21 Must-Try Pizza Places in Montreal

"Magpie’s wood-fired oven — late of the defunct Tutto Bene on St-Viateur — whips up pizzas made with excellent base ingredients: 00 flour, San Marzano red sauce, and quality cheese. The margherita here, generously studded with fat basil leaves, is among the best in the city, but many fall for the “spanikopizza,” with feta, spinach, dill, and parsley. The digs are cozy, and oysters and some solid plates of pasta are on offer, too." - Joel Balsam, Valerie Silva, Eater Staff

The Best Restaurants in Montreal’s Mile End | Eater Montreal

"Mile End’s go-to for more upscale, wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizza, Magpie uses mostly classic toppings and a few new creations like the spinach and feta “Spanikopizza” or the Montreal tribute smoked meat pizza. Oysters, a couple of pasta dishes and salads round out the options, and they’re also doing frozen pizzas found at grocery stores and supermarkets. Delivery is through UberEats and DoorDash." - Joel Balsam

In all my years of travel, dinning and enjoying the hospitality of consuming delicacies in great spaces… never have I been so disappointed in the policies of a restaurant. Let me paint the setting, it’s Father’s Day, I’ve just spent a great weekend with my daughter, brought her to get her nails done and waited over 2 hours for the final process.. she says she’s hungry. So what does a loving dad do? Bring her for her favourite meal.. a Marguerita pizza. Rather than seat us on the dinning room floor, they force my daughter and I to sit at the bar rather than any of the over dozen tables available. Regardless of the quality of the food I would never recommend a place that rejects people based on whatever it was that led them to refuse us of having a place on main dinning room floor. There was certainly a preference for a “type” of customer, cause each group of patrons after us received placement at a table without a single question. Be it their skin complexion, or orientation, we were the only patrons aside from a single man asked to sit at the bar They won’t fail as a business, but nonetheless, this is my honest review of my Father’s Day experience at Magpie.

Food: The pizza was very good — fresh ingredients, flavourful, and well-made. The only small issue was the crust, which was a bit overly cooked and came out a little too crispy for my taste. Still delicious overall. Their Tiramisu is 13$, but top-tier... A must try! Service: Good service. There was only one gentleman working the floor, and despite being on his own, he did a great job keeping up with everyone. Friendly and efficient. Atmosphere: Cozy and inviting spot, but it was really warm inside. I’m usually the type who always wears a sweater, but I actually had to take it off — that’s how hot it was. A bit more airflow or AC would definitely make the experience more comfortable. Overall, very pleased with the experience and will come back.

Absolutely loved my visit to Magpie! The menu is full of tempting options—from fresh homemade gnocchi to creative pizzas like Viande Fumée and Mortadella with pistachios. You can tell they use high quality ingredients, and the flavors are well thought out. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly, and everything is reasonably priced. A great spot for anyone who enjoys delicious, thoughtfully crafted food. Highly recommend! 🍕✨

Google
we had a great time with great drinks and even better pizza. Our selections were on both extremes. A simple but delicious Margherita pizza featuring a fat burrata in the center and the more elaborate pizza of the day: a fantastic, cheesy, ranch buffalo chicken pie. The superior quality of both these pizzas made us wish we had more, and we can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu. For dessert, we had an incredible citrus ricotta cheesecake that we're still dreaming of. It was even better than it looked. We were given a lollipop with our bill, and as someone who's gotten too old to receive one from the doctor when they get a vaccination, I really appreciated that. (It was lime, too! My favourite. 😊)

Google
It was our first time eating stone oven italian pizza. We loved it! We had 3 pizzas for 4 people. The crust was delicious, and the tomato sauce was tangy. We also loved the prosciutto. It's a small and cozy restaurant.

Google
The food itself is good. It's mainly pizza as you would except this little Italian restaurant. I find however that prices are a bit expensive in comparison to other restaurant around. For a basic margarita pizza at 20$, I feel like I could eat more and better elsewhere. However, price aside, it's still very good. It feels like a pizza from Naples, but here in Montreal. There are plently of options depending on how you feel.

