The Best Pizza in Los Angeles

"The quick, super-affordable New York City-style pizza spot nails the crispy-bottomed slice that properly melds cheese with tomato sauce. Every pepperoni curls like a blooming flower, pooling together porcine juices that dribble onto the paper plate. Consider these slices the perfect way to cap off an evening where dinner leaves one still hungry." - Eater Staff

Pizza Wagon of Brooklyn - Review - Sherman Oaks - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Contrary to its name, there are no wheels at this Sherman Oaks pizza spot. Pizza Wagon of Brooklyn is a neighborhood slice shop, but ditch the slices. To get the most out of this spot, order a whole pie that comes fresh from the oven and stays crackly with just a little sponginess. The slices, on the other hand, are reheated to order until they reach the temperature of the sun’s core, meaning you have to wait several minutes to even taste anything. (They’re also just dry.) The classic pepperoni works well in a salty junk-food way, but it’s greasier than an oil pan. We prefer the smoky eggplant version that’s light like a bruschetta and even better after a few shakes of parmesan." - Sylvio Martins

Google
Just got back from NY and this place felt just like the pizzerias out there. Excellent taste, texture, and timely service. Also the best value—wife and I shared 3 slices and a drink for about $17.

Google
Soooo good. Very flavorful and tasty. Made fresh it you get the full size. Many different options. They have pepperoni pizza, Hawaiian pizza, normal pizza, and many others. The service is great. They are very helpful. The prices are not that bad it is reasonable. Good location. The slices are very large. I recommend the garlic sticks.

If you live in LA, I just tried this pizza joint in Sherman Oaks and it’s fantastic! Pizza Wagon of Brooklyn is great pizza! If you’re looking for a great NYC style joint, this is the place!

Google
This is the best and only well made and deliciously seasoned pizza in town. I’m from New York and discovered this place 3 days after they opened. I met the owners and was intrigued with their history about NY. Go in and come back. You will!!

Google
Who doesn't love pizza by the slice! This place has great variety and quick friendly service. You can't miss them off Ventura with their cute bright red tables! Definitely adding them to as one of my go-tos!

Dominik Suter

Google
Pizza slices flavors are below average NYC pizza. The BIG difference is size. The pizza slice in Sherman Oaks is miniature in comparison. See photos with a dime for scale. The slice almost fits the paper plate.. The garlic ‘sticks’ were nice and came with Warm sauce, that was nice.

I went to this place because a friend recommended it, he told me the pizzas here were very good and he was right. The pizzas here are delicious. It was my first time here and I would recommend this place to anyone. It is a bit far from where I live, but to pay and eat a delicious pizza like this one is worth the drive. If you are a pizza lover, I would definitely recommend this place. The staff is friendly and you can see how they prepare the pizza. The place is small but they also have outdoor seating. We got one large cheese and one large veggie pizza.

Google
Original Review 5 Years Ago: Great pizza joint with probably the best authentic pizza in Los Angeles. Current Review: I used to love this place until I ordered a couple of pizzas yesterday for delivery. They both were inedible. The flavor was just not the same as before and both pizzas were partially raw. I don't know were things have gone wrong but to go from a 5 Star to a 1 Star says a lot.

Yelp
Really good NY style pizza Hot,thin and crispy. Ready in minutes. Just the parking can be an issue but definitely worth it.

Yelp
"Pizza, pizza..." This is no "Little Caesars," people. This is the real deal! If you have ever been back East then you know what I'm sayin' We ordered 1 large cheese & 1 large pepperoni pizza over the phone to pick up. When I arrived they were just pulling them out of the oven. Even the inside had a NY vibe which I liked! Felt like I was home. I paid and carried my big boxes to the car. My brother said we needed to eat a slice while driving. It was very hot and I accidentally dropped it...But 5 second rule...it was delicious. The pizzas were still very hot when we got home and I am embarrassed to say that we all had at least 3 slices each... we couldn't help ourselves because it was THAT good! They were the perfect combination of cheese, sauce & crust (not too thick or thin). We didn't even heat them up like we usually do when ordering from other pizzerias. There were 4 of us and we only had a few leftover slices for the next day. Highly recommend this place:) *Meter parking on Ventura Blvd can get scarce at certain hours. *Delivery available *Some seating inside & out front

Yelp
Pros -ny style pizza thin like it is on the east coast -reasonable prices Cons -parking is horrible Rating 7.5/10

Yelp
Eggplant slice was absolutely phenomenal. Any pizza spot that does eggplant knows how to make a pie. Brought home a full spectrum to try. Nice part: I saw the owner give a slice to the local homeless man walking by. Did it out of care. Love seeing that!

Yelp
This is a great pizzeria in the Valley that feels like an authentic, no-frills New York slice shop. It tastes just like the average, run-of-the-mill pizzeria you'd find walking around NYC--and I mean that as a compliment. Even "average" New York pizza is some of the best in the world. My buddy and I tried a variety of slices, including pepperoni, cheese, white, vegan, and buffalo chicken. The cheese slice was my favorite. It had a great undercarriage, a perfectly crispy crust, and just the right amount of sauce. The cheese pulled into satisfying strings with every bite and was balanced and flavorful. The cupped pepperoni was another highlight--a classic example of a solid NY-style slice. I also appreciated the inclusion of a vegan slice, which I wouldn't have known was vegan unless someone told me. While the cheese slice was more flavorful, the vegan slice is an excellent option for those who are plant-based. The other slices were enjoyable but didn't stand out as much in comparison. The interior has a welcoming, "homey" vibe that's perfect for families. The staff were friendly and helpful, even pointing out which slices were spicy or vegan. Overall, this is a fantastic pizza shop and a great introduction to NY-style pizza for those who haven't experienced it before.

Yelp
The pizzas here are really yummy. I liking going there but last like I went. The guys at the register took orders and then he didn't even put gloves on and touch my pizza, which I thought was hygienic. They need to start using gloves when touch the food other wise the food is good
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
I ordered an hour before they close and the guy who took my order over the phone sounded high as a kite. I ordered a whole size eggplant pizza and a meatball roll. The guy told me it will take 20 minutes. I set my alarm to 15 and drove there amd by the time i walked in, 2 people were very busy doing their own business. There was a guy in the back who looks like hes getting ready to leave and theres a guy in front of their oven texting. I stood there and while waiting for them to approach me, I was looking at the pizzas and they all looked hard and old. Few minutes passed by and im still looking at them doing their thing so I decided to leave and order my food next door.

Yelp
In crust we trust! The crust was fantastic. We just came back from NY. Tried a slice here. Will come back for the crunch of their crust!

Yelp
Good NY style pizza in LA is hard to find. Like Joe's Pizza in Santa Monica, Pizza Wagon is a transplant from NY that's now been here in Sherman Oaks for a while. They have slices and pies, traditional and square. The traditional pies have a nice, thin crust topped with flavorful sauce that doesn't need a lot of toppings to taste good. Getting slices in LA will never approach the experience of getting slices in NY. In NY, the amount of foot traffic in and out of pizza places means that pies come out and are sold as slices almost immediately. Here in LA, if you're ordering a slice, it's from a pie that's been sitting there and it will get re-heated in the oven first. Such is the case at Pizza Wagon and all other LA places that sell by the slice. They don't have a website or online ordering. Whatever you come across is probably a DoorDash store front. They don't do delivery themselves, but you can order delivery through the usual suspects (DD, PM, UE, GH). If you want to place a pickup order, you're probably best off calling them (on a telephone!) and picking up. There's a lot behind the store where you can park, and a backdoor.

Yelp
I tried to order a pizza ahead of time and went to their website to do it. Instead of handling the order directly, they redirect you to a third-party site. When I got to checkout, I noticed this random "Support Local fee". I'm just tired of getting nickel and dimed. Look, I get it if they can't handle online orders themselves--but just be upfront about it. Either explain the fees clearly or skip the whole online order option and say, "Call us to place an order." The way it's set up now is confusing and frustrating. I'm sure the owner will chime in and say it's not them. Well, again, I would say I got there from YOUR website. I just want a clear path to ordering to-go without this nonsense. If I go to your website and it looks like you are taking mobile orders, I'm going to assume through the phone and mobile are equal.

Yelp
I started working down the street from Pizza Wagon about 3 years ago. I found it to be a great spot where I could walk to, get a quick slice, and walk back with plenty of time to spare on my lunch break. I did this so often that now the gentleman running the place, Anthony, doesn't need to ask me what I want. He knows I'm there for that amazing eggplant slice. Always cooked to perfection. Some great drink choices too. I recommend the Manhattan Special Espresso Soda. This is a small, no frills, pizza by the slice joint. I've never been disappointed here. I've recommended this place to countless people, and never looked like a fool for doing so. You can tell they love what they do, and it feels like everyone there is a family. Banter included no extra charge. Sherman Oaks(and the Valley in general) is changing rapidly. I hope this place never does. P.S.: I keep seeing negative reviews about their delivery so I did a bit of digging. Even on their official website, the delivery option is done by a company called Slice, not Pizza Wagon directly. Any "hidden fees" can and should be attributed towards them. P.S.S.: In my humble opinion if you have a problem with $1.50 going to support a small local business, maybe try the Donimo's up the street. It might be more up your alley. :D

Yelp
Thanks to help I found this spot! They have excellent gluten free pizza, comes in 1 size and is perfect as a personal pizza. My bf had a slice of their similar pizza with pepperoni and said it was phenomenal, crust was thicker and not doughy! We both ordered our pizza well done so there was a crunch to it. Mine had a great layer of pesto, cheese and pepperoni. The vibe inside is fun, and they play rock music and old hits. Loved that the workers were so friendly and engaging. There's a little area to sit inside and outside. Called and my order was done with 15 minutes. They have a few other things on their menu and other customers were singing their praises when I walked in. Can't wait to come back! Vegan, and gluten free options available!

Yelp
This may be the best place for pizza slices in the SFV. It has that great NYC vibe and I like the Owner is a Brooklyn native and serving customers. I had my lunch ready fast at reasonable prices. I really enjoyed my Sicilian slice and the garlic sticks were the best I ever had dipped in yummy tomato sauce. I sat at one of the cute outdoor tables. I also like they carry my favorite Orange Crush to wash down the feast. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Yelp
Rude servers for no reason. I guess they wanted to give me an authentic experience but uncalled for. Pizza was decent but I'm not going back.
google avatar

Yelp
Pizza Wagon Of Brooklyn is solid and definitely worth a try. Crispy crust with great undercarriage The pizza is definitely greasy, but I love the cuppy pepperoni. You can order by the slice or get a whole pie that can easily feed 2- 3 people. Sicilian pizza is one size -10 slices Parking- street parking Service- friendly and welcoming Patio seating out front Menu- pizza and salad It's worth adding to your pizza rotation.

Jordan B.

Yelp
Their pizza is INCREDIBLE. Need to say that first. However, the delivery we just experienced was THE WORST. Pizza was promised at a certain time, didn't arrive for another 2 hours after the promised time. Pizza was cold. Just go pick it up. Edit after owner comment: do not click the order online option for delivery that is on Pizza Wagon's website -- it's a 3rd party company.
google avatar

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot for a quick slice or to take home a fresh baked pizza. Has a great nyc style to it. Staff is great and friendly, always a clean place. 10/10 would recommend
google avatar

Larry M.

Yelp
Pizza is good. Their delivery charges are hidden and a complete ripoff. I ordered thru their site and assumed they employed their own driver. They don't. They deliver through door dash and door dash charges a $4.65 delivery charge which I didn't see or know about until I completed my order. There was also a BS hidden "support local fee" of $1.50. Good pizza, fraudulent fees. $27.00 pizza was over $40 after all there hidden add ons. I won't order from them again.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
A popular local pizza shop for a very good reason. Was craving calzones so I decided to try this place out. No regrets because they were absolutely delicious. The calzones are made fresh--you can watch them prepare it in the kitchen while you wait for your order. Employees are super kind and friendly to everyone. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, which is nice. Definitely coming back to try their pizza next time!
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
I live right down the street and this place is my go to for a late night slice of pie. My favorite is the cheese or their eggplant pizza. You can't go wrong. It's heated up as soon as you order, making sure that everything is crispy and gooey, warm and the perfect temperature. The slice usually rarely makes it home as I eat it on the way.

Kathleen K.

Yelp
Delicious, no fuss Brooklyn style pizza. The place feels like a New York pizzeria when you enter, the people who own this restaurant are from Brooklyn, and owned a pizza restaurant there. This is authentic.
google avatar

Ron F.

Yelp
Fireeeee, I ordered the pepperoni 16'! Definitely recommend, customer service was a 10 out of 10 as well! Looking forward to coming back. Love
google avatar

Yelp
Extraordinary ny/nj style pizza at reasonable prices. Dough, sauce and mozzarella cheese are top quality. Take a bite and if you're from back east you're almost home. Tony's crust preparation produces a lighter, chewier crumb and there is leopard-spotting on both the cornicione and undercarriage of the crust. I had the regular cheese slice and one Sicilian slice. Both were not greasy due to extra oil. They were warmed up perfectly in the Bakers Pride oven. Pizza Wagon and Tony the owner likely make the best pizza in LA County. They were very busy with take out pies when I was there. Several tables inside and outside. Small lot in back, metered in front.
google avatar

Christian C.

Yelp
The 4 features of a great pizza: 1. It has to be crunchy 2. It has to be thin 3. It has to be simple 4. The crust has to be its best feature This place hits all 4. With a little less grease it would be perfect. There's nothing flashy about the location and there's hardly any space to walk or sit inside, but the service is quick. The selling point is simply the pizza; the way it should be. I highly recommend this place if you want to try a quality, traditional, New York style pizza.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
I've now come to this spot a couple times and have enjoyed it each time. Recently ordered a couple pies for a housewarming I hosted and everyone was raving about how good the pizza was. Even a few of my friends who lived in NYC mentioned it's very comparable to the high NY pizza standards. The feel also reminds me of pizza spots in NYC which is exactly what I hoped to see. I've tried the cheese, pepperoni, buffalo chicken, and white pizzas and honestly I'd get any of them again. I'm interested in their other offerings and now that I live walking distance I am certain it will be no time until I've tried their entire menu. Also worth noting they have solid ranch if that's your thing. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Aaron O.

Yelp
Great New York style slices remind me of pizza by the slice in NYC. Loved the pepperoni and the pesto.
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing, and they even sell buy the slice, you should also get some of the bottled soda
google avatar

Danny M.

Yelp
I usually go to Mulberry St for my NY style pie, but tried Brooklyn, and I'm a fan! Better than Mulberry? Probably better to say equal. Great taste, and ingredients, the thin rust I enjoy, and a unique sauce. A good sauce, but deviating in tate from most, and can't put my finger on the secret ingredient, but still, a great pie. Will be back.
google avatar

Miguel G.

Yelp
The food was phenomenal. Went in looking for pizza and I got an amazing depiction of what pizza from Brooklyn could taste like. X and Eddie were extremely helpful with my first experience at this place. Would highly recommend 11/10!!!

Aaron S.

Yelp
My favorite pizza spot ever!! The prices are good, and the pizzas even better!! I come here often with my partner and our friends:) at least twice a week, staff is very friendly too. My favorite part abt the pizza is it has a little crunch, it's not too saucy or cheesey but just right, the pepperoni is delicious as well! We usually get the garlic knots and marinara sauce too which always fills us up with our pizza. 10/10 recommend this place to everyone reading! I have even brought a few people to try!! This is definitely the best spot to come to with friends, on a little date, or even just solo!
google avatar

Barry B.

Yelp
This place serves exceptionally good, utterly unfussy NY pizza by the slice in Sherman Oaks. I tried Sicilian, Mushroom and Eggplant slices. ALL had perfectly crisp/chewy, flavorful crust. The sauce was bright, tart & fresh. The cheese & toppings were ALL great. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Steve N.

Yelp
Pizza wagon of Brooklyn is very close to a New York City pizza joint. The thin crust pizza was excellent, thin and crispy, good sauce and cheese. The service was good. The place is small with some seating inside and a few tables out front. It was very good if you are in the mood for some thin crust new York style pizza. I can definitely recommend this pizza joint

Ryananohel N.

Yelp
ordered from Postmates the other night, delicious as usual, the best pizza in town. I prefer the grandma pie , but the regular pie is delicious as well
google avatar

Yelp
I was in the area for the local street fair and the wife, and I were hungry. I've driven past here for years and never stopped due to the fast-moving traffic. Since I was walking past this was my chance, I said to my wife wanna slice of pizza as we looked at others who had been sitting down, she said sure! We got a slice of buffalo chicken and peperoni WOW great stuff we will be back for sure and the nostalgic glass bottle drinks really set it off great. I had to hear the rest of the night how that was the best pizza ever lol.
google avatar

Leilani J.

Yelp
Pizza Wagon of Brooklyn is a pizza paradise! My partner and I had a slice there, and it was everything you'd want in a classic New York-style pizza. The crust was thin and perfectly crispy, and the toppings were generous and flavorful. The staff was friendly, and the service was quick, making it an ideal spot for a tasty and satisfying meal. They have cute outdoor seating, not much available but it's still a nice spot to get a quick bite if you're in the mood for authentic Brooklyn-style pizza!

alwx ..

Yelp
Old cheese. Doesn't peel, looks like hardened cheese on lasagna. Cold and gross. Won't be back
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
This is THE BEST SLICE OF PIZZA I've had in SO LONG! I grabbed a simple slice of cheese to go and it was so good! Perfectly fluffy, yet crisp crust/ a nice amount of sauce (I prefer more than less) and fresh. Guys, this was just GOOD. Will be back!:) Oh I didn't take a pic bc I wanted to eat it more than take a photo haha
google avatar

Mitchell P.

Yelp
Been here twice and had good, but not great, pizza. Decent size slice for the price, crust was fine as were cheese and toppings. Just seemed very salty-tasting and not a lot of fresh flavor. Small store with challenging parking and your typical NY service, the blank stare, 'it's just business' Plenty of better NY pizza options in the valley.
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
I really miss NJ pizza from back home. I've tried EVERY NY style pizza in Los Angeles, the Valley and Orange County. Grimaldis is gone, so when Infound Pizza Wagon of Brooklyn I gave it a shot. When I saw the perfectly cooked cheese on their plain slice I KNEW it was going to be good. But I was actually really impressed because the crust is perfectly crispy and greasy. Will be a regular, even all the way from Pasadena
google avatar

Plaz'Chette B.

Yelp
Wanted to come back and add pics. Tonight I'm having the buffalo chicken pizza & pepperoni w/ garlic sticks and my boyfriend is having pepperoni & eggplant mozzarella pizza service is always great. And great ambiance I like to people watch sitting outside .

Yelp
If you're looking for a classic New York slice with no fuss at a reasonable price and high-quality this is definitely the place for you. On a street with so much competition in terms of restaurants, why does this stick out? Because it has the charm at one of those hole in the wall places that just serve a delicious slice of pizza if you wanted. You are also able to order a whole pizza to go. It seems more rare these days that you could go to a place where you could just order a very delicious slice and that's all. And by no means am I claiming to be some expert on New York pizza, but having visited New York a lot for work years ago and working at a few pizza places while in high school, I would say this pizza here is just as 'New York' as any other pizza I've had. I walked in here just yesterday and ordered a Sicilian slice as well as a pepperoni slice. The Sicilian slice had a satisfying bite with a nice chew and a nice slate crisps on the crust. Same with the pepperoni. Just a nice thin slice that had a nice crunch to it as well as a soft chew. Biting into the slices, gave me a wave of nostalgia from places I visited and places I've worked. The guys that were working, were super friendly and fun to talk to. Super helpful and accommodating as well. Me and a few friends ordered some slices after drinking beer at a place down the street and this place really hit the spot. They had a nice variety of slices available, but the guy said they were running low because it was national pizza day, and he was almost cleaned out at the time. No biggie though, because I was able to get what I wanted. I would love to come back and try the eggplant pizza or the white pizza heck I would love to try a lot of the other creations they do here as well.

Christine H.

Yelp
Outstanding!!! I am from Brooklyn and been in LA 12yrs. I grew up going to the original pizza wagon in Brooklyn on 5th Ave. it tastes just as fantastic. Sauce is great!!!

Yelp
My family and I recently got back from New York and trying the pizza up there is defiantly different than our west coast style pizza. It was amazing trying New York style pizza and when we got back from our trip I was craving that East Coast style pizza. I came here and got exactly what was wishing for!! I couldn't have been any happier with their food service and staff that I met there! HIGHLY REC.

princess s.

Yelp
Not only is the pizza really good, but the employees are so lovely, also. I'm from New York so it's a tall order for me to like pizza anywhere else. But this is excellent pizza. We had the Sicilian. Amazing. Thank you so much.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
I was super hungry after work one day and wanted something different but filling and memorable. Luckily, this joint was open and the service was quick. I parked at a meter on the street and walked over craving something similar to what one can get in the actual borough of Brooklyn. This place did not disappoint. I ordered a slice of White Pizza along with a slice of Pepperoni Pizza with Sausage. I kept it going and ordered a Pepperoni Stick and some Garlic Sticks. I only waited for a few minutes before everything was hot and toasty. I ate some on the way and at home and I must say, I am excited to come back. I highly recommend coming through with an appetite!
google avatar

Sirin B.

Yelp
At work we love ordering local eats. We got the Sicilian pizza and it was amazing!!! Delivered piping hot and the best part of their pizza is the dough. I could eat the whole pizza but it was huge! One piece for me and I was stuffed. We will order here again!!
google avatar

Yelena O.

Yelp
Pretty good pizza. Being a New Yorker it's been really rough adjusting to California pizza, it does help having places like pizza wagon available. The pizza is usually on point, flavorful and I don't have many complaints. I do have to say that the last time I got the white pie I was a bit disappointed but overall 7/10.

Leah G.

Yelp
Wow, this place has gone downhill. The pizza has become flavorless. I loved the plain slice and sicilian. Flavorless. Zero taste. I usually add spinach to a white slice, never doing that again. After getting rancid spinach that not only was vile tasting but after spitting it out, we all got sick. I also don't appreciate the attitude when telling me they're changing me for a side of marinara. I can read the sign that clearly states you charge for it. You shouldn't charge for an ounce of sauce anyway and your staff is so rude. I'm from Brooklyn, so disappointing.
google avatar

Tina K.

Yelp
I had an extremely disappointing experience at Pizza Wagon. When I politely asked the worker to cook my slices a little more, he responded with an attitude. To make matters worse, when we requested an extra plate because he had shoved all the slices into one box, he threw the paper plate at us in a rude and disrespectful manner. This level of customer service is unacceptable. I won't be returning and can't recommend this place to anyone who expects to be treated with basic courtesy.
