Okay, Pizza Nono is one of those places that you hope is as awesome and adorable and delicious as it seems - and then it is.
Be ready, guys. It's hipster. But sincerely. Yes, it has a photobooth (that works!) Yes, it has adorable water glasses and tin plates and a communal table and a letterboard menu and string lights...but it also has the most amazing, non-presumptuous, fresh and simple pizza pie. You can put up with tin plates for this pizza.
We ordered the Sgt. Sausage Pepper: sausage, peppers, red onions, and fresh mozz, and the Special: ricotta, pepperoni, spinach, mushrooms.
One bite and we were like WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A PIZZA PLACE LIKE THIS IN UTAH AND WE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT. And we were bowled over by the flavors, the attention paid to the crust and the dough, and the combo of toppings, which is creative and fun but not too over-the-top that you lose the taste of the pizza altogether. Bay Area places have nailed this science - but until Pizza Nono, Utah hadn't caught up yet.
They are a good size - a solid 6 fat slices each - and between our family of four (including 2 kids under 5), we finished them off and were full :-O If we'd splurged for some salad or sides I'm sure there would have been leftovers.
Also, it's set in the so super cute 9th and 9th district, so lots of people-watching and fun shops to visit while you're digesting. Parking can be a little tricky but, again, you're at 9th and 9th and it's cute and fun to walk around. Patio seating is available in the warmer seasons and that would really open the place up (which is pretty limited on seating indoors - one big communal table and a few small 2-person tabletops.) Not super kid-friendly with the seating arrangements in winter but we brought our kids and it was a good time.
Will we ever eat another pizza from Utah again that's not from PN? Or recommend any other place? Most likely not. This place is IT.