Meatball Pizza/ Sauce, Mozzarella, Homemade Meatballs, Mushrooms, Parsley 🍕 First Pizza of the new year coming in hot from @pizzeriamagpie and I have to say it's a banger. First time trying this spot with my buddy and everything was a hit. We got two pies that day which were the meatball style you see here and the Almonds 3 cheese. I love the decor of this spot, really gives you a feel of a old school resto with the decorative chilling designs out of what looks like a material resembling copper. The atmosphere I could tell at night when the lights come down almost feels like a old school drinkery. The first Pizza I got was the Meatball, absolutely loved it. I've never had parsley on a pizza before and honestly I can't imagine whilingly adding it in my own but truthfully it did add something to it. The meatballs were delicious and tender, the sauce was on point and the crust and dough itself was amazing a solid 9/10 for what I like to see. The almond Pizza is one that my buddy choose. Again not one I'd go out of my way to order on my own otherwise but I'm happy he picked it. 3 cheese from gruyere, ricotta and Mozzarella, toasted almonds with salt and spicy honey. Really a fun combination that just works honestly. Have to give them a try this new year they really make a great product and fun date night spot.

Yelp
I was staying in Mile End on my trip o Montreal and came across Pizzeria Magpie. I enjoyed the atmosphere and pizza. The wait staff were friendly and the ambience was great! The pizza size was good for two people. We got the Pizza Prosciutto and went back a second day to try the Magpie Margherita. Definitely stop by if in the area!

Yelp
This place is incredible. First let me talk about the service the server ask us if there were any allergies which we specified and the staff took that into account. In addition to that the food was phenomenal we got a Margherita Pizza, Pepperoni Pizza, and a Caesar salad. All which were incredible. Also the bread was great to think of pizza dough with no cheese that was the bread appetizer. The ambience was great it was nice the music was great they were playing drake which is always great when your in Canada. The wait was not bad 2 minutes for the table to get ready so that was good. The restrooms are extremely clean and the staff has a smile on their faces. I would definitely recommend this place

Yelp
Came here to catch up with a friend and it was nice! The pizzas aren't too expensive and I found the portions good for sharing. The service was fast and nice. We ordered the pizza of the day which was a pizza with roquette and buffalo cheese and the margarita. Both great and delicious. It has a very nice intimate ambiance, soft lighting and warm glows of candlelight. It doesn't get too loud and even at full capacity it doesn't feel crowded.

Yelp
Good wood fired pizza! The servers are always very friendly and the atmosphere is great. The pizzas are delicious although pricey and there is not a lot of options.

Yelp
Vouk was the cherry on top of our great start to the weekend this evening! His customer service was beyond:) all parts of menu were explained with the best detail & personality . The food was AMAZING ! Such an authentic flavor & aesthetic . I will definitely be sharing our great experience for all time to come!

Yelp
Short yet fantastic menu, Magpie knows what they are good at and make sure you get a slice of the goodness. They have a wood-burning oven that makes for the best pizza in town. Special mention to the caesar salad which is a must-have! We had the smoked meat pizza with mustard seeds and dill, the meatball and mushroom pie, and the classic prosciutto and arugula pizza. They were all delicious in their own way: the brisket is braised and pulled which makes for a delicious and unique bite, the meatball is hearty and delicious, and the prosciutto pie is fresh and tomato-y all at once. Tip: This place gets pretty busy, so make sure you call ahead.

Yelp
It was ok but I wouldn't go back. The pizza sauce wasn't good and the service was very bad and slow.

Yelp
One of the many good restaurants in mile-end. Went there with colleagues after a team building activity. It has nice vibe and good good. I really enjoyed their ginger soda, especially soothing since I have a cold. Pizzas are good too. I shared with my colleague the margherita and pepperoni pizzas. Two very simple flavors yet surprisingly good. Delicious thin pizza dough with a crispy crust. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I think maybe I went about Magpie all wrong. Last spring (clearly too late) I discovered our beloved Atataken Magpie location. It was everything I didn't realize I needed: amazing pizza, terrific service, great tunes and probably my favorite space in the village. Unfortunately, it closed in August because of municipal road work. Ho hum. We figured we would try the original Magpie- it has to be even better than the second location, right? Alas, no. I'm all for intimate spaces but this place is a sardine can. Additionally, the staff here are textbook Mile End hipster snobs (with few exceptions). I don't think slinging za' grants you the rights to look down your nose at average Joes. With that, I really had no patience for the patrons who bulldozed us to get tables- this place seems to put people in an anxious hurry that excuses them from general courtesy. It was weird, frankly. The redeeming thing about Magpie, obviously, is that the pizza is still terrific. I wish I could fully appreciate the product here; the space just really turns me off. Might I recommend takeout?

Mazi R.

Yelp
expecting something great from wood burning oven, found it poorly topped and so soggy that was hard to even cut with knife and fork, forgot picking it up in your hand. not going back!

Yelp
Went here with two friends back in May. We all had pizzas, I had the one with prosciutto and arugula (one of my faves) which was delicious. I loved that the pizza dough was thin but with a nice crust at the end and the ingredients were very fresh. We also ordered drinks which were below average. My friend's Aperol Spritz consisted mostly of ice and was served in a small tumbler and my drink wasn't what I was expecting (maybe I had heard wrong the full description of the ingredients in my drink?). Best to go with a glass of wine. For my full review and more photos, check out my blog: Turquoise Blog (link in bio!)

Yelp
Really good pizza place! My friends and I enjoyed the pizzas we got and the toppings accompanied each other quite well. I really like that they give you some chili oil to add if you'd like. I would say that their crust is a little harder than I would like and found that there was a little too much crust as well.

Yelp
My Wife and I were walking around Montreal and we hit Yelp and noticed Pizzeria Magpie was close by and well reviewed. We entered the smallish establishment and our waitress brought over a bourbon bottle full of water. I ordered and St. Ambroise Pale Ale to start off. It was delicious. We sat next to a couple with their kids going through some pizzas that looked wonderful. We were told that the seafood pizza was on special, so I thought, "I like pizza. I like Seafood. This is going to work out." My wife ordered the margarita pizza with no cheese or oil. We waited about 20 minutes waiting for our pizza while we noticed huge calzones, beautiful pizzas, glasses of wine go by us. We continued to talk and enjoy our wonderful Montreal day. Out came our pizza, while I ordered another beer. The Neapolitan style pizza came out with huge clams on it, calamari, scallops and mussels. The cheese wasn't overwhelming, just enough. The red sauce was just spicy enough. The crust was perfect, not too doughy. There was a ton of seafood on this pizza. The only thing that sucks about seafood pizza is that it gets a little juicy. Overall, one of the best pizzas I have ever had. My wife thought it was also the best pizza she had ever had in her life. Our waitress was super nice and refilled our waters when it got low. The atmosphere is welcoming and not too loud. We loved this place.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant I've eaten at in probably my whole life. Never did I think I would find pizza identical to that I ate in Italy until I visited Magpie. It's my favourite place to eat and the staff is literally the nicest people you'll ever meet. I've been going monthly ever since!

Yelp
Thank you YELP! Once again, you made me happy(not that you ever disappoint). Was searching for a pizzeria place I've never been before, and found this on Yelp, and it did not disappoint at all. There's not many options for pizza on the menu, but god they don't even have to have many options. With their pizzas everything is more then enough. The pizza is a thin crust, a lot of cheese, and delicious! You could also add extras if you'd like. I personally got the pepperoni and added extra black olives, and I don't think I've ever had a pizza with so much pepperoni! It was just great! And I also love the vibe, and the decoration a lot too! Will definitely go back here, take my friends, tell everyone about it, and just share this place with everyone!

Yelp
Oh my god, I' can't believe that I haven't written a review for Magpie already! Magpie has been in my regular restaurant rotation for years now and I love it! There is no better place in town for a thin crust wood oven cooked pizza. My go to is the Margarita pizza. Good pizza should be simple so that you can enjoy the great flavour of the buffalo mozzarella and the tomato sauce. Magpie's Margarita delivers on all counts. If you are in the mood for something more meaty and heavy I would recommend the Pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni itself is excellent quality, not the typical low quality stuff you normally find on pizza, and the amount that you will find on your pizza is very generous. I also highly recommend the Caesar salad and a selection of fresh oysters are always available. Oh, and don't forget to try their homemade ginger-ale!

Yelp
Quick summary: Cocktails were great Pizza was great, hard to go wrong with a wood stove oven! Dessert: had the brownie with ice cream and fruit, found the fruit sauce a little over powering but it was ok Service: service was friendly though a little slow and unsynchronized at times. Dessert and coffee was delivered over a 10 minute period and in no particular order amongst the 3 couples. Overall: I would recommend this place for pizza and cocktails, skip the dessert and be proactive with your waiter

Yelp
How do you fix a broken pizza? .......... ....................With Tomato Paste Too Cheesy??? Never mind. Pizzeria Magpie..... Definitely the Best pizza I've had in Montreal. The wood fire goodyness makes these pizzas so awesome. Thin crust pizzas and slightly burnt at the edges. That's the way (aha, aha) I like it. We tried the Pizza Arrabiata (sausage, Monteray cheese , rapini, red onions, tomato sauce) and the Prosciutto (Arugula, cherry tomato, bocconcini, tomato sauce). The Prosciutto was really good. Not too salty. The Arrabiata was great. Had a spicy touch to it. The tomato sauce for the pizza's is out of the world. All the ingredients are fresh. Add the spicy oil for extra flavor. They take credit cards, but no debit cards. And yes, Pls make reservations as the place tends to get really packed. Food - Awesome Service - Friendly Ambiance - Casual / Cozy Worth the money - Yes

Yelp
Delicious pizza in a cute neighborhood joint. We ordered the endive salad, 6 of their daily special oysters and goat cheese, jamon pizza. Don't forget the spicy oil!! It takes the pizza to a whole other level. They have a small selection of beers. The staff is extra accommodating with young kids. So if you need a baby friendly place, you should definitely check this place out.

Yelp
Pizzeria Magpie makes pizza, only pizza and they do it well... very well. Does it stack up to Pizzeria Napoletana? No... but close. Pizzeria Magpie is on Maguire, corner of St-Laurent, but without that the pretentiousness of St-Laurent. The place is beautiful, earthy with a retro feel. It seats maybe 30 people. They offer a few pizzas each looks more delicious than the other, a few beers, some drinks and pop served in glass bottles. Even the water is served in vintage soda pop glass bottles from a bygone era. The service was curt, polite but a little terse. But then I don't want to be overwhelmed by niceties either. The pizza is baked in a wood oven and you can taste the wood the char on the crust which adds a layer to pizza that you can't get from a regular oven. Although some kind of oil or garlic butter on the outer crust would have it taste a little less dry. You can go for the traditional margarita pizza move up to sausage and level up with meatball and 3 cheeses. Even the pepperoni pizza looked awesome because of the angle the cut the pepperoni at, which give you long ribbons of pepperoni and adds an extra meatiness to the pizza. The only thing missing on the pizza is that extra layer of flavor, like herb infused oils, maybe some seasoning. But as a whole you can't go wrong with fresh ingredients slapped on a pizza dough baked in a wood oven to a crispy delicious pie.
google avatar

Yelp
Good place for a pizza! All the pizzas we tried (around CAN$14-19) were excellent. They had an issue with their machine and lost our order, hence a slightly delayed pizza, and they offered us drinks (CAN$8-9) to apologize - they really didn't have to, that was really sweet. Only downside is that the tables are pretty close to each other, so you are eating with your SO but also a bit with your neighbors - I totally understand why, and that doesn't seem to deter customers, but let's say that it is not as intimate / date-ready it could have been.
google avatar

Nicholas N.

