"Multitasking is difficult to figure out (we have the stained white pants we wore while trying to drive and eat chocolate at the same time to prove it). Unlike us, Pizza Squared, a slice shop in SoMa, has mastered the skill—they're making Sicilian and Detroit-style pizzas with ease. Both styles highlight more unique flavor combinations, from bulgogi meatballs and Thai curry chicken to ground beef and refried beans. Where things differ: The Sicilian slices are baked in duck fat and light and crispy enough to be used as a life raft, and the cheese walls of the Detroit-style pies are perfectly crunchy. Whichever one you get, know that you’re in very good hands. " - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway

"The San Francisco Standard has a story about a social media-driven conflict between Pizza Squared and the SF Police Officers Association, the union that represents the San Francisco Police Department. In a post on Twitter, SFPOA alleges a restaurant employee told officers they were not welcome. Despite the restaurant apologizing, the restaurant’s Yelp page shows six one-star reviews posted on the day of the incident." - Lauren Saria

"When we have 30 minutes to spare or need a pick-me-up in the form of carbohydrates and cheese, we swing by the mostly-takeout spot in SoMa (there are a couple of tables out on the sidewalk) for a quick Detroit-style slice. This counter-service place has all of their Detroit (and Sicilian) pies on display behind a glass wall, and are warmed up and served to you within minutes. You can’t really go wrong with the toppings—our favorites are the tried-and-true combinations like pepperoni and red onion or garlicky clams, but they also have more creative blends like ground beef with refried beans and lime crema, or the Thai curry chicken pie finished with fresh cilantro. Don’t forget to grab a side of their creamy house-made ranch to drizzle all over each slice on your way out. " - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway

"The photo of this glorious, Detroit-style vodka pie from Pizza Squared truly does not do it justice (if you’re wondering why it looks like it was dropped from the top of my car, it’s because... it was). But trust me when I say that Pizza Squared should be added to your takeout rotation immediately. They have a bunch of massive pies topped with things like clams and bacon or Thai curry chicken, all made on a light, fluffy crust with crispy cheddar cheese edges. - JC" - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway
