). I got the Classic pizza by the way. So many toppings, every bite was so prefect. It was a nice beginning to our vacation. Sorry no photos, we couldn't wait. Our room smells like heaven. Unforgettable

Yelp
"Pizza Lucé" is my new favorite Italian restaurant in the Twin Cities! I have an allergy to dairy, so it's often difficult to find Italian restaurants that I can safely eat at without having to leave off half of the ingredients or take a bunch of pills (and often still having some sort of issues). However, Pizza Lucé can make most of their dishes with dairy substitutes (either completely vegan or with dairy-free cheese and meat that doesn't contain any dairy). Not only that, but the dishes are really, really good, even with "fake" cheese. I, of course, loved every bit of it, but so did the people I came with (who could have eaten dairy if they chose to). Here's why this place is so good: The food: very, very fresh and super tasty. We ordered the bruschetta (dairy free option), a garden salad, and an "Original" pizza with dairy-free cheese (but sausage and pepperoni still on it). The bruschetta was absolutely phenomenal: not only was the "cheese bread" (again, with dairy-free cheese) super yummy, but the dish came with a huge mound of freshly made tomato-garlic topping on the side (there was more than enough to top every piece of bread with a giant portion of it!). The salad, while pretty standard, was also very fresh and came with lots of different veggies on it. The pizza was one of the best dairy-free pizzas I have ever had. The "cheese" melted really well (not quite as well as real cheese, but pretty close) and the rest of the toppings were generous and yummy. The drinks: they have a really good happy hour for drinks, including beer and wine for just $3.50 per glass (it's also real, local beer, not cheap beer from one of the big chains!). On Tuesday, happy hour lasts all night! The service: our server took great care of us, and not only was he efficient, but he made doubly sure that there was no dairy in my meal. He also made sure our drinks were kept full but wasn't too pushy about it (none of us like it when a server starts asking if we want another drink and we haven't even finished half of the one in front of us!) The prices: great for the quality, the dairy-free options, and table service. Our meal came to around $60 before tip for 3 people including multiple (happy hour) drinks, two appetizers, and a pizza (with leftovers for another meal!). In summary, Pizza Lucé is a great restaurant to enjoy a real Italian dinner, and is especially good if you are dairy-free or vegan. They have quite few restaurants around the Cities, and I will be sure to try the others after our great experience with this location!

Yelp
Great food, great service, amazing menu selection and choices. Pizza customization is fantastic with a large variety and desserts are limited but good. Only complaint is they use paper straws, but upon request they will give you more.

Yelp
Excellent pizza, been ordering from them for 5 years. Try their Ruby Red! However anything is good.