Yelp
Want pizza? Magpie should be your only choice. Every bite of Magpie pizza is a "Wow!" moment. The menu is small and simple and they've perfected their craft. You can taste the freshness of every ingredient, but just the tomato sauce itself is worth the trip. Simple steps for an awesome Magpie night: Dark and Stormy + Arugula pizza.
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
Great drinks, awesome crust, very friendly bilingual service. The house-made bottle of chili oil was a nice touch and the caesar salad was very good. The 'prosciutto' on the pizza was more like sliced deli ham, and my pesto pizza was on the oily side. But still a solid meal at a very reasonable price.

Yelp
I drooped in to Magpie's after a tough workout with friends, we were looking for a quick easy dinner and pizza sounded good. I was pleasantly surprised with Magpie's the ambiance was warm and inviting, even though the restaurant was full when we arrived it didn't feel too noisy or cramped. My friends and I were able to have a conversation without having to yell, the music volume was at an appropriate level. The wait staff was very nice and efficient, we never felt like we were lacking anything and when something was missing it seemed to appear on the table just as we noticed it might be missing. The only thing we had to ask for was a bottle of spicy oil we had seen on the table next to ours when we first came in. and even that arrived at our table seconds after we asked. We ordered two pizzas one Margarita and the pizza of the day which had spinach, anchovies and ricotta cheese. Both pizzas were excellent, I preferred the margarita pizza but that's because it had a little more spice to it. The wood burning oven definitely added to the flavour of the crust, giving it a nice smoky taste. Add some spicy oil to the mix and you have the making of a great pizza. I think everyone should drop in and try this great little neighbourhood eatery, at least once, I know I'll be back.

Yelp
Came here with my friend on a busy Saturday night, they seated us by the bar and we were lucky to have the nicest server. He was so accommodating and helpful, recommended various options and answered all my questions. To start, we ordered half a dozen east coast oysters (from New Brunswick and PEI). They were really mild in taste and easy on their way down- just how I like it. For my pizza, I wasn't sure whether to order the prosciutto or sausage, but I ended up going with the prosciutto and loved it. My friend got the poutine pizza and found it a little too salty due to the gravy, but was satisfied with her choice overall. We shared a bottle of pinot noir and were pleased to hear that our server wanted to treat us to a digestif. It was a wonderful evening and I'll definitely be back to try other items on the menu, everything looked great.

Yelp
All we wanted was to spend some time with our significant other and enjoy cocktails, delish entrees and a few (actually 5!) good pizza ...indeed we did have the above, but dear God, such poor service!!! I'm not even joking, the waitress was high. Serious. So spaced out!!! As soon as we ordered...she would forget...we had to ask for our drinks all night long! Moreover (and especially that) patrons were rude and loud! Let's be honest kinda losers and poorly dressed. Who lets these people in anyway....some of the patrons seemed to be friends with the staff...perhaps there is the answer. The table besides ours these two j*rk were just shouting, trying to get attention or something, all night long. Dudes...stick with your ugly gf, will u. As if... This is where the manager (or reasonable facsimile) must take charge, grow a pair and discipline not only the staff, but also j*rk patrons! Sadly, the manger and staff last night (a Saturday night of all nights, with the place full) failed miserably!! The owners must share also this fiasco. They hired the staff...and if they were there (which they should, on a Saturday night, and obviously were not proactive) then they don't care for the place...so why would quality patrons care to go back????!!! Not going to happen! Weren't for the food we would never go back....should we give this place a second chance, it's not going to be anytime soon!! Should the manager and staff been capable, we would have given this place 4 stars. Good food without quality execution and proper setting = disaster.

Yelp
Very good place. Made a reservation which was probably a good choice, as it gets busier after around 8pm. We waited a little to be served, but once the server took our order everything came really quick. Very quick and friendly servers even though it appeared that they were understaffed. Oysters were good, drinks amazing, and pizza was delicious. Gluten free option was extremely good. Very happy with this place! The only thing I would say is make a reservation if you plan on coming later because it might be busy.

Yelp
This was such a pleasant suprise! This is not a pizza please, this is a flavor orgasam! We are from America we have been here almost a week and eaten in a lot of restaurants... Thus is the best! The the staff is as nice as can be with the best personalities. The cook is a rock star. We got the mussels and were practically drinking the sauce and the cook saw how much we liked it and got us more bread to dunk it. That is top notch attention for the customer. We got the Margarita pizza and it DESTROYS all other MARGARITAS! The smoked meat pizza tastes like nothing I have ever had. They are food alcamists. I hope to come here again on my next visit and eat the rest of the pizzas! Totally unrelated but the waitress, besides being super nice are possibly the most attractive girls in Montreal! Update: Jacoba (besides being atttactive) is an absolute sweet heart and made an effort to find out where we are from, who we are, and asked about our experience. Give the girl a raise

Yelp
Delicious pizza! I got the margherita and the Mediterranean with a friend. The sauce is divine and everything tastes fresh! The cheese was so creamy and of very good quality! I had a great meal! Friendly staff! I highly recommend it! Can't wait to try more of their pizzas! Update: officially my favourite pizza place of all time now!!! I usually get the margherita because it's just so good but also have ventured into trying their other pizzas and they never disappoint! The texture, taste, and ambiance makes me very happy every single time! I'd highly recommend the Bianca pizza! I get it without the meat and it is my favourite pizza! Unique and so flavorful! Tastes great with their spicy sauce too! Couldn't recommend this place more!

Yelp
I am one of the staff at Magpie and felt the need to write a review....only because I've worked in the service industry for many years and finally found a place I like to call home. We are super lucky to not only have such wonderful and caring owners, but the customers we get are the best. This is a super neighbourhood staple and our regulars are what make Magpie great. The food is also super consistent, and we are always striving for excellence, so your comments are appreciated. Get to know the staff- they honestly are the most interesting group of characters with lots of neat stories, talents and backgrounds. What else? I've been eating Magpie for 3 years and still not sick of it?!!

Yelp
If you like semi thin crust artisan pizza then this one of the best restaurants Montréal has to offer. I ordered the meatball 4 cheese pizza and I loved it. The ambience is dim lit with a classic style that perfectly fits a hipster theme. Their cocktails are amazing. I ordered the lemonade and really enjoyed it. I am really curious to try the rest of the drinks here as the descriptions of them sound delicious. Our server was polite and honest and offered great suggestions. She always had a smile on her face which was quite enjoyable as she seemed to live her job. I can't wait for my next visit.

Yelp
I forgot we were in Montreal... This pizza literally tastes as if you've been transported to Brooklyn. Superb. Well worth the visit!

Yelp
Came to Magpie with great expectations but no reservation. Time was around 6 PM the restaurant was relatively empty, even so, we were sent to the bar. Several minutes later after I had received my thimble size glass of wine for $9.50, another couple came in who had no reservations--yet were seated at a table in the relatively open restaurant. I removed 2 stars just for the ineffective table management (yes, I know it's always best to have a reservation) Pizza - was delivered fairly promptly with tasty sauce. There is nothing like a true Wood-fire oven for Pizza, and Magpie has one. I chose the margarita pizza with added anchovies and a handful of rocket greens on top. the pizza was good but the crust was not quite as good as what I found at Bottega - in little Italy. The hipster setting of Mile End is what it is and the staff were nice. For me still, the best real- Italian pizza experience is at Bottega. I find them to be the winner. Value for Money was not there with Magpie. Wine / cocktails were way over priced for what you get, however the mixed cocktails were well put together.

Yelp
This place blew my socks off... so darn good! The food quality is so amazing and their service is quick. I loved their Margarita pizza.. such amazing taste.

Yelp
I have eaten pizza here twice. It's good restaurant with fun decor. The food last night was decent, but I do think I could have made it at home with Jamie Oliver's Italian cook book. It's not too expensive, however, so long as you moderate your alcohol, which justifies going there. It can also be fun, with the nod to the retro decor and interesting hipster patrons an staff. Our hostess was great and the waitress not so good (didn't ask how things were until the meal was almost done, didn't ask me if I wanted another drink, etc.). The rustic style pizzas do remind me more of true Italian pizza than one would normally expect of a North American pizza joint. The name Magpie, after the bird, is a very commonwealth reference, which may seem odd at first. It is, however, one of a number of restaurants with British references that have opened in the past year or so in Montreal: e.g. Sparrow, Lawrence, Brit & Chips, the Burgundy Lion, etc. All in all, I will go back, but with moderate expectations.

Yelp
Magpie is so pretty and sweet tucked quietly just off St Laurent and kept cozy with the hearth of the wood burning pizza oven in the room. The service was a little spacey and unintentionally aggressive, but the waitress seemed new and the rest of the team seemed more efficient and hospitable so I'm sure she'll get there. The Bloody Caesar came spicy in a pint sized glass with olives stuff with garlic - I'll give you 4 stars for that right there on a parched day, and the pizza and appetizers I tried were all fresh and tasty as well. A nice option in the Plateau / Mile End fer sure, especially in the winter.

Yelp
It is definitely time to update my review for Magpie as it was written early in my Yelp career. Magpie is a sweet little restaurant that produces one of the best pizza in Montreal. The menu is small and is updated periodically. There is always a special pizza announced on the black board above the kitchen and I'm still raving about the lobster pizza I had a year ago, whether it was the special or not. The same board has a short list of the oysters available for the day. The pizza crust is like home made, a little bit thicker for my taste, definitely delicious, you can't leave even a little piece on your plate, regardless how full you may be by the end of your meal. The magic in my view is in the little wood fired oven sitting proudly in one of the restaurant corners. Normally you'd rather have a reservation for Magpie. My last visit was sweet, we showed up without reservation, sat on the bar and got the best service, including tasty cocktails fixed in front of us for our pleasure. This unexpected visit wins Magpie five stars.

Yelp
Pizza for me is defined by the crust and the tomato sauce. This place is terrific on both fronts. Add some chili oil to Magpie's standard Margarita pizza and the combination can possibly make a person do the happy food dance in their chair. The menu is straight forward, and Magpie has never failed to deliver tasty goodness in any of the dishes we have ordered (salads, daily specials, pizza etc.). Their specialties are of course the wood burning oven cooked pizzas. From the basic Margarita (a go to favourite) to the fennel sausage with peppers and onions, they all hit the mark. The pizza crust here is thin on the bottom and thick on the sides, but the thick part has a delightful thin crisp on the outside and pully dough effect in the middle that makes it wonderful in taste and texture. So if you're a thick crust, deep-dish pizza lover, this may not be your favourite ... although Magpie might just swing you over to the thin crust dark side. The atmosphere is lively and fun. I would suggest making reservations if you want to eat prime time (6:30 - 9:00PM) Th-Sat and just in case, I'd make reservations if you want to eat in the same time period on other days, although you may get a seat just walking in. Oh yeah and don't forget the chili oil - mmmm the chili oil.

Yelp
Maybe this is the best pizza in Montreal but not the best I ate in my life. I was a bit disppointed with Montreal pizza scene, I tried Bottega and Napoletana and Magpie is much better but not superb!!!

Loved this pizza! We did carry out and brought it back to eat. Easy to order on the phone and the spoke English. Great pizza.

Yelp
Pizza was excellent and the lemon tart was amazing, but the service was a bit slow and unresponsive given how quiet the restaurant was.

Yelp
"The short winter's day was drawing to a close. It seems to me sometimes that these are the only days I have ever known, and especially that most charming moment of all, just before night wipes them out." first time trying magpie, ordered a margherita pizza for takeout, entered the cozy confines and a waitress at the bar promptly noticed a patron looking dazed and confused so she greeted me and gave me a menu to gloss over. while propped up at the bar, another waiter asked me if i wanted a glass of water while i waited for the dough to become pizza. standard things are often overlooked so i appreciated the attentiveness given for a mere take out order on a very busy saturday evening, i would fancy they're just as good in full sit-down mode. if you like bustling places/people packed in like sardines, you'll like it here, however if you're a little claustrophobic or prefer quieter quarters while having lunch/dinner, i'd recommend a weekday or afternoon. on to the pizza - really loved the sauce and crust (though slightly thicker than i had hoped for), and you can taste the quality of the ingredients, but it felt like they were too generous with the olive oil and too frugal with the basil/bocconcini, all too often (like over 1/2 the time ), my bites consisted of just bread and tomato sauce. some of the time i was eating a great margherita pizza, a good deal of the time i was eating a marinara sauce pizza, which wasn't what i ordered. 4 sprigs of basil attempting to be strategically placed around the center and bocconcini that needed two dollops per quadrant instead of one for a premium price ($14.95 taxes in, cheapest on the menu) may get you capital punishment in some other countries. okay, maybe a slightly less severe sentence, but i seek swift justice for all those 'just sauce' bites!

Yelp
I found this place to be overpriced and overrated. The pizza wasn't bad but it didn't blow my mind and make me glad I was going to pay almost $16 for a personal margarita pizza. I did enjoy the basil as big as my face though! As for the interior of the restaurant, it was completely uncomfortable. Even though most everyone there was trying to speak quietly among themselves I could not focus on who I was with because we were packed in so closely to everyone else. I didn't find the servers to be particularly friendly either. I'm glad I tried this restaurant but wouldn't feel the need to return.

Yelp
What a delicious unique restaurant! Came here because of the awesome reviews on of course Yelp! The critiques were dead on. Not only do they have some tasty pizzas, they have oysters!! My boyfriend and I sat at the bar where we both ordered Bloody Caesars that were great. We ordered oysters to start- even better than we expected. Appetizer-meat balls, so tasty and perfect size for 2. Lastly, we ordered a prosciutto pizza to share- authentic and mouth watering!

Yelp
Very good the pizza, with Bottega and Arlequino is one of the best pizzeria in Mtl. Or at least one of the most similar to the real Italian pizza. The place is a bit small, better to reserve. Ps. The fifth star of the rating is also due to the Montenegro, one of the few places that have it!!!

Yelp
I love Pizzeria Magpie. Been wanting to pizzeria back since I moved back to Oly last month. Finally went for lunch. I'm bumping off a star because service was pretty slow (getting our food). The waitress came by to apologize, they had a group of 30 in the back. Anyway, my salad was awesome as usual. Bf enjoyed his pizza. I don't think it's too awfully overpriced for what it is. I'm stoked to find out they have gluten free crusts! I'll be back to try it.

Yelp
So I've been to Magpie twice now. The second time was much better. I started off with a classy bloody ceasar, followed by a nice itslian wine. The pizza was lovely. Just the right thickness of dough and delicious toppings. Unless you're starving the pizza is big enough to satisfy a healthy appetite, unless there's an XXL tag in your shirt! I will go back myself, and you should probably try it too. I did like the feel and look of the place. I would call it casually cool. This isn't a big restaurant so you should probably RSVP.
